Don Hansen (00:00):
Hello, it's been a while since I've created a video
, so I just wanted to createthis and share an update with
kind of why I haven't beencreating videos lately and am I
gonna be creating videos in thefuture and how long is it gonna
take.
So yeah, just a quick update.
My light's burnt out.

(00:21):
I'm not in a dungeon, I promiseyou.
I have to redo my entirelighting.
I don't know what I'm going todo with that, so we're just
clicking record and we're goingwith it.
But essentially, I hit kind of aburnout point where I have just
been spinning my wheels, notreally progressing in any

(00:42):
particular direction that Iwanted to, and I've kind of just
been getting by, and I am notsomeone that is satisfied with
just getting by.
It drives me nuts and it burnsme out.
Anytime, like even when I was adeveloper and I like coding I
really do Even when I was adeveloper and I was building
stuff and I had a great team, Ialways, like, had these

(01:06):
additional ambitions.
Always I've had it my entirelife where if I was only just
putting in 40 hours towards thecompany and being a developer, I
would get burned out if Iwasn't working on stuff that
actually really excited me.
And so, yeah, I've kind of beengoing the entrepreneurship
route.
I've been making this work,I've been paying my bills, but I

(01:29):
haven't been doing anythingsignificantly challenging at all
, like I'm kind of just doingthe same thing, that's just
paying my bills.
And then I was even livestreaming and pretending like I
was being productive and pushingmyself towards more ambitious
goals, and I just wasn't.
I was being productive andpushing myself towards more
ambitious goals and I justwasn't.
I was doing live streamingbecause I was avoiding what I

(01:51):
really wanted to do and what Ireally want to do and what I
really want to talk about.
I don't want to talk to youabout that yet, because I've
also discovered another thingSome people maybe you're like
this, but some people will holdthemselves accountable or get
others to hold them accountableby sharing what their goals are,
what they're going to do.

(02:13):
I'm not like that.
It's almost like if I sharewhat I'm going to do, I'm not
going to do it.
If I share my New Year'sresolutions, I'm not going to do
it.
By the way, one of my NewYear's resolutions was stop
drinking.
I did that for a couple months.
I shared that right in thebeginning I'm going to do this,
get really excited.
I shared that for a couplemonths and then, nope, I fell

(02:36):
off on that goal and you knowI've definitely tackled that and
I'm back on kind of the grindof losing weight, just being
really healthy again.
But you know it took a while torecover from.
But I feel like every time Ishare stuff with you guys that
I'm going to do, I just end upfailing it, I end up just not

(02:58):
succeeding.
And so I've discovered for me Iam someone that kind of just
needs to grind on my own, and ifyou find that like you're
sharing a bunch of stuff andthen you don't succeed with
those goals, I feel like maybeit's just me, but I feel like it
just reinforces a lack ofconfidence that I can get things

(03:23):
done and it almost doubles andtriples like the effect of it,
the feeling of it, when now I'mdisappointing everyone else and
I'm just not someone that canpublicly share my goals.
And so what I'm going to startdoing is sharing stuff that I
have already made prettysignificant progress on, and so

(03:46):
that's what I'm going to do forthis channel.
I have a ton of stuff, a ton ofchallenges that feel impossible
that I've set for myself in thefuture and I don't want to
share those yet.
But that's what I've been doing.
I've kind of just been taking astep back and thinking about,
like what the hell do I actuallywant to accomplish?
Let's revisit these like reallyalmost impossible ambitions

(04:09):
that I kind of set aside, andlet's revisit these and figure
out, like what the hell I reallywant to do in this world for
myself, for others, um, becauseI just can't keep getting by.
It's fucking boring.
It is so boring and uninspiringand I'm done with it.

(04:31):
So I kind of I like this ideaof like monk mode if you've ever
heard of it where you kind ofjust go solo, don't really talk
to anyone about it, and you justgrind and you focus on what you
want to focus on, without likesharing it to the world.
Like it's just you shut out thenoise and you just focus on you

(04:52):
and you don't need to convinceanyone else but you.
You don't need to hold anyoneelse or have anyone else hold
you accountable.
You were the one holdingyourself accountable, but you
just have anyone else hold youaccountable.
You were the one holdingyourself accountable, but you
just I feel like I had to shutout the noise, and I'm also
revisiting a content strategy.
I feel like I've just beencreating content around topics

(05:13):
that I don't give a shit aboutanymore.
I've been given developeradvice for so long and I still
will be giving developer advice, but I don't want to give
developer advice to satisfy theYouTube algorithm.
I want to share advice thatreally revolves around things
that I'm currently growing with, excited about, challenged with

(05:36):
and then integrating that backinto hey, how can I share this
in a way that might help otherpeople?
And that's the route I want togo with my content, and so I've
actually taken I'm taking acourse called Two Hour Writer by
Dan Kau or Ko.
It's really changed myperspective, like I've been
watching his videos for like ayear now, but I feel like what I

(06:00):
need to do for my channel isdrastically different than what
I'm doing, and what I want to donow actually really excites me.
Again, I'm not going to sharethat with you, but you'll see
the videos come out starting afew weeks from now, and I think
the result like what you guysare going to see is just more
well thought out content aroundtopics I actually want to talk

(06:23):
about, around things that I'mcurrently overcoming, things
that I'm learning and I want toshare back with you guys.
It's not just gonna be hey, let's only shit on AI, hey,
let's only give these five toten tips for new developers to
land that job.
Like, Just fuck the algorithm.

(06:44):
I'm so sick of it and Iactually feel like the more that
I just talk about what I wantto talk about, it actually does
well in the algorithm.
There's something about theYouTube algorithm that just
really screws you up as acontent creator, if you let it.
But YouTube is one of the bestplatforms out there, so at least

(07:04):
for, like, building youraudience and building a business
, I can't really complain.
It's just man.
It's just a lot of things thatI've had to learn as a content
creator.
I think I'm just tired of doingthe same thing over and over.
So, anyways, you should seenewer content, variation of
topics, and if they do well, great.
If they don't, I don't care.

(07:25):
I'm just going to post them.
I just don't care anymore.
So a couple things that I canshare that I made pretty
significant progress on.
I'm doing intermittent fasting, really checking my diet.
I've been pretty good about it.
I actually started progressingtowards trying to.

(07:46):
I want to participate in myfirst triathlon but I'm still
dealing.
I don't know if you've knownthis about me, but I've shared
this previously.
I was dealing with back issueswhere my back was going out.
Like that got to a point whereit's going out once every month.
It was crazy and I have this, like they call it, like this
interior pelvic tilt orsomething like that.
This is from like sitting, notdoing a bunch of squats, having

(08:07):
really weak glutes, really weakhamstrings, and I found that the
bike portion of the triathlonnot to mention it completely
numbs my balls and penis.
Not a fan of that.
I got to like find a differentseat or whatever.
I'm just using the bike at thegym.
I hate riding a bike.
I don't know how men do it, butI think it's something you get

(08:31):
used to, and I think I got toget a wider seat.
But I think I'm more focused onjust fixing the pelvic tilt,
getting stronger glutes andhamstrings and starting to do
legitimate squats with good formand put weight out of that.
I think it's going to be a longjourney for me because I've
really screwed up my back, butit's getting a lot better.
Again it like last year I wasthrowing out my back once every

(08:54):
month.
I'm like I'm 30 something yearsold.
Like my back should not begoing out this early.
This is crazy, but it's becauseI you know what I think it is.
I think it's because I've donethe elliptical for like 10 years
straight and I could do likemax settings with the elliptical
.
Any elliptical you give it tome I do max settings.
I do it for like 30 to 45minutes, easy.
My glutes are or wait, notglutes uh, quads front of the

(09:17):
legs.
They are way over trained, wayover trained, and I think that's
what's causing the instabilityand I have like a tight hip.
So my focus is stability andthen going into like more
compound movie movements andthen getting into heavy lifting
again, but with focusing on agood foundation and not just

(09:38):
bigger arms like I did when Iwas younger.
Um, so that's my goal and it'sit's a journey for me.
It's really's really fun, um,but I am very much focused on
improving myself withbodybuilding and getting a solid
foundation and I'm going to befocused on that for many years.
Um, and I'll share, like, if Istart getting into more compound

(10:02):
movements where, like becauseI've never squatted in my entire
life.
I actually want to share that.
Maybe it bores you.
I don't care, like I have neversquatted, never squatted in my
entire life.
I actually want to share that.
Maybe it bores you, I don'tcare, like I have never squatted
with good form in my entirelife, with significant weight.
I think that's going to be ahuge milestone.
Um, that might not seemimpossible to you, but it feels
very, very difficult for me.
Um, just because of how my bodyis, uh, screwed up at the

(10:24):
moment.
So I've been doing that, uh, um, but in terms of like, fitness,
I'm having fun with that, butI'm also I want to build my game
like a game, just, even if it'sa really shitty game.
I am learning three JS and I'mactually taking it seriously and
I'm um.
I'll show you once I get donewith the first module.
Um, it's a lot of hours justfor one module, a lot of modules

(10:46):
.
But I'll show you what I builtand it's.
It's going to be pretty bad,but I'm still having fun
building stuff with three JS.
If you don't know what it is,you could essentially build kind
of like um, take advantage ofweb GL or like isn't there
something that's replacing webGL?
It's a little bit moreoptimized.
I don't know, but I'm going tobe building a game with it.

(11:06):
You could build, like moreanimated stuff for websites.
Um, I think it's a really cooltool, a lot of depth.
It's not a game engine per se,but I think you can combine some
stuff Like I think there's likea physics library that's
recommended in the course Um.
By the way, I'm going throughthree journey.
I think it's a fantastic courseUm, but I'll I'll kind of share

(11:27):
like just milestones with thatwith you guys.
Um, I'm diving deeper into nest.
I'm diving deeper into actuallybuilding something that's
scalable on the back end, notsome hacky, uh node application.
I just, um, I'm kind of sick ofthe node environment.
I think nest gave me a new, revitalized uh excitement for it

(11:49):
and I you know I was goingthrough bootdev for the longest
time learning Python.
I'm going to be honest, likeI'll probably finish it.
But I think I'm just going todouble down on TypeScript.
Typescript has come a long way.
It's gotten faster and, man, there's a ton of stuff I want to
build and I don't think I wantto rotate languages.

(12:11):
Ton of stuff I want to buildand I don't think I want to
rotate languages.
I'm completely fine withJavaScript or TypeScript
everywhere, and I preferTypeScript over JavaScript.
Now, by the way, that wasn'tthe case before.
I think I'm just going to likedouble down on TypeScript and
I'm just getting really.
I'm just getting a lot morecomfortable with it, getting a
little bit more comfortable.
I want to get more comfortablewith Docker.
I want to get more comfortablewith trying to spit it up

(12:33):
through AWS, but I want to dealwith problems that force me to
optimize how I handle requestson the backend, and whether I
continue Twitch Sprout or notfor that purpose, I don't know,
but I'm just diving deeper intothe backend and I'm tripling
down on TypeScript.

(12:53):
So I just wanted to share thatand I have been creating anti-AI
videos just to feed thealgorithm and do reactions and
stuff like that, to keep up withvideos on my channel.
I still might do those.
Ai is really fucking cringe.
The overhype is really cringe.

(13:15):
I'm tired of AI being sold assomething it isn't.
Ai has been extremelydisappointing and I don't like
how there seems to be a pocketof people in our society that
doesn't really respect humancreativity, doesn't really

(13:37):
respect humans.
I get that feeling from somepeople, from some CEOs, where
they kind of just sell thisutopia where AI is going to fix
everything and all I see is AIcreating low quality, more
problems at work, kind ofpreventing people from actually

(14:00):
tackling stuff in their lifethat they need to tackle,
especially socially andrelationship wise, and people
getting addicted to likebuilding friends out of AI and
building girlfriends andboyfriends out of AI.
I feel like I like everythingthat I'm seeing points to AI

(14:22):
being much more of a detrimentto society than people had
initially proposed it, as inthis utopia, and I don't like
the progression that I'm seeing.
So I'm going to continuetalking about that.
In what capacity, I don't know, but you will probably hear more
from me with that.
Yeah, that's it.

(14:46):
If I have more to share, I'llprobably create another video.
Give me like two to three weeksbefore I start creating the
content that I want to create.
I think it's going to startwith writing.
It's going to start with maybea newsletter, maybe a blog post,
I don't know.
I'm going to finish to ourwriter and see where I land up
with that, but I do believe inwriting out a lot of my thoughts
, doing a little bit more properresearch and just being able to

(15:10):
solidify my opinion on thingsthat's well thought out, well
articulated, and be able todeliver that to you.
That's my goal to improve mycontent, because I feel like
I've always joked about it, butI'm kind of just like I'm not a
professional content creator.
My videos suck.
I'm not able to articulatethings as well as I want.

(15:30):
My videos suck.
I'm not able to articulatethings as well as I want, um,
and I just rant and sometimesstutter and I want to do better
with that.
So that's like a big focus ofmy uh, big focus of mine just
stuttered there.
We're getting better, but Iwant to focus on creating better
content and it's just going totake me a little bit to like
really change everything thatI'm doing.

(15:51):
So please be patient with that.
I'll probably create a coupleof updates or talk about a
random topic until I get to thatpoint, but hopefully you start
seeing a shift in my content forthe better.
If not, I tried.
But anyways, here's my update.
Hope you guys are doing welland I'll see you guys in the
next video.
