Berly (00:01):
Music. Welcome to denim
wrapped nightmares, Tipsy
exchange Podcast where weexplore the supernatural series,
episode by episode, over
LA (00:11):
drinks, we'll discuss the
lore the gore and what we adore
about the Winchesters and theiradventures.
Berly (00:17):
I'm Burleigh and I'm a
new fan of the series.
LA (00:20):
I'm LA, and I'm here along
for the ride. Now let's get
tipsy.
Unknown (00:27):
Hello LA, hello Burly.
Berly (00:30):
Last week we watched
home, Home again, home again.
Jiggety, jig. Have you neverheard that saying, My that's one
of the things that my parentswould say that just has stuck in
my mind. That's cute anytimewe'd be going home, like, Home
(00:50):
again, home again. Jiggety, jigthat's what you say. Is it's
what you say when you're goinghome. Like, is
LA (00:55):
it a thing, or did they
just, like, make it up?
Berly (00:57):
Hang on. Let me see.
Okay, yeah, I've never heardthat. It's from a nursery rhyme,
apparently. Oh, okay. Called tomarket to market. Huh?
Unknown (01:07):
We learn something new
every day, every day.
Berly (01:11):
Well, anyway, what was
home about? Let's back home.
Let's do a quick recap aboutwhere we were last week before
we get into where we are thisweek. Well,
LA (01:22):
it starts out, Sam has
another dream premonition of a
lady in a house, and this iswhere, this is kind of the
episode we've like, learnedsolidly that Sam's got some what
is ESP going on? He's psychic, yeah? And in his premonition, he
realizes it's their childhoodhome, and so he has to convince
(01:43):
Dean to go back home. BecauseDean wasn't going,
Berly (01:45):
No, they did, like, a
That's So Raven moment too,
where they were showing us thedream, and then, like, zoomed
out, and it's Sam, yeah, didn'tthey? Or am I making that up? I
don't know. I might be makingsay that. I'm like, wait a
minute, yeah,
LA (01:57):
they go home and meet the
lady that is now living in their
house, and she's, you know, pretty much her and her little
daughter tell them it's theplace is haunted, yeah. And they
go around town, kind of askingabout their dad, and find out
that he used to go see thispsychic named Missouri, and
played by the fabulous Loretodivine. Yes, so good. And so she
(02:22):
goes with them to the house.
They figure out it's apoltergeist that's inhabited the
place, and they set up aboutthey tell the lady, hi, kick it
out of the place with your kids.
We'll take care of this. Theythrow some shit in the walls to
get rid of the poltergeist, yeah. And eventually they do
after it kind of seizes Sam alittle Yes, and then a
(02:48):
surprising entity arrives tosave the day.
Berly (02:54):
You can't spoil it. We
talked about it last week. Is
their mama? Their mom? It'stheir mama, yes. And then
another surprise at the end, their dad is in town right
hanging out with Missouri. Man,
LA (03:07):
I'd be pretty mad if I was,
like, working my butt off,
traveling everywhere, liketrying to find my dad just, he's
hanging out with my friend I wasjust talking to, right or not,
my friend, his friend? Yeah, I'dbe, I'd be pretty pissed past
Berly (03:21):
off so that's
LA (03:23):
the gist of it. It was a
good one. I enjoyed it, yeah,
Berly (03:26):
I liked it. It was a good
one. I really liked this week's
episode too. Yeah, it was good.
It was very much dark, dark. Andit was, I would say, of the
quality of an independent horrorfilm. Yeah, I agree. I really
enjoyed several of the shotsthat were in it. They didn't
overdo the special effects.
(03:47):
Yeah, for this with the ghostsand everything, I liked it a
lot. Yeah, I think it was welldone. So this week was asylum,
and the episode starts off withtwo cops in front of the
deserted Roosevelt asylum inRockford, Illinois. The officers
are Walter Kelly and DanielGunderson. And Gunderson is
(04:13):
hilarious and wonderful, and Iwas right off the bat saying, if
something happens to him, I'mgoing to be very upset, because
he was really great aboutletting us, the audience, know
about this abandoned asylum, andthat it's scary and it's
haunted, but they can't keep thekids out,
LA (04:32):
doesn't he say, like, you
spend the night and the spirits
drive you insane? Yes.
Berly (04:38):
So he gave us a great
backstory. He just seemed like a
nice guy. He did. I likedofficer Gunderson. Me too. So
they go in, and they're lookingaround, and they split up.
Gunderson ends up finding somekids that were in there,
drinking, hanging out, doingwhatever. And he tells them, get
the fuck out of here, kids. Andhe walks them outside and
(04:59):
watches. Them drive off. Andwhile he's doing that, Officer
Kelly is wandering around, andhe's going down this dark hall,
and there's this door with thehazmat or biohazard symbol on
it, and he decides to go in,yeah, because of all the doors
in the place, why would that notbe the one you would choose to
go into? And while he's inthere, a mysterious door opens,
(05:24):
and then we don't see whathappens to him, until he's
suddenly outside behind officerGunderson and Officer Gundersen,
just like, found the kids, sentthem on their way. Let's hit it.
And he's like, are you okay? Andofficer Kelly goes, Yes, and
then he turns his head, andblood comes running out of his
nose, so we know already officerKelly is not okay, not No, he's
(05:48):
not doing well. Then he goeshome, and apparently he and
wifey had an argument aboutsomething, yeah, because right
off the bat, she's going,
LA (05:57):
I'm sorry. She's like, How
many times do I have to
apologize? Yes,
Berly (06:02):
and then he pulls his gun
out and is like, you're never
apologizing again, and he killsher.
LA (06:07):
He didn't say that, but
Berly (06:09):
he said it with his gun,
yeah, well, yeah, yes. And then
we find out later, he turned thegun on himself as well. So
again, Officer Kelly, not okay.
Cut to Sam and Dean Winchesterboys in a motel, hotel, holiday
and what have you, somewhere, and they are going through their
(06:30):
dad's journal. They'reapparently reaching out to some
of their dad's contacts, basically trying to find out,
has anybody seen JohnWinchester, where is this guy?
And they haven't been able tofind any leads. And then Dean's
phone starts ringing, and sohe's looking for his phone. And
(06:52):
then it stops ringing, and itturns out it was a text message
all along. Confused me, I'mgonna say, and it's coordinates.
And Dean, being Daddy's littlesoldier, is like, let's go. Dad
is sending us on a job. Let'sgo. Sam, being the rebel, has
questions. He wants to knowwhere dad is. Why is dad keep
(07:15):
sending us on jobs? What isgoing on? What
LA (07:20):
the fuck dad,
Berly (07:21):
right?
LA (07:22):
I just that just sounded
weird, like I would never say
that to my dad, so it justsounded very strange when I was
like, wow, God. Just said that.
I
Berly (07:31):
think he would say that
to your dad if he wasn't
answering your calls. True, yeah, and then would just send
you a text message withcoordinates in it. True. True,
true. Okay, you know, I can'tcall you back, but here, yeah,
here's this, and
LA (07:43):
I'm hanging out with a
friend that you were just
hanging out with, right?
Berly (07:46):
Secretly, and I haven't
seen you guys because I can't,
yeah, what's up? What's up?
What's going on. I want to knowwhat's happening. They look up
the coordinates, and it turnsout, it's Guess what? Rockford,
Illinois, the Roosevelt asylumDean remembers, oh yeah, this is
in dad's journal. So they go andlook in the journal, and there's
(08:06):
an article from 1972 about somekids who disappeared in the
south wing at that time, they goto the asylum they do some
digging around. They're in thesouth wing. They're in the
office, and they find a signabout the Chief of Staff, who
was Samford Ellicott. Andthey're just like, Okay, so
(08:30):
we've got a name, we've gotsomething to start with. Let's
do some research into that. Thenthey track down ellicott's kid.
I think it was, it was a son orhis grandson, James Ellicott,
who's also a psychiatrist. Iguess it runs in the family. And
Sam goes and has an appointmentwith the doctor. And during the
(08:50):
appointment, the doctor sayssomething about, okay, we all,
if you're a history buff, youknow, there was a big riot that
happened at Roosevelt asylum, and it turns out that there were
multiple people killed, including the Sanford Ellicott,
chief of staff doctor guy, andthat his body was never found,
and that there were other bodiesthat were never found, which is
(09:11):
just creepy, weird. Yeah, Idon't think they said that it
burned down or anything. I thinkthey just said that there was a
riot and the bodies weren'tbound. So what happened to them?
Right? I guessed that somebodyate them, but spoiler warning, I
was wrong, just in case anybodyelse was thinking the same thing
(09:32):
as me, because I'm apparentlydemented. No. So the guys
decide, okay, well, obviously,if we want to stop this
haunting, if we want to stopthese kids from going missing,
we need to go find these bodiesand salt and burn them. Burn
that body. They go back to theasylum, and there is a girl
there with her little boyfriend, and they've been wandering
(09:53):
around the asylum, and they'vegotten split up. So the
girlfriend is high. In one room, and the boyfriend is in another
room, and one of the ghostscomes up to him. And I'll admit,
I kind of thought it was her atfirst too. There was something
off, and I didn't know what wasoff. I looked like her hair,
yeah. I thought maybe she waspossessed or something. There
was something off. But she goeswandering up to him, and he's
(10:15):
like, Oh Hey, baby. And theystart making out, grabs and then
kiss, oh yeah, she went for it,and then Wally's kissing her.
You hear the girlfriend in thebackground go, Gavin, where are
you? Yes, I would go crazy. Iwas pissed myself. It was so
creepy. And so Gavin leans backand sees her, and her face is
(10:37):
messed up. Real nice stuff, yeah, especially around the eye,
LA (10:42):
yeah, yeah. When you said it
looked like, almost like, a
bottle. The bottom of a bottlehad been smashing, yeah, yeah,
something
Berly (10:49):
was going on there. It
was really scary, yeah. So Gavin
screams and runs away, and sohe's gone. Kat has gone and
hidden somewhere. They'recompletely split up. When the
guys find them. They find catfirst, and she tells them, my
stupid fucking boyfriend broughtme here because he thought it'd
be fun to see ghosts, and Ididn't believe in them, but I've
(11:10):
seen some shit while I've beenhere, so I'm scared. They tried
to take her outside, and she'slike, No, I'm not leaving
without my boyfriend. She wassinging a different tune by the
end of the episode, though, because she did decide before
the end of the episode that shewas breaking up with them if
they got out of there alive. SoI thought that was funny, that
in the beginning, when theyfirst find her, like, I'm not
(11:30):
leaving without him, and by theend, we're breaking up. Yeah. So
they help find Gavin, and Gavintells them how he had fallen and
hit his head or somethingwhenever Sam found him. And so
he tells him what happened. AndSam says, Did she try to hurt
you, though? Because Sam had runinto a ghost as well, and she
(11:55):
just slowly walked up to himwith her arms out like she
wanted a hug, right? And Deanswung an iron rod at her to get
rid of her. And Sam said shedidn't want to hurt me. I could
tell she wanted to tell mesomething. So he was really
wanting to make sure that he gotit clear with the boy that it
was the same thing. And then itwas the boy was like, she kissed
me. She scared the shit out ofme. I'm scarred for life. But
(12:18):
no, she didn't try to hurt me. Ithink she was trying to tell me
something too. So Sam's like,I've connected it. I've got,
I've got something going here.
In the meantime, Dean is walkingaround with cat, and that scene
was fucking cool. Which oneDean's walking with cat? And
they stopped for a second. He'slike, messing with his
flashlight. I think it'sflashlight was flashing on and
off, and then cat goes, You'rehurting my arm.
LA (12:42):
Oh, that one yes, yes.
Berly (12:44):
And Dean looks up and
turns to look at her. It's like,
what are you talking about? Andhis flashlight comes on, and we
see a hand on cat's arm. Andthey had to have sped it up or
something, because somethingpulls cat into a room, and the
door slams around behind her. Itwas
LA (13:03):
like, it's like, they
whipped her around and, like,
just Dr, like, not even dragged, like, in the air, pulled her
into the room. It
Berly (13:10):
was cool. Yeah, it was
super fast. We watched it two or
three times, but it was a verycool shot. This was one of those
shots where I immediately wasgoing. This is Movie quality,
indie movie, but movie qualitynonetheless. And then I
remembered what we learned inour pilot episode, that this is
all low budget. So kudos toeverybody on this episode. I
(13:31):
thought y'all did great. So Samand Gavin come and find Dean
trying to break into this doorto help Kat. And Sam tells her,
don't fight it. Just face him.
He just wants to tell yousomething. So Kat follows Sam's
advice, yeah,
LA (13:46):
because there's another
ghost in there with her with a
messed up eye.
Berly (13:49):
Yes, I forgot that part.
Yeah, yes. So the ghost pulledher into the room, because
that's where they were. So shefollows Sam's advice, and the
ghost tells her room 137 so shegets out of the room after he
tells her that, and of course, they decide to split up again.
Because, yeah, it's just whatyou do in these situations. Get
LA (14:08):
these kids out of here.
Yeah.
Berly (14:10):
So Sam takes Kat and
Gavin and is trying to get them
out of the asylum, but forwhatever reason, they can't find
an exit. And even when they findsomething that they think they
can get out with, Sam can't getthe door open, and there's bars
on all the windows, so even ifthey broke the glass, they
couldn't get out that wayeither. Not sure what happened
there. They didn't reallyexplain it. Yeah, it was just
(14:30):
kind of this general, you know, whatever's here doesn't want us
to leave, kind of thing. And itwas left at that and Dean went
looking for room 137 so Sam getsa call from Dean, and all of a
sudden, Dean's saying, No, I'min the basement. Come down here,
LA (14:47):
which, okay, I had a problem
with because Sam was just sort
of like, All right, I'll bethere. I'll go, go meet in the
basement when I'm like, the planwas to go to room 4137, like,
why would I would on the phone.
I would have been like, well.
Are you doing in the basement? Ithought we were supposed to be
in that room, but no. Sam, justokay. I'll pay there, which
Berly (15:05):
is odd, because you have
all these questions for your
daddy, yeah, but if Dean tellsyou something all of a sudden,
it's no questions asked. Yeah.
LA (15:13):
I was like, That was dumb.
Hmm, Sam,
Berly (15:18):
maybe you do need to go
back to that doctor, that shrink
doctor, and talk more about yourbrother. Yeah, huh.
So Sam goes down to thebasement, and we see the same
fucking doors that the coppassed by earlier, first the
boiler room and then the weirdbiohazard room. The door flies
(15:40):
open, and the ghost of DrSanford Ellicott, the bad
doctor, is down there, and hedoes something to Sam, we don't
grab his
LA (15:50):
head, yeah? Like, lights him
up. There's like, the lightning,
yeah,
Berly (15:54):
somehow, as a ghost, he
got the power to electromagnetic
No, what's it called, what, where they put they, like,
actually do that? No, like fiveshock therapy. Yes, somehow, as
a ghost, he got the power toprovide electroshock therapy
without any tools, which kudosto you, doctor. I'm sure that is
your dream afterlife, based offof what Dean found. So what did
(16:19):
Dean find? I
LA (16:20):
kind of missed it a little
bit. He was in the guy's office
looking for stuff, and thenthere was a little chip in the
wall, and it was like a littlecubby hole hidden. And he found
his, like, patience journals andlike a little briefcase looking
thing old school was reallynice. It was like leather, well,
taken up with me, right. But,yeah, it was, like, his patients
(16:43):
journals, and there was, like, all these drawings in there. And
I remember one drawing was likea head with this giant needle
Berly (16:50):
going in the eye the
bottom me, yeah.
LA (16:53):
So Dean, like, figures out
that, which, I don't know how he
figured out the secret room kindof thing, but he figured out,
obviously, he was doing someweird, like, fucked up
experiments with these peoplethere. And so somehow, I don't
know if that maybe, maybe wemissed it and it was in the
book, but there's some room, secret room, that he was doing
(17:14):
all of this in. He must
Berly (17:15):
have read it, because
there were words. There just
weren't enough time for us to,like read the words true, you
know, especially with thepictures drawing our attention
instead. So I'm guessing heactually read stuff
LA (17:28):
well. And I was like, so I
feel like the guy was trying to
help them. He wasn't just like apsycho, right? Like he was
trying to,
Berly (17:36):
I don't know, in the
afterlife, he looked like a
crazy what was the doctor frompack to the future? Oh yeah,
yeah, the doc. He looked like acrazy doc, and was able to do
electroshock therapy with hisfingers, but he was
LA (17:51):
like, I'm going to make you
better. Yes. So I want to
believe he was trying, and he
Berly (17:56):
just made everybody I
think that Dean even said in the
notes that after treatment, people just got worse. They
would be angrier, and they wouldbe paranoid and all of that.
Yeah?
LA (18:06):
Because the whole point was,
he was trying to figure out a
way to let them release theirrage. Yeah? Because he thought
if they could release it, theywould be better, which, I'm
like, Just get, like, boxing bagor something, like, let me just
beat the shit.
Berly (18:18):
Get a stress ball. Yeah,
squeeze where
LA (18:22):
don't give them a lobotomy,
like my god or electroshock
therapy,
Berly (18:25):
God. So Sam is down here
having this happen, and in the
meantime, Dean has gone through137 he's ran into cat and Gavin.
And they say, Well, you calledSam and told him to go down to
the basement. And Dean says,Well, fuck me. No, I didn't that
wasn't me. Oh, so Dean alreadyknows some fuck he's about to go
(18:47):
find some fucked up shit. Yeah,he gives cat a shotgun. Oh,
wait, no, Sam gave cat ashotgun.
LA (18:54):
No, it was Dean, no, it
Berly (18:55):
was Sam. It was Sam Bo.
That's right before he leaves togo down in the basement. Sam
gave Kat and Gavin a shotgun, and then it shows Sam in the
basement, and he has anothershotgun, and then dean also has
a shotgun.
LA (19:12):
I'm like, how many shotguns
are these guys packing on them?
These windshields,
Berly (19:16):
they are prepared.
LA (19:17):
But like I said, they're not
like the big old shotguns. I
liked them. They're almost likelittle handheld ones. Yeah, I
Unknown (19:22):
don't know they're
cool.
Berly (19:23):
LA and I, neither one of
us, have really wanted guns all
that much, but the show makes meI want a gun with an ivory
handle now. Oh, yeah, I want asawed off shotgun.
LA (19:34):
Hey, it's rock salt. They're
using rocks. I
Berly (19:37):
want a machete. I want i
Hey, Dean goes down and finds
Sam, because Kat and Gavin areokay. She's got a shotgun. She
clearly knows how to use it,because she almost took Dean
off,
LA (19:51):
which they should edit that
a little better, because it made
it look like he she clearly sawhim, and then, like, shot at
him. So it's like.
Berly (20:00):
I don't know. I
Unknown (20:01):
was like, that's a
little delayed.
Berly (20:04):
When Dean gets down to
Sam. Sam is obviously not right,
like, something's off. And he'slike, I'm fine. And then we see
the blood come out, and thenhe's trying to kill Dean,
basically, with the shotgun,yes,
LA (20:19):
one of that being one of the
many, and
Berly (20:21):
saying some things, like,
you're always like, ordering me
around and I'm over it, and he'snot a happy camper that Sam and
so Dean tricks him by giving hima handbag. He
LA (20:34):
shot him first, remember,
with the rock sauce? Oh,
Berly (20:37):
that's right, Sam
actually did shoot Dean first
and Sean through the a wall thatled into the secret room. Oh,
that's right, Dean was trying tofind the secret door, and that's
why Sam suddenly started gettingreally aggravated, because he
was trying to keep Dean fromfinding the secret door. But
then he shot Dean, and Dean fellthrough the secret door. Anyway,
(20:59):
once they're in the secret room,Dean tricks Sam by giving him
handgut and telling him to usethat instead, so that he can
actually finish the job and it'snot loaded. So that distracts
Sam. Dean ends up punching Sam,knocking him out,
LA (21:14):
but which, like, pretty
fucked up, like he actually, he
legitimately was gonna shoot hisbrother. He was possessed that?
Well, no, but I thought it waslike it let the rage out.
Berly (21:24):
He was really angry. I
LA (21:25):
guess he secretly hates
Dean.
Berly (21:28):
But I mean, also, I think
he was trying to protect him
from going in that room becausethe doctor didn't want him to
come in. That's what I thought.
I was under the impression thathe, the doctor, was somehow
influencing Sam to stop Deanfrom coming in. That's what I
thought. Okay, I could betotally wrong. No, no, you're
probably right. Once Dean getsSam knocked out, he actually
(21:49):
finds Dr ellicott's body, and itwas disgusting.
Unknown (21:54):
Oh yeah, it was little
hair. Part of his hair was,
yeah,
Berly (21:58):
the door. It wasn't a
skeleton. It's was still kind of
meaty, yeah, so I just imagineit smelled. Oh yeah. Jensen
Ackles definitely let us knowthat in his performance that it
stank. So he's it stank, itstank. He salt and burns it, but
before he can light it on fire, the ghost of Dr Ellicott comes
(22:19):
out of nowhere and it's like,
LA (22:21):
I'm going to make you
better.
Berly (22:24):
Oh, and he like, grabs
Jensen Apple's face, Dean's
face, I should use the charactergrabs his face and is
electrocuting him as well. And Ithought it was a nice touch that
there was an electricity linebecause Dean's mouth was open
and where his thumbs were onDean's cheeks on either side.
They were connected insideDean's mouth. Yeah, it wasn't
(22:45):
the greatest special effects,no, but it was good. But I still
thought it was a nice touch thatwe could see that it was
electricity at this point.
Because before, whenever yougrabbed Sam, I wasn't positive
what happened whenever hegrabbed him, but now we can see
it's it's electricity. He'sactually doing electroshock on
them. Luckily, Dean is able tograb his lighter and toss it on
(23:06):
the bones anyway, even thoughhe's being attacked, yeah, and
the ghost like turns to concretestone or something. Once it's
getting burned, the soul, thebody's getting burned. The soul
is doing its own thing. It'swhat's trying to attack dean.
And it like, turned to concreteand like, crumble. Crumble.
(23:26):
Yeah, it was crazy. And then Samwas fine after that, whatever
effect had happened from theghost with the electric shock
and all that, Sam was okay. Theyget cat and Gavin out. They are
going to their car, and there'ssome tension. So Sam is like,
I'm fine. It was just the, youknow, whatever the doctor did,
(23:51):
that's it. And you could tellDean is just kind of like, yeah,
okay, sure,yeah. There's a little bit of
tension there well.
LA (24:00):
And Sam was like, Do you
want to talk about it? And
Dean's like, No, not in themood, right? All
Unknown (24:05):
that touchy feely shit.
Berly (24:06):
He was not happy, no. But
I mean, to your point, you
literally almost killed yourbrother, yeah? And Dean read
that stuff so he knows it's justabout releasing existing rage.
So awkward, yeah? Littleawkward. I
LA (24:21):
mean, awkward drive back.
Berly (24:22):
Can't imagine cut two.
They're back in the hotel, andwe get yet another click tease
of a shot, yes, where Dean is inbed. We get to see his arm. It's
a good arm. It was a good arm.
Little, real good arm. But thesheets and the cover are pulled
up, so we got to see hisclavicle. The girl from hookman
(24:43):
would have been like, oh,scandalous cover up. So we did
get to see that, but the coverswere pulled up, so we didn't get
to see a whole lot else. But itwas a real nice arm. And then it
pans over, and Sam's sleeping ina shirt. Again, weirdo. I.
Thanks. But anyway, the phonestarts ringing again, and we're
(25:04):
like, is it a text message? Isit call? We don't know. Who
knows at this point, it's gonnabe a surprise. Sam wakes up and
answers the phone, and finally,it's Daddy. Winchester, daddy.
LA (25:19):
Cut to black, yeah, that's
Berly (25:20):
the end. So let's go.
Let's, let's talk about so therewasn't any Gore at all. I mean,
they didn't, I mean, the bloodcoming out of the nose, was it,
even when the police officerkilled the wife, it just showed
from the outside, yeah, whereyou could hear the gunshot and
see the like, little flash oflight. Yeah, there wasn't any
Gore, but it was definitely kindof a mystery, and some really
(25:44):
cool spooky, spooky stuff. Yeah,no Gore, but there was, we are
going to go into the lore ifyou're ready for it. La,
LA (25:57):
Dr Ellicott, Samson
Ellicott,
Berly (26:01):
is that a name, Samson or
Sanford? No, you're right,
Sanford. Sanford said, and thenthe son was James, right, sure,
it doesn't matter. Yeah. Anyway,
LA (26:12):
so as we know, his Sanford
was doing some unethical things
with the patients there. And wealso know, I mean, clearly
through history, there's beensome other unethical experiments
happening. And on this website,I think it's psychology degree
guide. Online, you can go aheadand get your degree, guys. It
(26:37):
says humanity often pays a highprice for progress and
understanding. At least, thatseems to be the case in many
famous psychologicalexperiments. So I just figured
I'd go over a few, I mean, justso we could kind of know the
Berly (26:50):
disturbing real nature
LA (26:52):
Sanford ellicott's not the
only one, you know. So the first
one is one of Sigmund Freud'spatients, and I think they did a
movie. What was the movie withMichael Fassbender, a dangerous
method? Yes,
Berly (27:05):
I think it's this Vigo
Mortensen and Michael Fassbender
and Keira Knightley. So
LA (27:11):
she was a 27 year old Emmett
Eckstein. Eckstein, and she went
to see Sigmund Freud forstomach, Amethyst and slight
depression for
Berly (27:21):
stomach what? Stomach
ailments? Ailments, okay, which,
I don't know why you
LA (27:25):
would go to a psychologist
for that, but she had slight
depression too, so Gotcha. Butas we know, our minds can cause
things to happen in our bodytoo. And she was being treated
for hysteria and excessivemasturbation. Ooh. I mean, let
her, let her get her rocks off.
Why not?
Berly (27:43):
Who's she hurting? Yeah.
LA (27:45):
But at the time, these were
two habits that were considered
signs of ill mental health. Wait
Berly (27:50):
a minute, at the time,
couldn't you also go to a
doctor, and the doctor wouldbasically finger bang you to
give you an orgasm in order toorder
LA (27:59):
the hysteria? Yeah,
Berly (28:01):
she was just doing it
herself. Yeah, she didn't have
help. She didn't want to have topay those Doctor fees. They're
outlandish.
LA (28:10):
But he did some crazy thing.
He gave her cocaine, a localanesthetic, and then carterized
Her the inside of her nose. Why?
It doesn't say was
Berly (28:24):
it from all the cocaine
use that she messed up her
sinuses and he had to do it?
Maybe, I don't know. And also, with the cocaine, wasn't cocaine
in Coca Cola at the time?
LA (28:33):
Yeah, yeah. But it says,
here it's he treated her for
three years, and we still don'tknow exactly what his intentions
were with her. I think he wasjust fucking with her. Bingo,
Berly (28:44):
there's a lot of
spanking. Oh, yeah, that's
right. I don't remember who doesthe spanking. I think it was
fast bender. I can't rememberwho he played, though.
LA (28:52):
Oh, and she liked it. Oh, my
God, no, I
Berly (28:55):
want to watch I got to
watch it again. Yeah.
LA (28:58):
Another one is Dr Laura
bender. She was at Creedmoor
Hospital in New York in the1960s and she is sweet lady
subjected a lot of children tolecture shock therapy for what
she chose her patients throughlike an interview process, and
(29:18):
she would apply a bit ofpressure to the child's head as
they sat in a large group, andany child with the pressure that
showed, oh, no, I'm sorry, anychild who moved with the
pressure she felt, they wereshowing early signs of
schizophrenia.
Berly (29:33):
Oh, my god, yeah. Like,
what? Why would you not move if
somebody's applying pressure toyour head?
LA (29:40):
But that's she was. She
believed it was a revolutionary
therapy and was going to helpwith social issues, but she
never showed any after she wasreported, she never showed any
sign of sympathy toward thechildren, and she had used it on
probably 100 children, and oneof the youngest was. Three years
(30:00):
old. Oh, my god, yeah, sick.
Berly (30:04):
Your brain isn't even
really developed. Yeah.
LA (30:08):
And then this one, I got
this one confused with Project
MK Ultra. I think it's probablysimilar. This is operation
Midnight Climax, which I likethat.
Berly (30:19):
I I'll take a good
Midnight Climax, anytime. Take
on that operation.
LA (30:25):
In the 50s, the CIA
sponsored Mind Control Research,
and this one was dubbedOperation Midnight Climax. And
they were studying the effectsof LSD on people, but it was non
consenting individuals in SanFrancisco and New York. They
lured people from like as far asprostitutes safe houses, and
they were just slipped thesubstance, and then they were
(30:45):
monitored behind a one wayglass. They did it for over a
decade, and it did give themextensive knowledge on top, but
topics such as mind alteringdrugs, surveillance technology
and sexual blackmail, yikes.
Yeah, but it was shut down in1965 and then the MK Ultra was
in 53 to 73 and that was whereour government, they basically,
(31:08):
kind of did the same thing, butthey were trying to develop
Chemical Materials capable ofemployment and clandestine
operations. They gave peopleunknowing subjects, so like
these, people didn't know whatthey were getting into, and they
were given mind altering drugs, sensory deprivation, verbal and
sexual abuse, extreme isolation, hypnosis and other forms of
(31:32):
torture, damn, yeah. And themost of the subjects they found
at universities and in hospitalsand prisons. And this was real
fucked up, government
Berly (31:43):
sponsored, yikes, um, but
LA (31:45):
it was finally shut down by
Congress. Thanks.
Berly (31:49):
Finally, after a decade,
though, you said right from 53
to 73 Oh, my god, yeah,
LA (31:54):
this one, I don't know. I
don't really. I mean, it's kind
of a monstrous thing to do, butit's called the monster study,
which I thought it was going tobe like somebody trying to do,
like a Frankenstein. Somethingor other, you know, like mind
control. No, not. I just, Idon't know what I thought it,
but I just feel like they shouldhave came up with a different
name for this. Okay, in in 193922 orphans in Iowa became these
(32:19):
tests, test subjects of WendellJohnson and Mary Tudor, they all
had well, the study was aboutstuttering, so some of them had
it. Some of them didn't, andthey were separated into two
groups. Members of one groupreceived positive speech therapy
and were consistently praisedfor their speech and everything.
And then the other groupreceived negative speech
therapy, which included beingbelittled for any speech
(32:42):
imperfection they happen tomake. In the end, the children
in the second group who spokenormally before the experiment
developed the speech problemsand reportedly like retained
like these issues for the restof their lives. Damn, yeah, so
Johnson and Tudor neverpublished these results. Real
nice, real nice. Sounds realofficial, guys, right? And so
(33:04):
they didn't, because theythought that their study was
going to be compared to thehuman experimenters among the
Nazis. Well,
Berly (33:10):
if that's a concern of
yours, that you're going to be
compared to that, maybe youshould take a step back and
think, should you be doing it inthe first place? Yeah, just a
tip.
LA (33:19):
Okay. And then so I think
most people know about the
Stanford Prison Experiment.
Probably, yes. Did
Berly (33:26):
you ever watch the movie?
I
LA (33:27):
saw some of it, but I didn't
finish it. But, man, it looked
fucked up. It was good, yeah, well, I
Berly (33:32):
shouldn't say good in
that sense, but it was accurate.
The
LA (33:35):
actors did. It looked like
the actors did really well, yes,
yes, because this one is it saysit's probably the most famous
human experimentation. It wasconducted in August of 71 at
Stanford Prison, or no, I'msorry, at Stanford, where they
had 24 male students wererandomly assigned roles of
either a guard or a prisoner, and then they set up according
(33:57):
to their role in a specificallydesigned model prison, and it
was in the basement, but itbecame, like, it went super
fast, like, I think it said, Oh,this one doesn't give the exact
days it was on the other link,
Berly (34:12):
I want to say it was like
a week. I want to say it was,
LA (34:15):
it was like, within six
days, yeah, shit went crazy.
They said, I think on the otherarticle I read, it was like, by
day two, shit was already goingdown. But basically, they took
on those roles like crazy, andthey be like, the guards began
to, like, perform like, harshmeasures on the prisoners, like
to various degrees of, I wasgonna say, sexual psychological
(34:37):
torture. Should laugh. It's notfucking funny. But even more
surprising was that theprisoners in the experiment
simply, they just, like, accepted the abuses like they
didn't.
Berly (34:46):
Yeah, your volunteers,
they could have, they could have
decided fuck this yeah and leftat any time, but they didn't.
Yeah, it was fucked up. But
LA (34:55):
the the measures adopted by
the guards became so extreme
that the experiment, like, wasabruptly stopped. Effort, just.
Six Days, yeah, that's
Berly (35:01):
what I was saying. It's
like, I know it like, made it
maybe a week, yeah, yeah, that'scrazy. It happened very quickly.
LA (35:07):
But I mean, also, like, 20
year olds testosterone and shit,
you know? Well, just power trip, yeah, you know, yeah. Okay. And
one more, I'll tell you, is itlittle Alfie? No, but I can talk
about
Berly (35:19):
that one. Okay. No, that
was that one just has always
stuck with me. I learned aboutthat one in college. And I mean,
Little Albert. Albert, is itAlbert? I thought it was a
little Alfie, for some
LA (35:29):
reason, in 1920 John Watson
was the founder of John
Berly (35:34):
Watson, yeah, Dr John
Watson, yeah, from Charlotte,
sure. No. He
LA (35:41):
was the founder of
psychological of the
psychological School ofbehaviorism, believed that, and
he believed that behaviors wereprimarily learned, and he wanted
to test this hypothesis, so heused an orphan that they named
Little Albert, and he exposedhim to a laboratory rat, and it
caused no fear response from theboy for several months. Then he
(36:02):
switched it to when the childwas exposed to the rat, he
struck a steel bar with ahammer, scaring the little boy
and causing the fear response hewas looking for. So by
associating the appearance ofthe rat with a loud noise,
Little Albert eventually becameafraid of the rat, so he was
actually exposed to a variety ofsights and sounds, rabbits,
monkeys, burning newspapermasks. And that's when the
(36:26):
second phase they used the whiterat with the sound. Finally, he
was scared of anything fluffy orwhite or like small animal like
so what Watson's hypothesis thatfear could be conditioned was
proved right, but he fucked thislittle kid up for his life,
right? So, wow, not. I mean, good job, but not good job.
Berly (36:48):
Oh, my God, they never
fixed it. Well,
LA (36:50):
at least it doesn't say so
in this article. And I know
there were a bunch, I mean, Ikind of want to go through and
read all the articles because, Imean, it's interesting, but also
really fucking tragic
Berly (37:01):
it is we learned a lot
about human psychology in the
early days, but yeah, well, likeit says ethic to the non
existent detriment of humans andanimals. That quote yeah at the
beginning, yeah, yeah. So, ooh, that's that. To close it out, we
have a quote from the show thatLA actually said at the same
(37:24):
time as one of the characters.
And it really made me start toquestion if she wrote the show
or not. I did. So Dean looked atSam, who was holding the
shotgun, and he says, What areyou going to do? Sam, guns
filled with rock salt, not goingto kill me. And
LA (37:41):
then he shoots him, and he
flies through the door and on
the ground, he says, Sam says,No, but it'll hurt like hell.
Yeah.
Berly (37:49):
Cheers.
LA (37:50):
I just remember, in the Kill
Bill, the second one you
remember, he busts open the doorof the trailer and shoots her
with the rock salt. Yes, hitsher, and she's like, I was like,
damn, because, and at the time Ididn't I was like, what? I
didn't realize that it was rocksalt. But then I looked it up
later, and I was like, Oh. Like, think about it, like in the
(38:13):
blast in general, but then thesalt in the wound,
Unknown (38:16):
in the wound. Oh,
LA (38:19):
she was a tough bitch,
though.
Berly (38:20):
So is that. Dane
Winchester, it's true. Thank you
for listening to denim wrappednightmares. Follow
LA (38:27):
us on Twitter or Instagram,
leave a review and let us know
how we can get involved in thefandom. This
Berly (38:33):
was fun,
Unknown (38:34):
jerk. It always is,
bitch. You.
