Sunday sermons from the Emmanuel Baptist Church of Elkhorn, Wisconsin
The world today claims to seek justice for perceived societal wrongs, yet fails to define justice according to God's word. Proverbs emphasizes that justice is rooted in God's perfect righteousness and the assurance that he will bring all actions into judgment one day.
Righteous living results honor and life, while wickedness leads to shame and death. Since righteousness and wickedness lead to certain outcomes, we must choose the path of righteousness and reject the temptation to self-indulgence and sin.
The fear of the LORD is central to Proverbs and to the life ofwisdom, joy, and peace. Since the fear of Yahweh is essential to life and true happiness, we must make it out life’s pursuit, embracing the honor of obedience and holding out hope for future glory.

Paul prays for the Ephesians to experience the fullness of Christ’s love by his Spirit. Since the Father blesses his children out of the abundance of glory, we should expect his power and love to cause us to grow to maturity as we come to him in the prayer of faith.
Paul’s imprisonment was for the sake of his call to take the gospel to the Gentiles. Since the mystery of Christ has been revealed to us in the gospel, we must consider sacrifice for the sake of those who are glorified through its power to be our honor and glory.
Believers experience reconciliation, unity, and peace with God by faith in his Son. Since God has brought about the most amazing reversal for all who trust in Jesus, we must commemorate the new life we have in Christ and renew our commitment to his body, the church.
In order to more fully appreciate the richness of God's mercy and greatness of his love, we must consider how spiritually destitute we once were, when we walked according to the dictates of our sinful flesh. But in Christ believers enjoy the complete transformation of our present circumstances and the promise of rich blessings for eternity to come in order to display God's unsurpassed generosity.
Paul prays that the Ephesians would know the full measure of what they have in Christ. Since Jesus has risen and ascended believers have abundant spiritual blessings, which we must come to know and experience more and more.
The triune Lord is praised for his mercy and grace in salvation. Since God has accomplished this great redemption and placed us in Christ by the self-giving of his Son and the sealing of the Spirit, we ought to glorify him and give him praise.
Paul’s ministry in Ephesus was gospel-focused and gospel-powered to the glory of God. Since the word of God is powerful to save and keep all who believe, we must commit ourselves to making disciples and teach them to trust in and follow the Scriptures.
Paul’s sermon in Athens focuses on knowing and worshiping the one, true God. Since Jesus is the Man sent from God who will judge the earth, we must turn from our sinful self-directed worship and bow before the true God.
Jesus, risen from the dead, has power to save all who turn from sin to trust in his name. Since Jesus is demonstrated to be the Son of God by his resurrection from the dead, we must believe in his name to be forgiven and receive the hope of the restoration to come.
Israel’s history as a people bears witness to God’s enduring plan of redemption. Since the Lord purposed to bring salvation to the world through Abraham and his descendants, we ought to repent of our sin and trust in the Savior whom he has sent.
Jacob and Joseph both died believing the future fulfillment of God’s blessed promises. Since faith is founded on God’s faithfulness and the certainty of his promises, we must hold confidently to his words and judge present circumstances in light of our future hope.

Jacob’s sons are distinguished by their individual natures and the work of God’s grace. Since the Lord uses men and women of godly character to serve his people, we must grow in faith and dependence on him to experience his blessing and do his will.
Jacob shows faith in God’s word and hope for future generations according to his will. Since the Lord has been faithful from generation to generation, we must trust him for our present need and maintain hope for the future according to his goodness and wisdom.
By wisdom Joseph guided his family to Goshen and led Egypt through the deadly crisis. Since the Lord by his providence prepared and placed Joseph to save his family and nation, his people can trust him to fulfill all his covenant promises through every situation.
