decide if you're just getting byor truly thriving this summer.
(00:23):
Alex hi, how are you?
Hey, how are you?
I'm good, I am good, I amthriving.
So far this summer.
That's good.
It just started, though.
It just started.
I feel like the end of schoolwas so crazy that I'm just
starting to feel like it'ssummer, which is always a good
(00:44):
thing, you know.
Yes, yes, I hope you get tolike that place of Zen and
relaxation, because you hadquite the doozy of a month.
Me too.
Your May-Sember leaked intoJune.
I think I called it.
I was telling a friend, nicole,it was June-Sember too.
I think I need to remember thisfor next year too.
I think I need to remember thisfor next year.
(01:04):
We lessons learned, lots ofbusyness, all good stuff.
What is in your cup today?
Okay, I am so excited to sharethis with you because, one, it
is way outside my box and, two,it is something that you have
recommended.
I made it and I haven't had anyof it to drink yet.
So I'm going to show you.
(01:25):
Do you recognize it?
Maybe it's hard to see, butit's a water with chia seeds and
lemon and I put a littlesprinkle of Himalayan salt, so
pink salt.
Okay, this is big for you.
It is big.
This is like live trying of it,live taste testing.
I know I brought a straw so notto be gross, but it does look a
(01:49):
little bit like bird poop.
But I'm open-minded.
Okay, try it.
Try it, see if you like it.
It's good for you.
Lots of good fiber.
Be ready, be ready.
It's not bad.
It's definitely acquired anacquired taste.
I would have to say Do you putlemon in yours?
It's definitely acquired anacquired taste.
I would have to say Do you putlemon in yours?
I do.
(02:10):
If you don't like chia seeds, Imean, obviously you can't drink
it, but there's also somethingcalled basil seeds, which my
friend in Chicago told me aboutthat.
Don't get as like gelatinous, you know.
Then chia seeds get really likethe bubble tea.
But I like that drink to startyour day out.
It keeps you regular.
I just think it feels good.
There's fiber, there's protein.
I just think it's a good way tostart your day.
(02:30):
Yeah, do you just put onetablespoon of chia seeds?
Well, you work up to more, nicole.
You work up to more.
Oh, okay, you work up to liketwo tablespoons.
I started with one teaspoon andthen did two tablespoons at the
end.
So it takes a while for yourbody to get used to and I
definitely recommend working upto that for sure.
(02:50):
What's in your cup, alex?
Ooh, I'm excited about what'sin my cup because it has to do
with our topic today aboutskincare.
It is some watermelon collagenpowdered collagen that you put
in your water from Hue and Grace.
It is so good and watermelon islike the perfect summer flavor.
So I put some in my Stanley andI love it, because I do put
(03:14):
collagen in my coffee too.
But I like how it can also be acold drink and this tastes
really, really good.
It's like a like lighter thanlike a crystal light, you know,
like it just adds some flavor toyour water.
Again, it helps you drink yourwater.
So is it sweet?
Yes, and it's good for my skin.
It's not too sweet.
I feel like you would like it.
I'll link it below.
(03:34):
We'll link it below, all, right.
So enough of our drinks.
We just went on like a fiveminute tangent about drinks,
okay, yes, uh, we have to reallytalk about our topics, since,
since these episodes are fast,we are not used to this yes,
okay.
So skincare we are talkingabout summer skincare for us
midlife ladies, and for those ofyou that don't know, I was a
(03:58):
makeup artist and I worked forseveral years with Bobby Brown
and Mac and Laura Mercier, andwe were trained across all
skincare lines, and so I feellike I have a really good
knowledge base.
And I know, alex, you have somequestions.
I don't know if you want to askme or if I should just jump in.
I'll ask.
I'll ask because I know nothingabout skincare.
(04:20):
So when I think of skincare, nicole, in the summertime, I do
think of like SPF, right, Ithink of skincare Nicole in the
summertime, I do think of likeSPF, right?
I think so.
Do you have?
I feel like, as we are ladiesin midlife, spf is, like, so
important.
And you're wearing a sun shirt,we wear the hat, we wear the
sunglasses.
I see this more and more withmyself and our friends.
So do you have a favoritesunblock for midlife ladies, oh
(04:43):
geez.
I personally love Elta MD.
I love it because you can getit in the typical.
You know it comes out clear orthey do have a tinted, which is
it's very sheer coverage, but itjust kind of evens you out a
little bit.
I also like for, like, a poolday or a beach day.
I like Super Goop.
(05:03):
That is one of my favorites, myfavorite.
Hands down.
We get those big bottles thatyou have to pump the pumps one.
We even bring that to Colorado, you know, because my husband
and my family, my kiddos, areall very fair skin.
Yes.
So here's a tip I like to buy acouple of them, especially in
the summer, but I like to keepthem in the shower for myself,
(05:24):
especially because as soon as Iget out of the shower I always
moisturize.
But my first step will be to usethe skincare all over.
That way it's just kind of likedone.
Obviously you have to reapply, but if you just do it right
after the shower, like somethingyou don't even have to think
about and it absorbs prettyquickly and it's not super thick
or tacky.
So wait, so you put sunblockall over your body.
(05:46):
Yeah, like if I know I'm goingto be wearing shorts or short
sleeve shirt.
Yeah, I just don't put it on myface.
I mean this, this is a yeah,this is a habit that I that I
got into once I moved toColorado.
So my skincare habits have likeskyrocketed since moving here.
People told me they're like, when you're here, just leave
sunblock in your car, in yourpurse, you know, whatever little
(06:09):
pocket you have.
It's kind of like the chapstick, but here, here, it's sunblock.
So I have different types ofsunblock all over my, my, my
house and my car and differentformulas.
Like in my car, I use the.
It's like a mineral powder.
So I know Supergoop has one andI really like the one from
Tarte.
So it's just in a littlehandheld thing and then you push
(06:30):
the bottom, there's a buttonand it comes through the
bristles and I'll put it on myhands, because when you're
driving, your hands are justconstantly in the sun.
So, yeah, and you know, fortouching up throughout the day,
right, it's important to reapply, especially if we're going to
be like on the beach, or my kidsalways don't think they have to
reapply In the summertime.
I would think we don't need asmuch hydration, right, because
(06:54):
it's summertime.
Is that the wrong way to thinkabout it.
Like, how should skincare bedifferent from the winter time?
I mean, whether you live inColorado or Boston or Florida?
Like what should our ourroutine be with our serums or
our lotions?
You know, comparatively?
Should it change?
Well, let's.
If you just look at your ownpersonal skincare, that's going
to dictate how you are going tochoose your products.
(07:17):
So for me, when I lived inMichigan, it was very humid, so
it was very oily.
I would choose an oil-freebased moisturizer.
So I think one of the biggestmisconceptions is that you don't
need a lot in the summertime, but actually the sun isn't very
drying.
I mean, have you ever gotten asunburn and your skin almost
feels chapped?
(07:38):
Yes, yes, oh, that's a goodpoint.
So I would continue to make surethat you use, first and
foremost, an SPF and then, secondly, make sure you're using
a moisturizer that's best foryour skin.
And if you don't know what kindof skin you are, you can talk
to anybody at like a cosmeticcounter or your esthetician and
they can.
They can help guide you to findout if you're dry and there's
(08:00):
like different types of dry.
There's like the dry, crackedskin, and then there's like
flaky dry, and so you know, there's just different things,
but just make sure that you'rewearing a moisturizer.
I know a lot of women when Iworked in cosmetics just didn't
like the feeling of heavyskincare during the summer.
So that's just also somethingto consider.
(08:22):
If you use, like, a vitamin Cserum, that would be great in
the summer because that helpstarget like fine lines, wrinkles
and dark spots, and so andthat's the one thing about the
sun is that it does give you, itdoes give you those little
freckly dark spots, and so theusing a vitamin C serum will
(08:42):
help diminish the darkness.
So that will it's likecounteracting continue to put
your serum, your serum and thenlotion, yeah, okay, okay, that's
what I normally do, right, butif you, you know, if you're oily
, you might want to skip yourlike a face oil or eye cream.
It just, it really just depends.
But I would stick to the basicsSPF, vitamin C and moisturizer.
(09:06):
And then, at night, if you wantto slather it all on, cause
you'd feel extra dry or or not,you know, just, it's kind of
more personal preference, but Iwouldn't stop moisturizing or
using SPF, okay, cause thatwould be what I would think is
like oh, I don't need my likemoisturizer at night in the in
the in the summertime, but I seeI can understand that's a
(09:27):
really good like basic pointthat the sun is drying.
Don't forget that right, drinkyour water.
You still need a good skincareroutine, especially cause you're
going to be in the sun a lot, right, drink extra, extra water.
You know, wear the hat, uselike a self-tanner, like if
you're wearing the hats and theSPF and like your face starts
(09:47):
getting lighter than your bodyor you know, you just don't want
to be in the sun but you want alittle glow use.
You know, I'm trying to thinkof what I use.
What are those little dropperscalled?
I was going to say what's yourfavorite self-tanner.
We're going to get a questionabout what's your favorite
self-tanner because I think,like I think everyone looks
better with a little sun.
Yes, right, I love.
(10:08):
I think it's called Lux.
I'm like drawing a blank, yeah,yeah.
So I used two little drops theother day and Jerry was like oh,
you look so dark.
Oh, really, yeah, becausenormally I can use like three or
four, but I just used two, butmaybe it just came out larger
than it typically does.
(10:29):
And then I do like Clarins.
And then my all-time favoritefavorite is Sicily.
Sicilia I don't know if I'msaying it right, but that price
point is really high.
Clarins is probably like on thelower end and then Lux is right
in the middle, but those are mytop three, top three favorite.
Do you ever use those bronzingdrops?
(10:50):
You know what?
Every time I go to buy it, it'ssold out.
My friend Olivia is obsessedwith it.
Oh my gosh.
And so sometimes I love it.
I love it too.
Yeah, okay, I have to get it.
It just washes off right, youjust mix it with your foundation
and it gives a little glow.
Yeah, oh, okay, yeah.
And when I was in Vegas, Inoticed I went to Sephora
because I don't normally gothere and they have like a blush
(11:14):
bronzer drops too that arereally really pretty.
It's almost like that, charlotte Tisbury, you know that
glow that you put.
Well, I don't know what thatspot is called.
If you want the T-zone thatT-zone, I don't know they have
some really good stuff.
I know a lot of the liketeenagers like it, but I
definitely I have those.
(11:36):
So I recommend that for likequick and easy.
Yeah, I'm definitely going tohave to try it.
I'll wait till the next Sephorasale.
But yeah, that's basically it.
Just, you know, stick to your, stick to similar routines and
just make sure that you'rewearing an SPF so you can thrive
in the summertime.
So you, you're saying you'rethriving with SPF or with
skincare in the summertime.
Yes, my skin is thriving, youknow your skin is thriving.
(11:57):
Okay, my skin is not thriving, but I would say I want to thrive
.
So this is aspirational for me.
So I love the tips that yousaid and I'm going to actually
just even think about the waythat I treat my skin in the
summertime a little bit more.
So I hope you ladies out theredo too, so that your skin is
nice and glowing and protectyourself, I think too.
But let's thrive, nicole, withour skincare this summer.
