Isaac Allen Burns (00:32):
Hey,
everybody. It's your GM, Isaac
Allen Burns here on a not sogreat mic editing this podcast.
Just wanted to let y'all knowthat the DodoBorne crew is going
to Gen Con this year, 2025, endof July, into August. We'll be
there. I'll be running a coupletables, and if you come to
those, you might be able to playwith either Joe, Rowan, or
(00:56):
Annie, and even myself.
So keep a lookout for that. Seeyou at Gen Con. Okay. On with
the episode. Yeah.
Whenever you're ready. We canrecord whenever you want, Joe.
Joe Diametti (01:06):
We are recording.
Isaac Allen Burns (01:07):
Oh, hit that.
Hit that. Hit that. Play that.
Play it again, Sam.
Oh, shit.
Joe Diametti (02:20):
We need to get
back to business.
Rowan Collins (02:22):
Right.
Joe Diametti (02:22):
What is going on
with the staff And what about
Scarlet's great grandfather?
Rowan Collins (02:28):
Okay. So I went
down there, and he was chained
up with cold chains onto theground looking emaciated, bloody
Joe Diametti (02:40):
em pan sheeted.
Rowan Collins (02:41):
He looked like a
skeleton but with, like, skin
still on him. Like, he hadn'teaten, like, in a long time. He
had, like, mucus and blood cakedall over him. Like like, the
staff was literally like
Joe Diametti (02:53):
Why didn't you
help him?
Rowan Collins (02:54):
I tried. He
wouldn't let me near me. He
wanted me to either kill him orbe his replacement. I tried to
talk to him about Scarlet. Itried to feed him and it turned
to ash in his mouth.
And then as soon as, like, Istarted trying to talk to him,
he started screaming. I knew, like, it was something was going
to get happen, so I tried tohelp him more.
Joe Diametti (03:14):
So why was the
staff down there?
Annie Hawthorne (03:16):
I don't know. I
don't think we have the answer
to that yet.
Rowan Collins (03:19):
He said that this
was keeping the town prosperous.
I think the staff is whatthey've been using to give us
good, like, soil and properprosperous farms and apples and
turtles.
Joe Diametti (03:33):
Wait. Woah. And we
took it out?
Isaac Allen Burns (03:41):
Crank, we
were
Rowan Collins (03:42):
I don't know. I
don't know. It's a it's a
theory.
Joe Diametti (03:46):
Why would if that
thing is controlling the apples
and the trees and the making ourtown prosperous, Craig, we need
those recommendations. Whatabout Polaris?
Rowan Collins (03:57):
It literally was
draining the life of a thousand
year old.
Annie Hawthorne (04:02):
I don't think
it's a good thing that this was
down there. I think we shouldtake it back to where it
belongs.
Rowan Collins (04:10):
I think I I think
it was draining you.
Joe Diametti (04:16):
I wondered was
that recommendation.
Annie Hawthorne (04:19):
When I hold
this stuff, do I feel anything
from it? Do I feel like it'sdraining my life force?
Isaac Allen Burns (04:25):
There is a
small warmth that comes from
this staff, Frank. And holdingit feels no different than
holding any other staff, but younotice that as you look at it
and when your thoughts go to it,they linger.
Annie Hawthorne (04:42):
Is there enough
of my cape to just wrap it
around the staff and make itlook kinda mundane? You
Isaac Allen Burns (04:49):
know, I think
your cape is pretty long and
frayed. So it wouldn't beperfect, but you can definitely
wrap it around and kind of coverit mostly. Someone don't have to
be looking for it to notice it,I think.
Annie Hawthorne (04:59):
I'll wrap it
around and try to make it look
as normal as possible. And I'lljust keep it with me.
Isaac Allen Burns (05:04):
Crank wraps a
cloth around it and, like, as
Crank is holding it, Crank iskinda there's a feeling that
bubbles up inside of Crank ofkind of sadness that Crank isn't
able to just touch the staffdirectly.
Joe Diametti (05:18):
You alright?
Annie Hawthorne (05:20):
Yes. I'm
protecting the staff. Yeah. I'll
keep it with me. And if anyonetries to take it, I will punch
them.
Rowan Collins (05:29):
I I think I think
this is really bad, Kathy. I I
don't know what to do with it.If this has been I don't know if
it's if if they would justrequire more sacrifices. Like,
what if what if instead of hewhat if instead of him, they
(05:52):
asked for somebody else?
Annie Hawthorne (05:54):
Yeah. What if
Scarlet had to be his
replacement?
Joe Diametti (05:57):
But she wasn't the
Annie Hawthorne (05:59):
How do you
know? We don't know who his
replacement was. How would youfeel if Scarlet was chained down
there with this thing and wasjust wasting away for centuries?
Joe Diametti (06:08):
I would never let
that happen.
Annie Hawthorne (06:10):
So you would
let it to happen to someone
else?
Rowan Collins (06:13):
You wanted it to
be. I I don't Pistachio looks
away and goes, I don't know if Itrust the gnome guy, but I don't
know what to do. And, Kapi, you've been through so many more
than these, like, I'm scared. What should we do?
Joe Diametti (06:35):
Oh, Yeah. Yes.
Having been through
Isaac Allen Burns (06:44):
for
Rowan Collins (06:45):
What I'm worried
about is the youth like you said
that there was a lot of peopletrying to mess up the Apple
Festival including, you know, our guy that Ash like, what if
Ash found this? Right? It mightbe better in our hands right
now.
Joe Diametti (07:04):
No. You're right.
And Kapi is definitely starting
to think about how to not letthis mess up his recommendation.
Isaac Allen Burns (07:14):
So
Joe Diametti (07:16):
he's a little
conflicted because while it
feels like maybe a much biggerissue, He's being very selfish.
Yeah. Pistachio, I you knowwhat? I like your initiative.
Our job is to protect this andkeep it somewhere within the
vicinity of the town.
If the town is being powered bythis, maybe this is what's in
(07:41):
danger and we have to protectthe town through the Apple
Festival. Right, Crank?
Annie Hawthorne (07:49):
Right.
Joe Diametti (07:51):
Right.
Annie Hawthorne (07:52):
Protecting the
staff is protecting the town.
Joe Diametti (07:54):
Exactly.
Rowan Collins (07:55):
Right. Right.
Joe Diametti (07:57):
K. So we're
decided.
Annie Hawthorne (08:01):
We protect the
staff.
Joe Diametti (08:03):
Where are we
going? Where do you go?
Annie Hawthorne (08:06):
Guest room.
Joe Diametti (08:08):
So our options are
the adventures guild.
Rowan Collins (08:10):
Mhmm.
Annie Hawthorne (08:12):
Timothy's
basement.
Joe Diametti (08:13):
Timothy's
basement. Got it.
Annie Hawthorne (08:15):
I I don't know
if we need to have this around
other people, and I'm, like, trying to hide the staff with my
cloak if I can.
Rowan Collins (08:21):
I've got one
idea. There was a place when I
was younger and I couldn't dofield work that I would go hide
out at home. I don't thinkanybody else knows about it. We
could go there.
Annie Hawthorne (08:35):
Well, let's go
there. Okay.
Rowan Collins (08:38):
I'll I'll lead
the way. Thank you, Craig. Thank
you for protecting me.
Annie Hawthorne (08:44):
I'll always
protect you. You're my friend.
Rowan Collins (08:47):
You're my best
friend too.
Isaac Allen Burns (08:50):
Very good.
The three of you walk out of
town towards a secret place thatonly Pistachio knows, allegedly.
Pistachio, where do you go?Describe.
Annie Hawthorne (09:00):
So because the
Droop family farmer is on the
edge of town,
Rowan Collins (09:03):
there is, like, a
small portion of it that there
exists, like, a shed that theybasically keep, like, the extra
tools when they're on that partof the farm in case something
ever happens, like their hoseor, like, whatever breaks and
they can't get back to the other
Joe Diametti (09:19):
side. Break.
Rowan Collins (09:19):
Yeah. When your
hose and shovels and all those
things break, it's like theextra, like, part in the back of
their farm where, like, all
Annie Hawthorne (09:27):
the extra
equipment is just so they don't
have to lug it all the way back.
Joe Diametti (09:30):
Hose in line.
Rowan Collins (09:31):
Exactly. Out of
that, like,
Annie Hawthorne (09:34):
on the side
you're done with them
Rowan Collins (09:36):
at night. Like,
out of that, like, on the side,
there's, like, a little tiny, like, thing where, like
done. I'm done.
Isaac Allen Burns (09:46):
Kathy's just
saying this under his brain as
he's walking because he's kindof uncomfortable.
Rowan Collins (09:50):
Pistachio,
basically, there was, like,
like, a piece of wood that hadfallen on the ground next to it.
And then there's a little, like, tiny like, if you lift it up,
there's a little tiny, like, underground piece where, like,
the seeds might have been keptfor storage. And as Pistachio
lifts up that piece, it says, like, Pistachio secret hideout,
(10:11):
nobody no no one allowed, andthen an angry little, like,
cartoon face. And they lift itup and they, like, go in and you
see, like, there's a little bitof, like, there's blankets and
pillows and, like, littlestuffed animals all around. And
Joe Diametti (10:26):
Does Crank fit in
here?
Rowan Collins (10:27):
Yes. It's like a
like a wine cellar, but but
fitted for, like, a littlepistachio.
Annie Hawthorne (10:36):
It's cozy in
here.
Rowan Collins (10:39):
Yeah. I spent a
lot of time in here. Took me a
lot of lot of time luggingpillows back and forth.
Joe Diametti (10:46):
Alright. It's
late. Let's get some sleep. We
have one day till the AppleFestival. We need to prepare
defenses.
Rowan Collins (10:53):
Uh-huh.
Joe Diametti (10:54):
The mayor has
entrusted us in protecting this
festival.
Rowan Collins (10:58):
Uh-huh.
Joe Diametti (10:58):
For everybody
here.
Rowan Collins (11:00):
Uh-huh.
Joe Diametti (11:00):
For Scarlet. Mhmm.
For your mom. Mhmm. For your
family.
Rowan Collins (11:08):
Yeah. All of my
family. Yeah. And
Joe Diametti (11:11):
for our
recommendations, Polaris?
Annie Hawthorne (11:14):
Yes.
Joe Diametti (11:15):
Polaris? Polaris?
We're going to Polaris.
Isaac Allen Burns (11:17):
All we
Joe Diametti (11:18):
have to do is make
sure this Apple Festival is
smooth and Cyrus can
Isaac Allen Burns (11:22):
suck it.
Rowan Collins (11:23):
Okay. Suck what,
Kathy?
Joe Diametti (11:27):
Sleep, Pistachio.
I
Rowan Collins (11:30):
don't okay.
Joe Diametti (11:31):
Power down, Crank.
Rowan Collins (11:33):
Will you keep
watch, Kathy?
Joe Diametti (11:35):
What? We're in a
hole.
Annie Hawthorne (11:38):
This I'll keep
watch.
Rowan Collins (11:40):
Okay.
Isaac Allen Burns (11:41):
And and to
bed, two of you go as one of you
keeps watch.
Annie Hawthorne (11:48):
Yeah. I'm when
they're asleep, I'm gonna, like,
unravel the the cloth for asecond just in one section. I'm
gonna slip my hand in there, andI'm gonna open up my little
locker, and I'm gonna pull outthe continually rotting turnip.
And I'm gonna say, can you hearme now?
Isaac Allen Burns (12:11):
Frank, there
is as you do this, your hand
that's holding the staff, there's a pulse there. You you
feel it's one of those thingswhere you can feel something
kind of like like maybe a twitchor something coming in your arm
where you can either, like, leaninto it or you can resist it.
Craig, do you lean into thisfeeling?
Annie Hawthorne (12:30):
Yes.
Isaac Allen Burns (12:32):
Craig, you
lean in, and this, like,
euphoric feeling travels throughyou as you see the turnip in
your hand start to sort ofalmost, like, inflate back to
its healthy color and size. Yousee the bite that was taken
(12:54):
inside of it kind of closes up,and it's a full turnip. And you
hear a response. Who's there?Someone talking to me at turnip?
I'm just a little turnip. Thankyou.
Annie Hawthorne (13:10):
Hi. My name is
Craig. What's your name?
Isaac Allen Burns (13:12):
Hi, Craig. I
don't know. I'm a turnip.
Annie Hawthorne (13:15):
I'm gonna name
you Timmy. Timmy the turnip.
Isaac Allen Burns (13:17):
Oh, my name
is Timmy now. You've named me.
That gives me importance nowbecause I have a name.
Annie Hawthorne (13:24):
Okay. Well
Isaac Allen Burns (13:25):
What are you
gonna do with me,
Rowan Collins (13:28):
Why is that
sexual?
Joe Diametti (13:31):
Turnips are just
not they're an aphrodisiac, if
you don't know that.
Annie Hawthorne (13:35):
Crank is, like,
freaking out right now. And I
think, like, one of them, like, shuffles in their sleep and
cranks. Well, we can continuethis conversation later. And I
just stuffed the turnip back in,and I wrapped the the staff back
up. And I just sat therefreaking out because I think I
just did magic.
Isaac Allen Burns (13:50):
You stuffed
the turnip in there, and you
hear it kind of like, oh, andthen you close the door as it's
shoved into your chest.
Rowan Collins (13:59):
And you Hello.
Isaac Allen Burns (14:02):
You stand
there. You feel the turnip. It's
a little heavier now because itis not rotting anymore. It's now
fully back to a full turnip. Andthat lingering feeling of
euphoria kind of fades as timegoes on and you feel the staff
and the staff feels good.
Kapi and Pistachio, as you go tosleep, I would like the two of
(14:24):
you to roll. Here's what we'lldo. Here's what we're gonna do.
I'm the GM. Hey.
It's me, Isaac Allen Burns, GM.Sometimes you have a thought in
mind, and maybe the skills don'texactly follow it. So you kinda
just go outside the box for asecond. What I'm gonna do, when
I ask the two of you, Pistachioand Capi, I would like you to
(14:46):
choose one of your mentaltraits. You can choose any of
them.
You can choose the highest. Youcan choose the lowest. You're
gonna roll a check for this. TheDC for this, I'm going to set at
a 13. And tell me which youchose to roll.
If you fail, something willhappen that will be relative to
(15:09):
the stat you choose. What's yourchoice between
Rowan Collins (15:13):
Is this just like
a bad dream?
Isaac Allen Burns (15:15):
Veronica,
tell you
Joe Diametti (15:16):
what. I'm gonna
roll. Okay. Selfishly, I'm gonna
roll presents because it's aplus one.
Isaac Allen Burns (15:21):
Nice. Okay.
Go ahead and roll presents. And
what are you rolling, Pistachio?
Rowan Collins (15:25):
So I think his my
thought is if it's got anything
to do with, like, a mental stat,Pistachio's not doing well
mentally right now. So I think Ithink Pistachio is also gonna
roll presents because that's thelowest stat. And that's what I'm
gonna do. Oh, no. Oh oh, god.
(15:46):
I crit.
Isaac Allen Burns (15:47):
Oh, what do
we get? So what do we get? Well,
you crit. So What's
Joe Diametti (15:51):
the crit?
Rowan Collins (15:51):
Crit was elevens.
Joe Diametti (15:53):
Wow. Woah. I got a
16 with fear.
Isaac Allen Burns (15:56):
16 with fear.
Joe Diametti (15:57):
I beat it.
Isaac Allen Burns (15:58):
You do beat
it. Pistachio, I think what's
happening in this moment? Thestaff is reaching out to the two
of you. Pistachio, I think thatthe trauma of today of what
Pistachio has seen is just sortof overrunning any other sort of
(16:23):
mental stimuli that could becoming from external sources.
Rowan Collins (16:26):
Yeah.
Isaac Allen Burns (16:27):
And, Kapi,
you rolled a 16 with fear.
Right? Yes. So you beat it. Youbeat the DC, which to me says
that any attempts that the staffis making to try and insource
you at all is stymied by thevery willpower inside of you and
the desire for thatrecommendation so bad that there
(16:50):
is nothing this thing could doto set you off that course.
However, because you rode withfear, you still do have a bad
dream. Gabby, you weren't downthere. You have no idea what was
down there. You only know thedescription of what the two of
them said, which is someone wasdown there and was chained up.
Kapi, I think your bad dream isjust multiple iterations of that
(17:15):
scene except Crank's words ofwhat if that was Scarlet ring
true?
And you just see multipledifferent ways of Scarlet being
down there and in distress underduress with the staff causing
it.
Joe Diametti (17:30):
Yeah. And every
time he tries to run down the
stairs, it's just like one ofthose like never ending
staircases where he's alwaystrying to go down and he can't
get to it and then it'll he'llfinally leap and then like,
Crank will catch him and pushhim backwards. Or like, he'll
try to go down the stairs and hefeels pistachio as the dodo,
(17:50):
like, holding his legs so thathe can't go. That's good. Yeah.
Isaac Allen Burns (17:55):
That's good.
And much like falling asleep at
summer camp, you wake up withouteven realizing you'd been
asleep. And the light streamsthrough the board, and it is a
new morning. Now the three ofyou have woken up to this day,
and this is a rather intense dayfor this is the final day until
(18:15):
the Apple Festival. The AppleFestival doesn't exactly start
fully until noon.
So, you know, you'll have themorning of but as the three of
you wake up, let me ask. What doyou wanna do?
Rowan Collins (18:33):
Pink Pistachio
looks over at Kathy and goes,
okay, boss. So what are we doingto bolster defenses?
Joe Diametti (18:42):
Well, I hate to
say it. We're gonna need to get
the peacekeepers on board. Iknow. I Pistachio? It's just a
day.
It's a day. Trust me. Nobodyhates the peacekeepers more than
Kapi.
Rowan Collins (18:58):
That's true.
Annie Hawthorne (18:59):
Alright. Are
you talking about yourself
another person?
Joe Diametti (19:02):
Yes. For dramatic
effect. Right?
Annie Hawthorne (19:06):
I was I was
getting it. I was good. That
that was that's fine. Yeah.
Joe Diametti (19:10):
We need to go get
the peacekeepers. That's number
one.
Rowan Collins (19:13):
Okay.
Joe Diametti (19:14):
Number two, we
need to make sure that the staff
is protected.
Annie Hawthorne (19:21):
I have the
staff. No one's getting there
without going through me.
Joe Diametti (19:25):
Yeah. I love that
for you, big guy.
Isaac Allen Burns (19:26):
Crank. So I
will say you can either put some
ideas out of, like, what to doand, like, work on bolstering
the town, or you can go out tothe woods and test out all your
new powers. Yeah. I think Whichone would you like to do?
Annie Hawthorne (19:43):
I think Crank
can't stop thinking about that
staff. Yeah. So he's just gonnasay, hey, guys. I'm gonna go
over there and just look at the
Rowan Collins (20:00):
You're gonna keep
it
Annie Hawthorne (20:01):
out? The
strategic just the strategic
locations on that side of town.So I'll see you guys later, and
I'll I'll let you know what Ifind.
Rowan Collins (20:13):
Okay. Okay.
Alright.
Annie Hawthorne (20:15):
Course. I just
I wanna be useful so I'm gonna
go scout out Okay. That side oftown.
Joe Diametti (20:20):
Yeah. Alright.
Annie Hawthorne (20:21):
I guess that
makes sense.
Joe Diametti (20:22):
As as crank
leaves, I go to Pistachio. He's
been weird since he lost thehat.
Rowan Collins (20:28):
Yeah. I agree. I
% agree. I think we need to get
Crank that hat. Do we need tosteal from a child?
Joe Diametti (20:37):
Listen, I kinda
think Crank has to earn the hat.
Right? The last one was hisactual mentors. Don't know if a
hat from us is gonna alright.
Rowan Collins (20:47):
Let's But we're
like his best friends.
Joe Diametti (20:50):
Yeah. Well, I'm
your boss. But yeah.
Rowan Collins (20:55):
I'm my best
friend.
Joe Diametti (20:57):
Alright. So I'm
going to
Isaac Allen Burns (20:58):
the
peacekeepers. You go to the
peacekeepers.
Joe Diametti (21:01):
Is well, so I
guess where is the where are
they? Are they at their base, orare they at the bar, or are they
at the
Isaac Allen Burns (21:08):
Yeah. So you
would know the best place to
look for the peacekeepers is atthe barracks.
Joe Diametti (21:11):
Yeah. So I make my
way to the barracks.
Isaac Allen Burns (21:15):
As you head
over there, stepping out of the
barracks is one Nefany. Hey.Stepping out by herself, you see
that she's got her her weaponkind of at her side. And she's
walking out, she sees you andsort of smiles for every second
and then kinda, like, straightens up and just kinda
nods at you and says, morning,Kapi.
Joe Diametti (21:35):
Morning,
Stephanie. Hey, what? What
happened after we split off theother day?
Isaac Allen Burns (21:42):
It's been
it's been a little crazy. So we,
you know, we were there in yourguild. Right? And that whole
thing happened. Mhmm.
And people can tune in toprevious episodes to find out
what that was. To me, IsaacAllen Burns, hopefully, this
isn't your first episode. Youall left. You ran up towards the
farm, and you had said it was adistraction. And sure enough, I
got back to you know, I wentback to Stathaniel, and he was
(22:04):
laying on the ground, like, clutching his leg.
Sure enough, his his leg wascleanly broken. I've never seen
it break that clean. He claimshe fell on a rock, but I think
he's lying. They have notincreased the patrols at all.
They believed him when he saidhe fell on a rock.
So he's sort of he's in bedright now. This is gonna make it
very difficult for him to bepromoted if he's breaking his
(22:25):
leg on rocks. But
Joe Diametti (22:27):
of promotion,
Nethany, what do you want out of
all this? What do you want outof being a peacekeeper? What do
you what do you want out of Oh,wow. Life?
Isaac Allen Burns (22:38):
That's a deep
question for 08:30 in the
morning.
Joe Diametti (22:41):
Oh, fuck.
Isaac Allen Burns (22:42):
I forgot
Joe Diametti (22:42):
how early
Isaac Allen Burns (22:43):
it was. Oh my
gosh.
Joe Diametti (22:45):
Are you cold? He
takes off his jacket.
Isaac Allen Burns (22:47):
Oh, I mean,
no. It's the middle of spring,
but I okay.
Joe Diametti (22:50):
Spring is pretty
cold in the morning?
Isaac Allen Burns (22:52):
It is I mean,
it is chilly.
Joe Diametti (22:53):
I see it.
Isaac Allen Burns (22:54):
She kinda
blushes. She kinda leans into
you a little bit.
Joe Diametti (22:56):
Oh, yeah.
Isaac Allen Burns (22:57):
Well, I
really wanted to be a tank
mechanic to work on the armoreddivisions. And so I if I have a
couple years here and things arepretty clean to me, this is a
pretty cozy spot. It's prettyeasy pretty cushy. So as long as
nothing crazy happens, then Ican
Joe Diametti (23:12):
Have you ever
worked on any tech before?
Isaac Allen Burns (23:15):
Oh, yeah. All
the time. I mean, growing up, I
mean, my my mom was a mechanic. She worked mostly on just mostly
farm equipment. You know, welived in a town kinda like this
outside of the capital.
But once the NovaSite revolutionstarted, they started having
these all kinds of differenttechnologies. I mean, there's a
NovaSite powered tractor wherethey don't have to pull with
horse mules anymore.
Joe Diametti (23:35):
Wow. It
Isaac Allen Burns (23:35):
just does it
on its own. They're making
these, like, little imaginewagons
Joe Diametti (23:39):
Uh-huh.
Isaac Allen Burns (23:40):
But it drives
itself. There's no horse. It's
basically like a tank, but it'sfor one person. Wow.
Joe Diametti (23:47):
Sorry. Kapi is
just picturing crank with, like,
wheels.
Isaac Allen Burns (23:54):
You see that
she kinda gets a little
embarrassed and flustered andsays, I'm sorry. I'd yeah. I
start to get going ontechnology. I kinda lose myself.
Why why did you ask thatquestion?
That's a very odd question. Whydo
Joe Diametti (24:03):
you So where would
you go to do that? You could
pick anywhere in Altea.
Isaac Allen Burns (24:11):
Probably I
mean, the capital is one place.
There's this big Chertan, andthat's sort of the Let's do it.
What?
Joe Diametti (24:22):
Let's go there.
The capital? Yeah. I'm tired of
being held back here. Aren't youtired of the peacekeepers
holding you back?
It's whether it's peacekeepersor
Isaac Allen Burns (24:36):
I mean, it's
I I mean, it it is Anthony, I
have
Joe Diametti (24:41):
a proposition. I'm
about to get my recommendation.
Isaac Allen Burns (24:45):
Does that
mean is that a guild thing?
Joe Diametti (24:47):
Yeah. It's a guild
and then I can travel. Oh. We
could go to Chertone.
Isaac Allen Burns (24:54):
Yeah.
Chertone, but okay.
Joe Diametti (24:56):
Chertone. That's
it's a it's a regional dialect
thing. It's
Isaac Allen Burns (25:03):
Well, mean,
Cabbie is very sudden. I mean, I
I mean
Joe Diametti (25:06):
Yeah. Well, aren't
you tired of just waiting
around, taking it slow?
Isaac Allen Burns (25:11):
Make a
presence check for me.
Joe Diametti (25:16):
My presence is
plus one. 13 with hope.
Isaac Allen Burns (25:24):
Oh my god.
She kind of blushes and smiles
and says, I mean, I don't know. That could be that could be
nice. I mean, I could probably, you know, get maybe transfer.
They wouldn't be I would be ableto be transferred as high up as
I'd want my pussy.
Oh my god.
Joe Diametti (25:45):
And then he says,
I don't need to hear anymore.
We'll do it. Here's what wegotta do, though, first. We
gotta make sure that this AppleFestival goes off with a hitch.
Without sorry.
We have to make sure this AppleFestival goes off without a
hitch.
Isaac Allen Burns (25:58):
She's like
leaning kinda into you right now
after the kiss and, like, kindof looking at you wide eyed.
Joe Diametti (26:04):
Yeah. It's gonna
take all of us. It's gonna take
the Adventures Guild. It's gonnatake the Peacekeepers. It's
gonna take something that Idon't wanna say, but it's gonna
take us working together.
We can all make sure that thisevent happens without a hitch
and then you and I, we can goanywhere you want.
Isaac Allen Burns (26:24):
She her eyes
are like stars right now. You
have a feeling that maybe youwere a crush that she had, and
now her crush is kissing her. She's like
Annie Hawthorne (26:34):
My god.
Isaac Allen Burns (26:35):
She kisses
you again and then kinda steps
back and kinda, like, brushesherself off and says, this is
this is a lot to think about. This is, I mean, this is a lot
to think about having this with
Joe Diametti (26:44):
Well, we have a
day and a half.
Isaac Allen Burns (26:45):
She kinda
looks at you for a second as if
it's, like, not real and says, this is a lot to think about. I
mean, this I mean, I mean, Ibarely know you and, like,
you're really cute and handsome,but,
Joe Diametti (26:56):
I mean, it We have
all the way from here to
Chertain. What is it? Chertain. We have all the way from here to
Chertain to figure it out. Wow.
And if we get there and itdoesn't work out, go our
different ways. But at leastwe'll have done something.
Right?
Rowan Collins (27:11):
Oh my god.
Isaac Allen Burns (27:14):
You know, I'm
gonna we're gonna all make the
choice here that Bethany is thekind of person who would
absolutely be into this. Andmaybe she got sent to the
military because she's a littlewild, and this was setting her
on the straight and narrow. Andnow that wild streak is coming
out, and she says, yes. Let's doit. What do we need to do to
(27:35):
leave?
She, like, grabs you on the, like, collar and, like, pulls
you in close and says, what dowe
Joe Diametti (27:39):
need Kathy for a
minute is like, oh, and then he
remembers the plan. First thingis we need your peacekeepers to
be on board. We need all handson deck during the Apple
Festival. We need them atcertain posts and we need actual
collaboration between the teams.I think that maybe at the end of
(28:00):
it, we could even do aperformance review.
Annie Hawthorne (28:04):
Oh my god. Oh,
Rowan Collins (28:09):
It all comes full
circle. It all comes full
circle.
Isaac Allen Burns (28:13):
I'm shooketh.
What do I have to say? What can
I do? She you see a shiver goesto her, and she says, yes. I can
make this happen.
I exactly know what to do. Thecolonel is a drunk. I can get
him drunk and I can put a planon his desk to make him think
that he did it. They won'tlisten to me, but they'll listen
(28:35):
to him.
Joe Diametti (28:36):
Nefany, I might
actually love you. Oh
Rowan Collins (28:39):
my god.
Isaac Allen Burns (28:40):
Shut up and
kiss me again. Oh my god.
Joe Diametti (28:42):
And then he does.
Isaac Allen Burns (28:46):
I'm going out
on patrol. I have to go by my
lonesome because Nathaniel isout of commission, but I can
always have a second. Let's go.You you see that she takes her
patrol around the woods.Basically, you're on the edge of
town, and you walk, and you feela strong energy coming out of
Nepheny that you didn't knowexisted.
Joe Diametti (29:08):
Yeah. Oh.
Isaac Allen Burns (29:09):
We cut back.
Joe Diametti (29:09):
And I was gonna
say, don't know.
Isaac Allen Burns (29:11):
We cut back.
Annie Hawthorne (29:11):
Like, yeah.
Isaac Allen Burns (29:14):
We cut back.
Craig, you're out in the woods.
How do you test your magic? Gothrough what does Craig do with
this magic in these momentshere?
Annie Hawthorne (29:25):
Well, first,
I'm gonna, like, find a
clearing. I'm gonna make surenobody's around. I'll, like,
turn on my black and whitevision, and I'll, like, scan my
surroundings for anything thatlooks out of place.
Isaac Allen Burns (29:36):
Oh, you do
so, and go ahead and do a, we're
gonna say, an instinct role withthis, and you may definitely use
Battleborn to add to it.
Annie Hawthorne (29:50):
Battleborn. So
that's a plus plus four then
with Battleborn. 17 with hope.
Isaac Allen Burns (30:03):
That's really
good. So you look around. You're
on the northern side, a lot offorests. You are looking around
and your eyes scan the usuallocations, and you find nothing
out of place really, except youdo see this little crook in a
(30:25):
tree kinda high up. As you lookat it, you see some fresh
markings around the tree asthough someone has been
scrambling up and down this treesomewhat consistently.
So you look at it, you look atthe town, you realize it's kinda
hot. It's kind of up on a hillin a more elevated portion. Just
be clear to set the scene foreverybody. The forests are on
the northern side, which iswhere the mountains are. That's
(30:46):
the more mountainous side.
That's where elevation goesupwards. So if you're up towards
the mountain, you're kindahigher than where the town would
be, you can have a good view ofit. So you find what looks like
a stakeout location. It does notlook like anyone is there right
now.
Annie Hawthorne (31:04):
I might try to
actually tell them about this,
and then I'll pull out thestaff, and I'll unwrap it, And
I'll put my cape back on becauseit makes me feel fly. And I'll
just grip the staff in my handsand just, like, pour all of my
(31:26):
energy into it. I'm just hopingthat something will happen. Oh,
no. Oh, no.
Joe Diametti (31:36):
Oh, yes.
Rowan Collins (31:37):
For for the the
people that aren't in this room,
the GM is smiling.
Isaac Allen Burns (31:43):
I don't know
what you're talking about. I
don't know what you're talkingabout.
Rowan Collins (31:46):
That's not good
news. I don't know
what you're
talking about. Uh-huh.
Isaac Allen Burns (31:50):
You feel
reaching out as though the
forest around you and all livingbeings suddenly connect to you.
You feel like you can as wind ismoving through the trees, you
feel wind through the leaves.Every little surface area,
you'll all moving all at once.Grass underneath your feet, you
(32:11):
feel the pressure from youstanding there. Doesn't hurt,
but you can feel it.
You can smell the forest likeyou've never smelled it before.
It's rich and earthy. You feelthis connection as this magic is
going out. It feels really good.Through this training, I will
tell you this much right now.
(32:33):
While you are wielding thisstaff, your instinct score will
increase by one. Additionally, while you are wielding this
staff, you can reach out tonature and reach out to the
(32:53):
things around you and ask onequestion to it, which I will
answer as truthfully as naturearound you would answer. That is
what you know for now. Now,crank, as you're doing this, in
the same way that eating toomany sweets makes your stomach
(33:14):
kind of sickly, you sort ofreach out this magic feels good.
You discover this new thingabout this.
You feel your senses sharpen. You feel your mind grow strong.
There's this feeling deep inyour gut of, like, a wave of
nausea that goes through you,but then ceases as the feeling
the magic dissipates for amoment and it goes away. I'll
(33:35):
also say you can do that once aday, that effect. So you use it
for today.
You can't use it anymore, butyou can use it once a day. What
is the question that you wish toask nature?
Annie Hawthorne (33:47):
Who was here?
Isaac Allen Burns (33:51):
Nature
bubbles up your mind. Footsteps.
Someone breathing. They'realive. They're moving through.
Hands grip the side of a tree.Strong hands, weathered hands.
(34:12):
It starts to climb up with ease. This feeling sits there. You
feel hair brushing against thesides, fur brushing against the
sides of the bark.
You see flashes of red. You seetwo long metal implements. You
see this creature holdingsomething, making his eyes huge.
(34:36):
You hear his breathing. Every sooften, you hear a curse under
its breath.
Its heart beats very steady, very athletic build. Resting
heart rate really low because soathletic. Not too strong,
though, to break the trees. Verynimble as it goes down.
(34:57):
Continues up towards the northas it leaves.
Annie Hawthorne (35:02):
Do I get any
kind of feeling about that
person's intentions from nature?
Isaac Allen Burns (35:09):
You know, no
role even necessary because you
are battle born. As you'relooking at this, you know war,
you know fighting. You werebasically programmed for it.
This is a stakeout spot. They'renot staking out for anything in
particular, but as you'relooking, you can see clearly the
town square.
You can see many of the roads. This is a really good position
(35:31):
if you wanna keep eyes on thetown, and this person has been
doing just that.
Annie Hawthorne (35:39):
I just stare at
the town square, and I say, oh,
no. Kapi was right. And I willquickly wrap the staff back up,
put it back on my back end, just, like, run back into town.
Isaac Allen Burns (35:54):
Kapi, we cut
back to you and Nefany. You've
done your rounds. What state areyou two
Rowan Collins (35:58):
in? Undressed.
Joe Diametti (36:00):
Make it under the
jacket.
Isaac Allen Burns (36:01):
Nice. Nice.
Rowan Collins (36:03):
Is she wearing
Joe Diametti (36:03):
the dress? We did
our rounds. That's what you
said.
Isaac Allen Burns (36:05):
You did your
rounds. That's very true. That's
very real.
Rowan Collins (36:07):
Wait. Question.
Is she wearing the jacket?
Joe Diametti (36:10):
No. Like, we're
Annie Hawthorne (36:11):
yeah. I think
they're both
Isaac Allen Burns (36:12):
under the
jacket.
Annie Hawthorne (36:12):
They're both
Joe Diametti (36:13):
under the hanging
out up against we're like, it's
done. So now we're up againstthe tree with the jacket.
Rowan Collins (36:18):
Oh. She's, like,
Isaac Allen Burns (36:19):
playing with
your shirt.
Joe Diametti (36:19):
And, yeah, she's
smoking a cigarette.
Annie Hawthorne (36:21):
Oh, wow.
Joe Diametti (36:21):
She puts up to my
Kapi flips every now and then,
and he takes a hit.
Rowan Collins (36:25):
Woah. Kapi. Damn.
Two
Isaac Allen Burns (36:30):
furballs, you
know, naked as the day they were
born hanging out
Joe Diametti (36:34):
with And Ashton
starts she ashes and, like,
almost goes on the jacket, he,like, flips it
Isaac Allen Burns (36:38):
away really
fast. Wash the jacket. That's
me. Okay. Sorry.
Yeah. Just lost myself for asecond there in your eyes.
Joe Diametti (36:47):
Oh, it's fine. I'm
pretty cool about it. Anyways.
But what about the plan to gethim drunk and put the plans on
his desk?
Isaac Allen Burns (36:57):
I mean, I'm
gonna put the plans on his desk.
I'm gonna put whatever you wantme to put on his desk. You just
type up the orders what you wantthose six ne'er do wells to do
and I'll get it to him.
Joe Diametti (37:05):
Yeah. Okay. Yeah.
Let's do that and, you know,
hopefully nothing happens. Andif it does, hopefully they jump
into action.
You guys are trained. Right?
Isaac Allen Burns (37:16):
Oh, yeah.
They're trained. They're they
can shoot.
Joe Diametti (37:18):
Perfect. As long
as we get them there and in
their spots and focused, we'llbe that much better off.
Isaac Allen Burns (37:26):
If it goes
bad, who cares? We'll be long
gone. Right? You and I out toShurtahn.
Joe Diametti (37:32):
Yeah. Alright.
Kapi is he's like, he's like
actually oddly impressed andhe's aroused and he doesn't want
to be but
Annie Hawthorne (37:43):
He's aroused
and he doesn't want to be?
Joe Diametti (37:44):
He's like, I love
that. You're dangerous.
Isaac Allen Burns (37:51):
She smiles
coyly and says, that's what they
told me. We fade to black again. Is there any last things you
wanna do or you all retire? Westart the next day Yeah.
Joe Diametti (38:03):
I the festival.
Kapi thinks that there's
probably something at Cyrus'sthat he can use. He is going to
try to sneak into his part ofthe study and I assume from
(38:26):
growing up there, he probablyhas an idea, but he's going to
try to steal something. I alsodon't know what. But I assume
there's something that he Okay.
That would help us.
Isaac Allen Burns (38:44):
As you go in,
you see that Cyrus is once again
not there. You don't know wherehe is, but you go into his
study, sure enough.
Joe Diametti (39:26):
14 with fear.
Annie Hawthorne (39:28):
Here. Michael.
Isaac Allen Burns (39:29):
On a 14.
Okay. Here's what I'll tell you
then. So you are looking forsomething in Cyrus's. Yeah.
As you were rooting around, youfind that there is a picture on
the wall. It's kinda like aboring picture someone has in
their office. You know those, like, old maps that people have
in their office that kinda, like, you know, look kinda
(39:51):
weird. Mhmm. He's got one ofthose.
You push it aside and you seethat there's a panel in the
wall. And as you push it to theside, you find it inside the
panel as a weapon unlikeanything you've seen before.
Yes. There is this huge halberd.Very top of it, you see that it
(40:13):
is sort of separated where, youknow, the shaft will be
connected to where the blade is.
They're sort of it's sort ofseparated there, and it looks
like there's some kind ofreceptacle in there. And as
though something should slot inthere, veins of this strange
metal are we are woven throughthe blade connected to that
(40:35):
receptacle. Almost, you know, like a be very similar to you
ever seen a motherboard the waythat the metallic lines kind of
move through there? Mhmm. It'skinda what it looks like.
Something you also notice, Kapi. And on this one, I'm gonna need
a knowledge roll. So you seethat there is a symbol on the
blade. It is it almost lookslike a flag that is on fire. Go
(41:02):
ahead and roll knowledge.
Joe Diametti (41:02):
My knowledge is
minus one. Nine with hope.
Isaac Allen Burns (41:10):
A nine with
hope. You have not seen this
before. You do not know whatthis is, but you can tell that
with a flag burning because yourolled hope, I'll tell you that
I bet you bet this is youthinking. Kapi is thinking right
now. I bet if I were to askCrank, he
Joe Diametti (41:24):
would probably
know. Oh, awesome. Yeah. He
takes it.
Isaac Allen Burns (41:30):
You hear the
door open downstairs. Oh, no.
What will Capy do?
Joe Diametti (41:35):
I mean, he's gonna
immediately close it and put the
picture back, and then he'sgoing to try to sneak. Luckily,
he's a rogue. He's a rogue. So Iam going to when you move into a
location where with this countas an enemy, no enemies can see
you. You can use an action tobecome hidden.
Isaac Allen Burns (41:55):
You know, in
this case, I feel like with
Kapi's feeling towards Cyrus,I'll say this is an enemy.
Joe Diametti (42:00):
Okay. Yeah. So I'm
going to use an action to hide.
Ideally, like, by the door inthe corner so that when the door
opens, if he comes in, I can tryto sleep out.
Isaac Allen Burns (42:11):
Yeah. Sure
enough. You hide behind the
door, it opens and Cyrus limpson in. You see he's got a cane
in one hand, the cane he alwaysuses to walk. And you made a
hide check.
You're hidden right now. AsCyrus comes in, he is kind of
doing a brief look aroundeverything. You realize whenever
(42:31):
Cyrus walks into you realizethis a while back, and this is
why you hid here. Whenever Cyrusgoes into a room, he does a scan
of whatever room he's walkinginto. Whether it be military
training or what, he alwayslooks for it.
Joe Diametti (42:45):
I am a rogue. I'm
the shadow.
Isaac Allen Burns (42:47):
You're in the
shadows.
Annie Hawthorne (42:47):
Shadow.
Isaac Allen Burns (42:48):
His eyes
cross to behind the door. The
oldest trick in the book, hiseyes kinda go there for a split
second and then come backbecause who would hide behind
the door? That's like baby shit.So he kinda looks around. He
does his quick scan, and hewalks over to his desk and sighs
very heavily.
You see that he sort of looksout mumbling to himself. And
(43:10):
then he's sort of looking yousee he's looking out the window,
sort of scanning. His back is toyou. You see at this point, he
pulls something out of hispocket. You see, he pulls it,
puts it up to his ear.
Is Kapi gonna use this moment totry and sneak out, or does Kapi
stay? Kapi stays. Kapi stays. You hear him say
Joe Diametti (43:34):
Well, wait. Can I
imagine that while he was doing
that and walking over to thewindow, he starts sneaking out
the door? Yeah. And then hehears something and he peeks
back around because
Isaac Allen Burns (43:45):
He's peeking
back around.
Joe Diametti (43:46):
He's an idiot.
Isaac Allen Burns (43:46):
Yeah. Well,
Kapi so is Kapi gonna listen
Yes. And risk being seen or willleave
Joe Diametti (43:51):
and see?
Isaac Allen Burns (43:51):
Okay. Very
good. But I am
Joe Diametti (43:52):
on the other side
of the door now peeking in.
Isaac Allen Burns (43:54):
That's true.
You are peeking in. As Cyrus
kinda puts his whatever up tohis ear. You see it's kind of
glowing a little bit. It's got abit of a glow.
It looks like almost like ashard of crystal.
Joe Diametti (44:05):
Mhmm.
Isaac Allen Burns (44:06):
Flat. Right?
Flat and rectangular, and he has
it up to his ear. And can you goahead just right now just to set
how terrified you should be? Goahead and make an agility check
for me.
Alright.
Joe Diametti (44:17):
My agility is plus
one. That is a 15 with hope.
Isaac Allen Burns (44:24):
Wow. That's
really good. K. So in this case,
I will tell you, Kapi, you havenothing to fear because you will
be able to slip away after this. But you hear one side of this
conversation.
You hear Cyrus say, hey. It'sme. Yeah. Something's coming. I
think something's big.
(44:45):
Stay on the lookout. I'd reallyrather not get the kid involved
with this. They're young. Ifthey're doing what I think
they're doing, then you all needto be prepared for what's gonna
come next. If I don't see youagain, it's been fun.
(45:07):
You see, he just kinda slides inhis pocket, sighs. You see, he's
about to turn around. You slipout.
Annie Hawthorne (45:19):
I feel like I'm
running into the town square or
wherever the guild is, which Iguess would be on the West Side.
Isaac Allen Burns (45:26):
Nice. But You
bought some to the town
Annie Hawthorne (45:29):
square. For
Kapi. And I think I catch Kapi
coming out of the adventurer'sguild.
Isaac Allen Burns (45:34):
Nice.
Annie Hawthorne (45:34):
And I just grab
him by his shoulders, and I
start shaking him. Woah. What'sYou were right. You were right.
Someone's watching.
Joe Diametti (45:43):
Who's watching?
Annie Hawthorne (45:44):
I don't know,
but I don't think they have good
intentions for the AppleFestival.
Joe Diametti (45:49):
Alright. Listen.
You and I know what's at stake
here. Yes. You wanna get toPolaris?
Annie Hawthorne (45:56):
Yes.
Joe Diametti (45:56):
I have to get out
of here. We also have to protect
Scarlet and your mother
Annie Hawthorne (46:01):
And Pistachio.
Joe Diametti (46:02):
And Pistachio and
their family and especially
Pistachio.
Annie Hawthorne (46:06):
Of course.
Joe Diametti (46:07):
So let's not tell
them what you saw.
Annie Hawthorne (46:14):
Okay. And that
that will protect them?
Joe Diametti (46:18):
Will protect them.
Annie Hawthorne (46:20):
Okay.
Isaac Allen Burns (46:22):
Very good. As
you walk away, we, the audience,
linger. We go inside the guildto see Cyrus leaning up against
a wall hearing thatconversation, and we fade as
last minute preparations occur, and we'll end our session here.
(46:42):
And next we meet will be theApple Festival. Tune in for the
final moments of
Joe Diametti (46:49):
the very first
arc. I'm actually horrified.
Isaac Allen Burns (46:52):
Do we go to
the Apple scared.
Rowan Collins (46:54):
I'm so sorry.
Joe Diametti (46:55):
Been this on edge
about a
Isaac Allen Burns (46:56):
festival.
Apple Festival will be so fun,
Rowan Collins (46:58):
you guys. We're
gonna play Yay.
Joe Diametti (47:00):
We're gonna play
wait. Wait. Wait. Bobbing? Yeah.
There's a list. And we havegames and a stage. There's gonna
be theater and petting pens. You're gonna get
Isaac Allen Burns (47:09):
to find out
what the game Applejack
Annie Hawthorne (47:11):
taking notes.
Joe Diametti (47:12):
Oh, here's on my
phone because I forgot my
Isaac Allen Burns (47:15):
Well, thank
you once again for listening
here. Once again, shout out toDarrington Press for creating
Daggerheart . We're still inbeta. Can't wait to see what the
final release will be. And fromme to you to yours, good night.
Annie Hawthorne (47:29):
Oh my god.
Please, guys. Please. I swear.
No.
Joe Diametti (47:32):
Row it.
Rowan Collins (47:33):
Please. No. Oh my
god. Do you know how many people
Isaac Allen Burns (47:35):
would much we
have
Rowan Collins (47:36):
to end. I
understand. But, like,
Annie Hawthorne (47:39):
just, like
Isaac Allen Burns (47:39):
It takes a
little bit.
Rowan Collins (47:40):
