Berly (00:01):
Music. Welcome to denim wrapped nightmares, Tipsy
exchange Podcast where weexplore the supernatural series,
episode by episode, over

LA (00:11):
drinks, we'll discuss the lore the gore and what we adore
about the Winchesters and theiradventures.

Berly (00:17):
I'm Burleigh and I'm a new fan of the series.

LA (00:20):
I'm LA, and I'm here along for the ride. Now let's get
tipsy.

Berly (00:28):
Hello, LA,

LA (00:29):
hello, burly

Berly (00:30):
as you know, I discovered something new this year. Oh, I
know. I discovered a series thatactually, I guess I shouldn't
say I discovered it. I finallyfollowed the recommendation of
several friends and watched aseries called supernatural,

LA (00:49):
who told you to watch

Berly (00:51):
honestly, I've had multiple friends over the years
tell me I should watch it. Oh,wow, that I would really like
it. Okay, yeah, the most recentwas actually a previous manager
of mine who really some she wastalking about the show, and I
was just like, I don't know.
I've never seen it. And she waslike, You, of all people have
never watched supernatural. Iwas just like, No, I haven't.

(01:13):
And so earlier this year, Idecided to watch it, and it has
now become the bulk of mypersonality. And you have
graciously agreed to do arewatch with me, because when I
watched it the first time, I'llbe honest, I wasn't really
paying attention. So now we'regoing to go back to the

(01:36):
beginning and see what thissupernatural series is all
about.

LA (01:41):
Well I did. I did watch, like, when, I think, when it was
first came out and was, like, really popular. I don't know
that I watched it from thebeginning, but I know I watched
some at some point, right? But Inever kept it. And then as,
like, after I realized how manyseasons were still going on, I
was like, Oh, wow, wow.

Berly (02:00):
I think that's part of why I never started it, is
because back then, you had toDVR something, or buy the DVD or
whatever if you wanted to catchup. And I just was, you know,
it's like two seasons inalready. Oh, it's like five
seasons in already. Oh, it'slike 10 seasons in already. And
so crazy. I didn't want to jumpinto it in the middle. A lot of

(02:23):
work. It's a lot of work, yeah, which is what I ended up doing
anyways. I put it on on Netflix.
I wasn't paying attention until,honestly, I think I was halfway
through the series when Ifinally started paying attention
because a certain charactercaught my eye, which we'll talk
about when we get there in theshow. And then I started paying
attention, and would be like, what's that about? And I don't

(02:43):
know. And so I finally was like,Okay, I'm just need to restart
it, yeah? So before we do that, let's talk a little bit about
what the fuck is supernatural.
So supernatural is an Americandark fantasy drama created by
Eric Kripke, who spent over adecade nurturing the idea of

(03:05):
this show before it was pickedup by the WB

LA (03:10):
decade. Wow, yeah. I like his last name. I do too. Kripke,

Berly (03:15):
like that would be like my gang name.

LA (03:18):
I wonder. I wonder if, um,

Berly (03:22):
well, no, never mind.
That's an amazing wonderment.
Well, no, I

LA (03:26):
just wonder if he expected it to go on that long, like, if
that like, over that 10 yearperiod where all of these ideas
just like he was. That's whythere were so many, because he
had so many ideas over this timespan.

Berly (03:37):
I think when I was researching this that I saw that
Kripke originally planned for itto be five seasons. Okay, it
should have been, and then youdon't know, we haven't watched
it yet. That's just a long time.
It's a long time, yeah, okay, but it has an average of 93% on
the tomato meter. That isshocking, and an average

(03:58):
audience score of 75% on RottenTomatoes. Wow. Okay, so people
disagree with you.

LA (04:06):
I guess, yeah, I guess I, I missed something.

Berly (04:09):
I did. Think it was cute.
Inspiration for the series camefrom kripke's favorite kids
book, the house with a clock inits walls, and he was actually
involved in the film adaptationwith Kate Blanchett and Jack
Black. Oh, I haven't seen that.
I haven't either, Not Meneither, so I have no further
comment on that. But that's oneof the things that inspired it.

(04:30):
Another thing that kind ofinspired the series was the
1970s sci fi TV series, colcheck, The Night Stalker,
Kojak, Kolchak, K, O, L, C, H,A, K, the Night Stalker, which
he was kind of like, X Filesinvestigator kind of thing, I

(04:50):
think, okay, I didn't look toomuch into it. It was on for
like, one year, but pictureslike show him holding a crucifix
with like the shadow on thebackground. Owned and daimons
and all that kind of stuff. Andanother thing that helped
inspired supernatural is ourbeloved story about stories Mr.

(05:12):
Neil Gaiman's a Sandman. Oh,okay, so a lot of inspiration
from other things kind of wentinto supernatural. It all ended.
What do you mean? The seriesfinale finally

LA (05:26):
ended. The

Berly (05:26):
series finale ended on November 19, 2020, oh, my

LA (05:30):
God, oh, good lord,

Berly (05:34):
long run.

LA (05:35):
I mean, those guys had solid jobs, right? Three years, had a

Berly (05:38):
lot of solid things, from what I can see. Okay, so when
did it begin? So it started inseptember 2005 and supernatural
starred the famous duo JensenAckles and Jared Padalecki.
According to Screen Rant, supernatural is immediately

(06:00):
compelling because of thisleading duo and their topsy
turvy, strangely relatable,predictably unpredictable
relationship,

LA (06:11):
I think their looks might have something to

Berly (06:13):
do, right? Like we're not going to talk about that Screen
Rant. Come on. Now, the pairingwas supernatural's engine, but
what kept that engine running ishow Sam and Dean evolve as
naturally as genuine brotherswould. You can feel Ackles and
Padalecki constantly discoveringtheir characters, finding new

(06:34):
qualities and quirks that ensureSam and Dean's dynamic remains
effortlessly entertaining withjust the right amount of quote,
unquote real. Okay, so over thecourse of 15 years, supernatural
became a household name, winning38 awards and receiving 128

(06:58):
nominations.

LA (07:00):
What awards?

Berly (07:02):
I didn't Google that. Oh, okay, besides being the longest
running fantasy show to haveever been broadcast in the US
supernatural is also consideredone of the greatest fantasy
Whoop, one of the greatestfantasy shows of all time. Okay,
I could give it up. So we havewatched the pilot for

(07:26):
supernatural. We sure have what, what are your just overall
thoughts, seeing, seeing Sam andDean for the first time in
nearly 20 years, because youhaven't watched it since it

LA (07:39):
was on the air. Number one, they look very young. They do. I
mean, it's still good. Oh,they're adorable, obviously,
yeah, which also is in seeingthem on the first episode aged
well, yeah, very well, yeah, like, I would say more
attractive now for sure. Yeah,same.

Berly (07:54):
It's fun seeing just the old nostalgic stuff, yeah, like,
the old cell phones, right,

LA (08:02):
and everything. And I distinctly remembered Dean's
car. Well, how can you forget?
Yeah, that was one of the thingsthat I remembered from it. And I
vaguely remembered the wholestoryline with their mom and dad
and whatnot. Yeah, I didn't, Iwas, I don't remember it
accurately. I just, you know, vaguely. Was like, Oh yeah,
something happened to their mom.
Well,

Berly (08:23):
for our listeners who may not remember the episode
accurately, let's head into ourfirst segment of the episode,
which is the recap. The recap.
Well, it's recap,

LA (08:34):
okay. Well, it's so we start out and it says 22 years ago in
Lawrence, Kansas, which welooked it up. It's a real place,
so,

Berly (08:42):
and if it's 22 years ago, and the show started in 2005
let's do math. What year wouldthat make it go for it?

Unknown (08:49):
You do that?

Berly (08:51):
Let me just pull this little handy, handy calculator
out right here, right?

LA (08:57):
It's the show was on for 15 years, so 1983

Berly (09:00):
Oh, okay, oh, if it's 22 years ago in Lawrence Kansas,
it's 1983 Oh, okay, you weren'tborn yet. I was not, I was you
were that was fucking adorable.
Oh, I bet I wasn't traumatizedyet. All right, so we're in
Lawrence Kansas, 1983

LA (09:21):
Oh, my God. It literally says the date right in front of
me. After that line, you made me

Berly (09:26):
get out a calculator. LA, I

LA (09:28):
was just testing you. Okay.
Okay, so we're there. So sorry.
So it's November 2, 1983 andDean is four years old, and he's
going in to say goodnight to hislittle baby brother, Sam
Winchester. Did I sayWinchester? Winchester family?
Yes, the mother, MaryWinchester, goes to bed, she's

(09:49):
sleeping, wakes up, hears Samcrying. Husband's not in the
bed, so she goes in and seesit's dark. So she sees somebody
standing at the at the crib, andshe assumes it's the day. Dad,
and he just says, ew. And shejust is like, okay, it's you and
and then she sees a lightflicker, walks downstairs and
realizes her lazy husband'sfalling asleep on the couch

(10:11):
watching something. I'm

Berly (10:13):
sorry. I'm just gonna say, I shouldn't say. I would
maybe, well, I mean, but it'sJeffrey Dean Morgan, true,
playing the dad. I'd forgivehim. Yeah, it's okay. Yeah,

LA (10:22):
it's okay. Do what you want, sweetie. It's

Berly (10:24):
all right.

LA (10:26):
So obviously she flips out, runs upstairs, screams bloody
murder, right? So, and thenJohn,

Berly (10:34):
who is it? Like, you see the husband, like, is in my
kid's room now, yeah, I

LA (10:38):
would have been terrified, absolutely. So she runs in
there, screams, and then we seeJohn running up there. He bursts
in the room, and then he's justlike, oh, Sam's safe. And just
stares at Sam, which, when I waswatching it, I was like, Uh,

Berly (10:54):
did you not remember that you're

LA (10:55):
like, your wife? Yeah. Like, good, good thing. Sam's okay,
but where the hell's your wife?
Why did she scream? Like, easyto remember really well, calm
and relaxed after that scene, just like standing over the
crib, smiling,

Berly (11:08):
Oh little Sammy, yeah, I

LA (11:11):
was like, Yeah, okay, we're just cool. Now, everything's
fine. But anyway, as he'slooking at Sam blood starts to
drip on Next to the baby, helooks up and his wife has like a
slash on her stomach, pinned tothe ceiling and just flames.
Dead eyes,

Berly (11:28):
yeah, dead wide, dead eyes, yeah, yeah. And

LA (11:32):
so her body bursts into flames. He grabs Sam and Dean.
He has Dean take Sam outside asfast as he can. He tries to go
back to save his wife too late,so he has to flee the house, and
the house like the whole roomexplodes like a few seconds
later,

Berly (11:48):
right? And let's just say that little baby, Dean, little
four year old, five year old,Dean, does not know how to carry
a baby, right? Yeah, just likeholding it like a football,
running down the stairs, runningoutside, not

LA (12:03):
supporting that. I'm

Berly (12:05):
like, is Baby Sam old enough to support his head?
Because, my goodness, I

LA (12:10):
mean, it's a good thing. Sam survived. Yes, he's rocking a
little on the flames. Goodness.
Oh, my God. Okay, so then weflash forward to present day. It
says, And we're at StanfordUniversity, Sam smarty pants.
Sam Smarty Smarty sassy pants isat his dorm with his girlfriend,
and he hears somebody break in,and then he fights really well,

(12:31):
this shadowy intruder. Therewere a lot of kicks, yeah, I was
a lot of kicks. I was like,Okay, this would be like, he
knows what he's doing, yeah? Soit was this other guy too,
though, right? So then herealizes it's Dean, and Dean's
now 26 years old, his olderbrother and they haven't seen
each other in two years. Yeah?
They said two years or anything.
Yeah. And Dean explains Sam, heneeds Sam's help finding their

(12:54):
dad because he went missingafter going on a hunting trip.
Wink, dodge, nudge. Yeah, andsome, Sam's reluctant to go, but
he does end up agreeing to gowith him and find their dad. So
they're as they're leaving, they're chit chatting, and my
favorite part is as Dean's like, still trying to convince Sam to
go and everything. Yeah, he's,he's, Sam's like, I mean, I told

(13:16):
dad I was scared of something inmy closet when I was nine years
old, and he gave me at 45already

Berly (13:24):
said that you, oh, my God, died laughing. You thought
it was wonderful. It's justlike,

LA (13:29):
I mean, I'm surprised. It's just in Kansas and not Texas. I
just thought it was hilarious.
Fun

Berly (13:36):
fact, Jared and Jensen are both Texas guys. They're
from Texas. Boys.

LA (13:42):
So Sam asks where, what their dad was hunting. And Dean
says he was searching for thesemen who are vanishing from their
cars on Centennial Highway,which, I think that's
California, right in California,I

Berly (13:55):
don't know. Let me google it. I guess it doesn't matter.
Okay, this says New Zealand, butthat can't be, right? Colorado.
Oh, okay.

LA (14:04):
Well, that makes sense, because the other place that dad
ends up is in Colorado. Yeah, okay, so hazard the as her walk
into Dean's car, Sam asks whattheir dad was hunting. And Dean
explains that in Colorado, onthis centennial highway, men are
vanishing from their cars, which, I guess I should
backtrack and say initially whatthey're all like. I guess they

(14:27):
were obviously raised huntingthese they were raised hunting
whatever you get

Berly (14:32):
that vibe whenever they're like, reconnecting and
talking, yeah, that they grew upin this world, right?

LA (14:38):
Just so certain things are mentioning and everything, yeah?
Because I think Sam even sayslike he was, he was done with
that hunting, that life orwhatever, but they essentially
have been hunting what ever itwas that killed the mother,
right?

Berly (14:50):
That was the goal. Yeah.
The goal was to find what killedthe mom. And then all these
other but all these other thingswhich kind of happened along the

LA (14:57):
way. Okay, and so Dean. And Sam, or Dean plays Sam a
voicemail on a tape recorder. Ifanybody remembers those, right?
I

Berly (15:06):
was kind of curious. How did he get the voice, Okay, onto
the tape. I

LA (15:10):
literally wrote Dean's real good with that tape recorder,
right? Because I remember backin the day having you rewind,
Oh, you went too far fastforward. Oh, you went too far
that way. But man, he was

Berly (15:20):
on it. I remember my old college roommate and I got a
voicemail on our old like taperecorder for the landline in the
condo, and it was this kid govoicemail,

LA (15:31):
yeah, they left on your answering machine, yes,

Berly (15:34):
on the answering machine, yes. And the kid was going, Mom,
come pick me up. Oh, my God,that's creepy. And they were
like, breathing like, and thenthey go, mom, pick me up. Mom,
that is too creepy. Libby and Ileft that message on the machine
forever. We intended for it tobe forever. And then I can't

(15:56):
remember if it was me or her,but one of us accidentally
deleted it, and we were so upsetbecause it was the creepiest
fucking thing we had ever heardin our lives.

LA (16:05):
Imagine being that mom.

Berly (16:12):
Okay, so Dean's playing the tape recorder, yeah,

LA (16:14):
and so the so the voicemail kind of cuts in and out. You can
barely hear what the dad wassaying, yeah. But basically,
it's something that big hasabout to happen, and they're all
in danger, is what you've got togather from it. And Sam points
out that there's also EVP on it,and Dean, of course, is already
ready to hit it. And fastforward to that part.

Berly (16:34):
They can hit it and quit it true, right? He

LA (16:39):
cleaned up the audio, and there's a hidden message of a
woman saying, I could never gohome. And Sam reminds Dean, if
he goes, he has to be back byMonday, because he has this big
time law law school interview.
Oh, right, with Stanford, hisfree potential, free ride. So
law school, he's like, I'm gonnago, but you gotta get me back
here by Monday. Right now theyhead to Jericho. Oh, it's not

(17:02):
Colorado. It says JerichoCalifornia. That's why I was
thinking California. Thanks

Berly (17:09):
Google.

LA (17:11):
So we're not in Colorado, we're in California, and we see
a teenage driver driving downthis dark road at night speaking
to his girlfriend about how hecannot come over tonight. He has
to work in the morning. Okay, remember that, right? And he
sees a woman in white standingalone in the dark, pulls over,
she gets in and asks him to comehome with her. And I love that.

(17:31):
He's like, hell, yeah. And justlike, peels out. I was like,
wow, he's real quick to cheat afairy

Berly (17:36):
friend. All of a sudden, work in the morning was not so
urgent. Yeah.

LA (17:40):
I mean, she was very pretty.
She was beautiful, yeah. Butanyway, poor girlfriend. Well,
anyway, they arrive at thehouse, and it's derelict, like,
boarded up. Nobody's livingthere. Clearly no one's living
there. And she just says, I cannever go home. And then she
vanishes. He gets out, uh,starts to try to look for her.
And

Berly (18:00):
who needs to get laid that badly, right? I mean, if
somebody vanishes, vanish in mycar, I'm getting the fuck out of
there right away. I'm notgetting out and being like,

LA (18:09):
hello, we had a deal here.

Berly (18:13):
I thought you wanted me to come home with you. Where'd
you go? Like,

LA (18:16):
who really good point. Well, he's a dumb teenager. Dumb
teenager, those hormones. But Iforget what happened, but he got
spooked. Yeah, he drives away.
As he's driving, he looks in therear view window, window, and lo
and behold, who's back there.
She's in the back seat. Hefreaks out. Crashes through this
barrier, onto this bridge. Hestarts, it kind of pans out. He

(18:40):
starts screaming, and then bloodsplatters. All we get

Berly (18:43):
the first blood splooge, the first blood splooge of the
supernatural series. There willbe many more to come. La, okay,
so we are on an official bloodsplooge count. Well, I

LA (18:54):
had, I have to say when I was reading some Mary caps, they
kept saying blood splatter forwhen, no, that's a spoon, no,
no, no. For when the blood wasdripping from the ceiling, when
he was at the baby's cradle.
It's a blood splatter. I waslike, that's like a drip.

Berly (19:08):
That's like a drip, yeah, it's a post nasal drip of blood
into the baby crypt.

LA (19:15):
All right, back to Jericho, so Sam and Dean show up, I guess
this is the next day, and theythey're on the bridge, and it's
where the guy's power car wascrashed, and there's a ton of
cops around, and Dean pulls up,takes out a fake ID, and the two
brothers question the copsthere, posing as US Marshals,
which, like when I first sawthem, and the way they were

(19:36):
dressed, I was like, okay, they, you know, they look nice,
whatever. But then when itwhenever they said US marshals.
I was like, come on, nobody'sgonna buy that. You're a US
Marshal. Net out,

Berly (19:45):
right? And they didn't question the wardrobe. They were
like, You look awfully young forMarshalls. Wink, wink. Like,
deemed as just like, oh, well, that's kind of you, yeah. And
then we just move on, yeah, wejust move on. No more
questioning it. Oh. But anyway,it's those hormones. Again.

LA (20:05):
The cop says he knew the latest victim, his name was
Troy, and that his girlfriend isputting up missing posters in
town, but they have no leads asto where his whereabouts are,
nobody. Oh, and that was anotherthing. Like they said the car
was pristine. Remember,

Berly (20:20):
right? They was like, it is not, there is blood splooge
all over the windshield wasgone. Oh, was it? Yeah,

LA (20:26):
I thought that was weird, because, yeah, he was like, I
mean, there's no evidence incar. It's pristine. I didn't
catch nothing, yeah, so Dean andSam go to town and find Amy, who
is Troy's girlfriend, and she'sput, she is indeed putting up
signs very

Berly (20:40):
close to each other. She wasn't really sweating them out.
She was like, putting one on onewall and then literally right on
the counter. They were all over.
In this one like 12 foot area, there were 20 posters and a big
old bag full of them. So I wastrying to think, I was like,
maybe some of them are missingperson posters for the other men

(21:00):
who have gone missing. Nice ofher, yeah, but it did very
clearly show her hang twoposters right next to each
other. So, but

LA (21:11):
I thought it was rich. This girl, her one of her friends,
comes up to her as she's talkingto Sam and Dean, and the girl
puts her hand on the on Amy'sshoulder, and she's like, Hey,
are you okay? Acting like, suspicious, like these guys are
creeps. I was like, um, if thatwas me and like you were over
there with them, I'd be like,Hey, what's up? Who

Berly (21:28):
are your friends?

LA (21:29):
Introduce me. I wouldn't be like, two of them.

Berly (21:32):
Now there could be two of us, yeah, what's going on?
Hello.

LA (21:36):
These guys are not creeps, okay, yeah, crazy. No one

Berly (21:39):
can be that hot and be a creep, yeah, well, not in my
fictional universe. That's whatI'd like to believe. We wish, we
wish. So

LA (21:46):
they go to this local diner, whatever, and start talking, and
a friend brings up that there'sa local legend there about a
girl who died on Centennialhighway whose ghost picks up,
or, I'm sorry, whose ghosthitchhike it. Want to draw that
again on Centennial highwaywhose ghost hitchhikes and the
drivers who picks her updisappear, which sounds awfully

(22:07):
familiar, right? The the guysinvestigate further, they find
an article about a woman whocommitted suicide after her two
kids drown mysteriously. Hername was Constance Welsh, Welsh,
and she jumped from a localbridge back in 1981 the same
bridge where Troy's car wasfound and where they the boys
questioned the cops. So afterthat, they go to the they go to

(22:31):
a hotel. It's the same hoteltheir dad was in, and they, the
guy mentions their dad was amotel. Oh yeah, the guy mentions
that their dad was there andrented a room because it's the
same name on the credit cards. Ithink, yeah, the same fake names
on the credit card, yeah. And sothey, you know, break into the
breaking what, pick the lock andget in the room. There's, like,

(22:51):
a, I mean, things all over theinvesting like, you could
clearly see he's investigating, right? He's got salt in front of
the door, around the bed. And Iknow that's like, to keep out
beings or spirits or something,to keep you safe from him,
right? Yeah. And he lefteverything in his room. I mean,
there was even a half eatenburger,

Berly (23:13):
yeah? And Dean, like, picked it up and sniffed it was
like, Oh, yeah. And I was like, that burger is, like, a
McDonald's burger. And we allknow those don't those don't
spoil. Yeah,

LA (23:24):
you could still take a bite, right? It's fine,

Berly (23:27):
food snob.

LA (23:30):
So anyway, all from the pictures that he has on the
walls, he realizes Sam noticesthat their dad has solved the
woman in white mystery, right?
Because he has a picture ofconstant Welsh, and right above
it, it says woman in white. Deansays that dad would have their
dad would have destroyed thecorpse if he had figured that
out. And Sam says maybe theghost has another weakness. Dean

(23:51):
says their dad still would havedug her up destroyed it. So they
decide they have to go talk toher husband and figure out where
she was buried. But before theyget to go anywhere, Dean is
walking outside, and the copscome over and arrest him for
impersonating a US Marshal.

Berly (24:09):
They finally figured it out.

LA (24:12):
He Luckily, he makes a quick call to Sam, warns him, so Sam
takes off and doesn't getarrested. They

Berly (24:18):
got mad because he called those FBI agents, scolder and
moldy Oh my god. Oh yeah, molderand skull. I used to do that all
right. Now you did? I know youdid. They were like, that little
shit. Yeah, we're gonna do somedigging into him. Brat, little
brat. US Marshal, my ass. Well,

LA (24:37):
back at the sheriff's office, Dean gets interrogated,
and he is now a suspect in themen's disappearances, since they
think that was his room printedand had all the guys pictures on
the walls, right? Yeah, but thesheriff throws Dean, his dad's
diary at him, and there's thethere is a number in there that
he asks what it is. And Dean isobviously surprised, because he

(24:59):
knows his dad and. Goes anywherewithout the diary. And so he
just plays it off. You knowwhat? I think what he said, it
was this high school lockernumber or

Berly (25:08):
something like that.
Yeah, his name's Ted Nugent, andthat's my locker combination.
And he's such a smart ass, Iknow. Then

LA (25:15):
it cuts to Sam going to constance's husband and talking,
chatting with him. He asks ifhis dad had been there, and Mr.
Welch says yes, that he wasthere about three or four days
ago. And then he asks aboutwhere Constance is buried, and
He said that she's buried attheir old house. They have a
little bit of a like aconfrontation, because think

(25:36):
Dean's like, accuses him ofcheating on Sam. Sam starts to
say, Dean. Yeah, you said Jean.
You got,

Berly (25:43):
you got Dean on the brain girl. Sam does. Sam kind of
starts explaining the mythologybehind the woman in white, yeah,
and is explaining to him thatit's normally a woman scorned
from an Unfaithful lover, and isbasically insinuating to the

(26:05):
husband that Constance is awoman and white. Yeah, the
husband gets all defensive, of

LA (26:10):
course. It cuts back to the sheriff's office. They're still
interrogating Dean, but they getinterrupted by an emergency call
of shooting happening. He leavesDean cuff to the desks, to the
desk, not multiple desks, and henotices a paper clip from his
dad's journal. And of course, weknow they they know how to pick

(26:30):
a

Berly (26:30):
lock. They know how to get out of a sticky situation.
Yeah.

LA (26:33):
So he does that and escapes and I and then he calls Sam, who
is on his way to the Welch housewhere Constance was buried, and
He thanks him for the fake 911,call, because that was obviously
Sam. And he says the numbersthat were in their dad's diary
are coordinates, and their dadhas probably left Jericho to go

(26:56):
to this, wherever this was. Istill think it's odd that he
didn't take that with him, but Iguess, did he leave that for a
clue for them? I

Berly (27:02):
guess, I assume, so, yeah. Plus, you know when, as we
go through future episodes, theyrefer to Dad's journal a lot, so
it's also like a plot devicethat, okay, you know that that
they're going to be using, okay, but sure we'll say that Jeffrey
Dean Morgan, I'm sorry JohnWinchester left it behind
intentionally, yeah, so that hissons could come find him and

(27:25):
help him out,

LA (27:26):
well before they can discuss, you know, what Sam
found out and everything he isdriving and sees a woman in
white and just runs rightthrough her right and, of
course, that

Berly (27:37):
was pretty cool. It was I jumped a little bit. I enjoyed
that little sequence.

LA (27:42):
But Dean, of course, hears it and hears like the Sam's in
distress, and all of a sudden,of course, rear view mirror.
Look who's who's back there.
She's fucking in the car. Again, freaking constant fucking in the
car. She's

Berly (27:55):
in the fucking car.

LA (28:00):
All he she asks him to drive her home, and he says, No. And
so then she says, Oh yeah. Andthe car starts driving itself to
her house.

Berly (28:08):
She's like, Fuck you, yeah, we're going because you're
taking me home. You're taking mehome. Mr. Sam Winchester. And

LA (28:15):
then after getting there, she straddles him in the front
seat, good

Berly (28:20):
for her, right? He's like, You can't kill me because
I'm not unfaithful. I never havebeen, right? She's like, Ooh,
you will be yourself somethinglike that. Yeah.

LA (28:31):
So she's like, trying to make out with him and
everything, and he

Berly (28:35):
which not, okay, consent is key, right? Young lady, but

LA (28:40):
then she starts grabbing at his heart right until he's like,
in pain, and lo and behold, who's there to save his little
baby?

Unknown (28:48):
Bro? Oh, which total Wait. He

LA (28:51):
starts shooting at this ghost, which I was kind of like,

Berly (28:54):
shot out his own window to his car, right? Like, anyway.
I mean, it worked. It distractedher. So

LA (29:02):
true. Well, Sam takes it upon himself and says he's taken
her home. Yeah, all the wayhome, he

Berly (29:08):
figured out that she was actually scared to go in the
house. Yes, yeah. So he waslike, we're going

LA (29:14):
drives straight into the house, and there's a little bit
of a struggle between her andthem. And then all of a sudden
we see her two dead children atthe top of the stairs.

Berly (29:24):
Yes, that was creepy. I know water coming down the
stairs and everything. Yeah,

LA (29:29):
I don't, I don't like creepy ghost children are the worst.

Unknown (29:33):
They

LA (29:33):
end up coming down to Constance, and it was obvious,
you know, especially to Sam,that she was scared of coming
and facing them because of theguilt of what she did. And the
kids take their mom's spiritback with them to the nether
world or wherever, and they allvanish into a pool of water on
the floor on the way back to thehotel, they figure out that the

(29:56):
place the coordinates of theirdad left is somewhere in black
water. Ridge, Colorado, but ofcourse,

Berly (30:02):
now we're going to Colorado now. Oh, okay,

LA (30:07):
but of course, Sam's like, Hey, I can't go. I got my
interview. Yeah. So he getshome, and he's, you know, happy
to be back. His sweet littlegirlfriends left him a plate of
cookies with a note that shemisses them and she loves them.

Berly (30:23):
And he's gorgeous, by the way. Oh yeah,

LA (30:25):
I think she was on Friday Night Lights too, and she's been
able to some other stuff. I'mlike, she's not a bad actress. I
don't think, I didn't think soeither. Yeah, but he hears the
shower on, so he assumes that'sher in the shower. And so he
lays down on the blood, theblood, well, that's coming the
bed. He's just taking abreather, relaxing. And what?

(30:47):
What starts dropping on hishead, the splatter, the blood.
Splatter, the blood. Blood dripsonto his like a forehead. A
couple of drops on his forehead.
He looks up, and his girlfriendJessica is up on the ceiling,
just like his mom, just like hismom slashed stomach, like

Berly (31:02):
he had mommy issues, all right, and now you're gonna do
this too, yeah. Oh, so,

LA (31:09):
same thing that happens. He freaks out, starts, starts
trying to save her, but ofcourse, big bro Dean busts in,
pulls him out. Of course, shebursts into flames, and that's
that for Jessica.

Berly (31:23):
It's a shame, yeah, one thing leads to another

LA (31:28):
outside, Sam has clearly changed his mind and is packing
things into the back trunk, intothe Impala. Yeah, the Impala and
Dean comes over him to him, andall Sam says is, we got work to
do.

Berly (31:44):
And then the rock music kicked in. Oh yeah. So good. I
really enjoy the first episode.
It was, I will say it's a reallygood pilot, yeah, sets
everything up so nicely, youknow, we know they're looking
for dad. We know they're goingto be hunting monsters. We know
they have a great brother, likeI love the chemistry between the

(32:06):
two brothers, but we alsounderstand they're a little
estranged, so there's going tobe some head butting and
whatnot. And it's a really goodpilot. It sets up the series
really nicely. I agree. Nowlet's dig into the lore. Okay,
so the woman in white isactually a combination of two
different legends. One is Lalarona and the other is the

(32:27):
vanishing hitchhiker. So isthere any truth to the Lord? The
most common version of the LAlarona story begins with Maria.
It's a Mexican folklore story,by the way, she was beautiful
but vain, and married a veryrich man. The pair had two
children, and after a few happyyears together, their marriage

(32:49):
hit the rocks. Oh, her husbandapparently began to spend less
time at home and ignoring her,but was pouring all of his
attention on the children whenhe was home. Then one day, Maria
was out walking with herchildren, and she saw her
husband with another woman, enraged by what she's seen, she
threw the children into theriver, staring on as they like

(33:13):
just dropped into its murky deskand just died, damn, just in her
fit of rage, just this moment ofjust not too long after that,
she realizes what she's done andis immediately filled with
regret, so tormented with whatshe'd done, Maria then drowns
herself as well. Some storiessay she died from grief, but

(33:35):
most of them say that shedrowned and she's buried the
next day, but that very night, the villagers hear a woman
crying and asking, Where are mychildren? And she's in a long
white robe, like Maria's burialclothes, and is seen like
walking around the riverbanklooking for her children. Some

(33:57):
versions of the myth claim thatwhen she arrived at Heaven's
gates, she was refused accessand bandaged to purgatory until
she could find the children thatshe killed later, she was dubbed
larona, which actually means theWeeping Woman, and is apparently
seen near rivers, oceans andother bodies of water, always

(34:18):
after dark and always lookingfor her children. Over the
years, the story has developedwhere some people say that she
attacks cheating husbands aswell, but all versions of the
story have something in common.
When she cries, you better startrunning. Oh, oh. Now as to

(34:40):
whether or not there's any truthto this tale. Nothing can be
proven. The other legend was, again, the vanishing hitchhiker,
which you and I were talkingabout this while the pilot was
playing that we remember ahitchhiker story, a vanishing
hitchhiker story here in Dallas,Texas, at White Rock Lake, that.

LA (35:00):
I think I always heard it as the lady of White Rock Lake,
Lady

Berly (35:02):
of white or Lady of the Lake, is what I remember
hearing, or Lady of White RockLake, where you would pick her
up and she would ask you to takeher home, and by the time you
got on the other side of thelake, she'd be gone, and there
would be a puddle in the seat,is what I've heard. I haven't
heard anything further thanthat, but

LA (35:20):
I will say, I want to say I watched a movie recently where
they, like, said somethingsimilar in their town, or
something like that.

Berly (35:26):
Well, I thought it was interesting that Sam, in the
pilot, says that the lady inwhite is the phenomenon where
it's yeah, in multiple cities, because we have a vanishing hit
hitchhiker story, other townsand cities have a vanishing
hitchhiker story. Well, apparently, one of the most
infamous Vanishing Hitchhikerstories is in North Carolina,

(35:51):
and it's known as the story ofLydia's bridge in Jamestown.
She's a vanishing hitchhiker, orlady in white, same thing, like
they're always seen in white.
The story begins with a youngman driving down a winding road
through Jamestown late at night.
It's well after midnight on afoggy night, and his eye loads
are growing heavy as he makesthe trek back to high point

(36:15):
through the rainy mist, he justbarely sees the ghostly white
figure of a pale woman in awhite dress standing beneath a
curved bridge and waving herlong, thin arm in the air. He
pulls over to give themysterious hitchhiker a ride.
When they appear at her home, hegets out of the car to come
around and open the door, butwhen he gets to the passenger

(36:37):
side, she's gone, assuming shehad simply rushed into her home.
He goes and knocks on the doorto make sure she's okay, and
instead of Lydia and very oldwoman answers the door, he asks
if Lydia is inside. And the oldwoman says, Lydia's been dead
for years. She was my daughter, and she seems like she's still

(36:59):
trying to get home. So we'veheard that version of the story.
I've heard that version where, like, they get there and they're
like, no, she died 20 years ago,or whatever. So there's that.
But apparently, a duo ofparanormal investigators
actually dug up the historybehind the legend specific to
Lydia and the tale of Lydia'sbridge, and in their 2018 book

(37:22):
looking for Lydia, they takereaders through dusty newspaper
clippings and all this otherstuff that led them to the grave
of quote, unquote, Lydia. Hername was actually Annie L
Jackson, and they haven't beenable to confirm what her middle
name was, but they're thinkingthat the l was probably Lydia.
According to a newspaper articlefrom June 1920 Miss Annie

(37:45):
Jackson, a young lady of thiscity met almost instant death
when riding in an automobilethat turned turtle on High Point
Road about three miles from highpoint, which I don't know what
turned turtle means, butwhatever she basically was in
this accident. The car flippedand her head was cracked against

(38:07):
the concrete. She died after hertragic death is when people
began claiming to see theghostly hitchhiker appearing on
this specific bridge in thattown. So it was years later that
the road beneath the bridge isgoing to be rerouted to a new
bridge, so Lydia's bridge isgoing to just, kind of, it's

(38:28):
just kind of disappeared underovergrowth of plants and
whatnot. But that is supposedlya little bit of truth, yeah, to
the woman in white tail. Okay,so that is the lore for the
pilot episode of Supernatural.
So what are your overallthoughts? What are you thinking

(38:49):
since I've kind of pulled youinto, yeah, this journey with
me. La, what were your thoughtson the pilot?

LA (38:57):
Well, I already said, like, we just, we were just saying, I
mean, it's, it's a good firstepisode. It definitely pulls you
in. Yeah? You know, especiallyat the end, when that the same
thing happens to the girlfriend,I would be like, we're we're
cursed, right?

Berly (39:11):
Poor Winchester family, like they haven't had enough
happen today. So yeah, butlooking forward to the next one.
Yes,

LA (39:22):
it's just such a long road,

Berly (39:25):
such 320 episodes, crazy.
Oh, I hope we're gonna make it.
And we definitely want listenersupport to make it. We for sure.

work. So until next time. Let'scheers to one of the more
infamous quotes from this veryfirst episode, which is, driver
picks the music. Shotgun shit.
Let me start it over. Driverpicks the music. Shotgun shuts

(40:14):
his cake hole. Cheers. Thank youfor listening to denim wrapped

LA (40:23):
