Margot and Meaks discuss season two, episode seven, “Pretty Much Dead Already,” in which we find Sophia, but it’s sad! We unpack how the writers made her death inevitable as soon as they made her a sign of hope and our complicated feelings around wanting a show that is not necessarily a positive, hopeful look at the apocalypse, but a show that also decides girls are not worth giving a personality outside of being a sign for men to build their characters around is also not a great look. Aside from that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the show? Welllllllll we really love this episode. We love the return of Feral Daryl, who wants to hunt for Sophia despite his injury, the incredible scene between him and Carol as they both question their faith in the search, and the resolution of that scene with an actual manly apology. Meaks loves Shane’s physicality shifts as he becomes scarier and walker-like while Margot is increasingly terrified. All this is in service to our big question for the episode: Who has been changed by the apocalypse, and is it possible to change back?
Other tangents and topics include: running and shouting around walkers for no good reason, Andrea continuing to look smoking hot, confusing anger for strength, the parable of the sower, and being the carrot, not the stick.
