series called Survive or Thrive.
We know moms are extra busyduring the summer, so we're
bringing you shorter, bite-sizedepisodes focused on one hot

It is summer, summer, summertime, okay, and we are going to
change up this podcast.
We want to let you ladies knowfor the summer and we are going
to be making shorter, sort oflike bite-sized episodes this
summer, talking about one topicin particular and all the things

about that topic.
Now, these topics are thingsthat midlife women, moms, will
experience specifically duringthe summer, and when you're
listening to this episode, wewant to know if, with the topic,
if you thrive with this topicin the summertime, or you're
just surviving, and that's whatwe're going to talk about at the
end.
Yeah, I find most of my summersI've been in survival mode.

When they were younger, I putthem in a lot of summer camp,
like the day camps, and theyloved it.
But as they got older, theywanted to do it less and less,
and so, you know, during thosetimes it's been a little bit
more survival mode.
But now that my kids are alittle bit older, it's a little
bit more enjoyable and theysleep in, and so that's where

I'm at.

I'm the same way.
We travel a lot during thesummertime, but I think it's
switching that mindset right nowof not overbooking them,
because my kids are always likeOK, mom, just chill, we want to
chill, like we don't need tohave a whole schedule, but we
still have that need to be likewell, we need to get outside, we
need to go to the pool, we needto do this and that you know.

So I think it's just aninteresting time and that's what
we're going to talk about thissummer, all these interesting
times, right?
Yes, exactly, I think I thinkwe should touch on the summer
bucket list, you know, becausethat could produce, I feel like,
angst for some of our ladieshere.
Or it could be like give me asummer bucket list, give me the

I love that idea.

I used to Same thing when mykids were little, but I like to
still do it.
I just do it in a different way.

I mean it's not like alaminated Pinterest, you know
list type of thing.
But I do ask my kids what arethe three things that you want
to do this summer, and itdoesn't have to be an
extravagant thing, right?
A couple of my kids will say Iwant to go to the local ice
cream shop here which is called,like, dairy Joy.
I think the expectations thereare no expectations.

Actually, Like our kids havethe best summer ever.
I want to be our kids, so I domake it.
I mean, I may put it on apost-it this year and put it on
the fridge, but that's good.
I love post-its.
Yeah, I love that idea.
I actually have a friend thatused to do the Pinterest summer
bucket list where she wouldcreate her own.
She would do it with her familyand she would take it to a

place like Kinko's and it wasprobably like 36 by 54.
I don't know, no exaggeration,it was huge and it was colorful
and I believe it was laminatedso they could check it off and
write things on it, and that wasmy like, what I thought my goal
was when I had younger kids.
But you know, I also don't havekids that want to be on the go

either, like go, go, go.
So they do, they want theirdowntime, but I do ask them too,
and so we do have three things,and only three things.
Like they come up with a couplethings and then we all have to
agree on because, honestly,their personalities are so
different.
And I also noticed that, lookingat if my kids are more
introverted versus extroverted,that really, really makes a lot

of sense for us, because my oneson he wants to go to like every
single festival, he wants to doeverything like like carnivals
and this and the other one Notthat he hates it, but that's not
what he wants to do all thetime, like he wants to have like
quiet heights and and so Ireally have to be mindful of
everyone's personality andwhat's their capacity like, even

the day of.
Okay, I can guess who thosekids are.
You bring Eris to my house andI will keep him busy.
We have similar littles.
Oh, that is a great idea.
We have similar littles.
It's like you know what a goodidea would be, nicole, is to
have our sort of mom midlifebucket list and then our family

bucket list.
Right, because there are thingsthat, as as you know, midlife
women and moms that we want tomaintain.
Almost.
It's almost like a bucket listto maintain over the summertime,
because whether you work insideor outside the home Right you
still want to have taken care ofyourself a little bit too.
So there are definitely thingsthat I want to do as well.

(05:12):
So I think the summer bucketlist is a great idea.
It's in a different capacity atthis point of our life, but I
do love your friend thatlaminates her bucket list.
I need to be friends with her.
I really love that idea of likejust maintaining like.
I don't know that anythingreally needs to be new on my
bucket list, maybe some travel,but I really want to maintain
like my morning routine ritualand walking.

(05:35):
So I got back into like 10,000steps a day and that's what I
want to maintain.
So I know like it doesn't haveto be over the top or like super
fun, but to me you just likenailed it for me.
Oh good, check, check.
I just like to put down someideas of things that you can do
just in the summertime.
That's the way I sort of view abucket list right, it is going

(05:55):
like berry picking.
It is going to that certain icecream shop.
You know the things, really theoutdoor, sunny things that you
have access to in the summermonths, as opposed to not all
year long.
You know, I won't necessarilyput go to the Museum of Science
on my bucket list, because I cando that in the middle of
December.
It may be good for thoseintroverted people that don't

(06:17):
like the sun, though that istrue, you are more thoughtful
with your kids.
I'm like guys, this is whatwe're doing.
No, I don't even mean for myfamily, just like people in
general.
I was like doing a littleresearch and a lot of.
There was like some breakdownswith like introverted versus
extroverted, so it really makesme look at things a little
differently.
I did take Megan Sumrall'sMaster, your Morning masterclass

and she talked about differentpersonality types in the morning
.
So it really kind of likeopened my eyes to different
types of activities and thingsfor your family, though I like
that.
You know what You're making methink about.
The morning with my boys.
I think on the bucket list Ineed to be like wake up before
10 am.
Your kids may be like, you know, the thriver, survive, smash or

pass.
We'll be like, pass, they'regoing to pass that one.
But I do feel like I do want totake advantage of the days.
You know my kids would wake upat 9 or 10 and then go to bed at
1 in the morning, where youknow it's just a little bit
different.
I do want to take advantage,have that good balance between
the chilling out which we knowthe boys love and girls love,
but also, you know, doing thingstogether.

And I like your idea of makingit simple.
It doesn't have to be someextravagant trip or some you
know extravagant excursion, sortof what everyone enjoys and
taking advantage of where youare right and what is around you
, where you live.
Yes, 100%, I agree with you,all right.

I just put out a summer, aseasonal summer guide called

On my Instagram that has asummer bucket list that has to
do with family dinner.
So I view the bucket list asmore of like, sort of like goal

setting and just sort of funthings and the pressure not
having the pressure, like wesaid when you were younger, but
putting on the couple.
Doable things, not like ahundred, you know a hundred
things just put on a couple andalso bring your family in on it.
Bring your spouse, bring yourkiddos you know, if you spend
summers with grandparents, bringthem along and get everyone.

I feel like when you buy in it,just it makes it more fun and
it's like they'll be proud tolike oh, we went to that certain
beach that we love or we gotsea glass or you know whatever
is on it.
So, 100 percent thriving with abucket list, make it.
I encourage you to do it.
Have fun with it.

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered.
