Berly (00:01):
Music. Welcome to denim
wrapped nightmares, Tipsy
exchange Podcast where weexplore the supernatural series,
episode by episode,
LA (00:10):
over drinks, we'll discuss
the lore the gore and what we
adore about the Winchesters andtheir adventures.
Berly (00:17):
I'm Burleigh and I'm a
new fan of the series.
LA (00:20):
I'm LA, and I'm here. Long
for the ride. Now let's get
tipsy. Hello, LA, hello Burly.
Berly (00:28):
Last week's episode was
kind of weird. Yeah,
LA (00:31):
I feel like it didn't really
match with a lot of the other
ones, because it wasn't reallysuper natural.
Berly (00:37):
Yeah, it was just crazy.
It just was kind of out ofplace. It was just crazy people.
I don't recall anythinghappening that really moved the
story forward either. I mean, unless maybe that Sheriff comes
into play later on in theseries. I
LA (00:52):
doubt it. Yeah. I
Berly (00:53):
doubt it, yeah. Well,
let's remind our listeners where
we were last week. Since it'sbeen you know, we've all slept
since then?
LA (01:00):
Oh, yeah. Well, we were in
Minnesota, a little boy saw this
dude being dragged under a car.
The boys came and talked to himand said it was some weird
howling, growling sound thatcame that happened when the guy
was dragged under. They're at abar doing the research. Sam gets
trapped or taken trapped. Hegets taken, and we see him, and
(01:20):
he's in a big old cage. Deanenlists the deputy of the town
to help him find Sam. Theybasically find out that these,
this family is like capturingpeople and then like feeding
them and then releasing them tobasically hunt them, and what is
assumed eat them? Yeah,
Berly (01:42):
it's not confirmed. Yeah,
that's what we think it was.
Yeah, I think they were makingsausage and feeding it to their
victims too. Yeah,
LA (01:52):
gross, nasty, yeah. Well,
this
Berly (01:55):
week we start off in
Chicago, yeah, and there is a
young girl, really hip, verytrendy. She had on, like, a
sequin scarf. Do you rememberthose scarves that were really
like, around Avril, Lavignetime, I
LA (02:11):
think, like a thick necklace
choker? Yeah,
Berly (02:15):
we were wearing, we were
wearing neckties and really
skinny scarves that did nothingto keep you warm, right? Just
fashion. It was just fashion. Soshe has on that and her low rise
jeans and her jackets, and she'sgot her headphones and her iPod,
and she's walking down thestreet being fabulous, and as
she turns and goes down analley, her iPod goes dead, and
(02:37):
so she's like, fucking with it,and it's like, what the hell.
And then the wind picks up, andshe's all of a sudden spooked
and like, Oh fuck. And kind ofstarts trying to run. And then
we see this. It's very quick, but there's this shadow figure
that kind of goes up the side ofthe building. It's big. It was
really big. It was very muchgiving me vibes of Bram Stoker's
(02:57):
Dracula.
LA (02:58):
Oh yeah, you
Berly (02:59):
know the big shadow that
would move differently from Gary
Oldman on the wall. It was, itwas very big shadow figure up
the wall. But she gets into herapartment, turns off her alarm,
locks the door, bolts the door, resets the alarm, and just like,
Okay, fabulous again, I'mwonderful. She goes into her
(03:19):
kitchen, gets a beer, and islistening to her answering
machine. Her voicemails on heranswering machine. She's very
popular. She lots of messages, yeah. And as she's sitting there
listening, a shadow figure comescreeping in to the apartment,
and it we can see the shadow onthe wall, and it attacks her
(03:39):
shadow on the wall, and then weget our third blood splooge of
the series as blood splattersall over the wall. And we don't
quite know what's happened, butwe know what ain't good. Yeah, a
week passes, and Sam and Daneshow up. They're coming to
Chicago, and guess what? We gotanother costume? Yeah, I didn't
(04:01):
really think we'd get anotherone when I was saying, I hope we
would, but we did not jumpers.
What are they? Well, the otherjumpers, they're pretending to
be with the security system, thesecurity system repairman, or
something like that. So theywere gonna be plumbers. At
first, I did too. I was tryingto figure out. I was really
trying to read what the patchessaid, like, you could see their
name patches pretty clearly, butI was trying to see what the
(04:23):
other one said. And yeah, Icould have thought plumber with
the utility belts that they hadon and all of that. Yeah, this
fabulous landlady, yeah, isworking to help them, and she's
explaining that the place waslocked, the alarm was set.
Basically, was like, yourcompany fucking sucks. She got
murdered anyways, and that thereason they found the body was
(04:46):
because the smell, becauseeveryone assumed nothing was
wrong, because there was nosigns of entry, no signs of
anything.
LA (04:55):
The I liked her when she was
she was talking about their
alarm was about as useless as a.
Tits on a man, yeah,
Berly (05:02):
which Speak for yourself,
depending on the tits and
depending on the man. Oh, myGod, they're talking with the
landlady. She lets them knowthat Meredith's body was all
over the place. Yeah. She said,if I didn't know better, I would
have thought a wild animal gotin here. After talking with them
(05:22):
for a little bit, she leavesthem to look around. And Sam is
saying, I think this is our gig.
There's something mysteriousgoing on here. And Dean pulls
out his little EMF thing, andSam has the gadget that we saw.
Oh, yeah, the new one. Yeah, thenew there weren't any green
lasers coming out of it. Thistime, though, they pick up EMF.
So they're going, okay, is thisa spirit? Because they were
(05:46):
originally saying werewolf, andSam said, No, it's not the right
moon phase or something likethat, trying to figure out what
it is. And they're leaningtowards spirit. Dean is also
talking about his friend withthe police that he checked in
with, and he was talking abouthow she had, oh yeah, a tramp
stamp and all this other kind ofstuff. So we know what kind of
friend this must be. And he saidthat the papers have left out
(06:09):
the most important part, whichis that her heart was missing.
Yeah, next up, they decide tomap out all the blood stains all
over the floor because it seemsto be making a pattern, yeah? So
they get out some masking tape,
LA (06:26):
no gloves. Dean, gross.
Berly (06:28):
I mean, they're putting
their hands. It is dried, weak
old blood. But still, it waskind of gross that they're just
in this scene doing that. Why isthe blood still there? Why has
it not been cleaned? Yeah?
Because I think it was like arug. Like, yeah, throw the rug
out. What is happening here? Butanyway, they like, map it out
with masking tape, and theydiscover a symbol. They don't
recognize the symbol at all. Ithought it was about to be like
(06:51):
the Stussy S. Do you rememberthat? Oh, my god, yeah.
Everybody used to draw all thetime. Seemed like it was going
that direction, but it fellshort. So it was not the Suzy s,
but they don't recognize thesymbol. Later on, they're going
to a bar, and it's the sameplace with Meredith worked, and
they're kind of casing thejoint, talking to people. This
is actually the second murder intwo months. Very similar, same
(07:13):
thing, locked doors, heart, missing, all this stuff. So
they're talking to people tryingto find out more about what
happened to Meredith, andthey're kind of comparing notes
about the two victims. And asfar as they can tell, there's
nothing in common. Yeah, noconnection. Yeah, there's they
say something about how the onlyuseful information they're
getting so far is that Dean gotthe bartenders number. While
(07:35):
they're chatting, Sam looks overand he sees a familiar face. Oh
yeah. So Dean is talking, andSam literally just gets up and
walks off.
LA (07:49):
She's like, in a trance
walking over there. Yeah. Dean
is kind of like,
Berly (07:53):
What the fuck? And Sam
just walks right on by and goes
and talks to Meg, the cuteblonde with the pixie haircut
from the episode titledScarecrow, yeah, who he had met,
uh, while he was hitchhiking, yeah. And then they both ended
up at the same bus station andbonded there, talking about
(08:14):
their families and all that. Andshe had told him she was going
to California, so it's kind of asurprise to find her in Chicago
well, and
LA (08:22):
she was the one that, at the
end of the episode, like, sliced
a man's throat and used hisblood to make a call,
Berly (08:27):
right? So we, the
audience, know, don't trust.
Meg, she's
LA (08:31):
not good. Shut
Berly (08:32):
up. Meg,
LA (08:33):
I put because she like
starts dogging on Dean for how
he treats Sam. And I was like, know your place. Meg, know your
place,
Berly (08:44):
yeah. And Sam says, What
are you doing here? I thought
you were going to California.
And I think she said somethingalong the lines of, like, I
went, I saw, I conquered, I metChad, Michael Murray, you know,
and now I'm here. Basically, shedoesn't really explain it very
much after berating Dean, as Lajust said, basically saying,
What the fuck are you doing, dragging Sam around all over.
(09:04):
Let him do what he wants. Deangetting pissy and going to flirt
with the bartender some more, get a drink or something. Sam
goes ahead and gets her phonenumber and Meg is DTF for sure.
Yeah, she is definitely saying, hit me up.
LA (09:21):
She said, We should hook up.
Berly (09:22):
We should hook up. I'll
show you a good time, like DTF,
when they leave, Sam isimmediately going, something's
fucked up. Something's notright. It's just weird. It's too
big of a coincidence that I'mgonna meet her again. And Dean
is going, Who is that bitch? Whois she? What
LA (09:40):
did you say about me to her?
Why
Berly (09:42):
does she think? Is that
how you feel? Getting very
defensive. Feel like Dean'sDean, Dean, Dean,
LA (09:49):
is much more sensitive than
he lets on. Oh, he's
Berly (09:53):
just a big little, little
teddy bear underneath it all.
Sam said something along thelines of how something was just
off and he couldn't put. Fingeron it. And Dean was like, or do
you want? Do you want to putyour finger on it some sort of
innuendo? Yeah, because in thebar, Sam was kind of teasing
with Dean that he thinks toomuch with little Dean and not
(10:15):
enough with his brain. And soDean was saying, maybe you need
to stop thinking so much withyour brain and start thinking a
little more with you know? AndSam is not having it. He's like,
No, something's something'sfucked up, something's weird.
However, rather than askingbrother Dean to do the stakeout
and keep an eye out on somebody,as it would normally go, right,
(10:37):
Sam normally does the research.
Dean is the tail or whateverneeds to be going on? No, no,
no. Sam says, Dean, you, you godo the research.
LA (10:49):
He's like, I got this one,
bro,
Berly (10:50):
yeah, you go find out if
Meg masters from, I think it was
Ohio or something I don'tremember, is a real person. See
what's going on here. What thefuck is happening? Check it out.
And I'm gonna keep an eye onher. And Dean's like, Yeah,
okay. And Sam took the Impala, yeah, it
LA (11:08):
was like, almost like, wait
a minute, when I saw him driving
it by himself.
Berly (11:12):
Dean is researching
everything. He finds out there
is a meg masters in Ohio. Heeven found her high school
picture. So they're saying, okay, Meg checks out, and Dean
found the symbol, which we'llget into that in a little bit.
Sam is scoping out, watchingMeg. She's undressing in front
(11:34):
of the window, and a pedestrianwalking by calls him a pervert.
And then Meg leaves. So sheleaves the bar, goes home,
changes in front of a window, and then leaves again to go to
this weird abandoned building inthe middle of downtown Chicago.
I want to say it was like a bankor something. The elevator was
(11:55):
kind of fancy. I felt like therecap that I'm kind of
referencing here and there.
Calls it an abandoned factory, but it did not give factory
vibes to me. Yeah, no, it wasmore like an office building or
a bank or something like that, but it did have an elevator in
the middle that had one of thosecage doors that you have to pull
shut. Yes, so Sam follows Meginto the building. There's a
(12:18):
door that goes to stairs, butit's got a keypad on it, and he
tries to open it, and it'slocked. So then he goes to the
elevator shaft and starts toscale up the elevator shaft,
because it's all like it's a seethrough shaft. It's just iron
bars or something. He gets up tothe floor where Meg is, and he
must have some excellent lowerbody strength, because he's just
(12:42):
hanging out in this elevatorshaft, yeah, standing on who
knows what, watching Meg doingwhat obviously appears to be
some sort of ritual. She's gother little cauldron thing, and
she's talking to somebody again, and she doesn't say Father. This
time, she says yes, sir, whenever they're telling her to
leave them alone and not hurtthem or what have you, after she
(13:06):
leaves, Sam climbs out of theelevator shaft and goes and
checks out the altar. And Ithink you said that you thought
you saw one of the hearts. Theywere both thing, yeah, but so
both the hearts are there, andthe same symbol that they found
with the masking tape was onthere as well. When Sam gets
back and lets Dean know thatsymbol is there, Dean is
(13:27):
explaining that you say theword, what is it? Uh, what Zoras
LA (13:35):
Zoroastrian,
Berly (13:36):
zoastrian symbol, and he
lets Sam know that Meg checked
out, but Sam's like, no, Meg didnot check out. She was doing
some weird shit at the altar inthis abandoned building. The
other thing that Dean found outis that the two victims were
both from Lawrence, Kansas, which we know that's where Sam
(13:57):
and Dean are from. So there's aconnection now, not only between
the two victims, but aconnection to Sam and Dean as
well, right? So Dean decidesit's all hands on deck. I'm
calling daddy. Mm, hmm, ofcourse, daddy doesn't answer the
phone. Never does, never, neverdoes. So Dean leaves a voicemail
(14:18):
message gives him the address ofthe abandoned warehouse
building, whatever it was whereSam found Meg, and basically
tells him, you know, we coulduse your help. Yeah. Then Sam
comes over, and they're doingall this stuff with their guns.
They're cleaning them. They'rejust like taking them apart and
putting them together, and justa lot of phallic hand gesturing
(14:40):
going on, and there's a lot oftension,
LA (14:43):
and they're like, are you
nervous? No, no.
Berly (14:45):
Are you nervous? No, no,
no, not at all. And then Sam
kind of starts to think, What ifwe get the demon that killed
mom? What if this is it, andwe're done? And he kind of
thinks, Oh, I could go back to.
College, I could get my lifeback. And Dean does not like
this. No, no, no. He says you'dgo back to school. He's, like,
(15:06):
offended, personally offended.
And Sam's says, you know, whatwould you be doing? And Dean
basically is, like,
LA (15:14):
they're never over. Yeah,
there's
Berly (15:16):
still shit to hunt.
There's still monsters outthere. There's things other than
this demon. So I'm gonna keepdoing Dean. Gonna keep doing
what Dean going to do? It'sreally funny that last week I
mentioned how, you know, thewhole wincest ship thing. Yeah,
I'm not a shipper, but I I'veseen things in the show now that
kind of make me go, okay. Imean, I understand how you
(15:38):
decided to do that, not mything, but whatever. It's
fictional characters after houseof the Dragon this year. Who am
I to judge? Right? But thisepisode, though, I wish you had
LA (15:53):
never told me about it,
because now I can't unsee what I
saw today in this episode, their
Berly (16:00):
little argument was very,
I mean, I can't say romantic,
but just the tension. And itwas,
LA (16:08):
like, romantically tense,
yeah, like, that's what the
tension was. It wasn't like, like, it's a very odd. It was
not even the conversation, perse. It was the way they played
it
Berly (16:22):
like the tension they
were trying to build between
Dean and Cassie back in route666, yeah, that didn't happen.
That tension happened in thisscene between Dean and Sam,
yeah, for whatever reason itdid. It just did. Yeah.
LA (16:39):
I just the longing looks the
Dean holding on to the dresser
and then slowly turning aroundto look at Sam. I mean, I just
want us to be together. I And,like I said, I feel like, even
if you hadn't told me that, Istill would be like a little
what is going on? What ishappening? Yeah,
Berly (17:00):
this seems, and I
understand it's a fantasy, sci
fi, paranormal, scary drama, like I get, there's going to be
dramatic scenes, yeah, but yeah, the drama in this one, just like
I said, I think that what theywere going for between Cassie
and Dean was what we sawdemonstrated in this little,
LA (17:20):
yeah, little, I think, yeah,
definitely.
Berly (17:23):
Anyway, their little
conversation ends with Sam
basically telling Dean that if Idecide to go, you have to let me
go. Yeah, you don't own me. No,he
LA (17:35):
just wants to keep his baby
bro clothes look after him. Are
Berly (17:39):
we sure that's all he
wants. Okay, yeah, they pack up
all their shit. Dean has thiscool, like, Hawkeye armband
thing on his forearm. I don'tknow what that is. I don't think
it ever came into play, but Ifelt the need to point it out
that I saw this. I think maybe
LA (17:58):
that's where he had that
little knife. Oh, maybe, like it
was huddled on there orsomething. Maybe, maybe they
Berly (18:04):
go to the factory
together, and they scale up the
elevator together, and Meg is inthere doing her ceremony. And
this time, they don't wait forher to leave. They go ahead and
climb out onto the floor and gohide behind some boxes with
their guns. Now I imagine theyhad to have been making some
noise, right? That's what I wasthinking. They're carrying all
that shit. They've got theirweapons, those iron chains and
(18:27):
iron gate and stuff. Like, surely they made some noise.
Yeah, that didn't come across onthe screen. So I guess they were
stealthily quiet somehow. ButMeg still heard them. She
basically is like, guns really, come on. She tells them, you
know, come on out. So they do,and she's got the davas there,
(18:49):
and they attack Sam, fuck up hisbeautiful face.
LA (18:53):
You were so upset. Not a
money maker guys, come on.
Knocks
Berly (18:58):
them both unconscious,
like they get knocked the fuck
out very quickly when they cometo we've got tied up Winchesters
again. I haven't been keepingcount, but I know we've seen
them tied up several times sofar in our supernatural journey,
and Meg is taunting them, alsositting on their laps and
(19:21):
flirting with them again. Meg isDTF, it's very clear. And she
definitely had a preference. Shedefinitely was more into SAM, oh
yeah, as She's flirting with Samand trying to, like, really get
get things going, licking necks, and his long neck on display
again and all that Riley's allbloody. Really, really trying to
(19:44):
get into it. She hears a noise, and it turns out Dean has a
little knife, like LA was sayingearlier. Maybe it was in his
little forearm thing. Who knows?
So she goes over to Dean, you'retrying to distract me, and then
goes crawling back over to. Samand gets on his lap again and is
trying to go for it with Samagain. And Sam is basically, you
know, he wasn't distracting or Iwasn't distracting you because
(20:09):
he had a knife. He wasdistracting you because I have
one too, or something like that.
Yeah, some sort of exchangehappens like that. So Sam
managed to get himself cut freeduring this whole back and
forth. Who's she gonna try andfuck banter, and then he
headbutts Meg, yeah. And I wouldjust like to say thank you for
(20:29):
reacting to a headbutt. How aperson would react having given
a headbutt like it would hurtthe person who had butted too.
Yeah? And most of the time, people will Headbutt and just
act like everything's cool. Itwould hurt you too.
LA (20:40):
Oh, yeah.
Berly (20:41):
I mean, come on, they get
up and during all of this whole
thing, during all theconversations and all the
talking and everything, Meg hasrevealed that this was a trap.
But it wasn't a trap for Sam andDean, right? And they realized
it was a trap for daddy, BigDaddy Winchester. When Sam gets
(21:02):
away, he goes over and he knocksover the black altar, just some
shit up, and the Davis go crazyand attack Meg, drag her over
and throw her out the window, soit appears that Meg is dead.
Whenever Sam and Dean get backto their hotel room, who's in
the window? Daddy, Daddy, Daddy.
Winchester's there, and he looksso good. He's so happy to see
(21:26):
them, too. John Winchester istelling them that he got to the
abandoned building just in timeto see Meg come flying out the
window, and he assumed that wasthe bad guy, and the boys would
be heading back to their hotelroom anyway, so that's why he
was there. Yeah, and they'rehaving this sweet little reunion
and talking, and he's explaininghow, you know, he's getting
(21:50):
closer to the demon every day,and that he's not just gonna
exercise the demon. He's notjust gonna send it back to hell.
He's gonna fucking kill it. Andhe doesn't know how he's gonna
do that yet, but he knows he'sgoing to do it, and he thinks
the demon knows that he's goingto figure out how to do it too,
and that that's why he's tryingto get him, trying to trap him,
or do whatever it is that he'strying to do. And while they're
(22:10):
talking, all of a sudden theyget fucked up. And it turns out
the Davis are in there, and theyare really going for Oh daddy.
Well, more so for daddy. Ohyeah, they
LA (22:22):
threw him in the little
Yeah.
Berly (22:23):
They're really trying to
get at daddy, scraping daddy up,
fucking daddy up. And if Sam andDean were trying to get over to
come and help him, that's whenthey'd get knocked back and
knocked away, like away from thedad. And then we see outside,
Meg's alive. She's still kickingand she's fucking around with
some amulet necklace thingaround her neck. So it wasn't
(22:44):
the altar that she was using tocontrol them, after all, it was
all just for show, just to catchthem when they were completely
off guard and vulnerable andhaving this emotional moment
like she planned all that shit.
Yeah, that bitch, Sam finds aflare or something. I don't know
exactly what it was. He startsyelling at everybody, close your
eyes. These are shadow monsters.
(23:07):
I'm gonna light them up. Lightthem up. And so he lights up the
room. It was bright as fuck, yeah. And there was smoke. So
they have to escape the hotelroom. So they get outside.
They're coughing, they'rerecuperating. They are all kinds
of beat up. Sam and Dean bothhave scratches all over their
beautiful little faces. It'sjust not fun for the
(23:27):
Winchesters. And then, to makethings even worse, Dean tells
John, you can't come with us.
Yeah, because Meg basically toldus, we're your weakness, and if
we're together, you're going tobe vulnerable and they're after
you. And then Sam is not happy.
No. He says, fuck that. Weshould stick together. And John
(23:49):
looks at Sam and says, You haveto let me go, which kind of
mirrors back to what happened inthe weird sexual tension scene,
yeah, where Sam was tellingDean, you have to let me go. So
that clicked with Sam, and herealized he was right that he
had to let him go. So JohnWinchester leaves. He goes and
gets in his truck, and thebrothers watch him drive away.
(24:12):
Then they get in the Impala, andthey drive away as well. And as
they are all leaving, we see Megwatching them as they go, Yeah,
so we've not seen the last ofMeg, nope. And that was the
episode shadow,
LA (24:31):
beautiful, yeah,
Berly (24:34):
I liked this one. Yeah,
it
LA (24:35):
was good, well. And I mean,
I always like it when the dad
shows up, yeah.
Berly (24:41):
We always like it when
all of the Winchesters are
making an appearance. Yes,
LA (24:45):
they're all just so good
look.
Berly (24:46):
They're all so pretty.
Oh, so good. I like Meg too.
LA (24:51):
I do too. Yeah,
Berly (24:52):
I like her even though
she's bad, she's bad and she's
slutty, and I like her. I likeher a lot. What? So I'm happy
that Meg's gonna be making anappearance again. Yeah, no.
Cringy, clinchy, wincing, anyGore of that sort today. I mean,
the scratches and stuff weren't,weren't pretty to look at, but
(25:15):
they were still attractive, though, even with their faces
cut off and everything, I'dstill take it. Clean them up,
though? Oh, well, yeah, cleanthem up. Get some butterfly
stitches on them or something.
So
LA (25:25):
she was open wounds. Meg was
just like, ready to get, like,
be kissing on that bloody Dad.
What's wrong?
Berly (25:32):
She did not Well, I think
she basically said she's a demon
or something. They saidsomething about go to hell or
whatever. And she said somethingabout how that's right, she's
already been there or something.
So I think she, I think she's ademon or something, okay, and
that the person she's beentalking to that's been telling
her no and all that, that's thedemon John Winchester is
hunting. So I think that's herdemon daddy. So I think she must
(25:52):
be a demon too. Okay, theyhaven't come out and said that,
but that's what I assumed. Yeah, seems like it, yeah, but yeah, I
really liked this one. Verygood. As far as the lore goes. I
know you had a heavy lift thisweek. Well,
LA (26:07):
I mean, I'm not, it's going
to be probably pretty short and
sweet, like there's just so muchto it, because it's super the
devas are super old. They'rebasically a Zoroastrian
supernatural entity withdisagreeable characteristics.
Berly (26:24):
What's Zoroastrian? Like?
You knew what that was as soonas the episode said the word,
I've never heard that before.
What is it? It's
LA (26:31):
like one of the oldest
religions. It's, um, it's like
one of the, it's the world'sold, one of the, okay, one of
the world's oldest organizedfaiths. And it's based on the
teachings of the Iranianspeaking Prophet zoraster Zoro
Zoroaster, okay, I mean, that's,I don't want to go. I could go
(26:52):
on and talk a lot aboutZoroastrianism, but anyway,
basically, the devas are, oh, Ialready said that.
Berly (26:58):
Are they shadow, Shadow
monsters or whatever. It
LA (27:01):
doesn't really say anything
about what they look like. Oh,
well, she hang on.
Berly (27:05):
She did say in the show
that they aren't the shadow
monsters, that they areinvisible and the shadows are
just their shadows. Oh, okay, soI guess that makes sense.
LA (27:17):
Yeah, like, we had a bunch
of stuff, but it didn't really
say anything about what theylook like, just what they
represent, basically.
Berly (27:25):
And this show, they made
me think of ghost and the Little
Shadow Demons that come andtake, oh yeah, take people to
hell whenever they die. In thatPatrick Swayze movie,
definitely, I can see that thatwas scared me so much when I was
a kid,
LA (27:38):
one of the oldest
Zoroastrian cannons says that
the devas are gods that are tobe rejected, and this means like
it's subject to interpretation.
But it's also evident in the oldPersian Deva inscription of the
fifth century BCE.
Berly (27:56):
It's old, yeah,
LA (28:00):
in the younger Avesta, the
devas are divinities that
promote chaos and disorder, andthen in later traditions and
folklores, they're kind ofreferenced as dues, which is,
this is from the Zoroastrianmiddle Persia, new Persia divs.
It's a lot going on. Yeah. Theyare the personifications of
(28:20):
every imaginable evil. So I'mwondering, I'm guessing, maybe
that's what's going on on theshow.
Berly (28:26):
Maybe I don't know
LA (28:30):
Anyway, over time, the Daeva
myth, they call it a myth, but
it but, you know, it was part oftheir that religion, but this is
time gone.
Berly (28:38):
Yeah, people call demons
and angels myths, yeah.
LA (28:43):
So over time, the Deva myth,
as div like from the Persian one
I was talking about, it actuallybecame integrated, integrated
into Islam, the Islam religion.
So in contrast to like Indianreligions, Hinduism, Buddhism,
where the Devas there belong tothe category of divine beings or
gods, the Zoroastrianismreligion devas belongs,
(29:04):
obviously, as we said, to thecategory of evil beings or evil
spirits. Okay, so that'sbasically what they are,
Berly (29:11):
specifically in
Zoroastrian right? They're bad,
evil embodiment of pure evilspirits. But we don't know what
they look like. And so the showjust decided to make them
invisible. Yeah, okay. Now,
LA (29:23):
I mean, there may be others
there. I did find this thesis on
them, a whole thesis somebodyhad written. And, I mean, I we'd
have to have, like, a wholepodcast over that, because it
goes, I mean, it goes all overthe place. But anyway, there's
also equivalents of them inIranian languages were like
Pashto, Balochi, Kurdish, andthen in Persian and they're all
(29:48):
apply to ogres, monsters andother villainous creatures.
Like, it's just like, maybe, like one of the original ideas
of an evil being,
Berly (29:58):
like the first demon.
Yeah, okay.
LA (30:01):
It actually ended up in
England. It finally came to
England. And the word appears inthe 18th century fantasy novel
of William Thomas Beckford asdive, or maybe DVE. It's spelled
dive, though, and they speculatethat the concept of the Devas as
(30:22):
a malevolent force may have beenfrom the may have been inspired
from the cynthian gods. Andthat's a mythology that's also
related to, like ancient Iran,Iranian peoples. Okay, so that's
pretty much. That's the very, very short version I could find
(30:43):
without going, like, deep, diving into all of it, because
there's a lot. Does that makesense? Yeah,
Berly (30:49):
like, it's they're like
demons, but, yeah, specific to
this religion, right?
LA (30:54):
And then some of it over
time, but it's all basically,
they're not good.
Berly (31:01):
They could possibly fuck
you up. Yeah, yeah, they're not
nice, nope. So to close it out,I have a quote from Dean
Winchester. Yeah. He said, nexttime you want to get laid, find
a girl that's not so buckets ofcrazy, huh? Cheers.
LA (31:20):
He also called her bitch. He
Berly (31:21):
did. She was messing with
his man. Thank you for listening
to denim wrapped nightmares.
LA (31:32):
Follow us on Twitter or
Instagram, leave a review and
let us know how we can getinvolved in the fandom. This
Berly (31:38):
was fun, jerk. It always
LA (31:41):
is bitch you.
