In this Drive Like a Motha episode, Karen Peterkin-Lewis opens up about her journey from miscarriage to finding love. More specifically she talks about her grieving process after losing her son Ellis and not giving up on love.
Miscarriage is hard, unforgiving, confusing, and discouraging. Doctors are scientific, bosses are not empathic, and the world keeps moving. After having miscarriages in 2017 and 2018, I thought something was wrong with me. I grieved. I questioned my body. I felt alone. My friend Karen felt the same way even though she knew the support was there. Her son Ellis, was diagnosed with a chromosomal abnormality called Trisomy 13*. It wasn't until she found the Mis Foundation, did she feel that she had support that had experienced her pain and grief. Losing Ellis was the hardest thing Karen had ever endured, but she left her heart open for love.
In this episode you will learn:
- The importance of getting the support you need
- The importance of communicating
- Resources for families who have experienced grief
*Trisomy 13- A third strand of DNA on the 13th chromosome.
