Whilst it is important to acknowledge that an unfavourable change has occurred, it is important to recognise that it doesn’t have to be the end of your story. It is simply a change that was unexpected and undesired, but it is a change, nevertheless. Focus on being grateful for the little things. Set yourself realistic goals and work towards achieving them. Celebrate as you do because you need to remind yourself that you are capable. Seek support from friends, colleagues, family, and support services. Those who matter won’t mind that you are going through this change, those who mind don’t matter. People who love and care about you will understand that your situation does not define you. Sometimes, you need to remind yourself of that.
So, when going through change, remember to avoid the hindsight trap, the blame game, and dwelling too long in the valley of despair.
