Isaac allen Burns (00:00):
Everybody,
it's your GM Isaac Allen Burns
here to give you a little bit ofcontext as to what this is. So
back couple months ago, therewere a couple of rules that were
released back in March, and wewanted to try and test those
out. So I had them makecharacters very different from
what they were before, and wethen ran this one shot and me as
your GM forgot that it had tohave combat in it to actually
(00:22):
showcase any of those rules. Sothis, you know, it didn't
exactly do what we were hopingit to, but we thought it was
still pretty good. There's stillsome good stuff in there.
So we hope you enjoy maybe theworst one shot that I've ever
done. So cue the music. Hey,everybody. Welcome hey,
(01:44):
everybody. Welcome let me trythat again.
Sorry. Hey, everybody. Welcometo this, a bonus episode of Dodo
Born Podcast. And with me todayare the same people but with
different faces. To my left, Ihave Rowan Collins.
Rowan Collins, why don't you saythe name of your new character
and then say hello?
Rowan Collins (02:04):
Sure. So today, I
am playing section d processor
j, otherwise known as DJ, Afungal wild born wizard school
of knowledge.
Isaac allen Burns (02:15):
Oh. We're
playing a wizard. Across the
table from Rowan Collins, wehave one, Joe Diomede.
Joe Diametti (02:22):
Yeah. I am playing
Kinsey, the underborn in Faerie
Seraph.
Isaac allen Burns (02:28):
Oh. Seraph.
Seraph.
Annie Hawthorne (02:30):
Seraph. Seraph.
Seraph.
Isaac allen Burns (02:33):
Seraph
Seraph. Am I right, gang? Hey.
Rowan Collins (02:35):
We have sans
seraph.
Isaac allen Burns (02:37):
We got a
serif. We got a wizard. And then
in between the two of themsitting on the bench, we've got
one, Annie Hawthorne.
Annie Hawthorne (02:45):
Hey, everybody.
It's an orc warrior named May,
who has been an outcast from herclan for fighting with dishonor.
So
Rowan Collins (02:55):
Uh-oh. Dishonor
amongst warriors.
Isaac allen Burns (02:58):
And it's me,
the same old person, Isaac Allen
Burns. I'm still your GM. I'mstill your best friend. I'm
still moving on. Well, gang, let's start in the present,
except let's go to the past byabout a handful of years.
We're back in the schoolhouse.Pistachio, you are a child once
(03:20):
again. And up at the front,Timothee Toulouse is speaking to
your class. He says, alright, everybody. Now just remember,
soon it will be peace day, whichas you know corresponds to the
Spring Solstice.
So, just make sure you weargreen to school or you will get
(03:41):
kicked in the shins. Okay?
Rowan Collins (03:44):
Mr. Toulouse?
Isaac allen Burns (03:45):
Yes,
Pistachio.
Rowan Collins (03:46):
But can I wear a
please don't kick me in the
shins shirt that might not begreed because I think I think my
green shirt might be a littlebit torn up from the last time?
Joe Diametti (03:57):
Mister Toulouse?
Yes? Can I wear my kick me, I'm
solstice shirt?
Isaac allen Burns (04:05):
Well, you as
long as
Rowan Collins (04:07):
they're Yes.
Annie Hawthorne (04:09):
Can I wear my
father's green chalk strap?
Rowan Collins (04:14):
I'm sorry, Annie.
Wanna say that again?
Joe Diametti (04:17):
You wanna say that
for the mic
Isaac allen Burns (04:19):
just one more
time?
Annie Hawthorne (04:20):
Oh, that
Isaac allen Burns (04:22):
was funny.
Joe Diametti (04:24):
Annie has
literally fallen out of the
chair for
Isaac allen Burns (04:30):
Jesus. I'm
learning so much about my
students that I truly do notListen, everyone. Settle down.
Settle down, children. Look, youcan as long as you're wearing
green because we all here knowthe tradition of Peace Day and
where it came about.
Right?
Rowan Collins (04:51):
Oh, dear.
Isaac allen Burns (04:55):
Okay. Well,
allow me to explain. And you see
Timothee pulls down thechalkboard and begins to write.
And he writes 13 o one on theboard, and we're transported
back in time. The year isthirteen o one, which is
(05:17):
approximately seven hundred andtwenty three years in the past,
and tensions are high.
Queen Arvold the seventh becamethe oldest monarch on record
last year. And in a dramaticturn, she snubbed her oldest
son, Prince Arvan the sixth, forthe throne, claiming he was too
(05:39):
hot headed and spoiled, andinstead bequeathed the throne to
her daughter, prince Arvold theeighth. Now rebel prince Arvan
did not take kindly to that, andwar has split our proud country
in twain. The queen's armies arestrongly ensconced to the West,
while the rebel prince hasmustered forces to the East. War
has been breaking out all acrossthe country in little
(06:01):
skirmishes, and nowhere else issuch tension strongly felt than
in the province of Shur'Tan.
Shur'Tan lies along the westernshores of Vol'dayne and is
marked by an enormous mountainrange that runs along the coast.
Shurtaan is the center ofmanufacturing for Vol'Dayne, and
it is a key strategic point inthe war. Within the province of
(06:23):
Shurtaan, we find a mining city, the mining city of Highcliff.
The cliffs are high, the minesare deep, and the people you get
to know them, they're reallygreat people. But for perhaps
outsiders coming in, it's a bitof a tough hang.
Not only are tensions high asthe armies sit while people wait
(06:45):
for the explosive beginning ofan all out war, it's also the
spring solstice. That's right, everybody. The spring solstice,
the spring time is upon us.That's right. In this world,
springtime is actually when thelongest days are.
So the spring solstice isactually when the day is
(07:06):
longest. Right? You get the mostdaytime. A lot of us may not be
familiar with that because inperhaps the world that you, the
listener, are in, it is calledthe spring equinox. However,
it's the spring solstice now.
Rowan Collins (07:20):
Isaac's just
messing with my concept of time.
Isaac allen Burns (07:24):
That's right.
The spring solstice. It's
typically a day of excitementand rejoicing. It's a time of
merriment and mirth. But rightnow, the city is under a pallor
of tension.
And that's where we find ourthree new people that we're
gonna introduce. Heroes is to bedetermined. There is a lift from
(07:49):
the valleys below that take youup the High Cliffs into the city
of High Cliff itself. And on oneof these lifts, we find three
individuals heading to the cityof High Cliff themselves. The
lift is certainly not thefastest option, but it is the
easiest and it beats trudging upsome switchbacks and cliffs
(08:10):
where you might find a cheetahgator or big birds that wanna
swoop you away.
Inside the lift, we see threepeople. Annie, you go first. Why
don't you describe yourcharacter for us and what
they're doing on this lift?
Annie Hawthorne (08:26):
You see an orc
woman who is very tall, kind of
broad in the shoulders, iswearing a leather vest that has
fur lining the collar and theshoulders, standing there
looking quite impatient, justwith her arms crossed. She goes,
(08:48):
I could have climbed thismountain faster than this.
Isaac allen Burns (08:51):
Yeah. And
what? I'll ask you, Annie.
What's the weather like outside?
Annie Hawthorne (08:57):
Well, I imagine
we're going to a city called,
what, High Cliff?
Isaac allen Burns (09:01):
High Cliff.
Yes.
Annie Hawthorne (09:02):
High Cliff. I'd
imagine it's quite brisk.
Isaac allen Burns (09:04):
It is brisk.
Annie Hawthorne (09:05):
It's
mountainous.
Isaac allen Burns (09:06):
It's chilly
outside.
Annie Hawthorne (09:07):
But, you know,
she's built for the mountains.
Her arms are bare, but nothing.Nothing she hasn't had plenty of
practice with. Strongconstitution, that's one.
Isaac allen Burns (09:20):
Strong
constitution.
Annie Hawthorne (09:22):
Doesn't feel
the cold.
Rowan Collins (09:23):
She has the right
to bear arms.
Joe Diametti (09:25):
Mhmm. We're
bearing arms all right. That's
right.
Isaac allen Burns (09:28):
That's hot.
Sitting next to our hot orc.
Joe, why don't you tell us aboutyour character?
Joe Diametti (09:37):
Yeah. So Kinsey is
an an fairy. He has a white
button up shirt, and you know, this thing around his neck, they
didn't have ties back then, butit definitely looks like one and
it's thin and black.
Isaac allen Burns (09:53):
Has a setter.
Joe Diametti (09:54):
Tan vest with tan
pants. And he has behind his
horns, this blonde medium pushback hair. He is the lightest
shade of violet for his skin. And he's holding a axe in one
hand and a shield in the other.Yeah.
That is Kinsey.
Isaac allen Burns (10:14):
Brandishing
weapons on the lift is Kinsey.
Joe Diametti (10:16):
Oh and he has
wings. I forgot. He's got wings.
He's got wings. Yeah.
They're like
Isaac allen Burns (10:20):
nice They're
Joe Diametti (10:21):
like nice they're
nice like I don't know. They're
like they're shorter wings, youknow. They're not giant but they
are wings. Yeah. And they'reblonde like his hair.
Isaac allen Burns (10:32):
Nice. And
I'll ask you Joe, what was the
exciting or mundane incidentthat occurred right as you all
got on this lift that you wereable to
Joe Diametti (10:42):
make small talk
about? We saw a couple fighting
over whether or not he wouldhold her purse while she went,
you know, to do somethinginside.
Isaac allen Burns (10:54):
A classic a
classic spat. The man was
clearly a little too selfconscious, a little too insecure
to simply hold a purse.
Joe Diametti (11:04):
Yeah, man. I don't
I don't know. I thought I
thought that the purse went withhis outfit. I don't really know
why he was so upset. I I wouldhave worn it, I think.
Annie Hawthorne (11:14):
I would have
too, even though it doesn't go
with my outfit at all. I mean,he's clearly very insecure in
his masculinity.
Joe Diametti (11:21):
We should have
taken it.
Isaac allen Burns (11:22):
Don't you
think?
Annie Hawthorne (11:24):
No. I I I
suppose I could have held it for
her.
Isaac allen Burns (11:27):
I mean,
Annie Hawthorne (11:28):
I could have
met y'all up here, you know.
Joe Diametti (11:30):
I just wanted it.
You could have taken the stuff
inside.
Annie Hawthorne (11:34):
You want you
wanna
Joe Diametti (11:35):
I could have
warned it. Yeah. I I carry
everything in this shield.
Annie Hawthorne (11:38):
I'm sure that
we could find you a purse like
that if you want.
Joe Diametti (11:42):
You think?
Annie Hawthorne (11:43):
Probably.
Downstage? Mean, we know at
least one exists.
Joe Diametti (11:47):
Okay. Just
something to think about.
Annie Hawthorne (11:50):
Yeah. Keep an
eye out for you.
Isaac allen Burns (11:52):
And sitting
next to these fashionistas.
Rowan Collins, describe yourcharacter for us.
Rowan Collins (11:58):
Alright. So you
have a little brown and white
fun girl who looks like as if ifyou've ever seen a trumpet
mushroom, it looks essentiallylike a little gramophone with a
speaker going up. And they havelittle cuts of wood that
essentially look like CDs thatare hanging from their frill
(12:19):
with a little what wouldessentially be a headset to our
modern viewers. But it is justlike earmuffs on their little
face. Their face is painted on.
They have no eyes and they haveno mouth. And they're just
sitting there with glowingwings, spinning one of the
little discs and humming tothemselves as music comes out of
(12:39):
their frill.
Isaac allen Burns (12:41):
So you're
like a speaker almost? Yep.
Incredible.
Rowan Collins (12:43):
Yep. They're just
like, yeah. I think that you
would be very good with thepurse too.
Joe Diametti (12:53):
Thank you, DJ.
That means a lot to me.
Rowan Collins (12:56):
You're welcome. I
still don't understand what a
purse is though. And why dopeople not like it when I assume
you are male?
Joe Diametti (13:09):
I am.
Rowan Collins (13:09):
Alright. Why do
people not like it when males
wear these purses?
Joe Diametti (13:16):
I don't know.
Suppose I haven't thought about
it.
Annie Hawthorne (13:20):
Think that as
the fairer sex, males tend to be
a little insecure.
Rowan Collins (13:30):
We can understand
that. However, we do not
understand why many people areinsecure. We just are
altogether.
Joe Diametti (13:40):
How are you doing,
Annie Hawthorne (13:41):
though? Creepy.
Joe Diametti (13:42):
With your voice. I
don't understand.
Annie Hawthorne (13:43):
I have no idea.
Thanks, Oliver. Get used to
this.
Isaac allen Burns (13:46):
Bursting
through the door is the one
piloting this thing. The lift ison ropes, but you can think of
it as, you know, a sky lift. Hebursts in. I have a quick
question to let you color someof the scene. What does he look
like?
Rowan Collins (14:00):
Well, gee, I
wonder DJ does not see. So what
instead they sense is a verytall person, so I'm gonna say a
giant, like, twice as tall asMay over there and thick as a
brick house and also with ahigh, high voice.
Isaac allen Burns (14:19):
Great. Thank
you.
Rowan Collins (14:20):
You're welcome.
Isaac allen Burns (14:21):
All three of
you or rather two of you see and
one of you hear as this guybursts in wearing a little
uniform that all of the Sky Liftemployees wear. And he looks at
you three and says, Hit thedeck. It's coming in to attack.
He dives onto the floor and yousee an enormous bird burst in
(14:43):
behind him. This thing lookslike an enormous vulture with a
really curved beak and yourealize this is a mountain
vulture.
These things are maybe the skylifts most dangerous predators.
These things will sometimesattack sky lifts. This thing
looks hungry and it eyes thethree of you. What do you do?
Annie Hawthorne (15:02):
I am gonna yell
at the other two, get behind me
and I will just take out my twohanded greatsword and I'll take
up my fighting stance and I'lllook this bird dead in the eyes.
And I'll say, fight with Ana,beast.
Isaac allen Burns (15:15):
You yell at
this thing? You're attempting
to, like, intimidate this thing. You're attempting to, like, big
dog this bird. Go ahead. I'llsay make a strength check for
me.
Annie Hawthorne (15:29):
20. My Can
Joe Diametti (15:31):
I do stuff while
you're thinking about it?
Absolutely. Yeah. So May yellsfor us to get behind her and
Kinsey is like, yeah, I can dothat. And so he he goes behind
May and he kind of sits downcrisscross applesauce, not even
facing facing the completeopposite way.
He has a shield in his lap. It'salways something I feel. And he
(15:55):
pops it open and you realizethat the the shield kind of acts
as like a briefcase. There'slike a hinge. So he opens it up.
Yeah. I know I have somethingfor this somewhere and he's
shifting through papers. No. Notthat one. Where's my feather?
Hang on. And he gets up and he'dlike to go pluck a feather from
(16:16):
this bird.
Isaac allen Burns (16:16):
From the
bird? Incredible. Go ahead and
make a we'll say finesse. Thissounds like a finesse. I'll say
the DC will be lower than itstypical difficulty because as
you walk up to it, you recognizethat there's a
Joe Diametti (16:32):
Oh, wait a minute.
I have wings. You do have wings.
Never mind. I'm gonna sit downand
Rowan Collins (16:35):
say No. That's
funnier. Please do it. Please do
it.
Isaac allen Burns (16:37):
You don't
wanna use your own. Yeah.
Rowan Collins (16:39):
You can't use
your own wings.
Joe Diametti (16:40):
Okay. That's fair.
Okay. So Alright. Presence or
wait.
Fit finesse.
Isaac allen Burns (16:43):
Finesse.
Joe Diametti (16:43):
Plus one. 11 with
fear. Thank you
Isaac allen Burns (16:50):
so much. I'll
So with that fear, I'm just
going to bank that fear for now.And what I'll say is, Kenzie,
you walk up and while thismountain vulture is staring at
May, and May is staring backMhmm. You can tell May is
winning this big dog match. Andas vulture turns to go away, and
(17:14):
you pluck a feather from it.
Joe Diametti (17:15):
Thank you.
Yeah. I like as I
like go around, I kinda like
duck under May's arm as they'rehiding. Yep. He got it. And I,
you know, I kinda pat theunderside of May's arm then I go
and I grab the feather.
Thank you.
Isaac allen Burns (17:27):
As you grab
the feather, I said I would bank
that for you, but I'm changingmy mind. You grab the feather
and now you have one mountainvulture feather. You can go
ahead and add that to yourinventory. Huzzah. And then
return this thing, screams, turns around, and swipes at you.
Annie Hawthorne (17:40):
Oh, no.
Isaac allen Burns (17:43):
Great. Okay.
I rolled a four. This thing is
scared. It kinda turnsreflexively and swipes.
And then with its big wings, like this thing is scared. It
kinda turns reflexively, andthen with its big wings, like,
gives you the back off motion.DJ, is there anything you're
gonna do at this moment?
Rowan Collins (18:01):
Yes. So DJ
feeling this giant thing and
feeling that Bay is gonna wannakill it instead is just gonna,
like, reach out and they take aa different one of their CDs off
of their head and they changethe tracks. So now a different
song is playing as they castSlumber.
Joe Diametti (18:21):
I don't have we
don't have the budget for this,
but in my head, this is justit's a Guardians of the Galaxy
movie. We're just like playing, like, music to I mean,
Isaac allen Burns (18:29):
it's just
Joe Diametti (18:29):
like Yeah.
Isaac allen Burns (18:30):
That's right,
guys. If we get 1,000
subscribers, we'll be able toafford the song Back in Black by
ATDC for the specific No.
Joe Diametti (18:39):
That's the song?
Isaac allen Burns (18:40):
That's the
first one that came to For
Rowan Collins (18:43):
the slumber, I
feel like it would be like a
lullaby.
Isaac allen Burns (18:46):
Cat's Cradle
by Steve Steve.
Joe Diametti (18:49):
What's his name?
Isaac allen Burns (18:50):
What's his
name? Joe Croce? Oh. No. No.
Jim Croce?
Joe Diametti (18:54):
Kat's Cradle?
Isaac allen Burns (18:54):
Kat's Cradle
in the city.
Joe Diametti (18:56):
Oh, okay. Anyway.
I don't know.
Isaac allen Burns (18:58):
We're gonna
get to monetize if we're not
careful.
Rowan Collins (19:00):
Oh, gosh.
Isaac allen Burns (19:00):
What'd you
roll?
Annie Hawthorne (19:04):
I rolled a a
six
Rowan Collins (19:08):
So what is fear.
Isaac allen Burns (19:10):
So and I do
have one quick question because
I'm looking over and I'm seeingoctahedrons that just got rolled
instead of dodecahedrons. So Ijust wanna be Thank you. No
problem. We haven't not playedfor too long.
Rowan Collins (19:26):
Would you would
you it's a crit.
Isaac allen Burns (19:30):
A crit of You
Rowan Collins (19:32):
could A crit of
one.
Joe Diametti (19:33):
A crit of one.
Rowan Collins (19:34):
Which is so
funny.
Isaac allen Burns (19:36):
So what
happens on a slumber? Go ahead
and, Rowan, read out whathappens on a slumber.
Rowan Collins (19:40):
So make a spell
cast roll against a very close
target. So in this case, Ibelieve DJ walks up and just
kinda, like, touches it. On asuggest assess, the targeted
creature falls into a deep sleepuntil they take damage. Or the
GM spells spends fear to awakenthem.
Isaac allen Burns (19:56):
So I think
because you crit, that's really
cool and incredible. You seethat this vulture, scared,
worried, it sees a fight that itactually didn't want. Mhmm. And
as it turns to fly away, itsuddenly falls asleep and it
careens over the side of the skylift and falls down to the
cliffs below. Thank you for thatFoley.
(20:19):
That's perfect.
Joe Diametti (20:19):
Yeah. While all
that was happening, Kinsey was
just back to his shield and hispaperwork.
Oh, here it is.
Yes. I believe that we could
have the bird sign this. Right?
And he turns
around and the bird's not there
anymore.
Rowan Collins (20:32):
We took care of
it.
Joe Diametti (20:33):
But I we talked
about this. I I need signatures.
Rowan Collins (20:41):
You've gotta be
quicker than that.
Annie Hawthorne (20:44):
You both are
very odd.
Isaac allen Burns (20:48):
Kinsey, how
many signatures do you have so
far?
Annie Hawthorne (20:52):
Two. Is one of
them yours?
Joe Diametti (20:57):
Nope. One.
Isaac allen Burns (20:59):
Kinsey's
learning how to do it. In any
case, after that bit ofexcitement, the sky lift comes
to a close. The man that hadjust run-in with his head
covered has not moved. He'sstill cowering in the he's still
cowering in the corner.
Annie Hawthorne (21:15):
Excuse me. If
you're not Yes. Driving this
thing, who is?
Oh, it's pretty
automatic. I don't actually have
to drive it. I just sort of sitat the front, and sometimes I
hit the levers and buttons andsay if in case something happens
like a bird attack.
I see. Well,
the the bird is gone.
Joe Diametti (21:32):
Excuse me, sir.
Annie Hawthorne (21:33):
Can we
continue?
Oh, yeah. I
mean, it's gonna go automatic.
Yes?
Joe Diametti (21:36):
I I help him up.
Isaac allen Burns (21:37):
Oh, thank
you. You're very kind, young
man.
Joe Diametti (21:40):
Thank you. You
don't need to be afraid. I'm so
well, bird you're right. Allthings are right as long as you
accept splendor. Oh, splendor.
Are you familiar with the godSplendor?
Annie Hawthorne (21:50):
I'm more of a
valor person myself, but I have
heard of Splendor.
Isaac allen Burns (21:53):
Fucking
valor? Woah, dude.
Annie Hawthorne (21:57):
Woah, that's a
strong energy.
Joe Diametti (21:59):
Yeah. I'm willing.
I'm willing to let that go.
Okay. For one signature righthere.
Annie Hawthorne (22:04):
Oh, what do I
get for siding?
Joe Diametti (22:07):
Eternal salvation.
Annie Hawthorne (22:09):
Oh, eternal
salvation. I mean
Joe Diametti (22:10):
Don't read the
fine print. It's really not
worth looking into. So just asignature and we can get the
lift going and you'll feelbetter.
Annie Hawthorne (22:16):
Why should I
choose?
Isaac allen Burns (22:17):
So
Annie Hawthorne (22:18):
Why should I
choose splendor over valor?
Joe Diametti (22:21):
Splendor? Yeah.
Because he's the God of the sun,
the god of light. For withinhim, all things are better. And
he's my dad.
Woah. Would you like to sign me?
Annie Hawthorne (22:35):
Wait. He's your
dad? That's the truth thing
you're saying to me right now?
Joe Diametti (22:38):
Guess that's a
truth thing. Why would I lie
about that?
Isaac allen Burns (22:40):
Make a
presence check for me, Kinsey.
Okay.
Joe Diametti (22:45):
Presence is minus
one.
Isaac allen Burns (22:47):
What?
Joe Diametti (22:47):
This guy Oh. This
kid is not very
Isaac allen Burns (22:50):
Oh, no.
Rowan Collins (22:52):
Can DJ give
advantage by, like, doing a
little illusions bell behindKinsey to, like, make Kinsey
shine?
Isaac allen Burns (23:04):
Do you have
Rowan Collins (23:05):
I have illusion.
Isaac allen Burns (23:06):
You have
illusion?
Rowan Collins (23:07):
I do have a
temporary I have a spell that
says illusion. I have to make aspell cast roll. On a success, I
create a temporary visualillusion no longer larger than
you within close range that willlast for as long as you look at
it.
Isaac allen Burns (23:21):
Incredible.
Yeah. We'll say you get
advantage for it. Sure.
Rowan Collins (23:25):
A different CD.
So DJ takes that one off, puts a
different one on. This one canbe a get packed to black.
Awesome. That's another crit.
The heck?
Joe Diametti (23:35):
You're splendid. A
Isaac allen Burns (23:38):
bunch of
light just poofs behind you and
this guy, his eyes light up andhe says,
Annie Hawthorne (23:44):
wow. Well,
that's better than just sort
Isaac allen Burns (23:47):
of not doing
fun things like
Annie Hawthorne (23:49):
Valor tells me
to do.
Isaac allen Burns (23:51):
Oh, yeah.
What'd you roll?
Joe Diametti (23:52):
With my advantage,
it's 13 with hope.
Isaac allen Burns (23:54):
13 with hope.
Okay. He looks at you and his
eyes light up and he says,
Annie Hawthorne (24:00):
hey, that's
actually great. Valor is really
all about like, selfresponsibility and self
discipline. So like, you know, Iactually haven't eaten in a few
days because I'm fasting.
Joe Diametti (24:09):
I'm not supposed
to tell anybody. What do
Annie Hawthorne (24:12):
mean if I join
Splendor, I don't have to be so
self disciplined?
Joe Diametti (24:16):
I mean, with
Splendor, you can be who you're
meant to be, like me.
And he dips the
pen in some ink in his little
shield thing and just hands itto him for the signature. Wow.
Okay. Yeah. That's great.
He takes and signs. Yeah. Kinseylooks over at May.
(24:36):
Wow. My third
signature. Mhmm.
Annie Hawthorne (24:42):
I see.
Isaac allen Burns (24:42):
You see he's
you see this guy's really happy,
and he's like,
Annie Hawthorne (24:45):
this is great.
This means I can jerk off again.
Oh, this is awesome.
Oh, man. That's
way too much information. Yeah.
High five.
Isaac allen Burns (24:51):
Wait. Other
hand. He high five he goes to
high five you, and then
Joe Diametti (24:53):
he high fives you.
Other hand.
Annie Hawthorne (24:55):
You know what?
I'll I'll be outside. I'm gonna
go watch the levers and buttons.
Isaac allen Burns (24:59):
You step
outside and realize that you
have arrived at the station.
Annie Hawthorne (25:02):
Oh, oh, we're
here. Yeah.
Isaac allen Burns (25:04):
He hasn't
been piloting it, so he hasn't
told you all that you'vearrived, but you have officially
arrived.
Annie Hawthorne (25:07):
Oh, we're here.
So I'm gonna go. You guys catch
up.
Joe Diametti (25:10):
Yeah. I click my
little shield back. I consider
this a very successful ride.Don't you, DJ?
Rowan Collins (25:17):
I we do. We
consider this a very successful
ride. You've got a signature, and we have an audience.
Isaac allen Burns (25:27):
Indeed, you
do. You step out off of the sky
lift.
Joe Diametti (25:32):
Annie realizing
that she accidentally picked the
only normal character.
Isaac allen Burns (25:38):
You know, for
the first time, Annie gets to
play the straight man. Yeah.That
Rowan Collins (25:55):
sounds about
right.
Isaac allen Burns (25:56):
Stepping out
onto the streets of Highcliff,
you find a bustling city. Thecliffs don't just end at the
start of this city. No. Theycontinue all across. You look up
into the sky and what looks likeskyscrapers built up higher,
actually rooms built into thesides of the cliffs.
People walk to and fro, many ofthem soot stained and covered in
(26:19):
dust from the mines. However, atthe same time, you also can feel
a combination of excitement andtension. For you see, while
there are signs and florals andother bits of merriment to
suggest the spring solstice, which is today, you can also
sense the queen's hand on thisplace. You see guards dressed in
(26:45):
the traditional Voldane armor, stationed at various checkpoints
within the city. Signs warningof anyone seeing any kind of
rebel activity to report itimmediately to the local guard.
It's a mix of emotion. But thethree of you are here on the
streets. You've discussedbeforehand, and there's a tavern
(27:07):
on the other side of town thatall of you believe you should
have rooms at. And while you areheading there, can I just have
the three of you roll a flat d12 for me? 6.
6. 2. 2. 9. May.
(27:28):
Nice. Your senses are stillsharp. It's been a you have been
away from your clan for a while, but that does not mean that your
senses have deadened at all.Though the city is bustling and
large, your eyes and ears arestill trained on anything out of
place, anything that could beconsidered a threat, which is
why when you hear a scuffle inthe alleyway, a grunt, a thud,
(27:52):
and the sounds of footstepsquickly running through the
muddy alleys between some ofthese buildings. Your hackles
are raised.
To your left, just in thealleyway up ahead, you heard
these noises.
Annie Hawthorne (28:07):
I'm gonna stop
and kinda hold my arms out to
hold the others back. I'm gonnasay, eyes up. Oh, sorry, TJ.
It's not a problem.
Rowan Collins (28:16):
What is going on,
May?
Annie Hawthorne (28:19):
Looks like a
bit of a scuffle over there. Do
you think we should check itout?
Joe Diametti (28:23):
Do we think they
could be potential signers?
Annie Hawthorne (28:26):
Well, I think
anyone could be a potential
signer.
Joe Diametti (28:29):
You, May?
Annie Hawthorne (28:30):
Maybe not me. I
don't sign anything without
having my lawyer look over it,and I don't have a lawyer. So
anyway.
Isaac allen Burns (28:36):
Three of you
head into the alley. Mae, as you
turn the corner, your trainedeyes very clearly see what has
occurred. You see in the middleof the alleyway, a large giant
dark skin, a beard that's verywell kept together, a head as
bald as the day he was born, andreally nice clothing that is
currently stained with a lot ofblood. He is lying dead on the
(28:59):
ground.
Joe Diametti (29:00):
Excuse me, sir.
Oh. Would you like
Annie Hawthorne (29:02):
to I I think
he's passed. But if we can find
who did this to him, perhapsthey'll sign.
Joe Diametti (29:11):
Okay.
Rowan Collins (29:12):
We can help with
that. And DJ is going to waddle
up Touch the corpse that haddied recently. I can mark a
dress to extract one memoryrelated to a specific emotion or
sensation. I'm gonna choosefear.
Isaac allen Burns (29:27):
Oh, fear.
Okay. DJ, describe what the
spell looks like as you touchit. What hap what do what do
Kinsey and May see?
Rowan Collins (29:35):
So this is
actually a fungal ancestry
trait. So what happens, Iassume, is DJ has these little,
like, mycelia kind of fingers. So as soon as they touch this
corpse, lichenous veins shootinto the corpse and kind of
(29:57):
almost like thrum through it asif it's searching for
information, some sort of likejacking into the body, and then
it'll pulse a certain like blueand green color, blue and yellow
and green. And then, like, almost as if absorbing the
information, it pulses back upthrough DJ.
Annie Hawthorne (30:16):
That never gets
less disturbing.
Isaac allen Burns (30:18):
DJ, you your
feelings spanned, and you're
running. You're running behindthe buildings. You have to warn
your brother. Holding in yourhand is a box that seems to be
warm in your hands. You can feelheat coming from it.
Not real heat, but the heat ofimportance as you hold it. It is
(30:40):
so important that you do notlose this. You are weaving
through alleyways to not be seenby anybody because you have to
warn your brother. If you don'twarn him, something horrific
will happen. You have to getthere.
If you die, something horrificwill happen. You hear suddenly a
(31:00):
snap. You hear a wet noise aswet footsteps approach you, and
suddenly your vision ends.
Rowan Collins (31:09):
We have to warn
our brother. We have to warn our
brother, DJ says coming out ofit. They shake their little head
and go, this this person wastrying to warn their brother. Do
we see a box? Look down a box.
Isaac allen Burns (31:28):
You look down
at the body, and sure enough,
you see a bulge in their leftcoat pocket.
Rowan Collins (31:34):
We fiddle through
and, like, grab the bulge.
Isaac allen Burns (31:39):
You grab the
dead man's bulge and you pull
out you pull out of this pocketa box that almost seems to defy
space as you hold it. Like, itwas so small in the pocket, but
now that you've pulled it out,it's almost expanded out. And
the box's latch has been brokenoff.
Rowan Collins (31:58):
Would either one
of you be able to tell me what
this is? Tell us what this is.We cannot quite perceive what it
looks like, only what it feelslike, which is warm. We feel
warmth from it and unlockednessfrom it and danger from it.
Joe Diametti (32:21):
Can I take a shot,
DJ?
Rowan Collins (32:26):
We don't see why
not.
Joe Diametti (32:29):
Yeah. And I I I
take it.
Isaac allen Burns (32:31):
You take the
box. It's a real nice box. It's
kinda got some heft to it. It'slike a nice golden box.
Joe Diametti (32:35):
I like this box. I
would put it in a purse if I had
one.
Rowan Collins (32:41):
We will get you a
purse at some point.
Joe Diametti (32:44):
Can I like, do I
know anything about this box?
It's just
Isaac allen Burns (32:47):
a nice box.
It's unlocked too.
Joe Diametti (32:51):
Look at Matt. I
look
Annie Hawthorne (32:51):
at me. I take
the
Isaac allen Burns (32:52):
box and I
open it. You open the box, Mae.
You you see that this box isunfortunately empty. There is a
folded piece of paper kindastuck inside of it though.
Annie Hawthorne (33:06):
Take it out.
Isaac allen Burns (33:07):
You take it
out. As you open it, you see the
words. Top secret, Oryk Mantle.Powerful relic from before the
Age of Gods. Wear this whenspeaking with leaders on both
sides.
Will help command authority andcan deescalate situation. Queen
wants to avoid all out war. Ifthe wrong people get their hands
(33:27):
on this, deep trouble. This isthe only one in existence. Treat
with great care.
Also at the bottom, says, do notlet any clergy know you have
this.
Rowan Collins (33:37):
What is it?
Joe Diametti (33:37):
What does it say?
Rowan Collins (33:38):
It sounds like
paper.
Joe Diametti (33:40):
Could you repeat
that back word for
Isaac allen Burns (33:42):
word?
Verbatim?
Rowan Collins (33:44):
It sounds like
paper.
Joe Diametti (33:46):
Please, Mae.
Annie Hawthorne (33:47):
I think we have
trouble if this is to be
believed. Also, would youidentify yourself as clergy?
Joe Diametti (33:56):
Me?
Annie Hawthorne (33:56):
Yes. You.
Joe Diametti (33:58):
No. No. Maybe a
Excellent. Okay. Maybe a
demigod?
Maybe chosen? I see. Maybehumble.
Annie Hawthorne (34:10):
Probably asked
that one for sure. Anyway, it
appears that within this box wassome kind of a relic, which is
no longer present. And I feel asense of danger. I mean, since
it's missing.
Rowan Collins (34:30):
We also feel
danger. We felt danger when we
died.
Joe Diametti (34:34):
I feel You wait.
You died?
Rowan Collins (34:37):
Yes. When we
died, they point to the corpse.
Annie Hawthorne (34:42):
Oh. Oh.
Goodness gracious.
Joe Diametti (34:44):
I feel I feel
hungry. Should we get a bite to
eat?
Annie Hawthorne (34:55):
I suppose. I I
mean, I don't see why not. This
is not our mission. We
Isaac allen Burns (35:02):
yeah. The
tavern's just a couple streets
away. You can go to the tavern, get some grub, decide what you
wanna do next.
Rowan Collins (35:12):
Oh, okay.
Isaac allen Burns (35:13):
Yeah. Go to
the tavern. Why not?
Rowan Collins (35:15):
We we felt lots
of fear when we thought this
might have killed us. We thinkin memory, in memoriam of our
death, we should go at leasttell our brother.
Annie Hawthorne (35:32):
Do you know
that brother?
Rowan Collins (35:34):
Our brother is
the Burgermeister.
Isaac allen Burns (35:38):
Wow. Okay.
Burger?
Rowan Collins (35:40):
Burgermeister.
Annie Hawthorne (35:44):
Is there a
trail?
Isaac allen Burns (35:48):
Make an
instinct role for me, Ney.
Joe Diametti (35:52):
I'm worried for
Isaac. I've never seen him just
This is a look of like, what aremy kids doing? This is really
great. I'm just enjoying
Isaac allen Burns (36:00):
the ride. I'm
just watching it. I'm smiling.
Annie Hawthorne (36:02):
It's an 11 with
fear.
Isaac allen Burns (36:05):
An 11 with
failure. An 11 the only the only
information that you'll be ableto perceive from this is that
there are a handful offootprints around here. There
are giant footprints, there areribbit footprints, there are
Qatari footprints, and there aredwarven footprints. They are all
(36:27):
over the place. You don't knowwho's whose or where they went,
but those are what you see.
That's all the information youcan really perceive from them.
Annie Hawthorne (36:35):
I think I can
say one thing with absolute
certainty whoever killed him hadno honor.
Rowan Collins (36:40):
We think it might
be a giant. We think we can ask
around town Burgermeister seemslike an important job. We can
ask and tell of the death ofthis brother. We think.
Isaac allen Burns (36:55):
You hear a
voice behind the three of you as
you're standing over this deadbody. You hear a gasp and you
hear a woman go, By the nine, what happened here? You turn
around and you see a womandressed in the vestments of the
clergy. You recognize this as asister of the Ennian church.
(37:15):
She's looking at the three ofyou
Joe Diametti (37:17):
What church?
Isaac allen Burns (37:18):
Standing over
a dead body.
Joe Diametti (37:19):
Does that praise?
Or do I need to ask?
Isaac allen Burns (37:24):
Well, you
know the Ennian church really
preaches on and teachesteachings from all nine of the
gods. Most of the clergy of thechurch will really not ascribe
normally to one god or theother. They tend to be all
across the board.
Joe Diametti (37:39):
Hello, sister.
Isaac allen Burns (37:41):
Hi. Would
anyone of you care to explain
why you're standing over a deadbody?
Joe Diametti (37:47):
Oh, he was already
here.
Rowan Collins (37:50):
We heard
Isaac allen Burns (37:51):
That's that's
what they all say.
Rowan Collins (37:53):
We heard a
scuffle. We found this man. We
think this man was killed by agiant.
Joe Diametti (38:01):
Have you already
sworn loyalty to one god? Are
you still flip flopping aroundall nine? Excuse me? Like a god
whore.
Annie Hawthorne (38:10):
I'm gonna slip
that sheet of paper that says
don't let the clergy get thisinto my pocket.
Isaac allen Burns (38:15):
Alright,
young man. I don't like your
telling.
Joe Diametti (38:18):
I have some
paperwork,
and I got a clip
of my shield.
Isaac allen Burns (38:24):
Oh, dear.
Rowan Collins (38:25):
I would like to
realizing that this is going on,
I believe that DJ is going tocast slumber on. Slumber on Not
on the sister? No.
Joe Diametti (38:37):
Okay.
Rowan Collins (38:38):
What? On you.
Isaac allen Burns (38:40):
Uh-oh.
Alright.
Joe Diametti (38:42):
Kinsey's getting
put in Tyrone.
Isaac allen Burns (38:43):
Kinsey's
getting put in Kinsey's So in
this case, so normally when youI got Hey, it's me, your GM
Isaac Allenbyrze, here to talkto you today about PvP. In this
case, we typically don't havethis problem, but in this
specific case, we have todetermine a ruling. Because
(39:04):
normally, when a creature does aspell casting role, the
difficulty that they're tryingto beat is the difficulty on the
monster's or the creature's statblock. In this case, Kinsey
doesn't have a difficulty. SoI'm gonna make a ruling here.
Off the cuff, this does not thisdoes not reflect anything on the
(39:27):
new rules. We're just kindagoing with it. Because this is a
slumber, I'm gonna say thissounds almost the equivalent of
like a physical effect trying toput you down. It also could be a
mental one. So I'll let youdecide, Kinsey.
You may either roll strength oryou may roll instincts.
Joe Diametti (39:46):
Love that for me.
My strength is plus two, so
Isaac allen Burns (39:49):
Okay. So roll
a strength check and we'll see
if it beats whatever this rolefrom DJ is about to be. What'd
we roll, DJ?
Rowan Collins (39:59):
Another crit.
Isaac allen Burns (40:00):
Okay. She's
us. Well, what's your roll,
Kinsey?
Joe Diametti (40:05):
I rolled I rolled
a 10. You rolled a 10? Fear.
Isaac allen Burns (40:09):
Fear. You
know what? You know what gang?
You know what listeners at home? You know what your GM is gonna
do?
Your GM's gonna take that fearbecause we take those. And Yeah.
Kinsey, what happens to you?
Joe Diametti (40:20):
Yeah. So he he
goes down to like open up the
briefcase and he's like,
I I know I have it
here somewhere.
And he just falls
right right over. Like but like
like that cartoon, like, he'slike like his butt's in the air
and he's just like faced a facekind of sideways into the
ground.
Rowan Collins (40:36):
DJ, like, hops up
onto Kinsey's butt and goes, we
are sorry, sister. He needs hisnap.
Annie Hawthorne (40:45):
Yes. I
apologize for my acquaintances.
They're quite abnormal.
Rowan Collins (40:49):
Would you happen
to know where the Burgermeister
is?
Isaac allen Burns (40:53):
You wanna
know where the the Burgermeister
is?
Annie Hawthorne (40:56):
The
Burgermeister Burger. Creepy as
they seem. I promise.
Isaac allen Burns (41:00):
Alright. You
seem reasonable. I'm gonna
direct my conversation towardsyou. What's your name?
Annie Hawthorne (41:04):
My name is May.
What's your name?
Isaac allen Burns (41:06):
Pleasure to
meet you. My name is sister
Alba. I am the sister ofHighcliffe Eri,
Annie Hawthorne (41:13):
the charge of
the Highcliffe.
Isaac allen Burns (41:15):
Yes. The high
priestess of Highcliffe.
Annie Hawthorne (41:19):
Most pleasure
to meet your acquaintance.
Isaac allen Burns (41:21):
Pleasure to
make yours as well. I was doing
my morning rounds, tending tothose who seemed in need, and I
couldn't happen to notice threeindividuals standing over a dead
body, which somewhat has meconcerned. But you're asking of
the Burgermeister, He wouldprobably be at town hall right
now. It is a bit of the middleof the day. He'd be in his
office.
Rowan Collins (41:41):
We thank you for
this information.
Isaac allen Burns (41:43):
Why do you
need to see the Bergamizer?
Rowan Collins (41:45):
We have echoes of
when someone dies, and we'll
have a compel compulsion tofulfill their latest wish. This
man's brother was theBurgermeister. We want to give
him his news.
Isaac allen Burns (42:02):
She looks
really surprised when you say
that and she runs past you overto the body and you can hear her
curse under her breath. And shelooks up at the three of you and
says, do you have any idea whatthe message was? Do have any
idea what he was trying to say?
Annie Hawthorne (42:18):
No idea at all,
unfortunately.
Isaac allen Burns (42:22):
By the nine.
This is
Rowan Collins (42:23):
We only have
feeling. That is all.
Isaac allen Burns (42:29):
Alright.
Well, let me tell you this is
really bad. Clearly, somethingis up. War makes people do awful
things. I will take care of him.
I will lay him to rest. I'msimply going to have to trust
you both in terms of the urgencyright now and due to the
narrative. So your friend there, watch out for him. Think he's in
(42:52):
a bad I think he might be in afundamentalist sect of splendor.
The two of you go deliver themessage to the Burgermizer,
watch out for his new aid.
That's all I'll say. I can't saymuch more. There are too many
ears about. And you see that sheof waves you and dismisses you,
and you see begins tending tothe body.
Rowan Collins (43:12):
DJ will waddle
up, put a little hand on her and
say, we thank you for yourassistance.
Isaac allen Burns (43:18):
Yes. Of
course. Thank you. Thank you.
Rowan Collins (43:20):
Understand. They,
again, with their painted face,
just like looks very blankly ather.
Isaac allen Burns (43:26):
She doesn't
really know what to do, so she
kinda pats you lightly on thehead.
Rowan Collins (43:29):
Lee, being pat,
feel dismissed. And DJ walks
over to Kinsey and slaps him onthe butt, and then you should
wake up.
Isaac allen Burns (43:37):
Go, Splendor.
I
Annie Hawthorne (43:40):
thought
Splendor was your father. I'm
quite confused.
Joe Diametti (43:45):
I what happened?
Rowan Collins (43:47):
You fell into a
deep slumber. And
Joe Diametti (43:51):
I have been tired.
Rowan Collins (43:53):
You yes. You
understand your hunger and sleep
must be very connected.
Joe Diametti (43:58):
You might be
right.
Rowan Collins (44:00):
We hope, in fact,
that we should get a hot dog or
something along the way so thatyou do not fall asleep again.
Joe Diametti (44:08):
Maybe a pizza? And
a purse. With mushrooms?
Rowan Collins (44:14):
Yes. Okay.
Isaac allen Burns (44:16):
Yeah. To the
Tavern you go. They sell pizza
with mushrooms at the tavern.
Rowan Collins (44:21):
But I don't like
to go. We're we're getting it to
go. I was thinking more alongthe lines of, like, you know how
those little, like, outside of,like, buildings, they have those
little halal stations that theysell, like, pigs and stuff.
Isaac allen Burns (44:34):
Looking for
sparrows?
Annie Hawthorne (44:35):
Yeah.
Isaac allen Burns (44:35):
Yeah. There's
a sparrows outside. There's a
giant
Rowan Collins (44:38):
what I was
thinking.
Isaac allen Burns (44:39):
He's got,
like, a big New York accent. He
gives you a hot dog.
Annie Hawthorne (44:42):
A giant. Does
this giant have a knife by
chance?
Isaac allen Burns (44:45):
He has a
knife that's like a serving
knife.
Rowan Collins (44:48):
Wait a second.
Annie Hawthorne (44:50):
Excuse me. Have
you been into any alleys
recently?
Isaac allen Burns (44:53):
I'm sorry?
Annie Hawthorne (44:54):
Have you have
you entered any You
Isaac allen Burns (44:56):
talking to
me?
Annie Hawthorne (44:57):
Allies
recently, alleys.
Isaac allen Burns (44:59):
I've been in
alleys.
Annie Hawthorne (45:02):
Were you in an
alley with that knife not ten
minutes ago?
Isaac allen Burns (45:06):
No. I've been
here. I've been here all day.
Annie Hawthorne (45:08):
Who can vouch
for that?
Isaac allen Burns (45:11):
I had
customers all day getting my hot
dogs. Why don't you try it foryourself? Get a hot dog. You're
gonna love it.
Annie Hawthorne (45:21):
What, pray
tell, is a hot dog?
Isaac allen Burns (45:23):
I'm so happy
ass. A hot dog, you ever heard
of a sausage?
Annie Hawthorne (45:28):
A sausage. No.
Isaac allen Burns (45:31):
Yeah.
Sausage.
Annie Hawthorne (45:32):
I can't say
I've ever heard of a sausage
now.
Isaac allen Burns (45:34):
Alright.
Well, you ever heard of a cow or
a pig?
Annie Hawthorne (45:37):
Yes. I've heard
of cows and pigs. Yes.
Isaac allen Burns (45:39):
Alright. You
take a pig. You squish it up,
Joe Diametti (45:42):
and
Isaac allen Burns (45:42):
you shove it
into a casing. And then you put
it on a bun, add some onions, some ketchup. You guys sell a
hot dog.
Annie Hawthorne (45:55):
I see.
Isaac allen Burns (45:56):
You want the
hot dog or not?
Annie Hawthorne (45:57):
Any of those.
Isaac allen Burns (45:58):
It's a
handful of gold per.
Annie Hawthorne (46:00):
A a handful of
gold.
Isaac allen Burns (46:02):
That's right.
A handful of gold. That's right.

more importance is the town hallthat's in front of you, which is
built into the cliffside.
