Speaker 1 (00:10):
Welcome back to the
Divine Harmony Faith Podcast.
I'm so glad you guys are here, whether you're tuning in during
your quiet time, folding laundry, drinking coffee, driving to
work or just trying to squeezein a little Jesus between the
chaos of life.
Today we are diving intoGenesis, chapter 9.
And let me just say thischapter is full of grace fresh
(00:33):
starts, a reminder that Goddoesn't give up on us, even when
we mess up or life feels likeit's falling apart.
If you have not done so already, guys, please like, share,
subscribe.
It's how I get the gospel outto those that want to hear it
and those that don't.
All right, guys, I have aquestion.
(00:54):
Well, more of a statement thana question.
Well, I guess it could be both.
Have you ever felt like youneeded rest?
That's the question.
Have you ever felt like youneeded rest?
Or, if you've ever felt likeyou needed rest, like you've
come through a storm and you'renot quite sure what comes next,
(01:18):
or maybe you're walking with Godbut still struggling to get it
right.
This message is for you, guys.
We're going to talk about whatit means to walk in fresh
beginnings, why your life isvaluable to God and how his
promise still shows up in themiddle of our mess.
So just take a breath for asecond, get cozy and let's get
into the word together.
(01:40):
So today's title is God KeepsHis Promise.
That's the title of our messagetoday.
God Keeps His Promise.
It's a fresh start prayer.
I truthfully believe God wantedme to talk about this today,
(02:04):
and I just want to cover thisword so that it reaches the
people that it needs to reach, that I decrease and God
increases, so that what isbrought forth is of Him and not
of me.
So take a moment, a quicksecond.
We're just going to pray realquick.
So, father God, thank you fortoday, thank you for every
(02:25):
person listening right now, whether they're washing dishes,
whether they're driving to workor they're just sitting still
with you, lord God, getting kidsready.
Speak to our hearts throughthis word.
Help us to see you clearly andknow that you are still making
all things new.
In Jesus' name, amen, amen.
All right, guys, withoutfurther ado, let's dive right in
(02:48):
.
So, genesis 9,.
It's strange, because thischapter came to me in my quiet
time.
God was speaking to my heartabout a new beginning and he's
letting me know that all as oftoday.
And it's so strange, guys, andI'm going to be very transparent
with you today because Itruthfully believe God wants
(03:08):
this to get out, and I don'tknow who it's for, but I just
pray that it blesses whoeverneeds to hear it.
But with me, guys, it's strangebecause I have been walking
with Christ.
God has opened up multipledoors for me recently with this
podcast and writing my book andthings like that, and here I was
already thinking that I wasdoing everything that God has
called me to do, and as of thismorning, he has just wowed me
(03:33):
and said you're in the middle ofa new beginning.
Do away and stop thinking aboutanything that you did in the
past, anything that you didbefore.
You are walking in a newbeginning and with that new
beginning comes new thoughts, new attitudes, new desires, new
(03:54):
characteristic traits, newintentionalities, new actions,
and that is what God spoke to myheart about this morning.
So I just want to encourage youguys, before we get started,
that if God is talking to youand he's bringing you out of an
old season into a new season, you need to treat that like a
(04:15):
new beginning, like a freshstart.
The slate has been wiped clean.
Anything you did in the past isin the past and you are moving
forward in your new beginningwith a clean slate.
All right, guys, let's getstarted.
So Genesis 9 is one of thosechapters I used to really skip
(04:38):
over.
Now I'm not even going to sayso much Genesis 9, but the book
of Genesis, and it's because andnot the whole book, but like
the beginning, part of itBecause I always like these are
the stories that you heardgrowing up.
Right, okay, god created theearth Seven days.
It was good, he rested.
Like everyone knows, this storyit's the number one story that
(04:58):
you're told in Sunday school.
So I'm not going to say Ididn't read it, because I did
used to read it, but I used toalso skip over it.
Honestly, if I'm going to behonest, it felt so far away.
You know Noah, the ark, arainbow.
But, guys, when I really sloweddown, I realized that this
chapter is about starting over.
It's about making mistakes andhow God keeps showing up anyway,
(05:22):
and the Lord really had tobring that insight to me.
So I stopped skipping over itand I started diving in it, like
God brought me back to Genesis.
It's the beginning, newbeginnings.
He brought me back to thebeginning and he said dive in
this study it.
There's so many nuggets in hereand the chapter is really
powerful.
So it's about starting over.
(05:43):
It's about making mistakes andhow God keeps showing up anyway,
no matter what.
So if you've ever like, haveyou ever needed a fresh start?
You know, maybe you've messedup, maybe life just fell apart,
or maybe you're just trying tofigure out how to trust God
again.
If that's you, this chapter isfor you and I will encourage you
to go read Genesis.
(06:04):
Start in chapter 9, because hetalks about blessings and new
starts and a different covenantthat he has with Noah.
From the beginning heimplements new things that
they're able to do, and we'regoing to walk through some of
those today.
So let's just start withGenesis 9, 1 through 7,.
Right, so God blessed Noah andhis family after the storm, and
(06:28):
in Genesis 9, 1 through 7, itstarts with then God blessed
Noah and his sons, saying tothem be fruitful and multiply
and fill the earth.
I love that, because first thingGod does after the flood is he
blesses them.
Right, so they were obedient.
They listened to God, even whenthey couldn't see it, even when
they didn't know what wouldcome or what would happen.
(06:51):
Even when God spoke to them andthey may not have always
believed, because a lot of timesas just like we're all human,
just like we do today, we haveto see it.
God speaks, but we need toactually see it in our lives and
when he speaks to us, we haveto trust in faith that things
are going to happen, because wemay not see it in that moment.
(07:11):
I love the first thing that Goddid, and what he did was bless
them for their obedience.
When you are obedient to Godand you follow his voice and
what he tells you to do, there'salways blessing.
In the end, he doesn't scoldthem or remind them of what they
went through or what they didwrong, because I'm sure during
(07:32):
this time of trusting God andbeing in this ark, there were
probably things that went wrong.
He didn't condemn, he didn'tscold them, he blessed them.
That's the kind of God we serve.
That is the heart that God has.
They've just been through ahuge storm.
Literally Everything they knewwas gone, but now God gives them
(07:54):
a new purpose.
He says go, grow, fill theearth.
That is his way of saying I'mnot done with you.
There's still life to live andlisten if you're coming out of a
storm right now, maybe abreakup, a loss, a mistake?
God wants you to know the samething.
You're still here for a reason.
He's not done writing yourstory.
You're still here for a reasonhe's not done writing your story
(08:15):
.
God also gives some rules.
He tells them they can now eatmeat, but not with the blood in
it.
Why does he say that?
Because, I looked it up, bloodrepresents life.
And then he makes it reallyclear Human life is sacred.
So not only does he introducemeat into the picture, because
(08:38):
now they can eat meat, but hetells them about not eating the
blood.
Right, because he doesn't wantthem to not know how sacred
human life is.
So he's bringing that into play.
And it says whoever sheds blood, human blood, for in the image
of God has God made mankind.
So whoever sheds human blood, for in the image of God, has God
(09:01):
made mankind.
It's a reminder that everyperson matters.
You matter.
That person who gets on yournerves matters.
They matter too.
We all carry God's image.
Even when we're messy, evenwhen we're struggling, god does
not make mistake.
We carry his image.
We were made in the image ofGod.
And he's reminding Noah and hisfamily in the beginning,
(09:24):
because they are starting I'meven saying we are starting anew
.
They are starting anew, okay.
So he is reminding them.
Hey, every single person wasmade in God's image.
So no matter what you feelabout the person, no matter what
you see, no matter how they act, no matter how your brother is,
(09:45):
no matter how your cousins act,no matter how that person acts
on your job, they are all madein God's image.
Also, in Genesis 9, 8 through 17, god makes a promise that still
stands.
Now here's the part that getsme.
Every time, god doesn't justsay good luck, noah, right, go
(10:06):
on your way.
No, he makes a promise.
He makes a promise to Noah andsays never again will I destroy
the earth by flood.
I am making a covenant with youand with all living creatures
that he would never do thatagain.
And then he gives themsomething to hold on to a
rainbow.
Right, I don't know about you,but sometimes I need a sign and
I am telling you.
I could be driving down thestreet and I see that rainbow
(10:28):
and it immediately makes methink of God.
Something so small to remind methat God sees me.
And that's what that rainbowwas a sign that God keeps his
promises, even when the worldfeels shaky.
So the next time you're in yourcar, you're taking a walk down
the street, you're driving downthe highway and you see that
(10:48):
rainbow in the sky, rememberthat God sees you.
That is what that rainbowrepresents.
Remember that God sees you.
That is what that rainbowrepresents.
It was a sign that God keepshis promises, even when the
world feels shaky.
So when you're feeling that wayand you see that rainbow, know
that he sees you, know that hekeeps his promises.
Here's what's amazing therainbow wasn't just for Noah, it
(11:10):
was for all generation.
It's for us today.
That means it's for you too.
Every time you see one, it'sGod saying I haven't forgotten
you, I'm still here, I keep mycovenant, I keep my promise.
And notice, this covenant didn'tcome after Noah did something
amazing.
It came just because God isgood.
That's what grace is, andthat's what it looks like.
(11:33):
Noah didn't have to do anythingfor this covenant, right?
He didn't do anythingmiraculous.
I mean, yes, he was obedient toGod and he followed the calling
on his life.
Yes, he did that.
But the covenant didn't comeafter Noah did something amazing
.
It came just because God isgood.
That's what grace looks like.
And then we get into Genesis, chapter 9.
(11:54):
This is the root.
This is where God actually sentme.
This is where God actually saidgo and read this and do these
things and live like this andact like this and receive this.
This is where God sent meGenesis, chapter 9.
Now we're going to talk aboutverses 18 through 19, when the
(12:15):
righteous fall.
Okay, now here comes the part ofthe story that's a little messy
, because, let's be real, lifeis messy sometimes.
So Noah plants a vineyard, right, he makes wine, he drinks
too much and he ends up passedout in his tent.
This is the same guy who builtthe ark, the same one God chose
to restart the world.
And here he is, drunk and naked, in a tent.
(12:39):
Guys, this spoke to me so muchright now in my life, because I
was sitting here striving andstriving to do goodness, to do
great, great things, to liverighteously, to walk in God's
light.
But it was all through works, ina sense, where I was like, if I
stay on this path and I stayfocused and I don't watch TV and
I don't do this and I don't dothat, that's what my mind
(13:00):
started trickling into, and theenemy can use that, that worry
and that guilt and that this andthat to try to get you off the
path that God has you on.
But we serve a mighty God.
And when I tell you he broughtme to this and said I use Noah,
a drunken and naked Noah, tostart the whole earth over, to
(13:22):
restart the whole world, guys, the same one God chose, who was
drunk and naked that hit me hardthe first time I really read it
and understood it, becausesometimes we think people in the
Bible had it all together, butthey were human, just like us.
And honestly, no one reminds meof me, reminds me of myself
(13:43):
sometimes.
Here I'm just going to behonest.
I've had days where I was doingso well, I was reading my Bible
, I was praying, I was showingup for my family, and then the
next day I'm short-tempered,overwhelmed, I'm crying in the
bathroom.
We fall, we stumble, but Godstill stays.
He still stays.
And what happened next in thisimportant story, this section
(14:09):
that spoke to my heart so deeply?
What happened next was Noah'sson's hand sees him like that
and instead of helping, heexposes him, literally and
emotionally.
He runs and tells his brothers, but the other two sons, shem
and Japheth they walk inbackwards and cover their dad
without even looking at him.
That's the kind of grace I wantto carry, that is what I want
(14:35):
for my life, the kind thatdoesn't gossip or shame but
covers and protects.
That is the kind of grace Iwant for my life, because love
covers and when people fallshort, we can either expose them
or help to restore them.
Now, later, noah speaks a hardword over Ham's son, canaan a
(14:55):
generational consequence.
That part was tough, I'm sure, because I'm sure when he was
gossiping and talking and sayingwhat he was saying, laughing
whatever he was doing becausethe Bible doesn't go into detail
about it I'm sure he truthfullyI mean because I could think
about myself in situations inthe past where you might see
something as what's going onwith her, why she look like that
(15:16):
.
You know anything.
You're not saying certainthings to be, you know, mean or
to be devious, but we have towatch what we say.
We have to cover those that arein need.
We have to encourage and upliftthem and be a covering for them
.
But what he said hadconsequences, generational
consequences, and I know thathad to be tough.
(15:37):
But what I take from it is howwe act today can affect the next
generation.
That's what I gather from that, because although he cursed him,
if you go and you read the restof the chapters, it was a
generational curse.
The Canaanites came back andhated the Israelites and Israel
they were against them came backand hated the Israelites and
(15:58):
Israel they were against them.
So it actually went off intopeople who weren't even born yet
to generations.
And I thought about that and Isaid, how we act today can
affect the next generation.
Our choices matter, but so doesour honor and our grace.
And let's make it personal.
Let's make it personal for asecond.
And let's make it personal.
Let's make it personal for asecond.
How does Genesis 9 apply to you?
How does it apply to you?
(16:19):
How does it apply to me?
Think about it.
Your story isn't over yet.
God gave Noah and his family abrand new start after the flood,
and no matter what you've beenthrough, whether it was a storm
you caused or one you survived, god still has more for you.
God sees you and values yourlife.
You are made in his image, notjust when you're doing great,
(16:43):
but even when you're crying, when you're doubting or starting
over.
You are made in his image andhe wants you to treat others the
same way, with respect and care, even when they don't deserve
it.
So, personalizing Genesis 9,the first thing is your story
isn't over.
The second thing is God seesyou and values your life because
(17:06):
you're made in his image, notjust when you're doing good guys
, but even when you're doing bad.
You have to know that and thathe also wants us to respect and
care for others, even when theydon't deserve it.
Because, guess what?
The same grace that you wantfrom God is the same grace that
he expects you to extend tosomeone else.
(17:28):
The third way we can personalizethis is the rainbow is still
speaking.
Guys, god's promise didn'texpire.
His word is not void.
It is a reminder of howpowerful his word is, that
trillions of years ago he couldsay I'm going to put a rainbow
in the sky and I'm going toleave it there so that you and
(17:49):
generations to come will see it.
And today we are seeing it.
What a powerful God that can dothis.
We got to remember the God thatwe serve.
We have to remember the Godthat we served.
God's promises didn't expire.
He's still faithful.
He still shows up.
So when you're feelingdiscouraged, look for your
(18:09):
rainbow.
Maybe it's a phone call, maybeit's a verse, a moment of peace,
maybe it's listening to mypodcast.
He's always leaving signs ofhope, guys, always.
So when you're feeling down, look for your rainbow, because
God said that he put that thereas a promise and a reminder to
us.
(18:30):
And four remember nobody isperfect, not even me, not you.
Even Noah messed up, but Goddidn't throw him away.
If you've made a mistake, or ifyou've made five, god's grace
is bigger than your failure.
Don't let shame have the finalsay.
If you have made any mistakesin your life I know I've made
(18:52):
plenty of them Remember thatGod's grace is bigger than your
failure.
Don't let that shame creep up.
Don't let the enemy use thatshame to creep up and speak a
word into your mind and get youoff track.
Do not let shame have the finalsay.
(19:15):
The fifth way we can personalizethis chapter 9, genesis cover.
Don't cancel.
Let's be people who cover eachother with grace.
Let's be women who say hey, Isee you struggling, but I'm not
here to judge you, I'm here tohelp you.
I always say that God placed onmy heart to have this podcast,
(19:38):
that it is open to any andeveryone that needs to come on
and speak a word, that needs toget on and get encouragement.
When I do my lives, when I domy conversations on YouTube and
things like that, I see thestruggle in my fellow brothers
and sisters, but I am not hereto judge them, I am here to help
(19:59):
them.
I want to be a helping hand tomy brothers and sisters, and God
brought me to Genesis 9 toteach me one, to encourage me
two, and to three, give meconfirmation.
That's what he gave me throughthis, confirmation that the path
that I am on is the path thathe wants me on.
(20:21):
But he says let me help you onthat path, let me show you some
of the things that you need todo or that you need to
understand.
Let me speak a word of life inyou while you're on that journey
.
So, guys, genesis 9, it isn'tjust about a boat and a rainbow.
It's about starting fresh, trusting again and remembering
(20:41):
that, even when we fall short, god never does.
If you feel like you are in arebuilding season, like me, if
you're trying to make sense ofyour mess, or if you just need
to be reminded that God keepshis promise, this chapter is for
you, please, please, go andread it, meditate on it.
(21:02):
Don't take my words for what itis.
Don't, don't, don't just takeme.
I am just a vessel.
I pray that I decrease and godincreases to get it out to his
people.
But I want you to experience itfor yourself.
Go read the chapter.
Let God speak directly to yourheart.
Let God speak directly to youso that you gain an
(21:25):
understanding in your newbeginning season if that is a
season, that's your end Because, guys, I'm telling you, god
spoke a word over me thismorning and he told me you are
in a new season.
This is a new beginning.
The slate has been wiped clean.
You are starting from scratch.
Walk and act like you are.
Walk and act like you haveauthority, the same authority
(21:47):
that God gave Noah in the newbeginning.
Walk and act like you know whatmy word says, that you know who
you are and whose you are.
Walk in that.
So let me encourage you, guys.
Read the scripture for yourself.
Ask God to speak to your heart.
Ask him to let the words jumpoff the page and resonate within
(22:07):
you, to open your eyes and earsso that you can receive what
God has for you today.
All right, guys, I want tothank you so much for joining me
.
I'd like to close in prayer.
So, god, thank you for secondchances, thank you for the
(22:29):
rainbow, lord God.
Thank you, heavenly Father, foryour reminder that you haven't
left us and you never will.
That every time we see thatrainbow we can stand firm, that
your word does not go out void, that you are there, willing and
able, that you are with us, thatyou have not left us, that you
have left us with a promise, lord, that that rainbow has gone
(22:51):
across thousands and thousandsof generations and we still see
it today, and there's thousandsand thousands of generations
that's going to come until youcome back, lord God, that is
going to see that rainbow andknow that you have not left us.
So thank you, lord God, forsecond chances, thank you for
your rainbow, thank you for thereminder and thank you that you
(23:14):
never will leave us.
Help us to be people who givegrace, who value life and who
cover each other with love.
We trust you with our freshstart, lord God.
We trust you with our freshstart, lord God.
We trust that you know all, lord God, and that you will give
us the insight, the knowledge, the understanding to walk the
(23:34):
path that you have preparedbefore us, lord God.
In this new start, lord God, Ipray that eyes would be opened,
that ears would be opened, thathearts would be opened to
receive what you have for them, lord God, I pray that eyes would
be opened, that ears would beopen, that hearts would be open
to receive what you have forthem, lord God, so that they can
go courageously in this walk.
That they can walk courageously, lord God, that they can be
courageous.
In Jesus' name, I pray amen andamen.
(23:58):
Guys, I never want to take forgranted that someone listening
knows Christ, because you can belong before you believe.
But I want to encourage you andI want to extend this gracious
offer that God has provided forus, and that is salvation.
There's no special talk, there's no special wow moment.
(24:24):
You just need to accept Christas your blood and Savior, open
your mouth and confess it, thatyou accept Christ as your blood
and Savior.
So in a second I'm going tojust say some words that you can
follow if you need a guide, buttalk to God for yourself.
Talk to God for yourself, prayand speak to the Lord.
He is there, waiting with openarms to receive you.
(24:45):
No matter what you've done inyour life, no matter what you're
in the middle of doing, talk toGod.
He is there, waiting for you.
So please repeat after me ifyou are ready to accept Christ
as your Lord and Savior.
If you have backslidden or ifyou feel distant from God, pray
this prayer with me.
Heavenly Father, I know I am asinner.
(25:07):
I ask, lord God, that you comeinto my life.
Renew a spirit within me, lord, light a fire and a desire in me
.
Accept me as your child.
Welcome me home, lord God, withopen arms.
I repent of my sins today and Iask that you come into my life.
(25:33):
Renew a spirit within me.
In Jesus' name.
I pray Amen and amen.
Guys, if you have prayed thatprayer, I want to say welcome
home.
