(01:16):
creepy, like it was like soft.
We're going into part two.
So I creep on in, like you know, kind of easing into the jam,
you know.
Speaker 1 (01:26):
Like it was like soft
.
We're going into part two.
Speaker 2 (01:28):
Like in like a lamb
and out like a lion or whatever.
Speaker 1 (01:32):
Of Chris Watts.
Speaker 2 (01:33):
Yeah, this is the
lion, part Rawr.
Speaker 1 (01:37):
Rawr.
So, like I said, this wasoriginally supposed to be a
one-parter.
Jesse was like holy fuck, lindsay, we gotta break this up.
Speaker 2 (01:44):
Had to.
Speaker 1 (01:45):
So we only had what
made us feel old for one week.
So now we gotta come off thetop of our heads.
What else makes us feel?
Speaker 2 (01:55):
old Hmm.
Speaker 1 (01:59):
Awkward silence.
Speaker 2 (02:02):
Oh, I'm supposed to
talk now, uh-huh.
Speaker 1 (02:05):
He's going to the
plant.
The peace lily is going to givehim the answers.
Speaker 2 (02:10):
Oldness manifestation
here.
Okay, I was like I don't wantto.
I don't know, I like Well,you've been constipated.
Stomach problems.
Yeah, how's that?
Speaker 1 (02:21):
I hope you out there.
Yeah, thank you, yeah, lindsay.
Speaker 2 (02:24):
You're welcome.
Stomach problems make you feelold, mm.
Hmm, yeah, yeah, cause that isthat am I, am, I am I good, did
I just check a?
Check mark there.
Speaker 1 (02:34):
Are we good, can we?
Speaker 2 (02:35):
move on.
Is it your turn?
Speaker 1 (02:37):
So I want to say that
, say that, okay, this morning
we did talk about this in one ofthe episodes we just recorded.
We watched my Girl.
Speaker 2 (02:48):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:49):
And those kids were.
Speaker 2 (02:53):
Oh, fuck, yeah,
watching movies and then seeing
kids that were kids in themovies and now they're older
than us.
Speaker 1 (03:00):
They're not older.
Well, they are older than usactually.
Yeah, we were just watching myGirl today.
So Macaulay Culkin was aroundour age when that movie came out
, because he's not much olderthan us.
He was 11 years old when thatmovie was made.
He's now 44 years old.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
See yeah, that makes
you feel old as shit.
Speaker 1 (03:19):
Uh-huh Ugh.
And then let's see how old AnnaChumley was it her.
And then let's see how old AnnaChumley was.
It's not Chumsley, it'sChlumsky.
She is also 44 years old.
Yeah, they were both born in1980, which is just a year older
than you, two years older thanme, and yeah, we just introduced
(03:41):
that to our 11-year-old todaybecause it's kind of a rite of
passage.
Speaker 2 (03:45):
Yes, it does.
That's a good you need to watch.
Speaker 1 (03:47):
You need to watch my
girl.
Speaker 2 (03:48):
That's a good one to
relate to Make you feel old as
shit, yeah, he can't see withouthis glasses.
He can't see without hisglasses.
Speaker 1 (03:58):
Choking back the
tears Fuck.
Speaker 2 (03:59):
DNA.
Speaker 1 (04:00):
Well, and I was also
talking about how, when they cut
their selves and makethemselves blood brothers, how,
when we were growing up, theAIDS epidemic was a big deal and
they were having assemblies, yes, to tell us that you can't
do that, yeah, you can't mixyour blood because it could be
dangerous.
So don't, don't do that unlessyou're like marrying the person,
(04:22):
like I.
We had even thought about doingthat for our marriage ceremony
because that was a Creek thing, right?
Speaker 2 (04:28):
Yeah, where you cut
each other, yeah, yeah, a lot of
, a lot of.
Speaker 1 (04:32):
We didn't do it A lot
of culturalistic, like
religious ceremonies and doingthat.
Speaker 2 (04:37):
I mean it goes, I
mean Celtic people did it, I
mean it's everywhere.
Speaker 1 (04:40):
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah,
it was in many.
And well, I'm saying, maybe forvow renewal, we'll like, we'll,
we'll mix our break out thehatchet and just fucking yeah.
I know I'm going to be a littlebitch.
I'm going to be like no, Idon't even like get my finger
pricked for blood sugar tests,so we'll see how that goes.
Yeah, that's going to just isgoing to have to hold me down.
Ass knife dug out of the yardsomewhere.
Here you go.
Have you ever noticed that, like any time you move to a new
(05:11):
home, you always find a rustyass knife in the yard?
We did, yeah, we did I kept itfor a while.
Speaker 2 (05:17):
Yeah, it's crazy.
Weird why, I don't know.
Speaker 1 (05:20):
Now, like when I was
growing up, I would find the
shit like that all the time.
But, like you know, my dad grewup there and him and his
cousins they played in that yard.
They did some boy shit and therewas yeah, there was three boys
and one girl, because when myuncle, when his wife, passed
away, he and his two boys andone girl moved in with my dad,
(05:42):
who was an only child, and my itwas my granny and my papa.
Yeah, they had, you know, memories on that property.
And then when we moved, when mygranny passed away, when I was
about six years old five, notquite six, almost six there was
all kind of treasures all overthat property it's's fun
(06:03):
discoveries.
Yeah, and we had it here too, mason jars and shit like in the
yard, like what were we alldoing?
Speaker 2 (06:10):
No money in them
Nothing.
No money in them, nothing cool.
Speaker 1 (06:12):
Just Mason jars.
They were probably drinkingsome sweet tea out of them and
just threw it in the fuckingyard.
Speaker 2 (06:16):
I'll get that later
yeah.
Speaker 1 (06:18):
Ooh, Florida
thunderstorm.
Speaker 2 (06:20):
Oh yeah, we're fixing
to get a nice shower.
Speaker 1 (06:22):
Yes, so we've already
grilled our meats, we have done
our thing, we have beenrecording for hours and here we
are.
Speaker 2 (06:30):
Still marathoning
with you.
Speaker 1 (06:32):
Marathoning and going
into Chris Watts Part 2.
Speaker 2 (06:37):
Yes, now it is time,
lindsay, for you to destroy me
once again.
Speaker 1 (06:42):
So a little quick
recap For you to destroy me Once
again.
So a little quick recap.
Chris Watts and Shanann RusekMet around.
I think it was like 2008.
Is that right?
Somewhere in there, 2008, 2009.
We are now in 2018.
They have been married, theyhave moved from North Carolina
to Colorado, they have twolittle girls and, even though
(07:06):
they are drowning in debt andbankruptcy, they're trying for
child number three.
Speaker 2 (07:12):
And she's kind of
keep, she keeps piling it on.
He's just kind of reserved, she's not.
Speaker 1 (07:17):
She's in charge of
the finances and she's not good
at it, yeah, and he's lettingher build up something else,
shedan wears the pants in therelationship.
Chris is the passive one thatgoes along with everything,
which is a different form oftoxic.
Speaker 2 (07:31):
Yes, but they're both
talented, but they're not using
their talents correctly.
He is.
Speaker 1 (07:39):
Well, Chris works for
Anadarko Petroleum.
He had been a master mechanicat a Ford dealership.
His dream was to work forNASCAR, but that didn't work out
.
They're in Bloomfield, Colorado.
Well, actually they're in adifferent little city, a little
suburb of Colorado outside ofBloomfield and a little growing
town, a little HOA littlehomeowners association.
(08:01):
She has now become a full-timesales and spokesperson for
thrive products, which was likeweight loss protein shakes but
all the money is not working out.
Speaker 2 (08:14):
She's kind of well
she they're making money
self-short, they're just notgood at managing it, yeah uh,
and which I am so sorry to pointout, the actual facts here.
Speaker 1 (08:25):
Shanann is in charge
of the money and she's not good
at managing it, so here we gofor part two.
So they are trying for babynumber three, which we did talk
about.
How irresponsible that is,especially in the 2018 or even
now 2025 economy.
If you're already in drowning, debt and bankruptcy and you
(08:50):
already have two kids, it'sprobably not a good idea, until
you are financially stable, totry for another one.
No matter if you just wantanother kid for selfish reasons
or are trying to save yourmarriage.
Don't do it.
Speaker 2 (09:09):
It's not in this
economy, as the saying goes, not
healthy, more drama, morethings, and they're hiding it
with their social media andacting like everything's all
hunky-dory, yeah, like.
Speaker 1 (09:19):
I say Shanann is very
, very active on social media.
Yeah, I would say Shanann isvery, very active on social
media.
She posts pretty much her wholelife on there, with her
personal life, with her Thrivebusiness and with Chris's weight
loss.
Yeah, he's successful on it,he's successful in the weight
loss, but at the same time, he'skind of overdoing it, so we're
(09:40):
going to get into that.
So now Chris has lost so muchweight that his wedding ring no
longer fits and Shanann evenposts about that and even though
they were trying for anotherbaby, he didn't have it resized
and he just stopped wearing italtogether.
And the truth was, chris wasactually kind of sick of Shanann
(10:02):
and the way she criticized himconstantly and okay, let me and
let me put this out there itwasn't a yelling, belligerent
criticism, it was.
It was also a passive, aggressive criticism on her side
.
Like you can, if you watch oneof the documentaries on this
case, you can see video footageof him dressing up as Santa
(10:26):
Claus this year, the year thatthis all goes down, or the year
before, actually, because we'rein 2018.
So Christmas, 2017, there is avideo he dresses up as Santa.
The kids are scared, shanann'skind of antsy about it.
He hasn't really gone accordingto her plan, he hasn't done
(10:47):
things according to her plan, and you can see a little bit of
the background of how this is avery dominant submissive
relationship.
Speaker 2 (10:57):
Right Now she's
losing control, right, she feels
like you know she's not havinghim go along with everything.
Speaker 1 (11:03):
No, he did go along
with it.
She feels like you know she'snot having him go along with
everything.
No, he did go along with it.
What I'm saying is he's goingalong with it, but you can see
how kind of pissy she gets ifeverything doesn't go according
to plan.
Speaker 2 (11:12):
Oh yeah, yeah, but
eventually she's going to lose
control, like of him, right, I'mthinking ahead.
Speaker 1 (11:19):
I'm sorry.
Speaker 2 (11:21):
Just, let me tell the
story Just let me puddle on my
own, okay.
Speaker 1 (11:24):
So Shanann criticizes
him and now the girls like
Bella and Celeste they are fourand three years old and they're
kind of picking up on thisbehavior.
They're kind of thinking it'sokay to talk to daddy in this
language.
He doesn't like that and Iunderstand that.
I understand that aspect.
(11:45):
You don't want your little babygirls, the love of your lives,
the light of your life, to becriticizing you and mimicking
your wife's behavior.
That's not, it's not cool.
I mean, that's what's going oninside the household yes.
And thoughts of a new lifewithout Shanann began creeping
(12:05):
into his head.
But one day, when he got homefrom work, shanann had the
camera set up and was wearing ashirt that said oops, we did it
again, revealing that she waspregnant with baby number three.
And on camera Chris seemsreally happy, like he's.
His face like lights up when hesees what's written on her
(12:28):
shirt, gives her a hug and akiss and says even like well,
when you're trying, you know, Iguess things happen.
You know, like I said a littlein the last episode, chris
started taking a double dose ofthe Thrive Patches and this made
him very energetic and a lotmore talkative.
One of the people he became alot more talkative with was
(12:48):
Nikki Kessinger.
Speaker 2 (12:51):
His work.
The chick at his work.
The chick at his work.
Speaker 1 (12:53):
I think it was like
the only chick at his work.
Okay, and Nikki noticed thatChris wasn't wearing a redding
wing anymore and was under theimpression that it was okay to
talk to him as well.
And she had already looked atboth of their profiles and
started she had already lookedat both of them and she did know
that they were married, but hewasn't wearing a wedding ring
(13:14):
anymore.
Speaker 2 (13:15):
So she was kind of
seeking him out.
Just as well, both had eyes.
Speaker 1 (13:19):
And when they had
their real first conversation he
did immediately say that he wasmarried but that he and Shanann
were separating.
But they weren't.
But he did proudly show herpictures of the girls of Bella
and Cece.
That was his lock screen on hisphone.
Speaker 2 (13:38):
Proud of his kids.
Speaker 1 (13:39):
Yeah, yes, Now later
Nikki will email him thanking
him for being honest, and Chrisreplies saying well, you know
I'm just a straightforward guy.
Lying just complicates things, but I think you're absolutely
stunning and what I've learnedabout you so far, you seem like
(14:00):
you're an amazing person and Iwant to get to know you better,
since we have a lot in common.
She replies that she enjoyedtalking to him as well, and this
is pretty much the beginning ofan emotional affair.
The beginning messages wereexchanged on the work email,
then they exchanged numbers andChris would have her saved as
(14:24):
APC Health and Safety, environmental, and the flirting
would be more and more frequentas time went on.
Now, shanann, she is continuingto post loving posts to her
husband about her husband lovingfamily photos the whole online
persona that quite a fewfollowers had enjoyed seeing
(14:44):
every day.
Speaker 2 (14:45):
With a brand new bun
in the oven.
Speaker 1 (14:46):
Yes, and Chris and
Shanann go on a Thrive trip to
San Diego and Shanann's dad heflies in to watch the girls and
Frank.
He notices a little change inChris, that he's a little
disconnected, a little moreshort-tempered with the girls
(15:07):
and yelling at them like he hadnever seen Chris act like that
before and at this point they'vebeen together about eight years
and he thought maybe that ithad something to do with the
Thrive products.
And I kind of agree with Frankthere.
I did talk about this in theprevious episode.
Agree with Frank there.
I did talk about this in theprevious episode.
(15:28):
When you are on a weight losssupplement that has a lot of
caffeine and you are not beingable to exert as much energy as
you're supposed to, for thatmuch caffeine it can make you
short-tempered angry, very moodswings type thing.
Yeah, while on the San Diegotrip, shanann's Thrive team
(15:49):
members and friends wereabsolutely floored on the
transformation of Chris, who hadgone from dad bod to slim and
buff.
And you, I mean, all of that isonline.
You can see it's a hugedifference.
Buff and you, I mean, all ofthat is online.
You can see it's a hugedifference.
Like I said, he was always agood looking dude, but his body
(16:11):
like completely changed likefrom their marriage videos to
the 2018 videos he is.
He literally had.
He was a little chunky, littledad body, still a cutie patootie
.
Then he gets slim and buff andit's.
It is a big transformation.
Nicole Atkinson, which was avery good friend of I, told you
(16:33):
there was a couple of Nicolesand a Nikki.
Nicole Atkinson, who was afriend of Shanann's, would
describe Chris, Chris andShanann's interactions on this
trip as super lovey-dovey.
But Chris, he had alreadyplanned to meet up with Nikki
when he got back.
Speaker 2 (16:50):
Oh, he couldn't wait
to get it over with yeah.
Speaker 1 (16:53):
Now, shanann, she was
because now she's she's doing
Thrive full time so she can makeher own hours, she can do her
own thing.
She was planning to go to NorthCarolina with her girls to
spend some time with family forthe whole summer.
A total of six weeks, wow, yeah, and Chris, he would join them
in the very last week, so shewould be there by herself with
(17:15):
the girls for five weeks.
Chris was going to join them inthe sixth week.
Now, chris, he was actuallyreally excited for her to leave
because he was planning onspending time with Nikki, like
that was already, so the switchhas already been flipped.
Switch has been flipped.
Speaker 2 (17:29):
He's starting to
throw away his family, his
everything.
Pretty much yeah the change.
Speaker 1 (17:34):
Before I go any
further like I did.
I have said this a little bit afew times.
They have filed bankruptcy, butthey are literally back to
swimming in debt.
Medical bills have piled up andthey were behind in their HOA
dues and they were going to besued by the Homeowner's
(17:56):
Association and would have toappear in court on August 24th.
Speaker 2 (18:00):
So they're drowning,
drowning, and he's flipped the
switch toward throwing it allaway and everything's fixing to
get chaotic, hectic.
Holy fuck, chip Lindsay, you'rebuilding it, dude.
It's no Okay, go ahead.
Speaker 1 (18:16):
As soon as Shanann
and the girls are gone, chris
makes plans with Nikki and theygo into a full blown affair.
He spends almost every nightwith her.
They go on dates, they go on acamping trip together.
They exchange the L word.
That quick, just latched rightwithin five weeks.
(18:36):
Yes, not in North Carolina.
Shanann is spending time withher family, some old friends,
and even plan to spend time withChris's family as well.
Well, I did mention this in thelast episode.
Celeste has a nut allergy, soshe tells both sets of
(18:56):
grandparents what they can't,what Celeste can and cannot have
.
And Shanann already has to bekind of gluten free.
When people have bad reactionsto certain foods, you've got to
be sensitive to that shit youdon't know you don't know what's
going to happen to their bodies.
Speaker 2 (19:10):
A lot of
complications right all around.
Everybody had some, you know, physical complications and
things going on with them, andthe kids too yeah, right.
Speaker 1 (19:19):
Well, there is this
whole ordeal at cindy's house.
Shenan swore up and down thatCindy who is Chris's mom.
If you guys haven't listened tothe first episode, which I do,
recommend going back and listento that before you finish part
two with us.
Speaker 2 (19:35):
Yeah, the salad is a
big nasty salad she has built
here.
Speaker 1 (19:41):
Well, Shanann swore
up and down that Cindy was about
to give Cece ice cream thatcontained tree nuts.
She can't have.
Cindy swears up and down.
It was just plain vanilla.
Shanann gathered her kids, accused Cindy of trying to kill
her child and then said shewould never set foot in their
(20:02):
house again.
All the drama she posts, rantsover this whole ordeal for the
next several days and demandsthat Chris do something about it
.
But Chris, he was heavilypreoccupied and most of
Shanann's calls went unansweredand most of her texts went
ignored.
(20:23):
Oh, yeah, he's lovey-dovey andon his lovey yes, not gonna be
good okay, so I didn't writethis in my notes, but like they
were exchanging nudes of oneanother and I didn't even know
this was a thing, but chrisdownloaded a calculator app that
had like a photo storage folderand would put all of Nikki's
(20:47):
photos because he didn't,shanann would go through his
phone.
Speaker 2 (20:50):
Oh, and a hidden
thing, the whole hidden thing
Like my calculator is used tocalculate.
Speaker 1 (20:55):
I would never even
think.
Speaker 2 (20:57):
I just use mine.
That's on my computer.
I don't even remember Well.
Speaker 1 (21:00):
I have a calculator
app because I help Silas with
his math.
You know I teach my kidshomeschool.
I gotta have a calculator appbecause I help Silas with his
math.
You know I teach my kidshomeschool.
Speaker 2 (21:07):
I got to have my
calculator app to check his
answers, found a weird pocket.
He could hide something?
Speaker 1 (21:09):
Yeah, I would have.
Until I researched this case, Iwould have never, ever even
known that that was probablylearned that from a buddy at
work had to.
Speaker 2 (21:17):
Some dude was like
hey, man, you can always just
yeah, you can.
Yeah, because Shanann would gothrough his phone the calculator
app, because, I mean honestly,he was such a passive guy that
it was almost like suspiciousyou know, yeah, and you would
have thought that, like I don'tknow, I guess he just didn't
(21:38):
want to speak up and stand upfor himself and all this
building up.
Speaker 1 (21:42):
Never, he didn't want
drama.
Speaker 2 (21:44):
Yeah, he didn't like
drama.
Speaker 1 (21:46):
Yeah, he didn't like
all good I mean, and that's why
he had cut off his family.
I'm opening a new Vista Bayhere.
I'm doing Black Cherry, blackCherry Bam-ba-lam.
Previous to this, like whenthere was problems with Shanann
and his family, he cut hisfamily off completely and he
waited for Shanenan to makeamends with them before he did,
(22:09):
which was, uh, after bella wasborn right.
Speaker 2 (22:13):
So all this time he's
just kind of just been
completely reserved completelydone, whatever she asked.
And then now the, the.
The switch has been fuckingright and and I.
Speaker 1 (22:24):
You know, supporting
your wife is one thing, but you
have to say what's on your mind.
Speaker 2 (22:30):
You cannot build up.
Speaker 1 (22:32):
It's not healthy.
Speaker 2 (22:33):
Never.
Speaker 1 (22:33):
It's not healthy to
be a yes man, yes Woman, yes,
then they, whatever, whatever.
Speaker 2 (22:41):
It's not healthy.
Right Everybody else to yourunhealthy situation.
Speaker 1 (22:46):
Well, when the five
weeks were up and Chris was to
join them in North Carolina, hewas not excited, he did not want
to leave Nikki, he was.
I mean, this is literally onlythe third.
Speaker 2 (23:00):
Yes, third
relationship, really.
Speaker 1 (23:02):
That he's ever been
in Half serious, the first one
he has literally been completelysubmissive person that he's
ever been in he has literallybeen completely submissive to
Shanann and this is somebody whohe feels like he can actually
be himself around.
When he arrived in NorthCarolina, he barely touched
Shanann and he's just.
He's focused on the kids likehe just completely goes to them.
(23:26):
I watched video footage of himgetting off the plane.
He goes straight to his girls.
You know, no huggy, no kissy toShanann.
It's all about Bella andCeleste, right?
Well, shanann, as well as herfamily, noticed a big change in
him.
He was quiet, he was distant, and this outraged Shanann, but
(23:49):
instead of fighting in front ofher family, she and Chris would
just exchange texts over thenext week like they weren't
talking to each other at allwhile they were there.
Speaker 2 (23:57):
while they were there
, that's how there, that's how
they communicated.
Speaker 1 (23:59):
That's how they
communicated.
Oh God, Complete phonerelationship the whole week, the
whole last week.
Speaker 2 (24:06):
I don't know if I
could do that.
Five weeks without Lindsaywould probably kill me.
Speaker 1 (24:12):
Yeah, without I'm
done.
If you haven't talked to me intwo days, we're going to fight
Like I'm ready to scream it out.
Speaker 2 (24:19):
Yeah, period.
I got to get this out.
What the hell's going on.
Speaker 1 (24:26):
And Chris even tells
her that he doesn't want the
baby.
Oh wow, shanann reached out toall of her friends about the
problems that they were having, but she did keep her family out
of it, chris, though, chris, hefully tells his family that he
and Shanann are going toseparate, and he was going to
file for joint custody and putthe house on the market Because
(24:46):
this house, like her previoushouse, was in her name.
This house was in his name andI don't know why, other than
maybe she was having, you know, she was already struggling in
that past house.
I don't know, I don't know why,but this house was in his name.
He said he planned on movingout and getting a small
apartment when they returnedback to Colorado, and, chris, he
(25:12):
was also crushing up oxycodoneand putting them in Shanann's
Thrive Shakes in hopes that itwould make her miscarry.
Speaker 2 (25:22):
Oh, wow.
Speaker 1 (25:23):
Yeah.
No, no, no no, she starts tofeel very sick and even starts
spotting a little bit.
When they get back to Colorado, shanann had another business
trip in Scottsdale, arizona, just a week later and her Thrive
team was to attend with her, including Nicole Atkinson.
(25:43):
Now, usually on these tripsShanann would be the life of the
party, but on this one shedidn't feel good and she had
migraines like the whole timethe whole weekend.
Shanann was also very worriedabout her marriage and was
reading a book called Hold MeTight Seven Conversations for a
(26:03):
Lifetime of Love by Dr SueJohnson.
She had also ordered this bookfor Chris and had written him a
long letter before she left.
Speaker 2 (26:12):
Right.
So she's trying to patch thingsup and she also.
Speaker 1 (26:16):
I didn't put this in
my notes, but she's also
starting to recognize some ofher own toxic behaviors and is
willing to correct them.
Speaker 2 (26:24):
Which should have
happened years ago, right Right.
Speaker 1 (26:26):
But I mean, she
recognized that shit on her own.
Chris never told her he didn'tyeah.
Chris never came out and said Idon't like this and I think we
should work on it.
Yeah, Poor communication.
Which is if somebody, if theperson you're in a relationship
with, has something that isbothering you, communicate that
to them.
Yeah, if they react badly anddon't want to change, end it.
Speaker 2 (26:49):
Yeah, you have to be
emotionally ready for that
communication and drive towardmaking everything work.
Speaker 1 (26:56):
The workability has
to be there, communication has
to be there for yourrelationship and if they,
recognize that the behaviorsthat you don't like are toxic
and are bothering you and theyare willing to change, but
you're not willing to put inthat work to see the change
still end.
It Say bye.
Speaker 2 (27:14):
Yeah, don't keep on
dragging along.
But like I said at, this point.
Speaker 1 (27:17):
He's told Nikki and
he's told his family that he's
getting a separation.
Has he told Shanann?
Absolutely not.
Oh no, no, he hasn't toldShanann.
A fucking thing is wrong.
Speaker 2 (27:30):
He just thinks he can
drop and walk out.
He's just distancing himself.
Speaker 1 (27:33):
He's not touching her
, he's not making love to her,
he's not showing her affectionand only communicating with her
through text messages in thesame household.
But the letter that she wroteChris, along with the book that
she ordered for him, it wentright in the trash.
He was just not even a glance.
Speaker 2 (27:53):
Didn't give a fuck.
Speaker 1 (27:55):
Chris called a
babysitter and planned a date
with Nikki.
She was in Scottsdale on thebusiness trip.
He was left at home with thebabies.
He gets a babysitter and onprevious dates and outings Chris
had used his Anadarko rewardscard, but on this date he used
his and Shanann's joint bankcard.
(28:16):
Oh, it's visible.
And Shanann got an alert on herphone about this purchase.
The bill was for around $70,which is so cheap.
It might like me and you likeour bills.
Speaker 2 (28:31):
Yeah, because we're
going to have a couple of drinks
.
We have a drink, yeah.
Speaker 1 (28:34):
We can't get nowhere
without spending $100.
Buck 20.
Buck 20 at the least, yeah.
So she texts Kristen was likewell, what did you have to eat?
And he said salmon and a beer.
So she Googles the restaurant'smenu to price what he ate, and
even with a tip, it shouldn'thave been more than 30 to $40.
(28:56):
But her calls and texts wentignored until he got home, cause
she was like you shouldn't havespent more than $30.
Yeah, 40 of the most, yeahdude's out there working it.
Speaker 2 (29:07):
Yeah, all the dirt.
Speaker 1 (29:10):
Well, shanann, she
asked him to please get the
girls things ready to startschool on Monday because now her
flight home from Scottsdale wasdelayed and she would be in
very late Sunday evening or veryearly Monday morning and I also
think that that's reallyirresponsible.
Like I would not take abusiness trip the weekend before
(29:33):
my baby starts school becauseBella was going to start
kindergarten.
That's a big deal.
Like everybody is different.
I mean, we've you and I evengave up a concert after we found
out.
We bought the tickets andeverything, but we found out it
was the night before our kidsstarted school and we were like
Nope, we got to give up thesetickets.
Speaker 2 (29:54):
Yeah, you got to be
responsible and obviously she
hasn't been responsiblethroughout all this and making a
lot of crazy decisions.
They both could have beenreally successful.
Speaker 1 (30:06):
This was like a
training type trip, and I think
I mean, in my humble opinion shecould have got one of her team
members that were going to go totake notes, voice record the
seminars, whatever, and sendthem to her.
Nicole Atkinson drops her offat 2 am the night before her
kids start school the next day.
Yeah, and that's just that's.
Uh, that's a lot to have todeal with, and then you
(30:27):
literally got to get up in fourhours and take your babies to
their first day of school yeah,a lot of bad decisions there she
gets home at 2 am, she crawlsin bed with ch.
She starts rubbing his back alittle bit.
You know they haven't touchedeach other in weeks, right A
couple months now, yeah, sixweeks, to be exact.
They haven't touched each otherand they end up having sex.
(30:50):
While he's in this full blownaffair with another woman, at 4
am she gets into two.
They have sex.
He goes back to sleep for justa little bit.
He wakes up at four to getready for work.
He starts to get ready for workand Shanann is now awake, but
he tells her that he doesn'twant to be married to her
(31:11):
anymore.
Now, shanann being 15 weekspregnant and understandably
upset, she screams at him thathe will never see his kids again
.
Are you ready?
Oh no, lindsay.
And then Chris puts his handsaround her neck and strangles
her to death.
(31:32):
Just snapped, full on, fullyfucking snapped.
And while Shanann lays dead onthe bed, Don't add more please.
Speaker 2 (31:44):
Do not, lindsay, wait
a minute.
No, wait, wait.
Let me turn toward the damnplant.
Speaker 1 (31:49):
Alright, let me get
through this because it's not
just going to be horrible.
Speaker 2 (31:53):
Lindsay, I mean, it
was bad enough already.
I knew it was coming, becauseit just exploded.
Speaker 1 (31:58):
Well, Bella she walks
in the room and asks what's
wrong with mommy?
No, and Chris just says she'snot feeling good.
So then Chris wraps Shanann inthe bed sheet and takes her
downstairs he was now followedby Bella and Cece.
He backs his truck up into thehouse, he loads Shanann into the
(32:22):
back, into the back seat, likeon the floorboard, and he takes
them to the work site where hehad already planned to be at
alone, like that was already.
He had to be there early towork on this oil thing.
Speaker 2 (32:38):
So he was ready.
He then gets there and he no,you've been building this salad,
he first smothers Cece.
No.
Speaker 1 (32:55):
And places her in one
oil tank.
Oh, and then he goes for Bella, and Bella was just a little too
big for the oil tank, so we hadto further harm her body
getting it in.
And before he put her in theoil tank, she asked what
(33:17):
happened to Cece.
And is that going to happen tome?
Oh my God.
And said, daddy, no, when hecame towards her, no way.
Oh my goodness, oh God, oh.
And then Chris digs a shallowgrave and places Shanann in it,
noticing that her body hasmiscarried the baby, which was a
(33:39):
little boy to be named Nico.
Oh, all right, a moment ofsilence.
A moment of silence, why?
Speaker 2 (33:52):
Why do I sign up for
this?
Why do you have me over here?
Why, lindsay, I'm so?
Speaker 1 (34:00):
sorry, okay, why,
lindsey, I'm so sorry, who saw?
Speaker 2 (34:05):
who saw?
Speaker 1 (34:07):
I watched this one
play out jesse in real time and
let me tell you it was horrific.
There's a there's a video ofBella singing a song about her
daddy being her hero.
That haunts my fucking dreams.
(34:30):
Not even lying Like.
Shanann made the little song upand Bella learned it and sang
it.
This very year on Facebook, shanann posted Bella singing it.
Speaker 2 (34:43):
Yeah, and you know
what the great thing about it is
.
You're going to make me watchit.
I know it.
Speaker 1 (34:50):
I know you are.
I'm laughing out of horror guys.
Speaker 2 (34:52):
I'm laughing out of
horror.
Speaker 1 (34:53):
I'm so sorry.
Speaker 2 (34:54):
You're going to make
me, you're going to keep on
going.
Speaker 1 (34:57):
Oh yeah, I got to
keep going.
So he has now annihilated hisentire family and he gets to
work making phone calls.
He calls the preschool andtells them that they're moving,
so Bella and Cece would nolonger be attending.
He calls the realtor and putsthe house on the market.
(35:18):
Now, Shanann had alreadypreviously done this because
they were already having issues.
So she had already told Shanannyou've got to get approved for
another house and then put it onthe market.
Speaker 2 (35:34):
So he's thinking that
he's going to get away with all
this, he's going to cover it upand walk away scot-free.
He's found his way out.
Speaker 1 (35:41):
Then he calls his
work office, establishing an
alibi.
He calls and texts Shanann tomake it look like he had reached
out and of course he textsNikki.
Well, one thing that Chris didnot plan on was a very involved
friend by the name of NicoleAtkinson.
She's a hero here, period.
(36:03):
Nicole knew that Shanann had adoctor's appointment that very
morning at 9 am and by 12 noon, when she hadn't heard from her,
she just goes to her house.
She sees that Shanann's car isstill in the garage and rings
the doorbell and yells and honksand calls nothing.
So she reaches out to Chris, who tells Nicole that Shanann
(36:27):
had a play date that day with afriend, and Nicole was like no,
she's got a doctor's appointmentthis morning and the girls are
supposed to be in school.
And upon looking further, nicole notices that the car
seats are still in the car.
So if she was going to be on aplay date she would need those
car seats.
But Nicole knew better.
Shanann's favorite shoes andher luggage were still by the
(36:51):
front door.
So Nicole calls the police andtells Chris that she's doing
that and he's like all right,I'm on my way.
When the police arrive, nicoletells them what's going on and
then a very dry, unconservedChris arrives and has now told
everyone that has reached out tohim that Shanann took the kids
(37:12):
on a play date, as much as Rosstold everyone that he and Rachel
were on a break.
If you don't understand thatreference that is from friends
break.
If you don't understand thereference that is from friends
when ross, ross and rachel wereon a break, he did cheat on her.
So when that gets brought backup, he'll always say we were on
a break.
But like chris tell is tellingeveryone she's on a play date,
(37:33):
she's on a play date, she's on aplay date.
She's on a play date.
But all the friends that knewher like yeah, so who the fuck
is the friend Right?
Speaker 2 (37:41):
Because we're all
here, we're talking.
Yeah, where's the car seats?
They're still in the carsitting there.
Yeah, not lining up.
Missed those parts, damn.
Speaker 1 (37:55):
So Chris lets the
police into the house and
nothing looks suspect, otherthan the fact that all of
Shanann's things that she wouldtake with her and the kids you
know all of them they're stillin the house and the bedding was
stripped off of their bed andthe top sheet to that bedding
was missing.
Whoa, nicole now has Shanann'sfriends and family on a
(38:17):
conference call and then theneighbor pops over and is like,
hey, my security camera hasfootage of their driveway.
Y'all want to check it out?
Oh no, so they go and check outthe footage.
Now you can't see a lot, sothey're on their TV.
They're looking at I'm drawingJesse a photo here, so they're
(38:37):
on their TV.
This is, this is Chris, the guyin the police officer, and
they're looking at the footageand the neighbor's truck is the
main thing that you see.
And then over here just alittle bit, you can see Chris's
truck backing in, so you reallycan't see what he's putting into
the truck from that from thatneighbor's angle Right.
Speaker 2 (38:56):
Yeah, stuff was
happening, right yeah.
Speaker 1 (38:59):
So they see that
Chris does back his truck up to
the house and they ask why hedid that and he tells them hey,
I had to grab my work gear andload it up and be in in the
field that he's in.
It's understandable that heneeds shit to take with him, but
no one can still get a hold ofShanann.
Of course, chris, he doesn'tknow the name of the friend
(39:19):
quotation that she supposedlywent on this play date with.
That nobody knows.
Nobody knows.
So by this time, this is theafternoon of August 13th 2018.
Social media posts have beenmade by Shanann's friends,
family Thrive Team.
Everybody, please help themfind Shanann and the girls and
(39:42):
please pray.
And her phone was on the couchwhich was later discovered that
Chris planted there and Chrisdidn't even know the unlock code
.
Guess who did Nicole, becauseit was the due date of their
baby, nico.
Speaker 2 (40:01):
Oh, wow, yeah, he
just completely snapped and lost
touch.
Speaker 1 (40:08):
This is everything
Not good Snapped.
So everyone, everyone, exceptfor his own immediate family
they suspected Chris hadsomething to do with it because
the trouble in the relationshipand, except for his own
immediate family, they suspectedChris had something to do with
it Because the trouble in therelationship and Shanann had
shared that with all of herfriends, not so much her family,
(40:30):
but then the friends who talkedto the family.
They're like, hey, she told usthis, this and this leading up
to when this happened.
So even the police looked atChris and was like you know how
this looks right?
And there is body cam footagefrom when they go to the
neighbor's house to look.
The body cam footage shows theneighbor saying he ain't acting
(40:52):
right, he ain't never, because Iguess he was nervously gabbing
and you can see that Like wedon't know Chris as a person.
But this neighbor did.
And this neighbor was like henever talked that much.
Speaker 2 (41:05):
He's at a really
weird thing that's on body cam
footage like wow yeah, like I'mover here fidgeting, I'm like I
know, oh my god, because I canpicture this whole scenario and
how it went down.
Fuck, so, so horrific dude, yougot to communicate.
You can't let this build up.
Speaker 1 (41:23):
No, you have to have
a voice at all times.
Speaker 2 (41:28):
Yes.
Speaker 1 (41:29):
All times.
Speaker 2 (41:31):
Yeah, whether you
like it or not.
Speaker 1 (41:32):
Yeah, I mean, murder
of your entire fucking family is
never the answer to anything.
No, no is never the answer toanything, oh, no.
So Chris was like I knoweverybody's mad at me, but how
could anyone think that I couldhurt them?
Now he did tell the police thatthey had been talking of
(41:53):
splitting up and maybe she hadjust taken off for a while.
But how, chris?
Where's the kids, all of herstuff and all the baby stuff is
there, it's all there.
In the house.
So Chris put on the show ofcalling the banks to see if she
had spent any of the money.
He even called the hospitals tosee if she or the kids were
there.
He answered questions and putout a very unconcerned robotic
(42:19):
type plea out on the media.
Speaker 2 (42:22):
It's haunting how
he's trying to go through the
motions and cover shit up.
Speaker 1 (42:28):
How bland the plea to
get his family back is.
I mean it is.
I remember watching.
Like I said, I watched thiscase unfold in real time and it
was chilling Watching that.
You automatically knew he hadsomething to do with it, and so
did the police.
He really made himself guiltywhen he said he was planning on
(42:50):
going to work the next day.
Well, police and investigatorswere like we just watched you be
really unconcerned with yourfamily, so we're going to bring
you in for questioning, Okay, and before that happened, he had
actually called his family andhe asked his dad to get into
town immediately.
(43:11):
This is from North Carolina, sodad probably had to take like a
red eye, like you know.
And in the meantime, Chris'sGPS tracker on his work truck
was investigated, as well as hisphone.
Aerial views were taken of hiswork site and that sheet, the
one he wrapped shenanigans, wasstill out there.
(43:32):
No yeah.
Speaker 2 (43:33):
You're done, you're
done.
Speaker 1 (43:36):
And this was matching
the missing one from his
bedding and police discoveredthat he was having an affair.
And after hours of him denyingthat he had done anything to
Shanann and the girls, he didadmit to the affair.
Then one investigator said didShanann do something to the
(43:57):
girls and then you had to dosomething to her?
So he decided to go with that.
But he wanted to talk to hisdad first.
So he tells his dad that he andShanann had talked about
splitting up that morning andthat he was having an affair.
And then when he wentdownstairs to go to work he
heard a commotion, ran backupstairs and Shanann had
(44:19):
smothered both of the girls, no.
Speaker 2 (44:21):
And then he killed
hered both of the girls, no and
then he killed her His truck wasthere?
Speaker 1 (44:25):
No, that was his
initial story and his dad was
absolutely devastated and Christold him that he would probably
not be seeing the light of dayor him again.
Well, when Chris told this samestory to investigators, they
asked him so you're okay withthe media saying that Shanann
(44:47):
murdered your kids?
And Chris immediately said yes, because I did not hurt my kids
and, of course, his family.
They believe this because theyhated Shanann, they hated her.
So Chris told them where thebodies were and they were
retrieved from the Anadarko worksite on August 16th.
(45:10):
This is like three days later.
Most of the people involved incompleting that task have never
been the same.
They suffered from PTSD.
They had to get two littlegirls out of oil tanks.
Speaker 2 (45:25):
One was twisted up
and pounded into one of them.
Yes, goodness.
Speaker 1 (45:28):
They had to unbury a
woman who had a amniotic sack
discharged from her body.
Oh my God, Lindsay, I know.
Speaker 2 (45:40):
This is a rough one.
You got me in a fucking roughone here, bud now nikki
kessinger, the mistress.
Speaker 1 (45:48):
She reached out to
the police, she gave them full
cooperation, she told them aboutthe affair and how she really
barely knew him and had no ideathat he would do anything like
this.
And I that I believe, that I100 believe, yeah, no, I don't
think that he had no idea thathe would do anything like this
and that I believe that I 100%believe I don't think that he
had any idea that he was goingto do this.
Speaker 2 (46:06):
Yeah, it was all
rainbow and unicorn for their
little conversations.
Speaker 1 (46:09):
Now, I do believe
that he thought about it before
she got home.
I believe that it was plannedin the spur of the moment before
she got home from that worktrip.
I do believe that.
Speaker 2 (46:19):
Yeah, whatever.
He flipped the switch and fullypursued the whole relationship,
consummated, did the wholething.
It was over.
Speaker 1 (46:27):
It was already
starting to creep into his head.
But I don't think that thefull-blown plan of murder
happened until she went on thatwork trip.
Speaker 2 (46:37):
And he knew he
couldn't have a way out unless
he did that.
Speaker 1 (46:41):
But unfortunately
Nikki's not quite as innocent.
I'm not saying that she knewanything about this, but there
were in the time that they wereseeing each other.
She had looked up Shanann again, which would definitely show
that she was definitely stillvery much thinking that her and
(47:02):
Chris were okay, right.
She looked up wedding dressesyeah, wow, she also, after
Shanann and the girls weremurdered, she Googled, searched
about another female who hadbeen the mistress of a man that
murdered his wife.
We will talk about this caselater on, so I'm not going to
(47:23):
mention any names, but shegoogled that mistress and her
story.
How much money that woman gotin a book deal, all kinds of
shit, oh shit.
She had told Chris to deleteAll of their messages, which
they are going to find themanyways.
(47:44):
No matter what you delete, it'sstill there you can't hide
anything in your calculator.
Speaker 2 (47:51):
It's still going to
be found fuck in a calculator
we're almost done here.
Speaker 1 (48:00):
I just had to take a
drink, ok goodness.
Now I don't know what happenedto Nikki.
I tried to Google where she isnow, things like that and a lot
of videos popped up atspeculating that they had
spotted her.
I don't know.
(48:21):
It was talked about that shemight have went into witness
protection, which isunderstandable.
Speaker 2 (48:26):
Yeah, she was
probably scared he was coming
after her.
Speaker 1 (48:29):
Well, no Other people
in general oh yeah.
People were very, veryaggressively upset about this
cage, which is understandable.
Speaker 2 (48:39):
Right and his parents
were thinking that he still did
no wrong Right.
Speaker 1 (48:43):
They were completely
ready to accept the fact that
Shanann had murdered herchildren and then Chris murdered
her out of anger for hermurdering her children.
Okay, so on November 6th 2018,chris would take a plea deal and
plead guilty to the multiplecounts of murder and tampering
(49:08):
with a deceased body and wassentenced to five life sentences
, plus an additional 48 yearsfor the unlawful termination of
Shanann's pregnancy.
There is zero chance at parole.
Chris was on suicide watch andthen later moved out of state
for safety concerns Because itgot pretty popular.
(49:33):
It got Jesse this.
I cannot you live under a rock.
Boo boo.
I do this case.
Speaker 2 (49:39):
I never heard nothing
about this.
Speaker 1 (49:41):
Everybody knows about
this case.
Oh fuck Like.
I have been in group in my meand my friends group text
there's a couple of them.
We have literally talked aboutpeople we see at the gym who
kind of looks like Chris Wattsand we're like freaked out.
Yeah, like.
And what's crazy is this guy isnot guy, was not a serial
(50:02):
killer.
He had no priors, no, nothingbut the fact that he snapped
that hard, that fast, murderedhis baby girls with their
fucking baby blankets no, andhis wife who was pregnant.
That is the.
This is scary, it's, it's, it's, it's.
(50:23):
That's a huge fear.
Yeah, that's like you don'tknow what's going on inside your
head.
Speaker 2 (50:29):
Just can do some
crazy yeah Insanely.
Speaker 1 (50:33):
There was signs of
trouble, but that no.
Shanann would have never.
Speaker 3 (50:37):
No.
Speaker 1 (50:38):
And what's crazy is,
shanann didn't put up a fight at
all.
The only one that put up afight was Bella, his
four-year-old little girl.
There was no signs of astruggle with Shanann.
Speaker 2 (50:54):
This is tough, this
is tough.
Speaker 1 (50:56):
No signs.
And Chris.
In February of 2019, theoriginal investigators got with
Chris and recorded an interviewwith him and he recounted
everything and up to the days ofthe murder.
It's hard for him which anynormal human being, it was hard
for him to talk about.
Speaker 2 (51:17):
Well, down to what
you said, when the baby said
that before she got stuffed intothe pipe or whatever, it was
Holy fuck the oil tank.
Speaker 1 (51:24):
Yeah, he would later
say that he actually tried to
smother the girls in their bedsbefore killing Shanann, but was
