Speaker 1 (00:47):
Welcome to another
lovely episode of Dial the Wild
Podcast.
I am Travis and this is Seth.
I am not Travis, he is notTravis, he is Seth.
And we're just like you knowwhat.
We're going to stay on pointtoday.
We've got our list of things wewant to talk about podcast.
Blah, blah, blah.
And then he goes well, let meput on this video.
(01:08):
And I was like okay, becausesometimes we'll put on a ball
game or something while we'repodcasting and we kind of get
sidetracked or get you know.
But then seth is like I got youand he puts on this freaking
ocean video that they have onYouTube and we're just watching
this tortoise freaking swimaround and eat fish and it's
(01:31):
quite possibly the coolest thingI've ever seen.
Well, you know, he's got like aporpoise on his back or is that
a shark?
Those are, those are.
They're kind of like suckerfish, but they look like sharks.
I guess that's cool as hell.
Anyways, yeah, I don't thinkthis has helped.
Well, no, but you know, usuallyhaving cats, I'll turn on
(01:54):
something just to entertainmyself, because I like it when
they run back and forth tryingto attack the tv screen.
Dude, he's like in an oceantree, just chilling he is.
I like that.
Anyways, so much has happenedsince you and I got the podcast
(02:16):
Came out with the new serieswith Legendary Luke's Cigar Club
where we enjoy a little scotch, enjoy a little whiskey, enjoy a
good stogie, exchange and sharestories with really cool people
.
Gotta love a good stogie.
I just I really enjoy goingthere.
My only problem with stogies isyou just can't get the smell
off of you.
Yeah, some days, yeah, it justdepends on how you do it.
(02:39):
It's a lot of time in yourclothes.
Usually you just gotta washyour clothes.
But no, it's been a goodpodcast, just good stories.
And it's just us guys sittingaround being guys and somebody
hit record.
It's not really scripted ornobody really knows what's gonna
happen once we hit the recordbutton.
But yeah, having having lukeyoung and you know legendary
(03:02):
luke's, and then having calebkiram from the, from the ritz
there to um, you know, just tellstories and stuff, you know
he's like a jedi master of like15 different martial arts and he
owns a bar, so obviously he'sseen some things.
His own personal bouncer, yep.
And then this last one we hadandrew, uh, andrew, who is Dr
(03:27):
Mixology, who was running to bein that magazine here not too
long ago and we were trying topush some votes for him, and
he's a really cool guy.
He's seen a lot of cool stufftoo and he mixes a lot of cool
drinks.
I mean, these guys have a cooloutlook on alcohol.
You know it's not like, well, well, let's pound a case of beer
.
It's like, hey, sit down andenjoy this, tell me what you
(03:48):
like about it and let's let'swalk through this.
If you don't like it, well, trythis instead.
And I think there's an appsomewhere where you can pair
well, no, you can pair like beerbeers with different foods and
stuff, and wine is big with winetoo.
I've I've been wanting to trythat.
It sounds like an interestingthing, but it also sounds
(04:09):
expensive.
But yeah, it's been a lot offun getting with them guys and
putting out a few episodes, sothat'll be cool to to have out
there for folks to check out.
Um, what else has gone on sinceour last podcast?
When was our last podcast?
I don't even know.
I don't know either.
(04:29):
We just got the new beer reviewout today.
So New beer here.
So we haven't done one of thosein a while.
That was nice to get one ofthem out.
Uh, also, stevie Mo has got um.
Him and his other buddy, steve,I believe is Steve Dearborn oh,
has got him and his other buddy, steve I believe it's Steve
Dearborn have their Two FatSteve's channel out now, which
is a cooking and smoking andit's a really cool channel that
(04:53):
they got going.
I'm really happy that thoseguys got together to pull that
off.
So, if you are on social mediaor YouTube or wherever you're at
Two Fat Steve's I believe thefat is spelled P, h a T but, uh,
they got some really coolgrilling and and cooking ideas
(05:13):
that they've gotten together andand and worked on.
So, what about you?
What do you got?
All right, so I'm, oh, I'vejust passed the big one.
Yeah, I'm doing this thing.
So I'm, oh, I've just passed abig one.
Yeah, I'm doing this thing.
So I'm going to start Seth'sInstagram corner.
Okay, is it like a rapid fire?
(05:34):
You have X amount of seconds toget through it?
Sure, I like that.
We can set a timer for it.
I like where we're going withthis.
Okay, I got a stopwatch.
You got how many stories youthink?
Guestimate?
We'll start one, two.
Hmm, we'll go.
(05:55):
We'll go, maybe four.
Okay, we'll go four stories, what do you think?
A minute to get through them?
Sure, okay and go.
Story one All right.
Story one All right.
Story one Anderson I don't knowhow to pronounce his last name.
He was the original singer forSlipknot.
He re-recorded all ofSlipknot's Mate Feed, kill,
(06:16):
repeat with a new band yes, theoriginal lineup at the time.
So that was pretty cool.
That happened, I don was prettycool, that happened.
Uh, I don't.
They also got their new drummer.
Oh, this was wrestlingbasketball, what it's.
You play basketball, mmabasketball, and I think it's
like you can only suplex people, that's if you're behind them or
something.
All right, what's next anyway?
(06:37):
Uh, high hockey, but alsofootball.
It's just football.
But you're on ice that isfootball, literally on skates,
yeah.
And you're in hockey that isfootball, literally on skates,
yeah, and you're in hockey gearand you throw football.
These are the things that arehappening.
And you actually kick the fieldgoal.
Okay, last one, he fell.
That was hilarious.
Okay, derrick Henry, derrickHenry going to the Ravens.
That's probably one of thescariest things that has
(06:59):
happened since our last LamarJackson.
And, and, yeah, derrick Henryin the same backfield.
That's a minute and that's aminute.
Hey, I think we covered that, for I thought that was pretty
good.
All right, and we still havemore stories for next time.
All right, stay tuned.
All right, I like where this isgoing and then I'm gonna have
to give you access to theInstagram, so so, basically, how
(07:23):
it works, okay, is I findsomething interesting and then I
send it to the Dial the WildInstagram and that's how I use
that, or maybe I'll just make ameme out of it or something you
could probably do that.
Yeah, people will be like oh,that's what he was, that's from
the podcast.
Oh, that guy, and you know, ifyou guys have Some weird
(07:46):
Instagram stuff, maybe we willbring it up next time.
Visit in the Dial the WildInstagram hour minute Instagram
hour.
We'll work on the name.
You have an opportunity toinfluence a whole minute, a
whole minute Of Dial the Wildpodcast, which isn't true at all
.
If you've got a good idea oryou got something you want out
(08:08):
there, all you got to do isholler at me, just like Erica
Durr not too long ago did apodcast with Erica.
She had this big autism walkawareness walk that went through
town Jess and I was part ofhere this last weekend awareness
walk that went through townJess and I was part of here this
last weekend and it was a greattime and it it was a good
(08:29):
episode.
I was, I was happy with it andwe got through a lot and we got
to talk about, uh, what wasgoing on and with the event and,
um, her experience with havingchildren with autism and, and
that's you know, with with ourfamily, that's close to our
heart because we have familythat I'm not going to say suffer
, but um, deal with thestruggles of autism on a daily
(08:51):
basis.
So, um, it was a good episode.
So, if you've got any ideas oryou want something you want to
talk about, or you got somethingyou want out there, let me know
.
I'm, I'm easy, bro, you know,even if it's a meme, we might,
we might, just, we might talkabout it.
If it's funny enough, we'llbring it up.
For sure, yes, for sure,anyways.
(09:12):
Uh, what else has happened sinceour last the men's and women's
ncaa ncaa tournament forbasketball had ended?
We watched, uh, caitlin clarkcome up just short of winning a
national title, but she gotdrafted number one overall to
the WNBA.
Now, do you think that'sfalling short on her part or do
(09:34):
you think that's a team effort.
No, it was pretty obvious thatthat South Carolina team that
beat Iowa was a far and awaybetter team.
The miracle of Kaitlin Clarkhad lasted so long that it
wasn't going to overcome thatteam.
I think at one point theyshowed don't quote me on this
(09:59):
but at one point in that gamethey had showed the minutes and,
like the five starters for iowahad played almost all but a few
seconds of the whole game.
This was like third quarterbecause of college basketball,
uh, the, the women go fourquarters still while the guys
still have two halves.
So, um, in the third quartermost of iowa starters had played
(10:22):
like most to all of the game, and there was zero bench points,
people coming off the bench andscoring points for Iowa.
There was zero, I think in thethird quarter, at least up to
halftime, I know.
And then I want to say SouthCarolina had like 30 bench
points, so they were just a big, deep team.
Um, that's always probably thehardest part to get about it.
(10:49):
It was a good year for women'sbasketball and women's sports
and I'm really happy.
It makes my heart happy havingtwo daughters that are going to
come up playing sports, men'sbasketball.
It was pretty clear what wasgoing to happen in men's
basketball because UConn justran roughshod through the
tournament.
(11:09):
If anybody was watching it'sstill on the YouTube channel.
I filled out a bracket solelybased on throwing darts at a
dartboard and I got last placein that league.
So dart theory is definitelyout the window.
Uh, we'll probably do it againnext year, just because it was
so much fun trying to fill out abracket hitting something with
(11:31):
darts.
But, um, yeah, let's, let's notgo.
Let's, let's not go thereanyways.
Uh, uconn was gonna do its thing.
They were just over and abovethe best team in the country all
year long.
It broke my heart to see thembeat Illinois the way that they
did.
I want to say they went on a30-0 run in the second half, the
(11:54):
start to second half.
So Illinois was hanging inthere with the best team in the
country and then came out andjust got their teeth knocked in
second half.
But that's sports, that's whywe play the game.
You just hope that tomorrow isa better day.
Strategies in one moment.
This was just my theory.
Kaitlyn Clark was going to goto the WNBA.
She was going to have a couplegood years, maybe stick it out
(12:18):
four or five or six years, retire and then the way that NIL
is going with paying coachesand paying athletes and
everything with the budgets theyhave, she'll make more money
going back to college basketballand becoming a coach than she
ever will playing in aprofessional sport.
Yeah, which is not true.
She could go to big three andmake five million.
She could go play for, uh, icecube over Big Three.
(12:42):
But that's enough aboutbasketball.
The Masters was freaking amazing.
Scotty Scheffler came back andabsolutely dominated to win his
second gold jacket.
Gold jacket, green jacket whogives a shit, come back and win
his second green jacket.
It was really cool.
(13:04):
I was actually officiating JFLflag football at the time, but
we were trying to catch up withit and we're like where the hell
did Scotty come from?
And he's like well, he cameback to win.
Well, apparently, you know, dechambeau fortunately fell off
the board and he was one of theonly live golf guys that was
making any any noise.
(13:26):
So it makes you think the formatthat the live guys are playing.
They're making a lot of moneyand they're playing three rounds
instead of four and they'redoing a shotgun star and they've
got this music going on at thesame time.
It's more of a, you know, funprofessional golfing atmosphere.
(13:48):
Maybe they got rattled a littlebit coming back to PGA type
golf.
You got to play another round.
That's that much headache.
That's that much heartache.
It's that much crap that youhave to get through in a day
that you have to be that muchmore mentally stable.
You know, because I thought itwas absolutely nuts that almost
(14:10):
none of the almost none of theguys from live tour came over
and competed at the masters huh,and it's one of the few events
that you know pga and and thelive guys can compete at at the
same time.
So I thought it was cool towatch Scotty win another one.
He's on pace.
I think he's only 26 orsomething.
(14:33):
Scotty Scheffler Well, come onGoogle, I figured it out, but I
think he's like 26 and he's wontwo Masters.
And people are starting and youknow I'm not going to get the
cart ahead of the horse here, but people are having Tiger-like
comparisons.
From what I've heard, tiger'sbeen making a comeback.
(14:53):
He played, he just his lastround at the Masters was
absolutely atrocious, likeembarrassingly bad, but he's
still there.
He's still doing the damn thing.
So 27 yeah, just turned 20.
Well, he's turning 27.
No, he is 27, okay, so he's 27years old.
(15:17):
He's won two masters.
That's pretty good resume.
But people will probably alsosay, well, half of the good
golfers in the world are at livegolf right now.
So how can you say he's as goodas he is?
Well, because live just cameover and played PGA or PGA style
at the masters and got ithanded to him.
(15:39):
So the verdict is out there.
I you know.
So how do contracts work?
The verdict is out there.
So how do contracts work?
From what I know, I just knowhow it works.
In the NFL or in the NBA,there's free agents.
There's regular signed players.
For golf, yeah, for golf.
Okay, so there is no contractsfor PGA Golf to come and play
(16:04):
the tour.
You actually have to, unlikeother sports where you just
declare to be a professional andyou pay your money and you get
your pro card and then you goand play with the pros whether
you're good or not.
You actually have to play orearn your way up to professional
(16:25):
status in golf.
And, yes, there are contractsin clubs.
There are contracts in grips.
There are contracts in clothes, hats, sunglasses, rolexes yeah,
brand deals, the kind of ballsyou use the shoes that are on
your feet.
There are those endorsementcontracts you can get out of PGA
(16:45):
Golf but the only money youtechnically win in PGA Golf is
the money that you win.
You have to make a cut.
So you play a couple days.
Top half of the field it'susually like top half of the
field gets to stay and play thesecond two days.
The other half of the fieldgoes home, no check.
But there's a purse like.
(17:06):
If it says kind of like our 20kind of archery, you shoot every
day but you don't go to manyarchery tournaments where you
shoot for four days, that wouldbe absolutely dreadful.
If it says it's got like a 20million dollar purse for a
tournament, that means thewinner is probably getting like
12, 15, 800,000, 600,000, andthen a handful of like 20,
(17:31):
$30,000 checks and so you haveto make the cut to get a check.
Live golf there's like I got300 mil come play for me.
So a lot of guys are like, okay, I'm going with that guy.
Yeah, you know, they're justhanding out money left and right
for guys to come and play golf, which it's cool because
(17:54):
obviously the pga was making alot of money off these guys for
a really long time and it wasn'treciprocated.
But you're kind of hamperingthe game.
Like, think about having two nflleagues, not nflFL, I'm talking
two NFL leagues playing theexact same time of the year,
basically like USFL tried to doit in the 80s when Donald Trump
(18:16):
ran it NFL and AFL yeah, beforethey united.
But like USFL was a thing inthe 80s and it was really good
and guys were actually takingdrafted NFL, guys were actually
taking um drafted nfl, guys weretaking, uh, their picks from
the draft from the usfl.
You know, doug fluties and theherschel walkers and some of
(18:38):
those guys were taking contractswith usfl instead of going to
the nfl.
And everybody thought it wasabsolutely absurd.
Well, it was because n NFL wasreally the only thing that
existed and worked at the time.
And then once they got greedyand I only know this from 30 for
30, but once they got greedyand said we're going to put this
(19:02):
at the same time of the year asthe NFL because we think we can
do it, uh, they, they were gonein a year.
You know, if they had juststayed in the off season they
would have been fine, but it iswhat it is and, you know, is
this going to be a good thingfor golf?
Are they going to eventuallymerge with a format they all
agree on?
I, who knows, it's the, it's upin the air, but it's
(19:24):
interesting conversation, okay, yeah, I did do that.
The uh, flag football, flagfootball, dude, those kids were
so much fun.
I I went with my buddy, uh,andy coats, up to pekin and we
reffed like four games in anafternoon and I got absolutely
fried.
It was like the first nice dayof the year and I just got
(19:44):
smoked out in the middle of thefootball field, not in a way
that I remember being smoked, which is usually like up downs.
Yeah, I was out there literallygetting fried by the sun.
But it was really funny becauseI had one kid come up to me.
He's like hey, ref.
I was like, yeah, uh, this guyover here is talking.
I was like, yeah, is he sayinganything profane or mean or out
(20:06):
of line?
No, or mean or out of line, no,he's just talking a lot.
He's like, okay, I'll, uh, I'llwatch him.
It was okay, thanks.
I said, oh, yeah, hey, uh,young man, he goes.
Yeah, it's a, make sure you'rebehind a line of scrimmage next
time you throw the ball down thefield.
And he just looked at me likeas scatterbrained as a dude
could, like he'd just seen aghost is like, yeah, I could
(20:27):
have called it.
Yep, just saying.
But I was back behind theoffense and andy was on the line
of scrimmage and he said it wasreally close, but I think he
got it off before he gotcompletely across the line of
scrimmage.
So it's always fun, um, goingout there and being with the
kids, uh, watching some football, other than I had to miss the
(20:48):
Masters at the time.
Flag football where I was atRefn that day and some of the
leagues that are up around thePeoria area, wasn't like flag
football.
We had growing up when it waslike put on some flags and do
some flips into the end zone andtackle each other and be jerks
and blah, blah, blah.
It's legit seven on sevenfootball.
(21:10):
You're just wearing flags.
Yeah, anyways, it gets crazy.
You were talking about, yeah, women's sports.
Women's flag football isapparently on a big rise as well
, like I've seen it everywhere.
I've seen it sometimes inadvertising.
They had well, we're, they hadseveral announced draft picks
(21:31):
this season.
We're starting to see a lot offemale referees in the game.
You see a handful of femalereferees in the game, and then
you see a handful of femalecoaches, like managerial staff
and stuff, and yeah, there's afemale shift in in the National
(21:55):
Football League.
Uh, do we ever get to the placewhere women are playing
professional football?
I don't know.
Um, that's a debate for anotherday.
Not trying to be anti-femalehere, but it's.
You know, I, I, I, I would hateto.
I'd hate to see somebody gethurt.
I guess is my main thing.
Yeah so, but you know withwhich leads us to the next one
(22:20):
nfl rule changes.
Yeah, I mean the way that a lotof people really want to push
out.
There is, the nfl is justturning into flag football.
Blah, blah, blah.
They're getting soft, they'regetting soft.
Hit, hit, hit.
What's the new tackle rule?
Oh, that you can't do a hipdrop tackle, hip drop tackle and
(22:41):
that's more or less justgrabbing somebody and sliding to
the side and doing a butt plopon the ground.
For a lot of those smaller guys, that's the only way to take
down the 6'5 receiver.
Yeah, there's no way you'retaking derrick henry down.
If you're that size well, thinkabout like six foot, 180 pounds
(23:05):
you're not taking derrick henrydown by normal means.
Well, think about.
I mean, you've told thesedefensive backs that there's
rules to protect a wide receiver, and I don't disagree with that
at all, but there isdefenseless receiver where you
(23:27):
can't just hit the guy.
To hit the guy, you have tomake a football move.
But I'm starting to see nowwe're in college and pro
football guys are making afootball move and it's a penalty
of some sort.
So it is a gray area and a fineline as to what's still the I
(23:51):
don't want to say the integrityof the game, but you still want
to see football be as safe whileit's still as violent as I
enjoy.
I enjoy the violence of it.
I do, everybody does.
That's why you play the game.
That's why you watch the game.
Okay, I can't speak for mostpeople because I'm not most
(24:15):
people, but a lot of people tellyou they don't watch hockey for
strategy in hockey.
What are they watching them for?
They're watching for the fights.
They're watching for the fights.
Okay, a lot of people thatdon't like NASCAR will sit
through a NASCAR race.
Why A lot of people that don'tlike NASCAR will sit through a
NASCAR race?
They want to see a wreck.
They want to see a wreck.
People want violence.
That's unfortunate, but that'show it is.
(24:38):
Really, I don't think there'sanything wrong with a little bit
of healthy violence.
I mean, yeah, we watch MMA andUFC, we watch WWE and wrestling.
There's no sport that isn'tviolent.
And, yes, it is scripted.
Wwe.
Besides, maybe curling andprofessional wrestling is
scripted, but it is not fake.
(24:59):
People are literally.
I've been watching a lot of likethe Chris Benoit and the Eddie
Guerrero stuff.
I mean, a saw what happenedwith.
Yeah, they're not actuallystriking each other, but they
are still hitting each other.
You're going there to watch twofull-grown men throw each other
(25:21):
across a slab, or women whatwas her name?
A slab of plywood and canvas.
You know that is still violence.
Rhea Ripley, rhea Ripley yeah, wrestle Mommy.
That's what we call her WrestleMommy.
And then there's a wrestler.
Now that's or the man, the man,the man, the myth, the legend.
(25:44):
But people are into violence.
That's why you watch football.
You want to see that guy catchthat ball.
That's why you watch football.
You want to see that guy catchthat ball.
That's why you watch John Wick, that's why you watch yes,
that's why you go to demoderbies and watch cars run into
each other.
People are like I am all aboutpeace, I do not like violence.
Chick, you just got donewatching like I don't know
(26:08):
General Hospital or some crap onTV where these girls got beef.
And you know it's coming downto something at some point.
Don't act like that drama isgoing to end peacefully.
Every time they got a crush onthis ghostly masked killer
that's running around, oh, he'sgot a mask.
It's so mysterious and it goesback.
Please, people don't beoffended.
(26:32):
Like the days of the gladiators, they were throwing people in a
pit with with swords andpitchforks and spears, with
lions and shit chasing around, because they wanted to see
people get torn apart.
Like, yeah, they wanted to seepeople get torn apart.
So you're not weird for likingthat kind of thing.
This is how we're wired.
(26:52):
You know why?
Because I don't want to getpunched in the face.
I want to see someone else.
I don't want to get ran over byderrick henry when he's
carrying a football because he'smaking millions of dollars to
be a really big person to beable, but I want to watch him do
it to somebody else watchinghim just toss josh norman across
(27:13):
the field entertaining with onearm.
He can make you feel stupid.
That's why we watch mma and ufcronnie, watch these two people,
and we've made that sport assafe as we can while still
making as violent as possible.
Because you still have to stayin a weight class, you still
have to follow a certain set ofrules, you still have to respect
(27:34):
the ownership and the otherfighters.
You can't just go out there andand like try to gnaw each
other's nose off or somethinglike there's still there are.
They're very strict with theirrules.
We like violence.
We're wired that way.
Not everybody there's.
Somebody out there's just like Icould do without it and, yes,
(27:55):
more power to you and get offthe violence.
Yeah, well, I can watch.
Yeah, I've always been the kindof person.
I can watch the Saw movies, butI could do without like the
first 30 minutes of him justmaiming and tearing people apart
yeah, but I enjoyed thestorylines and then a little bit
of violence.
That's why you watch scarymovies, people.
(28:15):
You want to see somebodystabbed.
Yeah, you know.
So don't make us feel weird.
For like a professional sportsfor its violence, but at the
same time, movies are acting.
It's fake, it's not real.
You still listen to your serialkiller podcast.
Don't get me wrong True crime, and they're still trying to do
(28:35):
what they can within sports, with professional wrestling,
with football, with MMA.
These are violent, violentsports and they're still trying
(28:58):
to keep it within a certainrealm of rules so that people
are going to get hurt.
But it's not fatal, you know.
So it's a violent sport.
They know it, they go into itdoing it.
Well, it's a reason.
The sport they make, the moneythey make, and I get it there's
always that worry they get hurt.
We've seen what happened withaaron hernandez.
We've seen what's happened witha number of other football
players eddie guerrero, we'veseen what happened with chris
benoit.
Alex smith was probably one ofthe better outcomes of that, but
(29:20):
still he still shattersentirely.
Cte is a real thing, depressionis still a real thing and
they're, and then substanceabuse and several other factors
go into that and you've got arecipe for disaster.
It does not bring discredit tothe sport itself, it's just how
(29:41):
the game is played.
But for other rule changes, forother rule changes, the new
kickoff is awesome.
I think it's awesome.
I think they just brought backthe kickoff is awesome.
I think it's awesome.
I think they just brought backthe kickoff in the NFL.
I want to see it.
I want to see it.
You can Go watch last year'sXFL.
(30:05):
That's where they adopted therule from.
They started that.
I don't know, this sea turtleis pretty majestic we will watch
it later.
But anyways, you can have acertain enough, certain number
of guys, certain amount ofpeople on parts of the field and
they kick it to you and the guyactually has a chance to return
it.
It's not to say that therewasn't a chance already, but you
(30:26):
know special teams.
People don't go to the nflmatch match game to watch
special team but at the sametime you don't want to take jobs
away from those guys.
It's still a craft and it'sstill an art.
It's.
Yeah, there's still a lot thatgoes in.
I still want to see justintucker hit a 70 yarder, you know
.
I still want to see whoever'spunting for the billsills coffin
(30:49):
corner somebody.
I still want to see someonelike Devin Hester-esque return
like 500 touchdowns.
You got to think like CorderoPatterson's, like you got to
shoot me man.
They're going to bring thisback and I'm at the tail end of
my career.
That's a bull man.
(31:09):
He had a pretty, I don't know.
Ufc Patterson's a different one.
Speaking of UFC, we have, first, one last rule.
Oh, we have one more.
One last rule.
Okay, they introduced the ideathat you can wear helmet caps,
helmet covers, helmet coverslike how you wear in practice.
(31:31):
If your school has money, um,the they're sort of they just go
over your helmet.
It's a little itty bitty padsthat sit there.
I mean it's I don't, I don'thate it it.
They look goofy, I guess, butif it's another way to protect
your brain, I don't see any harmin it.
(31:52):
It's not gonna be effective oranything.
Probably a smart thing to do.
It just doesn't pass the eyetest because it looks so weird
on a football helmet.
Plus, it'll cover up the cooldesigns of the helmets which
they just established that youcan have a third helmet design.
Now, don't get me wrong.
If you're anyway anywhere awayfrom the actual game itself, you
should probably be wearing oneof these.
(32:15):
But are they going to wear itduring games?
I don't know.
Like I said, it doesn't passthe eye test, but that's not
what matters at the end of theday.
It's an option, but it's notrequired as of now and maybe the
skill positions will say wedon't want to wear the damn
thing.
We're trying to be fast and thelinemen will all be like we
(32:38):
should probably wear one and thelinebackers will be like, uh,
we should definitely probablywear one.
But you know, yeah, give one tomike williams.
I think when that chunk ofhelmet was missing on Patrick
Mahomes during the playoffs thislast year, he probably would
have loved to have one on.
Yeah, they'll probably.
At some point they'll probablyenforce that for quarterbacks,
(33:01):
the actual game where peoplelost fingers and toes.
Yeah, ronnie Lott ripped hisown finger off just to keep
playing.
No, I'm talking about thatplayoff game just last year.
That was like 10 below.
Oh.
Yeah, people were out therewith no shirts and stuff on.
They were losing fingers andtoes and everything else.
Yeah, people are dumb.
Anyway, ufc, ufc 300 wasamazing.
(33:29):
That fight between JustinGaethje and Matt Holloway was
one of the coolest things I'dseen in in in MMA history and
I've watched almost all of them.
Uh, dad wasn't a big fan of ofWWF growing up or WCW, so he
(33:50):
turned us on to UFC and the wayUFC was structured early on was
it was a bracketed fight andthey'd come in there and any
person any size could go inthere and beat the shit out of
each other and the winner at theend of the night was the guy
that won after three or fourfights in a bracket.
So, um, starting from that towhere we are now, it's much more
(34:11):
structured, it's more safe.
Yeah, I didn't realize, likethe time gap between fights.
Yes, that is very expansive inmy brain.
So here we are and we'rewatching, just engaging in max
holloway, and they're fightingfor the, the bmf title.
(34:31):
So they go through the wholefight.
At one point, halloway got hisheel on gaethje's nose and just
oh, destroyed it.
And gaethje I it just showedthe toughness of the dude.
I mean, his mouth is wide openthe whole fight.
He can't breathe, he'sconstantly spitting and snorting
(34:51):
out blood, his eyes are messedup, he can't see anything.
And so, you know, at the veryend of the fight, he starts
doing some weird flip kicks andstuff like that, trying to catch
him off guard.
And Holloway literally pointsat him and points at the middle
of the octagon, points at theground, said no, we're going to
finish this right here in themiddle, and with like 10 seconds
(35:11):
left, these guys just startthrowing haymakers at each other
.
I think I saw videos.
And then gaethje, with onesecond left just folds, like max
just absolutely dominated himand it was one of the coolest
fights I had seen in a long time.
You gotta love it when they justit has to be a fantastic finish
(35:33):
.
I'm not gonna.
I mean, I've had michael fieldon here and stuff, and I am not
ever going to talk anythingagainst jujitsu because it is a
weird game of folding laundrywith people still inside the
clothes.
You know I've said that before, but that's the best way I've
ever heard it explained.
But there is something to besaid for two guys.
(35:54):
I want to stand up and brawl, yeah, like a whole freaking
fight.
I just, yeah, you just want towatch them, you know, and old
school drunken boxing and we'reback to violence.
You know we don't want to bepart of a bar fight, but we want
to be there when it goes off, yeah.
So I thought that was cool.
And then we had WrestleMania, which was amazing.
(36:14):
Cody Rhodes finally got thebelt showing, you know, his dad
old glory that he finally brokeRoman Reigns streak of being the
heavyweight champ, and thenBailey got her belt and just a
lot of cool stuff happened atWrestleMania this year and it
(36:35):
was the coolest damn thing whenyou're watching that main event
and then all of a suddenoutcomes.
John Cena, you know it was likewhat the hell's going on, you
know.
And then the rock comes out andhaven't seen it.
You know they had beef for along time.
And then the rock comes out andheaven, cena, you know they had
beef for a long time.
But then the rock takes out, cena.
(36:56):
Then all of a sudden you hearthe undertaker's gong and the
whole, and the lights go out.
You're just like no, and Istarted screaming while carly
was just like what are you soexcited about?
It's like he's better.
I mean, he was the coolest guygrowing up.
He always, always is, yeah.
And so he makes an appearanceat WrestleMania and he's there
for like five seconds to pick upand chokeslam the rock and then
(37:19):
he turned off the lights andhe's gone again.
Whoa, it's so scripted and goofyand cheesy, but it's so fun to
watch, so cool.
To me, wrestlemania is kind oflike If you follow the storyline
, you can get real invested init and it's really entertaining.
Yes and no, like I said, I'vegone to some local wrestling
(37:41):
stuff and it's a lot of fun.
But to me, even if you'resomeone Because you're going to
have your people that won Notwrestling.
It's fake, it's scripted.
Because you're going to haveyour people that won not
wrestling.
It's fake, it's scripted, it'sstupid.
I don't like it.
I don't want to watch it.
Okay, get you good Bye.
Then you got your diehards.
They know every storyline aboutevery person.
They know every character theyever played their best era,
(38:02):
their best era.
They have all the actionfigures.
They remember certain fights.
They've got the ring, thelittle tiny ring you put all
your fingers in.
They were all about it.
And then there's people like me,right in the middle of the road
.
I appreciate it, but no, I'mnot going to do it.
Yeah, exactly, but to me I'mlike that person that doesn't
(38:23):
watch football but watches theSuper Bowl every year.
So I don't watch a whole lot ofwrestling throughout the year,
but I watch WrestleMania becauseyou get caught up on the
storylines and you see theamount of production and time
and work.
And ever since they've giventhe company back to Triple H and
Stephanie and kind of phasedVince out of the picture.
(38:45):
No, we won't.
We won't speak on Vince.
I mean, they brought back CMPunk.
They've created that storylinefor wrestlemania.
That was amazing and uh, okay,I'm done with professional
wrestling, but it was a lot offun to watch you.
Just, even if it's not yourthing and I say this all the
(39:06):
time on the show if it's notyour thing, but you see people
put work into it and enjoy itand it makes them tick and it
makes them excited, then thatmakes me excited like I want to
go be part of it.
Now, you know I there's.
Don't hate on it just becauseyou don't and you don't get it.
You don't understand.
Don't hate it.
Just walk away, go with it.
(39:26):
Just if you don't like it, justleave it.
It's fine.
It's like listening to.
Don't need to put music aroundpeople.
It's people like okay, that's,that's nice, but I don't want to
listen to it.
It's not my thing.
Not my thing.
You know metalheads.
It's not really scary.
They'll understand that shitoff.
Someone stabbed him in thethroat with a.
(39:47):
There are some guys sounds likeyour brother and your sister
fighting and someone got a catby the tail swinging it above
their head, while some guys aresons of biatches.
Yeah, okay, dad, we get it.
You don't like it.
He likes drums.
He likes the drums.
So yeah, tell me, he likesdouble kick bass.
(40:10):
Needless to say, we've come alittle ways in our open
mindedness.
Being open really opens up To alot of things.
It's really cool.
So thanks again for tuning inand listening to this.
We've had a lot of fun withthis.
A lot of cool things have goneon and we haven't really had a
(40:32):
chance to get together and coverit.
But it's just two idiot dudesum in the middle of west central
illinois and their take onsports and blah, blah, blah.
And you might be like, okay, these guys have no idea what
they're talking about and you'reright.
