that we play on.
Don't make it weird.
Um, you're welcome to join inand play along responsibly, of
course.
Um, it's on you if you decideto play.
Okay, it gets pretty wild inhere don't be responsible, don't
do that we have a rule calledbuffalo around here.
Everyone has to drink with theiroff hand.
We're all right handed, whichmeans we all drink with our left
(12:12):
hand.
If you catch any of us drinkingwith our right hand, shout out
buffalo in the chat or we willyell buffalo at each other,
although it almost never happensbecause we just don't pay
attention.
Um, also, if you hear a buzzerlike this, that means someone
has said one of our fancybuzzwords or phrases and it
triggers a drink.
Now about the special gametonight.
(12:35):
We wanted to get you guys inthe audience a little more
involved with the games.
So, um, we need you to beeagle-eyed tonight, not just for
Buffalo, but for sneak attack, because if you saw us with Uncle
Bobbo, I don't know 20 or 30episodes ago, we played a game
called sneak attack whereeveryone had a secret thing.
Speaker 4 (12:55):
Oh, did Daniel just
do a shot?
I'm very sorry.

I didn't know why he
was gagging on.
Speaker 4 (13:01):
I was like that's
disgusting Okay, go ahead.
Speaker 2 (13:03):
That was weird.
Um, that wasn't part of thegame.
We've adapted sneak attack tothe live show here, which means
I'm going to give daniel anddina um secret tasks.
They have to perform throughoutthe night and you, the audience
, have to call it out if youthink they're doing their secret
task.
And if you call it, you'reentered to win a hard cover

7 am usual morning.
Speaker 2 (25:52):
Okay, okay, you guys,
we're gonna, we're gonna have a
game segment.
It's called discern the emojiare you saying darling?
Speaker 4 (26:02):
because mckay says
darling all the time in discern
the emoji.
Speaker 2 (26:06):
Each player takes
turns reenacting an emoji sent
privately to them, withoutspeaking or using props.
The other player I'm referringto Dina and Daniel will then try
to guess which emoji is beingacted out.
The player who guesses theemoji correctly first earns a
point.
There's one little caveat herethe emoji correctly first earns
(26:26):
a point.
There's one little caveat hereeach of them get what's called
the discerner's touch that theycan use one time during the game
.
That will give them theopportunity to ask a question of
the person reenacting the emojito kind of get a better
understanding of what they'retrying to act out.
And that can only be used once.
So use it wisely, you two allright, I'm excited.
Speaker 1 (26:44):
Uh, you might need to
check the chat real quick bud
why am I checking the chat?
Speaker 4 (26:49):
somebody guessed his
thing, I think.
I assume thank god oh, rebeccathank you she's.
Speaker 2 (26:56):
The eagle eye is
daniel's thing calling dina
darling?
Speaker 3 (26:58):
yes, it is and that
is a reference to.
Speaker 2 (27:03):
Dina's book Something
Special.
Speaker 4 (27:07):
Okay, who wants to go
first?
Who wants to act first?
I do.
Speaker 2 (27:11):
Okay, Dina's going
first.
Dina, can I go?
Speaker 4 (27:14):
first.
So is that door.
Speaker 1 (27:18):
Yeah, actually, dina,
can you go first?
Speaker 4 (27:20):
No.
Speaker 2 (27:21):
Okay, dina, your
first emoji is in your DMs.
Speaker 4 (27:26):
Ew, let's see what
you got.
Okay, and I just have to act itout right, yeah, no words, just
emotions.
Speaker 1 (27:31):
No words just
emotions, fuck.
Yes.
Speaker 3 (27:35):
Oh, I'm doing it.
Speaker 2 (27:37):
She's doing it right
now.
Speaker 1 (27:39):
Completing emoji.
You know, here's the problemwith this game, Sean.
Speaker 2 (27:46):
I don't actually know
what the emojis names are
called.
Speaker 1 (27:48):
Yeah, but you can
describe it okay.
Uh, it's like the halo, likeit's got the halo around it and
it's like looking innocent andshit like yeah, no, can, I can I
do daniel, would you like totake the l on this one, or do
you want to use your one timeper game advantage?
The discerners touch no, it'stoo early.
(28:11):
It's too early.
I'm gonna take the L on thisone.
Speaker 2 (28:18):
Shannon, do you want
to tell the people what it was?
Speaker 3 (28:20):
oh.
Speaker 2 (28:20):
Shannon got it right.
You guys thank you.
Speaker 1 (28:23):
Oh, Shannon got it
right.
You guys, Thank you.
Oh, it was hard eyes.
Speaker 4 (28:30):
Because you're going
like this, but it looks like
you're going like this.
That's what you mean in love.
Speaker 1 (28:33):
Oh, you're so bad at
eye flirting I don't know how
you would have survived the cold, Dina.
Speaker 4 (28:38):
Because, okay,
because eye babies is not like,
it's sensual and I don't want tobe sensual with you.
Speaker 1 (28:48):
Dina darling please.
Speaker 2 (28:50):
Oh, I need to give
you a new thing.
Hold on, hold on Pause.
I need to give Daniel his nexttask.
Darling is over.
You can stop with that nowbefore she kills you.
Speaker 1 (28:59):
I had to do it one
more time.
Speaker 2 (29:03):
Also, you guys
remember that you can like throw
in red herrings.
So the audience what it is soeasily.
And so, daniel, there's a newsecret task.
I don't know, just that was anew secret task for uh sneak
attack and here I'm sending youyour emoji for dina to discern
(29:26):
all right, I'm ready.
Speaker 1 (29:27):
I'm ready.
The day is mine.
Where is that?
Speaker 4 (29:34):
oh, oh, cowboy hat
the shocked emoji with the with
the blue.
Oh the mind blown the brainblown, she got it it's hard to
be such a experience.
Speaker 1 (29:54):
People just don't get
it.
They don't get how talented Iam.
Speaker 2 (29:57):
It's unbelievable
okay, that's one point to Dina.
How many points to Daniel?
Remind me zero, yeah, zero, that's right.
Speaker 1 (30:06):
I feel like a winner
for how great I did.
Speaker 2 (30:10):
Okay, dina, I am
sending you your next emoji.
Speaker 3 (30:15):
Okay, emoji.
Speaker 1 (30:19):
Dina's hair looks
really nice today.
I feel like we haven'tcommented on that and we should.
Speaker 2 (30:23):
Is Dina's thing
singing disney songs?
Speaker 1 (30:25):
yes, it is shannon I
was just really excited to be
singing disney songs.
That was a part of it all right, good job, shannon.
Speaker 2 (30:36):
So becky has two
entries, shannon has one, and
now I need to get dina her nextsecret task, which I didn't
prepare.
Speaker 1 (30:43):
Many of these I
totally underestimated how
quickly people would go throughthese.
Sean, can you just look at mereal quick?
Can we do eye babies real quick, can we please?
Speaker 3 (30:53):
God damn it.
Speaker 4 (30:54):
I need my eye condoms
.
Speaker 3 (31:02):
Oh.
Speaker 2 (31:02):
Corley, we already
checked voicemail for our
voicemail segment.
This time did you send onetoday.
Speaker 1 (31:11):
I can just bring my
mom downstairs, so we can just
have my mom just come and say hito Dina at some point now has
her new emoji and her new secrettask.
Okay, that's just your face.
Has her new emoji and her newsecret task.
Okay, that's just your face, dina, that's not an emoji,
that's just literally your face.
Speaker 2 (31:32):
That's because I'm
constantly doing this, daniel is
not a discerner, y'all.
Speaker 1 (31:40):
That's just your face
.
I don't see anything different.
Okay, hold on it.
Do it again, dina.
Okay, so it's like an eyebrowraise, like it's like uh, I, I
don't jesus you're an authorright yeah, I am.
Uh, if it's a smirk, I swear tofucking god I will.
I will end this right now.
(32:02):
I will fucking end this rightnow if that's a smirk.
Emoji he got it.
That's a point for Daniel.
God damn it.
I hate that word so much.
Speaker 2 (32:14):
That was the smirk
Daniel's favorite word from the
English language.
Everybody.
Speaker 4 (32:20):
What's up?
Speaker 2 (32:24):
Okay, daniel, we'll
do this a couple more times,
okay, daniel hey, can I ask aquestion you?
Have your next one.
Wait, wait, before you do it,dina what's a mukbang?
That's when someone eats waytoo much food in a sloppy manner
and people watch it oh, like asex thing, I mean, it depends on
who you ask it's not.
(32:44):
It's not like explicitly a sexthing.
I mean it depends on who youask.
It's not.
It's not like explicitly a sexthing, but I can see how people
would be into that in a kinkyway.
Speaker 4 (32:52):
I can see why Dina
would not be into that, but yeah
, that's fine.
Speaker 1 (32:57):
Daniel, you have Dina
can we pay attention please?
Alright, you ready, hold on mymom's.
My mom's coming down here, solet me do the emoji and then
we're my mom on.
Speaker 2 (33:04):
Oh my god, we're my
mom on oh my god, we're firing
through these way too quick,becky.
Speaker 4 (33:10):
The people know it
Fuck.
Speaker 1 (33:12):
Becky already got the
accent.
Speaker 2 (33:17):
And now my sound's
just died.
What's going on here?
Speaker 1 (33:20):
Oh no, the sound's
just died, all right.
Speaker 2 (33:22):
Well, can I at least
do my emoji first?
Well, this wouldn't happen, yeah, oh no, the sound's just
died.
Can I at least do my emojifirst?
Speaker 1 (33:26):
Yeah, do your emoji,
alright.
Speaker 4 (33:31):
Oh, I wasn't looking
at you.
The startled face.
The startled face, like withthe big eyes.
Are you trying to move youreyebrows right now, like it's
(33:54):
gotta be scared?
Are you scared?
That's fear.
Five head Blowing out of themouth.
Another one, um, uh, blowing, blowing out of the mouth.
Another one stressing I don'tknow, I can, I can I use the
(34:16):
discerner's touch from theaudience you want the
discerner's touch.
Speaker 2 (34:22):
So that means you get
to ask daniel a question that
will give you a better idea ofwhat he's trying to do.
Speaker 1 (34:29):
That's not okay, mom.
It's universally known, but Istill had to hear you singing
those lyrics, mom.
Okay, my mom was singing touchme, the rock horror picture show
and I can't unhear that.
Now, guys, I can't, I can'tunhear that dino thoroughly
(34:50):
enjoyed that moment.
Speaker 4 (34:51):
Um yeah, daniel right
.
Um yeah, are you?
Speaker 1 (34:58):
ask your question.
Speaker 4 (35:00):
Oh, I don't.
I don't know how to ask aquestion about this.
Speaker 2 (35:03):
I just realized that
um you can't ask what it is
obviously right, so what wouldhelp?
So are you thinking about, thinking about the time you can
ask him like yeah, what wouldmake you react this way, or
something like that oh, I'll,I'll steal that one.
Speaker 4 (35:20):
What would make you
react with this emoji?
Speaker 1 (35:24):
Shitting my pants in
public.
Speaker 4 (35:27):
So you're the
embarrassed face.
Speaker 3 (35:31):

Speaker 2 (35:33):
Embarrassed face.
Speaker 1 (35:36):

really, the scouts is almost thesame uh oh shit, I'm sorry,
heather.
Speaker 2 (45:43):
Heather actually
guessed the dina's taking calls

That's my fault.
I will give you both an entryfor that, because I I fucked up
this game is hard it's hard tokeep track you guys.
It really, really is it's, it'sfucking hard.
Speaker 1 (45:59):

Speaker 1 (46:02):
Scall.
Speaker 4 (46:02):
Scall, scall, scall,
scall, scall, scall, scall,

scall, scall, scall, scall, scall, scall, scall, scall.
Speaker 2 (46:08):
Scall, scall.
Speaker 1 (46:29):
Scall, scall.
Go on and do it.
Speaker 3 (46:34):
Yeah, I can't do.
Speaker 1 (46:35):
That was shrek, but
close that was basically the
same same.
All right, uh, dina, do youhave a tissue or a neckerchief
handy?
Speaker 2 (46:49):
per chance.
Oh wait, it's that guy'sdaughter's birthday, remember.

Speaker 4 (47:15):
hey, oh my god, we
can give him two minutes.
Speaker 1 (47:20):
Yeah, we can do that.
Speaker 4 (47:22):
That's amazing, um
yeah are we doing the cha-cha or
are we doing?
Speaker 2 (47:27):
we should do just a
regular happy birthday okay,
making sure and make suredaniel's so frustrated right now
because he's delayed still andhe can't get a word in edgewise
it's so amazing.
Speaker 4 (47:40):
It's the best night

Happy birthday, happy birthdayHappy birthday, dear goat.
Speaker 3 (48:08):

Speaker 2 (48:18):
Better than it did
just now in my headset For you
guys at home.
Oh my goodness, happy birthdayand goodnight.
Golden is your birthday, happybirthday that's great.
Speaker 1 (48:31):
Yeah, that was good.
Um, but can we go back to dinacrying for us on camera?
Dina crying for us, can you?
Because?
Because she needs a neckerchief, because it is time for deeply
personal, hard-hitting questionsas we peel back the layers of
the potato with Dina.
Source Dina.
First question If you could adda word to the dictionary and
(48:56):
you get to add what it means, what would that word be and what
would it mean?
Speaker 4 (49:02):
Dacklesphere.
Speaker 1 (49:04):
Dacklesphere.
What does d dackel sphere mean?
Speaker 4 (49:07):
it's just an alien
planet that I came up with okay,
the dackel sphere, that's alienplanets.
Speaker 1 (49:14):
I'm in for it.
I'm yeah.
No, I love it.
Speaker 2 (49:15):
That's a great
question, sean um dina, if a
jedi were constipated, wouldthey just use the force to pull
the poop out?
Speaker 4 (49:25):
uh, yes, absolutely.
I don't really know how theforce works, but I think that
they could definitely surroundsus.
Speaker 1 (49:33):
Yeah, but I but like
do they have to see the object?
Speaker 4 (49:37):
it penetrates your
gut, they could get a mirror and
like do one to see the objectsone foot on the toilet, just
force it out let's say, I don'tknow.
Speaker 1 (49:50):
I actually don't know
either, but I really like the
idea of them having to see theobject that they're manipulating
yeah, but like think about likethis, for, like dark side users
, they could force choke theirown colon in order to get the
poop out like when you'regetting a sausage out of a bag
like squeezing out of jimmydean's into the pan.
Speaker 4 (50:11):
Yeah I don't think
the poop is a part of you once
your body processes all of thenutrients that it needs right
it's just like a parasite, basically, so it would
differentiate, for sure.
Speaker 2 (50:24):
Aw, she said.
Matthew said she cried, sheloved it so much.
Speaker 4 (50:27):
I love making
children cry, oh God.
Speaker 1 (50:30):
Dina, that's what we
do here on the Domated Weird
Podcast.
Dina, if you could swap thelegs from one animal to a
different animal, what would thetwo animals be that you would
have swap legs?
Speaker 4 (50:47):
Owl and goat.
Oh God, can you imagine an owlwith goat legs, bro?
Speaker 1 (50:56):
Yeah, that'd be
satanic shit.
That's how fucking like Are wetalking about hind legs?
Speaker 2 (51:01):
And we're talking
about just legs, so it's like
fully the owl body and then likethe legs only are replaced with
goat legs yeah it's not like, and then the bottom half of the
animal is goat and then the tophalf is his owl it's just the
legs that is an unholyabomination gonna be found in
(51:21):
peter sean tyrell's next bookincredible yeah, sean, what do
you got?
buddy, I'm.
I had no idea that dina had 70of these fucking questions in
the document, so like I'm, I'm,I'm flipping through you know,
find one that that I know shehasn't answered yet all right,
(51:43):
you know what?
Speaker 1 (51:43):
I'll ask another
question while he's looking dina
, according to you, it's time toget a little controversial.
All right, you ready to getcontroversial?
The most mind-numbingly dullmovie ever made say tremors levi
will kill us we cannot say trip.
Speaker 2 (52:03):
Why would you even
bring that up?
Why would you even I love up?
Why?
Speaker 1 (52:05):
would you even?
I love Tremors, I love KevinBacon.
I just want to be controversialright now.
Speaker 4 (52:08):
Lost Boys Anthony's
in the chat, bro, I know I just
wanted to have him talk to meagain.
I just miss him, that's fair.
Speaker 1 (52:19):
No, so you just
lashed out in anger, you just
lashed out in anger what's the?
Speaker 4 (52:25):
Oh, Deadpool 3.
That's what I'm going to gowith.
Speaker 2 (52:27):
Oh you, son of a
bitch.
She's pandering to Shannonright now.
Speaker 4 (52:31):
Yeah, I am.
She's so nasty.
Speaker 2 (52:34):
Now Anthony's leaving
.
Speaker 4 (52:37):
No, I'm picturing
this movie and I can't remember
the name of it.
Speaker 2 (52:41):
So you're just naming
other people's favorite movies
that you happen to see in theroom yeah, no, I know which
which one.
Speaker 4 (52:48):
Um, I just lost it
again.
Speaker 2 (52:50):
Oh, the new flash oh
yeah, I haven't seen that I do
want to watch that, just becausekeaton's supposed to reprise
batman in that movie, but Ican't really bring myself to
watch it.
Speaker 4 (53:00):
So I've never not
finished a movie in my life, and
that was the first movie that Ididn't finish interesting yeah
you dnf'd.
Speaker 2 (53:11):
Okay, I have one last
one for you, dina um, if tomato
is a fruit, then is ketchup asmoothie no, smoothies have to
be cold I keep my ketchup in thefridge yeah you, yeah, you keep
(53:32):
your ketchup in the fridge, brooh yeah, you're right.
Speaker 4 (53:36):
Um no, no, because
you can't taste, there's no
texture to it, so smoothies havetexture.
Speaker 2 (53:43):
Texture defines a
smoothie, not what's necessarily
in it, but what the texture isyeah, smoothies have seeds.
Speaker 4 (53:50):
Ketchup doesn't have
seeds.
Speaker 1 (53:53):
So last question,
dina, are you ready?
Speaker 2 (53:55):
Smoothies have seeds.
That's the defining thing, yeah.
Speaker 1 (54:00):
Dina, you have a long
history with cults, is that
correct?
Speaker 4 (54:07):
Sort of yeah.
Speaker 1 (54:09):
Your job, because
we're upgrading here.
You are going to create thebest cult of all time, the cult
of the potato.
What is your tagline?
Oh, the freedom of choice, thefreedom of choice.
(54:34):
Oh shit, that's a good onethat's a good one.
Speaker 4 (54:37):
Right there, you can
have it any way you want it this
cold is however.
Speaker 1 (54:42):
You want it, baby, I
like it.
Speaker 2 (54:44):
Matthew said, salsa
is a fruit salad.
That's a good take, you knowwhat.
Speaker 4 (54:49):
It's pretty accurate,
I feel like.
Speaker 2 (54:50):
Pico de.
Speaker 1 (54:50):
Gallo fruit salad or,
if you like, a pineapple mango
salsa or something like that.
You know.
Speaker 4 (54:57):
Fun fact mango salsa
from Target is the only salsa
that I can have because there'sno onions in it.
Oh, wow, really yeah the onlysalsa that I can have, because
there's no onions in it.
Oh Wow, really.
Yeah, the Fridom of Choice.
Peter Sean, I want you to knowthat in my head that's how I was
spelling it, but it didn'toccur to me what I was thinking.
That's beautiful.
Speaker 2 (55:19):
Potato cult.
What was the?
Speaker 1 (55:20):
movie that we were
watching for this show.
Speaker 2 (55:26):
What are you?
Speaker 1 (55:27):
talking about are we
the candy?
Is that not?
Is that not why we're here?
Speaker 2 (55:32):
daniel, what the fuck
are you okay.
Speaker 4 (55:34):
Are you having a
stroke?
Speaker 1 (55:36):
we're doing the
pilgrims uh thing with liam
neeson yeah, that's what we'redoing tonight.
Speaker 2 (55:41):
Did you just go back
in time um?
Speaker 1 (55:44):
oh, oh shit.
Do you have a serious?
Speaker 2 (55:46):
author hat nearby
that you want to swap out with
your current hat, or you knowwhat I don't, but I'm I'm happy
to I'm so glad he came preparedfor your special show, got the
right drink too look, look, itbalances on my head.
This is perfection oh my god, corley.
(56:08):
She said join the potatoes andput some skin in the game I like
that one.
Speaker 1 (56:17):
Listen, we're
starting a great religion here.
I love it, um, all right.
So, dina, we're gonna put onour serious author hats and we
are gonna be talking aboutsomething special your second
book, book two of the discernerstrilogy, man, and I'm so
excited, so can we, can we givethem a little bit of the blurb
sean?
Can I, can I, can I hit him?
Speaker 2 (56:33):
with that blurb.
Yeah, before you hit him withthe blurb heather.
No, that's.
That's not quite the thing thatdina is doing right now, but
you're you're getting warmer'shot, that's hot.
Okay, Shannon.
Okay, the instructions were forDina to slowly pick up a random
object and stare at itintensely for a few seconds and
(56:55):
then put it down like it's nobig deal, which.
I feel like Is Dina sayingsomething to Opening things in
her face glasses, face glasses, case clip.
I feel like that's not closeenough.
Although you were getting warmheather, shannon said, is dina
playing with random objects, andI feel like that's good enough.
Speaker 1 (57:13):
So good enough.
Speaker 2 (57:14):
That's the title of
our show the good enough podcast
I think oh sorry listen, Ididn't prepare any more of these
, so I'm gonna see if I have onemore for Dina.
If I do, then that's going tobe the last one, because I've
got too many fucking platesspinning right now.
Speaker 1 (57:33):
Okay, no, that's fair
, that's fair, all right.
So, Dina, are you ready?
Are you ready for this?
Are you ready?
Speaker 4 (57:41):
You ready for this.
Speaker 1 (57:43):
You ready for this?
Paisley Adams isn't like theother girls.
She is a discerner.
Surviving high school wasn'teasy for somebody who can
manipulate emotions and auras.
But life threw Paisley anothercurveball when she had a chance
to encounter, a chance encounterwith the school outcast, james
Bennett, a discerner like her.
Together they discovered whatit meant to trust and love
(58:05):
completely without barriers, orso they believed.
After their relationship fellapart, paisley entered the next
phase of her life, attendingcollege at Columbia University,
ready to get a degree, changethe world and reconnect with old
friends.
See, she searches for normalcy, hoping to leave the past and
James behind her.
Enter Nathaniel Aroth, amysterious man with dark secrets
of his own.
(58:25):
With another chance encounter, paisley is once again thrust
into the wondrous world of magic.
Except this time, the strangeand seductive world is much
bigger than she ever realizedSecret societies and powers yet
unknown.
Is Paisley truly ready for thefresh start with someone new, or
will the ghost of James Bennettreturn to haunt her?
So, dina, before we get startedwith our serious author
(58:47):
questions, can I just start outby saying how dare you.
Speaker 2 (58:53):
How fucking dare the
audacity, the audacity.
Speaker 1 (59:00):
The lion, the witch
and the audacity of this bitch.
Speaker 4 (59:16):
How dare the lion the
?
Speaker 2 (59:17):
witch and the
audacity of this bitch
no-transcript.
Speaker 1 (59:18):
You threw the editor
under the bus.
Is that how this is going?
Huh?
Speaker 4 (59:22):
Yeah, I'm definitely
blaming the editor.
Oh, under the bus, is that howthis is going, huh?
Yeah, I'm definitely blamingthe editor.
Speaker 1 (59:26):
Oh yeah.
So now to circle this back upwith what happened in the
beginning part of this episode.
Dina says I don't know if I'mgoing to write book three, while
leaving book two on a goddamncliffhanger.
And you're going to tell methat you're not going to write
book three.
How dare.
Ashley is still here to bethrown under the bus here,
ashley we love you, ashley allright, but for for realsies
(59:50):
though we I have so manythoughts because this is such a
giant departure from what youdid in the first book, with
nothing special.
So in the first book this is ayou wrote from the voice of
angsty high school girl.
Now she's a college student,much more mature, she's a little
bit more warm, like world weary.
What was it like to change yourown character's voice, to grow
(01:00:14):
them up and have to kind ofchange how they talk because it
feels like you?
You can feel her getting olderin this book.
Speaker 4 (01:00:24):
Honestly, I loved
writing her older.
I kind of feel, like in mytenure at Lost Boys and
everything that I've writtensince book one has come out,
that my abilities as an authorhave leveled up quite a bit.
(01:00:44):
And well, I mean, I don't thinkthat something special is
necessarily better than nothingspecial.
I think that it was really funand enjoyable to write a more
mature voice and, honestly, likeI'm now working on a new book
that's adult romance instead ofYA, because I really enjoyed
aging my characters up and beingable to play around outside of
(01:01:06):
the ya rules and restrictionswithin that genre so kind of
piggybacking off of that, likematuring the characters and
their relationships.
Speaker 2 (01:01:21):
Even um, michaela
plays a really significant role
in Paisley's life and kind ofcomes back into it and I was
wondering, after their dynamicchanged and everything, what?
Speaker 4 (01:01:35):
what message were you
trying to convey with their
friendship, especially afterthey had their time, the secrets
that they kept from each other, etc um, I, I think that with
paisley and the discernerstrilogy I I get to explore
(01:01:55):
emotions on like a really deeplevel, because when you're a
teen and you put yourself backin that mindset you can, um,
you're learning howrelationships work right.
So in reality, like a lot oftimes, friends will drift apart.
You'll be friends as kids andthen you drift apart because
somebody moves or something likethat.
(01:02:16):
And I, in an ideal world likeyou, you reconnect right and you
want to oh, hold on one second,I'm sorry that wasn't a prompt
guys tiktok just like closed onme.
Okay, um, in an ideal worldlike you, reconnect with those
young friendships that you missso much because they do leave
holes in you.
(01:02:36):
And I thought that that's whatshe said.
I thought that it was nailed itI thought that it was very um,
therapeutic, um, and it feltlike every kid's dream to
reconnect with an old bestfriend and have it be the same
(01:02:57):
strong relationship that youremember it as like that
idealism of remembering and andso I kind of want to go on that,
because you know we talkedabout a little bit beforehand
that this is a bit of a genrehop.
Speaker 1 (01:03:10):
So not only you know
the first book is the coming of
age story, it's a YA story.
The focus is very much so onthe romance and on discovering
yourself, on battling through, you know, tragedy.
And this next book, it dealswith a lot of, you know, kind of
heavy themes.
But you know, the first bookyou kind of dabble a little bit
(01:03:30):
in the magic, the magic is justlike a little kind of topping,
and in the second book it's the,the meat and potatoes of your
story.
And so you've really kind of Idon't want to call it a
departure, but you have createdsomething that what that was
slightly paranormal to now fullyparanormal, and you've opened
up this world into magic andmystery.
(01:03:50):
What was it like?
Just kind of expanding and kindof leaning into the fantasy
elements.
Speaker 4 (01:03:56):
That's actually like
where, before I started writing
this new adult romance that I'mworking on, that's kind of where
I was most comfortable andwhere I thought that I shined
the most was in pure magic andpure fantasy.
The um and nothing special wasactually like the first thing
that I had ever written wherefantasy and magic weren't the
(01:04:19):
full focus.
So I really enjoyed coming backto that and that's why I made
the decision to pull in allkinds of different magic and a
full magic system within theworld rather than just having it
be like that icing on the cake, essentially like it was in book
one.
I really enjoyed having thatfull immersive while still also
(01:04:43):
being believable.
All of the magic that I used inbook two is still within the
realm of reason where somebodycould believe it because it
can't be proven.
Speaker 2 (01:04:51):
So that was really
fun we already have a believer
their name is levi levi, I'vetagged that uh question to come
back to later when we do q awith the audience, so we'll get
to that.
Um, great question.
By the way, dina, I'd be remissif I didn't mention the James
versus Nathaniel thing.
(01:05:12):
Um, I think that Paisley has areally complex relationship with
both of them and it made mewonder what your thought process
was behind creating these twolike super different love
interests and how they representdifferent aspects of Paisley's
character.
Speaker 4 (01:05:29):
I kind of um.
So the whole discerners trilogyis super emotion based and it
dives into this like sort ofintrospective, super deep,
annoyingly emotional reality ofthe world and like thinking
(01:05:51):
through things on a very deeppsychological level.
And I wanted to take because inmy experience I think that
there's two different kinds oflove, like well, there's a
couple different, a fewdifferent kinds, like you've got
true love, you've got yoursoulmate, you've got your first
love, like there's and there'sdifferent levels and aspects to
(01:06:12):
each of those.
So I thought that if James isPaisley soulmate, then what
other kind of love can Paisleyexperience.
Speaker 2 (01:06:21):
That's what I got for
the first half of the book.
Speaker 4 (01:06:26):
It was very, very,
yeah, just horny love.
That's why I liked going intothe adult aspect of it.
Um, there's like and I justwanted her to experience like a
different one of those and thenleave it up to the audience for
now to decide which one of thoseloves is best suited for her if
they're, if she's, if she wantsto be with her soulmate, or if
(01:06:47):
she wants to be with true loveor first love, or like all those
different aspects, and whichone is more well suited for her.
Because I think that as we growas people, every one of us has
a different kind of love that wedecide to choose to be with
sorry, what were we talkingabout again?
Speaker 2 (01:07:08):
what the fuck is
wrong with you?
What do you have?
A question or not?
Speaker 1 (01:07:15):
thoughtful corny love
.
Speaker 4 (01:07:17):
Yeah, yeah, sorry, I
checked those are so much better
than my first interview.
I'm just saying I need to startdrinking more so.
Speaker 1 (01:07:25):
So, dina, let me, let
me ask you something for for to
be serious for a second, thefirst book was about finding
love, finding yourself and, Iwould say, dealing with tragedy.
And this second book you know, underneath the magic and the
love interest and the lovetriangle and all these other
things that goes on, I would saythat this is a story about
grief, about acceptance, aboutmoving on, and I know that, as
(01:07:47):
much as we like to joke around, you know this obviously is not a
, a self-insert.
This is, you know, a fictionalcharacter, but I think that
there's aspects that you drawfrom yourself and your own
personal tragedies and ownpersonal things that you
experience.
So what was it like channelingyour own grief and loss and
experiences, moving on, andchanneling that into paisley and
(01:08:08):
and did you find it?
You know, cathartic?
Speaker 4 (01:08:13):
honestly, I I think
that's why I struggled with
writing book two a lot more thanI did with book one, because
book one was definitely a lot ofme working through my grief
after I lost my dad, becauseobviously book one was like my
(01:08:35):
promise to him that I wouldpursue writing and publication
again.
Book two was never planned.
I never had an idea for it.
In fact, book two was neverplanned.
(01:08:57):
I never had an idea for it.
In fact, I spent a lot of timebothering Ashley like
brainstorming how to continuethis story, because what book
one process those emotions formy grief and book two was not
that at all.
Book two was me trying toconnect with myself as an author
.
So I just I don't know, Ididn't feel super emotionally
(01:09:21):
drained by it, but instead Ifound it to be more fruitful and
an opportunity for growth as awriter, not necessarily as like
the individual, me, which isexperience that I had with
nothing special I love that.
Speaker 2 (01:09:36):
Answer um before we
move on before we move on,
samantha, daniel's thing is tospace out.
Actually, I believe.
I believe what I told him waspretend to forget what the show
is about and ask wait, what arewe doing, what are we talking
about?
Again Right in the middle of aconversation.
And I think your answer is goodenough.
So yeah, samantha nailed it.
Now Daniel's released from theclutches of the game.
Speaker 4 (01:10:02):
I just want to say
that this mic is there for me in
so many ways that Daniel isn't,and I really it's there for me
more than it's there for anybodyelse.
Speaker 2 (01:10:14):
If we're being honest
, that is hurtfully accurate.
Speaker 4 (01:10:20):
I'm gonna fucking
kill myself.
Sean's never gonna do this gameagain, but thank you, sean,
it's been a very fun game.
It's been a very fun game.
I I'm going to fucking killmyself.
Speaker 2 (01:10:27):
It's been a very fun
game.
I've gotten it wrong about halfthe time.
Okay, I'm just going to takeyour word for it, shannon,
because I'm not going to flip.
Oh, there it is.
It's Daniel pretending toforget about what you're talking
about.
Yeah, she said it, I needanother.
(01:10:47):
I need an associate producerhere with me.
Speaker 1 (01:10:49):
That's what I need.
Yeah, where is executiveproducer Kalei?
She's ordering dinner.
Okay, that's fair, that's fair,all right.
Speaker 2 (01:10:52):
So, Dina, you've
survived.
I have another question, dummy.
Speaker 1 (01:10:54):
Oh, sorry, sorry,
Please go, isn't he?
Speaker 4 (01:10:56):
so bad at
interviewing with people Like it
sucks being on his team forthese things by the way.
Speaker 2 (01:11:01):
By the way, no,
shannon, you're fine.
I fucked up.
You're fine.
Um, I uh I'm not gonna spoilanything, but I will say this um
a year or however long ago, itwas dina when we did this for
your first book.
Um, you said that you do havelike fantasy elements in your
book, of course, but you don'treally have a big bad in the
(01:11:22):
story.
Um, oh yeah that most fantasyreaders might expect, and I
don't think that's necessarilytrue.
Like we already touched on ittonight, the big bad in the
story is kind of like grief andloss, and it's not necessarily a
tangible big bad, but it's likeit's there.
Um, in this book there is anactual big bad and I'm going to
(01:11:45):
say who or what it is.
But was that a big jump for youto have like a main antagonist?
Speaker 3 (01:11:51):
I hated it.
Speaker 2 (01:11:52):
Yeah, I figured you
hated it, but can you like talk
to us about that and how ithelped shape the newer
characters in the story?
Speaker 4 (01:12:03):
Yeah, so I and other
work that I've written, I'm used
to having a big bad.
I did not like having a big badin the discerners world because
I never wanted Paisley to be asuperhero that was fighting the
big bad and destroying evil andI didn't want that for her.
I just her to be super, supernormal, which is why I think
(01:12:26):
that this series is so niche forpeople, um, and it kind of
struggles to grab a new audiencebecause I, I don't have the
hero's journey necessarily inthe traditional sense, um, that
fantasy lovers want, and I don'thave a big antagonist keeping
the couple apart really at alleither.
(01:12:48):
Um, but I did want to do like alittle bit of the superhero
element and the hero's journeywithin book two because, um, I
opened up the world of magicentirely and gave it to paisley
on a silver platter.
So I I did write the big badand I I think it turned out good
(01:13:10):
.
Speaker 2 (01:13:11):
I just it wasn't the
original plan, it turned out
really good, and it totallysurprised me, because I wasn't
expecting that at all that'sgood.
Speaker 1 (01:13:20):
All right, dina, it
is time for a segment that
producer Sean has actuallyalways prepared for Off the wall
questions with Sean DariusHolden.
Sean, what's your, what's your?
What's your question bud?
Speaker 2 (01:13:34):
Let's see Um what if
Paisley could only activate her
magic, if she broke out into aspontaneous musical number?
What song would she singspecifically when she what
moment?
Speaker 1 (01:13:52):
Oh shit, that's a
good question.
What's the music, what songthat activates her powers?
Speaker 2 (01:13:58):
Yeah, what song would
she have to sing to activate
her powers?
Speaker 3 (01:14:03):
Oh no, I was going to
pick a specific moment, but
let's just go with in generalpink pony by chaperone oh god,
let's let the author answer.
Speaker 4 (01:14:12):
Pal, don't write the
witness, I'll just apologize it
would either be yes, it wouldeither be um, are you ready for
it?
By taylor swift, but like youhave to have a whole orchestra
going like like that, or um, itwould be uh, um, uh.
Speaker 1 (01:14:34):
Let's get down to
business it's oh my god, that
would be so badass.
Oh my god, that would beintimidating.
Put that in the chat.
Speaker 3 (01:14:43):
Just walk in.
Speaker 2 (01:14:44):
Oh my God, that would
be, intimidating.
Put that in the chat.
Speaker 1 (01:14:49):
Oh shit, I love that
and actually I think that you
should incorporate that nexttime.
The opening scene of book threeis Paisley humming to herself
as she fucking magic subs andpeople.
No opening scene of book threeis some Paisley and ropes and
chains with somebody.
(01:15:09):
I'm just kidding.
Whoa, oh fuck whoa.
50 shades of paisley adams, um,all right.
So, dina, it turns out that thereal big bad isn't nathaniel
eroth's dad, it's someone muchhigher up.
Just fucking spoil that it'snot a spoiler, guys.
Speaker 4 (01:15:28):
It was obvious from
sean was so careful it's
definitely a spoiler, you're socareful.
It's, it was so careful it's.
Speaker 1 (01:15:36):
It doesn't give away
anything because the real big
bad, as it turns out, is thecookie monster.
How does this change your book?
Speaker 4 (01:15:48):
bringing it back to
peter sean tyrell baby the
cookie monster is actually theshaman that saves life, and
paisley appreciates that wow, Idid.
Speaker 2 (01:16:07):
I did like that scene
specifically because of
challenges and needing to besaved.
Um, I also.
Before we move on, I just wantto like point just off the top
of my head, like shoot out somereferences and maybe easter eggs
that you threw in that Inoticed and appreciated.
Um yeah um, you mentioned armveins a lot which really
(01:16:29):
resonated with me.
There's at least two or threetimes that you mentioned arm
veins, so I thought that wasworth noting.
Um, you made paisley fuckingadams like a plot point which I
loved, like you took like a bitthat we created on the show as a
passing joke that we've kept upthis whole time into an actual
(01:16:53):
plot point in the book yeah thatwas so cool professor denton oh
yeah, professor denton, who washaving some type of medical
procedure, I hope he's okay.
Speaker 4 (01:17:03):
hopefully he's good,
don't worry.
Speaker 2 (01:17:06):
Shannon, the new
friend in class, who always has
pockets full of chicken nuggets.
Speaker 1 (01:17:10):
Pocket nugs.
Speaker 2 (01:17:12):
Pocket nugs for the
win.
Paisley has a we have Issuespodcast hoodie and it's her
favorite hoodie apparently.
Speaker 4 (01:17:20):
Yeah, her butt looks
good when she wears it too.
Yeah, I love that.
Speaker 1 (01:17:25):
I love that.
I love that.
The shorts that definitely.
That was one of my absolutefavorites.
I I had a little chuckle thereoh, levi, don't go back don't go
back, levi, he really fucked up.
Speaker 2 (01:17:39):
If I knew he was
gonna do that, I would have
don't say it again don't repeatit um, there was a ton of easter
eggs in here, like all thenames that mckayla and paisley
called each other the whole time.
Speaker 4 (01:17:51):
Um, I thought robin's
so much research because I do
not know my pop culture thatwell guys, dina, I have been.
Speaker 2 (01:17:57):
I read dina's
annotated copy where she like,
points out a number of theseeaster eggs and a number of them
I would have never caught.
But you also didn't write notesout a number of these Easter
eggs and a number of them Iwould have never caught.
But you also didn't write noteson a number of them that I did
catch.
So I thought that was cool.
Speaker 4 (01:18:10):
Really I didn't.
I thought that I caught.
Okay, I'm sorry.
Mostly no, I'm not sorry.
Speaker 2 (01:18:15):
References and stuff.
Oh, you also specifically namedBennett from every wish way in
your book, another Shannon shoutout.
So that was cool.
Speaker 1 (01:18:26):
No, listen, it was a
winner and we're going to be
talking about our thoughts andfeelings about your book here in
a second, but before we do,because that's unclear.
So, sean, are we doing numbertwo here in bold?
Are we moving on to the nextone?
Speaker 2 (01:18:40):
No, we're not doing
number.
We're not doing a number two.
That's what you're not taking anumber two.
Speaker 1 (01:18:44):
We're not doing a
number two.
What about?
Speaker 2 (01:18:45):
a big number, three
we could do a three.
We could probably do a fewthrees yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:18:49):
Well, you know what,
while we're getting worked up
for a big number three, can Ijust say, dina, it's time for a
part of our show.
Proud tradition, it's calledthe one second pitch.
You've got one second to sellthese motherfuckers on your book
and why they need to do it, andthen you know, we'll give you a
one second pitch.
Speaker 3 (01:19:06):
Did you?
Speaker 4 (01:19:07):
know I forgot.
Speaker 3 (01:19:09):
I think I got it.
Speaker 1 (01:19:12):
That's a hundred
percent.
So you can lie, cheat, seduce, threaten the audience, whatever
it takes him to buy this book.
But, dina, you got one second.
Are you ready?
You can give him the white.
Speaker 4 (01:19:22):
Yeah, give him the
white P.
Give him the white P here we goThree, two.
Magic Mafia Daddy.
Speaker 1 (01:19:29):
Got it.
Speaker 4 (01:19:29):
Magic.
Speaker 1 (01:19:29):
Mafia Daddy, I love
it.
So, dina, give them the fullelevator pitch, man.
Why should they check this bookout?
Speaker 4 (01:19:40):
So this book follows
Paisley off to college where
lots of crazy things happen andyou know, people just find
themselves and it's all hot andbothered.
And, yeah, they experiment andlearn about themselves in
college and you can followPaisley with her hot professor
and the club owner that you justwant to swoon over and Magic
(01:20:04):
Maf, mafia daddy is an entireworld of magic out there.
Um, she travels to othercountries and embarks on a
journey to actually save theworld.
Speaker 2 (01:20:16):
So there's an Indiana
Jones fantasy in there that I
that I particularly liked, ohyeah.
Speaker 4 (01:20:21):
Yeah, yeah, that's a
good one.
Ben Barnes, baby Ben Barnes.
Speaker 1 (01:20:27):
Yeah, that's a good
one, Ben Barnes, baby Ben Barnes
.
But um so, sean, are we doingthis?
Are we going to bring it in?
Are we doing this?
Speaker 3 (01:20:36):
I don't want that.
Speaker 1 (01:20:38):
Yep, it's going to
happen.
Guess what, Dina?
Your book gets the no SpaceBell Prize from the Don't Make
it Weird podcast.
You are a no Bell Prize winningauthor, Dina.
How does it?
Speaker 4 (01:20:50):
feel.
Speaker 2 (01:20:50):
The seal of approval
this cup.
Speaker 4 (01:20:52):
I just want to say to
this cup right here how much I
love this cup, and this cup hasgotten me through a lot of
really hard times and Iappreciate it a lot.
I love you so much, baby, thankyou.
Speaker 3 (01:21:02):
Thank you cup.
Speaker 2 (01:21:05):
Thank you, thank you,
cub, thank you, thank you, cub,
thank you.
I think you're projecting thosefeelings that you meant for us
onto the Cub.
Speaker 1 (01:21:09):
Yeah, 100% for us,
but that's okay.
So listen, we're going to openthis up to author questions in a
second with the chat and we'regoing to let you guys after Dina
does pee.
Oh, we're going to take a quickpee break, all right, so so,
sean, are we gonna do?
Oh my god, you got the graphicup yes yes, so.
So, sean.
This means that we can sing toher while she pees, right, is
(01:21:29):
that?
Is that what we're doing?
Speaker 4 (01:21:30):
yeah, I guess so no,
I'm gonna take off my headphones
.
I don't want to listen to youguys while I pee.
Speaker 3 (01:21:38):
Okay, dina is not the
third white pee the regular pea
because she's hydrated shannon, your favorite bit is the nobel
prize, is it really?
Speaker 2 (01:21:50):
thank you, shannon,
you're just gonna feed daniel's
ego like that we are veryserious podcast with very
serious awards here.
Speaker 1 (01:21:59):
Okay, not just
everyone gets the nobel prize
here just everyone.
Actually I okay, but here Justeveryone actually Okay, but the
people before I thought of a bitnever got it.
Speaker 2 (01:22:10):
Dewey never misses a
chance to insert the whip gif,
you guys.
It's at the top of hisfavorites, the top of his
favorites.
Dina is giving a lot of love toinanimate objects tonight.
Yes, she is matthew, and youjust earned yourself an entry
(01:22:31):
into the raffle for the sneakattack contest oh my god, she
had another one yeah, that wasthe last one too.
So that game's over.
Don't look out for more bitsanymore there's no more bits,
guys.
This is just our own stupidityat this also, I really, really
hope that matthew was the firstperson to mention that it'll be
(01:22:53):
fine, it'll be fine, it's fineeverything's fine, um so.
Speaker 1 (01:23:00):
So, sean, could you
sing the dean a little bit,
could just.
Speaker 2 (01:23:05):
She took her
earphones out, dude, and she's
not listening.
Speaker 1 (01:23:07):
Allegedly the
camera's off.
We don't know that.
It could very well still be inher ears.
Speaker 2 (01:23:13):
I mean it is the kind
of thing she would do.
But I really did believe herwhen she said she didn't want to
hear us while she pees.
Speaker 3 (01:23:20):
Or something special.
Now, this is come on.
Speaker 1 (01:23:26):
This is yeah.
It's like it's like the othersong that we did what?
No, it's like we're gonna dothe something special song.
I thought we were doing this oh, is that?
Speaker 2 (01:23:34):
is that a song?
Is that a real?
Speaker 3 (01:23:38):
song special now,
page the adams don't know how to
frown.
If you like to get on down, getsomething special now, see I
got a new drink because I turnedoff my opportunity to get a new
drink I
Speaker 1 (01:24:00):
know, perfect, all
right, so.
So, dina, before we open thequestions up to the audience, I
I just want to take a second andand tell you how freaking proud
I am now you could be a sponsorbaby.
This is shit's good, tina Idon't even like mango dina, I
need you to focus up right now, dina, need you to focus up.
You focused.
(01:24:21):
I need, I need eye contact.
I need like daniel, get to thefucking point because I'm really
fucking proud of this book andand this one.
I know that you've said all thetime this is a harder book.
This was a harder book for youto write Because the first book
was your emotion, was everythingit was, and the second book,
you didn't know how to writethis book.
Series was never meant to be aseries, it was meant to be a
standalone and you opened it upand what you did with this magic
(01:24:54):
magic honestly for you sayingthat you were less emotionally
connected.
I was more emotionallyconnected with her journey in
this book than even the firstone, and you've sold yourself
short by how good this book isand people need to understand
that.
You said it yourself.
You are leveling up as anauthor.
You are already fucking greatbefore and you are even better
now and I'm so proud of you andI'm so happy I got to read this
(01:25:16):
book, man, and I can't wait tosee you keep on going on this
journey.
Dina, I absolutely love you todeath, man.
Speaker 4 (01:25:20):
I'm so proud of you
thank you, daniel, that was
actually really nice you get oneof those a year.
Speaker 1 (01:25:26):
Maybe I just need to
not connect one of those per
book.
Speaker 2 (01:25:31):
So, matthew, no, I
did not let her know, and I
assume that she was being honestwhen she said she took your
headphones off.
So, um, the game's over.
Matthew guessed your thingabout loving inanimate objects
okay, yeah, you know, I saw hiscomment oh, okay, so you were
still looking at the comments Imessaged you about it while I
was peeing.
Oh, you did Well, I happened tonotice before you, but I
(01:25:56):
noticed your message, so here wego.
Speaker 1 (01:25:58):
And Dina.
I want to put on top of thisbecause Sean is going to be too
humble about this.
Sean, as you guys know and thisisn't like a slight, I'm not
actually making fun of him herebecause we've talked about
before.
For anyone that doesn't knowwhat the show Sean's not a big
reader.
Before this podcast, it'd beenprobably since high school since
the last time he'd read a bookthat like from beginning to end,
because it's just not how heconsumes media.
And so not only did he read thefirst book, but he wanted to go
(01:26:27):
out of his way to make surethat he read this whole book for
you before, before this show, and him texting and talking
about how much he was loving itand how just gripped he was with
it.
It made me so freaking happybecause we're turning this guy
into a fucking reader.
I will send you screenshots, Ipromise you.
Speaker 2 (01:26:42):
I got you, not my
private messages.
Speaker 1 (01:26:45):
Well, it's not the
nudes man, those don't exist.
Well, they they do.
I'll send you my search historyokay.
Speaker 2 (01:26:53):

be another chance yeah, man, ifyou win the paperback.
Speaker 4 (01:28:43):
Send pictures because
I don't know what it looks like
you don't have a copy of yourown book.
Speaker 2 (01:28:49):
I have the special

Speaker 4 (01:28:52):
I actually thought
that I was going to have to do a
reading, so I saved my spot.
But no, I have the specialedition.
Speaker 2 (01:28:58):
You wanted to do a
reading.
I wasn't going to make you do areading.
I didn't think you'd want to.
Speaker 4 (01:29:02):
Oh, I didn't care.
Speaker 2 (01:29:04):
See that's why I
asked about the number two, yeah
, it was on the rundown and Ididn't.
I didn't ask you ahead of timeif you wanted to do it, so I
said just skip it.
Do you guys want dina to do areading right now?

She will make iBabies withevery single person asking a

Just trust us, it's fine, getthere, get there.
Speaker 4 (01:29:38):
Reading Rainbow.
Speaker 3 (01:29:41):
Butterfly in the sky.
The poll is in the chat.
Speaker 2 (01:29:43):
You guys should see
it in the live chat right now.
Paisley is twice as high.
Speaker 3 (01:29:50):
It's in a book.
Just take a look, it's thesternus trilogy I think the the
results it's pretty obvious yes,I regret you're not getting it.
Speaker 4 (01:30:01):
Yeah, you didn't even
have to say anything about this
.
Speaker 2 (01:30:05):
I regret you didn't
even have to say anything about
this.
Speaker 4 (01:30:08):
Justin, next time we
team at work, I'll make iBubbies
with you, okay iBubbies, ibubbies with you iBubbies, yeah
, oh my god, there's an actualpoll.
Speaker 2 (01:30:23):
Yep, every vote is
yes, dina.
So you know the needful, youneed to do the needful.
Speaker 1 (01:30:29):
Go ahead and whip it
out, dina, just fucking whip
that bad boy out do I?
Speaker 4 (01:30:33):
okay, wait, I.
I would usually dialogue aboutthis with you guys backstage, so
we're just gonna do it here.
Do I read the diary entry too?
Speaker 1 (01:30:44):
I love your diary
entry, so the answer is yes.
All right, those are probablymy favorite little vignettes.
Speaker 4 (01:30:51):
Okay, I can't
pronounce my chapter titles, so
don't ask me to do that.
Thank you, pain, you rottencancerous ulcer.
It's odd to see so little of myown perspective, to have no
idea what others do in theirworlds when they're away from me
.
They could be cheating and Iwould never know.
Not unless the fake world andthe real world collided.
(01:31:35):
That would be a disaster.
I wonder what James' real worldis doing right now compared to
the one in my head for him.
I wonder how Nathaniel feelsafter his real world crashed
into mine, signed World Walkerhands, I cut straight to the
chase, desperate to forget abouteverything else.
Part of me hoped I couldpretend he was someone else and
not a gross stranger who doesn'tsmell good.
I mean, put on some cologne ifyou're going to be out dancing
and trying to pick up women.
(01:31:55):
I pull away from him, tired ofbeing bored and miserable.
Sorry, this isn't working.
What do you mean?
He asks and tries to kiss myneck again.
I push him back and before heeven has a chance to get
frustrated, I slash across hischest with my magic and change
his feelings about me entirely.
He doesn't want to kiss me, hedoesn't want to do anything with
me.
He feels nothing for me.
(01:32:16):
It's not you, it's me.
I say he accepts the line, walking away with no hard
feelings.
I throw myself lazily on thecouch this is Nathaniel's club
Diacrino.
But he's not here.
Ezekiel assured me he wouldn'tbe here tonight.
I refuse to explain to Ezekielwhy I'm avoiding Nathaniel.
The last thing I need is forhis bro to be involved.
(01:32:36):
He'd lie and cover for him.
No doubt.
I've been ignoring dozens ofcalls and texts, leaving them
entirely unopened.
I'm quite proud of myself-restraint.
I made Ezekiel promise not totell Nathaniel we'd be here or
that.
I asked if he was going to behere or not.
Michaela reassured me he'd keepthat promise.
I don't want to know how she isable to make him keep that
promise.
(01:32:56):
Another drink from the barsounds ideal.
It'll help keep me distracted.
Maybe it will even make meinterested in kissing another
guy At the bar.
While I wait for my drink, Ihear his voice behind me, dark
and smooth like coffee.
I could have you kicked out forunderage drinking.
You know he shouldn't be here.
Ezekiel assured me he would beworking late at his lab.
Crap.
I shouldn't talk to him in thisstate.
(01:33:17):
I turned to Nathaniel with asensual grace I didn't think I
was capable of portraying.
I shouldn't act like this.
I should be flat out mad.
But I want to know if I wasmore than a stupid fling he used
.
You wouldn't dare play thatgame, would you, professor?
I raise one eyebrow and try torestrain my own smirk fucking
(01:33:40):
love it.
Speaker 1 (01:33:41):
Man leveled up for
sure as a writer, I I can't.
I can't.
It was such a good scene.
Like I said, she starts kickingsome ass with her magic in this
one.
So, guys, here is youropportunity.
We got one question in the chatwe actually got two, because
we're going to get that one fromthe previous tag back but
anything you got, man, anythingyou got about magic, dina,
dinosaurs, her feelings On whichdays of the week, or even or
(01:34:03):
odd, just just fucking Ask somequestions.
Speaker 2 (01:34:06):
Man Like Our friend
Levi wants to know, now that
you've met sean and daniel, whatare their colors?
Speaker 4 (01:34:18):
um, I would say that
daniel Daniel is green and
yellow and Sean is purple.
Speaker 1 (01:34:38):
A purple man.
He's a purple man.
Okay, I can get on board withthat.
I don't know what those colorssignify.
Speaker 2 (01:34:49):
A little fuchsia, if
will fuchsia um rebecca wants to
know um, I know you said youdidn't want a big bad but had
one anyway in book two.
So was it intentional that thebb big bad has more of an
emotional impact before largeworld implications?
Speaker 4 (01:35:08):
I don't understand
the question.
Speaker 2 (01:35:10):
What, what rebecca
rephrase the big bad has more
large world implications oh,like like the external world,
that he has more of an emotionalimpact before it becomes larger
world implications I'm not mybrain's not following I'm sorry,
(01:35:37):
I'm not following your mouth,so I'm not gonna I'll wait, I'll
wait till she well before we,I'll wait for her to clarify and
then, before that, can we goback?
because, levi, I have been innumerous country clubs oh my god
(01:36:03):
so like I don't know if you yousaw all of the comments after
your excerpt but, like everyone, fucking loved it.
Speaker 4 (01:36:11):
I did not look.
Speaker 2 (01:36:12):
People are excited to
read about it.
Oh, shannon wants to know.
Do we get a hint of who will beendgame in book three?
Speaker 1 (01:36:21):
Listen, I changed my
answer from what I thought it
would be after book one to whatmy answer is now after book two.
Speaker 4 (01:36:26):
So I'm fascinated by
this one to what my answer is
now, after book two.
So I'm fascinated by this.
I think that it is obvious whoendgame I know who endgame is.
Um, I did decide.
Finally, I think it's obvious,but logan, isn't it?
Speaker 1 (01:36:45):
I almost did that
just to piss everybody off you
would have had a fucking riot ifyou'd done that how fucking
funny would that have?
Speaker 4 (01:36:54):
been um.
Rebecca said that loganredemption.
Rebecca can't rephrase herquestion without spoiling, so
rebecca, can you message me withthe spoiler and then, like,
I'll answer without?
Speaker 2 (01:37:06):
a call?
Yeah, yeah, slide into them, dms have we thought about?
Michaela and paisley's beingthe end game.
Speaker 1 (01:37:13):
I actually I stand
this, I stand this oh shit thank
you, levi but are we not goingto talk about how michela and
Paisley should be the end game?
I I'm in.
I support.
Levi and I talked about Iwasn't going to say that, but
like I'm getting strong vibes, you know, I just feel like it
(01:37:37):
does not make that Shannon'slike the love triangle Like the
real love triangle is in bookthree is between Shannon and
Michaela.
Speaker 4 (01:37:43):
Michaela just needs
some, you know arm veins and
then it'll be a done deal.
Yep 100.
Speaker 2 (01:37:53):
I yeah, I didn't
realize that was happening, but
um, oh, I was about to answerthe audience, but I'll wait
ashley hutchison would like toknow would you say that the
standards paisley gives us forinterpreting the meaning behind
each color varies from discernerto discerner, as in?
Does perspective matter or dothose standards solid, or are
those standards solid?
That's a great question.
Speaker 4 (01:38:11):
Please hold.
No, put it back up there.
Speaker 2 (01:38:14):
Oh my God, I have a
okay.
Speaker 4 (01:38:16):
I need to read it.
Speaker 2 (01:38:18):
I read it aloud for
you I everybody stopped talking.
Speaker 4 (01:38:22):
I'm way too drunk,
Hold on.
Speaker 3 (01:38:28):
I had it on for a
second.
Speaker 2 (01:38:30):
Okay, I had it.
So when I pop comments on thescreen, it stays for 10 seconds
and automatically disappears, because I hate having to
remember to take it away.
So I had to go turn off thesetting to automatically remove
it.
So now it will stay okay, I'mso.
Speaker 4 (01:38:42):
Well, you, you can
take it down.
Um, yeah, I would say that they, they definitely vary from
discerner to discerner what eachcolor means.
Every color means somethingdifferent to them and I think
that it has a lot to do with, like, with their um, I guess
background because, like, remember, let's remember that
(01:39:03):
paisley's dad is colorblind.
He, he's going to interpreteverything he sees very
differently, but it's stillgoing to be accurate to him.
But he's going to see somethingelse that Paisley doesn't see.
Speaker 3 (01:39:17):
Right.
Speaker 1 (01:39:18):
Yeah, yeah, that's a
great answer.
That's why she's been askingthe what color is math question
on our show for a year.
Speaker 2 (01:39:24):
Okay, Our friend Levi
would like to know.
Paisley gets dropped into theworld of fast and the furious.
What's the plot of that movie?
Speaker 4 (01:39:32):
bro, never, never
seen any of them.
Um just family.
Just say family, it's fine justfamilia um perfect.
I just really love paul walkerin that song.
I would say that paisley wouldbe able to kick every bad guy's
ass Right and like just givethem to get there.
(01:39:55):
Yeah, Get them to give her thecars Right.
They steal cars.
Speaker 2 (01:40:00):
You know it kind of
we talked about this before.
I want to do a thing where wehave Dina describe the plot of a
movie she's never seen before, because I feel like I'm so good
at it, like like of iconicmovies even movies you've seen
before, because I feel like youwould.
You would still be reallyentertaining you want to know.
Speaker 1 (01:40:20):
What's funny, though,
is that, unintentionally, I
would say that fast and furiousis doing the same thing that
dina's doing with her books, because book one is very
grounded in reality every time.
The first fast and the furiousis very grounded in reality.
Speaker 2 (01:40:33):
Uh, the last fast and
the furious involves tanks and
flying helicopters and like allthe car stuff like way over the
top and completely I can see whythey're gonna get to 10.
Speaker 4 (01:40:42):
oh, hold on everybody
, daniel sing.
Hold on everybody, daniel singRebecca's messaging me.
Speaker 3 (01:40:48):
Oh, there's something
special now, cause the autumn's
gonna frown.
If you like the magic, nowcheck out something special Are
you doing the His Ragged Company?
Speaker 2 (01:41:02):
look, right now,
that's exactly what I'm doing
you, fucking dick.
Speaker 1 (01:41:10):
Oh God.
Speaker 2 (01:41:16):
I really Go ahead
Dina.
Speaker 1 (01:41:18):
Sorry, yeah continue.
Speaker 4 (01:41:19):
Can we pull Rebecca's
question up now, because I
understand what she's saying?
Sweet Jesus.
You're welcome Sean.
Thank you for making this sucha great night there you go, it's
back on the screen okay.
Question for dina.
I know you said you didn't wanta big bad, damn it, but had,
(01:41:40):
but had one anyway in book two.
So was it intentional that thebig bad has more of an emotional
impact before large worldimplications?
Yes, I wanted.
Even though I implemented a bigbad, I still wanted it to be
about an emotional journey, because that is the heart of the
Discerners trilogy.
Even if I didn't want to writethis book in a new way, I still
(01:42:04):
wanted it to be grounded in theoriginal sense of the trilogy
way and I I still wanted it tobe grounded in the original
sense of the trilogy.
So, yes, it was intentionalthat everything that happens is
about manipulating emotionsbefore it has an impact on the
exterior, greater world howfunny would have been if she
just answered yes and then leftit at that.
Speaker 2 (01:42:26):
After all that so
catching up on some old comments
that came in after someprevious questions.
Matthew said Thanos is endgameFair.
Levi reiterated that give meMikaela and Paisley or give me
death.
Shannon is saying you arescaring me in all caps.
I assume that was in answer tothe reaction to the end game
(01:42:49):
question yes, it was uh,samantha wants to know do you
have to read book one in orderto read book two, or is it like
an interconnected standalone?
Speaker 4 (01:43:03):
ashley, close your
ears, your muffs.
I don't think you have to knowwhat's going on from book one to
book two.
I think that you could get agood grasp of the people just in
book two.
I think that you would bemissing out on a lot of who
(01:43:28):
paisley is without book one.
But I think that you could readbook two and be like, okay, I
like you could fall in love withthe characters still.
But at the end of book two youwouldn't understand how grave
the the matter is.
You would be a little bit like.
You wouldn't like.
The cliffhanger wouldn't hit ashard.
Speaker 1 (01:43:51):
Yeah, for what it's
worth.
Just as a reader, I kind ofwould agree with that.
You don't need to read book oneto understand.
You won't be lost in book twoif you did not read book one,
but book two won't have the sameemotional impact if you didn't
read book one.
Speaker 2 (01:44:08):
Shannon says everyone
should ask their questions in
one syllable words thank youpoetry for one more question.
Speaker 1 (01:44:15):
Buddy, we can do this
with one more can we do six to
twelve more?
Speaker 2 (01:44:20):
yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:44:21):
I'm in there was a
lot of questions.
I can go fast if we want to tryto get to everybody's questions
.
Speaker 2 (01:44:24):
You don't have to go
fast.
Remember when France was ourfriend lol hashtag.
I miss qbc in the chat.
Um how much of your writingcaptures the real world you live
in?
That's a question from justinyoung in the chat I would say
probably 80 percent.
Speaker 4 (01:44:47):
Like, the
relationships are all very real
and it's like 97.
These are all real people theexperiences are real hashtag
magic is real hashtag I miss qbcmost of it's real, minus the
magic allegedly levi would liketo know will there be a time
(01:45:09):
travel plot in book 3?
Speaker 2 (01:45:10):
I will tell you that
Dina was like it completely went
off the rails, so I'm notsurprised if there's time travel
, she said there was espionage, who knows?
Speaker 4 (01:45:19):
yeah, um, honestly,
levi, when you asked me that a
while ago, I was like that's sosmart and I should totally do
that, but I don't have theenergy to do that right now.
So, no, I'll write a timetravel book for you eventually.
How about that?
Speaker 2 (01:45:36):
love it love it, and
becky is gonna round us out here
.
Who is your least favoritecharacter to write and why?
Speaker 4 (01:45:53):
James.
Speaker 2 (01:45:53):
Whoa, oh, I have to
say why, fuck?
Speaker 4 (01:45:58):
I didn't expect that
answer.
Yeah, because it was difficultto oh character that was so
realistic to my life, whilestill making other people fall
in love with him because I hopethis person chokes on their own
(01:46:20):
piss but like and I had to likemanipulate the character to fit
into what an audience would wantso that I didn't like, I don't
like writing him at all.
Speaker 1 (01:46:33):
Fair enough, fair
enough, all right.
So, dina, you've survived,we've made it all the way to the
end here, and we only have timefor one more giveaway.
Sean, what's our word for thisfinal, final giveaway?
Speaker 2 (01:46:50):
the final giveaway,
which I'm not furiously setting
up right here at the last secondI can sing again.
Speaker 1 (01:46:57):
Would you like me to
sing again?
Speaker 4 (01:46:58):
no the window is open
, so is that floor?
It didn't know.
Speaker 2 (01:47:03):
They did that and he
more um the final keyword to win
a copy of something special bydns is paisley in the chat,
which is short form for paisleyfucking adams paisley, fucking
(01:47:24):
adams say her goddamn name whoknew we owned 8,000 solid blades
.
Becky says this was not theanswer I expected.
Yeah, me too.
I was shocked by that answer.
Speaker 3 (01:47:37):
Yeah, yeah, levi's
got a good point here.
Speaker 2 (01:47:40):
They said colors are
light particles, slash waves and
they can travel through time.
So there's all this set up forinterpreting sending messages
into the past, slash future, with the color pushing changes.
It's right there.
It's so close, right in frontof you.
Speaker 4 (01:47:53):
Here's the thing,
though Particles and waves move,
and the theory within the bookis that, in order to time travel
, you have to be able to vibrateat the speed of light without
actually moving.
So it's a conundrum.
It's not possible using light.
Speaker 1 (01:48:15):
So if only someone
built a really powerful vibrator
.
Speaker 2 (01:48:19):
Sabian machine.
Speaker 4 (01:48:20):
Maybe Daniel will.
Speaker 2 (01:48:25):
Sabian machine.
Speaker 1 (01:48:27):
I got you.
He has no idea what that, whatthat machine is, um, anyways,
back on topic hashtag in thechat oh, hi, josh, I don't know
who you are, but I Josh Holston.
Speaker 2 (01:48:45):
I saw your name a
couple times in the giveaways.
You're just lurking.
Speaker 4 (01:48:49):
I was like intrigued.
Speaker 2 (01:48:52):
Justin says he loves
your curls Dina.
Speaker 1 (01:48:56):
I bet Josh is a
cowboy.
Josh Holston sounds like a guywho's out on the range.
Speaker 4 (01:49:03):
Honestly, I was
thinking that too a little bit.
I was like hey, cowboy.
Felix is here, Hi boo hey.
Speaker 3 (01:49:13):
Hey.
Speaker 1 (01:49:16):
If only Felix and the
Art of Floating was a book
title.
Speaker 4 (01:49:20):
I'm not going to say
why, but I take back what I said
about Josh.
Hi friends Just got a message.
Hi friends, just got a message.
Speaker 2 (01:49:33):

Speaker 4 (01:49:59):

me your theory.
Oh, thank you, Felix, forwatching.
Speaker 2 (01:50:03):
All right, eight

Okay, so it just went to oneperson's name instead of
actually rolling.
