S1, E11 - Defining Talent With Tanya Kane-Parry

If you've ever been driving through the Cal State LA campus, and you spot a bicyclist with a backpack on, and a Maltese-ish dog is poking its head out of the backpack and looking around, chances are you've just spotted Tanya Kane-Parry and her dog Amlo. Tanya has been a full-time faculty member for the Department of Theatre and Dance at Cal State LA since 2001, and she and I actually first met in 2004, when she created and coordinated a two-week Viewpoints intensive for CSU Summer Arts that was taught by Mary Overlie and Anne Bogart. Tanya is a multi-multi hyphenate, whose work as a performer, choreographer, director, and artist has always intersected with her activism and questioning of power structures and authority/hierarchy.
