When we think about joy, we often associate it with receiving something, whether it's a blessing, a breakthrough, or an answered prayer. But one of the deepest, most fulfilling joys we can experience comes not from what we receive, but from what we give, when we serve the Lord with all our heart. The world often teaches us that happiness comes from serving ourselves, chasing our desires, building our own success, and seeking our own comfort. But the Bible teaches something completely different. True joy is found in serving God and others. Why is there joy in serving the Lord? One, we reflect the heart of Jesus Jesus, the Son of God, the King of kings, came not to be served but to serve. In Mark 10.45 he said, For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many. When we serve, we are following in his footsteps. Imagine for a moment, Jesus, the one who had all power, who could command legions of angels, who could have lived in the most luxurious palaces, he chose instead to humble himself and wash the feet of his disciples. He chose to spend time with the poor, the broken, the rejected. He chose the path of sacrifice, and in doing so, he demonstrated to us the joy of selfless love. Two, serving deepens our relationship with God. Serving is not just a duty, it is an opportunity to encounter God. When we serve, we step into his presence in a special way. Think of a time when you helped someone in need. Maybe you prayed for someone, encouraged them when they were down, or gave to someone in need. Didn't you feel something stir in your heart? That's the Holy Spirit filling you with the joy that only comes from walking in God's purpose. When we serve, we stop focusing on ourselves and start seeing God at work through us. We become His hands and feet, reaching the lost, healing the brokenhearted, and bringing light into the darkness. Three serving changes. Us. Many people think serving is just about helping others, but the truth is, it transforms us too. Acts 20.35 It is more blessed to give than to receive. When we serve, our perspective shifts. Our hearts become softer. Our faith grows stronger. We begin to care less about material things and more about eternal things. We stop worrying so much about what we don't have and start thanking God for what we do have. A heartwarming story. There was once a man who volunteered at a homeless shelter every weekend. At first he thought he was just helping others, but as the weeks passed, he realized that serving was changing him.
