Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome back to Deep Dive Dialogues.
I'm your host, dan Warheide, and I, as always, am pretty
excited to be here.
I want to also welcome you into2025.
We're officially about a weekin and I couldn't think of a
better way to kick off this newyear with you than to share with

(00:22):
you today's topic or maybetopics, but decluttering and how
to bring more health, morewealth and more excitement into
your life, your business, andI'm going to give you three
ideas that I think will help youto refresh in this new year

(00:48):
think will help you to refreshin this new year, so I hope
you're excited this year.
I want to share with you that.
You know I'm all about doublingdown on real-time connection
Less automation, fewerdistractions.
I've realized that genuinetransformation happens inside of
conversations.
They don't happen in any fancymarketing funnels, and I know
I've discussed in some of myother shows and even in some

(01:10):
interviews that I've done withothers in the past about my
focus on connecting and thisidea that I carry with me or
maybe it's a value, maybe it's a, I don't know, maybe it's wrong
, but that that the idea is thatcustomer service in this world
seems to be significantlylacking, and I believe that

(01:34):
there is a significantopportunity for those people who
can break through the noise, finding a way to stand out in
that world by focusing onconnecting with people genuine
human connection and that isalso why I've chosen to only
work by invitation or referral.

(01:56):
I don't use any spammy tactics.
I don't use any buzzwords orkeywords to try and attract or
entice anyone to want to workwith me.
I focus, rather, on realconnections.
It's also why I chose recentlyif you were to go take a look at

(02:16):
my website, danwus I've madesome well, I'm going to call
them significant changes thatare more in alignment with how
I'm showing up in the world, howI want to show up in the world
and what I have found to beextremely useful in growing a

(02:37):
prosperous coaching business orhelping people to experience
more of what they want in life.
My focus is to do that throughconnection and if you were to
call me and ask for somecoaching around this topic, this
is probably where we mightspend some time.
But I've made some significantchanges to my website to show

(03:02):
this and my focus on old schoolhuman-to-human interactions.
Essentially, it now says shootme an email, include your phone
number so we can hop on a callIf you're outside of the US, of
course, let's set up a Zoom andin fact, if that's your
preference, it is the secondmost preferred method for

(03:23):
connecting, along with a phonecalls, I think, are the second
most Interactive and effectiveway to communicate with people.
You know, I'd much rather meetsomeone in person, of course,
but if I can also accomplishsimilar results with the phone
call or a Zoom call, then thoseare great.

(03:43):
What I'm aiming for is skippingall the fancy tools and
automations and just focusing onconnecting, because that's
where the magic happens.
So if you take a look at that, you'll see that I've eliminated
all the things that couldpotentially distract from that
focus for me and for you, ifyou're the one visiting my site.

(04:09):
So, before I jump into our realcontent for today, you may have
heard me say this already ifyou've listened to the last few
episodes, but one of my coaches, crystal Prophet, who is a great
woman in the world ofpodcasting, encouraging and
teaching podcasters every day.

(04:30):
I chose to join her communitybecause I've been following her
work for a while.
In fact, she was one of themain resources that I utilized
when I first started podcastingback in early 2020.
I first started podcasting backin early 2020.
And anyway so, she hasencouraged me in a recent review

(04:50):
to ask for more reviews of myshow.
So here I am, asking you toplease take a moment to rate or
review this show, and you can doso.
It looks a couple differentways, depending on which app
you're listening in or whichdevice you're listening from.
And if all of that happens tobe too much to worry about

(05:12):
trying to figure out, simply goto my podcast website,
podcastdanwus, and you can leavea review directly on that site.
You could also leave avoicemail.
Tell me what you think, whatyou like, what you don't like,
what you might like to hear moreof All of those things.
Either way, I'd love to hearfrom you and, of course, I would

(05:35):
be remiss if I failed to offeryou my email.
Dan, at danwus, if you want toconnect with me, send me your
phone number or tell me yourpreference for Zoom, and we'll
coordinate a time and get on acall.
If you're in the United States,I'll call you when I'm
available, after I've receivedyour email.

(05:56):
As long as it's within theguidelines of the times that you
said, you're most likely to beavailable.
If it's a Zoom call.
We might have to do a littlebit more coordinating,
especially if you're not in theUS and I'm not immediately
available once I received youremail.
But for the most part, my goalis to try and reach out to you
directly as soon as possible.

(06:18):
Obviously, I have, you know, coaching, clients and other
activities that would keep mefrom responding immediately, but
I will do my best.
Anyway, now let's dive intotoday's focus.
I already said I want to talkto you about decluttering of

(06:39):
sorts and as we walk together inthis now second week of January
, it's amazing, right 2025,already into the second week and
I'm just over.
Actually, as of today, I'm justunder a week from moving once
again because we just bumpedthat up.
I just bumped that up a coupledays earlier to give me a little

(07:08):
extra time in coordinating afew things, so I don't know why
I shared that with you, butthere you go.
What I really wanted to tell youis that I have spent a lifetime
moving around the world.
It feels like a lifetime anyway.
You know good portion 16 and ahalf years.
If you don't know my story, Idid not do a full 20 career in

(07:32):
the military, but I am retiredfrom the army and it was, you
know, at the time of myretirement is almost half of my
lifetime, so it is a lifetime ofmoving around the world with
that career and it seems likesecond nature when I think about
it.
But this time I found it was Idon't know, it was much more

(07:55):
challenging.
It was a bit different.
Maybe it's very exciting thethings that are coming, but it
definitely presented differentthoughts and different feelings,
emotions that came up, probablymost likely related to having
moved in the military.
So if you've never talked tosomeone or experienced that

(08:16):
yourself, let me just quicklyshare.
When I'm talking about this ideaof decluttering, I think this
will make sense.
I moved around every coupleyears courtesy of the United
States Army and first of all, itwas much easier.
I always opted for the packersand movers to come do it for me,

(08:36):
rather than packing it all upand putting it in a truck and
trying to collect whatever extramoney I could from doing it
myself what they called ado-it-yourself move or a ditty
move.
In the military, there wereplenty of people who tried to
utilize that just to gain alittle extra edge from an income
standpoint.
It was so much easier to letthem come in and manage it the

(08:58):
problem or the downside withletting someone else come in and
pack up everything for you.
We, by the way, were very luckythroughout that process not to
experience any real damage ofany of our household goods.
But it was packed.
For the most part it was packedand labeled accordingly.
But there were things that wouldend up in boxes with other

(09:21):
items from maybe other rooms, maybe kitchen items in a bedroom
box, because the space and theytried to conserve space in that
process of packing thematerials and filling the boxes
to capacity, and you know, noteverything fits like a puzzle
necessarily, and so we ended upover the years with boxes that

(09:45):
for many reasons, you know, maybe we didn't unpack a certain
box because we didn't have thespace for decor items that we
had in our previous house orapartment or whatever it may
have been at the time, or maybethere was some kitchen stuff
that didn't quite fit into thenew kitchen, there were some

(10:14):
kitchen stuff that didn't quitefit into the new kitchen, or you
know what.
What ended up being was thiscollective group of things that
didn't get unpacked and in thiscollective group of items and
working to unpack most of whathad been carried around and
possibly stored much longer thananticipated, and I know the

(10:35):
ideas around.
You know, if you haven't usedit in a year or two then it's
probably time to get rid of it.
But there's a wealth ofsentimental things that I needed
to process before being able topurge from my life.
I have been on a journey overthe last couple of years of sort
of coming to a place of moresimplicity.
I like the idea of being ableto pick up and move, although I

(10:58):
have collected some nice thingsover the years that I don't want
to part with.
I have a nice collection ofbeer steins from my time in
Germany, as one example, andhere's a collector.
If you're a collector you mayrelate, but for a long period of
time, everywhere I went in theworld I would bring home a shot
glass, and, you know, for noparticular reason other than it

(11:20):
was an easy item to pack in asuitcase or carry in a bag and
it was not very expensive.
So it was really easy to stopby any gift shop and pick up a
shot glass as a remembrance ofthat location, and even my
daughters got involved in thisprocess and it was sort of just
a fun way to take note of someof the significant places I went

(11:43):
and some of the significantplaces we all went or some of us
went, you know, depending onwhat was going on different
vacation spots, et cetera.
It's just a fun way to be apart of that for all of us and,
as a result, I have a lot ofshot glasses that, honestly, are
still in a box because I don'thave a very good way to display

(12:06):
them and I don't want them tojust take up cabinet space where
nobody can see them, where Ican't enjoy them, and so they're
still in a box as one example.
Anyway, that had me realizing,in this move, all of this tied
together right In this move,I've realized that there's still
more to unpack, there's stillmore to declutter and there's

(12:27):
still more to purge.
And I've been doing a thoroughprocess as thorough process in a
fairly short time, of purgingsome things I know I can part
with right now, and that's notbeen too bad, but just a new
experience, if you will been toobad, but just a new experience,

(12:47):
if you will.
Anyway, I digress from that andI want to move on with our
content for today.
But, you know, coupled with allof this.
I will share a couple otherpoints.
A few months back, if you'velistened to me on this show
before, I've mentioned that Istarted 75 Hard, which is a
mental resilience program, andit has a definite physical

(13:10):
component to it as well.
I didn't complete the programbecause well, to be frank, I
missed the daily progress photoon day 27, just after
Thanksgiving, and I didn'tcomplete it.
And I was quite disappointedwhen I woke up in the morning
and realized that I hadforgotten and I'd come this far
in the journey.
But I learned some things inthat process as well.

(13:33):
I have continued many of thehabits that I picked up in that
process and in that challengeand it's been amazing for my
health, for my fitness, for mymental well-being.
I've been reading more, I'vebeen staying more hydrated, but
I think, more importantly, it'sreally helped me to become more
in touch with my creativity andget clearer on where I want to

(13:58):
be and where I want to go in mylife and in my business.
Now, if that program has everintrigued you because of other
people talking about thebenefits or the results that
they've experienced yet it seemslike a bit far-fetched
challenge for you, then I'mexcited to share with you and
I've just joined as well.

(14:20):
But one of the people that Ilike and follow and have been
connected connected with For afew years now.
His name is Leslie Samuel.
It's L-E-S-L-I-E Samuel.
He created a more sustainableprogram For those who may have
an interest In benefits Of aprogram like 75 hard but may see

(14:43):
it as More challenging thanthey want or maybe maybe more
challenging than they're able totake on, based where you're at
in your life, and I wouldencourage you to check out this
free program.
He started it on officially.
We kicked off on january 1st,so there's still plenty of time
to get in and and join thiswonderful community, gain some

(15:04):
support and accountability inthe process.
In fact, there's someaccountability built right into
the program and I really lovethat.
So the program is called theLife Forge Community.
You can follow Leslie onFacebook and find a recent post
where he posted a link to theapplication, but I'm going to
put that in the show notes foryou as well.

(15:25):
If you have any issues withthat link, you have my email.
Please reach out and I'llinvite you directly.
Love to see you there If any ofthe things I talked about talk
about coming up today, resonatewith you and you'd like to join
a supportive community again,it's completely free and I'm not

(15:46):
gaining anything other than theknowledge that you are working
to improve yourself.
All right, so maybe a little bitof big news, or at least it's
big news for me, but I'm movingto the beach Now.
If you've heard me talk aboutthis for before, you know that
this has been one of the thingsI have been most looking forward

(16:09):
to since moving to Florida.
I only live about 25 minutesfrom the beach driving, but I
guess that just wasn't enoughfor me.
One of my goals has been tofind a place that meets most of
my check blocks, check boxes, and move closer to the beach.
So now I'm going to prepare tobe only a block away, so I'll be

(16:32):
enjoying many more sunrisewalks.
If you follow me on socialmedia, you probably have seen
some of those sunrises before.
This move has really inspired meto purge those unnecessary
items of clutter from my life.
The reason I've talked about 75Hard and what that program has

(16:54):
done for me and what I've beenable to continue on, is because
of the clutter I've also beenable to clear from my mind
through that journey, throughthe new routines I've created as
I've prepared for this move andas I work through the challenge
of 75 hard and beyond, and I'verealized that I'm also moving
into a more focused and morerefreshed mindset.

(17:16):
So, as we begin this new year,I want to ask you what do you
need to clear out?
Think about your mental clutteras we go into this content.
Think about your office clutter.
Think about the physicalclutter taking up space in your
house or your garage, andimagine what clearing all of
that can do for you, for yourlife and your business.

(17:37):
This year, we've now set, Ithink, I hope, the stage for
2025.
We've talked about real-timeconnection.
I want to dive into the threeareas that I'm pressing refresh
on in my own life my body, myhealth and my mind and I've

(17:58):
touched on them briefly.
By focusing on daily movements, mindful eating and ongoing
learning learning I have beenable to find a sort of renewed
spark in my routine and it's hadjust a tremendous ripple effect
on my creativity, my energy, the overall momentum that I'm

(18:18):
experiencing.
So I want to share those threekey areas of refresh, if you
will, with you, and I hope thatthese will benefit you as you
think about what you can do torefresh in your own life this
year.
All right, so the first way I'vebeen refreshing my life is

(18:40):
through daily exercise.
Talked about it plenty, whetheryou're walking, whether you hit
the gym or you're doing someother type of fitness.
I encourage you to first of allmake it fun and then to
continue to be a gruelingprocess.
It doesn't have to be someintimidating monster of fitness
program unless, of course, that's what you enjoy.

(19:02):
I know some people who really, really really get into that
space, but if that's not for you, then I would say, how can you
make it fun?

(19:22):
How can you simply focus onjust steady improvement, right?
Maybe your walk time gets alittle faster each day, or you
walk a little further each day.
Maybe you're doing a coupleextra repetitions with the
weights today instead of whatyou did yesterday.
Whatever that looks like, youknow, keep it fun, don't make it
overly burdensome for you, andenjoy it.

(19:48):
Enjoy the process of steadyimprovement.
That is one way to refresh yourbody through exercise.
Now I couple my workouts withpodcasts or other inspirational
content, and you may have heardme talk about it, but in
November I also listened to theStrangest Secret audio daily for

(20:10):
the first 30 minutes of myworkouts, whatever it was, and
having that extra mentalstimulation, I found really
helped me spark more refreshedcreativity and inspiration, and
it gave me new ideas to explore, new ideas to implement in my
own life and in my coaching andin my business.

(20:32):
And I mean well, it wasrefreshing.
That's why I came up with thatkeyword for today refresh.
Now, again, exercise doesn'thave to be a chore and it really
, I don't know, I don't know.
I want to impress this on you, right, because I've heard so
many people talk about howexercise is such a chore, how

(20:56):
it's painful, and you know, Ithink that process creates a
miserable experience for peoplethat, truthfully, most people
and the way we live our lives.
That's not sustainable.
I want you to focus again onmaking it fun and focusing on
steady improvement to keep it asa sustainable thing, something

(21:16):
you actually look forward togetting up and doing each day or
doing in the evenings beforeyou go to bed, or whatever your
nighttime routine may be, andwherever you incorporate this
into your world.
I want you to be able tosustain this over a much longer
duration.
I work out currently seven daysa week.

(21:37):
That's one of the things I tookfrom 75 hard and I mix it up.
Some days I'll go for a walk, some days I'll go to the gym and
work out extra hard becausethat's how I'm feeling for that
day, and some days I'll do somemoderate or even lighter
exercise.
Some days I go to a CrossFitbox or gym that we have here

(21:59):
locally that I enjoy.
You know, there is no realrhyme or reason other than what
is going to make it fun for metoday.
So I'm practicing what I'mpreaching, if you will, and
really just sharing what'sworked well for me.
So find a way to make it workwell for you.

(22:20):
Again, I pair my workouts withthat inspirational content
whether it's podcasts, audiobooks or motivational talks that
encourage you to find something, because this is like a two for
one time.
You can get your mental build, your mental resiliency or
creative inspiration and getyour body moving, so you're

(22:41):
feeding your mind and your bodyat the same time.
Right, give it a shot.
Try listening to something likethe Strangest Secret and see
what new ideas may come for you.
And that's how I have found I'mable to get my reading in each
day not through that time period, because I keep my reading
separate, but that's how I getextra podcast content in for

(23:05):
listening and looking for newideas or listening for new
insights, whatever it may be.
Consistency, I think, isprobably the most important
piece here.
Again, I said I'm doing sevendays a week.
75 Hard asked you to do 45minutes a day, twice a day.
One of them had to be outside,so I've reduced that to only one

(23:29):
workout most days.
Some days I might go for a walkjust because I feel inspired or
feel like I should move alittle more that day, and it may
be 30 minutes, it may be 45minutes or more.
I don't now because of theprogram I'm involved in with
Leslie.
There is a 30-minute dailyworkout or body movement

(23:50):
exercise type habit that he'swanting to see us implement.
I'm not sure how to phrase that, but for his program there is a
daily 30-minute commitment toan exercise of some sort and
again, it's also focused on juststeady improvement, whatever
that exercise is that you choose.

(24:12):
So the second area I'mrefreshing is with regard to my
health.
This really pertains to dietand hydration.
If I'm being completelytransparent, you know there are
other things here.
I told you I fell off of 75hard because of the photograph.
I chose not to restart from dayone at least not yet because I

(24:36):
really wanted to partake in someof the holiday festivities.
If I'm being honest, I enjoy agood wine, I enjoy a good beer
or a good mixed drink, whateverit may not, whatever it may be,
but there are a few that I doenjoy and I chose not to
continue with 75 hard throughthe duration of the holidays
because I had that opportunity.

(24:57):
Maybe it was such subconsciousprogramming that that I failed
to take that photograph, I don'tknow.
Either way, I've enjoyed theholidays and now I'm involved in
this new program that startedon the first and I'm absolutely
enjoying it.
And I digress so the real focushere is on water intake.
I don't always drink a fullgallon every day, as I did

(25:20):
during 75 hard, but it'sdefinitely way more than before
I started it.
Definitely, yeah, it's reallyabout what we're putting into
our bodies.
Right, being mindful of whatyou're putting in, starting with
water and increasing thatintake has tremendous benefits
all by itself.
And if you're like me, youmight've tried drinking a gallon

(25:44):
a day before and it can seemlike a big task.
But you know, depending on yourlevel of output, of course that
becomes easier, but even just afew extra glasses of water a
day can work wonders for yourmood, your ability to focus and
improve your overall health.
Also, during the 75 hardchallenge and even during this

(26:07):
new challenge with Leslie, youhave to choose a diet or an
eating plan to stick to, andthey encourage to stick to it
strictly.
These days, I've regarded thatand I'm a bit more flexible in
that I remain very mindful ofwhat I am eating.
I eat a lot fewer processedfoods, for instance.
I definitely eat a lot lessbreads and pastas, or those bad

(26:32):
carbs you might call them.
I don't know, I'm not anutrition and health expert, but
certainly know that thosethings give me some lethargic
feeling when I eat them, and soI've reduced that significantly.
I focus on more fresh andbalanced meals, and this has
given me more renewed energy andbetter sleep overall, helping

(26:56):
me to feel better.
When it comes to food, I'm not abig fan of rigid diets.
I don't think that rigid dietsare sustainable.
That's my personal opinion.
Again, I'm not a professionalin that space, but it's worked
well for me.
But it's worked well for me andI've seen it work well for

(27:16):
others where I've seen some ofthese very strict diet programs
or eating programs not besustainable over a long period
of time.
So I really believe it's moreabout being mindful of how you
feel after you eat certain meals.
But those little choices add upand the goal is to keep it
sustainable, because you're morelikely to stick with an eating

(27:37):
style if it feels good and itdoesn't feel like some sort of
punishment, right All right.
So the third area that I'mrefreshing and wanted to share
with you is my mind, this isreally about reading and
listening.
Every day, I read a minimum of10 pages from a nonfiction book,

(27:58):
and I do prefer a physical bookor my Kindle.
I have the Kindle Paperwhiteand I've really enjoyed that,
and often I will read more thanthose 10 pages, of course, and I
found that this really hashelped to fuel my creativity.
It helps me to increase myfocus on my work, but I also

(28:19):
listen to podcast content daily.
I told you I tend to combine myworkouts every day with podcast
content and I subscribe to ahandful that I am able to gain
new insights from and, to becompletely honest, I don't
always listen to every episodefrom each one of them If I start
to listen to it and it's justnot resonating with me in the

(28:42):
moment.
I will skip it, and I thinkprobably many podcast listeners
would acknowledge that they havesimilar patterns when it comes
to what they choose to listen to.
But listening to these thingshas really helped to open my
mind to new creative ideas andoffer fresh perspectives.

(29:04):
Let me add a couple more pointsabout the books.
Right so, 10 pages a day thatmight seem small to some people,
but it's amazing.
At least my reconnection tothis daily reading habit has
helped me realize how trulyamazing it is that those little
daily doses have really helpedto fuel my creativity, my

(29:27):
problem solving, and offer thosefresh perspectives.
And offer those freshperspectives and podcasts right
Tuning into those shows thatchallenge your way of thinking
or introduce you to new ideas.
Call it found time right.
You can listen while you'redriving, you're doing chores or
you're doing your workouts, sothere's definitely a benefit to

(29:52):
what you can do with that timewhen you're choosing to
intentionally engage in.
You know exercise for 30minutes or 45 minutes or even
longer.
By the way, bonus points if youtake notes after you're
listening or after your workout, you know, or after your drive.
Certainly don't want you totake notes while you're driving,
but if you take, you know, jotdown those best takeaways or how

(30:16):
you might apply some of thesethings in your life or business,
then being able to capture thatfor later is super helpful.
All right of this by saying it'sreally about decluttering your

(30:38):
world, driving into 2025 with arenewed or refreshed sense of
self, increased momentum andincreased confidence.
By focusing on your refreshingin your physical fitness, with
your diet and your mentalwell-being.
You're creating, or you shouldbe working on, not should.
I'm not going to tell you whatyou should do, but you could be

(30:58):
creating these new dailyroutines that are fun, they're
engaging and, hopefully, they'reinspiring to you and then, of
course, to the people whom youmight be working with, whether
your clients or coworkers, whatever your situation is, and
this is how you can trulydeliver more powerful

(31:20):
experiences.
Let me leave you with thisquestion what are you clearing
out of your life in 2025?
Whether it's your life, yourbody, your health, your mind to
focus on truly kick-startingmore health, wealth and
excitement this year.

(31:41):
What are you decluttering, cluttering, what are you
clearing out?
And remember this declutteringisn't just about getting rid of
stuff.
I started with that just as oneof my examples, but it's led to
so much more through the thingsthat I've experienced over the
