(00:07):
Welcome to Dungeons and Disasters AD and D5 E podcast
where I Josiah learn how to DM and so much more.
Without further ado, let's get into the episode.
(00:28):
Welcome to Sanctum Arcanum, an actual play D and D5 E campaign.
I'm your DM, Josiah. Hey, my name is Trevor.
I'll be playing Joseph Gavishi, the Human Divination music.
Hello my name is Nate Suggs. I will be playing Dennis
Miracle. It's the beast type shifter
fighter. Hey, my name is Kyle and I'm
going to be playing Queen. I'm a human room.
(00:51):
Hi, my name is Colin. I will be playing Alex Watson, a
High Elf armor artificer. I'm Brendan Riding, I am playing
Gronkle. I'm a half lane barbarian.
Join our players as they chase grades, glory, and a little too
much danger right here on Sanctum Arcana.
(01:13):
Welcome everyone to our session one.
I'm calling this campaign Sanctum Arcanum because it's
like Arcane School, that kind ofvibe.
But I'll go ahead and give you guys a little kind of like intro
into the world, just what you guys will be getting into.
(01:34):
And then we'll go ahead and and get into it.
But to yeah. So to start, the world you walk
is steeped in magic, not as somedistant force, but as the very
lifeblood of the land. The mana hums through the wind,
(01:57):
thrums beneath the rivers and pulses in the stones under foot.
You can feel it in the air, famous breath but powerful as a
heartbeat. To wield it is to hold status,
and the more you command, the higher you stand.
Some bend, monitor their will, shaping flame and frost with the
flick of the wrist. Others turn it around, or sorry.
(02:19):
Others turn it inward, sharpening their mind into a
psionic blade that cuts without steel, and a rare few, the
stubborn, the unbowed, weave it into muscle and bone, becoming
living weapons. The old guard may scoff at such
forms of power, but only a fool would face them.
Mainly, this is a world of powerand hierarchy.
(02:41):
Noble houses cling to monitorichbloodlines, while the powerless
labor in the shadows. Trees and truces are fragile
things, held together by coin, by blood, or by fear.
To the north, the Space Kingdom rises like a bastion of stone
and thought, it's rulers gifted with psionic minds of unshakable
(03:01):
will, their empire carved by cunning and steel.
Far to the West, the Diamond Kingdom hums with the song of
gears and enchantments, their armies marching alongside
clockwork Sentinels of gleaming brass and room.
In the deep green of the Heart Kingdom, High Alps walk among
living forests and radiant cities, their chosen guardians
(03:23):
found by destiny, wielding magicas healer, protector, and
executioner. And in the Clover Kingdom, magic
is the birthright of every child, where the gifted rise to
join the fabled Magic Knights, sworn to shield their people
from all who would harm them butyou.
Your journey begins in the northwest of the State Kingdom,
(03:46):
where towering Spires cut against the horizon and
whitestone glimmers in the afternoon sun.
Strixhaven University, the beating heart of magical
academia. Founded by 5 ancient Dragons, it
is divided into 5 colleges, Lor Hold, Prismari, Quandary,
Witherbloom, and Silver Quilt. At its sensor looms the
(04:08):
Biblioplex, an impossible library whose shelves stretch
beyond sight. It's halls lined with spells and
knowledge gathered from across the multiverse.
Once these halls rang with a quiet discipline of psionic
prodigies, minds sharpened to perfection.
But the gates have opened wider in recent years, welcoming
elementalists, wizard, even those who blends blade and
(04:32):
spell. Some call this a golden age for
magical study, others whisper itto be the school's unbeatable.
And for you, it began with a letter.
So at this point, you can go ahead and take a look at the
letter that was folded up in front of you.
This is your acceptance letter. If one of you wants to go ahead
(04:56):
and read it out loud, you can. Do so.
Thank you. For volunteering, I've been
voluntold. Do I need to do this in
character? No, you just do it alright.
OK, great. It's like I'm not sure I've
developed. My.
Accent yet, but we're going to try it out at some point.
(05:16):
Yeah. All right, dear future student
of Strixhaven, it is an honor toannounce that you've been
accepted into Strixhaven University.
Your thought, your thoughtful application, convinced us that
you have the intellectual energy, imagination, and talent
to flourish at Strixhaven. We are thrilled to welcome you
to the Strixhaven community and to look forward to the unique
(05:38):
and extraordinary contributions we know you will make to the
intellectual and extracurricularlife of our campus.
The exciting next step is now yours.
Your first year here at Strixhaven will you will spend
in courses of general studies, which lays the foundation for
more specialized work to follow.During this year, you will wear
(05:59):
a uniform of black, white and Gray, which will soon be
provided. That's.
Kind. Of boring.
They're all they're all white bythe way.
I I missed that. So all the all the roads for
first years are white? OK.
Even more bored, Yeah. It's OK once you get out though
they'll they'll change the color.
(06:20):
OK cool. Can we can we get custom ones?
Can we get custom rows? Guys.
Yeah, all. Right.
We invite you to our required orientation day in the
Biblioplexis Hall of Oracles, which will set off your first
year here on campus and introduce you to the
intellectual vibrancy and the dynamic campus life that defines
(06:42):
Strict Table. While we have every reason to
believe you will complete the school year successfully,
remember that your admission is contingent upon your continued
strong academic performance in the courses that you will choose
in the enclosed information. Once again, I extend my
congratulations on your admission to Strixhaven and
welcome you to the Strixhaven family.
Sincerely, Avis orism. Orism.
(07:09):
Yeah, so Avis Orism, the director of admission.
Director of Admission. Sorry the I read the.
First one, yeah, this. Letter was written in MLA.
Yeah, so these letters were delivered to your home, sealed
with the Crest of Strix Haven. That letter, that letter
(07:29):
travelled with you across kingdoms and seas, tucked safe
among your possessions. And now it rests in your pack as
you stand among hundreds of other first years.
A sea of White Rose, all gathered at the base of the
Biblioplex's marble steps. The sense of parchment and fresh
ink mingles with candle smoke and the faint crackle of unseen
(07:51):
enchantments. Somewhere within those great
double doors. Your future is waiting this.
The year begins now, and now we'll go ahead.
And because you guys are all individual students, you don't
really know each other yet, I'llsay that you kind of all got to
(08:13):
the Lupex Strix haven through whatever means necessary.
So if you were in a Kingdom thatwas far away, which is everyone
except for Elliott, who's not here today, then you guys all
came via ship because it's like an archipelago.
(08:35):
Yeah. So moving on, if you guys want
to go ahead and take your dice just to kind of represent a
character and place them at the steps of the map that I have
down there, I. Mean, sorry, do you want a?
Yeah, yeah. So that's that's that'll be the
(08:55):
entrance of. Well, it's kind of like I said,
Do you? Want to die?
There you go. D4 you'll never use unless
you're like wizard wherever. Just had to be different.
Hi Trevor used it, not 6. Well, I only have one before I
(09:19):
need it. OK.
Yeah. So if you guys also take a look
behind Nate and Brandon, Brandon, that's what Stryx Haven
looks like. So you have the central campus
in the middle, obviously, and then you have the five different
colleges surrounding it. So I thought that'd be helpful
(09:42):
to just have there if you wantedto like reference what kind of
vibe each college gives off. And then you guys are in the
middle, the very middle, middle, middle where the Biblioplex is.
So we're in the like the star looking thing with all.
That like the the middle. That's not wait, are we in
central campus? Yeah, OK, OK.
(10:03):
Yeah. So it's it's, it's kind of weird
because you have the. Oh, I see.
I. See like the zoom?
So that's the zoom in of each one.
OK, that was a little confusing, but I see it now.
Yeah. So, yeah, you guys are now the
Biblioplex, the largest buildingon Center campus.
(10:28):
And so as you guys start arriving there, each at
different times, what you see ismajestic marble archways home
seemingly stacked for miles, andthe infectious energy of
hundreds of young adults fill the Biblioplex.
This is the grand library at theheart of strict State
University. The sights, sounds and sparks of
(10:49):
magic in the air are wondrous. So around you, you see, like it
said, hundreds of other studentsalso in light robes, just kind
of standing around the outside. You see a few of them go in to
the actual biblioplex. If you remember from the letters
that you have, the instructions did say to go inside to continue
(11:14):
with orientation. If you want, I'll go ahead and
give everyone a chance to describe what their character
looks like amongst all the otherlight robed individuals, but if
you go ahead and start with you.Colin OK, turn me on the spot
again. Cool.
All right, so my character's name is Alex, but you'll get to
(11:37):
know him a little bit more later.
For now, he is a high elf, but he doesn't have long, pointy
ears like most high elves. He's got more short ears, a
typical of like 1/2 elf, but he is definitely a high elf
descent. He has short dirty blonde hair,
(12:01):
kind of like a Caesar cut kind of deal.
It's kind of like way beyond top, short on the sides.
Unlike your typical Lord of the Rings style elf, he's got green
eyes and a slightly paler complexion than a typical elf.
He does spend a lot of his time indoors.
(12:23):
He is not. I mean he's a little over
average height. He's about 5-10 and he is 27
and. Just so you know, you don't have
to go into that much detail. Yeah, sorry.
I just appreciate the the luck of what your character's like.
Transcript limit. I'll need a transcript limit.
(12:47):
It'll generate 1, so you can go right.
I forgot. So I'm going to scroll.
Down to it. One moment.
Yeah, I had like Collin's 5. Minute.
So before, before Clayton got toschool, before his white rope,
(13:15):
he was wearing like a short sleeve button down and like
khaki Chino pants, casual shoes. Not anymore, because he's in
uniform, but. Well, you're in the robes, so
that's kind of like your uniform.
He's 6 foot tall, white human, brown hair, blue eyes.
(13:42):
He's 28 years old, so he's a little bit older.
Yeah. Some of the other students kind
of like surfer haircut, short beard.
Cool. Yeah.
Awesome. Thank you.
Sure. Where you want to go?
Yeah. So if you catch him in the
(14:04):
amidst a crowd, you'll see a rather short 55 foot 6, about
110 lbs. Not scrawny, but definitely not
built by any means. A man just looking around with
vibrant green eyes, black curly hair, very pale skin, almost
matches the the tone of the the white robe.
If you look very closely, you'llsee some sort of red beady eyes
(14:29):
crawling across his neck, which if you're very keen, you might
be able to differentiate betweenthe white scales and the light
shadows on his albino snake thatis going to coil around his
neck. Awesome.
Thank you. All right.
Dennis, it appears to be human. He is around 6 foot 2 I think.
(14:52):
Yours. His build is that of your
stereotypical Viking, minus the beer gut, but still a whole lot
of muscle, a whole lot of fats, not that much subtlety.
He has brown eyes, brown hair and very tan skin and honestly
it looks like he manages his hair with just his own dagger
(15:15):
just and and the string just cutting it with what he can
underneath his robes. You can every once in a while
catch the glimpse of chainmail and he is walking around with a
small little torch shield on hisback and walking around with a
(15:35):
spear as a walking sick. Cool.
Awesome. OK, so.
Grumble. He is a little short.
He's orpha long, but he's ripped.
Very ripped, very ripped. You can see the bustles through
the road. Like that's hard.
(15:55):
He has long blonde hair, not toolong.
Kind of like being a surfer. Yeah.
Blue eyes, very tan, rough looking.
Skin and he is 20. Cool, awesome, sweet.
Thanks guys for those descriptions.
We'll go ahead and get started. I'll just pick one of you guys
(16:17):
to kind of start with and then I'll rope in everyone that way.
We'll go ahead and start with Dennis.
OK. So this is probably your first
time in a largely populated areain a long time.
(16:37):
And so you get the feeling, you get like a little, you get the
jitters and as you're sorry. Almost claustrophobic.
Yeah, and so you kind of like try to give yourself a little
space and amongst the the sea ofof white robes, you do see what
seems to almost be like a littleclearing and one student with
(16:59):
also white robes standing in themiddle.
People are kind of forming just a circle around him.
Go ahead and leave that to you. Seeing a place where there's
even slightly more room, he'll try his best to be gentle, but
still. Yeah.
(17:21):
Making direct way to just in that little area where there's.
More space. OK, cool.
Yeah. And I'll say the events that are
going on in this mini circle, kind of it's almost like
attracting all of you just because it's like, oh, this is
(17:42):
the first day of school and already something is happening,
something that's that everyone seems to be interested in.
And so you all kind of individually make your way over
kind of pushing towards the middle of the circle.
And on the inside of this circle, you see, you see a tall
boy. He's roughly 14 or 15 years old
(18:04):
with neat with neatly cut blondehair and clear blue eyes.
He wears the standard white robes everyone else, but it does
seem kind of weird because he is15 and he's in college.
But even even though he's young and even though he has the same
robes, there's almost some sort of quiet precision as to how he
(18:28):
wears them. You know, sleeves pressed,
collars straight, everything is in its place and pristine.
And you also notice as he's kindof standing in the circle and
people are watching him, you seehim casting just a simple major
light spell. He holds his hand out and this
(18:51):
is ball of light just kind of stands there.
But then it it almost seems to to shift into change.
It kind of shifts from this spear into more of like a a *.
And he kind of moves it around his body and around the space.
(19:12):
And the other students watch impressed.
And then once he gets done with his little performance, he kind
of shifts awkwardly with everyone looking at him.
And one of the students says. Wow, that was really awesome.
Thanks for showing us, I always wanted to know how to.
Transform my mage. Like like that?
(19:35):
And and the the little boy kind of shifts and says.
What you're you're very welcome.I you know, it's a it's a trick
I I done sometime a while ago, but I'm glad to have had you
kind of learn how to also manipulate your mage like, and
(19:57):
you see him kind of just disappear into the crowd, just
very uncomfortable with all the attention that he's got.
I'll leave it up to you guys now.
There's now this hole of space. If you want to like, I don't
know, do something while while everyone's attention is still
kind of there, but it's up to you guys now.
(20:18):
Where did the 15 year old go? He kind of just pushed himself
through through the crowd. You can try to catch him if you
want. Yeah.
OK. Yeah.
So. OK.
Yeah. So Joseph, you kind of fuse
directly across from where you're at.
So you, like, dart through the middle of this huge circle
clearing, not really caring anyone else, like what they
(20:41):
think. And you kind of reach your way
and like put your hand on your shoulder.
And it turns out, oh, excuse me,I was rather interested.
How long have you been going to school?
I it's, it is my, my first year.I I'm a new student.
Yeah, yeah. That's awesome.
Where? Where did you learn to do
something like that? Well, I I did learn it here,
(21:06):
unlike most people who use it. Through years of study I've been
gifted from being able to manipulate it with my mind.
I I am a state Kingdom local. So that's why I've learned not
from these parts, but if people are as amazing as you are in
(21:26):
this town, I think I'm gonna have a rather good time here.
Well, thank you for that show. I hope to see you around.
Yeah, you're welcome. What's your name?
Joseph Kabishi. I'm from the Clover Kingdom.
Joseph. Nice to meet you.
My name's Arumi. Arumi.
Wonderful man all. Right.
Well, I will be continuing with orientation, but maybe we'll see
(21:47):
each other later. Yeah, I'm definitely get you
around. Awesome.
Bye bye. And you just kind of like, goes
back into the crowd. Yeah.
So anything else anyone else to do?
So I myself seeing that you kindof rushed after him, I'm going
(22:09):
to go come and talk to you and see if like what you learned
because I, I did want to talk tohim, but I didn't get the chance
to catch him in time. So I'm kind of like, I'm kind of
showing up like right after you kind of had that brief.
Conversation. As you walk up, I need to catch
your eye and smile with a confident grinning hello.
(22:32):
What's your name? I'm Alex.
Alex, what's your name? Joseph Karishi.
Joseph. Where are you from?
Well, from the Diamond Kingdom. Really.
Yeah. What brings you to this school?
To learn and study same as everyone else here about.
The same as me. Yeah, you.
Know there's some like minded. Folks here, yeah.
(22:53):
Let's say that that kid you, youspoke to him.
What did? What was his name?
His name is Arumi. He's a he's a a local to to this
Kingdom, and it's also his first.
Oh, he's a pretty amazing skills, something just starting
out. Yeah, it's his little display
was pretty interesting. Absolutely beautiful.
(23:13):
Yeah, I I certainly can't do anything like that yet, but.
Hopefully I'll get there. Weren't you from the Heart
Kingdom? Diamond.
Kingdom. Oh OK, sorry, I must have heard
that wrong. Anyway, sorry.
Or no, sorry, Heart Kingdom. Oh yeah, did I say diamond?
Yeah, shit. No, you're good.
You're good. I just want to double check.
(23:34):
Sorry, from the Heart Kingdom. Let me clarify.
Yeah. Do any of you other guys want to
join in or you kind of just doing your own thing?
Probably not understanding that the circle of empty spaces,
mainly a circle of attention, will be not in the middle, but
(23:55):
off to like, off center. Yeah.
Circle. Just like being able to breathe
again. Yeah.
OK. Feeling nice, Yeah.
Cool you guys anything? I think I'm sort of like
standing back and observing because I'm like this 28 year
old, Yeah, dude. And it's a bunch of like kids.
(24:16):
So I'm still like getting used to being around like kids.
And so I'm trying to be like they're, they're not all kids,
but it, it is early, like early 20 somethings.
I never mentioned Dennis's age. She'd probably be early 30s.
OK. Oh wow, yeah.
Yeah, yeah. Definitely an older girl.
(24:37):
Old he. Doesn't have a long year.
Well, then, then maybe, maybe you and I like noticed each
other. Yeah, just.
They're like we're like, that was like doesn't Yeah, all
right. Just like the.
Awkward. The slight acknowledgement of
(25:00):
like, oh, we're both the oldest people here.
Yeah. Cool.
Brendan, I'm assuming you can't see anything so like?
Kind of sulking. From.
The. Corner because everyone's
shoulder. That, but I also was made to
come here. I didn't want to come here, so
(25:22):
I'm still kind of mad about being here.
I haven't accepted it yet. Gotcha.
OK, gotcha. Awesome.
Well, yeah, as you guys kind of get done with that interaction
and have spoken to a few people, are kind of getting to meet a
few of the other people that arehere.
(25:42):
You do hear a this very shriek, almost like hoarse, womanly
voice what seems to project overan intercom almost.
But you don't. You don't see any speakers
anywhere. It's just like a voice kind of
speaking from the heavens. I got you.
(26:03):
No, you, you hear? Brilliant scholars, your
attention please. You are now Stricksavan
University students. This storied biblioplex will be
your second home for research, studies and even leisure.
(26:24):
There is just one task to accomplish before you officially
embark on your academic journey.A scavenger hunt.
The rules are simple. Each clue on this list will lead
you to a different location in the video packs.
Simply travel to the area each clue references and perform the
(26:45):
action the clue suggests. Time is of the essence.
You only have until the end of the day to finish your hunt.
Solve as many clues as you can because at each location you may
win a prize now. Then form teams and then off you
go. What do you say, Alex?
(27:05):
What about my hand? Yeah.
I shake it. Dinosaurs, his eyes to queen.
Yeah, yeah. Yeah, all right.
I'm still. Talking, but I'm.
Sure, like I just ask people a sprinkle aren't.
You a short guy too? No.
(27:28):
Yeah, surprisingly, contrary to like, what normally happens, you
know, at school and stuff where people like, take a like, a long
time to figure out who they want, teams are actually picked
really, really fast. And so a majority of the people
just leave and go into the fieldnext, while you guys and a few
stragglers are just kind of sitting outside still.
(27:50):
I think you're soil but. Waiting.
So. Do we do we know where to where
to go First off? Like would we?
Yeah, so it's just inside and you figure once you get in there
more will be explained. OK, if I.
As I walk in. Do I catch?
Would I catch you on the corner of my just alone, not there to
(28:13):
go? Sure.
Yeah. So I'll, I'll walk over to you
and say, hey man, what's up? Hello.
How's your name's Joseph? What's your name?
I'm Gronkle. Well, nice to meet you, Gronkle.
Well, I see you haven't picked agroup.
Why is that? Just, you know, getting used to
(28:34):
the big crowd. Not used to it.
I'm from Cloverdale. Oh, same here.
Oh really? Where are you from?
Yeah, you're from. I forgot Yonder village.
Yonder village? How about?
You I'm I'm from the the. Capital, OH.
OK, nice. Well, if you haven't picked the
group, why not join us? Yes, please.
(28:54):
I'll be awesome. All right.
Sounds good. Follow us.
Yeah. Thanks for volunteering the
manchild, Joseph. Yeah.
And once, once Dennis catches Broncos like.
Ripped. Bombs through his he'll like
grab by at that point. Point towards the chronicle and
(29:16):
be like. Should we join them?
Wait, like all five of us? Yeah.
Oh, sure, why? Not Yeah.
OK, let's go. All right, So, you know, all are
kind of in in the same group now, just like huddled together.
You have these two, these two new guys.
How? You said this.
Nice to meet you. I'm Joseph.
What's your name? Queen.
(29:37):
Queen. I.
Never did this. I'm making fast friends.
And Alex, nice to meet y'all uncle, all right.
All right. You gonna score?
Better to share your workout routine one day.
Oh. It's top secret.
Oh. Yeah, as you all exchange that
(30:02):
awkward interaction, Joseph kindof go ahead and leads the way
into the Biblioplex. And the first step, like as soon
as you get in there, you hear. Welcome students, you have now
entered the Biblioplex. Your scavenger hunt will begin.
(30:23):
I will now read you off the clues for clue number one.
You'll forget all about any trouble or plight when you step
forward and are ensnarled in light for clue #2 Alumni
Commission works when they retire, seeking promising mages
(30:48):
to inspire. Clue #3.
Each group deserves a free treatfor their investment.
Serve up this list and enjoy your refreshments.
Clue #4 These leafy beds aren't always what they seem.
Give them a pat and see what youGlee.
(31:12):
Clue #5 Some stars are ancient, enduring and bright, but others?
Maybe you? Are born on opening nights.
This concludes the clues. If you have any questions,
please see the help desk. So I scraped the blood out of my
(31:34):
ears. Yeah, sorry.
And and a quick description as you all enter in.
Obviously this is not to scale just because the Bilioplex is
massive and they just tried to fit this on a map and obviously
it's I've even had to scale it down a little bit.
But as soon as you step through the 2 doors you see these like
(31:58):
massive 50 foot ceilings. To your left you see what seemed
to be couches and chairs, almostlike a little lounge area for
people to study in. And then to the right you have a
bunch of tables and chairs with a Cafe directly across from it.
You smell coffee brewing and yousee a few other people eating
(32:24):
sandwiches as they. Maybe you finish the scavenger
hunt already and are now kind oftaking a more of a relaxed break
with We just watched it. Must be easy.
What was the first clue? Well, some of them.
Some of them are in, like, the actual school robes.
(32:44):
So they all cheated. Yeah.
So they're already like, second years or third years.
And then you see, like, a few for, like, people in the light
ropes kind of walk up awkwardly and, like, ask them for help on
some of the glues. And then past that, you see this
down here, You see this huge hall, the big green ball with
(33:07):
all the dots around it. So this thing here in the
middle, it's this huge glowing blue mass and around it you see
all these different statues of what appeared to be a steamed
scholars. They're kind of basically
(33:28):
they're just like previous head masters of the college, all
surrounding this huge glowing blue orb in the sky.
And then to the right and left of it you have rows and rows and
rows of bookshelves. And then to the left of them you
have a few like mini gardens. That's what these things are.
(33:52):
You have like a big stone stage here.
And then you have stairs that gofurther up into higher levels of
biblioplex. And right in front of you, you
also see kind of like a desk with this short dwarfing woman
behind it. You can barely see her over the
(34:13):
swarm of light that is around the desk with students asking
for help on what the heck this scavenger hunt is and how they
can even get started. And you see that she's very
overwhelmed at the current moment.
But yeah, so that's that's what you see at least in terms of
(34:33):
this interior. So what was the?
First, Logan. You'll forget all about any
trouble or plight when you step forward and aren't snarled and
like. Seems like an entrance to me.
Was the second one about alumni?Yeah, Alumni Commission works
when they retire, seeking promising mages to inspire.
(34:56):
Yeah. Well, that's all.
Is the light one not about the like Big Blue glowing ball?
Roll. That's also like.
Roll an investigation check. Oh, oh, OK.
I didn't know that was like, howdo I do that?
20 sided dice here. I can give you some if you.
(35:17):
I've got two sides. Or you can.
So roll this guy or this guy. So roll AD 28, you got an 8 and
then you're going to add your investigation here.
So that's plus 210. 10 Awesome. Yeah.
(35:38):
So with that, the first one, thefirst clue, you kind of from
what you can see in front of you, you gather that you know,
this big glowing blue orb is probably what the clue is
talking about. And the second part about
stepping forward and snarled in light, you're guessing maybe you
(35:59):
need to like. You don't like?
Enter the. Somehow.
But yeah, that's that's what youcan get from that.
It's it's not in light, but the next clue talks about alumni
retired headmaster's which thereseems to be a statue.
Of what look like. Very old gentleman.
(36:22):
So are you saying it's all in character?
You saying this out loud or? So I'm just going to continue
walking. I see immediately.
All right, entrance of light outhere.
That seems to be the first clue.Oh, guys over there.
Well, that's the first clue. And I'm going to just walk
around taking the surroundings and thinking about the clues as
I go. OK, did I walk up to that when?
(36:45):
I you can, if you want like you can, you can break away from the
group you all see? Sorry, what was your name again?
Queen. Queen.
Yeah. So you all see Queen, which kind
of like break away from the restof you guys and begin to to walk
over to the orbs. Dennis, right.
Yeah, All right. Well, I guess if we're all going
(37:07):
our own places, I'm going to go check out those gardens.
So I'm going to make my way overthere do.
You want me to come with or? No.
I guess I'm almost good enough man.
I'll get you guys later. Yeah.
So just kind of go where you want to explore currently.
I'm just focused completely on the scavenger.
(37:29):
OK. Yeah.
So you're just kind of like thinking.
Yeah. So that so I'm going over to
these because. This seems like the second clue.
And I'm thinking about the third.
Clue which was each group deserves a free treat for their
investment. Serve up this list and enjoy
your refreshment. Is there a cafe nearby?
The. Cafe is like it was one of these
(37:50):
ones. Yeah, it was.
It's the one on right that. One, yeah, I mean that sounds
to. Be able to go to the cafe.
So we'll go ahead and actually start with you clean.
So as you approach the the blue org, it it almost seems to like
hum and radiate you. You felt this almost like power
(38:15):
before, when you've done your own sneaking or when you've done
very dexterous things with your hands, like breaking into locks
and stuff like that. This same semblance of like the
life force of this whole world. You feel just concentrated in
(38:37):
this huge ball and as you begin to step closer to it, you begin
to levitate. If you're familiar with like the
SpongeBob meme where it's just kind of like coding and wolves
by Kanye's playing, that's literally what's happening to
(38:57):
you. You're kind of just like
ascending up to this blue or andas soon as you touch it, your
eyes kind of like your vision goes white and.
They got this just in the middleof the library though.
What? And you just feel like so in
tune with the rest of with like the whole campus, like you can
(39:21):
feel all right. So I know like Prismari is like
over here and they're doing weird stuff there.
Quandary is over here. And there's some stuff moving
like some really big math equations, I think.
And then there's some like it's like a swamp monster over in the
(39:42):
Sedgemoor. OK, that's scary.
And after after that happens, your your eyes kind of come back
to normal. You float back down, but you
have now a potion of healing in your hand.
So you can go ahead and add thatto your inventory.
We're. Typing.
(40:05):
Notes. Am I supposed to be taking
notes? Oh.
I can't type in. This.
Yeah, that's right. Would you like a piece of paper?
Yeah, I. Or do you have a like a note or
a word doc there you. Go so this this or was in the
middle of all the statues of thehead masters.
Yeah. Do I still have my Microsoft
(40:29):
Office account at school? We're about to find out.
You should have like a personal account though.
It's like disconnected with. Your e-mail papers.
What do you think? Almost a form 4th.
Clue is. Hold on, what?
What should I type into my notespotion?
(40:50):
Of healing times 1/4 clue is these leafy beds aren't always
what they seem. Give them a pat and see what you
glean. Where are the gardens?
The. So actually.
I can work in the gardens. What's the fifth one?
Some stars are ancient, enduringand bright, but others maybe you
(41:11):
are born on opening night. So I suppose on the stage then
I'm going to go investigate the stage.
OK. Yeah.
As you walk over, go ahead and roll the investigation check.
(41:47):
1919 OK, yeah, with that, you'refrom kind of remembering the
clue, you think, OK, stars, maybe it's not talking about
actual stars in the sky, but maybe more performance stars.
And then born on opening night, you kind of get the feeling
(42:08):
maybe you need to stand on the stage and something to whatever
it is. So so hold this glue again.
Some stars are ancient, enduringand bright, but others maybe you
are born on opening night. I look quickly around for any if
(42:31):
there's any sort of skylight boring in on the stage.
I mean, there's, I didn't reallydo a good job of explaining the
Biblioplex, but it's kind of like this huge Dome.
There's like glass panes. So all of like that central
areas lit up pretty well and theceiling is higher than 50 feet,
it's like 150 maybe, but there isn't any light specifically on
(42:57):
that area. Anything noticeable in the
ceiling that might have to do inthe stage?
Roll investigation check. 9/9/10. 10 OK, yeah, I mean,
I'll say that there there isn't really any supporting lights or
(43:18):
anything for the stage. It's just kind of like one of
those open air stage that you would find outside, maybe like
almost like an amphitheater, butkind of inside.
Can you tell me the clue one more time?
Yeah, some stars are ancient andduring the bright, but others?
(43:38):
Maybe you are born on opening night.
Is there anything on stage that I might really interact with?
Like some sort of place? It's just stone.
(44:01):
It's a stone stage. Born on opening night.
So while Joseph is thinking about that, OK.
Yeah. I am over by the gardens, right?
This is what? OK, Yeah, yeah.
So what do I see? What am I like as I'm walking
through? Yeah.
So as you as you get a bit closer to the little gardens
(44:24):
themselves, they're obviously a lot bigger than it is in the
picture. But you see these, these almost
like these almost seem to be quiet areas.
So you have students sitting on the grass and studying among the
foliage, maybe using it for somesort of inspiration.
(44:45):
But yeah, there's also a few benches on the outside kind of
looking in. There's a few benches on the
inside. Group of students are sitting,
but there's one big tree in the middle and like a bunch of
shrubs kind of surrounding the big tree.
And then obviously like a grassyplane in the middle.
(45:09):
OK, I can read the clue again ifyou'd like.
I think I got OK, flower beds. Flower beds.
All right, So I'm going to walk over to the big tree and sit
down underneath it. OK.
(45:32):
And that's it. There's shoot.
OK, you take a sit under the under the tree, you go.
You're like so Criss crossed. You kind of like sit there
thinking. It's like.
OK. Something's going to happen and
nothing happens. Shoot.
All right, Can you read the clueagain?
(45:56):
Yeah, these. Leafy beds aren't always what
they seem. Give them the pat and see what
you glean. OK, I'm leafy beds.
All right, then I'm going to go walk over to like the actual
like flower beds. OK.
That are there like the studentsare like studying by yeah and
(46:19):
I'm going to go like go check out the soil like the actual
beds themselves and see if there's anything in there that
might. OK, roll me an investigation
check, OK Or actually do our forme?
You. Got it.
That is a 17th. OK.
(46:41):
Yeah. So as you kind of like dig
around the soil a little bit, what you're looking for it isn't
necessarily you're you're basically trying to find
something that's magical within nature.
And so kind of drawing into the mana from the surrounding area,
(47:03):
you kind of almost get like the slightest hint of magical energy
coming from the bushes that are surrounding the the area like
these little spherical. Bushes OK, All right, Well,
having sensed the the mana kind of coming from this bushes, I'm
going to go check them out. Then I'm going to walk over and
(47:27):
like maybe see if there's anything special about the
bushes and the way they're shaped or maybe the way that
they're growing like from the soil.
OK so I might check out like thedirt and earth like around the
bushes. Yeah, yeah.
Give me an investigation check, OK.
That is yeah, 21. Oh.
(47:51):
My goodness, yeah. So you kind of review the clue
in your head over again as you're touching, like around the
bushes. The these leafy beds aren't
always what they seem. Give them the pat and see what
you clean you you're. Going to pat the.
Pat the Bush. Yeah, OK, gotcha.
(48:12):
So you. Good little Bush.
So you pat the Bush and yeah, soas soon as you pat the Bush, you
see the leaves kind of like partfrom the outside, revealing the
inside of the Bush. And among the inside you see a
(48:35):
little, almost like a stuffed animal.
Let me just double check what itis for you, but should be sorry.
(49:13):
OK, Yeah. So what you see is just kind of
like this snake, like a plush plush snake, but it's very
symmetrical. So instead of the youth like
typical round stuffed animal, this is like rigid and full of a
bunch of like very, you know, acute angles.
(49:35):
Like a lot of math was put into this stuffed animal snake.
It was all it was. It was over engineered
basically. OK.
And it's like it's stuck. It's like it's plush, but it's
like it's like sewn to be very gotcha and it's.
Kind of like blowing a little bit.
All right, Joseph's jealous. I'm very happy with my snake.
(50:00):
What's the color of the snake? It's blue.
It's blue, OK, I think that's. Right, we'll just double check.
That's all. Yeah, it's blue all right.
A blue glowing snake. OK, I'm going to reach in and
pick it up. Yeah, so now you have a
(50:21):
Strixhaven mascot, and this does?
It's a magic item, so I know that.
Oh. I get to put it.
In my magic items list. I might be able to find it on
(50:56):
the list actually. Hold on.
OK. Possibly I can sort
alphabetically a. Little bit.
OK, Yeah, it's so it's a magic that can be pressed on your arm,
shoulder or leg as an action, allowing it to cling for one
hour while attached. It provides advantage on saves
(51:18):
against the frightened condition, and it's just kind of
designed to help you feel more comfortable on campus.
That's kind of cute, yeah. Yeah, so that's what you get.
And you, you pick it up and takeit out and the Bush kind of
covers back. We'll go ahead and go with.
(51:39):
I'm gonna. Throw it on my shoulder.
Yeah, yeah. And you feel it kind of almost
sink into your robe. It starts to to pulse a little
bit in blue light as you begin to feel almost like a sense of
calm wash over your body. After frantically digging around
in the dirt multiple times and the fear of other people looking
(52:01):
at you funny so it all kind of washes away.
You feel more calm, Brendan. Do we want to go with you?
Yes. What clues?
What clues are left? Do we?
Have not you have. Have we been to the cafe yet?
No one has been to that place, is just waiting there.
(52:24):
You're you're waiting in line. Yeah, OK.
Are you with him? Or you.
No, there's the other one. There's alumni Commission works
when they retire, seeking promise, promising mages to
inspire. I'll.
(52:45):
Go. OK, that's fair.
Yeah, Yeah. So you guys are in line.
The line goes by pretty quick though.
Like the people that are in thiscafe have it on pack, like
they're used to really fast, long hours and they're just
trying to get through all this as fast as they can.
(53:08):
And so, yeah, as as you wait in line and you kind of look at the
architecture of this place, it almost seems to be like you, you
see this huge tree kind of like reaching out.
It's like above the the ceiling and the roots almost kind of
cascade into making this naturalroom, which is where people are
(53:33):
making coffee out of. And so the roots kind of are
going in and out of the floor and like messing with the tables
a little bit. And so it has almost a very
lively feeling to this whole cafe in general.
And as you take a quicker look at the the roots as well, you
see almost like these animated, like magical creatures, kind of
(53:57):
like crawling along them, like squirrels.
And you have rabbits kind of darting in and out.
You have a few like magical bugsthat are crawling on them too.
Yeah. And.
Yes, yeah, yeah. Each group deserves a free treat
(54:18):
for their investment. Serve up this list and enjoy
your refreshment. I'm trying to repeat this.
Is there like a so there's like a Is there like a bar where they
serve like drinks? Yeah, yeah.
So you guys are now, I'll say that you guys are now like at
the like the ordering thing. And you see, actually another
(54:40):
note working behind the counter, red fizzly hair kind of all over
the place, but tied back into a bun.
Classic apron. She doesn't have her robes on.
She's kind of like whipping around here and there, grabbing
coffee, basically, almost like chucking it across the the
(55:00):
inside of the room and blending perfectly on the counter for
students to come by and grab. She turns.
You OK? Hi.
Yeah. What can I get you?
I want. To repeat like.
The the clue OK, all righty, that's part of the the clue.
So I will go ahead and sorry. Sorry.
(55:22):
As part of orientation, you basically get a free treat.
So I'm just going to give you a free treat.
Yeah. It's been getting out a lot
today. But I mean, you know, it's what
happens. It's orientation day, so it's
going to happen a lot anyways. She goes down, she goes back.
That's great. Yeah, she goes back into the
(55:44):
room and OK, Yeah, OK. So sorry.
I need you both to help me real quick.
Can you can you come back here just for a few seconds?
She like opened. So there's part of the the the
(56:06):
the counter is one of those like, yeah, it's opening.
Yeah, swing UPS. So she opens it and like beckons
for you to come in, and then she's like, OK.
So. To help me restock some
sandwiches, we're running a bit low because obviously
orientation and I kind of need to stay at the counter.
(56:28):
I need to make sure you guys make sandwiches.
It's really, really quick. OK.
All be at the counter. You guys are back here.
It's pretty simple. You guys want to make
sandwiches, right? You guys look very pretty.
Pretty common. OK, Yeah.
Awesome. Sweet, so cool.
Awesome. I will go.
And then I'll, I'll just be backwith you in a few minutes, a few
minutes. Just make sure you have like
(56:49):
1015 sandwiches ready to go. And then we'll go.
OK. And then she immediately, like,
runs to the front. Hey, what can I get you?
OK, Coffee. Oh, yeah, I'll get you a coffee.
And then she goes, like, starts frantically getting everything
that she needs. Now, you 2 are kind of in the
back of this cafe. There's stacks of of bread and
(57:11):
like lettuce and and meats and stuff.
You don't really know what the sandwiches look like.
You're kind of given instructions to to make some.
And that's all you were given. Dennis really likes food, so
he's just going to make sandwiches that he was like, OK,
so yeah. So yeah, honestly, it's just a
(57:34):
lot of everything on a sandwich, you know, extra, less extra
meats. Extra salt.
Yeah. The Dennis Special.
Like, they're almost the scooby-doo like snacks, you
know, as. Yeah, half as small as a.
Person, they've been really likelong talk.
(57:54):
Yeah. Oh yeah.
Gronkle. They're Gronkle height.
You're like caging Gronkle with a sandwich.
You're like, this is good. So yeah, go ahead and roll me,
both of you, with Dexterity check.
(58:14):
What is that you can tell your number?
One OK, so take the D20. You go.
And then you're going to roll and then add your deck, so.
Thanks, Tim. You asked me if you're wrong,
I'm going to very. Changesly define.
How to roll help process? Essentially, he's the one giving
one. Yeah, yeah, you can give me help
action so, so roll this place and you took a very long time.
(58:37):
So I want to. Hold the dye in your hand and
then close your teeth around thebut leave enough.
Room shut it around so both of you are working as hard as you
can you're really you're you're putting in the work you are
sweating it's getting really hotand underneath these these.
(59:00):
Tree roots. The the gnome lady hasn't even
come back to look at you. She's kind of just assumed that
you guys are fine until you you get done with basically all the
materials. And she yeah, she just she she
eventually comes back because, oh, they had to go.
Oh, you all are done. Awesome.
(59:21):
Those are some pretty, pretty big sandwiches.
Every two of these should go. Sure, go ahead.
Thank you so much for helping. Check it off off your list.
And actually, you know what? This has been so helpful today.
And you guys have been able to make the sandwiches.
We look really good. By the way, I'm probably going
to be on the break, every break. But you guys, you guys are going
(59:41):
to be great. Sorry.
You guys are going to get the trinket, little trinket trinket
that I get to give out. If anyone has to help me, no one
has decided to help me. It's kind of it's kind of yeah.
You know, if, if you're ever looking for any, any jobs later
in the semester, I definitely would need to know.
You know, it's, it's kind of hard working all by myself all
the time. We had someone else work here
(01:00:03):
and she got banned off the expressing machine but.
It's, you know, it's fine, but sorry you guys, you're tricks
cool. She reaches into her pocket and
for each of you, you both get. Thank you for listening to this
(01:00:25):
week's episode of Dungeons and Disasters.
We drop new episodes every Saturday at 7:00 AM Eastern.
We hope to see you then.
