Transforming Dayenu for Easter: Reflecting on Christ's Purpose | Dear Daughters of God

In this episode of Dear Daughters of God, Stephanie Eccles shares how she transformed the traditional Jewish practice of Dayenu to focus on Jesus Christ's ultimate purpose – to bring to pass the plan of salvation. Inspired by a moving scene from 'The Chosen' Season 5: The Last Supper, Stephanie explores how each of Christ's miracles, from healing the blind to raising Lazarus, play a crucial role in this divine mission. By adapting the 'it would not have been enough' format, she guides us in reflecting on the significance of His life, death, and resurrection. Join us for a meaningful approach to celebrating Easter, centered on Christ's atonement and the everlasting impact of His actions.

Stephanie (00:00):
Hello, welcome to Dear Daughters of God.
My name is Stephanie Eccles,This is
a new tradition for Eastercelebrations.,
This Easter, I've decided to add an entirely new
tradition to my Easter Sunday, and it came just from going to
see the chosen season fivecalled the Last Supper.

(00:21):
In the movie theaters whattiming here It was about the
Holy Week, starting with PalmSunday and covering much of the
last week of our Savior, JesusChrist life on this earth.
What a way to prepare forEaster.
Well, just as the title says, the Last Supper, it was in that

(00:44):
scene that I was inspired.
To start a new tradition and Iwant to tell you about it.
I like having you here.
So be sure to like and subscribeso you can receive every video.
See you soon.
As a listener, you may notrealize that this episode on new
tradition for Eastercelebrations is in full color on

(01:06):
YouTube under the channel.
Dear Daughters of God, And it'sfull of pictures of our savior
and from the movie The Chosen.
I invite you to tune in there soyou can see the story come to
life.
Thank you for listening onto ourstory.
There was Jesus and his disciples and Jesus said to

(01:29):
one of the disciples, Will youstart And I thought, what is
Well, I've since found out thatis the Hebrew word for it would
have been enough.
I.
this practice is one that's usedby the Jewish people to help

(01:50):
them remember the blessings oftheir God, specifically at the
time of their exodus from Egypt,as Moses was leading them to
freedom.
Read.
And this is one way it can look.
At the dinner table, one personrecites just one line from that
exodus, part of that history, and then the whole dinner table

(02:11):
says together it would have beenenough.
Then another person at thedinner table recites the next
part of the history, just oneline, and then the whole table
again says it would've beenenough.
Well, to give you morespecifics, it's somewhat like
this.
They refer to he meaning God.

(02:34):
If he had parted the sea and notbrought us through on dry
ground, then the whole tablesays it would have been enough.
Then another member of thedinner table might say, if he
had brought us through on dryground but not caused our

(02:55):
enemies to drown.
Then everyone says it would havebeen enough.
Then another member of thedinner party might say, if he
had caused our enemies to drown, but not given us the supplies we
needed, as we wondered in thewilderness for 40 years, then
everyone says it would have beenenough.

(03:19):
Then another member of thedinner party might say.
If he had given us the supplieswe needed as we wondered the
wilderness for 40 years, but notfed us manna, it would have been
enough.
So that gives you an idea of andwhat it can look like.
It's that pattern of if and notif and not well.

(03:43):
To see this occur at the LastSupper with Jesus Christ and his
disciples was really moving.
It was reverent and sacred, itmade me want to learn more about
I then wondered, how could Ibring this practice into my

(04:03):
Easter Sunday?
But I want it to be about thesavior, Jesus Christ, as he
ministered on this earth.
The miracles he performed, howcould it be about that?
So I began to review thosemiracles, some of the miracles
were more personal, like when hehealed the blind man in

(04:25):
Bethsaida and in this miracle,it spoke to Christ's divinity.
it also was a symbolism forJesus Christ, bringing light
from darkness.
I looked at several miracles.
Another one was more about themasses, this one was when he fed
5,000 with five loaves of breadand two fish.

(04:49):
it taught another lesson aboutJesus providing abundantly.
if you looked at it as ametaphor, Jesus Christ nourished
these people.
Not only did he nourish themphysically, but he nourished
them spiritually.
So as I began to review thesemiracles, and then I tried to
put these words at the end, itwould have been enough.

(05:12):
It became clear those words werenot going to work because Jesus
Christ ultimate purpose on thisearth was to help, to bring, to
pass the plan of salvation.
And that required his life, hisdeath, his resurrection.
So then we could all of usrepent and be forgiven and

(05:38):
return to live with God thefather.
So these miracles alone wouldnot be enough.
So then I thought, I'm going tohave to alter this somewhat, but
still use it as a way to reviewthe blessings, the miracles that

(06:00):
Jesus brought to us, to thisworld as he was on this earth,
and this is what it looked like.
Now I chose these miracles andyou could choose any of Jesus's
miracles that you'd like ifJesus Christ ordained his 12

(06:24):
apostles and established hischurch on the earth, but did not
turn the water into wine at thewedding feast.
It would not have been enough ifJesus had turned the water into
wine at the wedding, but had nothealed the man with an unclean

(06:45):
spirit.
It would not have been enough ifJesus had healed the man with
the unclean spirit but had notfed the 5,000 with the five
loafs of bread and the two fish,it would not have been enough.

(07:06):
If Jesus had fed the 5,000 withthe five loafs of bread and the
two fish, but had not walked onwater, it would not have been
enough if Jesus had walked onwater but had not healed the
blind man in.

(07:29):
It would not have been enough ifJesus had healed the blind man
in Beth Theda, but had notraised Lazarus from the dead.
it would not have been enough.
if Jesus had raised Lazarus fromthe dead but had not suffered in

(07:51):
Gethsemane and on the cross.
It would not have been enough, but because God did have an
eternal perspective and didunderstand that all of us would
need an infinite atonement.
in order to return to him

(08:12):
so he set forth a plan ofsalvation.
God said, but behold, my beloved son, which was my
beloved and chosen from thebeginning, said unto me, father,
thy will be done and the glorybe thine forever.

(08:32):
and Jesus Christ did suffer inGethsemane and on the cross of
Calvary and died.
And was laid in a tomb and threedays later he did rise the risen
Lord in his resurrected body offlesh and bones.

(08:58):
And because Jesus atoned for oursins, it was enough.
It was enough.
I wish you all a happy Easterand hope that this tradition
might help your family bring.

(09:19):
the memory of our savior, JesusChrist and his atonement to your
Easter Sunday.
For now, I'll say farewell.
Until we meet again.
