(00:00):
And welcome to a new episode of Digital Coffee Gaming Brew. And I'm
your host Brett Deister. And this week I'm going to be talking about a little
bit about the news Dragon Age and how awful it turned out to
be and why it probably should have, well, not been made at
all. Also, we're going to talk a little bit about Metal Gear Solid and why
it can't really Konomi can't really do what
(00:22):
Kojima did anymore as the lead
actor of those series has happened. Call DB Black
Ops 7, kind of talking a little bit about that.
And then we're going to be talking about Battlefield 6 in the second beta
weekend and I'm played a little bit about it, so I'm going to give you
my thoughts about it. But let's get on with the show.
(00:57):
That's good. All right, I hope you guys are
having a fantastic weekend, but
David Hayter, the voice actor for Snake in Metal Gear Solid series,
discussed the potential for new Metal Gear Solid games to be made
without Kojima. Metal Gear Solid Delta Snake Eater
is going to be released the end of this month.
(01:20):
26ish and then the new game is described as almost
two faithful remake of the 2004 classic and
the Metal Gear Solid series producer stated that the many original staff
members have left and the remake serves as a way to train a new
development team, and mentioned that the development of MSG
Delta has provided insights into the team's capacity. Hager believes
(01:42):
it is possible to create a new new Metal Gear game, but acknowledges
it will not be the same as those created by
Kojima. Hater used the example of different
interpretations of Batman by Tim Burton and Christopher Nolan to illustrate the
new that new interpretations still be successful and that
Kojima is working on spiritual successor to Metal
(02:04):
Gear, which is expected to release in five or six years.
The producer of Metal Gear Solid Delta views the remake as
both a companion and a replacement to the original Snake Eater,
leaving the final decision to players, which I actually
agree with. I think it'll be completely different. But let's be honest, the last
Metal Gear game I felt like the story was really convoluted, didn't
(02:26):
really finish anything and kind of left you going, what? Like
I finished it and it's a great game, but I felt the story was
just there really was no
finalization. I felt like it was all over the place. But the
gameplay, it was fun, it was interesting and voice acting was great.
Even though it wasn't David Hayter, it was actually
(02:48):
Kiefer Sutherland that actually voiced him and it was the only time he actually
voiced him, which is not a bad pick either. But it was one
of those weird games where it was a good game, but I felt the
story just got lost. It just did not have
that impact. But I do agree and he makes a good point about
the Batmans or the Supermans. Each one of them are very
(03:10):
different. Each one of them were successful, mostly Batman,
because Tim Burton was very successful. The
Schumacher one was not as successful. I think Batman
Forever was the more successful of his two and Batman and Robin
were not successful at all. And then the Christopher Nolan ones were
very successful. I'd even say that if
(03:32):
Zack Snyder actually created a Batman one, he actually would have been successful in
that regard, but it never really happened. But
yes, is going to be different is I don't think it's going to be
as philosophical and as, I guess
more questioning things as the
originals or it's going to be in a different way of questioning things because I
(03:55):
feel like Kojima just really questioned war
and just kind of like industrial, military, industrial complex and all that
stuff, which is great. I think he should always. I think we should always question
war, but I just don't think it's going to have
the same look and feel. Well, the more the same
feel and undertones of the writing as it
(04:17):
did with Metal Gear Solid under the original creator.
But we'll see what actually happens. I mean, more Metal Gear Solid games
is always a welcome site, but
we'll see how good it actually turns out once they do an actual new game,
not a remake of a 2004 game.
All right, so Call of Duty Black Ops 7, the game that no one's really
(04:39):
talking about, is set to be released in November
14, which is a good sign for Battlefield because then they have
about a month of being the only one
there on that on that October release,
which gives them a head start, which could make him big
bucks on that. So it should be interesting.
(05:03):
So November 25th is currently a light month for
new video game releases. Call of Duty typically launches their game mid October and
mid November each year. Battlefield 6 is confirmed, the release date is
October 10th, and Battlefield 7 will not be available for the Switch
2 at launch and is uncertain whether Activision will port the
game to the new console. So we'll see if that
(05:25):
happens. I mean,
Switch two, I don't even have. I wasn't really in favor of the whole bricking
your your switch. If you do something they don't like, I feel like that
can go way off the Rails and
the mistakes can happen where they think you're doing something wrong and then they just
brick it and then you're. You're out of a $400
(05:48):
console. And I'm like, nope, don't want that issue. Don't want to
deal with that issue. If I purchase a console, I should be able to use
it however I want to. If it's nefarious against the law,
you sue me and I go to jail or pay a
fine. But you shouldn't be able to track what I'm doing. And that's why I
was like, I am not spending this much money to be tracked on what I'm
(06:10):
doing. That is completely and utterly ridiculous. And
I'm not happy about that. But anyways, this could be
a good year for
FPSs. We'll see who does better. Call of Duty or Black Ops
7. I'm not saying that Call of Duty is not going to do well. I
think it's still going to do well because Call of Duty is such a big
(06:31):
franchise that it's kind of hard not to do well. And there's a lot of
people that love Call of Duty even though the
skins are so cringe right now, they're very cringe worthy that
I just can't get behind it anymore. I think the
last one I really did truly enjoy was Modern Warfare
2019. And that's even when Warzone was
(06:51):
introduced and that was. And then prior to that,
the original Modern Warfare was kind of like my heyday of
what was great because you could mod that. It was before all the battle
passes, before all the DLCs. It was a great
game in general and that's how
Call of Duty really started being popular, was through that
(07:14):
game. So I probably won't.
I'll probably try it if they have a beta, but I probably won't get it.
I'll. I'm gonna stick with Battlefield 6, to be honest with you, but
it should be interesting to see how well it does
as opposed to the previous years. And if there's actually a dip in
sales because of what they've done with Black Ops 6,
(07:36):
I'm not really quite sure what's gonna happen because we don't really know enough
information about, about Call of Duty yet.
So we'll see what happens. We'll see what they do with this. But
it could be a down year for them and I'm not saying it's going to
completely tank the franchise, but it could be a down year for them just
because of what they've Done with battle with Black Ops 6.
(07:59):
All right, so Mark Durham, the former producer at BioWare,
discussed the development issues of the game the Dragon Age the Veil
guard interview with YouTuber Mr. Maddie Plays.
Durham stated that Veil Guard was four
games stitched together, indicating a lack of cohesive
direction. He suggested that the project should have been shut down
(08:21):
completely when he transitioned to work on anthem in
2019. Belgard was initially conceived as a live
service game, but faced development challenges including operating without an
executive producer. Dura described
Velgaard as a zombie project perpetually too close to its
shipping date to undergo significant retooling. He
(08:43):
noted EA games often improve when studios
focus solely on one project.
Dura referenced the Thor movies to illustrate the tonal shift in
Belgard's development, indicating the game was out of sync with current
trends by the time of its eventual release. The
game face prolonged development which affected its
(09:04):
relevance and tone and well, the writing was bad
too. Let's just, let's just be honest with you. The pull, the
brava, the the gender ideology was a
huge misstep. But yeah, the tone was weird. It just
felt like a Dragon Age like game and it didn't have any heart or soul
to was just a misfire. And EA never really
(09:26):
understood how to actually make a Dragon Age game. They didn't really understand
the audience, the market. They were just a bad company to
really to have Bioware. They just didn't know what to do with RPGs. And it's
a shame because they had a really great franchise that no one cared about. And
that was the problem with it, is that no one cared about it and everybody
just wanted another Mass Effect game. Even though there was a huge and
(09:50):
I would say underestimated audience
for these types of RPGs. Look at Baldur's Gate 3. Look
at Claire Osborne Expedition 33. I mean look
at all these games that did really well because they were old school
RPGs with a lot of different ways of playing
the game that Dragon Age technically had in
(10:12):
Origins and they just didn't care, didn't want to do anything with it and just
cared more about Mass Effect and Anthem and
all that stuff. And look at Mass Effect and Drama did not do very well.
Only The Mass Effect 1 through 3 did well. So
it'll be interesting to see what they do with it and if it'll do,
if they will actually do anything again with it, which my guess is
(10:35):
they're not going to do anything else with it, they're just going to leave it
to die because they just don't know what to do with it. They don't have
smart people in the marketing department or even in the
executives department. All they care is about FPS is really in sports
games. That's really all they care about right now. And the Sims,
which is weird, but fine. All
(10:55):
right, so Battlefield 6, the open beta, is attracting large
numbers of players and receiving positive feedback. Shroud,
a popular streamer and former professional player, returned
to play Battlefield 2042. Between sessions of Battlefield
6 beta, Shroud expressed that playing Battlefield 2042
made him appreciate Battlefield 6 more. And he noted
(11:19):
that his experience with 2042 led him to conclude either
2042 is is that bad
or 6 is that good, which I think it's 6 is just that
good. Some fans have criticized the beta for having small
maps, despite assurances from the game's lead producer that larger maps
will be available. Yeah, and I'm one of those that I'm like, it's just,
(11:41):
there's just in the beta, there's no big maps. So I don't know how
good the big maps are going to do because we haven't even had it. Even
the new, the new map, New York, feels smaller than
the other ones and feels very
metro. Like in a way, I think there's a lot more routes
you can go around, but it feels like the
(12:03):
meat grinder type of maps playing from a
conquest type of perspective.
Now the second week of Battlefield 6 includes new map and a Rush mode.
Rush mode typically features teams of attackers with limited lives and defenders who
respawn infinitely, aiming to arm or destroy
(12:24):
caches on the map. Rush Mode is. Battlefield 6 is limited to
12 versus 12 players, which is weird, which is a change from
previous installments that allowed larger teams. EA describes rush in
Battlefield 6 as medium scale battles. The new map,
Empire State is criticized for feeling small, which it is.
Players feedback suggests that maps in Battlefield 6 are being
(12:46):
compared unfav to those of Call of Duty. Battlefield 6 beta
has reportedly broken record player numbers. The game
is is a live service, meaning it may evolve based
on player feedback, which is good. I do think they need to change
around some of the points and stuff I
(13:07):
like. I. I don't mind all the maps. I think Siege of
Cairo and the Liberation Peak one is
probably the two best of the beta maps that we've played. And then I
would say the Italy one, I don't remember the name of
it, is like third and then the Empire State in my
list is fourth. I think it's like the worst one to be honest with you.
(13:29):
Now, if you love Metro, I think it's a. Not a
clone, like a clone one. But I think it's similar to like Locker
and Metro with more ways of getting around. But
I just want the bigger maps, man. I just. I just want to not have
like AA spam when I try to get into a helicopter and want
to have fun with the helicopter because they still allow for engineers to have
(13:52):
both RPG and an. And a Stinger
missile. And that's annoying.
Like, I understand it's the beta, but you better change that when the
game releases because that's going to get so annoying when
an engineer can have both, because then no one's going to fly because
it's just annoying. Or you're going to be standing on your side of the map
(14:14):
most of the time because you can't go in, because then you'll get hit
by AAs, like from every direction.
That's the issue. Plus with Liberation Peak, which is the only one with planes
and helicopters, there's also
a mobile AA vehicle. It doesn't do well against
troops or anything. So we have that. We
(14:37):
also have two AA spots on the map as well. You
can Only you can repair. I
still don't know where it is, where you can actually repair it, because it kind
of works, kind of doesn't. So I'm always confused about the repairing of it
on, like, where does it trigger? But there are
plenty of AA like devices
(15:00):
around it. I mean, you've got one at E and you got one
between B and C. And then
D, you can get the AA mobile AA
vehicle. And so you have like plenty of opportunities.
Plus each team has one jet and one helicopter. You have plenty of
opportunities to knock it down. But then all of a sudden now you have that.
(15:23):
Plus every engineer can just have an
RPG and an AA Stinger missile launcher. And then
so you have like the stationary ones, which is like two to three.
You have the mobile AA, so it's four options or three or four
options. Plus you have two AAs at the base.
So it's like six or seven options. But then if
(15:46):
every engineer runs RPG and Stinger, then you have,
let's say you have 20 extra AA people
you have to like maneuver around. It's impossible to fly
for more than a few minutes. I mean, you can like go over the mountains
and stuff, but I mean, really, you have to like go in, pop your
flares, go in, go all the way back to the base, wait for your flares
(16:08):
to pop up, go kind of traverse over on it,
there's like roundabout ways which I think Liberation Peak
just needs the mini choppers instead of the
Apaches. So the mini birds would probably be better, faster, more
agile and I think that would actually be a lot better of it. Keep
the jets in there, that's fine. It doesn't really bother me.
(16:29):
Keep the mobile AA on that point where you actually
have to capture it to actually get it. I think that's a fair thing.
The A guns are fine. I mean you can, you can destroy them pretty
easily either through a tank or
an engineer. But the
(16:50):
best map for me, Liberation Peak
has some issues. Just because they haven't locked
AA to be either or on. You can pick the RPG
or the AA Stinger missile. So that's the issue
right now. All in all, I still like it. I still think there needs
to be a rebalancing of the shotgun. I still think that.
(17:13):
I think 15 meters should be like the sweet spot of like the
potential for one kill. But after the 15 meters it should drastically
drop. I think there needs to be a little bit more counterplay because everybody
with CG Cairo or is that Italy map or
New York? They all run shotguns. And it's very annoying because it's
(17:33):
like you want to try other weapons, but the shotgun's the best one because
you're in such close quarters. So the shotgun feels annoying. And. And since
they only give us small maps, what's the point of running
anything but shotguns? I mean, you can run other
weapons on Liberation Peak because it's a little bit longer sight
lines. But then when you get to the bases, I mean, everybody's running shotguns.
(17:55):
So the shotguns are an issue for sure.
I'm not saying they should completely remove shotguns, but they need to
readdress it to be more rock paper, scissors. I don't
know what that's going to entail, but I'm fine with
extremely close range. Yes, it should be one shot per
potential. The farther you get out, it should
(18:18):
decrease drastically. I say like 10, 15
ish meters by more towards the 10 meters is kind of like
the sweet spot of it. And then after that they should really just bring the
sweet spot back. But not for sniper rivals for
shotguns. There should be a sweet spot in the shotgun
thing for that type of thing because it's, it's a very
(18:40):
annoying thing to play against because you're trying to like counter play
and trying to get to them. But like one shot dead, one shot dead, one
shot dead, one shot dead. And it's super annoying a lot of times
because it's like I. The only way to actually like counter is
to run shotgun. I don't really want to do that. I want to
play the game. I don't have to want play the game to run a specific
(19:01):
weapon because everybody's running that specific weapon because it's easy to
shoot and kill. Very annoying. But I mean, all
in all, the look, the feel is way better than 2042
by far. Now, there is a rumor that there could be a
surprise update for 2042 after the beta,
which basically would be one new map and a few gadgets and
(19:24):
weapons. But it would be Iima, which would be interesting
if that's true. And it would be two new
planes. I think the A10 Warthog would be on the US side and one
of the other, I think super Frog or whatever that would be on the
opposing side. Now, on the Battlefield 6 beta, they did change
around the uniform, the uniforms of the shoulder
(19:47):
of the soldiers on each side. So you kind of know the
difference. But still it's really hard to tell the difference. So they do need to
really work on that because sometimes I just shot my own person. I mean, I
didn't kill him because the friendly fire is on, but it's like I didn't know
and it's really hard to tell. So there is
issues with it. I still don't like New York that much. I
(20:10):
think it's a very annoying map. I think it's not very fun in
all overall, but I really
don't like Metro at all too. I don't like the meat grinder type maps
I get. A lot of people love it and if you love it, that's fine.
It's just not my map. I like the big maps. I like the
finding ways of destroying tanks either through tanks or by
(20:32):
yourself. It's kind of fun to go around tanks on Liberation Peak,
shoot the engineers, and then kill the tank. I almost actually destroyed
a tank with my repair tool. It was down to like five
health and it killed me, unfortunately. But then it died pretty quickly
after that. So I like figuring that out. Which, by the way, if
you're playing Battlefield 6 and you keep on seeing a tank getting
(20:54):
healed up, figure out a way to flank,
shoot the engineers, and then destroy the tank. That's the best way of
doing it. But it's a helpful tip for
everybody. But yeah, that's kind of like my tier list. I
don't play Rush. I played Rush when it first came out with Battlefield Bad Company
2 don't really care for it that much. It's fun, but I just don't care.
(21:17):
I don't care about Breakthrough. Only thing I really like to play is Conquest and
that's really about it. Don't care about Team Deathmatch. Don't care about Deathmatch. Don't care
about domination. Don't care about any other mode except that
one. Do I mind open one? No, I don't mind it that much. Do I
think it should be closed? Yeah, I really do think it should be closed. And
carbines, DRMs and shotguns should be
(21:38):
available for everybody but the LMGs for support,
the snipers for the snipers or recon
and assault rifles for the assault should be
that. And the SMGs for the engineer should be should be that.
That's what it should be. Well, I'd be really upset if it
is it now. I'll still play it. It's still a fun game, still interesting.
(22:01):
It's still great. Love the destruction because it was way more than
what we got in Battlefield 2042. 2042 was like the
worst of the worst for Battlefield. Worse than
Heroes, worse than battlefield 1943, which actually
was a really good one. If you actually played it on console is worse than
any other. It was even worse than Modern Combat 2 which like was like the
(22:24):
worst console released one. This one was by far the worst one.
So what do you think? Do you think Battlefield 6 is great? Do you
want to actually pre order it? Completely up to you. I will not shame you
for wanting to actually play a game you really like. Or do you think
it needs some work? Or do you think it's mid? Do you think Call of
Duty is better? Let me know in the comments below. But thank you for listening
