Berly (00:01):
Welcome to denim wrapped nightmares tipsy exchange
Podcast where we explore thesupernatural series episode by
episode.

LA (00:10):
over drinks, we'll discuss the lore of gore and what we
adore about the Winchesters andtheir adventures.

Berly (00:17):
I'm burly, and I'm a new fan of the series.

LA (00:20):
I'm LA, and I'm here along for the ride. Now, let's get
tipsy. Hello, la. Hey Burley.

Berly (00:28):
So last week on something wicked. We watched Sam and Dean
investigate a small town inWisconsin, where children were
falling into comas forapparently no reason at all.
They couldn't figure it out.
They didn't know what it was.
Turned out. It was the creepyfucking doctor and I kind of
knew it all along. Yeah, itdidn't like his face. Yeah, you

(00:50):
said that whoever that actor is.
I'm sorry. I know. I'm sorry.
It's very rude. I'm sorry. Butit's just, it's the truth. When
we're tipsy and talking aboutthings, the filters just seem to
turn off.

LA (01:00):
We're not always so nice.
Yeah.

Berly (01:03):
Apologies. Apologies in advance to everyone. Anyway,
they discover that creepy facedoctor is a witch. And he is
creeping into the bedrooms havechildren at night and like
sucking out their lifeforce? Ithink it was. And we find out
that there's there's somehistory there. Yep. Which sucked
on little Sam. Hmm, I shouldrephrase tried to Yeah, I should

(01:26):
rephrase that as well, that thewitch tried. You tried to suck
out Sam's lifeforce. And then hetried to do it again when he was
adult. Yeah. But luckily, Deanrescued him, of course, to save
his baby brother. Yet again.
They saved the children as well.
Got rid of that old which, whenwe got a better glimpse at John
Winchester as a dad, and I gottasay, not great.

LA (01:49):
Yeah.

Berly (01:52):
So it was it was a good story as far as kind of
understanding why Sam and Deanare a little codependent. Yeah,
not the healthiest ofrelationships. Why that
protectiveness is there? And notso much understanding the blind
obedience to the dad. But

LA (02:08):
that's all they know. And they knew you know, True. True,
true.

Berly (02:12):
It was a good little episode.

LA (02:13):
Yeah, it was good.

Berly (02:14):
I liked this week's better. Yeah,

LA (02:17):
this was good. I enjoyed this. A lot going on. Did I mean
they always do but

Berly (02:21):
so take us into the recap for I hope I'm pronouncing
provenance. They said the word afew times on the show. Hang on,
let me Google its

LA (02:28):
provenance. I kept thinking you were saying Providence at
first. But then I realized itwas provenance.

Berly (02:35):
Let's see here. What's the definition of provenance? A
place or origin? know a place oforigin or earliest known history
of something? The beginning ofsomething's existence,
something's origin, or a recordof ownership of a work of art,
or an antique used as a guide toauthenticity, or quality? So

(02:58):
it's probably that last one.

LA (02:59):
Last one. That last? Oh, that was? Oh, yeah. Well, yeah,
I mean, pretty much. Yeah. Forthis episode, for sure.

Berly (03:05):
Yeah. They were saying provenance provenance. And I'm
like, What are they talkingabout? Find the provenance. I'm
not fancy. I don't know whatthat word means. That we do. Now
we do. Take us into the recap.

LA (03:16):
Yeah. So we start out with his fancy couple.

Berly (03:20):
I thought we were gonna get to see some action through
and he had a nice little body. Iwas like, oh, yeah, yeah. Yeah.

LA (03:27):
I was happy for them. Yeah, I was terrible. I wasn't. But
yeah, so they obviously went tosome art show or something. And
they have this painting thathe's hanging on the mantel.

Berly (03:39):
And they're well off tree. Yeah.

LA (03:40):
I mean, the house. Awesome.
Yeah. And there's staring at it.
And it's this picture of a old, like a family from like, the
1800s or something like that.
And as it tends to go, I alwaysfeel like there's a little
creepy looking. Yeah. And thelady confirms that I'm not
crazy, because she's like, isn'tit a little creepy? And then
they start, you know, gettinghands on each other. I guess the
creepy photo, gotta go on forum.

(04:04):
And she he tells her to headupstairs. And she gets ready.
She's got her little 990 on thehandle. Yes, she's ready. And
poor thing. He's downstairs, locking up, and he we see him.
He's going up the stairs, takingclothes off as he's going. And
he gets in bed ready? And

Berly (04:27):
he's like, Did you spill something? Like what happened
here?

LA (04:30):
And we see that his hand is covered in blood. Yeah. And then
we see that she is dead and cutlots of blood. very gory. Yeah.
That was quite a start.

Berly (04:42):
The other cool thing they did is when he was locking up,
they showed something from theperspective like we couldn't see
what it was it was from whateverthis things perspective was
whereas going up the stairs, andit sounded like something was
being dragged, which we know atthe end of the episode is really
yield, that it's a little girldragging the doll. But that was

(05:03):
that was a very creepy cool shotof them going up the stairs. And
I was like, did you hear that?
What's that noise supposed tobe? And so that I liked that
shot.

LA (05:12):
Yeah. Spoiler alert. Yeah.
Well, I

Berly (05:16):
mean, if you haven't watched the episode, I can't
imagine you'd be listening to usjust yet. But yeah, spoiler
alert. It's not the dad. It'sthe little girl. And then the
other thing I did notice is allthe people who buy this
painting, like you just said, they put it prominently
displayed over the mantel oftheir fireplace. Why would you
do that with some other familythat Yeah, I thought that was

(05:37):
weird. Yeah. Anyway, it was agood intro.

LA (05:41):
Yeah, I don't think I'd be buying a painting of another
family anyway, but true. Annie, who watch around row. So the
boys we have them arrive inupstate New York. And they we
learned that mark and AuntAlaska are the ones that were
murdered in the beginning. Andthey're looking through dad's
journal. And Sam thinks it's alittle weird that they were

(06:02):
found dead in their house, everything was locked up,
because we know he wasdownstairs locking up. And they
realized that he had a recordof, I think, a couple other
murders that had happened overthe decades in this place, like
in the same manner, because Iguess everybody's throats are
slit.

Berly (06:18):
Yeah, he said it was to where it was two or three other
people in the same area ofupstate New York, where it was
similar circumstances, throatslit, no sign of injury, blah,
blah, blah, blah, blah. Yeah.
And also in the bar scene, wefind out that Dean is hitting on
girls by telling them he's ascout for a reality TV show.
Yeah. And really hit me thisweek. Dean's kind of a creep.

LA (06:44):
Well, I mean, to like, he's never gonna have like a
relationship when they'retraveling the way they do. So
it's like, I'm sure he's justtrying to have a little fun with
it like,

Berly (06:53):
and if you're hooking up with somebody purely because
that's their job. I mean, I'mnot gonna say you deserve it.
But you're probably not going tobe that disappointed if it
doesn't go anywhere as well.
Yeah. So you're probably justdoing it like, let's see what
happens. See where this goes.

LA (07:07):
But then anyway, we go the boys go investigate. Sam does
his wet EMF thing throughout thehouse, and he doesn't find
anything says it's clean. But hementions that all the
furnishings are gone, too. SoDean's like, well, well, we need
to find that stuff. Becausemaybe something's attached to
one of the items from the house.
And they ended up at an auctionhouse with a lot of very fancy

(07:27):
rich white people.

Berly (07:31):
Remember when they were looking at people you were like,
Oh, the wasps are swarming

LA (07:36):
for sure. I mean, immediately the way the one guy
looked at deed and Sam is arewalking in, I'm like, Oh, God.
But Dean was so so funny. He'slike, eating all those snacks.
And I loved it when the guy hewas like some champagne and
seems like he's not awake. Andthen they finally bring it by
and he's like, sniffs it andthen like, just gives them a

(07:57):
look and walks off. I was like,Oh my God.

Berly (07:59):
It's fucking adorable.
Yeah, kind of a creep. But stilladorable. I'd still hit it.

LA (08:04):
Yeah, so the guy that they were talking to ends up. He's, I
think he's he's the owner of theauction. And his daughter walks
up. And of course, she'sgorgeous, beautiful. And she
takes a liking to Sam. Deantakes notice. And she starts to
tell them about the paintingbecause they're looking at it.

Berly (08:24):
She like test Sam like says, oh, it looks like blahdy
blah, and Sam like kind ofsmokes. Like, I know what's
going on here. And he's like, actually, I was thinking it more
was like, Who to who? But youknew that you were just trying
to figure out if I did. Oh, andshe's like, Oh, and then she
knew she had to have them. Yeah,I think that was the moment. I

(08:45):
mean, she already wasinterested. But for sure. Yeah.

LA (08:48):
Well, do you notice is that she takes a liking to him. And
so he suggests that he take herto dinner on a date to schmoozer
and get some more info. User.
Real, real good encouraging.
Again, dear brother,

Berly (09:01):
we're finding out Dean's kind of a creep. Oh, I don't
want to believe it. The littleinteraction was cute, though,
where he's like, You need tohook up. Yeah, Sam gets all
defensive. And then Dean sayssomething along lines of maybe
you won't be so cranky. Yeah.
Yeah. And Sam just kind of shutsup at that.

LA (09:18):
I mean,

Berly (09:21):
to there at dinner,

LA (09:22):
right. Yeah. And it's cute.
He He's clearly out of hiselement there in like this fancy
restaurant and the guy givesthem the whitelist. And he's,
you can tell he's like, itdoesn't know what the hell to
do. And she's sweet enough thatshe's like, I'm just going to
take a beer. Yeah. So that wascute. And they get to chatting
and her. She hasn't gotten adate since her mom died
suddenly, like a year or so agoand they kind of bond and what

(09:42):
happened? Did they talk aboutthe painting on the date? I
don't think they do really. It'sjust them talking getting to
know each other right.

Berly (09:51):
Now. I think they did talk about the painting a little
bit but I don't think she sharedmuch information other than what
Sam already knew, like they hadalready know On that there were
these three previous owners ofthe painting and then it was put
in storage until it was sold tothe Alaska's. And then they were
talking about the paintingagain.

LA (10:09):
I also thought it was funny after I think this might be a
little before the date, but howthey go into the motel room and
it's like disco themed.

Berly (10:16):
I loved that was so cute.
And they made sure that we gotto see this. Where are these
motels? I want to go stay inthese motels because there was
one motel they had where therewas like practically a tree in
there. And then this motel, thebar, the decor, it just looks
like a good time. Yeah. I wantto go stay in these motels.

LA (10:37):
It is cute. After the dinner date. They aggressively go and
jump the fence at the auctionhouse. I

Berly (10:44):
liked it. I liked it. My God. reminded in asylum they
they showed that Dean scale thefence and Vance fence. I liked
that shot. And I just I likedthis one too. I liked it. Yeah,
they can scale me.

LA (11:02):
They go in and cut the picture out of the frame and
burn it thinking which we bothwere like this seems a little
too easy. Yes. Of course. Thatwasn't all I needed to do. So
Dean, his genius plan. He tellsSam that he dropped his wallet
last night at the auction house, they need to go back and get it
like oh my god, they're gonnaget in trouble. And they they

(11:23):
walk in like looking all paniclooking everywhere. And Sarah
comes up on. And lo and behold,Dean pulls out his wall and was
like, oh, yeah, I gotta give youthat 20 bucks, I owe you. And
then he's like, I'm going totake off. So he just did it to
get him to go back and meet upwith Sarah, which I thought was
so cute. Yeah. While he's whilehe's standing there talking to
her. They're bringing thepainting by that they supposedly

(11:46):
cut out last night. But it'sit's it's still back. It came
back a groove back. And it'sgoing by, like, it's so awkward.
But Sam just like, Oh my God.
I'm just having like a normalconversation and John it oh my
god.

Berly (12:01):
I loved it. Because you and I are both terrible about
over reacting to little thingslike, like, I have these
measuring cups that hang on theinside of a cabinet and La knows
they're there. And yet everytime she opens the cabinet,
Erica freaks me out. Just it wasit was such an exaggerated

(12:21):
response. But I found it veryrelatable. Yeah, I would have
done that. Yeah.

LA (12:26):
I mean, he's like, the hell we burden.

Berly (12:29):
He's all flustered afterwards, like, yeah. Oh, my,
oh, begging her not to sell thepainting.

LA (12:35):
Yeah. So he's like, don't don't sell that he then he
realizes they need to do alittle more investigating. So
they head to the library whereyour favorite character is.

Berly (12:44):
I loved the library. And he was so enthusiastic to help
Sam and ease into it. He wasvery, very happy to talk to them
about everything. And he found alot of shit for them. He did.

LA (12:55):
Yeah, he was like, Star row.
Yeah. And he tells us that inthe painting, it's Isaiah
merchant and his family hits histhree kids and wife, I believe.
And there's a picture behindthem. And then there's the
switchblade on a table in frontof them. And they're all looking
forward. Right. Which beforethis, the father was looking
down at the daughter. So it's

Berly (13:18):
changing the library and tells them that I think that
they were on the Titanic. I knowI saw the word no, I

LA (13:23):
think it was a it was a headache was about the Titanic.
But the article below is whereit talks about him wearing his
fate. I

Berly (13:30):
thought that he murdered his family on the Titanic. So I
was really confused later, whenthey were showing that the
bodies had been cremated.

LA (13:38):
No, no, no. That was just the headline of the day. Gotcha.
But lower news was that thelocal man had slit barber
family. Yes, he was a barber bytrade. And he slit his whole
family's throats and then killedhimself.

Berly (13:51):
Yes. Okay. That makes more sense. Yeah, the librarian

LA (13:55):
pulls up a picture of the original painting. And that's
when we see that it's changedfrom what they originally saw.
So Sam wants to call Sarah upand see if they can view it
again, just to make sure if it'schanged again in any way,

Berly (14:08):
and Dean was saying it's changing for a reason, right?
Let's see if there's somethingelse different.

LA (14:14):
And she tells them that her father actually sold it to a
friend of theirs named Evelyn.
And he's like, what the hell ittold you not to sell it and
right. And so they all rush overto this lady's house, and Sarah
insists on going and it's thislovely lady, I guess it's just
living by herself and they walkup but honor and hurt. Art's not
just slit. It is like, cuthalfway off a mosque like a

(14:39):
little.

Berly (14:42):
And before they show them show up at the house. They
actually showed Evelyn sittingin her. Oh, you're by the fire
having her tea. And again, thepainting is prominently
displayed on the mantel. Andthey did a cool shot. You're the
one who was like that was reallyyeah, they

LA (14:57):
show the the switchblade like moving threw her eyeglasses
that she sat down.

Berly (15:02):
Yeah, it was really cool.
And we still don't see who'sdoing this. Like we see the
attack from the attackersperspective and Evelyn being
like, whoa, right. So we'restill not sure who's doing this.
Obviously the assumption is thatit's Isaiah because of the new
story said he killed everybody.

LA (15:19):
Well, they alert the police that poor Evelyn's gone and they
go back to the hotel room, motelroom. And Sarah shows Cher comes
in and she's hottie. She's, shewants to know what's going on.
She's there to help. She's notgonna go take no for an answer.
So they decided to go back toEvelyn's house, they look at the
painting. And then I think theswitch blades moved a different

(15:43):
way. And then the I think thefather's had his turn again. And
then their notice the picturebehind them that I thought
looked like it was the sameframe that this actual painting
is in

Berly (15:53):
that was very absorbent.
By the way, I didn't even noticethere was a picture behind them
until you said that and it endedup being very important it true

LA (16:00):
that well, they didn't say it was same frame, but it's
which odd to have a picture ofyour family's Maza lien hanging
in your house. But it's that'swhat it was. It's like they've
got one of those ones that standon their own and then the whole
family's inside but on the topit said merchant don't know why
you'd have a painting of that inyour house. But all right.

Berly (16:19):
Well, I think that they said, I think they said this
later, I could be making it upin my head because I do that
sometimes. But I think they saidlater that Isaiah was trying to
warn people. That's why he waslooking at the daughter in the
painting. And that's why therewere certain changes happening
in the painting because it wasIsaias ghost trying to get
people to figure out yeah, thislittle bitch is killing people.

(16:42):
Yeah, so I guess I guess ghostpaint somehow snapped a picture
or did something to wear. He putthat up there in the painting

LA (16:53):
that takes them like three tries at different cemeteries
and then they finally find themausoleum go in break in Reagan.
Yep. Yeah. And it's they've gotwhich I don't know that. I
always think that like the urnsare inside where they have a
little nameplates or whateverbut these urns were sitting
outside and then for the kideach of the kids they had like a

(17:18):
little window unit thing thatshould had like each of their
favorite toys which is supercreepy. And little girls was
there the doll that we stilljust is it all the painting?
Yes. Okay, that she has in thepainting and D notices that
Isaiah is not there so then theytrack down where he or Dean
tracks down where he goes backto the library and tracks down

(17:39):
where Isaiah was buried and theygave him a poppers burial date
just a pine box and buried in acemetery so they go and dig him
up burn his bones

Berly (17:50):
I remember you commenting on how like kudos to Sarah for
not immediately being freakedout that we're gonna go we're
gonna go dig up a grave.

LA (17:57):
I was like, I mean, I know they're really hot and like seem
like nice guys or whatever. ButI think I'd be wondering, I
that's where if I was alive, like if I was there and I'm like
sitting in the cemetery watchingthese two guys dig up a grave
I'd be like, No, that I shouldhave come at myself.

Berly (18:12):
Like I've already done we're at all we've already like
broken into somebody's home andthat person ended up being
murdered. Yeah, and we'vealready broken into their home
again and tampered with thecrime scene. And now we're
sitting here digging up graveslike do I want the D this bad?
They're they're breaking

LA (18:27):
a lot of locks.

Berly (18:29):
I mean, if I didn't, it's been a while to get caught.

LA (18:31):
Yeah. But anyway, so they decide just to be on the safe
side. Let's head back toEvelyn's and burn the painting
again. No, just to you know, make sure that shits dead. And
Sam and Sarah actually gettrapped in the house or indeed
can't get it and he tries topick the lock. All that stuff

(18:53):
can get in. Sam realizes thespirit is in the house coming
for them. And I think he saysone of the they need Psalter
iron.

Berly (19:00):
Yes, yes. And they looked at the painting and saw the
little girl wasn't she was gone.
Yeah.

LA (19:05):
And so which makes sense because I think I think what it
said to was like he was tryingto warn them but also like
restraining her, like keepingher in the painting. You know,
and now that his bones are gone.

Berly (19:16):
She's free. She's loose.

LA (19:18):
Yep. And she's creepy.

Berly (19:20):
She was creepy as fuck.
Kudos to that actress. Right.
She came around the corner. Shedidn't have to say shit, right?
No one's super scary. Yeah.

LA (19:28):
Oh, and she's so she shows up and she's like Dean's Dean
actually found that they weresearching the house for
something like iron or whatever.
And it just happens to be by thepoker for the fire.

Berly (19:38):
They're looking under the chair of iron and it's like the
fireplaces right there. Come on,

LA (19:45):
but right so she starts coming at them but then she does
this weird thing with her facewhere it's like I've said creepy
a lot and

Berly (19:55):
there was a creepy episode. It was you did you were
like, oh, creepy, right? Yeah,creepy.

LA (20:00):
He takes a swipe better with the poker and she disappears.

Berly (20:03):
After that they're like yelling and screaming. And Sarah
tells Sam that because she'sthat antique specialist that
little kids dolls were made intheir image to the point that
they might even use the kid'shair. Yeah. And so Sam yells at
Dean through the door so Sam, soDean takes off to the mausoleum
to go burn, burn that door.

LA (20:24):
He bust those gates down in the car. You were like, oh,
yeah, he

Berly (20:27):
just drove right through them. I was like to him, I
thought we were gonna get to seehim climb a fence again, the

LA (20:32):
brothers in danger. He's gotta he's got to help his baby
bro. Wastin time with gates.
Then it goes back to theEvelyn's house and this little
girl slams. Is it a piano? Likea big old piano?

Berly (20:47):
I think it was just a desk with a hutch. Yes, that

LA (20:49):
Yeah. slams it into Dr. Sam.
I mean, yeah, I mean, that lookslike it hurt. Yeah. Sara tries
to come over and get him whichgirl throws her across the room
into the wall. And she startscoming at her with the blade.
Sweet, sweet Sam just somehowgets away from that desk. And
what looks like he's doing itlike one handed when he's

(21:09):
pushing it away from himself.

Berly (21:12):
Drawn man true. And he cares about her true. He already
told her he heard about her.
Because remember, there's thatscene where he's like, people
that care about they end updying. And then he was like, Oh,
you have an eyelash on yourface. And he took his finger.
Oh, yeah. The eyelash off. And Itold him, Do you know what I
told you? I remember. I told LA.

(21:34):
I was like, I would have deepthroated his finger and then
said, Guess what I wished for?
Oh, my God. When he was holdingthat finger right in front of
her face. He was asking for it.
Come on. Oh my god.

LA (21:49):
Anyway, Sam, like, runs right into her gets her out of
harm's way. And they turn aroundand Dean's finally at the Muslim
bus shoots through the window toget the little doll and lights
her hair on fire. And then Ithink the little girl's about to
take another swipe at them. Andthen she burns up because Dean

(22:10):
saved the day in the nick oftime. They are back at the
auction house and and they'rethe guys were there packing it
up. And so they're like, Okay, where should we take it? Not our
guys, the guys that worked forthe Auction House and she's
like, taken aback and burden andthey're like, looking at me like
what the hell? And she's like, Ineed it guys. I'm serious. And
it's like, well, why did youhave them pack it

Berly (22:30):
up? Right? That's what I say. I was like, they're
probably looking at you likeyou're crazy because they got a
bunch of work. Getting that box.
They're getting it packed uplike the box is fucking heavy.
They have a dolly for it. Andyou're just gonna burn it and be
like, paying me overtime. Right?
Why do you have us do all thisif you're just gonna burn it?
Yeah. Oh, well. Sarah is not inher right mind is she's been

(22:53):
through a lot. She's beenthrough a lot. Sam still hasn't
given it up. I mean, she's justcoming through a lot right now.
Okay.

LA (23:00):
And she they have to say their goodbyes and you know
she's she and Sam and Dean allsay goodbye and Sam she's sad
Sam left and she's shuts thedoor and sleeping on the door
and not enter the she opens bothdoors open wide double doors.
Yeah, she's just there and Samjust takes her in and gives her

(23:21):
a bail kiss.

Berly (23:23):
And then Dean's like That's my boy. Yeah.

LA (23:28):
I was like, Oh, what a kiss he gets a kiss big deal. But
then when we were reading thisrecap at the end it says that he
returns and kisses Sarah anddecided to stay in town for a
few days so they can betogether.

Berly (23:39):
So if this line definitely started with a sex
scene, I'm going to be reallydisappointed. Well, I

LA (23:44):
think we might be disappointed but probably
anyway,

Berly (23:47):
I thought this episode was going to start with the sex
scene is like no just kidding.
Murder.

LA (23:52):
Worse yet a lot more than gonna get a lot more than that
than sex I think.

Berly (23:59):
Yeah, it was. Fuck this society. Like why is it okay
that I can see a poor elderlywoman's head almost fall off
because her throat got slit sodeeply, but I can't see some
more ass. Yeah, CW Come on. BeBetter. Better.

LA (24:19):
So that's that was this week's episode. It was nice to
see Sam. You know. Getting somelady love. Yeah, I really went
all the way but

Berly (24:30):
not all the well. Lady attention as far as we know.
True. Yeah. And it was it wascute. I liked their little
argument. Where Dean's basicallylike you need to get late.
You're cranky and your main andSam finally just like fine.

LA (24:47):
I mean, I'd probably I probably need somebody to do
that for me to like, push youpush me to do it. You know?
Yeah.

Berly (24:53):
To move move forward.
Yeah, I enjoyed this episode. Ithought it was really cute. The
glorious thing was the intro Ithought the intro was great. I
was like, holy shit. Yeah, thisis gonna be a good episode. Lots
of blood and blood and then theold lady's head. Yeah, those
were the two. But yeah, I reallyI enjoyed this episode. I
enjoyed this episode. So next wego into the lore. Yeah,

(25:13):
surprisingly, there are severalstories of haunted paintings. So
I pulled up a few examples.
First is the stage craft or thehanging man. This eerie painting
is an adaptation of a photographwhich was taken by a commercial

(25:33):
photographer James Kidd. Thephoto was taken of the wooden
cart, and the figure of aheadless man was only found
after the picture was developed.
With no evidence of it beingtampered with. The artist Laura
P. was drawn to the photographand felt she had to paint it.
Her oil painting of thephotograph was hung in her house

(25:54):
causing inexplicable events. Sheclaims that it has been
responsible for a mysteriousleak, objects being knocked over
broken items, and evenmysterious knocks on doors.
Laura has had many offers to buythe painting however, she fears
what will happen in the homes ofbuyers. Get rid of it, right.

(26:15):
It's a painting of a photograph.
If the photograph is causingcurse things to happen just like
render the painting.

LA (26:26):
Clearly she hasn't watched any supernatural to know or
learn it bitch.

Berly (26:31):
You'd know what to do.
Laura p. So next we have TheCrying Boy. This has been blamed
for countless house fires. Oh,Bruno Amedeo completed the
painting as part of a series ofcrying orphans, and published it
under the name Giovanni Raglanwhy? Festival arresting he made
many prints of the painting tosell to tourists Following the

(26:55):
Second World War. Following itsdistribution. The painting has
been found untouched and manyburned down homes. Oh, yes, very
creepy. A story began to developabout the boy in the painting.
His parents allegedly died in afire and the orphan boy cursed
every home into which he wastaken in. So who knows if that's

(27:19):
true or not. I don't think theorphan boy has even been
identified. But in many cases, people now refuse to have the
painting in their home. Yeah, wechoose who's coming knocking on
your door and being like, Hey,can you can you keep this? Who
are you have to go? Check thisoff my hands. No, get that out
of my home. Yeah.

(27:40):
So next we have the dead mother.
Edvard Munch.

LA (27:47):
Like oh, yeah,

Berly (27:48):
Edvard Munch. Oh,

LA (27:49):
I know that is okay.

Berly (27:51):
This is a famous painter known for the screen. Okay, I
know the screen. I didn't knowthe artist, and he is
responsible for the dead mother.
The painting shows a young girlwith her hands at the sides of
her face in shock or despair.
With her dying mother lying inbed behind her munches childhood
saw the death of his mother andtwo siblings to tuberculosis,

(28:13):
which appears to be theinspiration for the painting.
Many people claim that they feeluneasy around the painting and
that her eyes follow them aroundthe room. They've also said that
their sounds of rustlingbedsheets echoing near the
painting.

LA (28:31):
That's the scream has been stolen a couple times. I think,

Berly (28:34):
Billy, the original.
That's crazy.

LA (28:37):
I don't know if they've found it or what? I remember
reading that I think it waslower than overseas somewhere
and it was stolen. And they weresearching for the people that
stole it. Like how does thateven happen anymore?

Berly (28:49):
I don't know. There's still that one museum that got
broken into that that crime wasnever solved to where people
wouldn't steal shit, or thievesman. It was a long time ago
though. All right, so anotherquick example, portrait of
Samantha Houston. This seeminglysweet painting of a little girl
has a dark story behind it. Thesubject Samantha is said to be

(29:10):
the four year old daughter of asenator in Texas. Samantha's
father brought his daughter whenhe stayed at the Driskill hotel
in Austin in 1887, where sheunfortunately fell down the
stairs when playing with herball. Since then, her ghost is
said to haunt the Driscoll whereshe died. Her painting completed

(29:33):
by Richard King was hung in thehotel where she died and has
focused the spirits allegedactivity. a bouncing ball can
often be seen in the hotellobby, door handles beside the
painting rattle, and herexpression seems to distort as
guests view the painting. Guestshave also reported feeling

(29:54):
nauseous or a feeling a feelingof like falling around The
artwork the tail that seems tomost resemblance what we saw in
today's episode belongs to theartwork titled The hands resist
him. Oh. So this painting wasfirst displayed at the fine

(30:18):
Gerton gallery in Beverly Hills,California during the early
1970s. A one man stone ham showat the gallery, which included
this piece was reviewed by theart critic at the Los Angeles
Times. During the show, thepainting was purchased by actor
John Marley, most notable forhis role as Jack Woltz in The

(30:41):
Godfather. Sometime afterMarley's death, the painting was
found at the site of an oldbrewery by an elderly
Californian couple, as stated intheir original eBay listing. The
painting appeared on the auctionwebsite in February of 2000.
According to the seller, theaforementioned couple, the

(31:03):
painting carried some form ofcurse, their eBay description
made a series of claims that thepainting was haunted. It
included that the characters inthe painting moved during the
night, and that they wouldsometimes leave the painting and
enter the room in which it wasbeing displayed. Also, there was

(31:25):
a series of photographs thatwere included with the painting
that said that it was evidencein which the female doll
character threatened the malecharacter with a gun that she
was holding. And that caused himto attempt to leave the painting
like this is a character's thisis happening in the painting and
there's pictures of it. Adisclaimer was included with the

(31:48):
listing absolving the sellerfrom all liability if the
painting was purchased, like ifyou buy this and you die, like
we're not responsible.

LA (31:57):
I mean, I guess good insurance. For so

Berly (31:59):
news of the listing spread quickly on the internet.
And you know, just from peoplesharing it and doing whatever
some people claimed that simplyviewing the photos of the
painting made them feel ill orhave unpleasant experiences.
Eventually, the auction page wasviewed over 30,000 times. After

(32:21):
an initial bid of $199. Thepainting eventually received 30
bids and sold for 1025 bucks.
The buyer perception gallery inGrand Rapids Michigan,
eventually contacted BillStoneham, and related the
unusual tale of its auction oneBay, and their acquisition of
it. He reported being quitesurprised by all the stories and

(32:45):
strange interpretations of theimages in the painting.
According to the actual artist, the objects presumed by the eBay
sellers to be a gun is actuallynothing more than a dry cell
battery and a tangle of wires.
Stoneham recalls that both theowner of the gallery in which

(33:05):
the painting was firstdisplayed, and the art critic
who reviewed it died within oneyear of coming into contact with
the painting. So that part'sfact, but everything else now.
So that's what I could find onhaunted paintings. A lot. I was
surprised. Yeah, I was. I wassurprised. I didn't know this

(33:28):
was the thing. All right. So toclose it out. We have a quote
from Sam. When they run Evelyn'shouse, Sam said, What kind of
house does it have salt? Lowsodium freaks. Yeah, cheers.
Cheers. Thank you for listeningto denim wrapped nightmares.
