(00:02):
Welcome into DC on Screen. Thepodcast has been bringing you news and reviews
for the DC Comics multiverse on filmand television since oh twenty fifteen, and
look just a few years. I'myour host, David C. Robertson,
and this my good friend and loyalcohort Jason Gotts. Guys, before jumping

(00:23):
in the news, I do wantto apologize for the lengthy time between episodes.
Recently, my mom has been experiencingsome health issues. I've been busy
helping out with her, and Ithink last week we said we were going
to record, but what were wejust say? You and you and Evelyn
were sick right with the stomach thing. Yeah, that's it's we had like
one shining moment where we could andthen it didn't happen. Yeah, so

(00:47):
I apologize. Please bear with usas we navigate the tumultuous nature of our
work and home lives. And Ireally do. I hate going a while
at least you know, this longwithout doing an episode. Yeah, it
hurts my soul. Yeah, Imean, you know, you and I
used to do this without recording. We just did it for fun. Yeah.
We just catch up whenever the hellwe could. After family you know,

(01:11):
did its bit mhmm, we'll putit. We'll put it that way.
We'll put it that way. ButI'll let that stand. But we've
we've got a fair amount of newshere. Um. I think it's some
cool stuff, some not so coolin the cool category. Chasm Free of
the Gods. Tickets are now onsale. It releases March seventeenth. Please

(01:34):
go get a ticket. Um.You know, I saw earlier this week
someone had messaged David Sandberg, thedirector, and said, you know what
you know with Guns new Slate,I just don't feel like I want to
go see this movie because it doesn'tmatter. And he's like, if no
one goes to see it, itreally won't matter. I mean, he's

(01:57):
right, that's the definition of stufffilling prophecy. If you wanted to matter,
go see the damn movie. Yeah, and that is absolutely accurate.
Like Gun has already said that zamZam fits well. Yeah, but it's
its own little pocket. Shazam fitswell into the dc slate, the DCU,
his DCU slate. If it doesn'ttrack well, if it doesn't I

(02:22):
mean sorry, if it doesn't dowell at the box office, Um,
then they definitely won't do more. But it is tracking. This is in
the bad category, the not socool category. It's Shazam. Theory of
the Gods is tracking for a freakingreally low opening weekend box office of thirty
five million. Yeah, that wouldbe one of the lowest. That would

(02:46):
be one of the lowest DC movieopenings ever. I mean that would include
like Birds of Prey with a pandemic. I think Birds of Prey was the
only one that like would be lowerthan that. But I mean, to
give some context, the first Shazammade fifty three million in this opening weekend,

(03:07):
and it saw a one hundred andforty million dollars domestic take. So
yeah, that goes right, Yeah, that's gonna be a a long That's
gonna be kind of a slog oflike God, it makes you want to
avoid the internet for a week ortwo, right, it does? It
does? You know? I likedBlack Adam enough, but you know,

(03:30):
it's been said over and over againthat, like the reason they haven't had
Black Adam like they in Shazam wasbecause Warner Brothers was like Bogarten shit.
They were like, no, youcan't have them yet. Also, you
can't have a bunch of other thingsyet, so you're gonna have to create
some wholesale characters for your for yournew Fury of the God's movie because Black

(03:52):
Adam might be using this screw thatshit hopefully. Like, honestly, I
would love just see Shazam do wellenough to garner a third movie and bring
back Black Adam, bring back theRock and have a proper showdown in the
final old Shazam movie where the thirdShazam movie or whatever you want to call
it. Yeah, that's what I'mhoping for, because I don't think Black

(04:14):
Adam did that damn bad. Imean, I guess it was technically a
flop, but maybe not. Idon't mean it was abysmal was the word
I used earlier, But I thinkI've previously said flop adjacent. But I
mean it didn't actually lose any money. I'm sure about that part, but
it definitely didn't like it didn't havelike a ground swell of support for it.

(04:41):
But that means said, I mean, the advertising for that and Shazam
have been similar in the sense thatit's been like guerrilla warfare. Fuck I
forgot Shazam was airing this weekend untilyou're reminded me of last week. Yep,
I just forgot when it actually was. Yep. Well, um,
just go get your tickets, y'all. Come on now, come on now.

(05:04):
Yeah. I mean, worst casescenario, you see a good movie
and you better do it quick becausethey're already putting out TV spots that are
spoiling a major cameo. And Iwon't say what the cameo is, but
David Sandberg said, there's some bigshits sam spoilers out there now. If
you want to go into a freshinto it fresh, maybe don't be online

(05:24):
or watch TV with ads. Prettygood advice in general. Actually, um,
yeah, so I will say that. And uh, I mean I'm
also worried about, like I know, gud one is uh. I think
it's May that Flash is coming outm mayor I think so, um,

(05:44):
at least a month and a halfor so before that, there's gonna be
uh, you know, viewing screeningsand all that. They're very confident of
the movie. They're already doing thatthere, They've already got viewings out there.
People are already Yeah. I meanevery time I turn on the internet
and general, because you have aswitch, I turn on the internet,
hynd the Flash comes out June sixteenth. Yeah, there you go. And

(06:09):
by the way, Theory of theGods is getting great reviews, like the
initial reviews, like they lifted theembargo and like the reviews are starting to
pour in and they're all very verypositive. Cool. So I think,
you know, vote with your dollar, dude, if you want to see
more Shazam and the DCU do it, go go see it. I'm gonna
go see it. Yeah, I'llbe voting with the dollars too. Just

(06:31):
be like me. Yeah, itmay take you and eye. I went
to, you know, coordinate theactual recording given the circumstances this weekend.
But yep, yeah, we'll bethere. We'll have seen it. Something
will have happened. You'll you'll hearfrom one of us at the very least.
Mentally, Sandburg says that Shazam Theoryof the Gods has not changed under

(06:56):
the new DC Studios plans. Hesays the finished movie was delivered into October
year, so right before James Gunnofficially began the job. Sure, sometimes
productions can add scenes or do changesvery last minute, but nothing has changed
on Shazam. It is a freestandingstory and they have told me it does
not affect or interfere with future DCplans, So no reason to change anything.

(07:16):
Go see the Damn movie, ZacharyLevi to finish. If you want
it to be, it will be. Yeah. If you will it it
is no lie. Yeah, ZacharyLevi. I was talking to comicbook dot

(07:39):
COM's Brandon Davis, and he wastalking about Gun's vision for the DC universe
as an ongoing process rather than ahard reboot. He says, it's kind
of a rolling reset, if youwill. There's a lot of things that
were inherited that we're already kind ofwell. Before Peter and James even got
into the positions they're in right now, there were lots of conversations about what's

(08:00):
going to move forward and what's notand how do we how do we I'm
way over sorry, I'm way overhere as a part of the WII.
But how do the powers that befigure out how to chop this up and
try to make it work moving forward? And he says, listen, I've
known Peter now for years because he'smy producer and Shazam, and I've known

(08:20):
James Gunn for even more years. We have mutual friends and We've had game
nights together in La. I've beenat a Christmas party of his and almost
was our Lord and Guardians of theGalaxy like Gunn was. He's like he
James stumped for me, fought forme. When Peter asked him about me,
Hey, what do you think ofzach because we're thinking about him for

(08:41):
Shazam, James is like, yes, go get that guy. He could
like, he could really go crushthat. So I think gun likes Quinto
Zachary Levi h crossing over into Startrek Ucast Now, I think Gunn likes
them clearly. Gun even said,uh, in reference to Fury of the

(09:05):
Gods, I love it. Itis a complete blast. The whole crew
killed it. So I think Gunnis a fan. I mean, um,
he would have made a good starLord. M hmm. He would
have liked Pratt but still actually Prattwould have made a good him too.
Yeah. Yeah, I would havepreferred to Harry Eye on that one,

(09:30):
but yeah, I think they Yeah, I think they could have swapped all
together and it would be we wouldbe fine. That's that's the takeaway.
We'd be good. It's fine.I'd be all right. Moving over to
The Flash. There was a comicSorry Comic Book Nation podcast show had Jeff

(09:52):
Lansing and Colin Kelly of Batman OneBad Day, Clay Faced, There's a
Clay Face, and they were talkingabout James Gunn at DC Studios, and
Lansing said, basically in certain terms, that The Flash is going to blow
minds. When of his theaters,he says, I know too much about
that movie. I can't talk aboutit. I know secrets none of you

(10:15):
know. I gotta be super chillwhen it comes to the Flash. All
of this to say, I ampsyched. And when pressed to at least
answer how much The Flash will blowfans minds with surprises and twists on a
scale of one to ten, Lansingsaid ten ten. I think that if
even half the stuff I've heard istrue from people who should know, ten

(10:37):
insane complete madness. But I alsohear the movie is like incredible. That
makes me excited. I hope he'sjust not like no, I'd prefer that
to not be aware up to Butat the same time, how many people
have just heard like turn up toeleven. But I get it, Yeah,

(10:58):
I'm hoping for the same. I'mI'm just hoping he's not. Like
all the things that he's excited aboutare things that got cut because they're not
moving forward with it. Oh that'llbe fun. And check my memory?
Is it? You remember the Fantasticfour A film which one I guess the

(11:18):
last one? I never saw it. Well, you can't chang remember aything?
Remember that, like the trailer wherethe thing is jumping out of the
plane. I don't think that wasactually in the movie. No, I
don't even I don't even think Isaw the trailer. Oh they're completely yet.
Yeah if I did, I don'tremember it. Like, yeah,
I retained nothing. I was like, cool, it's not mcu u and

(11:43):
everyone's complaining about Josh trenk. It'sgonna be a shit show. I had
no interest. Yeah, it hasone really good, uh moment where like
you see mister Impossible actually like fightusing his like stretch skills. M kind
of own a scene. But that'sthat's that's that's all I got. Like

(12:05):
it. It would be genuinely usefulin a fight to be able to stretch
about I don't know, infinite feetin front of you if you want to,
probably, I mean, yeah, imagine it would be uh yeah,
there's there's that one thing. I'mgonna watch that later just to see if
it holds up in my memory.Okay, well, more power to you.
I'm still gonna be deeply depressed.I'm probably gonna actually like use that

(12:28):
and pivot to watching the end ofWhiplash again because some solo is amazing.
Just watch the like that one sceneof mister Fantastic getting discombobulated in one in
multiverse madness. Yeah, like it'sbetter strange to be better. Um over
to Creature Commando's Production has begun onCreature Commandos. Uh, they're almost donecasting.

(12:54):
And Gunn did clarify and said,uh, it's not that fast track.
Screechure Commandos and Superman Legacy were bothin development before Gunn and Saffron took
over. So there's that. Yeahcha, And I feel like that's kind
of a big deal to note becauseso many people were saying that, like
James Gunn fired Zack Snyder. Hedidn't you And he pointed that out too.

(13:18):
He was like, I dude, his Zack Snyder had not worked for
DC for years before I took over. No, he he would have had
to have hired him. It wasn't. He wasn't on the roster. If
he was on the roster, wewould have had a film by now like
no that that ain't it. Thatain't uh. If anything, it would

(13:41):
have been like gun shunned Snyder, like no, not even that. And
I don't even think he has yet. I think Snyder is busy, and
I think Gunn wants to build uphis DC universe first before he starts doing
anything else. And there's actually somenews. We have some news about the
aircut that sounds very erry promising. So I'm I'm I'm actually kind of excited

(14:03):
because I think James Gunn. Istill think he's our best shot as the
Snyder verse being quote unquote restored asfar as getting the ending that we want
out of Zach, I just thinkthings have to clear, Things have to
be set aside for a minute andbuild up some good will with all of
this other shit. The Sarnoffs ofthe world have to get out of the

(14:24):
way and have done so, thankfully. M Gunn says he is currently rereading
John Burne's Superman Run. I don'tknow exactly what that means. I've I've
read John Burns Superman Run. I'massuming it's you know, a nice little
That's what he says on Twitter, and I'm assuming that's an update for how

(14:45):
we can kind of think Superman Legacymight go between that and All Stars Superman.
I don't know that. I thinkI think, you know, I
think James Gunn did say that hisfavorite Superman comic was Superman for All Seasons.
So I thought I saw him saythat like around Christmas though, so
I didn't know if it was justa eel tied moment. Yeah, which

(15:09):
Superman for All Seasons is fantastic,Jeff Lobe tim Sale, it's a great,
great Superman score is you'll you'll you'llhave a bit of a bit of
a cry if you read it.To me, you know. Between all
that and guns saying that he's readevery Allen More comic ever, I'm like,
yeah, you got some good inspirationshere for Superman Legacy. I'm digging

(15:33):
it. Yeah, did you seethat? Um, he's read every Ellen
Moore and Ellen Moore hated everything?Yeah, every moment if I'm reading it.
James Gunn says the rumors that hehas sent out a casting call for
Superman between twenty and thirty years old, he says they're not true. A
casting director hasn't even been hired yet. And also, by the way,

(15:56):
all he's ever said was that Supermanis not in his forties. He's younger
than his forties. That's all hesaid as far as age is concerned with
the Superman. Yeah, and that'stypically the truth anyway, though, Like
unless you age him up, he'salways in like the Jesus Christ age.
Yeah, him and Batman both.Yeah, that's that's the whole thing.

(16:19):
Like that's the ongoing joke we alltalked about. Yep. Um, did
you see that Tom King kind ofouted James Gunn as being the director.
No, I don't think it did. What Tom King was on some podcast
and he said he said something aboutJames gunn is writing and directing Superman legacy.

(16:41):
I mean he's probably right. Yeah, it's probably it's probably good tea.
Yeah, I mean that's fine.I would you know. Saffron even
said during that DC event that theyhoped gun would direct. He probably will.
I mean if it were you wouldn'tyou wouldn't you like lead the ship

(17:03):
because like I'm going down with it. No, I don't have enough faith
in my own abilities if I couldget someone else to come in and host
this show, I would and aheartbeat, Yeah, that's fine. I
have enough faith in your abilities.Like if you were gonna if we were,
if we were both gonna die bythis sword, I'm gonna grab your
I'm gonna grab the handle and giveit to you. If I could pay

(17:26):
somebody to do this show, Iwould like I would probably just pay f
yap elders to just come in andtalk with stuff. Yeah, just like
you know, yeah, I thinkthe show will be better without me.
Not that I wouldn't be happy totalk to her as I always am,

(17:47):
but like, but NA that needit, that's what we do. M
sorry, I'm not stuck. Iquit um try it. I know where
you live. What will you do? Just ambush me with a microphone?
Goddamn right, I have rope. You've got like a little microphone on your
phone. You're like, so,Dave, what do you think about the

(18:08):
DC stuff going on? No,all my marks are portable and I have
rope. I don't I don't knowwhat you think is going to happen here.
You're just like, are you recordingme right now? No? No,
you know by law you have tosay yes if you are yes,
yes, what nothing? That unfortunatelyis not the legal definition of entrapping.

(18:33):
But by the way, how doyou feel about James Gunn and his latest
tweet? I mean it would beeasier than you think it would be probably.
By the way, can I justaddressed something real quick that I just
keep I meant to bring it upwhen we were talking about Shazam, and
I just forgot. I haven't thoughtabout Bethany. I'd have to confine her

(18:56):
too, and that seems like thatseems unfair. She didn't ask for anyway,
it's a whole house. I'd haveto hold a whole house hostage.
And the logistics of it, there'stwo people, Yeah, but they're the
acoustics in your house are very unforgetting. So like you'd hear her in the
background the entire time. What isshe an old geloppe trying to start up?

(19:18):
She's got tape over her mouth.Oh, I see this is turning
into a very bad Dennis Leary movievery quickly. But yeah, I meant
to bring this up there, theZam portion. I keep seeing this rumor
floating around that Dwayne Johnson The Rockis suing WB over Black Adam and Henry

(19:41):
Caville not coming back and all thisstuff. No, he's not, he
would not win. Warner Brothers hasway more money than The Rock period.
Warner Brothers has a ton of lawyersthat will destroy the Rock. The contracts
of the Rock signed, I canguarantee you they side with the studio.
It's called an option. They canexercise that option where they can say,

(20:04):
no, you didn't do good enough. Yeah, he's He's not the Savior
of the dc EU. He's notsuing them and coming back and you know,
dethroning James Gunn. Hopefully he willbe back for a sequel or something
at some point. That's his story. Stop believing these stupid rumors. Please,

(20:25):
guys, please, I'm going toadd in he possibly could have been
the Savior of the DCU if youhad um. I want to see the
movie. Gone to see the movie. Yo. Speaking of stupid ass rumors.
And maybe this is true. They'vesaid over and over again it's not.
But Ben Affleck there's a rumor thathe is directing The Brave and the

(20:48):
Bold. If he is awesome,if he changes his mind, if it
happens, if he if he decides, if he decided I want to direct
the Batman movie. I'm there forit. Dick out, no cheese,
greater necessary, We're here, We'reenjoying this film. Um, he's a

(21:11):
fantastic director. So a deep terriblereference from years ago. Just yes,
if you don't know, deep terriblereference from years ago. Um, on
the off chance that one of oneof the people who listened to us at
twenty fifteen or still listen, arestill there, Hey, Hi, what's
up? Y'all right? In happyTalk? So yeah, that's the rumor.

(21:36):
And because of this rumor, someoneon Twitter I don't even say their
name, screw him, basically addedJames Gunn. Basically added James Gunn say,
didn't Guns say in a previous interviewthat Affleck's not directing Brave in the
Bold? I get that Gun issomething of a professional liar, but still

(21:56):
and Gun responded to him and said, for years, just been my commitment
to the fans that I will neverlie to them, and I never have.
I'd be very curious about what itis you think I've lied about.
And he responds, not wanting torun DC and not wanting to make a
Superman film for starters, and Gunresponded, neither of those were lies.

(22:17):
I was offered Superman, but didSuicide Squad instead. A few years later,
I saw how to tackle Superman andI took it on. I didn't
want to be the sole CEO ofDC, but when they came and offered
it to me and Peter, Isaid yes because I could focus on the
creative side. Again. I've neveronce lied to the fans and I never
will. That doesn't mean I'm nevergoing to change my mind about anything.

(22:41):
I mean, just Jesus Christ,I love the transparency here. Yeah.
I don't track a single I don'ttrack a single falsehood and anything he just
said like that all tracks with everythingthat happened, with the stories it is.
I get so aggravated because people willbe like, oh he lied,
like he changed his mind. Peopleare allowed to change their minds. People

(23:06):
have come at me and being likeyou hated Man of Steel. I didn't.
I never hated it. You hatedMan of Steel, and now you
act like it's the best movie. Now I don't like it's the best movie
like that. Maybe super Man theUltimate editionally it's the best movie, and
two you borderline hated it for asecond. But I didn't borderline hate it.

(23:26):
I just there were several things thatbugged me about it, and you
were in certain some of those thingsstill bugged me about it, and still
get here not impressed. I don'tknow what I was. I was just
in a strange place where I Iwas like I was, honestly, I
was at a strange place where Iwas like trying to figure out why I

(23:47):
didn't like it more. I'm notsaying I influenced you in any any capacity,
but I think after we talked aboutit for a long time, I
genuinely think you liked it more afterI discussion. Yeah, I've liked it
more every time I've watched it.I think you should between between you,
between you, and between listening toZack Snyder and what his intentions were and

(24:07):
what he was doing. I changedmy mind. I am a person capable
of being changed. So I'm notjust like, you know, a w
B shill all of a sudden afterall these years and now I'm like,
oh, now I think you knowSnyder is the best just because I wanted

(24:29):
Zack Snyder's Justice League to I'm nota w B shill. I can't stay
WB. I think the best thingthey've done in years is to you know,
start this up with James Gunn andPeter Saffron. Yeah. Before that,
I thought the best thing they've donefrom all the supposed willows. I
know. I think it was astupid idea for Walter Ramada to say no

(24:53):
to Cavil. I thought it wasstupid to you know, shut down the
Snyder verse. I want present tense, want more Snyder verse. Yeah,
I agree. I want to seehis vision realized. I also want all
the things. Yeah. Mostly.Every once in a while I come across

(25:14):
the thing with the announce and I'mlike, I don't want that. I'll
see it, but I don't givea shit Like Gotham Knights, let's see
W couldn't give a shit. Itcomes out in two days. I still
can't muster the energy to watch it. I don't know what's gonna happen.
I would be more compelled if CWwould fix their add situation on the app.

(25:34):
But I haven't watched CW in acouple of years now. Has that
changed? Do you know? No? It's still awful, it's still terrible.
Okay, cool? Yeah, Istill don't smoke indoor vape. Get
Yeah, get ready to watch thatMcCormick Cinnamon dancing on your Tongue commercial twenty
five times. Yeah. Anyway, someone uh messaged gun on Twitter and said

(25:59):
Diana is a character with such arich history, sorry rich cast, with
so much untapped potential in stories asbeyond pastime for it to be explored hashtag
wonder Woman animated series, and JamesGunn said, I agree or agreed working
on it. So I don't knowif that's an indication that he's working on
wonder Woman period or if it's guyWonder Woman animated series specifically. But I

(26:25):
actually saw that tweet. I thinkhe followed up saying that he thought it
was animated or it was a reallygood addition to the animation. M okay,
I did not see that. Couldbe wrong, you might be.
He commented on the rumor that Henrycavill is going to be there Frankenstein for
Creature Commandos, and he says completelyfalse. We have our Frankenstein, our

(26:47):
first choice, and it is notHenry. We never discussed it with him.
And someone is so funny because Ihave a pitch for Frankenstein. Go
ahead. The person who who commentedit says this tweet is from an account
you muted. No kidding, saysI know you're just replying to false info,

(27:08):
but just comes off as hate towardsHenry Cavill. That post had no
traction anyways, Oh god a right, And Gunn says it's influencer. Gunn
says it's on various news sites andI was asked about it. You might
consider that this bile you think comesoff in my post has more to do
with your framing than what I'm actuallysaying. I've said it in the past.

(27:30):
We've discussed other roles with Henry, just Frankenstein is not one of them.
I don't know why people are justgetting blood hurt for no reason,
dude, Like, I don't knowwhy would be he? I don't either.
He doesn't have exactly the kind offace that I think about, and
he's not tall enough for the framethat I think about. But like Alan

(27:51):
Rickson, Alan Rickson, Yeah,I'm hawk, Oh cheer Riches and is
it Richon? How do you sayhis name is? Alan Rickman is a
dead English actor who was amazing. That was a very different guy. Alan
Richson rich so rich So rich Son? Well replace that with whatever I just

(28:18):
said. But yeah, that guyjust could play a fine frank Enstein.
Just say Jack Reacher, man,it's all right. Everyone apparently knows the
guy now, I don't. Idon't know why or how, because he's
been killing it for years. Hehas been killing it for years. I
just don't. I've always encountered himin like little niche places where like,

(28:38):
yeah, I don't think everyone knowsBrendan Thwaite's like, I just don't assume
that in my daily life. Butevery time I bring up Allen whatever his
name is, apparently everyone's like,oh, yeah, yeah, yeah,
the tall hot guy. I don't. I don't know where they learned about
him. In more ways than one, he just got too big to fit
into little niche areas well. Hedid. But then there's still Reacher,

(29:02):
which is a little niche area inhell. It's setting a little niche town.
It was a good show. Ienjoyed. I enjoyed the first season.
I watched every good It's fantastic goodJames got from my zombie there.
I loved m hmm. I lovehow like we we literally have been doing
this since like March or May somethinglike that. Methink. May of twenty

(29:25):
fifteen, and even on that.I think the first episode you were talking
about is zombie. I'm going tomake you watch this show. It's been,
it's been. I will clock work. Arn't your ass. You will
not there. We talked about itin the last twenty minutes of this show,

(29:45):
how I could sneak into your housebut she won't because of fear.
So help me. I'm sneaky.James Gunn tweeted out a picture of Steve
Age and said, happy birthday andmy great friend, collaborator and peak economists,
who you will see sooner than youthink. So there's that. That

(30:07):
was interesting. I'd like as possible. Absolutely, he's a lot of fun.
It was a weird thing. Therewas a weird thing that happened.
Uh. Someone tweeted I met MatthewLillard today and I asked him, it's
a great start, tenny sentence. And I asked him what character he wants
to play but hasn't gotten to andhe said, anybody in a James Gunn

(30:29):
movie. James Gunn replied, Uh, sorry, let me see. Let
me make sure this is who's sayingwhat? Wait? Yeah, double check
the references. One, Oh,Cody Ellis Yeah, Cody Ellis says,
I was going to say Plastic Man, but keep cooking please, And James

(30:51):
Gunn said, Matt and I satin a trailer with the head of Warner
Brothers, Lorenzo di Bonavijura, onthe set of Scooby Doo in two thousand
and told him we wanted to doPlastic Man. M That was the year
two thousand, so masks aged twentythree years. Yeah, he has a

(31:12):
bit past his promise far as thatgoes, we all are. I was
available in two thousand and guess what. I look older. Umm, But
dear God, that that that wouldattract for me, I'm not sure it
wouldn't track for me. Now,yeah, I might be open to it.
I might be open to it.I mean, you hear all the

(31:33):
Plastic Man, like, you know, the pitches are basically the same thing,
ever and ever again, right likem Ryan Reynolds, Jim Carrier or
some shit like. Yeah, Lillard'skind of a all right, well,
it's kind of a that could reallywork for me. I mean, I
don't have a casting idea in myhead for for Plastic Man. You know,
in the nineties it was probably JimCarrey, and then it's just not

(31:57):
there anymore. He's gotten too old. Yeah, and also he'd probably like
make the movie and then come outand started saying that, like he doesn't
support violence. Yeah, just theone. Don't go. Don't go see
the movie. It's too violent. What are you talking about? You shot
the movie. Why did you notknow that this was a thing in the
movie. It's I'm saying, Ilike Jim Carrey, but he see he's

(32:22):
a little off, and I don'tget you don't never know what he's gonna
do. It's a hard thing toget your head around because there are parts
of what he says where I'm like, yeah, I know, that makes
sense to me, and then yeah, it's it's exactly like you phrased it
actually, like he'll just cheot offinteraction and I'm like, well, can't
follow that. Holy shit. Yeah, It's it's hard to get your head

(32:44):
around. So on Friday, Gunwent onto Instagram on whose Instagram Stories,
and he responded to a fan poleabout which characters they most wanted to see
in the new DCU. The topten results were Nightwing, Man Hunter,
Marsha, Man Hunter, That Is, Lobo, Brainiac, death Stroke,

(33:04):
Red Hood, Satana, the Courtof Owls, mister Freeze, and John
Constantine. Gunn says, will fiveof ten? Do oh? I have
my lowest on that list? What? What? What's yours? What was
my lowest? Yeah? Probably honestlythe Court of Owls me too. I'm

(33:31):
kind of sick of them. Ihave nothing against him. And when Scott
Snyder did it, it was anamazing piece of writing, thinking wrong.
I was absolutely gripped by what happenedthere. I think we'll see him and
Matt Reeves Batman stuff probably think it'scoming more than anything, and it deserves
to be there. It actually reallymakes a lot of sense there now,

(33:54):
Yeah, it does, but itdoes, I mean, out of those,
out of the out of the five, if don't you have to you
have to let me hear him again. As far as the five go,
well, there's Dick Grayson, MartianMan Hunter, Lobo, Brainiac, death
Stroke, Jason Todd, Satana, the Court of Owls, mister Freeze,

(34:15):
John Constantine. All right, soWayne, I think because for me,
Yeah, Dick Grayson, Jason Toddare big hard yes is for me.
Lobo is a big hard yes forme. Yeah, me too. I'm
pretty sure James Gunn is writing abrainiac story for a legacy, So I'm
pretty sure that's gonna be one ofthem. On his that's the one I

(34:35):
could lose if you hadn't get enoughprotagonist. But I like, I gotta
like that villain a lot. Yeah, I don't care about mister Freeze.
Really, I could drop that one. Everyone's been like, oh, the
Batman too, mister free is misterfruit I don't know why. Yeah,
but again back to you know, the Matt Reeves universe, that that could
go there. Yeah, I don'twant it to. I'm just I don't

(35:00):
care. I just don't care.Like if they did it really good,
if they did heart Advice again, some version of that maybe, but anymore
past the fucking brain cell will usethat storyline. Then again, heart Advice
exists, like Paul Deney did itperfectly in Batman in may A series and

(35:20):
then turned around and then like wrotea comic book version of it that was
setting like they basically red conned thestory for the then current mainstream DC comics
and did it better in a lotof ways. I'm happy with those two,
and I've even liked some of whatyou know, Scott Snyder did with
mister Freeze, but I don't.I don't need to see it, Like

(35:40):
that's not my big thing. Thosewere good too. I mean there's so
much at the heart, Like there'sso much meat at at that little crux
him and Nora are. There's somuch there. Like it you can you
can make sense of it. Likeif they just did that and did it
well and showed you that story.M h I mean Gotham hinted at it,

(36:05):
but like if they really shared youthat story, I think you'd be
on board maybe. I mean I'min I'm into it. It's just not
like the number one thing. I'mlike, yeah number one either. I
mean wait, so how else dowe have here? I mean Nightwing?
I think that for me and you, that's that's a solid yes, right
yeah, solid yes for night Wing, solid yes for Jason Todd. I
love the whole bat family. Iwant him included to um Lobo definitely yes.

(36:31):
For me, It's just it it'sso he can go so crazy,
right, Like there's so much togo, there's so much to play with
there. M hmmm. If Ihad to, like man, I honestly
I could see James Gunn playing withany of these people, Like how you.
How are you not gonna do SatanaIf you're literally doing gods and monsters,

(36:52):
you're doing math. That makes methink like, well, yeah,
I mean that's a good point,Like I want as much as I want
Constantine and Boza versa. That beingsaid, I mean Constantine. So maybe
if anything, it's Lobo that's likethat one's hard to do because yeah,

(37:13):
he has a he has a funkind of like bounty hunter, slightly antihero,
kind of vigilante art to him.But it's also the guy who kills
implied his entire planet for fun.Uh huh. It's kind of a hard
sell as far as that goes.Well, science experiment, What gone wrong?
Nope? Nope, nope, nope. That you meant to do this?

(37:36):
Yeah, yeah, I meant todo it. Yeah. Sorry,
were you sad about it? No? New? Okay? So yeah.
Previously, James Gunn had said abouthalf of the chapter one slate had been
announced, and but recently someone askedand he said less than half. Um,
here's that big David airnews I wasexcited about. Oh hit me.

(38:00):
On Twitter, a fan basically saidthey didn't think the air cut would ever
be released under guns leadership and Ayersaid, and he said they were talking.
They were writing in Spanish, butwhen you translated to English, Ayer
said, I spoke to him awhile ago. All with patience, he
has the right to put together hisnew universe before visiting the past. Cheer

(38:22):
up, good things are coming. That sounds like is happening. I mean,
could absolutely just sound like could justsound like he's nodding to the past.
But I would like to think that'swhere that's going. Yeah, yeah.
Keanu Reeves says he doesn't know ifit's happening now. The Constantine too.

(38:45):
He says, I was hoping itwould, but we don't know.
We're trying, so feeling more uncertainat this point. I'm curious he has
talked a gun though he has.Yeah, I saw you talked to him.
His ama was hilarious and might havestarted a new religion for all I
know, because he is capable apparently, but yeah, like he is,

(39:10):
um, I'm curious, Like afterJohn Wick after chapter four, Uh huh
if that, if that, ifthat thing's Gangbuster, it's like, yeah,
that do you just throw a movieat him because you got him?
Because I might, I would elseworlds the ship out of it. You
sold how many seats? Oh shit, can you cut your hair for this

(39:32):
one? Nope? Okay, that'snot a deal breaker. Shave no,
no, sorry again, not adeal breaker. But then again, i'd
can't, you know, because I'mme. I would want to, like,
can we do a Constantine sequel whereMatt Ryan shows up and you guys
have sex? Oh? Yeah, yeah, yeah, the Constantines have to

(39:54):
bone. I mean they'd have to, they'd have to my approval on this.
It feels like it feels like Kanawould leave with one less nipple?
Is this is this multi versal incest? No, more like multiversal masturbation?
Ah, I can see. I'msitting there like straight first look a like

(40:15):
who who else would who else wouldknow? Who else would know what I
need? Well, Matt Ryan apparentlyprepares a full English breakfast in the background,
m m m, and then we'lldo whatever else whoever, Like,
let's let's bring in a third Constantine. I don't care. I just want
to see a Constantine's hanging out doingmagic and shit. You know, yeah,

(40:35):
that really will that'll that'll do itfor me. Uh, that's the
end of my movie. News Andwe got a little bit of TV news.
Do you want to hit a breakreal quick. Yeah, it sounds
good. Cool you guys, We'llbe right back. We've got some more
cool news coming for you, andwe're back. Are you excited? Yeah,
happy that we're back. Of course, are your nipples hardy? Are

(40:59):
they cutting glass? It's kind ofwarm, I hear you. It's called
my house, so I'm trying tokeep all glass objects away from my chest.
M the Penguin. We got thePenguin. Uh. It has begun
filming officially. Yeah, so um, I'm excited about that. I want
to see where the story goes. There are all these rumors that Robert Pattinson

(41:22):
are gonna is gonna show up inthe Penguin, and I don't know why.
He wouldn't um be kind of weirdif he didn't have like a big
batman running around doing something. I'mreally excited about this too. If if
there wasn't some inclusion of like whatare the like what four major characters,
one of which whereas were released inlike a deleted scene. Hmm. Yeah.

(41:46):
Um, but yeah, Clancy Brownhas been cast on the Penguin as
Salvatore Maroney. Yeah. I loveClancy Brown. I'm gonna put this in
a in a sentence that I thinkhe would understand, and a damn thing
wrong with that. He was thebest part of what was that show Sleepy

(42:07):
Hollow? You remember that? Oh? Yeah? Where he was like the
like the main ladies sheriff who gotkilled by the horri the headed. Yeah,
and he started showing up as likea ghost and talking to her and
shit. Yeah, I love ClancyBrown. He was a Lex Luthor on
Superman animated series for anyone who doesn'tremember. He was also General Eisling on

(42:29):
CW's The Flash, and he's beenin a ton of shit over the years.
Yeah. I just always enjoy him. I mean this as a a
friendly challenge. Name me one thingthat Clancy Brown ever did that wasn't good.
I don't mean the whole product,I mean his part. Yeah,
his part, you can't you can'tfind it. Man always kills, always

(42:51):
kills. He is often a badguy. He is also often a bad
guy. I mean, dude,he killed. Do you remember how I
SHBO Max canceled Batman Cape Crusader animatedseries. That ship is coming back.
Amazon picked it up two season order. We're talking Produced by Bruce Tim Matt

(43:14):
Reeves, JJ Abrams head writers EdBrubaker. I am stoked. Yeah,
I am super excited for that.Shit that is good on Amazon. It
has a real chance. M hmm. I mean they've definitely like killed some
properties here and there, but it'syeah, I mean, dear God,

(43:36):
I'll never forgive him for the tick. Yeah, I know. Same time,
We've got like an expansion of theBoys coming up. So yeah,
life gives and it takes, itdoes. H DC's dead Boy Detectives is
moving from HBO Max to Netflix, according to the report. The one season

(43:58):
Yeah. According to the report, the move was made for multiple reasons.
For starters, the show did notfit into the crop of new interconnected HBO
Max original series that will be partof James Gunn and Peter SAFFRAN'SDC Studios plans,
and HBO Max would also apparently notbe able to market the show until
twenty twenty four. So this isall cost measures and whatnot. And it

(44:21):
makes sense for Dead Boy Detectives, which was a spinoff of Sandman, to
be on Netflix anyway at some point. So maybe maybe we'll get a little
cross over there something with Sandman.I don't know, but I can do
with that. I'm just happy we'restill going to get to see it.
Honestly, everything's kind of unstable withHBO Max. Hell, it might not
even be called HBO Max. Ithink they're just changing it to Max next

(44:45):
month. Yeah, yeah, correctme up too, because I saw like
the headline was like it maybe HBOturning off viewers. It was like,
I don't know, man, HBOhas been around my entire life. I
think literally, mmm, like HomeBox Office. I don't know. I
don't know that if that's the problem, I will say that I would like

(45:07):
to see the data, like thefocus groups. I've been curious because as
much as the argument is like,no, HBO denotes quality, like,
there's also like a lot of peoplewho associate HBO with uh being expensive,
like as like right, because they'restill stuck in the idea of oh,

(45:30):
it's not it's a premium cable servicethat you have to pay extra for that.
Yeah, but dude, those wereour parents, I know, and
I know. But it also tricklesdown to younger people because I've talked to
younger people who are like, oh, no, HBO stuff is too expensive.
I've also talked to people who, again, how is this not eighteen

(45:51):
to forty nine, just not havinga different minion. I don't know.
I don't know what the reasons arethat they're saying that, but that's it.
Fuck it. I'm going back intosociology and psychology. But I've also
seen I've also seen people and youknow, take it for as a grain
of salt. We live in theSouth. I have talked to people goes

(46:12):
like, oh, man, yougotta check out HBO Max blah blah blah.
This is on there, and they'relike, oh, that's porn.
They associate HBO with like nudity, that was Skin of Max. Maybe it
was Skin of Max. But alsothere's a lot of nudy and Game of
Thrones. Oh no, for surethat Game of Thrones was unnecessary deaths or
sorry, not unnecessary cloing deaths andrandom boobs. That was the entire Like,

(46:37):
that was how that show subsisted about. I'm just saying people have certain
associations, at least down here withthe moniker HBO. Also, what is
the problem with random boobs? Aren'tthey just nice to see? Sometimes it
Maybe HBO stands for habitual boo boastings. Here's boobs? Okay, question mark

(47:12):
hi boobs on Uh yeah, Imean I don't care one way or the
other whether I see boobs. Ijust want to see a good story.
I don't really don't give a ship. Oh that was the whole point,
Like that was why I'm gonna somepeople are gonna have me. I know.
Game of Thrones had a good story. I just never got in past

(47:34):
the first few episodes, and thenthat's been my joke, my like through
line for for a lot of itwas like, oh yeah, yeah,
boobs and violence, That's that's great. M I know, that's a lot
of wet HBr has to offer, but it always has, like like Barry
Silicon Valley, like these are thingsthat I've like watched in the last month.
Yeah, one of those I knowfinished years ago. I was catching

(47:58):
up, like I legitimately and likelook into like why they said HBO is
stopping people from subscribing. I reallydon't know that. I mean what I
said is just conjecture on my part. I didn't read the article. I
just went, okay, yeah,I could see it from my own perspective,
my own anecdotal evidence. I'm surethey have tons of research that indicates

(48:21):
why people aren't subscribing. More sowhen I see people on the internet who
are just like shitting on this ideaand I'm like, and what research have
you done? Oh? You justdon't like you just don't like Warner Brothers.
Okay, cool, Yeah, it'sgonna be just angry. Yeah,
it's gonna be kind of shitty onthe just met about things back girl and

(48:45):
David Day's laugh and m yeah, that's gonna be the first wave of things.
There's always a like, there's alwaysa reason. As much as I'd
like to give them ship for it, there's there is probably some reason.
It is probably a folk grip situationh or God help them, God help
them if it's actually just the shareholders. But we'll see. I mean,

(49:10):
yeah, that's uh, I don'tknow. That's deeply in the developing.
We'll keep an eye on it.That's gonna be kind of funny kind of
thing. I actually didn't mind HBOgo as a as an app name.
That was bad. Well, Imean that was a different thing though,
wasn't it. I was just whenit was proper HBO like true Blood and

(49:32):
shit Ka marketing wise, it hitOkay, Yeah, you know what,
I don't care what the service isnamed. I mean, ultimately, you
just need access to the product, right, yeah, you call it Twitter
tits. I don't care. Yeah, look subscribe and twitter tits or whatever.

(49:55):
Yeah, I'm like, oh,good, good, let's let's tune
into Terry Flaps for the new episodeof Titans. Whatever. I don't give
a shit. Who picked up newpatrol semi flops? Cool all over it.
The Flash on CW has set aseries finale date. According to tv

(50:19):
Line, it is going to airWednesday, May twenty, fourth final episode.
End of the arrow Verse? Isthat actually it? I guess so,
I mean, unless they decide Uhno, I don't really I hadn't
thought about it, but yeah, you're right, that's that's it. Unless
they decided to shock everyone and orderjustice you or whatever the hell it was

(50:42):
with Diggle running that school that theytalked about. Yeah, now you're right
though, that that that would doit. Yeah, I mean Superman Lowis
is a proper arrow Verse any Morrisadjacent. Yeah it is. So that's
about all that's going on. Short. I got the nine, but yeah,
you're right, I'd have to actuallycatch up. I don't think I

(51:04):
can do that in two months.Yeah, probably I'm like three years behind
and in two days Gotham Knight's premiers. They have a premier synopsis. Batman
is dead and a powder keg hasignited Gotham City without the Dark Knight to
protect it. In the wake ofBruce Wayne's murder, his adopted son,
Turner is framed for killing the capedCrusader, along with the children of some

(51:24):
of Batman's enemies. Duel A Doeaka the Joker's Daughter, an unpredictable fighter
and skilled thief who was born inArkham Asylum and abandoned by her father.
Harper Row, a street wise anda cerbic engineer who can fix anything,
and her brother, Cullen Rowe,a clever, transgendered teen who was hired

(51:45):
sorry Tired of being polite and agreeablewith the charismatic and hard charging District Attorney
Harvey Dent and the GCPD hot ontheir trail, Turner will rely on allies,
including his best friend, informidable coderStephanie Brown and unlikely Batman's sidekick Kerry
Kelly, but our Knights will soonlearn there is a larger, more nefarious

(52:07):
force at worked within Gotham City. This team of mismatched fugitives must band together
to become this next generation of saviorsknown as the Gotham Knights. My god,
I am so disinterested CW. Likeall they ever want to do is
kill Batman, have Batman leave.Yeah, I mean that's that's fine.

(52:29):
I don't mind that part of it. I really don't. I just I've
seen a couple of clips and man, I haven't been able to carry yet.
Yeah, it does not look verygood to me. Like when I
say haven't watched the CW for afew years, I mean that, like
I really loved the CW for severalyears and just haven't gotten around to finishing.

(52:52):
Somewhat's coming gone. And then there'sthis other category where like I don't,
I don't have it any of me. I don't. I don't think
I care. That is different.I mean the other things, like Flash
finishing is I do deeply care aboutthat on a fundamental level, Like I

(53:15):
really want to finish that show.I will finish that show. Yeah,
but yeah, some of the newstuff not so much. Yeah, understand
the Superman four K collection. Man, they are celebrating the eighty fifth anniversary
of Superman. As far as uh, well, sorry, uh god,

(53:37):
my brain. They're celebrating the eightyfifth anniversary of Superman. Warre Brothers is
gonna do a Christopher Free Superman filmto four K release. It's gonna be
all the Richard Donner stuff, like, it's gonna be Chris Sorry, It's
gonna be Superman in the movie. It's gonna be Superman two, both cuts
theatrical and the Richard Donner cut umSuperman three and four. And they're also

(54:01):
gonna have a bunch of special features. They're gonna have Superman seventy eight number
one in there, the comic book. They have a photo book, a
three D lenticular card of Zod trappedin the Phantom Zone from Superman two.
If you find us on if youcan find it, it's like one hundred
and thirty bugs. Jeez, it'snot available on Amazon anymore. It's there,

(54:23):
there's a link, but like theydon't know when or if it will
be back in stock. What I'mactually more excited about, though, is
they are releasing, finally releasing blurays of Max Fleischer's Superman the nineteen forty

(54:45):
one to forty three serial My childhood. Mhm. It'll be available to purchase
digitally on HD and on Blu RayMay sixteenth, twenty twenty three. They
have been in constant release. Theyfell into the public domain. Anybody can
just you know, make copies andsell them at dollar stores and shit.

(55:06):
But one our Brothers Discovery says thattheir advanced remastering process began with a four
K sixteen bit scan of Fleischer's originalthirty five millimeters successive exposure negative, staying
true to the original theatrical aspect ratio. The highest quality raw image was then
scanned and then entered into the recombinedprocess, utilizing special proprietary software to merge

(55:30):
the successive exposure technicolor negatives into asingle RGB color image. The end result
are pristine animated shorts that have beenrestored to the animator's originally intended production quality.
Why does it sound like? DanAckroyd wrote that it sounds like Magistrate
to me, So that's definitely goingon my wish list. I love those

(55:51):
old Flysher cartoons. You know,we got a little bit of feedback.
