Berly and LA recap and discuss the season one Supernatural episode, Nightmare. Over drinks, they'll discuss lore, gore, and what they adore about the Winchesters and their adventures. Now, let's get tipsy!  CW/TW for violent and lewd commentary; listeners beware! 🔞

Summary: In the "Nightmare" episode of "Supernatural," the Winchesters investigate a series of mysterious deaths linked to a possessed car with a license plate starting with "MF." They discover that the deaths are connected to a family curse involving telekinetic abilities and past abuse. Max, the stepson, is revealed to have killed his abusive stepmother, Alice, after she failed to protect him. The episode explores themes of trauma, abuse, and the supernatural, with Sam and Dean uncovering the truth and ultimately failing to save Max, who turns the gun on himself. The discussion also references real-life telekinetic phenomena, particularly Nina Kulagina, a Russian woman known for her psychic abilities.

Berly (00:01):
Music. Welcome to denim wrapped nightmares, Tipsy
exchange Podcast where weexplore the supernatural series,
episode by episode, over

LA (00:11):
drinks, we'll discuss the lore the gore and what we adore
about the Winchesters and theiradventures.

Berly (00:17):
I'm Burleigh and I'm a new fan of the series.

LA (00:20):
I'm LA, and I'm here along for the ride. Now let's get
tipsy. Hello, LA, hello Burly. Ithought, for the episode we
watched today, I thought we weregoing to get like a double
feature with another possessedcar. At first.

Berly (00:38):
I know you said that whenever things started
happening. You went ghost car.
Yeah,

LA (00:42):
well, I mean,

Berly (00:44):
I understand why you jump to that conclusion, yeah,
especially after last week.
Yeah. So our

LA (00:48):
previous one, before this one, was the racist truck.

Berly (00:53):
It was a racist truck.
Yes,

LA (00:55):
it was a small town that Dean had dated this girl back in
the day, Cassie, she had her herdad recently, recently was
killed in a car accident, and itended up being this whole thing
from back in the 60s. Herparents were an interracial

(01:15):
couple. Wasn't frowned upon.
This one guy in the town didn'tlike it. He basically tried to
kill them. Turned out it wasthis. This truck was tied to
this guy, Cyrus. Who did she? Hewas dating her mother at the
same time that her father wasshe was playing the playing the
field. So the Cyrus guy foundout beat up her dad, but he got,

(01:36):
he got one over on the guy andbeat him to death, and him and
his friends hid the body in theswamp. But then all these years
later, I'm not going to go intoall of that, but basically it
was a racist truck going afterBlack men and Dean and Sam saved
the day by making it go througha church. There you go. That's

(01:58):
it. Oh,

Berly (02:02):
excellent summary. Yeah, thanks. You did really good.

Unknown (02:06):
Yeah, great. Best one yet.

Berly (02:10):
So this week, we watched nightmare, which is the 14th
episode in Season One. And theepisode opens up on this really
old car. Think it was a Dodge,

LA (02:25):
yeah, it was. And it pulls, which I don't mean to interrupt
you, but go ahead, like in thelast episode, when you were
doing the the lore, oh, for theyour ride, zest, car. I was
like, Oh, shit. Is this? Isthis? What this? Is this? The
Golden two bars, two carepisodes in a row anyway, but it
was a Dodge, right? Yeah, okay,so it was

Berly (02:45):
like a limited edition dodge, yeah, 330 I don't
remember the year. This one wasnot gold. No, it was not, it was
not the Golden Eagle, but theyzoom in on the license plate,
and it started with an MF. Andso I was like, motherfucker,
6037

LA (03:01):
and I was really confused.
Yeah, why is she saying this?

Berly (03:04):
I just assumed, like, we needed to remember it. For some
reason, I didn't even pay

LA (03:08):
attention to the MF. I just saw the numbers. So I was like,
What is she saying?

Berly (03:13):
So he pulls into the garage, and the garage door
starts closing, and he's lookingaround very confused, and you
realize he didn't do anything toclose the garage door. And then
the locks snap shut, and hecan't get out, and the engine
starts again, and he's veryfrantic, yeah, the garage fills

(03:34):
up with smoke very quickly, exhaust, yeah, the exhaust from
the car very, quickly, it startscoming through the vent. He's
trying to block the vent withhis jacket or something. None.
He doesn't

LA (03:48):
he finally tries to bust the window, but it's he's too

Berly (03:52):
late. He's too weak. He's already been breathing in the
carbon monoxide, and youbasically watch him die a slow,
not as slow as I think it wouldbe if it was real life, but a
slow death. Cut to Sam, and wefind out he's having another
dream. It's another premonition, and he is freaked out. Fully

(04:17):
clothed, t shirt. I said, Jamapants. I

LA (04:20):
was like, in pants.

Berly (04:22):
I got out of bed and LA was not happy. I mean, Dean was
dressed too. Yeah, they maybethey were somewhere chilly and
they needed the extra fabric. SoSam's freaking out and is like,
Dude, we need to go right now. Ijust had another premonition.
Some shits going down. Let's goso it does this really cool

(04:45):
transition from the lamp to theheadlight of the Impala. I
really liked that transition.
That was pretty cool. Did

LA (04:52):
you say that that was his?
What his dream was, was thatguy? Yes, yeah.

Berly (04:56):
We cut to Yeah, the guy that that was all Sam. Dream the
guy in the Dodge, right? So wecut two. They're in the Impala,
and Sam is talking about thelicense plate. So I was right
that it was important. He said Isaw the license plate. And he
calls Michigan police orsomething and pretends to be a
cop looking into stuff himselfand gives them the license plate

(05:19):
number. He did not say, motherfucker. He said, What was
it? Mary Frank. Mary Frank, andthe cop tells him the name of
the car owner and gives anaddress. So they're going to
Michigan, and Dean says we'reroughly two hours away. So they

(05:39):
go ahead and head to the house, but by the time they get there,
there's cops everywhere. Thewife is outside crying. It's too
late. They see Jim Millergetting put in a body bag. They
didn't make it in time. Like hislike creepy little teen son
standing there, yeah, justmenacingly over in the corner,
which, now that we've watchedthe full episode, we should have

(06:00):
known. Yeah, he stood out.
Should have known from thebeginning, something was up
there. And so the assumption isthat Jim Miller committed
suicide. But of course, becauseof Sam's premonition, the
Winchesters know otherwise. Theyknow something shady is going on
here. I just want to say, I loveSam. I

LA (06:18):
was about to say I'm sweet, Sam. Sweet. Sammy, he

Berly (06:20):
was so upset they didn't make it there in time. But at
the same time, why didn't youtell the cops, hey, there's
something suspicious going on atthat house. Go follow that car,
get to the house, do somethingonce you had the address and the
man's name, why didn't you callback and pretend to be somebody
else? Yeah, if it was really aconcern that this is about to
happen,

LA (06:40):
well maybe he thought, I mean, everything else that he's
like, had the premonitions. Youknow, it's like, the next day,
it took time. Yeah, right. Somaybe I just, like, didn't think
it was happening, right? Thenthat

Berly (06:49):
quickly. That makes sense. That makes sense, you
know what? You're right. La,Sam, I'm sorry. Thanks. Sorry,
Sam, I judged. I judged tooquickly. Anyway. So speaking of
the next day, they decide, okay,we need to go talk to the
family. And Sam is talking toDean and says they literally

(07:10):
just had someone die, which FYIhasn't stopped them in the past,
right? But they're being moreempathetic now, growth. They're
growing up, so Sam says theyaren't going to want to talk to
us. They literally just hadsomeone die. They think this
person committed suicide. Howare we going to get them to talk
to us? And Dean says, Oh, Iknow. And so it shows the

(07:33):
brother in law open the door tothe house the next day, and Sam
and Dean are dressed up likepriests. New fantasy unlocked.

LA (07:43):
I know it's wrong, but I liked it. Yeah, as I mean, it
was all black, just that white.

Berly (07:52):
I asked la I said, what if it was like hot priests from
fleabag and the Winchesterskicked in your door dressed like
that? And said, Neil,

LA (08:01):
I probably pass out. I

Berly (08:03):
dropped to my knees so quick. Oh, for sure. But then I
pointed out I'd need that littlebench thing that you can kneel
on the little bench because Sam,he's put taller than me. I need
to step stool. What am I gonnado? I'm gonna need those. Oh, my
God, that's awful. Isn't thatlike a little stool that you
kneel on? Like to help pad yourknees. It's got, it's like a
short little stool for you tokneel on to pray at church.

(08:25):
Yeah, well, yeah, like, flipsdown forever. I'd need, I'd
need, I'd need Sam to bring one.
That's awful. You're awful.

LA (08:32):
But man, now you just might need one for Dean too. He's
tall, too. Remind me of fleabag.
And I loved that

Berly (08:37):
show. Winchesters were the original hot priest,
apparently, I guess so damn.
Yeah, it was nice. I'd tell themmy sans me too. It was nice. It
was nice little shot, yes, andit was fun because they teased
us with it, because they wereshowing it from the back, and it
just looked like they were intheir normal black suits at
first. So you didn't get thefull picture until that brother

(08:59):
in law opened the door, and yougot to see them from the front

LA (09:04):
well, and he wasn't impressed. He was a fucking
Grump. Yeah, he's

Berly (09:07):
a real dickhead. Yeah.
Roger is his name, and he is thebrother of Jim Miller, the
gentleman who passed away at thebeginning of the episode.
Anyway, they go inside and theytalk to Alice, who is the widow,
and it's, I swear that's one ofthe ants from Sabrina as a
teenage witch. Like,

LA (09:27):
like, I told you, I was like, I looked at her, and I was
like, I think that's her. Butthen it was like, maybe it's
not. But I think by the end, Iwas like, yeah, that's her.

Berly (09:33):
It's her. It's her. The OG series, not the Netflix
rendition, right? Yeah, it wasone of the ants. I don't, know,
I don't know the actress's name.
I didn't look it up. So they'resat on the couch, and they're
talking to her. She sits veryclose to Dean. I would have to
blame her. Don't blame her atall. And while they're sitting
there chatting, she brings upMax, who is her son? She calls

(09:53):
him her son, but we found outlater, it's her stepson. He.
Sitting over in the dining roomarea by himself, corner in the
back, in the corner, again, notacting normal, which we find out
more about why. Later, Sam says,Hey, I'm gonna go talk to max
and see if he needs to, youknow, talk to me about anything,

(10:15):
Dean. You You know, sit here. SoDean talks to the widow for a
little bit and is asking hertheir normal questions. He does
it in a really smooth way. I wastalking about the old house, and
I'm sure you guys have to dealwith old house problems. And
he's like, cold drops, smells, noises, so he's asking the
normal questions, trying tofigure out what's going on here.

(10:37):
And she's just like, No,everything's fucking great. I
love this place. It's the bomb.
Best house ever, best houseever. It's been amazing. And
Dean's like, What the fuck? Sohe goes and hunts around the
house to try and see if he canfind anything, pulls out a fancy
new

LA (10:55):
gadget, a new one. Yeah, he's upgraded from that EMF
little thing. Haven't seen

Berly (10:59):
it before. It doesn't look like a Walkman. It doesn't
look like the red EMF thing. It

LA (11:04):
looks like like they they built it themselves. It does.
It's

Berly (11:07):
very Ghostbusters, yeah, and it's got a little screen on
it, yeah? So where'd the screencome from? What were the green
lasers supposed to do? I don'tknow. It's never explained. He's
touching things, checking to seeif furniture is dusty. It seems
like touching things and doingstuff. So Dean's a hunting All

(11:28):
right. And in the meantime, Samis talking to max. And Max is
like, flaring his nostrils, andhe's what just happened over
there too.

LA (11:38):
I knew you were gonna bring it up, but just the way you
said, I was

Berly (11:40):
like, oh my god, sorry.
Max is distraught, and he'snostril acting, and he's looking
very, very pale, very sickly, and he's just like,

LA (11:51):
pink around the eyes, and then real pale, yeah, and

Berly (11:54):
he's not doing well, no, not doing better after talking
to Sam, he just seemsdistraught. And Sam's just like,
Okay, we're gonna go. So Samgoes and finds dean. And Dean's
like, there ain't shit here, Idon't know what to tell you.
Sam's like, well, I don't know,there ain't shit here. I don't
know what to tell you. So theygo and do some research. Nothing

(12:15):
bad has happened at the house.
Nothing bad has happened on theland. They can't figure out,
what the fuck is going on? Isthere a poltergeist? Is there a
ghost? What's happening? Theydon't know, so they just figure,
okay, there must be somethinggoing on with the family, like
the people in the family must becursed somehow. And Sam makes
some joke about how theirfamily's cursed too. And Dean's

(12:36):
like, No, we're not fuck youanyway, later on, they're at the
hotel, and they're talking aboutthis shit, trying to figure it
out. And Sam is obviouslygetting a really bad migraine.
He keeps pinching the bridge ofhis nose, and he's squinting his
eyes, and it came on fast. Yeah,I remember you going, what the
fuck is going on here? He wasnot enjoying for a second. I was

(12:57):
like, is he gonna have aseizure? Yes, it was very
dramatic, yeah. And he gets avision. So Sam is now having
visions when he's awake, whichnot fun. Don't let that boy
drive. And it looked painful.
Yeah, he did not look like hewas enjoying himself. And he has
a vision of Roger Miller, so theasshole brother that answered

(13:20):
the door, yeah, yeah, the grump, and he's at his apartment, and
he's putting away groceries, andthe window in his kitchen opens,
and he looks at it and sees itopening by itself. Now, if my
window fell shut by itself, Iwouldn't think much of it. It's
a different story. Yeah, right.
But he sees it open, going

LA (13:41):
up, up, yeah, on its own.
Doesn't even flinch, yeah. It'sjust, I'd be fucking out of
there. I'd

Berly (13:48):
beat the fuck out of there. So he just goes over and
shuts the window and locks it,locks it, and then it unlocks by
itself and opens again. Does heget the fuck out of there at
that point. No, no, sure, doesn't he decides to go
investigate the window further,and

LA (14:06):
he's got to stick his head out the window. Yeah, to do so

Berly (14:09):
gotta, like, lay down under the window like a fucking
guillotine. Not

LA (14:13):
even, like, leaning out and looking down. He literally turns
upside down and is looking atthe fucking window. Yeah, like
normal,

Berly (14:23):
who does that? I would have been the fuck out of there.
So it's like a Darwin Awardskind of thing. Oh yeah, he's not
saying he deserved it, but just, you don't know what the Darwin
Awards are. Google them. Come onanyway, as all of us would have
been expecting. At this point, the window falls shut very
quickly, and we finally get oursecond blood splooge of the

(14:47):
series. It was pretty decentone. It was really messy,

LA (14:50):
and that head, oh, and I love this was terrible, but he
had like a little box below hiswindow that I guess had like
flowers or something in it. Sothat's where his head. Sitting
lovely.

Berly (15:02):
He gets decapitated, yeah? Straight up, guillotines
his ass. But again, he like, laid there, basically setting it
up, asking for it, yeah. Now Samis like, Oh, fuck. We gotta go.
We gotta go help Roger. So theyhaul ass to Roger's apartment,
which, who knows how they foundout where he lived right, but
they did. And they pull upalongside him, and he's walking

(15:25):
on the sidewalk with hisgroceries, going home. And
they're like, hey, motherfucker,we need to talk to you. And he's
like, fuck off. Leave me alone.
I'm grumpy. I'm grumpy. Man.
He's

LA (15:32):
not into religion, and he thinks, he still thinks they're
the priests. Yeah, he's like, these fucking priests just
fallen banned

Berly (15:39):
on me everywhere. Being the grump that he is he's like.
So he goes inside. So Sam andDean find a parking spot very
quickly and get out and go downlike the side path. And they
find this iron gate. Dean kicksit open, and they run through.
And they go running up like thefire escape, I think it was, and
they see the blood splooge, toolate again,

LA (16:00):
poor Sam. Sam

Berly (16:01):
was very upset. He was doing some nostril stuff this
episode as well, which we'llfind out. Hey,

LA (16:08):
they're connected. I

Berly (16:09):
know I was saying we'll find out they're connected. So
maybe it's one of the symptomsof their their little connection
thing is the nostril thing. Deantells Sam to wipe off all their
fingerprints, and then proceedsto break and enter into the
apartment. I'm gonna

LA (16:24):
take a look around, smart, good thinking idiot.

Berly (16:28):
They don't find anything in the apartment, nothing to
make them think, ghost, ghoul, whatever. So they are stumped.
And they are just like, yeah, itjust must be this family curse.
Oh, this is when they decide itmust be the family that's
cursed. Yeah? Sam is like, well,I relate because I'm a
melodramatic. Thought you wereout of order. Yeah, I was, I
was, I was, you're right. Okay,so, yeah, melodramatic. Sam

(16:50):
being like, oh, like, I relate.
I get it, because we're cursedtoo. And Dean's like, no, quit
being dramatic. Don't

LA (16:57):
you say that about our family, right? He is loyal to
the end with that family andtheir dad, Dane, good old Danes.
He really is just that project, prodigal son.

Berly (17:08):
He cheat on a girl in no time, though, what do you mean?
I don't see him being a loyalboyfriend, is my point. Oh,
well. I mean, he'd be loyal tome, but obviously, you know,
anyway, they visit Max next andyet again, he doesn't give them
a lot of helpful information, yeah, but he does happen to

(17:30):
mention where the family used tolive. So Sam and Dean decide to
go there, and they end uptalking to a next door neighbor,
and the neighbor reveals thatMax used to get beat, and that
the dad would leave bruises onhim, broke his arm at least
twice. He mentions that thebrother or the uncle, the

(17:51):
brother in law, was just aslikely to beat on max if he was
there, and that the stepmother,Alice, was the worst, because
she would literally just standthere and do nothing. Yeah, she
would pretend like nothing washappening. And that's where we
find out she's stepmom, not hisactual mom, correct? And so
Dean, I don't like, how correctthing good for you. So after

(18:18):
that, though, Sam and Dean arekind of like, what stepmother,
what do you mean? Yeah, are youairing out your vagina?

LA (18:26):
My legs, not my vagina?
Well, from my

Berly (18:29):
angle, it just looks like it's my leggies. So they end up
asking him to elaborate. Wethought that Alice was Max's
mom. And he says, No, I thinkthe mom died in a car crash or
something. I don't know exactlywhat happened. It was kind of
mysterious, but Max's mom diedas they're standing there
talking to the neighbor, Samstarts pinching the bridge of

(18:52):
his nose again and squinting hiseyes. He's getting that pain.
The neighbor's like, are youokay? What is going on? And Dean
says, we're fine. And he justhelps his brother, helps him to
the car, taking care of baby, little baby, Sam, like he does.
And Sam has another vision. Thistime it's max and Alice, and he

(19:13):
sees Max confronting Alice abouthow she didn't help him, that
she didn't do anything to tryand stop the abuse, and he makes
a knife levitate. So it's like,oh shit. Max is telekinetic. The
knife gets really close toAlice's eye, and she has this

(19:34):
perfect tear fall out of hereye, like that shot was pretty
good, and she's begging forforgiveness and saying, I didn't
do anything. And Max is justlike, that's the point, you
didn't fucking do anything, andjust knife through the eye kills
her, goes through the back ofthe skull into the wall. Boom.

(19:55):
So Sam says, fuck, man, we gottaget over, get back to the house.
Yes, because Max is about tokill Alice, and luckily, they
get there in time. They getthere right when Max is about to
confront Alice, and things werejust starting to get a little
heated, they knock on the door.
Actually, I think they kick inthe door and came in, right? I
think they did because, becauseAlice went father and I was

(20:18):
thinking, Okay, if that were tohappen today, with today's
ginseng Ackles and JaredPadalecki, you would go, daddy,

LA (20:30):
oh my god.

Berly (20:35):
And then drop to your knees. So they're just like,
hey, hey, oh, hi, we're herechecking on you. Hey, Max, why
don't you come outside? Comeoutside. With us. Come outside.
Let's go chat. And Max, atfirst, is like, okay, I guess.
And as they're going outside,Dean goes to open the door, and

(20:55):
he looks over and gives a sexylittle smirk. It was a cue, very
sexy little smirk. But Max doesnot fall for the smirk he sees
and a mirrors reflection thatDean has a guns, pretty gun on
him. Yeah, he's got more goingon in his pants than Max would
like, yeah, sure, that gun'sright there. Pretty, pretty

(21:19):
ivory handle and all that. AndMax says, fuck you. He slams the
door, he slams all the shutters.
He's like, no one's goinganywhere. We're not going
anywhere. Y'all obviously knowsomething's up. They're not
priests. They're lying to us.
What the fuck is going on?

LA (21:35):
Lots of shutter action in the last two episodes.

Berly (21:39):
I want shutters like that, though I want them so bad
boy, I like them. I don't likemini blinds. They're hard to
clean. Yeah, they are. And evenlike the thicker blinds that are
wood or whatever, they getwarped and stuff, they're just
hard to clean. I just feel likeshutters are easier. Yeah, my
dad has them at his house. SoSam is cool, calm and collected,

(22:03):
which says a lot for Sam,because Jared Padalecki is
normally kind of sweaty and hot.
I mean, he's always hot, but youknow what I mean? Cool, calm and
collected, totally handling thesituation, saying, let's talk
like, just you and me, it'll befine. And Sam says it'll just be
the two of us. And Dean's like,No, I don't fucking think so,
not having it. And Sam's justvery calm Stern is like, yes,

(22:27):
you will. Yes, you will. So Deanhelps Alice up, they go
upstairs, and Sam and Max gohang out in the living room to
have a little discussion.
Throughout this discussion,Sam's being really sympathetic.
Max, sympathetic. Sympathetic.
Max is telling Sam more aboutthe abuse and how it's been

(22:48):
ongoing. They've just gottensmarter about it, and so now
it's kind of making sense. Thisis a traumatized little kid
that's not been able to get awayfrom abuse, and he's a victim,
yeah? And, oh, my God, in thatbruise. Oh, it was terrible.
He's

LA (23:06):
like, try or what does he say? Like, no, not just when I
was little, try next week orlast week, right? Yeah.

Berly (23:13):
So it's been happening recently, and he's just
traumatized. As they keeptalking, Sam is asking questions
about when it started and whathappened to his mom, and all of
these questions, and it'srevealed that Max's mom died in

(23:34):
the exact same way as Sam andDean's mom pinned to the ceiling
in a fiery blaze in his nurseryover the crib, and Max's dad
actually blamed max for whathappened to the mom, and that
was what he used as an excusefor the abuse. So Jim Miller is

(23:54):
terrible person. Yeah, Sam ispretty shocked to hear this,
because it's not really normal.
And when he's asking morequestions, he figures out he and
Max their abilities started tokick in at roughly the same
time. Obviously, Max's abilitiesare stronger and more violent.
Yes, I said more advanced. Isaid violent. But either way

(24:17):
that they're figuring outthere's this connection between
the two of them. I will

LA (24:23):
say, the guy that's playing the kid that's playing Max, did
a good job. He did great, like, especially in that scene with
Sam, and then the next scene, like, really well done.

Berly (24:34):
He did really well with going from menacing and being
like, What's wrong with him tome feeling sympathy and being
empathetic and, oh, my god, I'mso sorry. Yeah, even he did
well. He did well. He

LA (24:48):
did really good.

Berly (24:49):
So Sam is trying to convince max to let his
stepmother, Alice go. He's like,I know she didn't do anything. I
know she didn't help you, butshe also didn't abuse you.
You've got to stop killingpeople and trying to do that.
And Max is just like, fuck. No,no. He's too angry, and he can't
let it go. Bless him, bless him.
He throws Sam telekineticallyinto a closet and slams the door

(25:14):
and slides this big armoiredresser thing in front of the
doors, and at that time, Sam hasanother vision of Max going
upstairs, getting Dean's gun, threatening to shoot Alice Dean,
being the hero that he isgetting in the way, and saying,
if you're gonna hurt her, you'regonna have to go through me, and

(25:35):
Max just being like, all right, bang and shooting and killing
Dean right in the head, rightthrough his beautiful fucking
face. We got another little bitof a blood splooge, but it's not
the official kind of bloodsplooge that I'm looking for, so
we're not going to count it.
We're just going to say thatit's one blood splooge this
episode. It was a pretty gorylittle shot, though. And then we

(25:57):
cut back to Sam in the closet, and he's just like, No. And the
dresser moves by itself. So Samis having premonitions and is
apparently telekinetic as well.
Now Sam runs upstairs, and hebursts in the door just in time
to stop Max from killing Dean, and he's his face. It was so

(26:17):
open and vulnerable. And Sam, helooked so cute. He's like, Max,
this isn't gonna solve theproblem. Please. Let me help
you, Max, even

LA (26:27):
like this, like was shaking on max, yeah, just

Berly (26:30):
traumatized. I mean, just oh, I mean, you literally go
from the beginning of theepisode being like, Who's this
fucking freak to the end of theepisode just wanting to hug him,
yeah? And he looks at Sam, andhe just says, You're right, this
isn't going to fix anything, andhe turns the gun on himself.

Unknown (26:47):
It was awful. It was

Berly (26:49):
very sad ending for a victim of abuse. It was just, it
was

LA (26:55):
it was hard, yeah, and Sam, I mean, feels like you failed
another time. Yeah. Tried sohard.

Berly (27:01):
Well, then he saw himself in Max, yeah, too. So it shows
later on that the police aretalking to Alice, and she is
covering for the Winchesters.
She's saying, I don't know wherethe gun came from, and just
definitely covering for them.
And yet again, we have a bandagewith a lot of blood. Yeah, I

LA (27:20):
just, I don't we get it, you know, they're glad the bandage
is there. We don't need theblood on

Berly (27:26):
it. They're injured.
Yeah, we understand the bandagedid a good enough job conveying
that we don't need the massiveamount of fake blood on the
outside of the bandage. It's abit much. It's a little much.
She's like, I have no one. Okay.
I

LA (27:41):
mean, it doesn't sound like it was a great life,

Berly (27:43):
right? Yeah, we see Sam and Dean, and they are talking,
and Sam can't help but wonder ifwhatever killed their mother was
after him and Max, you know, maybe they were trying to get to
us because we have abilities.
And Dean just kind of poo poosit away like, no, no, no, no,
no, no, it's fine. We're gonnaget the monster and it'll be

(28:04):
fine. And Sam kind of is like,by the way, I moved a dresser,
and Dean goes, Oh, that's great, that you're getting some upper
body strength going good foryou. And Sam says, No, I moved
it. How might max could movethings? I moved it with my mind.

(28:26):
And Dean tries to give him aspoon to bend his spoon, make
little matrix. Shout out there.
And he is just assuring Sam thathe's not going to let anything
bad happen, being that bigprotective brother, and they
leave their very spacious, largemotel room that had trees in it

(28:47):
somehow, and head out.

LA (28:51):
Sorry, I don't know where these uh motels are, but they're
very spacious rooms, and they're

Berly (28:56):
always the decoration.
The decor is pretty unique. Inmy opinion, most of the times I
go to the bedding is some 80s,fantastic pastel, you know, kind
of color, and there's somegeneric watercolor painting on
the wall. You know, everythinglooks like it's from the 80s or

(29:17):
90s. When I think of a hotel, amotel room, I haven't stayed in
a motel in a while, maybe theyare more

LA (29:26):
right, fancy, yeah. Who knows when I last time I was in
one? Can't remember hotel, hotel, holiday and,

Berly (29:37):
oh, and also, when Sam got shoved in the closet, I
could not which he's a terribleperson, but I could not help but
thinking like Sammy in thecloset, oh yeah, he said the
closet and the dresser in frontof the closet. Oh my god, I'm
not even gonna say the artist'sname. You either know what I'm
talking about or you don't. Sothat was nightmare. Very nice.

LA (30:01):
Yes. Well, on our other podcast, we already covered this
little lady, but I'm gonna talkabout another person that had
the abilities that Max, well, telekinesis. Anyway, a real
person. Yeah, so her name wasNina kulagina. Kulagina.

(30:23):
Kulagina

Berly (30:24):
Sounds good to me. Yeah, sure.

LA (30:28):
She was born in 1926 Russia.
She when she was 14, she joinedthe Red Army and she entered its
tank regiment during World WarTwo. By the time, like she kind
of got to be known for herabilities, she was a housewife.
So she she had been in the warin the Red Army, and now she's a

(30:49):
housewife. Then during duringthe Cold War, there were some
silent black and white filmsthat were produced where it
showed her to be it appearedthat she was moving objects on
this table that was in front ofher, without touching anything
her, just doing it with hermind. It says that these films
were like allegedly made undercontrolled conditions for Soviet

(31:10):
authorities and causedexcitement for many psychic
researchers around the world, some believed that they were
representing like clear evidencethat there is existence of
psychic phenomenon. But ofcourse, they're, they're the
haters too, you know, fake.
There was one test they did withher from, I think it's Larry,

(31:34):
kettle camp, kettle camp, kettlecamp. And there was a film of
her separating broken eggs inwater. So she was like
separating the whites, thewhite, the yolk, from the
whites. Okay, with her mind.
During during this there werelike physical changes that
happened too, like heartbeat, brain waves, electromagnetic

(31:54):
field. They to ensure that, likethe external, dramatic. You want

Berly (32:02):
to try that again? Yeah, yeah, thanks

LA (32:06):
to ensure that the external Electromatic

Berly (32:10):
Third time's a charm, come on. You got it to

LA (32:12):
ensure that the external electromagnetic impulses did not
interfere. She was placed insidea metal cage, and while she was
supposedly demonstrating anability to remove a marked a
marked matchstick from a wholepile of matchsticks under a
glass dome, damn, yeah, that'sexcessive, right? She claimed

(32:32):
that she first noticed that shehad this ability when things
just kind of spontaneously wouldmove around her when she was
angry, and she thinks she feltthat she inherited it from her
mother. Doesn't say why, but shegot it from her mama, yeah, and
she said, like, in order to forit to for her to be able to do
these things, she kind ofrequired a period of meditation,

(32:54):
first, where she had to, like, clear her mind and thoughts,
which makes sense. And then onceshe was focused, she reported
that, like when she was doingit, she had a sharp pain in her
spine, and like, her eyesightwould get blurry. And she also
that's

Berly (33:11):
what was happening when Sam would have his visions and
show his eyesight get blurry, and then I'd like, go white,
that's right.

LA (33:19):
And storms apparently interfered with her ability to
like, they would be, like, thrown off when storms happened,
which makes sense, if it's likeelectromagnetic, yeah, okay.
Another experiment she did atlinen grad, linen grad
laboratory in the 70s was whereshe was, uh, moving in that in

(33:39):
at inanimate, inanimate, and isthat it? Yeah, inanimate,
inanimate, like a non animatedobject, yeah, inanimate objects.
Scientists were curious to seeif she had abilities to like,
where she could extend to like, cells, tissues, organs. Ooh, I

(34:02):
was like, like, make

Berly (34:03):
your butthole clinch.
Like, well, that was, I

LA (34:05):
was like, what would be the purpose of that? I don't, I
could think of some purposes.
Anyway, one of the scientiststhat was present, he saw her
attempt to use her energy tothis was another test to stop
the beating heart of a frogfloating in this solution. Why
they gotta keep messing withfrogs? Leave them alone. They're
so cute. He said that shefocused so intently on the

(34:30):
heart, and apparently it made itbeat faster than slower, and
using extreme intent of herthought she really did stop it.

Berly (34:42):
Ooh, so did she kill the frog? Doesn't

LA (34:45):
say, I hope not. Hope she got it beaten again anyway. And
like I said, there are somepeople who like straight up,
didn't believe her. Said it wasall a hoax or whatever. But I
like this one guy. He's ascience. Writer Martin Gardner
said he described her as being apretty plump, dark eyed, little
charlatan. Oh,

Berly (35:07):
he did

LA (35:08):
not like her, but yeah, so she so for, I think she was in,
like, academic, scientificresearch with the USSR for like,
the last 20 years of her life, doing that kind of stuff. That's
crazy, yeah. And she died inapril of 1990 at 63 so

Berly (35:30):
nice. So that's the lore.
That's the real world, reallife, from what we think was
probably inspired, which weactually la already brought this
up. We actually did somethinglike this on our other podcast.
The tipsy exchange for StrangerThings inspired by is the name
of the episodes, and it's in oursecond season. So if you want to
learn more about Nina kulaginaand the MK Ultra project, isn't

(35:52):
that what it was called La thatwas inspired by Nina kulagina,
go check out those episodes, because there's actually some
pretty fucked up things thathappened, interesting, yes, to
say the least. So close out thisepisode. I've got a quote from
Mr. Dean Winchester, when he wastalking to Sam, trying to tell

(36:15):
him, you know, our family's notcursed. So he said, our family's
not cursed. We just have ourdark spots. Yeah,

LA (36:26):
you know, cheers, cheers.

Berly (36:30):
