Becoming Great
The Art of Greatness
Jon Fredricks
Today's Scripture: Luke 22:24-30 NIV
__________
Luke 22:24-30 NIV
24 A dispute also arose among them as to which of them was considered to be greatest. 25 Jesus said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them; and those who exercise authority over them call themselves Benefactors. 26 But you are not to be like that. Instead, the greatest among you should be like the youngest, and the one who rules like the one who serves. 27 For who is greater, the one who is at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who is at the table? But I am among you as one who serves. 28 You are those who have stood by me in my trials. 29 And I confer on you a kingdom, just as my Father conferred one on me, 30 so that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom and sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
John 15:13 NIV
Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.
Philippians 2:5–7 NIV
5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; 7 rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.
Matthew 25:21 NIV
“His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’
Proverbs 25:21 NIV
If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat; if he is thirsty, give him water to drink.
1 Peter 4:8 NIV
Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.
1) LEARN TO HUMBLY RECEIVE
John 13:2-8 NIV
The evening meal was in progress, and the devil had already prompted Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, to betray Jesus. Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God; so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist. After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him. He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, “Lord, are you going to wash my feet?” Jesus replied, “You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.” “No,” said Peter, “you shall never wash my feet.” Jesus answered, “Unless I wash you, you have no part with me.”
2) TAKE TIME TO SEE WHAT GOD MIGHT SEE
Matthew 5:41 NIV
If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles.
1 John 4:20 NIV
Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen.
Galatians 6:2 NIV
Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.
3) DEDICATE DAILY WHAT GOD HAS GIVEN ME
1 Peter 4:10 NIV
10 Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.
Acts 9:36 NIV
36 In Joppa there was a disciple named Tabitha (in Greek her name is Dorcas); she was always doing
