SPEAKER_00 (00:00):
The basics of disc golf simplified.

(00:03):
Disc golf courses typically havenine or eighteen holes.
Some can get quite large, so tryand play smaller courses when
you are starting out to minimizethe distance and keep it fun.
Your objective is to completeeach hole in a series of throws,
but in the fewest throwspossible.
There's an assigned startingpoint for each hole, marked by a

(00:27):
tea pad, which can be an actualconcrete pad, outdoor carpet, or
just two poles and dirt patch.
This will vary, but your targetfrom the T area is a basket.
This metal basket with chains iswhere you are throwing the disc
to, but when your throws landsshort of the basket, this spot

(00:48):
is referred to as your lie.
This lie is where your disclands and is the spot where you
will pick it up and throw againtowards the basket until your
disc lands in it.
Each completed throw is called astroke.
Once you are done, you willcount up how many strokes it

(01:09):
took you, and this is your scorefor this completed hole.
You then move on in numericalorder.
One, two, three to the next Tarea, and repeat the process
until the course is finished.
Winning the game is just likeball golf most of the time
because we are playing to havefun, but if playing with others,

(01:33):
the person with the lowestnumber of strokes is the winner.
Each hole in disc golf has anassigned number to it.
If the sign on the T pad saysthree, or say par three, then
you're expected to get a disc inthe basket on the third throw.
There are par fours and parfives, but the most common is

(01:55):
par three.
If you are on a course that hasa lot of fours, and fives, try
and find another course, or atleast use the shortest T areas
that are available.
Some courses have T areas formore advanced players, and then
they will have shorter T areasfor us normal people.

(02:15):
Course etiquette.
Be mindful of other players, parkgoers, and the environment.
Why do I keep referring to abasket as a whole?
Because we disc golfers don'thave much of an imagination,
apparently, and have not thoughtof something else to call it.
They first called a disc golfbasket a pole hole.

(02:40):
But since most of us havejuvenile sense of humor, we did
not hang on to that term verylong.
When throwing a disc, you do nothave to throw the same disc over
and over.
If you have more than one, switch it up until you figure
out which one works best foryou.
Tips for disc golf beginnersthat we see on the internet.

(03:03):
Start with a few discs.
A putter, a mid-range, and adriver is a good starting set.
Focus on form because good formis more important than power for
beginners.
Practice throwing flat and low,and this will help you develop
accuracy play with betterplayers so you can learn from

(03:25):
their experience.
Local clubs and leagues are veryhelpful, but most importantly,
have fun! JT Norton's tips Discsto use.
There are what we call flightnumbers on every disc.
The first number is speed.
I want you to stay focused onthis one for now.

(03:46):
Don't throw these things like abackyard or beach frisbee.
Most are designed completelydifferent.
Practice throwing flat and low.
There are three main types ofdisks putters, fairway drivers,
and distance drivers.
Initially avoid high speeddistance drivers and maintain a

(04:08):
speed of ten or less.
Fairway drivers are also calledmid-range disks by some players.
And if you have a putter and afew fairway drivers, this is
really all you need to getstarted.
Once you have mastered a fasterarm speed, proper form, and
snap, higher speed, drivers willwork more effectively for you.

(04:31):
All big manufacturers sellthree-pack starter kits, and the
sport is generally pretty damnaffordable.
The more serious you get, themore expensive it becomes.
It is still buttload cheaperthan ball golf, and there are
many more courses for us and arefree to play yes premium plastic

(04:52):
matters, but not when startingout, because you are going to
suck at first.
I highly recommend the UDisc APPfor tracking your disc golf
journey, but some people don'tlike it, mainly because they
whine about the price I have thepro version.
But there is a free option.

(05:13):
It is a great way to find newcourses using the map option.
I have been using it since Ibegan playing and won't go
anywhere without it.
If you're a traveler, well, thenyou really should have it.
Finding new courses withplayers.
Reviews makes grabbing coursesalong the way stupid easy.
