group of people who put thistogether, so it's um, not
actually down, it's in downtownstatesville, but it's not done
by downtown statesvilledevelopment, but just a local
group of passionate people and, yeah, it's in there I dig it now

(04:11):
worth going back.

Speaker 3 (05:03):
Also in March the Haunted Statesville Ghost Tours
kick back off.
So historically you know thesetake place in October, but the
past year or two they've beenrunning them from March through
October and just a really coolexperience.
In downtown Statesville, youknow, you get great tour guides
that tell you all this folkloreabout these ghost tours that

(05:24):
take place in StatesvilleFeatured on Visit North Carolina
now too.
Big deal.

Speaker 1 (05:29):
Yeah, I love that they've expanded it and are
kicking it off in March everyyear and it's not just a fall
thing.

Speaker 3 (05:35):
And good for the whole family.
I mean the kids will enjoy thistoo.

They do a great job.
So also in downtown Statesville, the Downtown Statesville
Development Corporation isputting on the Spring Art Crawl,
and that will be on March 22nd,from 2 to 6.
So be sure to go todowntownstatesvillecom and check
out more information about that.

Speaker 3 (05:54):
That's right, April 26th the annual Wine Walk.
It's a premier event indowntown Statesville.
Saturday, April 26th, 3 to 7,.
You purchase a ticket.
A lot of the downtownrestaurants and shops and
everything open up and do winetastings in all the different
establishments that participate.

Speaker 1 (06:14):
It's a great way both Art Crawl and Wine Walk a great
way to support local merchantswhile enjoying a good time.

Speaker 3 (06:23):
And tickets are required for that event and it
is very capable of selling out.
Yeah, absolutely so, if youthink you're planning on going
go ahead and jump on it.

Speaker 1 (06:29):
Absolutely.
We already have people bookinghotels in town for one walk.

Speaker 3 (06:35):
That's good, because they can't stay with me.

Speaker 1 (06:38):
Come on, richard, then a crowd favorite.
We always have people askquestions online through the
Statesville Convention andVisitors Bureau, but asking
about Piedmont Healthcare FridayAfter 5.
That's put on by DowntownStatesville Development and our
local Chamber of Commerce.
They come together to puttogether a great lineup of bands
.
I don't think we've seen thatyet, but that will run again May

(06:59):
through September.
So put that on your radar toparticipate in the Piedmont
Healthcare Friday After 5 againthis year.
That's right.

Speaker 3 (07:06):
Always a good time.
Yeah, on Saturday, may the 17th, the Ardell Arts Council will
host their third annual streetconcert event.

Speaker 1 (07:15):
Great event.

Speaker 3 (07:15):
Yeah, growing a little bit every year, and it
has featured some great, I wouldsay, sort of world music, and
it will be no different thisyear featuring JA Lee, cicero
and Carabao of world music.
And it will be no differentthis year featuring JA Lee,
sisaho and Caraba.
Ja Lee is a.
He's from Senegal and playswith a great sort of Afro beat
band, so it's a.
It's a free event.
It's right there on CourtStreet, right in front of the
Art of Arts Council.
You know we'll They'll beproviding more detailed

(07:38):
information on start times andthings as you get closer to the
time.
But, may 17th, don't leave town.

Speaker 1 (07:45):
And the Idle Arts Council has a new executive
director.
Right, that's right, yeah.
So no stranger to our show,Sydney Koppelmeyer, who's been
on to talk about Full Bloom FilmFestival and several other
things, has taken an opportunity, came available and she took on
that role, so we look forwardto having her on the show.

Speaker 3 (08:01):
Yeah, absolutely.

Speaker 1 (08:01):
In the coming months to talk about all things.

Speaker 3 (08:03):
Idle Arts Council yeah and then just yeah, while
we're talking about the annualcalendar, you know we talk about
featuring kind of one-offlarge-scale events.
But you know, take theopportunity, when we talk about
these organizations like theIdle Arts Council, look them up
and see what their regularprogramming is, because there's
something happening at the ArtsCouncil pretty much every week,
whether it's a concert series ora gallery opening or anything.

(08:24):
As is the case with a lot ofthese organizations, they're
doing more programmingthroughout the year than just
these large-scale events.

Speaker 1 (08:29):
Doing great, great things and it's just going to
get bigger and better.
Right, that's right.
And then something you and yourteam put on Richard Art in the
Park.

Speaker 3 (08:36):
I think in partnership with— In partnership
with the Art of Arts Council.

Speaker 1 (08:38):
Art of Arts Council speaking of which, so on
Lakewood Drive, at Martin LutherKing Park, a celebration of
artistic expression.
So a big outdoor art festivalsupporting local.
Just come out with your day inthe park with your family and
friends.

Speaker 3 (08:56):
Bunch of artists, bunch of live music.
Yeah, just a good day at thepark.

Speaker 1 (08:59):
That's June 7th, that's right.
That's Saturday.
That is June 7th, that's right.
That's Saturday.
That is June 7th, from 11 to 3,art in the Park.

Speaker 3 (09:04):
You won't want to miss that, that's right June the
21st is the StatesvilleJuneteenth Statesville
Celebration.
This year is titled the SoulSummit.
I love it and it's a great.
It's a really, really cool, hugely diversely attended event
right in downtown Statesvillealong West Broad Street,

(09:25):
celebrating history, art andculture and community
transformation.
I think I saw on social mediathe other day our friend Tevin
Carr was the new chair this year.
Okay, so lots of great changes.
It's a big-time event, so putthat on your calendar as well.

Speaker 1 (09:38):
Yeah, june 21st.
Yeah, speaking of Tevin Carrand just music in general Make
Music Day.
I know he was participatinglast year but now they have a
business in downtown Statesville.
But Make Music Day.
This is going to be the thirdSecond.

Speaker 3 (09:52):
Third, third, this might be the second oh okay.

Speaker 1 (09:56):
I think I can't remember, yeah Well, the second
annual Make Music Day.
That's on June 21st, and that'sa national event, it's a global
event, global event, yeah, Iactually think it was started in
France or something.
Oh, okay.

Speaker 3 (10:08):
And it's always the same day.
So when Statesvilleparticipates, we are
participating on this globalscale with all these other
countries and cities and stuffthroughout.

Speaker 1 (10:16):
Okay, yeah, so pretty cool, yeah, cool.
So the idea is for downtownStatesville just to transform
into this musical expression, amusical expression from
classical rap, percussion topiano, so a little bit of
everything.
They had a oh, what was thatinstrument called that the guy
was playing out on the streetlast year.
It looks like a big orb but hedrew all kinds of people to him.

(10:38):
You know what?

Speaker 3 (10:39):
I'm talking about Like a steel drum or something.

Speaker 1 (10:40):
It might have been just a steel drum.
It seemed much more fancy to methan that.

Speaker 3 (10:44):
It can look very fancy.

Speaker 1 (10:45):
Yeah, he was amazing.
I love seeing the musicians outon the street like that.

Speaker 3 (10:50):
Yeah, very cool so that is June 21st.
That's right, july the 3rd, thecity will host the annual
fireworks celebration.
The city hosts this along inpartnership with Country Boy
Landscaping and Tim JohnsonLandscaping.
The fireworks are launchedalong the Signal Hill area and
you know, and so the parking isall in that area, at the mall

(11:10):
and all those shopping centersaround there, the soccer complex
and stuff.
But launch time at 930 pm I canwalk from my house and see it.
Oh yeah.

Speaker 1 (11:17):
Good yeah, I don't have to fight for parking.

Speaker 3 (11:19):
And just go ahead and tell everybody your address,
and then they'll meet over there.
No, thanks.

Speaker 1 (11:25):
Our friends from Wild Goose Festival are going to be
returning back to theStatesville area at Van Hoy
Campground.
They come from out of town andbring 3,000 people.
Our hotels are always full Forthe Wild Goose Festival.
It's a half-week long, august28th through 31st.
I want to say this is theirfourth year.
This is their fourth year inStatesville, north Carolina, so

(11:47):
we are excited about that andwelcome them back with open arms
.
But it's a faith, justice, music and art festival has a
huge draw.
Lots of people camp out there, but tickets are required and are
already on sale.
So don't miss the Wild GooseFestival if you haven't had a
chance to experience that yet inthe past several years.

Speaker 3 (12:07):
That's right.
Yeah, in August the CivicCenter once again will host the
Iredell Statesville Coin ClubVendor Show.

Speaker 1 (12:14):
Yeah, so they do that twice a year, kind of spring
and fall.

Speaker 3 (12:18):
So ancient coins, currency, jewelry, all kinds of
cool stuff.

Speaker 1 (12:21):
Yeah, spring and fall , so ancient coins, currency,
jewelry, all kinds of cool stuff, yeah, and the county in
general.
In the fall the Iredell CountyAgricultural Fair will be back
at the Iredell CountyFairgrounds.
So right there in Troutman it'sjust an annual fair, great
family time, and that's August29th through September 6th are
the dates they've released forthat, so get that on your
calendar.

Speaker 3 (12:40):
County Fair.

Speaker 1 (12:41):
And Richard's favorite.

Speaker 3 (12:43):
That's right.
This will be the, so the IdleArts Council and the Full Bloom
Film Festival Committee willhost the 10th annual.

Speaker 1 (12:49):
Full Bloom Film Festival.
I can't believe it's been 10years.

Speaker 3 (12:52):
I know, tell me about it.
That's September 11th throughthe 13th.
This is an international filmfestival that takes place right
here in downtown Statesville.

Speaker 1 (13:00):
That takes place right here in downtown
Statesville Busting out thescenes last year.

Speaker 3 (13:03):
Yeah, and we hear all the time well, statesville
doesn't have a movie theater.
Well, for the film festival wehave at least four that we
convert these different venuesin downtown Statesville into
movie theaters and showcase Allkinds of great film.
And it's just a reallyoutstanding, amazing weekend.
Tickets are going to be on salesoon, if they're not already.

(13:24):
There's parties all weekend.
You can get a VIP pass whichgets you into every film and
every party.
There's nothing like it here inStatesville.

Speaker 1 (13:33):
It's becoming one of my favorites.

Speaker 3 (13:35):
It's very cool and we get a lot of filmmakers and
people that come and attend fromreally all over the planet.

Speaker 1 (13:40):
Yeah, so at the beginning you kind of mentioned
that we're featuring the annualkind of events, the bigger
events here.
But the Full Bloom FilmFestival talking about not
having a movie theater puts onmovies throughout the year right
Every month, every month at theArt of Arts Council at the old
jail.

Speaker 3 (13:56):
Okay, and so we'll screen.
I think in January we screenedMoulin Rouge.
In February we're screening thePrincess Bride.
That's our Valentine's Dayromance, also your video.
No, we pay for the rights.

Speaker 1 (14:09):
These are usually your DVDs, aren't they?

Speaker 3 (14:12):
No, no, no, Everything's above board.
It's professional.
It's professional, but it iscool and, yeah, those are always
opportunities to come out and, like I said, just entertainment.
Yeah, check out the film series.
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (14:21):
And Statesville if you don't know this, if you
haven't tuned in.
Historically Statesville isknown as a bicycling destination
and we play host to severalcycling events and one of those
being the Love Valley Row Bay.
So a local bike shop owner, wesDavidson from First Light Bikes
, and a team of people they puttogether, featuring routes up to

(14:44):
100 miles, including thedemanding Fox Mountain Hill
climb, but the Love Valley Robein Love Valley, and they
announced their dates just lastweek.
So September 26th through the28th we welcome those riders
back.
They bring several hundredpeople from out of town and
really from all over the placeFrom all over, looking forward

(15:04):
to experiencing North Carolina'stoughest climbs, right in Love
Valley, all right.

Speaker 3 (15:08):
On September the 20th will be the Fall Art Crawl, the
counterpart to the Spring ArtCrawl, virtually a very similar
event.
Lots of great artists showcasedin lots of great downtown
establishments.

Speaker 1 (15:20):
Yeah, Actually they've switched it up a little
bit.
I don't know if you noticedwhat they did this past year.
Oh, I didn't.
I don't know if they'll do itagain this year, but they made
one more of a fine arts event.
So I think it was the fall onewas more fine arts and spring
was more crafts.
But sorry if I said that wrong,Liz, I know we'll have you on
the show to let everyone knowexactly what it is, but they've

(15:41):
kind of like upped the game andmade it fine arts.
So, yeah, that's September 20th.
Looking forward to that.
So the Pride Parade andFestival will be back in
September.
I don't know that they've setthe date yet, but they will be
back.
So a celebration of love anddiversity and community, Also
through downtown Statesville, with a parade and event that

(16:05):
ends.
What did you say on Broad?
Street yeah on Broad Street.
So that will be back inSeptember.

Speaker 3 (16:12):
Excellent.
On October 4th, Purple HeartHomes will host the Take that
Hill event at SouthernDistilling Company out there on
Jennings Road.
This is their sixth annual eventand you know, sort of like
you're talking about, the LoveValley Road Bay draws a bunch
of—the cycling community islarge and so this brings a lot
of people out for the event, especially, you know, since it's

(16:34):
to benefit housing for disabledand aging veterans.
So good time for a good causeand there's just a general
celebration as well.
You can attend this and notjust be a writer.

Speaker 1 (16:45):
Yeah, just community and enjoy Southern Distilling.

Speaker 3 (16:47):
Absolutely.

Speaker 1 (16:48):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (16:49):
Take that hill.

Speaker 1 (16:49):
The donkeys.
Yeah, so October 4th.
And can you believe it thatthis year is the 50th annual
Carolina Balloon Fest, secondlargest balloon festival in the
nation?

Speaker 3 (17:02):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (17:02):
Yeah, right here in Statesville, North Carolina.
So always the third weekend inOctober, October 17th through
the 19th.
But I understand they're goingto make sure this is a
not-to-miss event, not-to-missyear.

Speaker 3 (17:13):
Hold out all the stops 50th annual.

Speaker 1 (17:15):
Don't miss it, yeah, outstanding 30th annual.

Speaker 3 (17:17):
Don't miss it.
Yeah, outstanding.
On October 18th and 19th we'llhave the North Carolina Gun
Collectors Association back atthe Civic Center for another gun
show.

Speaker 1 (17:26):
Another organization that does spring and fall.

Speaker 3 (17:28):
That's right.

Speaker 1 (17:29):
Brings thousands of people.

Speaker 3 (17:31):
It's not broke, that's right.

Speaker 1 (17:32):
Yeah, it's in high demand.
And then our friends atDowntown Statesville Development
and our local Chamber ofCommerce are partnering up again
for the Statesville PumpkinFest.
This is going to be the 21stannual Statesville Pumpkin Fest
Long, long time running event.
Classic car cruisings, kidszones, the foods and lemonade.

(17:56):
I always go for the big, thefresh squeezed lemonade, final
case, all the things.
Every day should be StatesvillePumpkin Fest Day in downtown
Statesville, but it's November1st from 10 to 5 and will be
happening again this year.

Speaker 3 (18:07):
Yeah, Also on November 1st.
I guess this is tentative.
Or is the date tentative or thetime tentative?
They're both tentative.

Speaker 1 (18:14):
Let's go ahead and talk about November 1st and
December 13th, because what'shappening at Fort Dobbs and this
is their annual events formilitary timeline in the winter
at the Western Company.
The reason this is tentativethey have it on the calendar but
they're having to close theirparking lot to tours because
they are building a full-blownvisitor center.

(18:35):
So I think their hope is thatthat will be all the way and
they'll be able to have theirannual events.

Speaker 3 (18:41):
Okay, so we wanted to mention them, but those are
tentatives, so we have highhopes for you guys, fort Dobbs,
that you'll be able to pullthose off this year.
If they happen, be there, yeah, yeah.
And then in general in December, downtown Statesville kind of
does a little bit of everythingand they'll roll out, you know,

(19:01):
a pretty robust calendar ofdifferent activities and
amenities that are open duringthat time.
So stay tuned for all that.
But there'll be carriage rides, there'll be shopping strolls,
there'll be trolleys, there'llbe Santa Central at City Hall
and all kinds of stuff spreadout over the course of the month
.

Speaker 1 (19:15):
The Christmas tree lighting, all the things.

Speaker 3 (19:18):
yeah, that's right and including one of the month
the Christmas tree lighting, allthe things.
That's right and including.
One of the events that also ishosted at the Civic Center is
the annual Symphony Holiday Popsevent, and that's going to be
on December 11th.

Speaker 1 (19:27):
How many years has that been happening?

Speaker 3 (19:28):
I don't know A lot.

Speaker 1 (19:30):
Close to 20, probably .

Speaker 3 (19:31):
You might have to ask Kosti.

Speaker 1 (19:32):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (19:38):
Kosti Kute, our remember the first time that I
went.
I'm not a big symphony guy, believe it or not, but I really
enjoyed it.
I mean, it's all the Christmastunes that you know and stuff.

Speaker 1 (19:48):
It's a lot of fun.

Speaker 3 (19:49):
Yeah, whole family enjoys it.

Speaker 1 (19:51):
There is not a shortage of things happening in
Statesville, North Carolina in2025.
And these are just the annualevents.

Speaker 3 (19:58):
That we know about right now.

Speaker 1 (19:59):
That we know about right now More things will pop
up, yeah, and since we're backafter the holidays, we will kick
back off with our Februaryevents rundown and kind of dig
in and feature everything that'shappening for the events each
month.

Speaker 3 (20:12):
My birthday's in February, so be sure to talk
about it, mine too.
Should we have a birthday cakeas we record?
Maybe we should.
Or Should we have a birthdaycake as we record?

Speaker 1 (20:18):
Maybe we should, or a hat.
Is that why we get along?
Are you an Aquarius?
