Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, guys, if you missed the last segment, we
were talking about Ananda Lewisand her journey through breast
cancer, especially the fact thatme had been a resident and
doing breast surgery inresidency, so he gives a little
bit more nuance into that story.
So check out that segment Nowwe're going to be talking about

(00:21):
I want to.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
I want to introduce a new segment.
I want to introduce a segmentcalled the vitals check.
That's right, alfred, give melike a little like EKG tracing
or like boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom.
You know what I'm saying.
You know what I'm talking about, right, renan, ekg SVT.
So I want to start updatingeverybody on my goal.

(00:42):
I want to start updatingeverybody on my goal.
Um, I have a goal where I wantto run under 20 minutes in a 5k,
right, so that's averagingaround 620, I think, per mile um
, and this is straight off of norunning.
So now I'm running and then Ialso want to be able to bench
250 pounds.
So sometime in a week or in acouple of days, I want to be

(01:02):
able to break, uh, 20 minutes ina 5k and I want to be able to
bench 250 pounds and um, strong,it's uh strong and strong
endurance.
Yeah, yeah, it's been tough.
It's been really tough becausebefore I was just lifting hard,
right, and now it's.

(01:23):
I'm splitting my week now intothree days of running, three
days of working out and, as amatter of fact, this week I just
finished my deload week andwhat that is is basically I will
work out straight for six weeks, right, like hitting it hard
every day for six weeks, and Ido like five to six different

(01:43):
types of workouts on differentdays, and when I finished that
six week period at the end ofsix weeks, then I do some like
really easy lifting for a week.
The mileage that I run goesdown dramatically and it's just
a way for me to recover.
You know what I'm saying.
So that was this past week.

Speaker 1 (02:04):
I know you work out every day but I don't know what
you're doing.
But I didn't realize thatthat's me.

Speaker 2 (02:09):
You're not paying attention.
Though I'm not paying attention, you should be paying attention
.
Yeah, that was my deloading.

Speaker 1 (02:15):
You don't tell me about deload debo, you don't ask
.
I'm supposed to ask are youdeloading I?

Speaker 2 (02:26):
I'm supposed to ask are you deloading?
I've never heard of that before.
Well, okay, maybe not that, butyou could ask like, hey, what
phase of working out are you in?
Nene?

Speaker 1 (02:31):
Well, I don't even know that.
There's phases of working out.
No.

Speaker 2 (02:35):
Now you know.

Speaker 1 (02:37):
And knowing is half the battle, gi Joe and knowing
is half the battle GI Joe.

Speaker 2 (02:48):
And the maximum miles that I did this past week was
12 miles.

Speaker 1 (02:50):
So that was it, that was it?

Speaker 2 (02:52):
what was your pace?
Um, my pace is anywhere so I dolike easy.
There's sometimes when I'll dolike an easy run, like a six
mile run.
That's just easy pace.
So that's for me like 9, 30 tolike 10 minute mile pace.
That's just building myendurance and cardio.
And then there's some workoutswhere I'm running but I'm like
mimicking the 5K pace, you knowtempo runs and so forth.

(03:15):
But I didn't do any of thatlast week.
Last week was just running andlong distance runs and that was
it.

Speaker 1 (03:23):
So you're not like Faith Kip.

Speaker 2 (03:27):
Yegon, uh, keep, oh, shout out to faith.
Keep your egg on.
Yo yo, faith, keep your egg on.
Who is the best middle distancerunner?
Um, of all time, at least froma from a woman perspective.
Um, she like.
So she tried to break fourminutes in a mile and her best,
her previous best mile time was407.8, which means that she has

(03:50):
to drop eight seconds.
That was crazy.
So Nike created like this hugeevent.
They gave her a special type ofoutfit, they gave her a special
type of shoe, her a specialtype of shoe.
They even arranged for, likeall of her colleagues and all of
her people that she trains with, to pace her and the pace that
she basically needed to drop twoseconds off each 400 meters in

(04:13):
order to break the record which,if you think about it, she's
running 407 and probablyvomiting all over the place.
Now you're asking her okay, each time you go into the lap,
what you just did?
Two, two seconds faster, yeah, two seconds faster.
Right, hold it.
Her first 800 was, guys, herfirst 800 was in two minutes.
Just so y'all know.

(04:34):
Her first 800 was in twominutes, y'all she was going so
fast.

Speaker 1 (04:39):
What about that third lap though?

Speaker 2 (04:42):
Yeah, she was going so fast she couldn't get paced
by women.
They had to have dudes pace it.

Speaker 1 (04:47):
Yeah, yeah.
Because there's nobody who canrun as fast as how she's running
Because there were two womenwho started out with her.

Speaker 2 (04:54):
They're in the back though.

Speaker 1 (04:56):
Well, they were kind of in the middle, yeah, and then
they were behind her the wholetime.
Yeah, but I'm saying they werein the middle of the pack.
They were behind her, but theywere in the middle of the pack
and I think eventually they theydropped off.
No, I think that's a goodquestion.
I don't dropped off at the end,but either way, yeah, I mean we

(05:17):
were screaming in the house.

Speaker 2 (05:20):
I think track this is what track needs more of.
Track needs more of this.
Several years ago they did thiswith Kipchoge and Marathon.
They wanted to see could hebreak two hours?
So they gave him a special typeof marathon course.
That's like downhill.
He had special type of shoes.
He broke it.
But it's not a world recordbecause there's so many
different things that factorinto him trying to break it.

Speaker 1 (05:41):
Yeah too controlled.

Speaker 2 (05:44):
So the same thing happened with faith, like
because she had male pacers um.
The shoes that she had werespecial type of shoes, but she
ended up running 406, so shetook like a second off yeah,
yeah so, um, either way, theeffort was amazing, it was
amazing.
It was track and field needsmore exciting.

Speaker 1 (05:59):
um, yeah, it was very exciting event.
We were screaming in this house.
I'm like yelling, like shecould hear me through the TV.
I'm like come on, show them whoyou are.
Like Black Panther, show themwho you are.

Speaker 2 (06:24):
Yeah, I think it's still still.
For me it's still, and that'swhy I really like working out,
because I think one of thethings about working out is it
gets my juices going and likethere's still athletic feats
that I want to be able toaccomplish, and watching that on
TV it's just like I'll never, ever, run that fast, but it's
still amazing to see someone goafter that, you know.

(06:44):
And I think it's even better tosee all those resources towards
the women's side of track andfield, which I think is, you
know, very important, like itreminds me of Flojo, it reminds
me of you know.

Speaker 1 (06:55):
Jackie Joyner.

Speaker 2 (06:57):
Jackie Joyner Kirstie .
Like this is the way it shouldbe.
So you know, and the reason whyI wanted to talk about this
during this segment is because, like we talk about these topics,
a lot may not be fitness, butwe talk about burnout, we talk
about time management and wetalk about longevity in medicine
.
Right, and you know, I'll gobackwards with longevity in

(07:17):
medicine.
Like, how many doctors you seewho ignore their bodies?
Right, like they take care oftheir patients, they're there
for their patients all the time, but they ignore their bodies.
Some of them smoke, some ofthem are overweight, some of
them, you know, diabetes, whatever you could think of in
terms of whatever it may be nottaking care of themselves.
And this is the longest.

Speaker 1 (07:38):
I feel like a shot was fired at me.

Speaker 2 (07:40):
And you think a mirror.
You see a mirror up.
No but I can see myself on thescreen.

Speaker 1 (07:47):
Oh no.

Speaker 2 (07:48):
But yeah, I mean, I'm not talking about you
specifically.
I don't think you're my body.

Speaker 1 (07:51):
You always telling me babe, you got to walk, you got
to do something.

Speaker 2 (07:54):
Oh, hold on real quick Before I move on, then
let's talk about too, what areyour, what's your vitals check.

Speaker 1 (07:59):
So my vitals check.
I started walking and I have afriend that I'm walking with now
, so she lives like a block away, which is great.
A neighborhood wife yes, aneighborhood, another
neighborhood, wife walking andmy goal.

(08:22):
We were talking about this onour walk like what should our
goal be in terms of steps?
Right, and we were talkingabout like the 5,000 steps or
10,000 steps, and things likethat I think I'm going to go for
10,000.
Yeah, you can do it.
I think I'm going to go for10,000.

Speaker 2 (08:40):
Now, I did Especially during the school year,
especially during the schoolyear, because you got to walk to
pick up the kids.

Speaker 1 (08:44):
Well, yeah, yeah, yeah, but that's not 10,000
steps.
Right, to go pick up the kids, that's not 10,000 steps, but I
think we can do.
I think we can get to 10,000steps.
And it's funny because one ofthe things that she and I were,
you know, the other day Icouldn't make it because I was
at work.
She was like oh, the other day, when you couldn't make it, I

(09:05):
decided to go out by myself andwalk.
And she goes oh, my god, she'slike.
I felt like why is it taking solong?

Speaker 2 (09:13):
yeah, yeah, when you don't have an accountability
partner, right, it changeseverything it just changes
everything.

Speaker 1 (09:19):
And you know the whole thing.
You know you want to go fast,go alone.
You want to go far, go together.
And you know I would wholething.
You know, you want to go fast,go alone.
You want to go far, go together.
And you know I would say, and I, you know, I was telling her
that, you know that, like, thatproverb is so true, right,
because we go so much fartherwhen we're together than we
would if we were walking alone, you know.
And so today we did our walkand we, I mean, we did a loop,

(09:44):
we did, we did a crazy loop, andit was hot.

Speaker 2 (09:49):
It was hot how long have you been doing this for?

Speaker 1 (09:53):
How long have you been walking now?
For we started like two weeks.

Speaker 2 (09:56):
Two weeks now, two weeks ago, yeah, but what's your
goals?

Speaker 1 (09:59):
My schedule, my work schedule.
This these past two weeks,weeks.
Thankfully, I have one morecall and then like that's that's
it, so it won't be asdisruptive anymore.
Um, but yeah, yeah, that that'smy goal.
My goal is I want to walk10,000 steps and I'm gonna put

(10:23):
it out there.
Should I put it out there?
So, I'm thinking about doingClick it to the bridge.
That's my theme music.

(10:45):
Okay, keep going.

Speaker 2 (10:49):
So I'm thinking about doing T25 again.
So if you guys remember, okay.

Speaker 1 (10:56):
I can't concentrate what you're singing, okay, thank
you, justin Timberlake.
Yeah, I'm thinking about doingT25 again.
If you guys remember what thatwas three years ago now, if you
guys remember what that wasthree years ago now.
Me, dr Ne challenged me to doT25 to complete the 10-week, I

(11:19):
guess, course, or whatever theycall it, and I did it Remember.

Speaker 2 (11:24):
Yeah, you did it, we did it all together.
It was great.

Speaker 1 (11:26):
Yeah, it was great, we did it, we did it all
together it was great.
Yeah, it was great, we did it.
And right after 10, like so 10weeks in one day, I was like I'm
done.

Speaker 2 (11:38):
This girl was eating damn frickin' Tootsie Rolls and
frickin' Twizzlers and shit Likeyo.

They buy black licorice for you.

My parents didn't buy candy.
My parents would parents to dostuff like that.
I'm like, so you?
