them a call there at the LakeNorman State Park.
Speaker 3 (02:59):
Yeah, and that whole
trail is beautiful compared to
all the developed areas of thelake.
You at least have this one sortof pristine gem there on Lake
Norman, which is awesome.
Speaker 1 (03:09):
That sounds like a
great time, but I don't want to
miss Art in the Park.

rounded up no pun intended, they
are a great lineup.
Speaker 3 (04:06):
They have Over 10
bands, those guys are a
phenomenal resource here in thiscommunity and they've done a
great job for us.

band.
They're awesome.
Danny Wicker, mel Jones, yeah,outstanding.
Speaker 3 (04:53):
And that's with the
team from Piedmont Folkways,
also a great group.
Yeah, that's been a greatpartnership that the Arts
Council's formed with PiedmontFolkways.
They do a show every Wednesdaynight and so about two months
ago they came to the ArtsCouncil and wanted to start
doing their Wednesday nightshows in the old jail.
So we've been happy to havethem as a partner and it's
working out really well.
Speaker 1 (05:08):
More people working
together.
Speaker 3 (05:09):
I love it, that's
right, yeah, so also at the Arts
Council will be the thirdinstallment of the Art and Soul
series, which is a that issponsored by Grace Baptist
Church, and so on this they'llhave Fry Gillyard, who is a
former Southern editor at theCharlotte Observer and writer in
residence at the University ofSouth Alabama, and he'll share
(05:30):
some readings from his works, and then Steve Shoemaker, who is
the pastor at Grace Baptist, has some Q&A, asked some
questions.
The first two have been amazingand just really
thought-provoking and greatconversations, and so put that
on your calendar as well.
Speaker 1 (05:46):
Something for
everyone at the arts council.
Um, who's ready for piedmonthealth care friday after five in
june?
Um, downtown states willdevelopment in the chamber.
The organizers there had tomake a last minute cancellation.
Um, they didn't want you tomiss out, so they uh have a
rescheduled date from May 3rd onJune 14th and then also the
(06:09):
June 7th, two days in June.
So they're going to have onJune 7th.
They are going to have Kids inAmerica, that's right.
So it's a totally 80s tributeband taking the stage on June
7th and then on June 14th wouldbe that original from May 3rd,
the Ultimate 90s Gump Fiction.
Speaker 3 (06:30):
I love this
description.
Kids in America isn't just aband.
It's a musical odyssey thatstarted with our shared passion
for the unforgettable decade ofthe 80s.
I'm going to be there, I'm in,yeah.
Speaker 1 (06:40):
We're there, we're
there.
So thanks to those guys fororganizing a great event for the
community and visitors alike.
Piedmont Healthcare, fridayAfter 5.
And then, one thing I do loveabout summer is the summer
baseball leagues, and I'm soproud that Statesville has the
Statesville Owls here.
So they kicked off.
(07:01):
They had their opener last week, last week, they kicked off in
May, this past month in May, butthey're playing their home
games at West Iredell HighSchool June 7th, 10th, 9th, 20th
, every week.
Every week they're having ahome game in June and you can go
(07:24):
on to Discover Statesville andfilter the calendar and look for
our category called Root forthe Home Team and follow along
and find out how you can get outand support local sports and
local baseball.
Speaker 3 (07:36):
That's awesome
Who-de-who.
Speaker 1 (07:37):
Yeah, who-de-who.
Speaker 3 (07:40):
Let's see.
At the Iretal Arts Council, theFull Bloom Film Festival is an
international film festival thattakes place here every
September.
So the Full Bloom Film Festivalis an international film
festival that takes place hereevery September.
But for the past couple ofyears we've hosted a monthly
film series to try to keepmomentum in between the annual
International Film Festival.
So the June installment forthat will be the film Amazing
(08:00):
Grace, which is basically adocumentary about Aretha
Franklin, and so it's going tobe outstanding.
That's on June the 11th at 7o'clock.
All right, oh, I'm next too.
There's a lot of stuff herethere is.
So Piedmont Folkways anotherperformance, this time with
Michael Federer and Tom Kuhn.
(08:22):
Same thing.
That'll be at the Idle ArtsCouncil in the old jail
listening room.
That's on June the 12th at 730.
Speaker 1 (08:29):
Gosh, richard,
there's nothing to do in
Statesville.
Speaker 3 (08:32):
North Carolina.
I know We'll just sit aroundall the time, can't?
Speaker 1 (08:34):
believe it.
And then we're excited to sharenext week's guest Tune.
In next week we are going tohave Pete Barger from Southern
Distilling, the co-founder ofSouthern Distilling, with us and
he is going to be talking aboutthe Southern Distilling Summer
Cruisin'.
It's my understanding they'regoing to have 70 plus.
(08:54):
I'm not going to say this right, but older cars.
Speaker 3 (09:00):
He said really any
car.
Yeah, really any car.
I may, I may put the Subaru ondisplay.
Speaker 1 (09:08):
I was thinking that's
something you could do, but
it's going to be a great nightof entertainment.
They're going to have thecruising the car cruising
classic car cruising, but foodtrucks.
Great night of entertainment,um, they're going to have the
cruising the car cruisingclassic car cruising, but food
trucks, live music.
And they're going to be havinga limited edition great race
single barrel barrel release.
But this cruising is a party umto send pete off on the great
(09:29):
race.
It's the second annual um, Ithink, eight-day across-country
race.
So you won't want to misstuning in next week to hear
about all that from Pete.
But get the summer cruise in onyour calendar, which is June
13th.
Speaker 3 (09:46):
And that single
barrel release is just that day
right.
Speaker 1 (09:49):
That's right, that's
right.
Speaker 3 (09:51):
So if you're a
collector, yeah, and there's
still time.
Speaker 1 (09:54):
You said all vehicles
are welcome to register.
So go out tosoutherndistillingcom and if
you're interested in registeringyour car, but if not, just come
out and have a good time withus, we'll be there.
Speaker 3 (10:05):
Outstanding.
Yeah, June the 19th will be theannual Juneteenth celebration
here in downtown Statesville.
They got a couple things goingon, Well, actually.
So June 19th is Juneteenth.
On June 19th they'll be hostingthat's the, I think where
they're having their educationalpiece at the Unity Center.
They're also hosting some bustours of the Green Street,
(10:26):
Garfield Street area.
There is limited seating andyou can register online for
those.
And then June 22nd, in downtownStatesville, will be the annual
Juneteenth celebration.
That's right in front ofMitchell Community College, at
the end of West Broad Street, 11am to 6 pm, and there will be
tons of vendors, tons of food, art, education, entertainment,
(10:49):
kids activities.
It will be a full day ofcelebrating Juneteenth and
really the entertainment will beoutstanding and they'll you
know they're spoken wordthroughout the day.
They'll have dance troupesthroughout the day.
Our good friends Tevin andCapria with Insomniacs are
helping coordinate a portion ofthe entertainment and I imagine
we'll be performing as well.
It's just a really great, superdiverse celebration in downtown
(11:12):
Statesville, so I encourageeveryone to come and participate
.
Speaker 1 (11:15):
Yeah, and not to give
away everything they're doing,
but I'm excited to share that intwo weeks, after we speak to
Pete, my favorite human being, kevin, is going to be back in
studio here with us with MrElamin.
Speaker 3 (11:31):
Elamin, elamin, yeah.
Speaker 1 (11:32):
They're going to be
here talking all things
Juneteenth this will be a goodtime.
Yeah, you won't want to missthat episode, so we're looking
forward to having them with us,but mark your calendar.
That Juneteenth Statesvillecommittee is doing a really good
job.
Speaker 3 (11:48):
They do an
outstanding job.
Speaker 1 (11:48):
They plan all year,
they do an outstanding job and
I'm so excited they moved theirevent down in front of Mitchell.
Speaker 3 (11:54):
Woods, and it's
growing every year.
Speaker 1 (11:55):
Yeah, yeah.
So then, something new toStatesville this year Downtown
Statesville Development inpartnership with the Arts
Council right, because it'ssomething that the State Arts
Council was leaning into butMake Music Day in Downtown
Statesville.
So Downtown Statesville, theway I understand it, is going to
come to life, with musicians inthe stores on the sidewalks,
(12:18):
there's going to be alldifferent things to do that
surround music.
So they said that they'rejoining over 1,000 cities and
120 countries that are going tobe doing this to be part of the
biggest music celebration ever.
Yeah, so excited that we'releaning into that.
Make Music Day in downtown.
Speaker 3 (12:38):
Statesville and that
is on June 21st and it's super
cool.
I think it might have beenstarted in France, but yeah,
it's something that's existedfor a long time, so super cool
that downtown Statesvilledecided to bring it here.
Yeah, musicians lining thestreets, in the retailers and I
think a lot of it too, and Idon't know all the details yet,
but I think a lot of it is alsoencouraging other people to come
(12:59):
out and be able to make music,so you might have an area that
you know.
Maybe there's an area that'sgot a bunch of kazoos out and
you know people can go and playkazoos, or just see you playing
the bongos.
I have a big gym bae.
It's relegated to a top shelfin the closet.
(13:19):
There you go, yeah.
And then I also want to mentionthe Haunted Statesville Ghost
Tours.
That's no longer just anOctober event.
They happen all throughout theyear, so lots of opportunity
there.
Tickets are $15.
They do two tours each eveningon the fourth Saturday from
March to September, but it'sreally cool, yeah, if you
(13:40):
haven't done it, they do a greatjob hosting the tours and
they're really engaging and it'sa lot of fun.
Speaker 1 (13:44):
And we've said this
before.
But even if you have done it,it's done now by the historic
Sharp players Keith Ryan and histeam, and it wasn't always done
by them before.
Speaker 3 (13:56):
So, even if you've
seen it before, it's time to see
it again.
Yeah, learn more about theghosts as time goes on.
We've seen more ghosts.
Yes, more stories to tell.
Speaker 1 (14:02):
Yeah, yeah.
Well, that wraps up our list, but, like we say every time, I
think there's over 1,300 eventson the list.
In June, recreation Parks hasan amazing lineup.
You guys are launching yourdive-in and drive-in movie
series.
Speaker 3 (14:22):
Dive-in movies.
