Martin Potts (UK Artist Relations - Paiste, Vic Firth & Mapex) #44

Thanks for checking out episode 44 with Martin Potts who works for the distributor KORG UK in a role as UK Artist Relations for Paiste, Vic Firth & Mapex drums but also has control of the marketing for Mapex in the UK.

In this episode, Martin and I chat about his history of playing drums which included him reaching grade 8 at a young age, but sadly due to problems with arthritis couldn't persue much in his playing career. So we naturally discussed his journey of working within the musical instruments industry and how he started working in a drum shop and has worked his way up in the world of musical instrument distribution within multiple companies to where he is today and how the industry has changed over the years.

We also discussed some interesting topics such as artist endorsements and what Artist Relations at drum companies look for in new artists and how artists should initially approach them with regards to applications etc. Martin also talked about how he organises the marketing side of things for Mapex including social media content and how difficult it can be to get it right. Overall, a really interesting conversation from another side of the drum world that doesn't often get covered on this show.
