Speaker 1 (00:00):
Three, up, two across, tap that play button three times,
and walk through the archway into Dialogue Alley. Hello, and

(00:22):
welcome to Dialogue ALI, the Official Potter Collector podcast about
Harry Potter books, book translations, and all other things magical.

Speaker 2 (00:31):
I'm Eric, I'm Carly, and I'm Melanie, and the three
of us are Harry Potter book translation collectors, which means
we collect Harry Potter books from all over the world.

Speaker 1 (00:44):
And we would like to welcome you to episode seventeen
of season five of our podcast. And today we're going
to talk about something super fun. It's the end of
the school year June fourth, So Melanie works in a school.
I work in a school.

Speaker 2 (01:04):
I was an instructor, so that's true.

Speaker 1 (01:07):
Carly Todd at a school. So we're going to do
a little yearbook action today relating to Harry Potter books.
So it's just going to be a nice, quick, fun
episode which I think everyone will enjoy. So we're skipping
the translation of the show this week because we're going
to be talking about fifteen different books during our main segment.

(01:31):
I figure that we'll cover the translations for the show,
but we actually do have some important news that we
want to briefly mentioned because it's kind of a big deal.

Speaker 3 (01:47):
It is a big deal. Oh that's me. So the

(02:16):
cast for the TV show, like the Harry Ron Hermione
cast for the TV show, the HBO show has been announced.

Speaker 2 (02:24):
Like that's big news, big news.

Speaker 3 (02:27):
I'm really excited. I feel like it's really fun to what.
I don't know why I'm shouting other than I'm really excited.
I feel like it's fun to get to kind of
rewatch this again.

Speaker 2 (02:37):
You know.

Speaker 3 (02:38):
There's a little bit of nostalgia involved and a lot
of just anticipation and excitement and seeing what if they're
gonna put in our favorite moments, like you know, the Dursleys,
when the Weasley family comes in book four, Like I've
wanted to see that for years, like twenty years.

Speaker 4 (03:00):
But you still might have to wait years because that's yeah.

Speaker 3 (03:03):
As long as I know there's an endgame, you know,
because we talked about getting to see that in the
illustrated edition and that didn't happen, and then we talked about,
you know, hopefully how Mina Lima would do it in
their book four, which isn't going to happen. So now
hopefully the show it's our last Hope.

Speaker 2 (03:21):
Well, I think I think what our big thought on
the show has kind of always been like the fact
that they keep advertising it as being like true to
the books, true of the books through the books, So
like some casting has been controversial and whatever. But I
will say I feel like these three kids that they
cast for Harry, Ron and Hermione look awesome. I personally

(03:47):
think they look awesome.

Speaker 4 (03:49):
Yep, I agree, yeah, and they they look the part.

Speaker 1 (03:56):
Like that's it's so weird to say, like you don't
want to like pigeon someone into a role based on appearances.
But with the amount of descriptions that you know, we
have regarding those three characters, I know they fit like
every word that describes them in the book. They meet
that so that's great.

Speaker 4 (04:17):
And I.

Speaker 3 (04:19):
Don't know, I'm excited.

Speaker 1 (04:20):
I'm not like over the moon about these people because
I've never.

Speaker 3 (04:24):
Seen anything they've done. Yeah, I don't know them at all.
I've never seen anything they've been.

Speaker 4 (04:28):
A part of.

Speaker 1 (04:29):
Just like when we got the John Lithgow Dumbledore announcement,
like I'm just like, hey, that's gonna be cool. Yeah,
let's see how they do this. Just so like they
showed these three kids and I'm like, Yep, that looks
good to me. Hope they're good. Yeah, it looks it
looks like they are on the right track.

Speaker 4 (04:44):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (04:46):
Yeah, let's uh see what happens.

Speaker 3 (04:49):
Stay too, I mean, I mean, I'm excited. So that's
exciting that that's that's done, because I know a lot
of people were wondering when and you know, part of
we I was wondering what if they don't do it,
you know, because then it's just a big publicity thing
without a show really coming to light. But it looks
like it's really coming together.

Speaker 2 (05:10):
Yeah, seems so.

Speaker 1 (05:14):
Yeah, they're moving in the right direction to have a
show ready to be released a couple of years from now.

Speaker 2 (05:24):
It would appear it would appear that way, wouldn't it.

Speaker 1 (05:27):
Yes, it would appear that way, which is good. That's
good news.

Speaker 3 (05:31):
Other than Eric, I, Eric has I've got good news.
Eric has good news.

Speaker 1 (05:39):
Carly, what's your good news? Because I don't know, I
don't even know your good news.

Speaker 2 (05:42):
I'm super excited.

Speaker 3 (05:43):
I got a great deal on what we call the
third State first print Prisoner of Azkaban. It's really like
more than likely probably the Australian first print of Prisoner
of Azkaban, but for so many years it's been roped
on into like the Bloomsbury Third State, but it's at
the state first print of the Prisoner of Basketban. I'm
really excited. I found it in Australia and it came

(06:06):
to me all the way from Australia in like only
six days. The seller was super nice, super fast, book
was packed so well. It was such a great transaction,
and it was such a great bargain of it, Like
the book is in great condition. I and I'm just
super super super thrilled to have one back in my collection.
I don't know how long I'm gonna keep it, but

(06:29):
the fact is I own it right now.

Speaker 4 (06:33):
There you go.

Speaker 1 (06:34):
And I we're all big fans of smooth, efficient, wonderful transactions.

Speaker 3 (06:40):
And it was that, like it was great.

Speaker 1 (06:44):
Which is awesome because that's the that's what I have
to share too. And I mean, Melanie, maybe I'll start
telling this and then you jump in where you come in,
because it's.

Speaker 2 (06:55):
It's like a person two parts of a story.

Speaker 4 (06:59):
Yeah. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (07:00):
And so in February, in one of the Facebook groups
that people post that they have Harry Potter things for sale.
In this gentleman posted that he had a book that
looked really appealing to me at a price that looked
also very appealing to me. The problem was is that

(07:22):
it was a seller that nobody had heard of, and
it was an American book, and the seller was in Mexico.
So you know, there's just kind of like some it's
not like weird, but it'd be like someone like that
had like a Greenlandic book in Kazakhstan or something, or like, well,
how did that end up there? Because this was a

(07:45):
first printing of a first edition of the US hardcover
Sorcerer's Stone, which like I just would find that, like,
that's kind of random for someone in Mexico.

Speaker 2 (07:57):
How did you get there? How'd you get in Mexico?

Speaker 4 (07:59):
Yeah, how'd you get there?

Speaker 1 (08:00):
And so I messaged the seller and we were we
were talking, and it didn't really go anywhere because at
the time the price was like to like more than
I wanted to spend. So it's kind of like the
conversation is kind of fizzled out. I never continued, and
I don't I don't think anyone really continued the conversation,

(08:21):
and then I just completely forgot about it.

Speaker 4 (08:23):
And then fast forward to.

Speaker 2 (08:24):
About what like a or so, yeah, about a month ago.

Speaker 1 (08:28):
Like, yeah, a little over a month ago, and that
that's where Melanie comes in.

Speaker 2 (08:33):
So I'm going to preface this by saying constant vigilance always, right, Like,
we're always going to be the first ones to say,
do your research when it comes to a book like this,
especially if it's an expensive book. You know it's an
expensive book, or it should be an expensive book, do
your research, look, feel, feel out the situation, put out feelers,

(08:56):
and like get a vibe for what the situation is.
It just so happened that this same seller had made
a post in one of these groups that Eric and
I I'm pretty sure Carly as well, we're all in
on Facebook for Harry Potter Book Collectors selling the book
for an unspokenly low price.

Speaker 1 (09:20):
But you know what, but regarding that price, it was
lowered because it didn't sell earlier, right, because I didn't
want to pay. And there is also like a risk
factor involved too, because more often than not, and we
see something that's too good to be true, it often
usually is. And we're not the only ones that think

(09:43):
that as well. So for some reason, this book had
just been sitting there and no one, no one wanted it.

Speaker 2 (09:50):
And it's because every everyone kind of had the vibe
that like, oh, this, this guy must be scamming people.
The situation it's too good to be true. There's no
way that he's selling this book for this price. So
everyone was avoiding this guy. So I I messaged immediately

(10:10):
within three minutes of the book being posted on this group,
because I wanted to feel out the situation for myself,
ask the right questions, engage in a conversation with another
human being about this book, and really kind of like
feel what the situation was. He turned out to be
an incredibly wonderful and educated individual when it came to

(10:33):
this book. He just needed some money. He kept lowering
the price because he just needed He wanted money for it,
and it wasn't the valid he said.

Speaker 4 (10:42):
He didn't need it like he did it.

Speaker 2 (10:44):
He didn't need the book.

Speaker 1 (10:46):
It turns out that he got it at a flea
market for nothing. Oh so anything he sold it for
was a profit for him.

Speaker 2 (10:53):
Like it turns out also he's like he's like a
rare art dealer sort of thing, or here in rare
art was what he was telling me. So every so often,
Like he knows people that come into Harry Potter stuff
every so often. So he knew what he had was rare,
but he just wanted to get something for it. So

(11:16):
looking at this book, I was like, this because dialogue
ally especially Eric written all over it. It's Eric's kind
of book. It's an ex library book like Eric, Eric
loves him. He loves a loved book. Like there's just
something about a love book. So I messaged the guy
right away. I messaged Eric. I was like, Eric, I
found I found your book, Like I know that you

(11:38):
want this book. I found it talking to this guy.
And at the price that we ended up figuring out
for it, it was worth the risk. It was worth
the risk of being like, well, we could lose this
money because it could be a scam, or we could

(11:59):
pay this amount of money, which wasn't too crazy of
an amount and it could be big reward at the
end of the day.

Speaker 4 (12:08):
It wasn't.

Speaker 1 (12:08):
It's like, it's not like it was ten dollars, right,
Like this was still money that more than people would
like to spend on a used book, right, So it
was still like a risk that you're like, huh, yeah,
willing to lose this much money, But then you think
about all the other times that like, wow, I landed
in a story in book for thirty dollars on Amazon,

(12:32):
Like I just saved a bunch of money there, So
like this just gives and takes and all of that stuff.

Speaker 2 (12:37):
So just in messaging back and forth with them, he
was sending me pictures and videos of every single step
of the packaging process, the mailing process, making sure that
he had the address correct. He was sending me a
video of himself with the book, flipping through the books
so I could see the copyright page, closing the book,
sticking it into the envelope, pointing out the address on
the envelope, handing it to the mail carrier, and like

(13:00):
saying bye bye book, like see it, good luck at
your new home. Like essentially doing all it was all
the right things. It felt very good after the fact,
being able to go back to the Facebook group with
all the people saying like it's a scam, red flag
watch out, this is definitely a scam and being like no, actually,
this guy is a really nice guy and he was

(13:21):
just trying to sell a book and ha ha on you,
like we got this book for an awesome price.

Speaker 3 (13:28):
It was a great deal. I'm so glad that we
all were a part of that.

Speaker 2 (13:32):
Uh Oh, I am just insane.

Speaker 4 (13:35):
I'm over the moon.

Speaker 1 (13:36):
Like it more so because of the this like the
journey of getting it too, Like it wasn't.

Speaker 3 (13:43):
It's a fun story, like like.

Speaker 1 (13:45):
Like you said, like just finding finding someone that's totally legit,
nice person selling the book that people are doubting.

Speaker 3 (13:52):
I know, for me, like a great story attached to
like a book makes that book even more special to me.
And it comes like sentimental in its own way, even
though I may have not bought the book at the
bookstore kind of thing. Like it's a fun story. So
it means a lot to me because of that absolutely,
and I love story. It just makes the books, like

(14:13):
I can. I've got so many great bookstory getting our book,
getting books as we all do. Anyone that gets done
it for any length of time gets has great stories.
It's just part of this.

Speaker 2 (14:24):
This one was like that was one of my favorites
at the end of the day, just.

Speaker 3 (14:27):
Because well I love how around the world it was.

Speaker 2 (14:31):
That and also like it's not my book, but just
the fact that like I got to be a part
of Eric getting this like monumental book in his collection
like that.

Speaker 3 (14:42):
And it's and it's such an Eric fitting book, Like
after seeing it, it's a great book for Eric.

Speaker 4 (14:49):
We all know I like trash.

Speaker 1 (14:51):
No, I'm kidding no, but that's like I would get
the same feeling helping any of you guys or anyone
like in our discord looking for something like helping them
find it. That's a good feeling that that's hard of
what makes this community fun because well, it's just you know, it's.

Speaker 3 (15:11):
It's one of my favorite moments.

Speaker 1 (15:13):
The thing that someone's been looking for that they're going
to be really happy with. And that's it's all about
being happy. It's not like a bone.

Speaker 3 (15:20):
No, yeah, that's that's why we do what we do.
I think one of my favorite stories too, is you
were just talking about how you really wanted an arc,
a Sorcerer's Stone a arc, but you weren't going to
pay X amount of dollars and one popped up, Oh yeah, wonderfully,
and you know it was great and it's.

Speaker 1 (15:35):
Like here you go, yeah, like three days after we
talked about it, and you're like, hey, you should buy
this one.

Speaker 3 (15:41):
This has your name all over it.

Speaker 2 (15:42):
Well, I feel like we had just talked about, like
you getting this book, Eric, because you were like, oh,
I finally got the book that I've been wanting for
so long, and I was like, oh, like first first
Sorcerer's Stone and you were like, no, but I actually
really want that book too. I don't even remember what.

Speaker 1 (16:00):
The other book was, but there was the Russian Orange.

Speaker 2 (16:02):
Oh yeah, right exactly. So I'm like, oh, I guess
we just like manifested it and this book was just
destined to find you essentially. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (16:11):
Well, and it was hilarious because I was driving when
you were texting me, so I had to call you.

Speaker 4 (16:15):
I like, I can't message this guy right now, please
do it for me.

Speaker 2 (16:18):
I'm on it. I'm on this. I am on this.

Speaker 1 (16:20):
And when I was able to look at the pictures,
I'm like, I know that's this. I have a message
thread with that guy, like we were talking about it
and I had like.

Speaker 2 (16:27):
But I had like a friend message me like on
the side that saw me like interacting. They were like, wow,
Mel you're quick, because literally minutes after that was posted,
I was on it like that. I was like, you
know what, this is worth the risk for me? Like
where we're going for this and that's how you have
to do though like that.

Speaker 1 (16:45):
Yeah, So within a year then I acquired a first printing,
first edition Philosopher's Stone from the UK.

Speaker 4 (16:54):
Had a great couple and then yeah, I have.

Speaker 1 (16:57):
A first first US Sorceress Stone, which I'm not that
wasn't my collection initially, Like I'm always just casually looking
for those things. I'm not devastated if I don't get one.
But then like a couple. This is a couple of
months ago, Mike had messaged me and said, hey, I
have a book that I'm going to.

Speaker 4 (17:13):
Sell to you.

Speaker 1 (17:15):
I'm like, okay, And it was the first first Bloomsberry
Chamber of Secrets hardcover in eric condition, and I.

Speaker 3 (17:22):
Like how it's conditioned.

Speaker 1 (17:23):
I'm like, Eric, yeah, but I'm like, yeah, that looks
like something i'd want. And the price he gave me was,
you know, it was not nothing, but it was it
was a you know, a good deal for what it was,
and it wasn't ridiculously high because those books in really
good condition can sell for a lot of money, like yeah,

(17:44):
sometimes in better shape and more than first printings of
certain books. Anyway, So yeah, so we're going back and forth,
and he messaged me again like hey, we thought about
this one anymore? And I'm like, yeah, I'm pretty interested.
Like let me just you know, talk to my wife,
moved some stuff around, we just bought some airline tickets,

(18:05):
YadA YadA. Just find a good time.

Speaker 4 (18:07):
To buy it.

Speaker 1 (18:08):
And he texted me like a day later and he's like, hey,
I mailed it to you, so just pay me. I'm like, Okay,
well I guess I'm I'm I'm locked into this now.

Speaker 3 (18:19):
So I love this.

Speaker 1 (18:23):
Blooms very arrived, which that's awesome. Was not my radar
as being something in my collection.

Speaker 2 (18:29):
But when like it's well and it's it's it's rare,
it's rare.

Speaker 3 (18:34):
And when it's a casual acquisition like that, it's even
more fun.

Speaker 4 (18:39):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (18:39):
So I'm just excited about that. And I know we
have a couple of things coming in our Discord. We
did some group orders about the new Spanish cover with
the red.

Speaker 4 (18:48):
Cover, so mine should be on the way.

Speaker 1 (18:52):
Carli pre ordered some of the new check books and.

Speaker 4 (18:56):
Discord already got one and posted pictures of it. And
it looks awesome. It's like a stellar seems like cool.

Speaker 1 (19:02):
These cool things that are just happening, you know, throughout
the year, and I kind of like that when it's
just kind of unexpected, because it's not like you're getting
your hopes up for something and it doesn't happen.

Speaker 4 (19:12):
It's just something nice comes along.

Speaker 3 (19:13):
The new French book last month too, the new cupboard,
the new large large edition French with the different they
they dropped at the end of May.

Speaker 2 (19:24):
I have already bought one.

Speaker 3 (19:26):
I'm only allowing myself book one because I'm not a
crazy person.

Speaker 4 (19:32):
Well, so that's good restraint. I'm proud of you.

Speaker 3 (19:34):
Well, I'm changing my collection. That was part of what
I talked about in my last video. But like I
want to do more of the rare inside stuff, so
slowly going that way.

Speaker 1 (19:42):
Only fourth printings of half Blood prints.

Speaker 2 (19:45):
Yeah, I've been like dabbling with that also, like kind
of wanting to I want to like simplify my collection.
I feel like at this point I have a lot
of books that like don't spark joy in the same way,
and I want to go back and like narrow my
collection down to books that spark joy. So I want

(20:07):
to sell a lot and use that money to buy
the ones that I really want. All the safe book
I want. So I just need to like organize my room,
put piles of books of like the books that I'm
like looking and ready to part with and mm hmm

(20:29):
cracking down.

Speaker 3 (20:31):
Yeah, I've been looking around my room every time I'm
in it, going Okay, what gets to stay?

Speaker 2 (20:36):
What gets to go? Like, do I know it'll be
the paperback Dutch books if I have the hardcover.

Speaker 3 (20:43):
Set, Like you know, I've already landed on yes for me.
When I went to go list them and take pictures,
I was like, but they're so cute and because I
have the hardcover set, like I don't need both, but
I want both. But no, I don't and neither do you,
but I want will also probably keep.

Speaker 1 (21:00):
Them my My philosophy of some of that stuff is
if someone in our discord has them, I'm happy, Like
I don't need all of the sets of all of
the Japanese books.

Speaker 2 (21:13):
You have a very wonderful idea, right, Like I don't
need like the paperback German original cover art.

Speaker 4 (21:19):
If I have the hard writer exactly and so like.

Speaker 1 (21:22):
But if someone has them and they like it, that's
great because like I it's it's like.

Speaker 4 (21:28):
We're like one big collecting collaborative. We each have our
own things, and.

Speaker 3 (21:34):
I don't need the with the German covers, I just
really love them because the German art is fun, but
it is redundant.

Speaker 2 (21:43):
And now I'm looking I'm looking at all my books and.

Speaker 3 (21:45):
I'm like, yeah, we can sit and chat about it
later if you're going too, because I'm doing similar things.

Speaker 1 (21:51):
We can, but we could we can also podcast too, Yeah,
we can podcast. Ready, we's Melanie, why are you counting
like we're starting a race.

Speaker 2 (22:05):
Because for our main segment, we are doing fifteen superlatives
in fifteen minutes on your mark. Wait, hold on, I
want to start like a timer.

Speaker 3 (22:15):
Actually, I also love how we had like forty five
minutes of news and fifteen minutes of main segment.

Speaker 4 (22:23):
It's happening by fifteen superlatives.

Speaker 1 (22:26):
We mean, like, you know, when you have this is
probably a very American thing. So if you're not American,
that's why I will give you a little explanation. So
when we graduate or not graduate, but like when we're
in high school, you can get a yearbook, which is
like a big solid book and it's got pictures of
all the kids in your grade, in your class, it's

(22:47):
got you know, pages with all the sports teams for
your school and the clubs and the bands and the
just student groups and stuff, as well as just like
pictures of events that happened in the year.

Speaker 4 (22:59):
And sometimes they'll be like a.

Speaker 1 (23:03):
Little page where you know, they usually like pull a
student body and they're like who has the best hair.

Speaker 2 (23:12):
Class musician, most likely to be musical.

Speaker 1 (23:16):
Yeah, and it's it's it's not like serious. They're not like,
oh my gosh, like we have to big reality TV
contest and Melanie has the best hair, like we got
scientific about it.

Speaker 4 (23:31):
Now.

Speaker 1 (23:31):
It's very subjective and oftentimes it's like not, it's like
funny because it's so wrong, like like a bald kid
that buzzed his hair every day for like best hair
or something like it's funny.

Speaker 4 (23:43):
So we're doing.

Speaker 1 (23:45):
That with with book covers or Harry Potter books that
we have, so that that that's where this comes from.
It's not just like we came up with this random
list of things.

Speaker 4 (23:57):
It is, but we want to do it in fifteen books.

Speaker 2 (24:00):
Fifteen books in fifteen minutes. I'm setting a timer on
your mark, Get set go. Okay, So for our main segment,
like Eric said, we're doing our end of the year superlatives.
Our first superlative goes to most likely to hang in
Dumbledore's office, and by that what we mean is some
sort of elegant, artistic, mysterious type of vibe cover that

(24:22):
has that kind of art. And the winner of that
superlative we decided would be Japanese Japanese cover art. Hooray
because it looks I feel shd you feel, Carly? You

(24:43):
thought that you were going to make announced the cover, girl,
don't worry, it's it's in there. It's in there, I promise,
don't worry. Don't worry.

Speaker 1 (24:53):
Carl would the same book for every category, but I.

Speaker 3 (24:58):
Like more covers than that.

Speaker 4 (25:01):
No, we talked about Japanese books. The art is just
so like like.

Speaker 1 (25:07):
That sounds so redundant, but it looks like something that
you would hang on the wall, regardless of it.

Speaker 2 (25:12):
Being the first edition Japanese or the first edition. Daner
ones that's the one number two most likely to be
a forbidden book in the restricted section. This would be
that's a little bit edgy, a little bit creepy vibes
the award. What do you think, Carly, what do you

(25:39):
think it should be.

Speaker 4 (25:40):
I was a Persian. I can see that.

Speaker 2 (25:45):
I can see that being like edgy. Whatever, what is.

Speaker 4 (25:48):
This even in this book? Okay, no wonder it's back here.

Speaker 2 (25:52):
I think it would be Atlantic. It's very edgy, you know,
he's like a woozy. It looks like a Harry Potter book.

Speaker 3 (26:03):
The Persian one looks like I'm not sure what so
I think I agree with Icelandic first. It's just Persian
crossed through my mind.

Speaker 2 (26:11):
It makes sense, It's okay, you know, It's just that
was the vibe that we were thinking. All right. Number
three best glow up from the original UK edition. So
take the original UK cover art, which one upgraded the
book the most. This is a tricky one. I put
the Deluxe Bloomsberry edition because I just feel like it

(26:35):
took that cover art and made it nicer. But I
don't know if you guys can think of a book
that originally came out with Thomas Taylor art that then
went to art in a different direction that made it better.

Speaker 1 (26:48):
I mean, the Valencian when they do the color swap
is a little kind of cool.

Speaker 4 (26:52):
That's fun. That's a glow up.

Speaker 3 (26:55):
I really love the Luxembourgish hardcover because it has the
Thomas Taylor with that wonderful border. I think because I
don't care for the deluxe editions, they don't do any.

Speaker 2 (27:09):
Let's no, I like that. I like that better look
some Orgish cool. Love that vibe, all right. Number four
Most dramatic depiction of magic dual spells effects. I picked
the Scholastic School Market edition. I love the swoosh of
magic that's right on the front of that cover. I

(27:31):
think is is very it's very just magical like that.
It's the moment that Harry Furst holds.

Speaker 3 (27:39):
A because Wizards is one.

Speaker 2 (27:42):
Yeah, you know, so I find that to be most magical. Guys,
we really do have to do this quick because my
computer just said that it wants to die. Okay.

Speaker 4 (27:51):
Number I was I was gonna say, Melanie.

Speaker 1 (27:53):
My runner up for that would be the unauthorized Burmese
one with the lightning shooting out.

Speaker 3 (27:59):
Yeah a good one.

Speaker 4 (28:01):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (28:02):
Most likely to be mistaken for a horror novel. This
one we talk about all the time.

Speaker 4 (28:08):
Oh yeah, it's creepy.

Speaker 2 (28:10):
Oh yeah, Danish half Blood Prints is super super creepy.
Would absolutely win. Like this one would be like under
the stairs, like peeking out as you were like trying
to get to class.

Speaker 4 (28:20):
You got dead bodies crawling out of a lake.

Speaker 3 (28:23):
Yeah, that's that's a creepy book.

Speaker 1 (28:25):
Vengeance in their eyes, eye sockets, the corpses.

Speaker 2 (28:29):
It's pretty scary. Most Hufflepuff cover of all time, and
as Hufflepuff, I have a specific reason why I picked
this one, and it's not going to be the books
that we talked about last week, the one that's actually
liked that. I actually picked the Hungarian Indiana Jones book.
It's like the earthy woodsy vibe.

Speaker 3 (28:51):
It is designed by a Hufflepuff.

Speaker 2 (28:54):
No, but for sure it's like Harry kind of looks
wind swept like. I just feel like it's so hufflepuffy
to me. That book is very like a Hufflepuff on design.
That cover. Yeah, most minimalist, this number seven, most minimalist
and mysterious. I don't know if this is very mysterious,
but minimalist I thought was good. Also, I originally put

(29:20):
Lithuanian for this Carly, however I switched it to oh
that's good.

Speaker 4 (29:26):
Yeah, I thought of that one for this one too.

Speaker 1 (29:28):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (29:29):
I was also thinking, all right, I'm gonna I'm gonna
take this those.

Speaker 4 (29:31):
Of the new the New Estonian cover, the.

Speaker 2 (29:34):
New Estonian covers, they're.

Speaker 4 (29:36):
Like minimal, but they're very metric.

Speaker 2 (29:39):
Yeah yeah, yeah, no, those ones are really cool. I
do love those ones a lot. Okay, Number eight most likely,
Oh we're doing We're doing pretty good on time. Most
likely to be a tattoo. I put the ali Moas
Philosopher's Stone, the owl on that it's just like literally
the owl with I thought that that one seemed very

(30:02):
like tattoo esque.

Speaker 4 (30:04):
It does.

Speaker 3 (30:05):
And even the Oli Moss like ordered like their phoenix
on the book five.

Speaker 2 (30:10):
I just think any of those. I just think anything
by ali Mos would be a good tattoo. You know,
this one's kind of funny. Most wait is that even
Harry moment? There are two good ones for this. Eric
wanted the Oxytan Philosopher's Stone understandable because what is that?

Speaker 1 (30:36):
I also, where in the description of Harry do they
say and he had rosy cheeks like he came in
from a cold winter's day.

Speaker 2 (30:46):
Also, I mean, yeah, that is really good. I put
the first state Italian because Harry's not even wearing his glasses,
Like what even is that?

Speaker 4 (30:57):
Like?

Speaker 2 (30:58):
Is that even? Wait? Is that Harry because it just
looks like a boy with a rat on his head.

Speaker 4 (31:02):
Yeah, I like that too.

Speaker 3 (31:04):
I honestly didn't know the Icelandic cover was Harry until
like three years ago.

Speaker 2 (31:09):
See, you know, I thought it was a kid with a.

Speaker 3 (31:13):
Forehead bump.

Speaker 2 (31:15):
It's an honorable, honorable mention, all right, a number number ten.
We're doing great here. Best use of a hippogriff in
a supporting role. There is only one answer for this.

Speaker 4 (31:30):
There is only one.

Speaker 2 (31:34):
Answer for this, and it's sweetish prison of ras man like.
It's that is the best hippogriff on my shelves. I
have over seven hundred books on the shelves. That is
the best hippogriph by far. It's unbelievable. I know, I know,
I know.

Speaker 4 (31:53):
That's a beautiful good too.

Speaker 2 (31:54):
Walk is a beautiful hippogriff. However, the hippograph that is
on Swedish is unmatched. I am so sorry.

Speaker 4 (32:00):
I know, I agree, I agree.

Speaker 2 (32:01):
Yeah, look at that.

Speaker 4 (32:03):
It's done in Donning.

Speaker 2 (32:04):
It's done in most likely to be a magical movie poster,
and the award goes It's not an award, it's just
most likely to uh Lithuanian like Lithuanian is going to be.
That's a movie poster. It would be hanging up on
Carly's wall.

Speaker 4 (32:23):
Yeah, it's all abstract, but it abstract.

Speaker 1 (32:27):
It zooms into the door and Harry's sitting in the
door with a light like not even facing the front.

Speaker 4 (32:32):
You can only see like the sides of well done.

Speaker 1 (32:35):
It's just you can just picture like at the bottom
of that, like Coming Spring two thousand.

Speaker 4 (32:40):
And five, like ye, yeah it would be you.

Speaker 1 (32:43):
Know, or like a little tag line on there, like
what it waits behind the door.

Speaker 3 (32:48):
I love everything about the moment that I was depicted,
So yeah, I agree.

Speaker 2 (32:53):
Amazing best cover for a Muggle coffee table book honestly,
I and not not just covered, because you know, I
always am thinking about like the top scale as well
with this whole situation, but like size and proportion for
a coffee table book. I think a Jim k illustrated

(33:17):
edition is like the perfect book to have on your
coffee table. That is a big book. It's a conversation starter.
You have so much artwork going on through the book.
Seeh I thought about that, but then I was like,
it's deluxe, Like what if someone puts a drink on
top of it, like I would be a little bit
to slide it down.

Speaker 3 (33:37):
They could put put a drink on the top of
the jacket too.

Speaker 2 (33:42):
But you could just go to Barnes and Noble and
get another one. It's not like the Deluxe when you
have to spend like X amount of dollars to get
a new deluxe book.

Speaker 4 (33:49):
And get your coffee off my book.

Speaker 2 (33:54):
Seriously, this is so expensive. Number thirteen mostly to be
the class clown, a nice, quirky, silly book. Obviously. Again,
I feel like there's only one answer, and that answer
is finish. It has to be the finish cover. Oh yeah,
it's just Harry is so ridiculous on those covers.

Speaker 3 (34:18):
And I would say any of those, any such exaggerated
features in any of the seven covers would be great.

Speaker 4 (34:23):
Yeah, any of them.

Speaker 2 (34:24):
Ye, any of the seven guys. We're doing great on time.
Here we have two left and we have four and
a half minutes.

Speaker 4 (34:31):
Oh my gosh, Okay, should we do we slow down?

Speaker 2 (34:34):
I don't know, or maybe it was the time that
we have left. We could do like a tots or something.

Speaker 1 (34:40):
We can want to do a bonus bonus where I
can talk about one of the books that I don't
see on the list.

Speaker 2 (34:45):
Amazing number fourteen best magical Realism vibes. I mean the
fact that it's got to number fourteen. We haven't mentioned
it yet, but here it is. It's the slow Bok
twentieth one Verse read books without a doubt magical realism.

Speaker 1 (35:04):
Not the not the Nepko Mongolian where it's just literally
the real actors.

Speaker 4 (35:09):
On the cover.

Speaker 2 (35:10):
Just the movie. I mean.

Speaker 4 (35:14):
The movie poster one too, because it's just.

Speaker 3 (35:16):
The have you seen that one?

Speaker 2 (35:19):
Yeah, that's pretty bad. Or also just Persian again, like
there's a dinosare on it. There's so real.

Speaker 3 (35:26):
I love the green face.

Speaker 1 (35:27):
That's a that's a way? Is that even Harry book
for the Chamber of Secrets.

Speaker 3 (35:31):
Mogoks like the illustrator got mad, like they couldn't use
what they wanted, so they just made him look like
an alien.

Speaker 1 (35:39):
I just always think of that one. I'm like, is
that really the best someone could do with a door?
It's like four logs and they're not even touching each other.
It's it's like, what's the point of the door. You
can see right through it.

Speaker 4 (35:51):
It's like, are you sure that five gaps?

Speaker 2 (35:53):
Thought there were broomsticks, broomsticks.

Speaker 4 (35:56):
I always thought it was a door.

Speaker 2 (35:57):
Maybe it's a door because it's the chamber, a room
like the chambers.

Speaker 1 (36:00):
I don't know, I don't know if that's the door
preventing the chamber of secrets.

Speaker 2 (36:04):
Yeah, Carly, we've got we've got three minutes and we
only have one category life. You can chose the cover
if that If that's the chamber, it is the door.

Speaker 4 (36:13):
Yeah, how has no one found it before? Now? If
that's the door of the chambers.

Speaker 2 (36:18):
No one liked in between, you don't even have to peak.

Speaker 4 (36:22):
You can just look at the door. You can see.

Speaker 2 (36:25):
Hold up? Is that a pretty snake?

Speaker 4 (36:28):
Is this? Does this door lead somewhere?

Speaker 2 (36:31):
Wait? Wait, wait, I just saw Genny Weasley doing something
sus with a bucket of blood. What's what's happening there?

Speaker 1 (36:39):
Or maybe at the door was so questionable? The people
are like, I don't dare walk through that door because.

Speaker 2 (36:44):
Wait a minute, what's Ginny doing with those chickens piking it?

Speaker 4 (36:50):
I'm peeking in there and I see some.

Speaker 2 (36:53):
Wait a minute stuff.

Speaker 3 (36:56):
I went to the Icy Dead People from that movie
for this sense when you said icye and I just
icee Dead People and it was like, oh no, that's
the worst inflation of everything.

Speaker 2 (37:07):
Oh my god, that movie traumatized me as a child.

Speaker 4 (37:10):
That was not me too.

Speaker 2 (37:11):
All right, Week fifteen and we have two minutes left
to talk about this number fifteen is the cover that
is most likely to have been designed by a raven claw.
We're talking intricate, we're talking intellectual, detailed or clever artwork
has to go to none other than Brian Selznik. I mean, Kemmen, Absolutely,

(37:37):
it is so stellar.

Speaker 1 (37:38):
It talk all the time about how this box set
it's designed in a way where they can stand on
their own or you can put them all together and
make one really long picture, because that's what it is.
It's one picture split up into seven books. I mean,
and how clever it is. When we talked about the
snake covers that episode were Karl's power went out. We

(38:02):
lost her after like minute twelve. Yeah, like you don't
realize like what this thing is until you get to
the end, or if you put them all out separately,
like it can look like something on one book but
then it's actually something else.

Speaker 2 (38:18):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (38:18):
I just love that it looks it's so thought out
and just well designed.

Speaker 2 (38:22):
They also it's the definition of detail, like the fact
that this is one image done in pencil, like just
so intensely done, like with a magnifying glass in order
to get every single detail picture perfect. Also, Brian Selznick

(38:43):
gives off major major Raven Club vibes like I wonder
if he is.

Speaker 1 (38:50):
Because that Scarfee wears that that was just look at him, like, just.

Speaker 2 (38:54):
Look at him? Wait does he does he have?

Speaker 4 (38:57):
He does it?

Speaker 1 (38:58):
Just all those it's all those spirit jerseys, those raven
class spirit jerseyss I was wearing around town.

Speaker 2 (39:07):
Totally two All right, guys, that was it those fifteen minutes.

Speaker 4 (39:10):
We did it.

Speaker 2 (39:12):
We did it amazing.

Speaker 1 (39:16):
Well, if you'd like to see what all of these
books look like, our friend Carly is going to post
a picture of all of them to our Instagram.

Speaker 4 (39:25):
I will, aren't you, Carly.

Speaker 3 (39:27):
It says that he identifies as a hufflepuff and not
a raven Claw, at least according to the AI answer.

Speaker 2 (39:37):
What I know hopes we're shattered.

Speaker 3 (39:41):
I know, well he took he fooled us.

Speaker 2 (39:46):
Possibly wait message you should, sure you should message him?

Speaker 4 (39:52):
And you.

Speaker 3 (39:55):
Yeah, the box that is such a great detailed like
he's such annoy I love how so many of our
podcast episodes discuss how great of an illustrator he is,
but it's true.

Speaker 4 (40:07):
He really is. It is true.

Speaker 2 (40:09):
Big fan, big, big, big fan, Big Brian sealsnic fan.
