Yesterday, I played my first ever game of basketball. Everyone in my family plays basketball however I have never played in an official basketball game as part of a team. It was absolutely out of my comfort zone. I am not competitive when it comes to sport, I never played in a team in school, and I don’t know the rules. I joined a team because I wanted to challenge myself to feel the discomfort of not knowing, of not being able to predict what will happen, and possibly being the most incompetent player on the team. There was an extremely high risk that I would not contribute very little value, make a fool of myself, and burden my team members with asking the same questions over and over again, standing in the wrong place or even running in the wrong direction. But I was all for it, because I wanted to see whether the experience will help me grow in some way. So, how do you go about stepping outside of your comfort zone with the aim to learn and grow?
