(01:03):
Wow, we got all the way to 20.
Today's episode, a little bit ofa short one, but next week we
got a couple, a three partseries.
We got some great interviewsthat we're conducting and have
conducted.
I'm very excited about those, but not to take away from my
discussion with Bree Brutton.
She's got two rescues.
Lovely time with her atRosenbart Brewery.
(01:26):
We just got to share a littletalk and, you know, it was one
I've had in the files.
Wanted to bring it up.
Thank Bree for sitting down andtalking a little bit.
Just a short little sweet foryour Friday morning.
Hope everybody loves it.
Everyone has a good day and herewe go.
(01:47):
You're going to start hearingthings in the headphones, right?
SPEAKER_01 (01:50):
Yes, sir.
You can hear everything?
I can hear things.
SPEAKER_02 (01:52):
Bree, I'm Brandon.
SPEAKER_01 (01:54):
Oh, my God.
That's my brother's name.
Come on.
Oh, my God.
That's so cute.
I love it.
SPEAKER_02 (02:00):
Yeah.
Bree, I'm going to ask you thesimple, easy things real quick.
Just state your name and whatyou do.
SPEAKER_01 (02:08):
My name is Bree.
Full name.
Oh, my full name.
My name is Bree Broughton.
I'm a QA associate for a biotechcompany.
And outside of that, I just likehanging out with my pets.
And yeah, I chill.
I like to read, make some art,and that's about it.
SPEAKER_02 (02:25):
Awesome.
So you have dogs
SPEAKER_01 (02:28):
or a dog?
I have two dogs.
Two dogs.
I got two.
All right.
I have two dogs and a cat, actually, which is amazing.
UNKNOWN (02:34):
Okay.
SPEAKER_02 (02:35):
Cat, I'm not
interested, but that's it.
I'm not against cats, but no.
I grew up with cats from thenowhere of Wisconsin, and
SPEAKER_00 (02:44):
so...
Sounds like he hates
SPEAKER_02 (02:45):
cats.
I don't.
They're outside cats.
They were just wonderful andlovely.
So your dogs, what's theirnames?
SPEAKER_01 (02:53):
So I have two dogs.
One is Kalua.
I've had her since 2008 or 9,so...
She is my, she is my, like, I'vehad her since college.
Kalua.
Kalua.
Wow.
Lou, Louie Lou, for short.
Lou, okay.
Lou, yeah, she's a sweetheart,and she's an old lady.
I think she's 15 or 16 now.
But, yeah, so I have Kalua andMiko, and Miko's a...
(03:16):
probably four or five now, buthe was a rescue from New Mexico.
SPEAKER_00 (03:19):
Okay.
SPEAKER_01 (03:20):
And they had to give
him hip surgery.
He was abused, super shy.
He's a
SPEAKER_02 (03:25):
shy boy.
So there's a lot of questionsthat go on to why he got dogs
and things like that, but whatkind of breeds are they?
First one
SPEAKER_01 (03:33):
blew up.
Honestly, both of them aremutts.
There's no specific breed.
Both of them are black andbrown, so they look like
shepherd collie mateses.
SPEAKER_02 (03:43):
It's just grooving
with the music.
We're at Gross and Bart Brewery.
That's what we do.
This is our home place,
SPEAKER_00 (03:48):
and we're just
talking dogs.
I love the music, and we'retalking dogs.
Talking dogs.
Yeah.
But, yeah, no.
SPEAKER_02 (03:52):
Just mutts.
What are they predominantly?
Do you know?
I mean,
SPEAKER_01 (03:55):
what's their looks
like?
Yeah, like, so Miko looks like aBelgian Malinois and, like,
maybe a shepherd.
He's, like, 40.
Well, he's about 40 pounds.
He's, like, black-brown.
But he just looks like a miniGerman shepherd, so it's always
been super
SPEAKER_03 (04:06):
weird.
That's
SPEAKER_01 (04:06):
awesome.
And then Kalimba.
as a German Shepherd, but shelooks like a collie, so it's
super weird.
SPEAKER_02 (04:14):
Okay.
Well, that's awesome.
And when did you get
SPEAKER_01 (04:20):
them?
So like I said, I got Kalua backin 2009, so now she's like 15 or
16, but I got her as a rescue.
Miko I got in 2019, and he wasalso a rescue, and it was
through like, I think it's likethe Good Friends project or
something.
I'll have to send you the name.
That's fine.
They're like super No, that'sawesome.
(04:42):
Amazing rescue that operates outin New Mexico.
Like, New Mexico puts a lot ofdogs down.
Okay.
A lot of dogs down.
Yeah, yeah.
It's not no-kill, you know.
Sure.
So it is what it is.
But I saw him, and he was on redalert.
And I was like, that is the dogthat I want.
Yeah.
I love him, and he deserves, like, a good home, you know.
Yeah, yeah.
So I saw him, and they helped, like, you know.
You do, like, I did the fosterto adopt thing.
(05:04):
And so fostered him, adoptedhim.
And, yeah, now he's such a goodboy now.
SPEAKER_02 (05:11):
and and what's
what's like the favorite thing
you do with your dogs
SPEAKER_01 (05:15):
oh man anything
outdoors like i just love being
outside with them you know
SPEAKER_02 (05:18):
well we've named one
well like
SPEAKER_01 (05:20):
what's what is this
right here like do you bring
them to the breweries ohabsolutely like
SPEAKER_02 (05:24):
i haven't seen him
here yet so
SPEAKER_00 (05:26):
i would have brought
him today
SPEAKER_02 (05:27):
but
SPEAKER_00 (05:27):
i was
SPEAKER_02 (05:28):
like i was in denver
and i was super busy we got we
got friends uh family here uhdancing around just supporting
her from the podcast withmustaches on
SPEAKER_00 (05:36):
these are
SPEAKER_02 (05:44):
That's, that's
awesome.
That's great.
This is a great community.
This is what we do.
And we just here at the Alpine, all we do is talk dirty as well.
Um, and we talk dogs.
Well, that's what you, I mean,you're no, it's no, it's all
good.
It's funny.
SPEAKER_01 (06:02):
Um, but yeah, I
know.
Uh, I don't know if anybody'sbeen to Westminster Hills dog
park, but best dog park.
I've been to Westminster Hillsdog park.
SPEAKER_03 (06:11):
Okay.
Where's that at?
SPEAKER_01 (06:12):
So it's in
Westminster, Colorado.
Yep, I live there.
So I think that, I can't, Idon't remember the main road,
but it's not far from Four NosesBrewery.
Yep, I know exactly where it is.
SPEAKER_02 (06:22):
287 and something.
SPEAKER_01 (06:23):
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I hit that place up onSaturdays, but it's off-leash,
and it's just like hills fordays with mountain views.
So Westminster Hills Dog Park.
It's by Stanley Lake, so...
SPEAKER_02 (06:34):
Have you ever gone
to Coot Lake here in Longmont?
UNKNOWN (06:37):
No.
SPEAKER_02 (06:37):
It's off-leash, and
it's got...
water for them to go in.
SPEAKER_00 (06:43):
Yes.
SPEAKER_02 (06:45):
And it's, it's just
down the road from here.
It's, it's probably about, youknow, door to door, 14 minutes.
Nice.
Do you live here in Longmont?
SPEAKER_01 (06:51):
No, I actually live
like closer to like Boulder,
Superior area.
Okay.
So, yeah, but I'm, I work overhere, so.
Okay.
I'm over here all the time.
SPEAKER_02 (06:59):
Oh, that's great.
Um, oh, and then we got a couplemore questions for you real
quick.
What's, uh, what, what's one oftheir like, uh, favorite tricks
that, that you've taught themthat
SPEAKER_01 (07:10):
they do?
So, Mika That's awesome.
So they're
SPEAKER_02 (07:34):
friendly dogs.
Oh, so, okay, I can't wait tomeet them here.
Oh, yeah, we'll be back.
I come here regularly.
I love the brewery here.
I know the owner and, you know, lots of other things that go on
here.
The last question that I havefor you about both your dogs,
and this is going to be atwo-part question because you
(07:55):
have two dogs.
What...
what, if they could say fivethings, five phrases, you gotta
do with each one, you gotta namethem before you say it, what
would they say?
SPEAKER_01 (08:08):
So, Miko's, like,
such a silly boy, and he's,
like, so oblivious toeverything, but he's so sweet,
so, like, one thing he wouldprobably say is just, like, Miko
smash, kind of like the Hulk.
SPEAKER_02 (08:18):
Okay, yeah, I like
SPEAKER_01 (08:19):
it, I like it.
Not in a bad way.
No, that's okay.
He, like, stomps around theyard, and Kalua, she's, like,
the old wise one, so she'dprobably say something along the
lines of something Yoda wouldsay, like, do or do not, do not,
SPEAKER_02 (08:30):
Okay, no, no, we
need five things each one of
them would say.
Five?
Five.
I thought ten.
Ten phrases would have beenawesome.
So when you look at your dog, right, dogs, and I see them and
I'm like, hey, my dog's Hazel.
She's a little blue heeler.
I was like,
SPEAKER_03 (08:48):
I love you, Dad.
SPEAKER_02 (08:50):
I was going to say,
like, number one would be, like,
I love you.
Take me out.
Things like that.
Like, that's what we want.
What would they say?
Like, and you got to go witheach one
SPEAKER_01 (08:58):
of them.
Number one.
SPEAKER_03 (09:04):
Right?
No, it's good.
It's good, good, good.
It's fun.
SPEAKER_01 (09:07):
I love you.
I love you so much, you know?
Yeah.
I love you.
With five things.
There's five.
Their personalities aredifferent, but, like, and it's
mostly, like, talking shit aboutit.
Sorry.
SPEAKER_02 (09:17):
No, it's okay.
No, no, no.
Again, we're
SPEAKER_01 (09:18):
dirty here and stuff
like that.
Yeah.
Like, I get home from work and, like, oh, my brother was so mean
to me today.
Yes.
You know, like, they have thatbanter.
Like I said, we have a cat, andall three of them just, like,
cuddle together.
So, probably, they...
You wouldn't believe what Mo didtoday.
I like Mo.
(09:40):
Yeah.
They probably have something tosay about the cat.
They love me.
They talk about each other.
Kalua's the old wise one, like Isaid.
And she would probably talk likesome Yoda wisdom.
Yeah, they're
SPEAKER_03 (09:51):
talking shit,
though.
Yeah.
That's a big
SPEAKER_01 (09:53):
thing.
Always.
Where were you today?
Where'd you go?
Who'd you see?
What's going on?
You're already gone.
SPEAKER_02 (10:04):
That's like eight
things.
Eight things each of them wouldsay.
Who
SPEAKER_01 (10:08):
you been
SPEAKER_02 (10:09):
petting?
What dog were you hanging outwith?
SPEAKER_01 (10:12):
100%.
SPEAKER_02 (10:14):
Do they get jealous?
SPEAKER_01 (10:15):
They do.
They're so pretty.
They're both pretty dogs.
SPEAKER_02 (10:19):
All right.
Well, I'm going to get yourinformation.
I want you to send some photosso we can post them on the
Instagram.
Okay.
Seriously.
Like we, so Alpine Howell is aclothing company, but we're
doing a podcast.

Um, we're, it's all handmade andwe're, we're, we're in this for
our love as humans for our petsand, and dogs specifically in
(10:40):
this case.
Uh, have nothing against cats Igrew up with them I mean
seriously yeah yeah yeah Ididn't have I didn't have indoor
cats I didn't have indoor cats Ihad outdoor cats but anyway but
thanks for sitting down talkingthis short chat you
SPEAKER_01 (10:54):

I'd love to meet them and take
some treats too.
We have Bixby.
It's a local company here inColorado.
Some of our friends work forthem.

SPEAKER_01 (11:22):
that.

SPEAKER_01 (11:26):

SPEAKER_02 (11:26):
a good night.
You too.
Thanks again for sitting downwith me, Bree, and Gross and
Bart Brewery for hosting us.
It's always good to talk withpeople about dogs and short or
long it doesn't matter we'rejust here to talk about dogs
next week's episodes i sayepisodes in the following weeks
(11:49):
we're gonna have a probably athree-part series we sat down
with mo mutts her name is mo anduh she's from alaska and runs
this great uh dog company sheactually converted a bus to uh
Put her dogs on it.
Safely straps them in.
Goes around Saskatchewan,Alaska.
(12:14):
She trains dogs and also walksdogs.
It's great.
I won't give anything else away.
She's got tons of followers onsocial media.
Great name.
Got some great interviews comingup.
A lot of good excitement here.
We're winding her down on Season3.
(12:35):
We'll be hitting into Season 4with, again, a lot of great,
great conversations.
But to the reviews, I wanted tobring it back around.
I missed a couple weeks becauseI was working on this.
Trixie Strategy Game Turnaround.
This is the little...
(12:56):
canisters that hold food, wherethe dogs push them with their
paw or their nose to flip themaround and let the treats fall
out.
Now, I gave about a month, it'sbeen longer, to try and see if
my dogs would, if I could trainthem to do it.
Blue Heeler, wonderful.
I think she barks at it a littlebit, but if I bring it around
(13:19):
every couple days, she seems toremember, but if it's every day,
she definitely gets it and she'sinto it.
uh the pit bull he is stillstruggling a little bit he barks
at it i've been trying i think ipaid attention more to the blue
healer because i i'll admit thatthe success story was probably
(13:42):
going to be better but she'salso got a little bit more you
know brain power in that levelbut i'm going to bring i'm going
to keep working on it with thedogs and again great product you
know The only thing is that Ithink it's a little small.
The dimensions are 8.7, 7.1 by13.
It's...
(14:07):
If it was a little bit bigger, like a wider stance, I think it
wouldn't be so claustrophobicfor the dog to just tunnel
vision in on.
That's just my opinion.
Again, the Heeler does it.
Very cool.
I think it's a great product fora dog that can focus in on it.
(14:29):
I'm sure there's a lot of smartdogs out there, Border Collies,
other dogs that could figure itout, but Again, I just think
maybe a little bit wider stancewould have made it better.
Giving it a 4 out of 5.
And I'm going to keep comingback and reviewing for it.
It's great.
It's still working great.
I don't know if it would fit inthe dishwasher or not, but I
(14:53):
just hand washed everything.
So thank you.
I just wanted to bring that backaround because I know I've been
slacking on that.
Another...
toy i'm going to start on andthis one i'm just going to work
specifically with the bluehealer i just don't think my
pity has it in them to figurethis out uh but it's called
talking pet starter set it's abunch of buttons uh to play uh
(15:19):
or recordable buttons uh and ithas a guide uh by christina
hunger and it's to get our dogsto communicate uh i'm not sure
the whole level of it but i'mgoing to start doing that this
weekend and i'll give weeklyupdates on what's going on with
(15:40):
it and progression of the theproduct meaning opening it up
and going through how thestarter set works i'm going to
post the link to their websiteon uh in the show notes so
people can look at it andunderstand what i'm going
through and then each week i'lli'll repost it and maybe even uh
(16:04):
maybe even i will put a pictureof the dog and what it's doing
uh and and uh just keep keep itgoing because i'm just trying
different things and iappreciate uh everyone bearing
with me with my time frames andthank you for listening and
always remember to pet them dogshave a good weekend until next
