The Dietitian Values podcast is a space for conversations that go beyond lip speak, challenge the status quo and, bring us together to learn and unlearn in connection and community. Join me, Laura Jean Dietitian by trade and weirdo at heart, as I chat to insightful guests, brain dump my thoughts and start those kind of conversations where we'll probably end up with more questions than answers. Let's create a space for encouraging and inspiring accountable action.
So, marketing maybe makes you feel some sort of way, or....
perhaps you feel like you are no good at marketing, or....
perhaps you aren't sure how to market in a way that feels comfortable?
There are so many reasons why marketing can feel 'icky' when you don't know how to do it in a way that's grounded in your values.
A way that's about being authentic and easeful.
And that's exactly what we are diving into in this four part serie...
Hello hello there, join me for a little check in & life update.
I'm also offering up my seasonal noticing and sharing how it impacts my business and work. I hope that this regular practising of sharing this will invite you to do some noticing of your own AND over time, shift things in your business/work where you need, to make it more you-centred.
Let's dive in.

And I wanted to talk to that today and give you a place to ground in if you resonate with either of those questions in any way.
What we'll cover in this episode:

Often in the world of business-as-usual we are presented with options and decisions that lead to pendulum swinging.
Either or decision making.
You're either getting with the program and leaving your values behind (or simply not having the space or time to consider them) OR you're feeling like to choose your values you have to swing in a whole other direction.
Good vs bad. Right vs wrong. This or that. Business savvy or not.
BUT what if...
Business growth is an often purported term that has become defined by expectations of continual growth, 'more, more, more' and a constant state of doing business.
But is constant growth even possible?
In todays' episode we are diving into things:
- defining growing and growth
- looking to nature for example of growth
- challenging some of the preconceived 'facts' about growth in the status-quo-upholding business spaces (and highlighting...
Planting a seed for reflection, curiosity and a critical analysis today (something different!).
You may have internalised messages and programming that tell you that certain things are for everyone else, but not for you. So let's bust that BS hey?
In this episode we'll cover:
- how to get curious about what you've been asked to believe about what is and isn't for you
- values disconnects and layering that lead to you turning your value...
Do you accept the cycles of your motivation, consistency and productivity in your business?
This is front of mind for me as I cycle back into podcasting after an unplanned month off and with conversations I've been having with others around cycles and acceptance.
Too often we impose linear expectations and time frames on what is a cyclical rhythm for beings like us that are part of nature. Reminder: you are not a machine.
So, ...
First off, congratulations to me! I always encourage you to celebrate yourself and I'm taking this opportunity to do the same - 5 years of (mostly) weekly podcasts, 200+episodes and countless hours connecting with you.
To celebrate and mark the occasion I wanted to share 5 lessons from 5 years of podcasting.
Let's dive into it....

If you've been asking yourself 'what can I be doing?' or some flavour of that question I want you to know you are not alone.
AND I want to offer up some thoughts and ideas for practical action that you can take.
No shoulds, simply offering up some seeds to plant.
Let's dive in.

Trauma Informed care is not new BUT it's not necessarily a well used or known term for everyone and it definitely is not something that is often talked about when it comes to doing business.
But what does it mean for doing business? Is it another thing to add to the to-do list? Do you need a certain training to do it? Will it mean addressing trauma?
In today's episode I answer all these questions and create a shared understanding of ...
If you do work that makes a difference and want a different kind of world that has to extend to how you do business.
Doing work that makes a difference, doesn’t guarantee that your business is not perpetuating dehumanising systems and possibly doing harm. AND this is not meant as a criticism or a shame/blame inducing statement…instead it’s an invitation to get curious (with a big side of self compassion).

Does using social media make you feel some sort of way?
Does it feel unaligned with your values?
Does it feel unsupportive for your mental wellbeing?
Or is it simply a time suck for you?
Hands down one of the most fraught business tools for health and helping professionals is social media.
In this podcast we'll cover:
- is it possible to do business without social media
- identifying your best communication avenues
- practical ...
We've all been noticing right? The continuing shift in the social media landscape.
The reduction in the reach and connection, the increase in restrictions and access...basically continuing to funnel us all towards a pay-to-play model for meeting biz goals on Socials.
So, is it time to quit social media? Good question....

Let's chat composting....no, I haven't completely turned this podcast into a garden show - we are talking about composting as an analogy in your business.
In this episode we cover:
- how composting is related to business
- cycles and seasons in your business
- the reasons you might need to start composting
- how to assess what in your business is ready for death or decomposition
...and so much more
Let's dive in.
Today I want to chat about connection.
Connection is a values thread for me - it weaves through all my other values, how I define them and how I act into them.
So, I'm offering up some space and reflection questions to get curious about connection as it shows up for you, your values and your business.
And also encouraging you to run an eye over your values and find your values thread too.
Let's dive in.
Talking about your values and what they are is one thing....acting into them is the actual point.
Let's chat about values beyond lip-speak and acting into the same values that we say we have.
Now, the thing about the people that hang around on this podcast is that you are mostly doing this - however there are 2 places where this disconnect consistently shows up for values grounded humans like you. So we are definitely covering those ...
The systems we are embedded in, their values and beliefs, are embedded in all the spaces we occupy...and also inside of us too.
The work of dismantling them and challenging them doesn't just happen 'out there' it's not just the work of protesting, calling reps or posting statements. It's the inner work of identifying and uprooting our own internalisation of these values - and a great place to get started is your business.
