Do churches have guest speakers, conferences whereby they have many speakers, or seminars and retreats? Yes and I know because I was a part of the church system for over 25-years and I helped pull many of these things together including being a presenter. Why open with this? Because I want to head off any questions as to why I might be using so many books in my messages. It is important to understand that this has always been the method which even our own Jesus used.
Luke 10:1 - After these things the Lord appointed seventy others also, and sent them two by two before His face into every city and place where He Himself was about to go.
Now so yes, Jesus followed up after them. You could say that His initial crews were like icebreakers and that the main event was to follow them. Not so today. We are the main event and the ice breakers. Now well so how does this parlay, that is, how we use our money, talent, or other assets to achieve His desired objective, into the use of other peoples messages to support the ministry. And well since most of the authors are dead they are not really supporting the ministry as much as they are helping me to teach, which I guess is really helping to support the ministry.
Oh that we could do something of note on earth that after Jesus calls us home our contribution when we were alive would continue to live on. Sounds like what Jesus intended right? Yup, and so it is that when I read or come across something that I think could help my listeners that I use a part or the entire book if small enough to convey the point. Just like churches use guest speakers, I too use them, it’s just that they won’t be available for any book signings. Ha, but no and also we have heard that there is no need to reinvent the wheel, which is an American Idiom used when something that we need already exists. Does using other people’s messages preclude me from being diligent in my studies? Nope, obviously I have learned something from the person in whom I want to share, but also I seek out who influenced them and get some of their stuff as well.
