The Sam’s wrap up the EFL show for the season as Crawley Town defeated Crewe Alexandra 2-0 to gain promotion to League 1. Oxford dominated Bolton 2-0 to gain promotion to the championship for the first time in the 2000s. Isn’t there the championship playoff final between Leeds and Southampton? Yes, but the winner will be promoted to the premier league, which will be discussed on the DU Football Show next week.
It’s the final week of the season and the Sam’s break it down goal by goal as the title, Europe, and relegation are all decided. Big Sam and Producer Mel owe shots of Malört, and the cup of losers is emptied. The crew enjoys the gin binge with Warner’s Raspberry-flavored gin and Fever Tree Indian Tonic.

DU does English Football League: Episode 41
The championship saw two 0-0 draws in the first legs at West Brom and Norwich, now the attention goes to Leeds and Southampton. Bolton and Oxford advanced in League 1 and will face off at Wembley. League 2 see’s Crawley and Crewe Alexandra advancing as they ended Doncaster’s amazing run.

This week the Sam’s open with the battle at the top as City and Arsenal win again as it comes down to the wire. Burnley is the second club to be relegated and Luton is hanging on by a thread. It’s a three-horse race for the remaining European spots with Chelsea charging up the table. The Sam’s enjoy an Indian Gin Jin JiJi with Topo Chico’s new tonic water.

The Sam’s open with the bottom of the table as Forest inch closer to safety, while Luton and Burnley do little to help themselves. Arsenal and City just keep winning big as we approach the end of the season. Newcastle have played their way into Europe along with Chelsea who are now a threat as Man U suffer an embarrassing loss to Palace. Leicester has secured the championship title and promotion back to the premier league. Leeds and Ipswich now battle it out over who goes up and who’s in the playoffs. The bottom of the table is between 5 clubs all coming down to the final weekend. The Sam’s open with Arsenal’s big North London Derby over Spurs, continuing their hold on the top of the table. Everton find themselves now safe after their third win in a row, despite 2 point deductions. The relegation zone has taken its first club with Sheffield, as Burnley, Luton, and Forest battle for the lone spot for safety. Villa gives up a 2 goal lead to Chelsea but gains another point lead on their fight for the Champions ...
This mid-week the Sam’s open with the shocking result in the Merseyside Derby with Everton beating Liverpool, practically securing safety and dashing Liverpool’s title hopes. Arsenal and City get big wins, the cherries find themselves in the top half of the table and Man U are in Europe (for now). The gin binge has begun as the boys enjoy each enjoy separate G&T’s.

The Foxes are back to the top of the championship with Leeds and Ipswich on their tail. 5 clubs are battling to stay up with Birmingham City currently in the drop. Both league 1 and 2 have assured their automatic promotions but the playoff spot with come down to the final day as 4 clubs fight for 2 spots!

The top of the Championship all blew their opportunities as Leicester lost twice, Ipswich could only manage draws and Leeds got a single point and then lost at home. Pompey is so close to a League 1 title but their draw to Bolton holds it off for another week. Stockport and Wrexham have secured automatic promotion out of League 2. Welcome to League 1 Wrexham.

This week both the Sam’s suffered crushing defeats. Man City takes control of the league as Palace and Villa hand Liverpool and Arsenal massive losses. Newcastle find themselves right back in the hunt for Europe by manhandling Spurs. Don’t look now, can Chelsea sneak into Europe after beating Everton 6-0. This week the Sam’s open with the bottom of the table where both Luton and Everton won… wait Everton won, why yes they did. The Northwest Derby sees Liverpool now trailing Arsenal in the table. English Premier League Midweek games did not disappoint, and Chelsea Man U was wild. The whole week had a lot of early goals, Phil Foden got a hat trick over Villa, Arsenal got a chance to rest for a week with an easy win over Luton, Forest finally showed up at home, the Cherries stay on A roll, and the nil-nil match was entertaining. Unfortunately, we can't go a week without talking about points deductions.

The Championship completely flipped the script this week as Ipswich leap-frogged everyone into first place. Three teams are separated by a point each. League 1 could be decided this week as Pompey gets ready to host Derby, it would seem the playoff is mostly decided too. In League 2 Stockport has moved back into 1st as Wrexham beat Mansfield but it’s looking like all three are heading to automatic promotion.

This week the Sam’s open with the match everyone had their eye on, Newcastle and West Ham! I know everyone thought it would be City and Arsenal, but we also talked about Fulham’s shootout with the Blades before that too. Another match for Everton and another shot of Malort for big Sam. Villa continues their hold on fourth despite Spurs getting a come-from-behind win over Luton.

It was limited matches throughout the EFL as international duty affects teams in the championship and League 1 but that’s not gonna stop the Sam’s from talking about League 2. They also take a moment to catch up on the National League along with the north and south divisions to see how some of the darlings of the FA Cup did. Also, a few surprising clubs have dropped into the lower non-leagues.

No matches in the Prem but it doesn’t mean the league didn’t give the Sam’s something to talk about. Forest received their point deduction, and Everton faces their second charge as Leicester has now been charged too. What does all of this mean, hell if the Sam’s know but they sure as heck talk about it. What does this mean for other clubs and the league? Could this push the Big 6 to a “super league”?
