Isaac Allen Burns (00:32):
Hey. It's a podcast, everybody. Come on in.
Shut the door behind you. Sitdown.
Keep your hands and feet in thevehicle at all times because
this is gonna be a rollercoaster gang. Uh-oh. Welcome in.
It's me, your GM, your host, your good friend, your buddy,
your storyteller, Isaac AllenBurns. And joined with me today
on my right is one, RowanCollins playing Pistachio.

Rowan Collins (00:55):
What's up, fam?

Isaac Allen Burns (00:57):
And to Rowan's right, we have one, Joe
playing Kapi.

Joe Diametti (01:02):
Yo. Yo. Yo. Yo. And then to

Isaac Allen Burns (01:06):
Joe's right, we have the one and only Annie
Hawthorne playing crank.

Annie Hawthorne (01:12):
Hey, yo.

Isaac Allen Burns (01:14):
Oh, and it's me, Isaac Allen Burns. Nice to
meet you. He him. So Gang, Iwanna start somewhere a little

(02:29):
different today, guys. Before webegin, I'm gonna start with a
little bit of rules.
That's right. We're gonna talkrules right up front. There's
gonna be a lot happening in thisepisode, which we'll explain in
a second. But for starters, let's talk about countdowns. Now
we've met countdowns before inprevious episodes.
I wanna go over them one moretime because they're gonna be

(02:50):
used a little differently inthis episode, in this session.
As you know, countdowns are away to track looming threats or
events or to track the progressof certain player goals. In this
case, there will be a dicecalled the countdown die that
will track the progress ofsomething that we'll discover
soon. When certain actions aretaken by y'all or even by NPCs,

(03:15):
this dice will decrease. When itreaches zero, a certain event is
gonna be triggered.
Now there are also dynamiccountdowns in which certain
actions may or may not impactthe countdown. There are two
kinds of dynamic countdowns. Thefirst is a progress countdown
where you are working toward adesired outcome. The other is a

(03:38):
consequence countdown where youare trying to avoid a dreaded
outcome. We are going to beplaying today's session with a
combination of those two, and Iwill get into that soon.
However, another rule that Icannot wait to introduce, and
speaking personally, I thinkthis is my one of my favorite
parts of Daggerheart actually,is environments. That's right.

(04:01):
An environment has a stat blockand represents everything in a
scene that is not either the PCsor the adversaries. Adversaries.
This is from the physicalelements of the scene to
background characters to justsimply forces of nature.
Maybe for those who are morefamiliar with literary circles,
you ever heard New York City asa character? Mhmm. It's
basically that. It's it'sbasically that. We're gonna be

(04:24):
having an event environment thatI created called Bracken Road
Burning.
And while I won't get into thespecifics quite yet, we'll
discover what this does as wego. Are you all ready?

Rowan Collins (04:37):
Not ready for my

Isaac Allen Burns (04:39):
For starters, the best place to start is in
the beginning. And let's take alook back on what happened last
time. Because last time onDodoBorne , our three
adventures, our three heroesenjoyed a nice day at a festival
after many preparations weremade for the defense of this
from unknown and loomingthreats. Three of you got to

(05:01):
enjoy a little bit of this funfestival. You played some
different games.
You threw apples. You jackedapples. However, at the end
of the day,
as the Viscount Balthazar himself was
at giving a speech is whenterror struck. The town hall
building that you all had oncebeen inside erupted in a column

(05:25):
of fire. As the sounds ofconflict and gunfire and screams
erupted in the distance, You sawViscount drop dead as an unknown
assailant dressed in the garb ofJess Thane had stabbed and
killed him on stage in front ofeverybody and yelled, to Jess
Thane down with the Voltanidogs. That's all of you. And

(05:51):
before the three of you doanything, let's explain right
now what's happening.
So first and foremost, the threeof you are standing there. And
in all of the chaos, in all ofthat is going on here, three
things rise up to all of you tosee. First of all, you notice

(06:13):
certain threats around that needto immediately be taken care of.
And the other thing that youknow is that you are not going
to have time to get to all ofthem. Firstly, Kapi, you notice
that someone in the front lineof defense fighting the soldiers
is Nefany.
You can tell that Nefany is onlyholding her own for so long and

(06:35):
will not last out. Additionally,Crank, you look over almost
instinctually and down the road, you see that
the
library, the Bracken Rowe library Mhmm. Is
currently on fire. Finally,there's a building, a
nondescript building that iscurrently falling apart. Fire
has sort of caved it in. Someonehad tried to get out of this

(06:58):
building.
They were clearly hiding inthere for safety, but a heavy
beam has fallen on top of them.It is currently burning. You see
your mom trapped under a burningbeam. Your dad kind of trying
his best to pull her out andlift up the beam. But with his
sort of weakened state andbroken arm, he seems unable to
do so.
These three events, I am nowgonna roll these d fours. And

(07:21):
all three of those representbasically how many successful
actions of whatever you chooseneed to happen in order for
these to be.

Joe Diametti (07:31):
It's the sparkling your eye that's scaring me.

Isaac Allen Burns (07:33):
I'm just so happy.

Rowan Collins (07:36):
It gets lit every time.

Joe Diametti (07:37):
It's awful. Look at him.

Isaac Allen Burns (07:39):
Yeah. So I had each of y'all give me one of
these d fours, and I wannadecide which of these seem
closest to your hearts for whichones they are. So this dice that
I'm holding right now, KapiUh-huh. I'm gonna say this
represents Nefany. Okay.
You rolled a one. Uh-oh. Whichmeans one successful action

(08:01):
needs to be happened to resolveit

Rowan Collins (08:03):
Oh, I run

Isaac Allen Burns (08:04):
before things go bad. This dice right here is
the one that you gave me, Crank, and this one has a three. This
represents the library. Finally,it was represented by this dice
that Rowan gave me. Too.
And finally, before we get toodeep in the role play, there

(08:25):
were many smart decisions madefor preparation in previous
sessions.

Rowan Collins (08:30):
Let's go capy.

Isaac Allen Burns (08:31):
So I'm going to let y'all have a d eight.
This is what I will roll todetermine basically how many
actions total can be takenbefore the worst happens. So
starting with the first one.Let's see. That is a six.

(08:55):
Y'all have six actions thaty'all can take. A success and a
success with hope will bothdecrease whichever encounter you
want to attempt to resolve. Oncethis d eight goes down to zero,
though, the worst will occur foreach of those if they have not

(09:18):
been resolved. I will remind allof you, before you think about
going off on your own and eachsolving these individually, I
will remind you, Each of you mayspend a hope to give another
player the help action, basically, which in that case,
it adds a d six advantage dice. The person has to be at that

(09:43):
encounter for it to work.
So that was a lot of rules. Itwas a lot of stuff, but now that
we know what's happening, I willonce again just bring us back
into the role play and justrestate reset the scene.
Currently, chaos has eruptedaround the three of you. You see
that the the citizens of BrackenRoad that were in all of the

(10:04):
chairs have in in various statesof getting up and trying to run
away from the scene as fast aspossible. Fire the smell of fire
is lifted up in the air as smokeassaults your nostrils.
Viscount, Balthazar is dead onthe stage, and it seems like the
various Jastheni soldiers thatyou see around are making some

(10:27):
offensive moves. Additionally, you hear yells and screams in
the distance as more of thisgrows. Three of you are
standing. We're standing sort ofin the back with eyes on
everything. The town hall thatis kind of in the distance a
little bit has erupted in flame, and you're hearing a fight go on
in the distance.
However, directly in front ofyou, you see Nefany fighting off

(10:49):
a couple soldiers on her own ata clear disadvantage, and you
see the library is currentlyaflame. So you three, what do
you do?

Rowan Collins (11:02):
Mom! Oh, no.
Pistachio, like, goes to run forward and then
looks back at Kapi as if askingfor permission.

Annie Hawthorne (11:13):
The library's on fire.

Joe Diametti (11:14):
Yes. Crank, the library's on fire. And Kapi is,
like, rubbing Crank's arm. It'sgonna be fine. It's all gonna be
fine.

Rowan Collins (11:22):
What are

Annie Hawthorne (11:22):
you doing? This is no time for this.

Joe Diametti (11:24):
Yes. It's all gonna listen.

Annie Hawthorne (11:26):
The library is on fire.

Joe Diametti (11:28):
It's Do

Annie Hawthorne (11:30):
I know if Roseanne is in the library?

Isaac Allen Burns (11:32):
You don't think Roseanne is in the library
because you remember Roseannewas in the group that was out
fighting. But all those booksare in the library.

Annie Hawthorne (11:40):
And I run. Just run to the library. I'm going to
the library.

Isaac Allen Burns (11:43):
Greg, because I'm
the library.

Joe Diametti (11:44):
A bigger force that just told us not to do
that, Pistachio.

Annie Hawthorne (11:51):
I'll be right back.

Joe Diametti (11:52):
We got it. We got we have

Isaac Allen Burns (11:53):
alright. Let's go. Oh, Pistachio, you and
Kapi run over. You see yourfather looks at you and says,
Pistachio, help me. I can't. I'm not I
can't lift it up. I'm not strongenough.

Joe Diametti (12:03):
Oh, god. I was really hoping the giant robot

Isaac Allen Burns (12:06):
was And

Rowan Collins (12:06):
they will jump into beast form. They're gonna
go into the dodo, the stalkingand arachnid that we heard from
the torture scene. Eldritch dodoof spider dodo.

Isaac Allen Burns (12:19):
Oh, no. Okay. Yeah. You turned into that.
Yes.

Rowan Collins (12:23):
So they have a thing called web slinger, which
means I'm able to create astrong web material that can be
useful in both adventuring andbattle. It's resilient enough to
support a single creature. Sowhat I would like to do with
this is essentially create a weband then wrap it around so that
we can use that in the soft ofrope to pull the actual beam off

(12:47):
as we pull my mom out.

Isaac Allen Burns (12:50):
Oh, using pulleys, using mechanics. Very
nice.

Joe Diametti (12:54):
I was going to try to use the Halbert to get
leverage underneath the post totry to lift it up far enough.

Isaac Allen Burns (13:01):
What an exciting use of simple machines.
This is incredible.

Rowan Collins (13:04):
Look, neither of us are engineers,

Isaac Allen Burns (13:06):
but I took physics.
Who wants to roll?

Joe Diametti (13:10):
I feel like you had a lot more going on there.
Okay. Alright. But you roll itout. I'll use the halberd if I

Isaac Allen Burns (13:16):
I think this is gonna be a strength check-in
this case.

Rowan Collins (13:18):
Okay. I

Isaac Allen Burns (13:20):
don't want You can definitely just sling
the sling your rope around. But

Annie Hawthorne (13:25):
sling your rope around.

Rowan Collins (13:26):
It says finesse, but I'll take strength.

Isaac Allen Burns (13:29):
Well, it's easy to you could you finesse
the rope on there. You finessethe web on there. But now it's
the act of, like, lifting.

Rowan Collins (13:35):
I'm gonna yeah. Okay. So this is a 13 with hope.

Isaac Allen Burns (13:42):
K.

Rowan Collins (13:42):
And wait, because you were helping, right?

Joe Diametti (13:45):
Yeah. I can help. The hope? Yeah. Alright.
Yeah. So I roll my d six.

Isaac Allen Burns (13:51):
Yeah. As you yeah. Roll a d six. Do you have?
That

Joe Diametti (13:56):
was a one.

Rowan Collins (13:59):
Can I

Isaac Allen Burns (13:59):
And that was with hope?

Rowan Collins (14:00):
Yes. Can I spend my fam can we think that this
is, like, similar to, like, afamily of farmers using my
experience to add to?

Isaac Allen Burns (14:08):
I think this is absolutely your family, And I
would say yes. I think thiswould track. So you can spend a
hope to use that experience tohelp you.

Rowan Collins (14:16):
Okay. That then turns it to what was that? 13?

Isaac Allen Burns (14:19):
There's a total of a 16.

Rowan Collins (14:20):
16. Yes. With hope.

Isaac Allen Burns (14:22):
With hope, which is success.

Joe Diametti (14:25):
How much hope do you have?

Isaac Allen Burns (14:27):
I have six hope. Six?

Rowan Collins (14:29):
Almost. I There

Isaac Allen Burns (14:30):
was a lot of talk about

Annie Hawthorne (14:32):
very helpful.

Isaac Allen Burns (14:33):
There's a lot of talk about your GM getting
lots of fear, but I providedy'all plenty of hope because I'm
nice.

Rowan Collins (14:39):
Oh, I keep forgetting to use

Isaac Allen Burns (14:40):
it. So
But that is enough. You are able to lift
this beam off of your parents. And though you see your mom it's
definitely been burned. Like, she like, you can tell, like,
from her back, the back of herlegs are burned really bad, but
she's not gonna die today. Asshe comes up out of it, she
immediately, like, embraces youin a hug.

(15:02):
Me? Actually, yeah. Becauseyou're a spider, so she embraces
Kapi in a hug. Oh. Oh, man.

Rowan Collins (15:06):
Pistachio, like

Isaac Allen Burns (15:07):
Kapi, you saved me.

Rowan Collins (15:09):
Yes. Pistachio pops out
of dodo
form and goes, mom.
Oh, my baby. Hugs onto her the bottom of her legs.

Joe Diametti (15:17):
The burning legs?

Isaac Allen Burns (15:18):
Yeah. She screams in pain a little bit,
but then reaches down and, like, grabs you and holds you close
and says, oh my dear. Oh. Oh mygod. You were so terrifying.
That was you. I don't know. I didn't think I
would make it.

Rowan Collins (15:30):
I'm sorry, Bob. We are you okay now? We got we
got we got go, but, like

Isaac Allen Burns (15:36):
Okay. We're trying to get to safety.

Joe Diametti (15:37):
Okay. Get to

Isaac Allen Burns (15:38):
safe stay safe, Pistachio.

Rowan Collins (15:39):
Okay. I think dad, get home. Get out of here.

Isaac Allen Burns (15:44):
You're you see that your dad grabs, like,
your mom's arm and looks at youwith a solemn nod in that way
that shows trust in your abilityto handle this situation. And
without question, he grabs yourmom and looks question, he grabs
your mom and looks at the two ofyou and takes off running.

Joe Diametti (16:07):
Alright, kid?

Rowan Collins (16:07):
I I think my dad is proud of me. I'm having too
many emotions, Gappy. I need youto take over.

Joe Diametti (16:16):
Okay. Let's let's go. Let's you're doing great,
kid. Also, your mom all the heatreally looks great. It's shiny.
Okay. You're right.

Isaac Allen Burns (16:25):
Let's go.

Joe Diametti (16:25):
Let's go. Okay. Is is Nefany still fighting things
off?

Isaac Allen Burns (16:30):
Nefany is still fighting.

Joe Diametti (16:31):
Okay. I only need one action to go well to save
Nefany. Right? Pretty much.Yeah.
Alright. He's going to take hisHalbert and he's gonna say he's
gonna yell over at Nefany, heyNefany. And wait hang on. Duck.

(16:53):
Okay.
And then hoping she ducksbecause he's gonna go in for a
big swing to kinda like at leasteither make contact or push back
the other.

Isaac Allen Burns (17:03):
Okay. Roll? This is an attack roll.

Joe Diametti (17:07):
Hang on. I have to figure out what that means.

Isaac Allen Burns (17:09):
We are now at a four. This is gonna be with
strength, by the way.

Joe Diametti (17:16):
A nine with fear.

Rowan Collins (17:19):
Oh, no. Oh, no.

Isaac Allen Burns (17:20):
Oh, no. Fear.

Annie Hawthorne (17:21):
I think Nefany's

Rowan Collins (17:22):
a lost cause. I don't think Nefany

Isaac Allen Burns (17:24):
heard that.
Oh, no.
So that is a failure with fear.

Rowan Collins (17:29):
Oh, no.

Isaac Allen Burns (17:30):
That's a real shame. So

Rowan Collins (17:32):
Oh, no. I guess you don't have to break up with
her if she's dead.

Joe Diametti (17:39):
Isaac's face right now stressing me out.

Isaac Allen Burns (17:42):
So I am I will say in the rules, it does
not specify that fear can't gothe other way with it and make
things worse. But I'm going tosay, I need this to feel tense.
I need this to feel like a badsituation. I'm gonna say a

(18:03):
failure with fear does jump itup by one. Yeah.
So we're now at two successfulactions that are needed. As you
yell duck, Nefany does the lastthing you wanted, which is to
just turn around Ugh. For asecond to see what just yelled.
And so here, Alfred comes in andjust sorta runs into the both of
them to one of the soldiers thatshe was fighting and Nefany

(18:25):
herself, and they're both kindathrown to the side.

Rowan Collins (18:29):
Shabby, that's the opposite of what you wanted
to do.

Isaac Allen Burns (18:33):
Stephanie yells in pain.

Joe Diametti (18:35):
Oh. Okay. Well, I can fix this. I can fix this.
Crank.
Running to the library.

Annie Hawthorne (18:44):
Yes.

Isaac Allen Burns (18:44):
What are you gonna do? You kick the door
You kick the door in. Very good. You see that
the fire is wide. You look over, you see that a torch is sitting
in the corner, kind of almostlike it was thrown in here. That
corner of books is a lost cause.
But you see that because theseare dry books, very flammable,
by the way, the whole back wallhas caught a flame right now.

(19:06):
What do you do?

Annie Hawthorne (19:07):
I'm just gonna open up my little locker, and
I'm gonna start shoving booksin. As many as I can get. Okay.

Isaac Allen Burns (19:16):
Well, you know? What so, Annie, what do
you think that role should be?What do you think this role
should be? Agility for speed.Actually, that's what I'm gonna
say.
It's agility role for how manybooks you can grab in. 20

Annie Hawthorne (19:43):
with fear? Oh my god. Oh my gosh. With fear
though? With fear.

Isaac Allen Burns (19:47):
So that is a success. In this case, the fear
effect is simply that it will godown by one instead of going
down by two for a success withhope. So there are now two
actions that need to be had, which in this case, of course,
the countdown is for the worstpossible outcome, which in this

(20:07):
case would be everything islost. So that represents you
have grabbed a bunch of books, and now less books will be
missing, and we are now atthree. So everyone is taking a
turn to open it up again.
I think, honestly, Kapi, Ithink, is in the most dire
straits at this point since youjust whacked your girlfriend,
basically. So, Kapi, what do youdo?

Joe Diametti (20:30):
K. Nathany, are you okay?

Isaac Allen Burns (20:34):
You hear,
fuck. Ow. Was And for the soul and for the
enemies.
Yeah. Nathany.

Joe Diametti (20:40):
Yeah. Okay. Would you say really quick, would
being angrier help you fight? What are you talking I just I'm
gonna help you but I just Ithink that maybe we should break
up.

Isaac Allen Burns (20:57):
As

Joe Diametti (21:03):
he says that, he's going to take out his daggers
and throw them at the Justinebad guys.

Isaac Allen Burns (21:10):
That's incredible. I'm gonna ask for

Joe Diametti (21:12):
a presence check on this one. Good. Presence is
plus one.

Isaac Allen Burns (21:16):
Here we go.

Joe Diametti (21:19):
Hell yeah. That is a I forgot how to do math. Hang
on.

Isaac Allen Burns (21:24):
You can do it. One number plus another. No.

Joe Diametti (21:27):
I know. It's twelve plus ten. 20 two. 20 two.

Isaac Allen Burns (21:32):
It's so hard.

Joe Diametti (21:33):
I'm sorry. 22 hope too. I wanna be clear.

Annie Hawthorne (21:36):
Get that hope.

Rowan Collins (21:36):
Did you add your one?

Joe Diametti (21:37):
Oh, no. I didn't. It's 20 hope. Thank you. So
Rowan?

Isaac Allen Burns (21:42):
That is a success with hope, and that will
there was only two left on thatcountdown, and thus, in whatever
way we are about to find out, that is resolved. You see that
she hears that, and she looks atyou, and she says, are you

(22:02):
breaking up with me?

Joe Diametti (22:04):
I just think that maybe you deserve better.

Isaac Allen Burns (22:08):
We had all these plans, Kapi. No. No. No.
We were gonna run to your towntogether.

Joe Diametti (22:12):
Yes. And you You're just gonna abandon me
now? Just think the Give alittle fight? Town's not big
enough for the two of us butit's definitely big enough for
you and your dreams and I Iwould love to support you from
like a good distance away.

Isaac Allen Burns (22:25):
She is heartbroken. Oh my god. You see
that her face is just one thatjust drops. Her heart is clearly
in the floor. She Oh.
Kinda shakes her head. Yourdaggers that you fly out go on
either side of her and land inthe soldier that was behind her,

(22:45):
and he drops dead immediately. She just says, I thought you
were different. See, I waswrong. And then she just grabs
her weapon and turns and takesoff towards the town hall,
clearly angry Yeah.
But also incredibly hurt. Oh.The fact you broke up with her

(23:08):
in the middle of a fight. Jesus.

Joe Diametti (23:10):
Oh. I wish she would just be mad, but sad
hurts. Okay.

Rowan Collins (23:15):
We gotta get to Craig.

Isaac Allen Burns (23:17):
Craig. If you would like, make a Okay. In this
case, make a strength check forme.

Joe Diametti (23:25):
And assuming this goes well, we'll hand

Annie Hawthorne (23:28):
it Hey. Stop saying that. You can't say that
right

Rowan Collins (23:30):
now. Say that

Isaac Allen Burns (23:31):
right now.

Annie Hawthorne (23:32):
Jinx it. Don't jinx it.

Joe Diametti (23:36):
Hate that face.

Rowan Collins (23:37):
I don't like that face either.

Annie Hawthorne (23:39):
It's a nine, ten, 11 with fear.

Isaac Allen Burns (23:42):
Uh-oh. So I'm do something even more fun.
No.
Annie, Crank is grabbing as many books as
they can, but the I'll say this, the structural integrity of this
building is already starting togive. But at the same time, of

(24:07):
you are hearing noises behindyou to suggest that something
else terrible has happened.

Annie Hawthorne (24:14):
Well, I feel like I've stuffed myself as full
of books as I can.

Isaac Allen Burns (24:19):
So
You pretty much have. Yeah.

Annie Hawthorne (24:21):
I'll, like, give one last look at the
library. Just forlornly in thedoorway. It's like a beam falls.
And I'll turn and I'll step outinto the road, and I'll face
whatever's coming.

Isaac Allen Burns (24:32):
What was the first memory that Crank had in
this library? What's the onememory that plays through in
Craig's mind before Crank turnsfrom this library and it falls
to Park forever?

Annie Hawthorne (24:46):
I think meeting Roseanne the first time I walked
in.

Isaac Allen Burns (24:50):
And what was that like?

Annie Hawthorne (24:52):
Warm, kind. I think she was the first person
who ever really showed realkindness to Crank in this town.
So he just remembers that warmth

Isaac Allen Burns (25:06):
I think so too.

Annie Hawthorne (25:07):
Smile on her face.

Isaac Allen Burns (25:08):
How often did Crank come to the library to
read those books because Crankwanted to read those books again
or because Crank wanted to feelthe warmth of Roseanne?

Annie Hawthorne (25:17):
Yeah. I think that that was one of the main
reasons he spent so much timehere.

Isaac Allen Burns (25:24):
Crank, you feel that warmth as you turn,
and you hear the snapping ofthat beam falling, and the rock
and roll library turns to ash.I'd as you look over and see the
really bad thing that'shappening, which is a soldier is
currently stomping on a bunch ofrats who are coming towards

(25:45):
y'all
No.
Clearly with a message. Woah. What's So,
Frank, you are the one who brokeoff first. You run over. What do
you do with this soldier?

Annie Hawthorne (25:56):
I guess, just grab him by the throat. Pick him
up.

Isaac Allen Burns (25:59):
You pick him up.

Joe Diametti (25:59):
He's a Just Dane soldier?

Isaac Allen Burns (26:01):
Yes.

Annie Hawthorne (26:01):
And I'm just gonna say, what do you want?
What are you doing here?

Isaac Allen Burns (26:06):
Alright.

Annie Hawthorne (26:10):
I'll I'll drop him. I'll just drop him from,
like, five feet in the air.

Isaac Allen Burns (26:14):
You drop him. He hits the ground hard.

Annie Hawthorne (26:15):
And I just put my foot in the middle of his
back, and

Isaac Allen Burns (26:18):
I just

Annie Hawthorne (26:19):
stepped down just enough.

Isaac Allen Burns (26:21):
Yeah. You hear ribs snap, and he has time
to scream out in pain beforerats descend on him and just
consume him. Oh.

Rowan Collins (26:27):
Oh my god.

Isaac Allen Burns (26:29):
The rats look up at you and go, They start
pointing wildly.

Rowan Collins (26:39):
The way we got it?

Isaac Allen Burns (26:43):
Yeah. They all form a hand in the direction
over to the west.

Annie Hawthorne (26:49):
Alright. I run west.

Isaac Allen Burns (26:50):
You run west, you realize what they were
pointing at, and what they werepointing at is the adventurer's
guild.

Rowan Collins (26:55):
Uh-oh.

Isaac Allen Burns (26:57):
Okay. You two see Crank you two see Crank
running in that way. Crank, youlook over in the direction of
the adventuring guild. And inthe distance, couple blocks
over, you see a scuffle goingon. Some of the young soldiers
that y'all had sort of broughttogether to help defend, you see

(27:21):
three of them fending off agroup of soldiers.
You see that they are protectinga group of civilians. You don't
see a lot of faces in thosecivilians. There's maybe, like,
I would say, eight. You don'trecognize most of them. However,
you do recognize two of them asyou see Toulouse shielding a
young Alana from the onslaught.

Rowan Collins (27:43):
There you go.

Isaac Allen Burns (27:44):
Pistachio, you are looking towards Crank.
And further in that direction, you see further up the street, a
plume of smoke in the air thatyou know where that is coming
from. That is coming from yourfamily farm. As you look up in
the distance, you see flameskind of coming from the whole

(28:05):
field, coming from the building. In the distance, you can see it.
And as you do so, let's rollthese three dice again. Oh.

Rowan Collins (28:14):
Oh, no. You thought this was over?

Isaac Allen Burns (28:17):
Yeah. Saw this. Was over?

Joe Diametti (28:20):
I did. I was feeling really good about how
well we handled that. I waslike, man, we probably ruined
the whole GM's day.

Isaac Allen Burns (28:28):
Oh, trust me. Kathy.

Rowan Collins (28:29):
Not yet.

Isaac Allen Burns (28:31):
The Adventuring Guild will be
represented by your dice. Inthis case, I rolled a 4. Oh.
Pistachio. This is on your diceis on a 3.
And for you, Crank, your dice ison a 2. I have rolled a 6. So

(28:54):
who's going first?

Annie Hawthorne (28:58):
I'm sprinting.

Isaac Allen Burns (29:00):
Crank sprints. Crank takes initiative.
Crank, you run over towardsthose soldiers. You see the
young you see that some of theyoung people, one of them you
know, one of you recognizesHazel. She's, like, kinda
backing up the civilians.
She's got, like, what looks likea rifle in her hands, and she's,
like, firing at the soldiers whoare firing back. What do you do?

Annie Hawthorne (29:19):
I am gonna grab Timothy and Alana, and I'm gonna
scoop them behind me as far awayfrom the action as I can get
them. And I'm gonna drop intounstoppable mode. Oh.

Rowan Collins (29:32):
Oh, no. Oh, no.

Isaac Allen Burns (29:33):
Very good. You do so. Go ahead. We're gonna
say make a strength check.Strength is not only for your
muscles and how strong you are,but also your force of body,
your force of constitution, onecould say.

Annie Hawthorne (29:53):
Can I use my you've got a friend in me
experience since they're myfriends?

Isaac Allen Burns (29:58):
I'm gonna say yes. I'm gonna say absolutely.
They will not there's basically, they're gonna help you as much
as they can in this.
Oh, no.
What did you roll?

Annie Hawthorne (30:08):
I rolled a two and a three.

Joe Diametti (30:09):
Oh. Uh-oh.

Isaac Allen Burns (30:11):
With hope or fear?

Annie Hawthorne (30:12):
With fear, then that's gonna be a five plus four
is nine with fear.

Isaac Allen Burns (30:17):
I'm gonna keep the numbers the same, but I
am gonna escalate instead ofwith numbers. I'm gonna escalate
with an action from the BrackenRoad burning environment. That's
right. As an action, I can useattack soldiers. A group of
soldiers will convene upon theevent's location.
There are now two soldiers hereto cause chaos. They have their

(30:39):
weapons drawn. You see that theyare these, like, broadswords
almost, but they're shapedalmost more like the bayonet on
the end of a musket. They havethese sort of long rifles with a
long sword at the end of it. Oneof them is pointing at it like a
rifle, and the other is holdingit like a sword.
It's one of these really coolweapons that can be used in two
different ways. It's a fantasyworld. Let us live our fantasy.

(31:01):
And as you try and get in theway, in the chaos of it, you're
not quite able to get them back. But I think on a positive note,
you do shield them from somegunfire, some attacks that go
through, which means I'm gonnaroll dice because you have been
hit.

(31:23):
That's four damage.

Annie Hawthorne (31:25):
K. I have resistance to damage in my
current state.

Isaac Allen Burns (31:28):
Oh my god. You do protect what could have
been something fatal towardsthose two. However, the
countdown does not decrease. Theassault continues.

Annie Hawthorne (31:37):
Just gonna look at them.

Isaac Allen Burns (31:38):
Yeah. And he points his rifle at you.

Annie Hawthorne (31:41):
I run at him.

Isaac Allen Burns (31:42):
Oh, okay. You run at them. What do you do?

Annie Hawthorne (31:45):
I'm gonna try to grab him.

Isaac Allen Burns (31:46):
Oh, okay. Roll an attack roll, Bullseye.
12

Annie Hawthorne (31:58):
with hope.

Isaac Allen Burns (32:00):
In this case, this is an attack roll against
an enemy. And so which in thatcase, I will say that this does
hit them. Go ahead and rolldamage.

Annie Hawthorne (32:15):
Five.

Isaac Allen Burns (32:17):
Five. You grab one, you hurl him, and you
hear a loud snap as he hits hisneck on the way out and dies.
Use our minions, by the way. AndI'm gonna say in that case,
we're gonna cut to you two asyou're running towards the
Adventures Guild.

Rowan Collins (32:33):
Isaac, question for you.

Isaac Allen Burns (32:36):
Yeah. That's

Rowan Collins (32:37):
good. Did did Wally come to the festival?

Isaac Allen Burns (32:41):
Wally did not come to the festival.

Joe Diametti (32:46):
Fuck. Wasn't Wally the guy this is just Joe. Wasn't
Wally the guy hitting on that hehe did things with Scarlet
sometimes?

Isaac Allen Burns (32:56):
Mhmm.

Joe Diametti (32:56):
Yeah. Well, okay.

Isaac Allen Burns (32:59):
So Wow. Wow.

Rowan Collins (33:01):
That is my brother.

Joe Diametti (33:04):
Well, I really

Isaac Allen Burns (33:05):
Especially your mind goes to the fact that
Wally did not come to thefestival because Wally is
recuperating at home. Whilewhile that doesn't necessarily
mean that Wally is a burninghusk right now, Pistachio, I
don't think, is fully sure whatthe status of Wally is.

Rowan Collins (33:26):
I think Pistachio runs through that thought in
their brain of, both their farmand Wally being there and turns
their back to their farm andgoes to help the group in front

(33:47):
of them right now. So whatthey're gonna do is they are
going to use their viciousentangled spell again on the
people that are close to thegroup that is fighting with
Hazel.

Isaac Allen Burns (34:00):
Do it up.

Rowan Collins (34:01):
So Is it an 18 with hope? Well, there's a

Isaac Allen Burns (34:06):
success. It's
really good. So that does solve this,
basically.

Rowan Collins (34:13):
Okay.

Isaac Allen Burns (34:14):
This was it too. You run up, you do the
entangled spell.

Rowan Collins (34:17):
What I'm gonna do as well is I can because I've
succeeded, I'm going to spendone of my hopes, the hope that I
just got, to temporarilyrestrain any enemies that are
very close to them as well. Sothat if they're very close to
each other, it should restrainboth of them. Then they turn to
Hazel and go, Wally's still athome. And then they point to the

(34:39):
farm that is on fire.

Isaac Allen Burns (34:41):
One of the soldiers fully dies, the one
that you had wrapped in. You seethem collapse. The soldiers
around are immediately cut downby the barrage. You know what?
Go ahead.
Give me, in this case, do apresence roll for me. Presence
roll for me.

Rowan Collins (35:00):
That is a crit.

Annie Hawthorne (35:02):
Oh, nice.

Joe Diametti (35:02):
You got four. Crits?

Rowan Collins (35:04):
I know.

Annie Hawthorne (35:05):
I'm glad some of

Rowan Collins (35:05):
us are.
Let's go fours.

Isaac Allen Burns (35:07):
See, I made this too easy for you guys. You
say that, and I made thatpresidential for the Pistachios
Farm burning. You see Hazel'seyes go wide, and she says she
turns to soldiers and says, withme. Farms are on fire. She turns

(35:28):
back to you and says, we heardmajor Balthazar going to the
orchard because he drew some ofthe soldiers with him saying
that the orchards were beingattacked.
They might be out there still. We'll run over to the farms and
try and take care of those.

Rowan Collins (35:39):
Okay. They look straight at their sister and go,
you got this, Hazel. I believein you. Keep Wall E alive.

Isaac Allen Burns (35:48):
She nods at you and says, stay alive too.
And she, like, grabs yourshoulder and gives it one good
squeeze.

Rowan Collins (35:56):
They do the same, and they, like, do their little,
like, twin headbutt, and thenthey disappear off.

Isaac Allen Burns (36:03):
You butt heads, and then sure enough,
they take off towards the forms. Those two successes will go
towards that one. So that one isat a one.

Rowan Collins (36:12):
Pistachio is just, like, next to Kathy, just,
like, kind of freaking outbecause everything is kind of on
fire. Their dad's proud of them. They killed a man. Like, the
fire thing is on fire.

Joe Diametti (36:26):
I stop really quick. I'm like,

Isaac Allen Burns (36:27):
Pistachio. Uh-huh. Look at me. Uh-huh.

Joe Diametti (36:29):
Are you okay?

Rowan Collins (36:30):
No. But we can deal with that later.

Joe Diametti (36:32):
Sure. Can I tell you something? Uh-huh. You know
what? We'll talk about it later.
And then I I I I grab them as Itake off to to the Adventures
Guild.

Isaac Allen Burns (36:39):
You run into the Adventures Guild, and as you
step in, you can immediatelytell something is wrong. As you
step in, a fight has occurredhere. You see the front desk
broken, cabinets on the ground, papers everywhere, phone in the
corner destroyed. Uh-oh. You seeblood on the ground as well.

Joe Diametti (36:58):
Double o.

Isaac Allen Burns (36:59):
There's a big bloodstain that is running out
of the building. There's anotherone that goes deeper in. You
swear you're allowed tickingdeeper into the Adventures
Guild.

Joe Diametti (37:08):
Triple o.

Rowan Collins (37:10):
Oh.

Isaac Allen Burns (37:10):
What do you two do?

Joe Diametti (37:13):
Okay. So there's a bloodstain going into the
building where there's alsoticking? Yes.

Rowan Collins (37:18):
That sounds like a bob and not the good kind. Do
you know how to dismantle a bob?

Joe Diametti (37:26):
No. It could also just be not a bomb.

Isaac Allen Burns (37:29):
It could be A mysterious a grandfather

Joe Diametti (37:31):
clock. We have one of those.

Rowan Collins (37:32):
Oh, yeah.

Joe Diametti (37:33):
The grandfather clock. Uh-huh. It might just be
broken in the fight. I thinkthat we should go in and

Isaac Allen Burns (37:39):
check it out.

Rowan Collins (37:40):
Yes. Yes.

Joe Diametti (37:42):
Do we go in?

Isaac Allen Burns (37:43):
You look you find the bloodstain ends at the
end of the hall inside a room. And inside that room, it's a
storage closet. Inside thestorage closet, you see a
Justinian soldier, heavy dentsin his armor, like something hit
him hard. He is laying therewheezing as next to him is some

(38:11):
kind of glowing object. This isoblong cylindrical object.
The very center of it, you seewhat looks like almost a clock
of sorts. The very center ofthat clock, you see what looks
like this gemstone that yourecognize from things you've
seen before on certain newertechnologies. This is a NovaSite

(38:34):
core, and you also see that thetimer is ticking. It's like a
stop timer, like an egg timeralmost, getting closer and
closer to zero. It is glowing ina way you haven't seen before,
but that is what you see.
You immediately get the sensejust in the back of your minds
that if that thing hit zero,it'd be really bad. Those you

(38:55):
two stand there. What do you do?

Rowan Collins (38:59):
Have you ever seen technology like this
before?

Joe Diametti (39:02):
No. I think maybe we oh, shit. Okay.

Isaac Allen Burns (39:09):
Oh,

Joe Diametti (39:09):
gosh. Hey, buddy. How do you turn off the thing?
Okay.

Annie Hawthorne (39:17):
Red Flash is still the kids still got it.

Joe Diametti (39:20):
What? What? What'd you say?

Annie Hawthorne (39:24):
Too late for you, kids. Oh. Okay.

Rowan Collins (39:28):
I look over to the cylindrical thing. I assume
on our farm because we are amass farm producer that we have
some sorts of mechanical stuffthat we have been using, some
tractors or something like that, like a smaller form of some sort
of my key in a cold something. Can I see if I can figure out

(39:50):
how this thing works, like, justby looking at it? Or

Isaac Allen Burns (39:55):
I'm say make a knowledge roll. And I think
that you can use your experienceof family of farmers for it.

Rowan Collins (40:01):
Fantastic. Alright. That is a 15 with hope.

Isaac Allen Burns (40:13):
Kathy, do you wanna give the help action?

Joe Diametti (40:18):
You're saying that like I should?

Isaac Allen Burns (40:21):
Who's asking a question? Who's asking
question?

Joe Diametti (40:25):
No. Yes. Yes. Alright. I'm down to one hope.
Yeah. Alright. Fine.

Rowan Collins (40:31):
I gotta start helping you out. I got way more.

Joe Diametti (40:34):
I got a four.

Isaac Allen Burns (40:36):
Very good. That will succeed with hope
dropping this countdown down totwo. You look at this. You know
a little bit about technologybecause sure enough, certain
NovaSite technology has comethrough for farming equipment.
Algenabaya, the province thatyou are all in, is kind of the
breadbasket of Voldane anyways.
So you know of some farming. You're not, like, up to date

(40:58):
fully, but you've got a tractor. You've got certain technology.
The glowing go is taking you offguard because it does not look
like a glow from a light source. It looks like it's coming from
the NovaSite itself.
But as you're looking at it, youdo think that if you were to
break into this and get a littlecloser, you could probably do
something to disarm this so thatit would not go off.

Rowan Collins (41:23):
Kathy, could you break into this for me? I think
I can I this looks similarenough into the thing that I
might be able to guide you towhat we can use to turn it off?

Joe Diametti (41:32):
Okay. Are we gonna blow up?

Rowan Collins (41:34):
Not if you do exactly as they say.

Joe Diametti (41:36):
Alright. Let's do it.

Rowan Collins (41:38):
Alright. I will give help the help action for
Kapi.

Joe Diametti (41:42):
Well, hang on. Wait a minute. I got plus two
finesse.

Rowan Collins (41:44):
Yes.

Joe Diametti (41:44):
We're not even gonna need it.

Rowan Collins (41:46):
Uh-huh. Uh-huh.

Isaac Allen Burns (41:46):
You get to do finesse roll.

Rowan Collins (41:48):
Uh-huh. You

Annie Hawthorne (41:49):
gotta stop saying shit like that,

Isaac Allen Burns (41:50):
man. There you go.

Joe Diametti (41:53):
Yeah. I do. That's a 14 with fear.

Isaac Allen Burns (41:59):
14 with fear. So I'm gonna give the help,
actually.

Joe Diametti (42:02):
Actually, Pistachio, I yeah. Just some
help, please.

Isaac Allen Burns (42:06):
Alright. That

Rowan Collins (42:08):
is a three.

Isaac Allen Burns (42:10):
That is with fear and does succeed. So it is
now down to one. You start towork on it. You pull off a side
panel, and you look at there's abunch of wires on this. And you
start fiddling with some of thewires, and you feel like you're
getting somewhere.
But you have a moment where youlook and you see that the timer
is getting so dangerously close. And so as you think there's a

(42:35):
little more you need to do todisarm it because we have one
more action left. So do you takethe time to attempt to disarm
this, or do you get out? That'swhat it's gonna come down to to
you too.

Joe Diametti (42:54):
So my fear just to walk you through the process. My
fear is that it's going to blowup a lot more than just the
Adventures Guild.

Isaac Allen Burns (43:05):
Okay.

Joe Diametti (43:05):
Like, I am not so worried about the building. I
would just run away from it. ButI'm worried I don't know what
this kind of damage could do.Did we figure out anything about
that through looking at it?

Isaac Allen Burns (43:18):
From what Pistachio could tell, this thing
would explode, probably damage acouple billion. It does not seem
big enough to destroy the entiretown. Uh-huh. It's definitely
big enough that it will levelthe Adventures Guild and
everything inside it, includinganything anyone owns that is
still in the Adventures Guild.K.
Now As well as nearby buildings.

Joe Diametti (43:37):
Does our action so we only have one action left.
Right?

Isaac Allen Burns (43:42):
In this case, yes. There is one more action to
be taken before this thing goesoff.

Joe Diametti (43:46):
Okay. What do you think, kid? Not a lot of time
though. I don't it's not thatyou can't think about it. But

Rowan Collins (44:05):
I think Pistachio's thinking

Joe Diametti (44:08):
You have another hope. Right?

Rowan Collins (44:09):
I have for hope. Well, we're we're good.
Okay. Alright.

Joe Diametti (44:14):
Alright. Let's disarm this thing.

Rowan Collins (44:17):
Pistachio looks at you and goes,
there's only one thing we can do, Kapi. We gotta
disarm it.

Joe Diametti (44:25):
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

Isaac Allen Burns (44:26):
Yeah. Yeah. I I shake

Joe Diametti (44:27):
I I put out my hand to shake your your fond

Rowan Collins (44:30):
hand. Pistachio, what

Joe Diametti (44:32):
kind working with you, Adventure. And then I

Rowan Collins (44:35):
Be happy.
You're my best friend too.

Joe Diametti (44:40):
Oh. Okay. Let's

Isaac Allen Burns (44:44):
Here we go.

Joe Diametti (44:45):
What is it? A finesse still?

Isaac Allen Burns (44:47):
This is another finesse check.
Please. No. What do we have?

Joe Diametti (44:59):
It's an 11.

Annie Hawthorne (45:01):
We have some help.

Isaac Allen Burns (45:02):
Would you like to roll help? Yes. Go ahead
and roll those dice.

Joe Diametti (45:07):
I would also

Isaac Allen Burns (45:09):
A six. A six?

Rowan Collins (45:11):
A six.

Isaac Allen Burns (45:12):
Oh god. That is a 17.
Oh, with hope.

Rowan Collins (45:18):
Get your hope back. Get your hope.

Isaac Allen Burns (45:20):
That is success. Okay. You get in there.
You're working. It goes betweentwo wires.
You have a blue wire and a redwire. You have to clip one of
them to finally disarm it. Andwith shaking hands

Joe Diametti (45:35):
Kapi's color blind. He doesn't know that he's
blue. No.

Isaac Allen Burns (45:39):
The lip right there. Kapi, it's the one that
looks like your skin. Kapi. Idon't know which one looks like
my skin. On the right.
I I don't see color. My god.

Rowan Collins (45:49):
A lot, but,

Isaac Allen Burns (45:50):
like, Kathy,

Rowan Collins (45:52):
it's the one on your eyes.

Joe Diametti (45:53):
Okay. No.

Isaac Allen Burns (45:54):
A final snip.
The chicken stops. You
hear us you see our light chuckle. Enjoy it
while you can. And then the guydies. At that, you hear a
resounding voice echoing throughthe streets, the burning town of

(46:19):
Bracken Road, angry voice indistance.
Where is it? Who has it? It's not where it's
supposed to be, so I guess we'llhave to find it the hard way.
To hear Ashe's voice echoing loudly. The

(46:43):
smell of smoke is heavy in theair. The three of you have just
heard this loud voice. Pistachioas you and Kapi run out into the
streets. Kapi, you hear a shriekringing through the air.

(47:05):
Sounds like Scarlett.

Joe Diametti (47:08):
You bastard.

Isaac Allen Burns (47:25):
Hey. It's a podcast.

Rowan Collins (47:29):
It's I feel tense.
I'm tense. The evil laughter is killing me.

Isaac Allen Burns (47:36):
Y'all doing okay? We're doing okay? We're
all doing good.

Rowan Collins (47:38):
We're good. We're good.
Yeah. Totally fine. I'm having a great time.

Annie Hawthorne (47:44):
Well, we saved your parents.

Rowan Collins (47:46):
Yeah. We saved my parents. My dad is proud of me.
Aw. Never killed anybody, and I have officially
to death somebody.

Annie Hawthorne (47:54):
How are you feeling about that?

Rowan Collins (47:55):
Pistachio doesn't have time to think about

Isaac Allen Burns (47:58):
this

Rowan Collins (47:58):
right now.
