After completing our two-part series on the Chris Watts family annihilation case, we needed to decompress. With drinks in hand (perhaps a few too many for Jesse), we processed our thoughts on this heartbreaking tragedy in real-time, offering a glimpse into how covering these stories affects us personally.

What makes this conversation unique is its authenticity. There's no script, no editing – just two people trying to make sense of a senseless tragedy while balancing respect for the victims with honest analysis. Jesse offers perspective as someone hearing many details for the first time, while Lindsay shares insights from her deeper research into the case.

For those who've followed our coverage of the Watts case, this companion video adds another dimension to understanding both the case and our approach to true crime storytelling. And for those just discovering us, it's a candid introduction to how we tackle these challenging subjects with both empathy and honesty.

Watch the full video on our YouTube channel, and subscribe to catch more behind-the-scenes moments as we continue exploring the stories that haunt us, inform us, and remind us of the fragility of human relationships.

So where I work we have anashville hot and we have a
comeback song lindsey, I envyyou for not having heartburn
like I do do you know whathelped with that?
Remember, I used to getheartburn, like you.
But you know what helped withthat my fasting, when I started
fasting.

Speaker 2 (03:24):
So you fast and then eat heartburn stuff Like makes
you have heartburn.
You don't have issues.
No, your ass, fuckingnon-Caucasian ass.
You have some.

Speaker 1 (03:41):
Jesse, I used to have to take some of your medicine.

minutes.
Look at her okay, hold on, letme lift it so new.

Speaker 2 (05:38):
This is our first video stuff.

Speaker 1 (05:41):

You gotta have the ball masonjar.
Okay, so it's got vodka, sodawater.

Speaker 2 (05:48):
Not there, lime All there.

Speaker 1 (05:51):
And it's topped with a lime Vista Bay.

Speaker 2 (05:54):
And something there.

Speaker 1 (05:55):
So, yeah, that is my drink for the episode that we're
going to record.

Speaker 2 (05:59):
I'm just drinking, alani, because I am fucking

We're fucking here.
Party party How's that Comedown?
A party?

(06:22):
What's a thumbs up?
Do you have something?
Fuck you, fucking, fuck youreal ass.
Fall over this here.
I mean, the realist is going toactually see this, because this
is only youtube stuff.
Yeah, yeah, it doesn't go onbuzzsprout and all the whole ass

(06:45):
fucking thing.
This is going straight youtubewill be.

Speaker 1 (06:49):
The audio will be, but not the video yeah right
yeah, I'll say I'll strip theaudio out, plug it on something
else, but anyhow all right, soyeah, we are recapping our
two-part series of Chris Wattsand I after okay, so after we

(07:10):
got done recording it, like wehad a whole day of Chris Watts.
It was traumatic so because werecorded both episodes in one
day, I think.

Speaker 2 (07:18):
Lindsay is on to something that is just like
marathon fucking podcast shitthat I am fully on to.
Oh, I'm going, I make this myfull-time job and I'm literally
fully on, like every bit of it,and you know what?

Speaker 1 (07:34):
I tied it on a little bit I did okay, so let's talk
about what I wrote first oh,okay my story, which is you know
it's.
It's not my story, it's thestory.
It's the, the.
You know the breakdown of thecase and then so we watched.

(07:55):
It was called um fuck, I'mgonna google american murder
documentary the family next door.
That's it, yeah.

Speaker 2 (08:05):
Family next door and you did store and we watched
some of that shit.

Speaker 1 (08:11):
So bad.

Speaker 2 (08:12):
So if you're with us, of what you talked about was in
this the fucking, the wholething.

Speaker 1 (08:18):
Yeah, but I also listened to the audio book which
is called the perfect father, and that is that also breaks it
down.
It has you know everything fromfront to finish, which gives a
little more detail about thelives of both Shanann and Chris
before they got married andbefore this horrific tragedy

(08:42):
happened.
Because Chris is now, he's afamily annihilator.

Speaker 2 (08:47):
that is his what did I say?
His way out was garbage andlike the whole fucking time.
It was like he built everythingup to his way out and it didn't
work and it was just like youhave created this whole fucking
thing, honestly, everybody, andit's not a good way out.

(09:11):
It didn't work.
You didn't have everythingplanned the right way to be a
criminal and to do that to yourfamily over a way it didn't work
.
You know, it really wasn't notfucking planned so we got, we
got shenan over here.

Speaker 1 (09:28):
She is a dominant um partner in the relationship.
And then you have Chris, who isvery passive.
He goes along with everything, whether he likes it or not,
without voicing his opinion, his, he doesn't have a voice.

(09:49):
Yeah, and that's not Shanann'sfault whatsoever.
We're not.
We're absolutely not victimblaming.
This should have never happened.
There's so many different waysthat you can end a relationship,
make it work successfully,co-parents and move on with your

(10:10):
lives separately.

Speaker 2 (10:11):
Right, exactly.

Speaker 1 (10:14):
It's always going to be rough in the beginning.
What are you doing?

Speaker 2 (10:18):
Nothing, I'll take that away.
So good, looking at doing whatwe're doing right now, all right
.

Speaker 1 (10:25):
Okay, so anyways.
So you know, chris, he doesn'tspeak up, he doesn't voice
what's really in his heart, what's really on his mind, so
that causes a lot of resentment, yeah two episodes of quiet
human being.

Speaker 2 (10:42):
That snapped is really what it is.
Lizzie took a sip because it isa lot to take in, holy shit
well, and also you know that itwas.

Speaker 1 (10:53):
There was uh toxicity , if you will yeah from the
beginning, from chris's familyyeah chris's family hated shenan
right off the rip.
They judged her on the size ofher home.
Um, they judged her on being adivorced woman, which yeah and

(11:15):
eating seeds is a pastime.
Toxicity wait activity of ourcity the toxicity of our city of
our city yeah, yeah, whatever,I'm sorry, okay, but anyways

(11:36):
yeah, um so chris's family hatesshenan right off the rip fuck
yeah um, so they are out oftheir lives for a while until
she has their first.

Speaker 2 (11:45):
Like they didn't come to the wedding, nothing no, um,
like the grandma, grandma anddid the dance and and it was
just that was beautiful, but butlike don't fucking.

Speaker 1 (11:56):
And the wedding was beautiful.

Speaker 2 (11:57):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (11:59):
Yeah, it's all out there.
You can literally watch.
You can watch the documentary, you can watch the wedding on
YouTube, on shit.
I found it on Google.
Fuck.
Yeah, I did not.

Speaker 2 (12:11):
I did not dive into that fucking deep.
I mean, we'll watch this shit.
Well, of course.

Speaker 1 (12:16):
Yeah, because I usually will find a good
documentary that I know Jessecan watch and pay attention to
after a case that I've covered,so that he can put faces with
names.
Yes, you can make it a littlebit more personal for you.

Speaker 2 (12:31):
And usually at this time my attention is nanoseconds
, honestly for you, and usuallyat this time my attention is
nanoseconds, honestly, and notthat, not that like I'm fully
and not in fully investedbecause I love your stories and
everything but holy shit, that'sa lot to take in.
It is and watch all that andknow all the history that you've
dumped on me and I don't evenhave a plant over here that I

(12:55):
can fucking get to no, well, notfor video.

Speaker 1 (12:57):
Yeah, he will for the episode and look at, well, you
can't see the plant it's in fullbloom right now the plant is in
full bloom over there.
I want to show you guys theplant eventually, I swear to god
I'm gonna take a picture of itwhile it's blooming and we'll
post it.

Speaker 2 (13:11):
It's the plant that supports me honestly, Because
she is just like dumping all thehorrific things on me.

Speaker 1 (13:22):
Well, I'm saying I'm going to take a picture of it
and post it on our Instagramstory, so make sure you do this
on Instagram DrinkAboutSomethingsite yeah.

Speaker 2 (13:31):
DrinkAboutSomething on Instagram.

Speaker 1 (13:35):
Somethingsite is our website, and then you can follow
our personal Facebook pages.
Lindsay Samba just to stand by.

Speaker 2 (13:44):
This is the time of year, Honestly, when our plant
looks so amazing it does.
It's so beautiful.

Speaker 1 (13:49):
I mean wait, what did you just do?

Speaker 2 (13:51):
I hit something, okay , so don't pay attention to me
the whole time.
I swear to God, you guys, thankyou guys for hanging on.

Speaker 1 (14:00):
Shanann and Chris get married.
They are now living in Colorado.
They have uprooted from NorthCarolina to Colorado, which
pissed Chris's family off.

Speaker 2 (14:13):
She had a sweet-ass house Beautiful, house Beautiful
.
Oh, she had a sweet ass, houseBeautiful, oh my God.

Speaker 1 (14:18):
Definitely look that up.
If you did not watch our storyon Friday um leading up to the
case.

Speaker 2 (14:25):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (14:25):
Yeah, it's, it was I mean she.
She did the damn thing at like25 years old, yeah, but
unfortunately she got healthproblems.
But then she met Chris andeverything seemed to be going
good.
They had really good payingjobs.
She sold her house in NorthCarolina.
They move out to Colorado andthey buy another house there.

Speaker 2 (14:47):
It's a lot Then they have baby girl.

Speaker 1 (14:50):
They have first baby girl, Bella.

Speaker 2 (14:51):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (14:52):
And that's when she makes amends with chris's family
.
She's like okay, y'all arewelcome back in my house or
welcome back into our lives.

Speaker 2 (15:01):
We want you to be a part of bella's life which
chris's family is kind of likefuck you to her.

Speaker 1 (15:07):
You know the whole time, the whole time, the
honestly whole last time and I'mnot, I mean, like said, no
victim blaming whatsoever here, but there were things that
Shanann could have donedifferently as well.

Speaker 2 (15:18):
Well, yeah, it's like dragging along to the point
where she was like kind ofreally over living their means
and not.
Well, that's what I was goingto talk about next.

Speaker 1 (15:28):
Yes, you know they they're living beyond their
means.
Shanann's in charge of thefinances.
She puts them in a big hole, yeah, that they cannot dig their
way out of without filingbankruptcy.

Speaker 2 (15:39):
Yeah, kids and things , too much money.

Speaker 1 (15:44):
And then they want to introduce another baby into it.
Well, I haven't got to babynumber two yet You're fixing to
get into that yeah.
Baby one.
So then they have baby numbertwo, baby two, after baby two,
which is, which is cc.
Celeste.
Uh, catherine, celeste, catherine, yes, um, that's after
she's born, that's when theyfile for bankruptcy which a lot
of that was their mortgage andum medical bills, and then their

(16:09):
wedding yeah so they do that.
Their um, their debt wasdischarged after they took a
financial course online.
That was ordered by the judge, and so they have two babies.
They have Bella and Celeste andthey all have between Shanann,

(16:30):
bella and Celeste.
They have a lot of medicalissues.

Speaker 2 (16:32):
Yes.

Speaker 1 (16:33):
And they have to be hospitalized a lot.
The nose start racking up againand Shanann is working less,
but she's reaching out and she'strying to get a second income
with some MLMs.

Speaker 2 (16:47):
Yes.

Speaker 1 (16:48):
And she finds a profitable one.
A successful one because I doshare some of my own MLM stories
on those episodes and if youdon't join those companies when
they hit the ground running, youain't making no money.

Speaker 2 (17:06):
Yeah, you got to put everybody above you to make the
money, and it was just like.

Speaker 1 (17:11):
Under you, not above you Well above under.
You were going to be the top ofthe pyramid.

Speaker 2 (17:14):
We were just like the top of the pyramid, at the
bottom of the pyramid, whateverpeople that are actually doing
your job for you, whicheverupper above, I don't understand
how that works, so you want tobe at the top of the pyramid you
want to be at the top here, everybody below you and then yes
yes expand down to the pyramid.

Speaker 1 (17:35):
You want to get everybody under you and so, yeah
, she's at the top of thepyramid.
She gets a lot of people underher.
She becomes very successfulwith this company, with the
Thrive products.
And then, chris, he startstaking these products and he
successfully loses a lot ofweight.
He started out at 245.

(17:56):
He gets down to about 180, 185,somewhere in there.
And but there's a point where,in the story that you, he is
taking like double patches, he'sdoubling up.
He's got one on each arm.
And I don't know how thoseproducts work.
I've never tried them.
I did compare it though.

(18:17):
If you take, say you're taking, adipex, which is a weight loss
pill, very highly caffeinated,it builds, it has everything

(18:41):
inside, it makes everythinginside of you just come to the
surface.
You are somewhat jittery, youare.
You need to expel all of thisenergy that it makes you feel
like you've got going on.
And he was like he was cleaning, he was cooking, he was, you
know, working his job.

Speaker 2 (18:49):
I kind of feel like honestly not to interrupt you.
I feel like she was pushing himinto that.
That way she would have proofof her business and success of
him having it.
You know, yeah, she was likeeverything was just full on all
fucking on her social media andeverything and it was just like

(19:11):
she was using him a little bitright there at that point to
push him into pushing herproduct Does that make sense.

Speaker 1 (19:19):
I don't know about.
I don't see it as using ifyou're married to somebody
that's trying to be successfulin a support, support.

Speaker 2 (19:27):
But at the same time she probably talked him into
doing the second dose that heshouldn't have been taken.
I don't know, we don't know, wedon't know, we don't know, we
don't know that, we don't knowthat.
But I think she was kind ofpushing him into something that
he was obviously this is humbleopinion, yeah he was obviously
uncomfortable with and he didn'twant to be on social media at

(19:48):
all.
No, he was not comfortable withhe was kind of a drawn back kind
of person that didn't want tobe on all the fucking the views
of everybody else.
And then he and and she wasjust like plug in, plug in, plug
in her little play fuckingbusiness thing and not play, I
mean, she was making money yeah, she was making money but she
stepped away from a good career.

(20:10):
You got to balance both of them.
I feel like mlms and everythinglike pyramid schemes and all
and all the shit that goes on atthat time.
Everybody else is beyond that.

Speaker 1 (20:21):
Okay, but at the same time, being a woman, I
understand this a little more.
If you've got children withhealth problems and you find a
business where you can work athome, and give you a little bit
more ease and take care of yourkids and stuff.
But Shanann insisted that thesegirls go to daycare.

Speaker 2 (20:38):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (20:39):
So that she could be more productive in her business.
But at the same time that'sfine, that's healthy,
understandable, because that'sstill your job.
But if you work from home, youdon't have to answer to anybody
else when you go have to, whenyou have to go get your kids and
pick them up because they'rehaving a medical emergency or
they're sick or anything likethat.
Workability I understand whyshe would want to push really

(21:04):
hard to make that successful, because she could.

Speaker 2 (21:07):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (21:07):
Even though the kids are in daycare and they can't
afford it.
They can't, they cannot affordit.

Speaker 2 (21:13):
No, they could not afford it.
They were bankrupt before allthat Right Really was.

Speaker 1 (21:17):
So I don't know how bankruptcy works.
Is it just like wipe out yourdebt?

Speaker 2 (21:22):
You're trying to reach for a full forgiveness for
everything that you can't payfor, and then they'll
consolidate that into somethingthat you can pay for.

Speaker 1 (21:34):
Okay, so you still have to make payments on this
debt.

Speaker 2 (21:37):
Usually, yeah, okay, yeah, usually.
No they can't zero it out.
There's something that you haveto still consolidate that into.

Speaker 1 (21:47):
Well, what does it mean by when it's, I mean cause
it's in the book, it's in likedocuments, that their debt was
discharged.
What does that mean?

Speaker 2 (22:00):
Well, fuck dude, I want to do that.
I don't understand that becauseI haven't tried that.
Okay, so I do know I want to belike fuck you, dude, I want to
pay anything else ever again.

Speaker 1 (22:04):
Give me a zero, and then we'll restart, but I do
know that that stays with youfor seven, at least seven years,
seven to ten years I'm likeI'll take seven issues you're
not supposed to be.
It's not supposed to be easyfor you to go get into more debt
no yeah no, they did and eventhough I don't know, I don't.

Speaker 2 (22:22):
Is she burpy?
But I don't.
I don't know how that works, because if I did, and I would be
like I want to pull that plugtoo, because if it's zero out
everything and you got a littleblack mark whatever.

Speaker 1 (22:36):
If it was that simple , everybody would do it, so
there's gotta be some.

Speaker 2 (22:40):
They got stipulation so they consolidate everything,
put it together and they make ita workable thing.
You still gotta fucking pay it,I guarantee it right.

Speaker 1 (22:49):
And then you know, with the thrive, I guess, once
you got to a certain level theygave you a car credit.
Now it was made to seem likeThrive was paying for her a new
car, and that was not the caseat all.
She had Chris trade in hisMustang, which don't do that to

(23:10):
your husband, I mean you didthat on your show?

Speaker 2 (23:15):
Let's throw it back.
Let's throw it back.
Okay, I had a Mustang and amotorcycle when we first met
Right.

Speaker 1 (23:20):
Did I pressure you to do any of that?
To buy anything for me?
You?

Speaker 2 (23:23):
did not.
I had a Mustang, a cool assmotorcycle.
I rode your kids around and Iloved it Mustang was special.
Yeah.
This was 40th anniversary 40thanniversary Mustang.

Speaker 1 (23:36):
It was pretty iconic actually, but at the same time,
I've never been really a personthat's into vehicles, so I don't
understand the hype oversomething special.
No, no.

Speaker 2 (23:48):
To me it was.
It was pretty iconic.
But I was willing to trade allthat because we were trying to
level up.

Speaker 1 (23:55):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (23:55):
Does that make sense?
And I gave away the and I gaveaway the motorcycle, gave away
the mustang, and then I gotsomething.
Then I got selfish after that, remember, remember?
I got the van and then I waslike you know what, I want my
jeep.
So so there's like inrelationships period, but I
didn't require you to tradeanything in that for me to have,
you did not, you did not, youdid not have as a personal

(24:17):
vehicle, you did not, you didnot.

Speaker 1 (24:18):
So, as far as that was all you period, that was
your thought.
Yeah, yeah, yeah andrelationships go like.

Speaker 2 (24:24):
Honestly, there's ebb and flow, like whatever.
People do a lot of crazy shitin relationships, especially
when they get a little bit olderand they're trying to have that
workability.
A little bit older and they'rethey're trying to have that
workability, and we were justlike in this new situation and
everything.

Speaker 1 (24:44):
I don't understand, though, why they got into
bankruptcy and didn't balancetheir fucking livelihood and
then have a third child afterthat well, yeah, that was what
came next that was where I wastrying to build up to well, hold
on, because I know a lot moreof the story than you do so you

(25:05):
do way more, way more that'sonly because I read the all
right, you did the work, you didthe.
So when they were trying forNico, according to even Chris,
they wanted this baby.
They were trying for it, but atthe same time, when that's

(25:27):
going on, chris is over here.
He's already talking to NikkiKessinger.

Speaker 2 (25:31):
His co-worker, right, yeah, he's already talking to
her.

Speaker 1 (25:34):
And then when Shanann gets pregnant, then he's like
now on video, the video that shemade for him.
You've seen it.
He looks happy, right.

Speaker 2 (25:46):
I mean, he looks ecstatic he was not, though.

Speaker 1 (25:48):
He was already getting sick of Shanann, he was
already blossoming arelationship with Nikki, and
that's where everythingliterally just started spiraling
down.

Speaker 2 (26:00):
So unhealthy as video .
Public persona on social mediais not healthy.
No, you got it.
You got to have all your shitright.
I mean everybody can play hunkydory on social media.
Does that make sense?

Speaker 1 (26:20):
oh yeah yeah oh, there goes the refrigerator
refrigerator is making ice.
We usually edit that out of ourum of our full episodes yeah,
so like, and I understand that.

Speaker 2 (26:31):
I did not understand that until when you put out this
fucking story.
It was just like everybodywants to be happy and play their
whole relationship on video.

Speaker 1 (26:44):
Well, not everybody, but online personas.

Speaker 2 (26:47):
You have to have your shit right, yeah, and do the
right things.
I didn't understand that untilnow and that's a great like
healing for you and I, becausewe've had a lot of back and
forth, whatever, and we're likeyou know what, we're going to
play real things for me and youRight, you know, does that make
sense?
So you have to have your shittogether if you want to plug all

(27:11):
of your life to the public.
And they weren't ready, theyweren't real.

Speaker 1 (27:17):
And they were ready, they weren't real and they were
struggling, but shenan thoughtthey were fine yeah because
chris never spoke up that's henever shared things that were
bothering him, until he didsomething horrific yes, and I
say all that because ofcommunication, full-on fucking
communication.

Speaker 2 (27:36):
Dude did not nut up enough to put it out there and
either talk it out, fight it outand end it out or build it out.
You know like you need to cometogether.

Speaker 1 (27:50):
Yeah, he never came to Shanann one time and said I
don't like this.

Speaker 2 (27:59):
The build fucking did not happen at all.

Speaker 1 (28:00):
It was breakdown the whole time.
Chris never came to shenan onetime and said I don't like being
online.
Yeah, I don't like our livesbeing online you could tell he
didn't I don't, um, I don'tappreciate you putting us in
debt the way that you have.
If he had just come forward andspoke his piece about things,
instead of being passive andsneaky and things like that,

(28:27):
this could we wouldn't besitting here.

Speaker 2 (28:29):
I'm not going to introduce any of the backstory
on him.
Honestly, you have to go backand listen to the first episode,
second episode, to find out hiswhole ass, fucking persona.
Because it was just, he wasjust like the yes man, the whole
time, 100%, 100%.
The yes man that broke and tellhim about the brokenness.

(28:52):
I mean honestly, the brokennesswas just explosive.
Well okay, so you know.

Speaker 1 (29:01):
I mean, I honestly think, if he had never met Nikki
Kessinger, he would havecontinued to be a yes man for
forever.

Speaker 2 (29:07):
I think so.

Speaker 1 (29:08):
When he meets Nikki Kessinger and he's lost all this
weight, he's got newfoundconfidence and puts all his eggs
in that basket.
But instead of doing, the thingthat most of us would do would
be like hey, I don't love youanymore, we're going to divorce
and we're going to figure outwhat we need to do to co-parent

(29:29):
these children, yeah, and we'regoing to go on our separate ways
.
He chose to annihilate hiswhole family.

Speaker 2 (29:37):
Yes.

Speaker 1 (29:38):
And that's not the answer.

Speaker 2 (29:39):
Not, not the answer.

Speaker 1 (29:41):
Then, when he was caught, he actually tried to
blame Shanann for theannihilation of his children.

Speaker 2 (29:49):
He was trying to look for a way out.
He thought he had it figuredout to begin with and the story
transpired in the middle of hisinterrogation.
Honestly, I feel like in themiddle of his interrogation.

Speaker 1 (30:04):
That they knew.
The investigators knew abouthis affair.
I believe that's when he knewthat it was all over.

Speaker 2 (30:11):
And we're not going into details and I'm slurring
because I'm drunk as fuck rightnow.

Speaker 1 (30:18):
He's going to drink some water and have a little bit
more, a little bit more alani.
But okay, sponsor us alani, send me some free shit.

Speaker 2 (30:25):
Yes, so we're not going into details and I'm still
fucking slurring.
Holy shit.
Lindsey fuck, did I know?
Water fuck.
But anyhow, period are inepisode ones and twos.

Speaker 1 (30:42):
But also at the same time, Jesse lives under a rock,
and I know that most of mylisteners probably already know
this case.
I'm allowed to.
Most of our listeners probablyalready knew this case, and this
is just a recap, because Jesseis still flabbergasted from the
whole situation and now I'mabout to tell him about a whole
new one oh, she has a new one, yeah, for for Friday oh, lindsay

(31:07):

Speaker 2 (31:10):

some jumping jacks okay, whatever, we're gonna do
something, holy shit this hasbeen our raw, unedited and uncut

This is what I look like when Iput on makeup.
Instead of being an ugly toadat home, I like being an ugly
toad fucking, always fucking, amazingly hot lindsey damn it
