Berly (00:01):
Music. Welcome to denim
wrapped nightmares, Tipsy
exchange Podcast where weexplore the supernatural series,
episode by episode, over
LA (00:11):
drinks, we'll discuss the
lore the gore and what we adore
about the Winchesters and theiradventures.
Berly (00:17):
I'm Burleigh and I'm a
new fan of the series.
LA (00:20):
I'm LA, and I'm here along
for the ride. Now let's get
tipsy. Hello, la. Hello Burly.
Berly (00:29):
Last week we what's the
blue ice or cold song, don't
fear the Reaper.
LA (00:35):
Oh yeah, yeah.
Berly (00:36):
And the episode of faith
Dean got electrocuted because he
was playing around in water, andfired off a taser at a monster.
Yeah, it was apparently 100,000volts, and it fucked up his
heart. So he was given a fewweeks to live. And they went
sought out a faith healer, andit turned out, wasn't a faith
(00:57):
healer, they were controlling aReaper, which there's apparently
multiple Reapers, and they savedthe day. They they broke the
spell, and the Reaper got itsrevenge, but unfortunately,
sweet Julie Benz did not gethealed before they did it, so I
(01:19):
don't think we'll be seeing hercharacter make a recurring
appearance.
LA (01:23):
What happened? How did he
his heart get fixed? Though, I
can't remember, because he gotfixed.
Berly (01:28):
He got healed before they
figured out that it was the
Reaper, right? That's right, yeah. He Dean was healed by the
faith healer.
LA (01:37):
Oh, yeah, because he was
like, the last one to be healed,
right? Yes,
Berly (01:41):
next to last one, Dean
got healed, and then we saw the
faith healer heal someone else, because they did that. Really
cool. Cut to between two sceneswhere it showed the faith healer
healing the guy with emphysemaand the athletic jogger chick.
Okay, okay, it was good. Itwasn't one of my favorites, but
it was a good episode. Yeah, this week.
LA (02:04):
I take issue with this one.
Berly (02:06):
It was a little corny.
Yeah, it was a little cornyacting,
LA (02:09):
not so great. It was a
terrible
Berly (02:12):
but, yeah, we were
supposed not for not the guys
were fine, right? Well, Ithought the girl was fine too.
It's just her and her mom were alittle bit much. The chemistry
was off. Also, I did botheredme. I didn't believe this was
some grand lost love. She wasgorgeous, and I want her hair,
yeah, beautiful, and I didn'tmind her acting. It's just the
(02:33):
way the two charactersinteracted together. It felt
more sibling like to me than
LA (02:39):
romantic. Yeah, it was just,
it just wasn't there, yeah, for
what they were trying to conveywith, like, you said this long,
long lost love or whatever.
Like, no,
Berly (02:48):
right?
LA (02:49):
I'm not. I wasn't. I wasn't
buying it.
Berly (02:52):
So if that didn't get our
listeners excited to hear our
recap today, Whoopsie, Whoopsie, let's get into the recap of this
week's episode, which is route666,
LA (03:09):
we are it starts out in
Cape, Girardeau, Gerardo
gyarado, I don't know Missouri.
We're in Missouri. We see a guydriving down this road, and this
very large truck startsfollowing him,
Berly (03:26):
yeah, like, what's up?
What's the monster truck rallieswhere they go over, they drive
over other cars, yeah, up thehills, like, that big of a
truck,
LA (03:33):
yeah? So he's just, like,
aggressive with him, starts
ramming him in the
Berly (03:37):
back. Was very distraught
for this man, yeah. He was
obviously terrified.
LA (03:41):
Yeah, I would have been too.
So he ends up. This truck endsup running him off the road. He
smashes into him, pretty bad. Sobad that the back window, yeah,
and the trunks, trunk like open,it's blocked, yeah. But anyway,
eventually he gets run off theroad, goes over something, and
the car rolls, and he's gone,
Berly (04:02):
right? There was some
construction stuff there. That's
what it was. We find out lateron that there was a home there,
a historic home that had beenbulldozed. And it seemed like
maybe they were going to bebuilding something new
eventually, because at one pointthey're looking at blueprints
and stuff. So there was, like, some they didn't get give a very
clear shot of it, but some, like, barrels and construction
(04:22):
stuff or whatever. So he goesdriving off of that kind of goes
airborne and flips andeverything, yeah, it was bad. It
was very dramatic, yeah.
LA (04:30):
So needless say, he doesn't
make it, and we see the big old
truck just like, vanish.
Berly (04:35):
But first it went like,
LA (04:36):
oh, it was so aggressive. It
was like, lunging at him, yeah,
Berly (04:40):
it was, like, almost
animalistic, yeah. I
LA (04:43):
was like, this is, I mean, I
didn't like it. He made me
uncomfortable. Then we cut tothe boys. They're, they're
heading to Pennsylvania, butDean gets a call from an old
friend and needs their help, sono more Pennsylvania. Kenya.
They're headed to Missouri.
Apparently, this Cassie girl andDean had a history, and Sam is
(05:04):
into it. He wants that tea. He
Unknown (05:12):
is
LA (05:12):
giving his brother such a
hard time. It's adorable.
Berly (05:15):
You know, he owns rom
coms, like he's got several DVDs
of rom coms and stuff like that, probably, probably tried to set
up all his friends together. Heis way into Yeah, yeah.
LA (05:26):
So Cassie is at the police
station, or she's at the paper.
She works for the paper in thetown, and her and her brother,
or her dad's friend, are talkingto the mayor about, what, what,
what are we going to do aboutthis, like black men are are
disappearing on this road, youknow, or being killed or
whatever,
Berly (05:46):
because we found out this
is the second person, and we
also find out it was cassie'sdad, yeah. So there's now two
people who've been run off thisroad, and there's only one set
of tire marks, so they're justsaying, Oh, they just lost
control of the car, that's it.
And I remember Cassie describingbut they all had that dent, that
explainable. I'm like, dent, yeah, it was smashed. You call
(06:08):
that a dent? Yeah, this fuckingwindow got smashed out. He was
it was inverted. Yeah, y'all arecalling that dents, all right,
but yeah, there's now two peoplewho have been murdered in the
exact same stretch of road, yeah, but only one tire track
set. I said those words in thewrong order. That's okay, yeah,
(06:31):
y'all know what I meant. And sothey're going, Oh, we don't
know, yeah, they just lostcontrol. The
LA (06:39):
boys show up at the paper
after Cassie is done talking to
the mayor, and she's verydelighted to see Dean. It was
kind of awkward. Yeah, yeah. Shedid not acknowledge sweet Sam at
all. It's all about Dean. But
Berly (06:54):
Sam had this grin, this
little misty is grin on his face
whenever he saw them looking ateach other like he's watching
LA (07:01):
them intently. But he she
gets introduced to him. So the
three of them head to cassie'shouse, and she's just, she just
fills them in on that is thatwhen she talks about that there
were some murders back in the inthe day, or that's what, that's
what they were, their researchis, yeah,
Berly (07:18):
that's when we actually
hear her talking about how her
father was the second person, and that this is now a string of
things, and her dad was seeing atruck beforehand, and she's
giving them the tea while sheliterally serves them tea.
LA (07:37):
I didn't realize that. Well,
her cassie's Mom comes in, and
she is fucking flustered. Is amess, like I I mean, I don't
know what she had been doing, but she she was not having it.
Dean tried to talk to her. She'slike, No, I don't want to talk
right now. And she takes off. Itwas, it's very weird, very brief
(08:00):
appearance. But, man, I waslike, Good lord, what did? What
is wrong with her? I
Berly (08:05):
mean, understandably
upset her husband just died, but
yes, seemed very, almostfrantic.
LA (08:11):
Also, by the way, Cassie
didn't seem so upset about her
dad, like did cry once. I'd be amess. I'd be in bed, yeah, but I
mean, good for her, I guess
Berly (08:23):
she had to get that date.
Well,
LA (08:25):
that's true. Okay, so then
they go do their research, and
Sam discovers no not Sam. Deanand Cassie discover that back in
the 60s, there was a truck thatwas involved in the death of a
black man, and that, you know, back then, the town wasn't so it
Berly (08:47):
doesn't seem like a
progressive town already, so you
can imagine what it was likeback Yeah,
LA (08:52):
so. And then, while they're
there, Sam calls and mentions
that he's been out doing hisresearch and finds that they're
the land where all this is likehappening by was owned by this
Dorian family who basicallyowned like everything in town.
Dean looks it up and discoversthat the mayor recently bought
that land and Bulldog bulldozedthe Dorian house. So some for
(09:17):
some reason, in the article, italso mentioned that the the
second or the first killinghappened like the next day after
the the house was bulldozed. Inoticed
Berly (09:26):
that too. He pulled up
the article talking about the
house, and then he goes, thehouse was bulldozed on the third
and the murder happened the verynext day. And I'm like, it
talks, it talks about the murderin the right and that article,
because Sam told you it wasbulldozed on the third. What are
you reading? What is going on atthis paper, Cassie, did you
write that article?
LA (09:46):
Then we discover that there
has been a third murder now, and
we find out that. So it wascassie's dad and two of his
friends, and they're all blackmen. We I forgot to mention that
cassie's Mom is white. So theywere an interracial couple back
in the 60s, which, you know, didn't fly too well. Cassie Dean
(10:07):
and Sam all go to the site ofthe where the house was
bulldozed, and then the mayor'sthere, and they could kind of
confront him again. And they'relike, you know, this is the
third one now, like, clearly, they're being targeted. What are
you going to do about it? Andshe kind of accuses him of being
racist, and he makes thisstrange comment to her that he's
(10:28):
the last person that would beracist, and if and she should
ask her mother about that, right? Yeah, I was, I was like,
what?
Berly (10:35):
He had an attitude when
he said that too. He's a little
sassy. Hello. You are literallyat a crime scene where a man has
just died, you need to tone itdown, sir, check that
LA (10:45):
attitude. Yeah, yeah. Now we
are that evening, and Mr. Dean
shows up to cassie's house. Idon't know why. Well,
Berly (10:56):
he and Sam decided to
split up that Dean would go talk
to Cassie and try to figure outmore about how the three victims
are related, sure, and that Samwas going to dig more into the
Dorian family, I think it was,oh, okay, yeah, they decided to
split up. And Sam's like, yeah, you go, you go talk to Cassie.
(11:20):
Bro, do that.
LA (11:22):
And he does. He gets there,
and they almost, like,
immediately feel like, havetheir this little tiff, and
they're arguing, and it gets, Imean, I guess what you would
want to call heated. I don'tthink it really got there, but
that's obviously
Berly (11:38):
where they were trying to
go. Yeah, wham even said
beforehand, you guys clearlyhave unfinished business that
you need to resolve, or some hesaid something along those
lines,
LA (11:47):
well, and then Cassie, they
like, they both end up
apologizing, or aggressivelyapologizing to each other.
Berly (11:53):
I did like the backstory
that basically it was, Oh yeah,
yeah, because I told you, Iwould have jumped to the same
conclusion if I were her, right.
Basically, things were getting alittle serious. They were
getting really close. And thendean told her, Hey, my family
and I hunt ghosts. I have to gowith my dad. I'm sorry. And she
just came to the conclusion of,if you wanted to break up with
(12:17):
me, just break up with me. Whyare you making up this crazy
story? Yeah, for why you have toleave, yeah, which makes sense.
And so she dumped him, yeah, Iwas gonna say, so she ended it,
yeah, because she assumed that'swhat he was trying to do, and
just didn't have the balls to doit,
LA (12:34):
yeah, which I mean. So I, my
opinion, is that Cassie has been
thinking about Dean all theseyears, and she's been thinking
about Dane. She out of nowhere, just, like, very oddly, like,
just goes after him, kisses him,and the way she and, I mean,
immediately taking that jacketoff, yeah, and then they pull
(12:54):
away really awkwardly, and thengo back at it again. But the way
she did it, I was like, Oh,she's been wanting, she's been
waiting for this, wouldn't youthinking about it? Oh, first,
yeah, right, duh. Go for, Imean, I don't get I'm not I get
it.
Berly (13:10):
And then on a show that
so far, LA and I have been so
impressed with the musicchoices. Yeah,
LA (13:18):
really good. I
Berly (13:19):
love it. So good. This
was horrible, but this sex scene
song,
LA (13:23):
I I don't know what, who was
thinking that this would be a
good sexy song to have for a sexscene. I don't know what the
song was. It made it even moreawkward, like their lack of
chemistry, and then thisterrible song, like, I was so
disappointed
Berly (13:39):
the lighting, you
couldn't even see Dean's topless
body very well, yeah, because ofthe lighting. And there was a
lot of rubbing up and down thebaby petting, yeah, I actually
got up in the corner, yeah, andshowed LA. You remember when we
were kids, and we used to dothis and, like, put my arms
(14:00):
around myself. We'd pretend youwere making out with somebody,
and you when you'd move yourarms around and wiggle around,
that's very much what it made methink of definitely, I had high
expectations, me too, for thefirst sex scene. I was
disappointed. I wasdisappointed. Yes, it just was
all wrong. The afterglow scenewas cute.
Unknown (14:21):
Yeah, she was really
petting in that chest I would
have too. He has some greatkids, really rubbish, good
biceps and good pectorals. Yeah, isn't that what men like their
tits to be called pecks, yeah?
And oh, he's got good arms,Yeah,
Berly (14:34):
gotta go. He's gotta go.
Yeah.
LA (14:38):
So yeah, they're chit
chatting after the romp they
had, and Sam calls and tellsthem that the mayor has been
killed. They did show it, and hewas out on his land that he
bought when bulldozed, the house
Berly (14:54):
where he knows all these
murders are happening, by the
way, and he's out there byhimself with some blueprints.
Yeah, so I. Guess he wasplanning to build something, but
that's never addressed, right?
LA (15:03):
But you, I mean, you see,
like, the little, it's like,
roped off in areas and whatnot, and he goes back to his car,
throws the blue prints in, and,lo and behold, the racist truck
shows up.
Berly (15:15):
And he does not like this
white man. No, no, no, no,
which? And we're
LA (15:19):
like what? We're like, Whoa,
he's white. What's, what's,
what's wrong? What are youdoing?
Berly (15:24):
And how dare you not give
this white man a free pass. What
is wrong with you?
LA (15:32):
It's not, it's not, it's not
his. Mo, you know, right? So
he's taking a turn. He's He'schanging it up.
Berly (15:39):
The truck has taken a
turn. I see what you did there.
I see what you did there.
Anyway, he chases the Yeah,
LA (15:50):
the sweet old Mayor takes
off running, and the truck is
after him, and it's the oddestscene that he's I don't know if
the truck hit him. It lookedlike maybe it grazed him as he
was falling onto the ground. It
Berly (16:03):
looks like at one point
he was gonna run off the road,
but then the next shot, hewasn't off the road. And then he
was just like, oh yeah. It lookslike he tripped and fell, but
then he goes flying through theair and rolls over. And sure
enough, like, No, he did. He didnot just he is dead. His face is
fucked. Yeah. He looks like two.
Face. He's already like, pale.
Half his mouth is gone. He'salready pale and blood
LA (16:25):
coming from the nose. Glory
immediate. And I still, I still
don't understand. I
Berly (16:29):
don't understand how the
truck did that. How
LA (16:31):
did it do I don't, I don't.
I'm like, it didn't look like hehit him. He just tumbled down
the little road like anyway. ButI did. Did did you? Did you hear
them say that, like his, all ofhis bones were crushed and it
was like his body was liquefiedor, yeah, what is that? It made
Berly (16:49):
me think of that bug you
talked about in the bugs episode
where you said they somehowliquefy their praise insides so
they can suck everything outlike a smoothie. So
LA (17:00):
gross. Yeah, I guess maybe
that's what happened. So I guess
the boys take off. Cassie athome by herself, just sexy
walking around with her glass.
She's so skinny.
Berly (17:14):
Yes, I'm very definitely
early. 2000s the layered tank
tops, or the low rise,
LA (17:19):
super low, the
Berly (17:19):
tank tops that had the
little peekaboo right above the
poopa area.
LA (17:24):
I remember when I when she
was walking around, I was like,
how are those pants staying up?
They look like they're, like, one wrong move, and we're gonna
see things
Berly (17:31):
this episode. And skin,
skin, the friend, the college
friend she had, oh my god, shrugs on quite a bit. And the
ribbon necklace choker thing.
It's fun seeing the littleobviously, the flip phones and
stuff are very obvious, butyeah, it's fun whenever you get
to see some of that early 2000sfashion, definitely.
LA (17:53):
So anyway, I don't know.
She's just wandering around thehouse. Who knows doing what? And
the truck shows up, and he's,once again, aggressively lunging
at the house. For some reason, she decides to stay in the room
where he's surrounding the housein different places, and she
closes the shutters, becausethat's gonna stop him. That's
gonna help her, which I don't,I'm like, he's just like,
taunting her when he's in thishuge truck, and he totally could
(18:17):
have just ran rammed into thehouse, right?
Berly (18:21):
I've seen videos where a
car is driven through a house,
yeah,
LA (18:24):
and she's all upset, and
grabs the phone, and that's what
she does, and lo and behold,Dean, Dean and Sam come over,
Berly (18:39):
just so you know, If you
ever call me and just scream my
name twice into the phone, I amnot gonna know what to do to
help. Yeah, I won't know. I'd belike, What
LA (18:50):
the fuck what is going on?
FYI, I
Berly (18:53):
will need more
information. Yeah, for sure,
LA (18:56):
they decide it's time to
have a chit chat with Mama, and
she's there once again, verydramatically upset, with her
teacup in her hand, up up up toher face. And Dean asks her, or
I guess Cassie asks her aboutwhat the the mayor said.
Berly (19:15):
And she had asked how she
told Dean. She asked her before,
and she didn't want to talkabout it, and so they kind of
pressure her a little bit morenow to talk yeah. And at first,
Cassie tried to be like, I toldyou no. And then the mom goes,
Yes, like that, yeah.
LA (19:36):
And she very dramatically,
tells us the story that I don't
know the mom's name, but she, Iguess, back in the day, dated
Cyrus Dorian, and at the sametime, was dating cassie's Dad,
Martin. And Cyrus found outabout it, wasn't happy, and she
and Martin actually ended updeciding to get married in this
(19:58):
chapel in. In town, and thenight, I guess, that they were
going to get married, someoneset fire to the the cute little
church, and there was achildren's choir practicing
inside, and they all died, whichis awful,
Berly (20:13):
right? The mom said that
since they were interracial,
they didn't want to deal withthe drama. So basically, at the
last minute, they decided toelope instead. So that's why
they weren't at the church.
LA (20:23):
Exactly. Yeah, that night
their their wedding night,
somehow, Cyrus, I guess Cyrus, like, took Martin out or
something.
Berly (20:32):
I think he chased him
down, just like he did. Okay,
eventually, it just kind ofshowed the truck and him mark,
like, on a fee, it looked like afield or something. Yeah, Dorian
got a hold of Martin. Somehowhe's trying to beat his ass.
Yeah. He's
LA (20:43):
got, like, a bit, some long
stick beaten him, but Martin
kind of got the upper hand andgrabbed the stick from him and
beat him basically to death. Hecalls on his two friends who
come and help him. They putCyrus in the truck and push the
truck into the swamp, and theywould never talk about it again.
They all keep the secret allthese years, the mayor at the
(21:05):
time, was a police officer, andhe kind of caught wind and
figured out what happened, buthe kept his mouth shut and
didn't do anything because
Berly (21:14):
he knew Dorian was the
person who was killing all the
other black people and thestring of murders that was
mentioned toward the beginningat the end, yes, yeah.
LA (21:24):
So, I mean, I mean, they, he
kind of did the town a favor. It
sounds like, yeah. Anyway. Sothen the boys head to the swamp,
of course, because they've gotto dredge up this truck, because
we got to burn, burn those bonesalways salt and border always,
and the truck is blue, which thewhole episode. I'm like, That is
a black truck. It looks like ablack truck.
Berly (21:45):
Maybe the swamp, like,
made it change colors somehow,
yeah, I don't know.
LA (21:49):
It was like a anyway, they
pull the they pull Cyrus out and
lay, lay him on, I don't knowwhat, but they burn him up. I
Berly (21:57):
think it was the bed of
the truck, wasn't it? Was it?
No, because the truck was behindthem when they're doing it. Oh,
I don't know where they let themthen, but anyway, it was, it
wasn't the ground, it was up onsomething, yeah,
LA (22:07):
it was like, almost like a
grate of some kind, I don't know
Anyway, not important. And thetruck shows up, and Dean decides
he's going to take it on a ridewith his sweet car, because it's
not going to outrun that, youknow, then it gets very
actioned. It's the action startshappening and Dean, Dean takes
(22:29):
the truck. The truck's followinghim. Sam calls him on the phone,
and he pulls out a map, which Iwas like, What are we doing
here? I thought, I thought hewas supposed to be burning the
truck, because that's what Deantold him before he left.
Instead, he pulls out a map, andhe's asking Dean where he is,
and he's like, I need to knowexactly where you are which I'm
like, it's on a back road. Like, how's he gonna tell you that? So
(22:52):
he switches over and callsCassie. He's like, I need some
information. Switches back toDean and tells him, and luckily,
there's a sign that Dean cantell him where he is, and he
tells him to turn, and then hetells him to go seven, exactly
seven tenths of a mile and stop, which I'm like, what I was like,
No, how would you? How could hegage that? But if that happened
(23:16):
today,
Berly (23:16):
I would have been booked,
yeah, exactly my my odometer
does not look like that, no,
LA (23:20):
but he had the old school
little countdowns, countdown
rolling numbers, right, so hewas able to stop right when he
was supposed to. He was like,What do I do now? And Sam's
like, just do what you're doing.
Let him come to you. The truckcomes like, you think he's going
to ram into Dean's car and justlike, kill him or whatever. But
the car, the truck, like, breaksapart all over his car and goes
(23:42):
and just like, kind ofdisappears. And then we find
out, Sam tells him that he's atthe site of the church, and it's
hallowed ground, even if thechurch isn't there. And he was
hoping that, you know, if, ifthe truck went through there, it
would get destroyed. And Dean'slike, Okay, well, what if that
(24:02):
didn't happen? Sam's like, I wasjust hoping that wouldn't
happen.
Berly (24:09):
I gotta say, Sam. I
thought the highlight of this
episode was gonna be naked Dean, but the highlight of this
episode was Sam. He cracked me.
He was cute quite a bit in thisepisode, yeah, then we have to
go say our goodbyes, right? Deankind of insinuates that maybe
there's a future for him andCassie. And Cassie says
(24:31):
something like, the realist, yeah, that she she knows there's
not going to be, but he's like, you never know, yeah. And then
that great chemistry they have, you know,
LA (24:45):
the boys take off and leave
Cassie behind, and
Berly (24:49):
Sam kind of asked Dean
sometimes, have you ever thought
about, you know, giving it up sothat you can have a relationship
and have all these things? AndDean put on some Terminator
glasses, and. Just smiled. And Ithink he said, like, wake What
do you say? Yeah,
LA (25:03):
wake me up when I it's my
turn to drive right, yeah, and
that's that, that's that. But atleast Dean got some, you know,
Dean got late, yeah, I
Berly (25:13):
think it's probably been
a while. We got to see a more of
that nice bicep and clavicle andpectoral and nip slip, and that
was nice. He
LA (25:22):
has great lips.
Berly (25:24):
He has, yeah, we've
already said, I know a lot of
great things. I
LA (25:27):
just can't like every
episode. I'm like, Man, when's
Berly (25:29):
Sam gonna take his shirt
off? Right? Sleeping in T shirts
and shit? No bullshit. Cheer.
Padillacky. All right. Sogoriest thing to happen in this
episode was the mayor and hisface. Oh, my god, yeah. And of
course, you know, the beatingwasn't gory, but it could be
triggering violence. Yeah, alittle bit, so not too much
(25:50):
gore. The bear's face wasdefinitely unexpected. So let's
go into the lore. So I don'tknow about you. Okay, hold
LA (26:01):
on. I was just gonna say,
I'm I wrote when we were first
watching this. Are we reallytalking about a racist truck? Is
that? What's going on here? Iwas like, Okay, we're getting a
little far fetched here.
Berly (26:15):
Little little campy,
little little campy, yeah, for a
very serious topic, yes. Oh, I
LA (26:20):
also put that Cassie was
real. DTF,
Berly (26:24):
wouldn't you be?
LA (26:25):
I know I was. I mean, no,
no,
oh, my God, that's not what Imeant to say at
Berly (26:37):
all. Okay, on to the lore
again with our lore, what we try
to look for if is if there areany real life, real world things
that inspired the supernaturalthings? Yeah, in the episode. So
(26:57):
there were two things that Ithought of while I was watching
this episode. One, not so muchsupernatural, but the first
definitely real, and that issundown towns, which my ignorant
ass didn't know about untilsomewhat recently, when we
watched Lovecraft century. Yeah,yeah, man,
LA (27:17):
I between that and watchmen
and stuff, I'm like, I was, I'm
still, I'm sure I'm stillignorant to a bunch of stuff,
but I was just like, Man, whydid I ever learn about this
stuff?
Berly (27:27):
Exactly, so for those of
you who may not know, sundown
towns were all whitemunicipalities, I say were, but
unfortunately, there's probablysome that still exist, or
neighborhoods in the US thatpractice a form of racial
segregation by excluding nonwhites via some combination of
discriminatory local laws, intimidation or violence. So
(27:51):
they will literally Chase blackpeople out of town. Basically
say, if you're here aftersundown, we're going to get you
the term came from signs postedthat quote, unquote, colored
people had to leave town bysundown. And we saw in Lovecraft
country the HBO series, whichwas based on a book written by
(28:13):
Matt ruff that Atticus Freeman, tick, tick, good. I'll tick,
play medicine, played byJonathan majors, yum. He is in a
car, and he gets pulled over inJim Crow America. So it's like
1950s and he's looking for hisdad and all this other kind of
stuff that I won't go into, buthe gets pulled over by a police
(28:34):
officer who basically informsthem you're in sundown country
and threatens to lynch them ifthey don't leave the county
before sundown. Also, like,
LA (28:45):
how fucked up is it that?
Like, okay, cool, you're justfree to, like, murder somebody
after sundown and you're notgonna get in trouble for it.
Back then, anyway, it's, it's
Berly (28:56):
insane to think about.
But back then, there were peoplewho didn't even consider black
people people, it's just andagain, unfortunately, there are
people who still feel that waytoday, as I have found out more
and more and more in the past, almost decades since the 2016
election, more and more peoplejust keep showing their asses,
showing who they are. Anyway.
(29:22):
They also have, you know, theGreen Book, the Negro Motorist.
Green Book is in sundown andthen we know Green Book and
things like that. So sundownTowns was definitely something
that came to mind while I waswatching this episode. Yeah, I
obviously wasn't featured orwhat have you, but I feel like
it had to have been part of theinspiration for the episode.
(29:43):
Yeah. Well, I
LA (29:43):
mean, all of them happened
at night on that road, so
exactly
Berly (29:47):
and literally being
chased down by a racist truck,
by a racist truck, I couldn'thelp but think of sundown towns,
very aggressive racist truck.
Yes, the animalistic things theydid to the truck. Yeah, it was.
Little corny, but I also thoughtit was creative to make the
truck more menacing. Yeah?
LA (30:04):
Because I, like I said, it
made me uncomfortable. Yeah?
Berly (30:09):
So the second thing I
thought of, and probably most
obvious, especially for anyoneour age watching this episode,
is Stephen King's Christine.
LA (30:19):
Oh, yeah, I have never seen
that. I mean, I know I get, I
know what you're referencing andhow, how it relates. But yeah,
which was
Berly (30:26):
a book first? Yeah, there
was a movie adaptation, however.
And it basically tells the storyof a car who was apparently who,
which was apparently possessedby malevolent supernatural
forces. So it's a killer car, according to digital publisher
fine medium and broad, this 1983novel is based on a real car.
(30:51):
Oh, really, yes, okay, thecursed automobile known as the
Golden Eagle was a 1964 dodge330 limited edition, which I
Googled, and it looks reallycool. Ooh. It was originally
purchased to be a patrol car inOld Orchard Beach. Maine, all
(31:17):
three officers who drove thecursed sedan prematurely died,
oh, not in the line of duty, butby suicide after murdering their
own families. All three, allthree. Oh, shit, the Dodge
LA (31:35):
was there a timeline there
of when all that went down.
Berly (31:38):
It wasn't covered. It
wasn't covered in this article.
But when I googled the name ofthe car, the 1964 dodge 330
limited edition, all of a suddenI couldn't find it. When I was
looking for Cursed car, killercar, ghost car, I only found
this one article. But thenwhenever I Googled 1964 dodge
(31:58):
330 limited edition, all of asudden, there's all these
articles about this specificcar. Oh, wow. So if you want to
know a timeline, I would suggestgoogling that the 1964 dodge 330
limited edition to get moreinformation. Okay, but the Dodge
was sold to an elderly local whosold it to the Allen family,
(32:21):
according to current owner,Wendy Allen, the Allens never
directly suffered under thecurse of the Golden Eagle,
except that the doors would flymysteriously open when they
drove it on the highway.
LA (32:36):
Holy oh my god,
Berly (32:40):
the cursed vehicle did
take the lives of several kids
who were hit by other cars, flewthrough the air and landed under
the wheels of the Dodge. Whatapparently okay and another
child who foolishly touched thecar would die, along with their
(33:00):
entire family. Two weeks later,in a house fire, they were
suspected of starting damnthroughout the 80s and 90s,
members of local churches, fearing the car was possessed by
evil demons vandalized the caronly to die shortly afterwards,
(33:21):
including one who was struck bylightning and one who was
decapitated by a big rig.
LA (33:28):
Oh, my good man. Eventually,
Berly (33:32):
the good church folks
stole the car, chopped it into
pieces and scattered its cursedremains across several area
junkyards the Allens weresupposedly able to collect
enough of the pieces to put theDodge back into working order,
hence how there's a currentowner right now. Why? Yeah,
(33:55):
since the rebuild, the GoldenEagle hasn't reportedly taken
any more lives, but the doorsstill fly open when the Allens
are on the freeway.
LA (34:08):
I hope those seat belts are
good, right? Wow, that's crazy.
Berly (34:17):
Sam, yeah, Sundance towns
and a real killer car possessed
is the closest I could get toLaura on this. To close it out,
we're going to quote Sam when hewas reminiscing about simpler
times being away at college, andhe said I missed conversations
(34:40):
that didn't start with quotethis killer truck. Cheers,
cheers.
LA (34:45):
Oh, Sam,
Berly (34:47):
thank you for listening
to denim wrapped nightmares.
LA (34:50):

Berly (34:57):
was fun,
