O esmegma é uma secreção natural do pênis. Trata-se de uma substância branca e de textura oleosa que pode se acumular sobre o prepúcio e deve ser limpada corretamente. Alguns problemas, como a fimose, por exemplo, tornam o processo de higienização da glande mais dificultoso.
Se o esmegma não for limpo corretamente, cria-se um ambiente propício para a proliferação de fungos, vírus e bactérias, que consequentemente podem causar doenças e infecções perigosas, como o câncer no pênis, em casos extremos.
