Los años de formación de Fernando Lúpiz transcurrieron en la Sala de Armas del Club de Gimnasia y Esgrima de Buenos Aires, donde aprendió técnicas y artimañas del sable y el florete. Lúpiz participó en las olimpiadas de Múnich ‘72 y Montreal ‘76. Paralelamente, se hizo popular en el medio artístico por su amistad con el actor estadounidense Guy Williams, famoso por interpretar importantes papeles en series como Bonanza, Lost in Space y El Zorro.
