Berly (00:01):
Music. Welcome to denim
wrapped nightmares, Tipsy
exchange Podcast where weexplore the supernatural series,
episode by episode, over
LA (00:11):
drinks, we'll discuss the
lore the gore and what we adore
about the Winchesters and theiradventures.
Berly (00:17):
I'm Burleigh and I'm a
new fan of the series.
LA (00:20):
I'm LA, and I'm here along
for the ride. Now let's get
Berly (00:27):
tipsy. Hello, LA,
LA (00:27):
hello, burly.
Berly (00:29):
I'm still recovering. I
think,
LA (00:31):
well, I feel like I'm barely
here from last week. Yeah,
tired.
Berly (00:37):
No, I met Sam Winchester.
LA (00:39):
Oh,
Berly (00:41):
what are you talking
about?
LA (00:43):
Just lack of sleep. Oh,
Berly (00:46):
is it because you were
up, tossing and turning,
thinking about Sam Winchesterand
LA (00:49):
tell yes, yes, yes. Oh,
speaking of that, the last
episode was, what was it HellHouse and Sam and Dean, they
find this haunted house anddiscover this website with this
lore about Mordecai, and hekilled his daughters there, and
now he's the one haunting it,but they basically end up
(01:13):
realizing it's a Tulpa, and justall these people that are
reading this Story are creatingthe spirit that's haunting the
house. So Sam and D kind of tryto change the storyline. Doesn't
work out too well for them. Butof course, they they kill them
in the end and save the day. So
Berly (01:31):
it was cute. I really
liked it. Yeah, I really liked
this week's episode too. Yes, wegot a got a few good ones in a
row here. Yeah, now we're gonnarecap this week's episode, which
is called something wicked. Sowe open up in a house where
there's a little girl on herknees saying her bedtime
(01:52):
prayers, and her dad comes in totuck her into bed. Already we
know something's off because hecalls her monkey puss. Yeah, I
did not care for that weirdmonkey. Puss, good night. Monkey
puss, as he's saying, Good nightto her. They kind of have a
conversation. And we find outthat the mom is staying
overnight at the hospitalbecause her sister is sick. We
(02:17):
see this tree outside tapping upagainst the window after the dad
turns off the light and closesthe bedroom door, and the little
girl sits up, and she's kind ofscared, and then the branches,
you have to look for it, but thebranches kind of start to turn
into this really long fingered, creepy hand that comes out
(02:41):
toward the window. Somethingcomes in and attacks the little
girl in her bed. It's thisfigure in this shadowy robe
thing, and it opens its mouthand it glows and kind of hisses,
and the little girl screams. Andwe see from the outside of the
house that the windows areclosed. Then we cut to our boys,
(03:05):
the Winchesters, Sam and Dean, they're in the Impala, driving
down the highway, and they aregoing to Fitchburg, Wisconsin,
not Pittsburgh, correct? Ithought they said Pittsburgh at
first. I was like, there's aPittsburgh in Wisconsin, which
you never know there's a Parisin Texas, true. So I thought
they said Pittsburgh at first, but it's Fitchburg with an F and
(03:27):
apparently daddy Winchester sentthese coordinates to Sam and
Dean, so he's sending them acase to go work.
LA (03:35):
Sam's not convinced.
Berly (03:36):
Sam's kind of pissed off.
He's like, I've lookedeverywhere I can. I think he
even said, like, LexisNexis orsomething. Wasn't that a
research site that we could usewhen we were in college? What I
don't remember, I'm saying,Yeah, because I was I heard it
and I was thinking. I was like,Why have I heard that before?
And I think that's what it was, that it was a research site, oh,
for academic papers orsomething. I'm not sure, okay,
(03:56):
but basically, Sam's saying,I've fucking looked everywhere.
There's nothing, there'snothing. I don't know why we're
going. Dean is just being goodsoldier. We've been sent these
coordinates. We've been asked togo do this. So we're going, they
pull over and they get out ofthe car, and Sam kind of starts
looking around, and he asks,What time is it? And Dean says,
(04:20):
I think he said it was four.
It's late, late in theafternoon. And Sam kind of
comments, so schools, schoolsshould be out. Like, what's
wrong with this picture?
LA (04:31):
And looking at a playground,
right?
Berly (04:33):
And there's one kid,
yeah, Dean comments, it should
be, this place should becrawling with kids. What's up?
So he goes over and talks to amom who's sitting at the
playground, presumably the kid'smom, and basically is like, what
the fuck is going on? Where areall the kids? And the mom says,
well, parents are scared.
There's been five or six kidsthat have gotten sick. It's
(04:53):
catching on, you know, peopleare scared, so they're keeping
their kids at home. Mm.
LA (05:00):
She's like, not me. We're
out. We're out and about. Well,
there's
Berly (05:03):
nobody at the lake around
for her kid to get sick. I would
have done it too. Okay, she
LA (05:06):
didn't know that. Go in
there.
Berly (05:10):
Just kidding. So Sam and
Dean have a lead now. They
decide to go to the hospital andclaim to be from the CDC for
this outbreak. That's happeningeven though it's only five to
six kids. I don't know if a CDCwould show up for that. Yeah,
but whatever. Not my rodeo, notmy not my thing. And they have
new suits. Yes, it's not justthe Men in Black. Yeah, it's not
(05:31):
just the Men in Black, Black Tieanymore. They are in new suits,
new shirt, new tie. Look at theylook really good. And as they're
walking into the hospital, Sam'skind of bitching because he has
this ID that says bikiniinspector on it. Dean gets a
crack like, crack it up aboutit. And kind of spins Sam to the
desk to ask the nurse to go tothe pediatric ward. And he's
(05:54):
like, she probably won't evenlook at it. She definitely asked
to look at it. Of course shedid. So Sam flashes it very
quickly, and she tells themwhere the pediatric award is.
And on their way to thepediatric ward, they pass this
one room where this this oldwoman sitting in a wheelchair,
and she just looks grumpy, yeah,I don't know, creepy, definitely
(06:15):
angry, not approachable. I'llput it that, yeah, yeah. She
doesn't look very approachableat all, definitely. And they
make it a point to show thatthere's an upside down crucifix
on her wall. And Dean is staringin here, kind of like, What the
fuck? And then Sam says, Hey,come on, let's go. So they just
move past that. We'll come backto that later. They go to the
(06:36):
pediatric ward and they meet DrHeidecker, I don't like his
hair. I don't like him. I didn'tlike him right off the bat. He
just No, I didn't care for him.
And maybe that makes me shallow, but I think it just means I have
good intuition. Yeah, there yougo. So, Dr Heidecker is
explaining that they've allgotten pneumonia, that their he
(06:57):
said, like, their white cellcount is down. And basically, he
said their bodies aren't doingwhat they're supposed to do in
order to heal and get better.
They're just all in comas.
They're like, wearing down.
Their bodies are wearing down.
Yeah. And this nurse comes overand comments on how it's
spreading. Is unlike anythingshe's seen before. Sam and Dean
are like, What are you talkingabout? And she says it affects
(07:19):
one sibling and then the othersibling, yeah. She's
LA (07:25):
like, it's going by family,
yeah, family by family,
Berly (07:29):
which is weird. They ask
if they can talk to the parents,
because they can't talk to thekids. They're not conscious. And
they talk to Mr. Monkey puss, because he's sitting there out
in the hall. So they go talk tomonkey puss, and he's obviously
distraught. Yeah, he's he'supset. He looks exhausted. He
answers their questions, buthe's basically just like, you
(07:51):
know, I just, I want to go seemy daughter. Leave me alone. So
they watch him walk off, and Sambrings up a point of, I know one
thing, that he's not going to behome anytime soon. They know the
mom is at the hospital, the dadis at the hospital, the two kids
are at the hospital. The houseis sitting there empty, and
nobody's going to be going homeanytime soon. So what are those
Winchesters do? Head on overgood old B and E, yep. So
(08:15):
they're in the house lookingaround. Sam has a blue light.
He's not checking for semen. Idon't know what he's checking
for, yeah, or black light.
That's what, yeah, isn't it?
Black Light? I think so whoknows what he's looking for. And
say, and Dean is looking forstuff too. I think he had the
EMF. Dean had the EMF out. Sam'sgot the black light out. They
aren't finding nothing. Yeah.
And then Sam goes over andchecks the window, because
(08:36):
everybody's been saying that thekids have had open windows when
this thing has happened, which,by the way, you don't catch
pneumonia from just having anopen window, right? I
LA (08:47):
mean, like, that old saying,
like, if they went to bed with
their head wet, they're gonnaget sick if, like, the windows
open, or something like that. Ifeel like
Berly (08:54):
you have to already be
getting sick for something like
that to push you over the edge.
Yeah, true. I don't think you'rejust gonna get sick from having
a window open, gonna get cold.
They kept talking about this, like the window being open
causing pneumonia. I was justlike, does it? Though I feel
like that's an old wives tale.
Yeah. Anyway, Sam goes to thewindow, and he opens it, and
there's this creepy fuckinghandprint from the long fingered
thing on the window sill whereit rotted the
LA (09:18):
wood, yeah. Also, I was as
we were watching that part, I
was like, how did that dad notnotice that when he, like, he
went over, he said he he went tothe window and closed it, right?
He
Berly (09:29):
said, He made sure it was
closed before he, like, tucked
her in. Okay, all right, allright. But like I said, they
showed that the window wasclosed when she was screaming.
So I guess the the monster thingopened the window to leave, and
so when the dad came in, that'swhen the window must have been
open, because it was closed whenshe got attacked. So I don't
(09:50):
know how it got in. And it wasclosed when Dean and Sam were in
the room. Yeah, I think it wasclosed. Now I'm questioning it
was he opened. It Okay? Well, itwas closed when Sam and Dean
were there. I'm saying I thinkit was closed when she screamed,
like, I'm pretty sure when Idon't remember that, when it
showed the shot from outside thehouse, I'm pretty sure the
window was closed. But itdoesn't really matter. Yeah,
(10:10):
this show plays it fast andloose with whether it's day or
night time and how many hours ittakes to get from one place to
the other. We don't need tospeculate on that too much. Dean
comes over and looks at thehandprint, and he has seen this
handprint before. So thistriggers a flashback, and we
finally get to see young Deanand Sam. They're in a hotel
(10:31):
room, motel room, and JohnWinchester is there. So we get
to see Jeffrey Dean Morgan, andthey've made him look younger.
They've had them all cleanshaven, and his hair is darker
and everything. He's basicallygoing over rules with Dean about
what to do, what not to do whilehe's gone. He didn't say how
long he was going to be gone, but it seemed like he was going
(10:52):
to be gone at least overnight, yeah, if not longer. With the
way he was talking to Dean andSam, and as he was collecting
his things to go on the huntingtrip. One of the things that was
out on the table was a pictureof a handprint, just like what
Sam found on the windowsill.
They kind of figure it out thattheir dad, John Winchester, must
have been hunting the same thingat one point. And so they kind
(11:14):
of figure out, okay, well, hemust have sent us here to finish
the job, because he didn'tfinish it, and Sam kind of
comments on why didn't he finishit? What would have happened?
But it's just kind of left therethat who knows, but for whatever
reason, it didn't get done. Sowe're here to finish the job. We
love Jeffrey Dean Morgan, yeah, but John Winchester was a shitty
(11:35):
dad, yeah, he wasn't a greatdad. He wasn't a good dad. So we
just definitely LA and I havegotten very excited every time
Jeffrey Dean Morgan's been onthe show. So after this episode,
I feel the need to clarify withour audience and with myself,
that who we love is Jeffrey DeanMorgan. Yeah, John Winchester
was not a good father. Yeah. Hewas a pretty father. True, true,
(11:59):
true, but not a good one. Yeah?
LA (12:02):
I mean, he loved him, but he
was just a little preoccupied
with what he was after, yes,
Berly (12:08):
yeah, and he may have
done the best he could, yeah.
Doesn't mean that it was good, yeah. I mean, his, his, at least
one of his sons, had nochildhood whatsoever, yeah,
which is very sad. Cut back topresent time. We're with Sam and
Dean, and they have pulled up toa motel, and Dean explains that
(12:32):
what they are looking for is atype of witch called uh shriga
Striga. Striga Striga Striga, called a Striga Dean, goes into
the motel and is talking to thislittle boy who's manning the
front desk. And little boy asks, okay, you want a room? Do you
(12:55):
want a king or two queens? AndDean says, Two queens. And the
little boy goes, Yeah, I bet.
Well, he
LA (13:01):
looked out and saw Sam, and
then looked back at him. He was
like, I bet
Berly (13:06):
you guys. So I love this
kid already. He's fucking
hilarious. His name's Michael, and he is just a smart mouth
little shit. And those are thebest those are the best kids.
They're also why I don't want tohave kids, but that's neither
here nor there. They're the bestto hang out with for just a
short period of time and thensend them home to whoever owns
them. Owns them. Sorry. I meant, you know what I mean? I know I
(13:30):
do. I gotcha. So Michael's momcomes over while he's helping
Dean and makes a joke about, gohelp. Go feed your brother or
something before you do any moredamage. And so she finishes
checking out Dean, and we seethat they're still doing the
credit card scam. Dean pulls outsome credit card that doesn't
have their name on it.
Obviously, Dean kind of lookspast the mom, and you can see
(13:51):
their little living area that'sin the motel. And he sees
Michael making dinner for hislittle brother, yeah, which
triggers another flashback toDean making brother for Sam when
they were left all alone at amotel. Yeah, Dean sacrifices his
own desire to eat the LuckyCharms. He's a good dad to give
(14:13):
them to Sam. He was a good dad, especially for like a 10 year
old kid. Yeah, and Sam tried tobe nice. And do you want the
prize? Yeah? And I, like, wantedto be like, No, Sam, he fucking
wanted the Lucky Charms. Yeah,
LA (14:27):
he was hungry. Also. I was
like, I was like, Dean, why
don't you eat the spaghetti?
Owes if you're hungry. Like, hejust dumped him out. He just
waste
Berly (14:38):
Okay, so maybe he wasn't
as good of a dad, but more a 10
year old. He
LA (14:41):
was like a dad. He's look
he, that was what Dad told him,
most important look after Sammy.
Yep, Sam's a priority.
Berly (14:49):
We come back to present
day, and we're in the motel
room. They got their two queens, and Sam is researching the
strika. Yeah. Have to say itlike the voy Striga. And he
confirms that Dean was right.
They talk about the witch. Theysay it's usually in the form of
an old woman, and that maybethat's where, like witches being
(15:11):
the old crone, or whatever camefrom, is from the Striga things,
and that they feed on Spiritusvitae, or like breath of life.
And Sam says, but there's no wayto kill it. I don't see any way
to kill it, but Dean has itmemorized how to kill this
thing, that you have to havethese special bullets and that
it's only vulnerable when it'sfeeding. And he knows it off the
(15:35):
top of his head. And So Sam iskind of like, how did you know
that? And Dean is, well, it's indad's journal, like, I know
this. And Dean's acting kind ofweird. He hasn't been acting
particularly normal since theyfound the handprint at the
house. They decide, well, therewas that old woman at the
(15:56):
hospital, and at first, Sam kindof makes a smart ass comment, of
like, oh yeah, an old person ata hospital. How weird. But Dean
says, well, there was an upsidedown crucifix in their room, so
we should go check it out. Sothey decide to go check it out.
And they sneak into her room, and she's sleeping with her
(16:17):
peepers open as she said, Yeah.
And she scares the hell out ofthem when she suddenly is like,
Hey, who's in here? Because theywere getting really close in her
personal space, to be honest, whether she was sleeping or not,
yeah,
LA (16:32):
I didn't really understand
what they were doing.
Berly (16:35):
I guess they were trying
to verify. Is she the witch? Who
knows? But she basically said, you know, fix that crucifix.
I've been asking for that tobeen be fixed for like, five
days now, or something likethat. They decided the grumpy
old woman is not the witch, andgo back to the motel. Meanwhile,
we see Michael and Ashersleeping in their rooms, and
(16:57):
that same creepy hand starts tocreep into the window the next
morning, Sam and Dean arewalking out of the motel. Sam is
still laughing about Dean almostshooting an old woman for no
reason, just because shestartled them, but Dean looks
over and sees Michael, and cantell he's not happy. So they go
(17:17):
over to check on Michael, and heexplains that his little brother
got sick, and he's feeling likehe's at fault because the window
was open, and just like DeanMichael feels like it's his
responsibility to take care ofhis baby brother. So they're
trying to talk to Michael andmake him feel better when his
mom comes out and she'sflustered and throwing shit in
the car, telling Michael, turnon the no vacancy, so people
(17:41):
aren't trying to come and get aroom and what have you lock up.
You don't need to worry aboutroom service. You don't need to
worry about anything. Just stayhere. You can't come with me.
Dean actually offers to driveher to the hospital, which she
accepts. But before leaving,Dean looks at Sam and is like,
we're gonna have to go kill thisthing. We're gonna have to
figure this out. While Dean isat the hospital, Sam goes to the
(18:03):
library to do some more researchon the witch. And he's going
through articles and finds outthat since the 1890s every 15 to
20 years, this same thing hashappened in multiple cities, and
he finds pictures of people in ahospital where this outbreak
(18:25):
occurred, and one of the doctorshappens to be Dr Heidecker,
which doesn't sound weird untilSam points out that the picture
is from the year 1893 they knowwho their street, Striga is now,
right after Dean hangs up thephone, Dr Heidecker and his
(18:46):
audacity come over to have aconversation and talk about how,
oh yeah, we're doing everythingwe can trying to help them. It's
just such a shame, and Dean istotally having to keep his anger
in check and not kill him rightthen and there. When he gets
back to the hotel, he says thathe didn't have his gun on him,
(19:06):
which was fortunate, because hedoesn't know that he wouldn't
have been able to shoot him andkill him right there. So now
they're talking about, how arewe going to get this thing?
Basically, Dean suggests thatthey use Michael as bait. Sam
doesn't like it, but they can'tthink of any other plan as to
when they're going to knowexactly where this thing is
going to be and when it will bepotentially be feeding so that
(19:29):
they can actually use thesespecial iron consecrated bullets
in order to kill the witch.
Yeah, which,
LA (19:39):
I mean, they, they have,
they're already know that he's
an ex, so it's like, even ifthey aren't using him for bait,
like it's gonna happen. I
Berly (19:46):
remember when Sam was
like, That's a terrible plan.
You were like, That's a perfectplan.
Unknown (19:50):
I mean, he's coming
anyway.
Berly (19:52):
It's gonna happen anyway.
Yeah, may as well use it to youradvantage, right? Well, while
they're having their littledebate about this whole thing.
Dean says something passivelyabout how, like, I'm not going
to screw up again, or somethinglike that. And Sam is just kind
of looks at him, thinking, Whatthe fuck? What are you talking
about? And so Dean finallyexplains that he remembers when
(20:12):
their dad hunted this monsterbefore he didn't just happen to
have all this shit memorizedlike he remembers this clearly.
And it turns out that the Strigaattacked Sam one night where
Dean was responsible forwatching him. Dean had stepped
out of the motel room to go playvideo games after Sam had gone
(20:35):
to bed, and when he came back, the Striga was there about to
feed on Sam. So Dean feelsresponsible for the fact that
that streak I got in there. Butpoor little Dean, even if you
were there, it could havehappened. It's happened in all
these other houses, and theirsibling was right there. The two
little girls, they shared thesame room, yeah,
LA (20:57):
well, and so did Michael and
his little brother, right? Yeah.
Even
Berly (21:01):
if you were there, this
could have happened, but now we
find out why Dean's been actingkind of off the whole episode.
It's guilt and all of this. Andalso their dad got there just in
the nick of time in theflashback and shot the witch,
but it didn't do the job.
Apparently, he got scolded byJohn Winchester, in addition to
already probably feeling like,Shit, yeah, he got scolded
(21:23):
basically, like, where the fuckwere you? I told you to watch
him and John Winchester beingdad of the year again. So we got
that flashback
LA (21:34):
well, and Dean also feels
guilty now that, like it's
because of him, what he did, that all these kids are sick
now. Oh, I
Berly (21:40):
didn't think of that.
Yeah, he
LA (21:41):
didn't get the like, he's
the one that blew it, which, I
mean, not really dad, yeah. Dadshould have had the right
bullets,
Berly (21:49):
yeah. Oh, Dean did pick
up the gun, and I think he he
froze. That's what it was, yeah, busted. And then dad busted in,
yeah? So maybe that's what itwas. Whenever Dean picked up the
gun, the Striga was feeding andDean could have you didn't have
the iron concentrated attacks inthat gun. Yeah, Dean, come on.
Just one hug, Dean, and justtell him, that's your fault. I
(22:10):
know. Take off your pants. Okay, they decide to let Michael in on
the plan, and that's kind oftheir, I guess, compromise that
Sam doesn't like the plan. Deanthinks it's the only plan. Let's
actually talk to Michael, and ifhe's willing to do it, we'll do
it. So they go have aconversation with him, let him
(22:33):
know what's going on. And atfirst he's like, fuck, you know,
I don't know what y'all aretalking about. But then he comes
to their motel room afterthey've talked, and knocks on
the door and asks them, if I dothis, will my baby brother get
better? And they're honest withhim, they tell him, we honest.
We don't know. We don't know ifhe's going to get better or not.
(22:53):
So Michael decides if there's achance it's worth it, and so he
agrees to do it. That night, they're all in the bedroom, in
Michael's bedroom, and gettinghim ready for bed and kind of
preparing him for everything.
And I thought this scene wasreally cute. And I love that
actor who played Michael. Iloved that little kid. And he
was asking, you know, or Deanwas telling him how the guns
(23:14):
were going to be loud and coverhis ears, and as soon as, as
soon as they came in the door toroll on, off the bed, get under
the bed, cover your ears. Andkid was a little more concerned
about getting shot than beingconcerned about the witch
coming, which I thought was kindof cute. He was really nervous
about the fact that they weregoing to be shooting. I mean, I
would be too, especially at
LA (23:35):
my bed, right? So
Berly (23:37):
they set up kind of a
nanny cam thing so they could
keep an eye on Michael fromanother room, so the Striga
would think that Michael washome alone. And sure enough, at
the witching hour, 3am theshrigas Creepy hands come back
into the picture, and it opensthe window and it goes in, and
(24:00):
Sam's like, let's go. And Dean'slike, No, we have to wait. We
have to wait until he's feedingbefore we can go in. And so
Michael sit is awake and seesthis thing coming at him, which
kudos to him for not running.
LA (24:11):
Oh, my god, yeah,
Berly (24:12):
I would have fucking got
the hell out of there even
though I knew the plan. Yeah. Sothe witch comes over and it puts
its hands, its creepy longfingers on Michael, and it opens
its mouth, and the white lightstarts glowing. Then Sam and
Dean come busting in, kick thedoor open, shoot the witch.
Michael rolls under the bed, just like he was supposed to.
(24:33):
He's down there. But it just allseemed too simple. Yeah, and
even though I straight upfucking said that when we were
watching the show, this seemedtoo easy. It still scared the
shit out of me. Whenever thatwitch jumped up and grabbed
Dean, I was like, Oh, I was notready. I was not prepared. So
(24:54):
the witch attacks Dean, kind ofthrows him in the corner. Sam is
kind of shooting him. So thewitch goes for Sam. Sam, and
tackles Sam down and startstrying feeding on Sam, actively
feeding on Sam. So not only hasthe little white light shining
in its mouth, but you can seethe breath of life coming from
Sam and into the witch. And Iguess that's what they needed to
(25:17):
wait for. Yeah, because thistime when Dean shoots the witch
right in the fucking forehead.
It does the job. The witch isdone, but Dean still shoots it a
few more times just to make sureI like it. They check on
Michael. They're like, Are youcool? And he says, yes, and he's
obviously a little shaken, buthe's okay. And he kinds and goes
and stands next to them, andDean, like, puts his hand on his
(25:41):
shoulder, and the way he lookedup at Dean, just like, You're my
hero. Yeah, I know they've donea prequel series, LA, and I
haven't started it yet, becausewe don't want to get confused
between the two storylines andthe shows and whatnot, but I
think it would be such a cutesequel or not? Yeah, sequel
series. If Michael grew up to bea hunter? Yeah? Maybe his baby
(26:04):
brother's a hunter with him too.
Oh, because he definitely justthe way he was looking at Dean.
It totally made me think, like,Oh, He idolizes him now.
LA (26:15):
Oh, yeah.
Berly (26:16):
So the next morning, Sam
and Dean are packing up the
Impala, and Michael's mothershows up and is talking about
how Asher, this is the youngerbrother. I haven't said his
name, the whole episode has justmade a recovery, that it's a
miracle. The doctors have noidea what happened, but he's
better. And asks if Michaelwants to go to the hospital to
(26:36):
visit the brother. AndMichael's, of course, excited to
do it. And as she's talking moreabout hospital stuff. She says
something about Dr Travis saidthe other kids are expected to
make a full recovery too. And ofcourse, Sam and Dean are kind of
looking at each other, andthey're like, oh, what? What
happened to Dr Heidecker, playing it cool, like they don't
know. And she just says, I don'tknow he wasn't there today. He
(26:57):
must be sick or something, butwe all know he did. He dead. I
wonder what they did with thebody.
LA (27:03):
It looked like it like
disintegrated. Oh, did it? I
didn't know a little bit. Maybethey just swept them up, put
them in a trash bag.
Berly (27:11):
As they're leaving, Sam
says that he feels sad that
Michael's innocence is kind ofgone. Now he's going to know
that monsters are real, thatthere are things to be afraid of
in the dark, and that he wishesthey hadn't done that. And then
he says, You know, sometimes Iwish I still had that innocence.
(27:32):
And Dean looks at him as likesometimes I wish you still did
too, which just kind of lets usknow that to Dean, it's still
more important to him, for Samto be okay than it is for
himself, good dad. He's stillbeing that good dad. They get in
the Impala and Jared paddle,Lucky's legs are bent so much
(27:53):
that his knee is like over thedoor, his long legs, and they
drive off. And that was the endof something wicked. I really
enjoyed this episode. Yeah, itwas good. I liked this one a
lot. No gore. I had a couple ofjump scares from me the old
woman, a little bit. Butdefinitely when the witch came
back to life, that scared, thatdefinitely jumped scared me big
(28:16):
time. Getting some backstory, yeah, understanding a little bit
more where Dean's coming from, the protective verging on
possessiveness that he has withSam, kind of understanding where
that comes from. Yeah, and youwere happy to not have any more
weird tension, yeah.
LA (28:35):
Well, what there was, like,
one scene where, I think Sam
saying something like sweet tohim, and he's like, Oh God,
please no. And I was like, Oh,that you can't handle. But that
awkward, romantic, sexualtension scene that what you were
okay with because you startedthat conversation so weird.
Berly (28:56):
So on to the war. Tell
us. I mean, they explained it
pretty, pretty well. But tell usa little bit more about this
Striga. Yeah,
LA (29:04):
I got a little more
background on it that it says.
So this was like from an articleabout the Witcher. Actually,
they had a Striga in theirseason, one of their seasons,
but this one says that theStriga is a blood sucking
humanoid witch who drinks drinksfrom children while they sleep.
It comes from the Romanians.
It's Striga. It's probablypronounced different, but and
(29:26):
the Polish strizga, the Polishversion, makes her a full on
demon. The Albanian and Romaniandescriptions, they go a little
closer to like a witch monster, but she's, they say she's kind
of similar to a vampire, and sheonly, but she doesn't turn into
a bat. She turns into an insect.
(29:47):
No, which one? It doesn't say,no, but I'd be curious. No, I
don't like bugs. Uh, she's ashape shifter. And they, Oh,
all, everything I saw, theyrefer to her as a she. So I
thought that was interesting, that they chose. To make it a
male on their episode,
Berly (30:02):
equality, Yeah, cheers.
They're
LA (30:06):
often they keep their human
forms during the day and
transform into their vampirictype form at night, which we saw
that, right? Yeah, the
Berly (30:15):
long fingers, very
creepy. And
LA (30:18):
it does say that they tend
to move through whole families
taking their life essence untilthey're all dead, and those
children who were fed on off ofbecome comatose and vulnerable
to other diseases. And there, there is a cure that can only
come from the Striga, and it isthat she has to spit in the open
mouth of the sick child, andthat's how she can cure him. I'm
Berly (30:41):
happy they didn't do
that. Me
LA (30:43):
too disgusting. I'm
Berly (30:45):
happy they went another
route with that. Yeah,
LA (30:47):
it says that it was formed
when an unborn child lives and
its mother dies during birth, lovely God, the infant grows to
continues to grow and graduallybecomes an angry killing
machine. And this one kind of ismore on the Polish side and the
Scandinavian, it says the Polishporonics and the Scandinavian
(31:10):
mylings. So these are alldifferent kind of takes on it.
But these unfortunate childrenhaunt the lives and homes of
those who have been the closestto them. They hate those who
were a part of their lives andthe lives that they should they
felt they should have had. Sothey're bitter. Mother, damn,
yeah. Oh, on Wikipedia, theysaid that she's often pictured
(31:31):
as a woman with a hateful stare, sometimes wearing a cape, but
she has a horribly disfiguredface, which I was like, Well, I
feel like that lady could havebeen the grumpy lady on the
verge of looking like that.
Yeah, it
Berly (31:43):
was definitely a
misdirect, for sure. Yeah,
LA (31:46):
oh yeah. Because I was like,
Oh, they got her. There she is.
She fit the fit the bill. Right
Berly (31:51):
off the bat with like,
the first 510 minutes of the
episode, there she is. Another
LA (31:55):
ones describes her as an
older, middle aged woman with
gray, pale green or pale blueeyes. They really tried to trick
us here this episode. Goodthing. We
Berly (32:04):
didn't do this research
ahead of time, right? And
LA (32:07):
they have usually have a
crooked nose. Their stare would
make people uncomfortable, andpeople would avoid looking at
them directly in their eye, because they had the evil eye.
Now they
Berly (32:20):
definitely made the old
woman, the grumpy old woman,
look exactly like what a Striga, yeah, is described to look like.
So yeah, I like that. Theymisdirected it, though, and
ended up having it be this kindof hoity, toity, white man who
needed an updated hairstyle,
LA (32:37):
maybe a tan. Yeah. Hey,
Berly (32:40):
I'm fair too. Oh, God,
hello. So am I? I
LA (32:44):
always say my legs could
glow in
Berly (32:45):
the dark. Mine do. Oh,
LA (32:50):
so this one, it says that to
ward off the witch, people could
take a pinch of salt in theirfingers and touch their closed
eyes, mouth, heart and theopposite part of their heart and
the pit of their stomach andthen throw the salt in direct
flames. And there's a saying,I'm gonna ruin this, but it's
sta i dalson, sit i placen, orjust wish whisper it three to
(33:16):
six times without the salt. No,as you're like throwing it in
the flames, I guess
Berly (33:21):
salt and fire seem to be
really important, right? Wonder
what that's about. I
LA (33:26):
don't know. There were other
there are other ways that you
could kind of defend yourself. Idon't know why I'm laughing. A
cross made of pig bone could beplaced at the entrance of a
church on Easter Sunday, rendering that the Street guy
was unable to come inside orleave if they caught it in
there, I guess, Oh, nice. But ifthey did catch them, they could
(33:47):
be killed at the threshold, asthey like, vainly try to attempt
to leave. I guess that's kind ofthe vulnerable part of it. I
guess in this one after that, draining the blood from a
victim, the street Striga. Well, okay, so then another way she
kills them is she drains theirblood, and she would generally
go off into the woods andregurgitate it.
Berly (34:10):
That's how that's what a
Striga would do, yeah. Oh,
LA (34:14):
if a silver coin were to be
soaked in that blood and wrapped
in cloth, it would become anamulet offering permanent
protection from the Striga.
Berly (34:22):
So you'd have to follow
the Striga in the forge, watch
her vomit up all the blood andthen go put a coin in it,
LA (34:27):
I guess that. Or yeah, yeah,
because she drains the victim of
the blood, yeah, I don't know.
Man. In Catholic legends, itsaid that the Striga can be
destroyed using holy water witha cross in it. Islamic myth, it
says that she can be sent awayor killed by rectifying verses
from the Quran and spittingwater on the street itself, lots
(34:47):
of um, spitting andregurgitation. And makes
Berly (34:55):
me wonder, how you
consecrate those iron bullets.
Were they ConSec. Created withspit and blood. And yeah,
because they didn't say how theiron bullets got consecrated.
Oh, but
LA (35:07):
yeah, that was it. It's been
in a bunch of stuff TV wise,
obviously in Witcher and this.
But yeah, that's what I foundabout the lovely strigas.
Berly (35:17):
Nice. Yeah, good stuff.
LA (35:20):
Interesting. Spit in my
mouth. Please save me.
Berly (35:26):
Just spit right here. So
to close out the episode, we
have a quote After Sam figuresout Dr Heidecker is the witch
and they're he's on the phonetelling Dean about it. He says,
should have thought of thisbefore a doctor is the perfect
disguise. You're trusted. Youcan control the whole thing.
LA (35:46):
That son of a bitch is what
Dean says.
Berly (35:50):
Cheers. Thank you for
listening to denim wrapped
nightmares.
