In August 2022, during the height of the pandemic’s conspiracy-theory frenzy, Rebecca, who had no outdoor-survival skills, convinced her sister and Talon to exit civilisation so they could live a life off-grid on a 10,000ft mountain in Colorado. In winter. They had a tent, some packets of noodles and a handful of life straws for purifying water. What happened next is a tragedy that could so easily have been avoided.
