(06:38):
For Life on September 23rd atthe Radisson Hotel in downtown
Kirk Gibson (06:44):
Kalamazoo. The
Gossage home run, it wouldn't
have been that much except herefused to walk me. Uh-huh.
Basically saying, I own you, andyou won't get me. And, when I
was in LA, the the Acker's layhome run, it's just like I
played all year, and I and Iknew I probably couldn't play,
(07:07):
you know, all the innings, but II could suck it up for 1.
And and it's just the fact thatyou suck it up and you Yeah. You
try and do, you know, 60%.Healthy Curt Gibson might be
better than a 100% somebodyelse. Much more powerful to play
(07:28):
for others than it is yourself.Mhmm.
Because you always make theright decision. And when you
play for yourself, you'reselfish and you're just thinking
about you. In 1988, I won thenational league MVP, and we won
(07:50):
the world series. So for the theMVP, we had a get together of 60
or 80 people, and it was allabout me and it sucked. Mhmm.
We had a parade for the wholeseries, a 1000000 people. That
was fun. Yeah. You just think ofthe party, think of the outcome.
(08:14):
Anybody who played any kind ofsports, competitive sports, if
it was in a band or anything, they did things together.
It's a riot. They all miss thecamaraderie. They all miss the
togetherness. You know, how isit you can walk into a room, 50
people that you haven't seen for35 years and immediately your
(08:36):
language, your slang that youcarried around with you,
whatever that was, it's justright there. You know, some
people are chucking out, thenicknames are coming.
It's good to do things together. It's fun. It's the Kirk Gibson
Center For Parkinson's is whatit is. What the name says, it's
a center. I want it to bringpeople together.
(08:56):
Parkinson's is one of thefastest growing neurological
diseases and there's so manypeople that are out there trying
to do well, but there's so manypeople that need help. Yeah. And
we're gonna create a centerwhere we can have that teamwork,
(09:17):
community, atmosphere. And, youknow, we have a little fun and,
we'll get serious at times, butultimately, we wanna accomplish
our goal and that's create afacility and fully fund it 10
years.
Sam D'Arc (09:38):
A special thanks to
Aaron Ziegler, Kirk Gibson, and
everyone who contributed to thisepisode. Until next week, how
are you driving vision today?
