Miranda (00:27):
Hey, our beautiful listeners.
It has been a little while.
There has been a lot going on.
Life things, work, things, exploring new idea things.
And while the podcast has beenon a very long pause, always
been a part of us.
new, we'd come back to elevatewith grace.
Earlier this year, Claire and Icaught up and the spark was

(00:47):
back.
The energy of sharing coolstuff, the excitement for a
better workplace, all thereasons that we started this in
the first place, it all camerushing back.
It feels like the world alongwith us has taken a collective
breath it's time to bringElevate back.
consider this your re-intro, amoment to say hey and let you
know we are officially back,mid-May.

(01:09):
We are so ready and we've got somuch to share.

Claire (01:13):
don't think you could have started that off better,
Miranda, I'm so excited.
We are kicking off a brand newseason of.
Vape with Grace so much to diveinto new ideas, fresh
perspectives, and keeping itreal.
Chats about navigating this newworld of work in 2025 and beyond
the last few years have been awhirlwind of highs and lows,

(01:33):
life has been moving at thespeed of light.
I don't know about you.
It's such a joy to be exploringand reflecting with you again on
how we can blend together thisevolving workplace, the world of
work, life leadership, new techtools to create success on our
own terms in 2025 and beyond, looking forward to it.

Miranda (01:52):
Bring on more fun.
I think the world needs more funright now and I keep having
these conversations in my headanyway, but I'm excited to be
having them out loud again.
but I really have, I've beenreflecting on where we are in
the world.
And how we can shape the cultureand the way of working, that's
gonna serve us all best goingforward.
And there really has been, Iguess, a couple of overarching

(02:13):
learnings that I'm excited thatwe're gonna be weaving into our
new series.
The first, I think we just sortof need to embrace change
instead of resisting it.
I just feel like there's a lotof tension right now and there's
this real resistance.
Between the groups of peoplethat wanna see the world going
forward and the kind of onesthat are sort of going, oh, I
just wish it was back the way itwas.
and that just feels really hardand I think we've got such a

(02:35):
great opportunity to, embracechange.
It can be uncomfortable, but.
Change has always led to abetter way of doing things,
history tells us that it's a redflag for me when I hear, we need
to go back to the way it was, orthis always worked in the past.
we should consider thoselearnings.
I.
But I think eyes wide open, it'snew world landscape, new working
landscape.
There's new technology toembrace.

(02:57):
new energy new vibe to consider,we can make a more efficient,
more enjoyable, more excitingworkplace.
We're leveraging that latesttech and just making the most of
the hybrid workplaceopportunities available now.

Claire (03:09):
I couldn't agree more.
I think one of the things that Ireally want to get across in
our, next season is how to letgo and be excited about these
new changes.
That's not to gloss over howdifficult it is for many of us
It is a different world and whatis coming is much, different.

(03:30):
How much opportunity there is touse all of those things, to
adapt and be successful forourselves and future
generations, embrace this andrun with it.
while there is a lot to learnfrom the past, I think we can
always look to the past forideas on how we should.
Embrace the future.
it requires a new way ofthinking that we really do need

(03:50):
to explore what.
Ways we wanna learn differently, how we're gonna respond, how we
look at the ways we absorbinformation.
It can be easy to get wrapped upin the stress of all this.
But if we take a step back andwe take a mindset of test and
learn approaches of curiosityand connecting, and spend time

(04:12):
reflecting when I think back onmy last five years, 10 years, 15
years.
And I think about all thechallenges I've overcome and
many of us have overcome.
I mean, the global pause ofCovid, particularly for us,
Melburnians, we can achieve andget through and overcome so
much.
we can bring a force of energythat's positive and give

(04:33):
ourselves the ability to reallybe hopeful about.
the future of today andtomorrow, And so I am really
excited to talk about this withyou again, Miranda.

Miranda (04:41):
Absolutely.
change is hard, but there's somuch opportunity in it and there
has been so much change ineveryone's lifetime.
It doesn't actually matter whenyou were born.
The amount of change that wehave adapted to the resilience
of the people today is awesomewe've done it before.
We can do it again.
it's uncomfortable, but I knowwe'll get there.
the second one is just thisquality over busyness.

(05:02):
I think there's this real,Shift.
I do believe that previously wewere judged on how many hours we
were sitting at that desk, howmany hours we were putting in
before and after, et cetera.
It was like this sort of almostbadge of honor how busy we were.
And I think that there's thisreal push for a better quality
of life overall there's a greatstudies out there saying that
anything more than 40 hours aweek in your work.

(05:23):
Returns are diminishing and wediscussed that in season two.

Claire (05:27):
We did,

Miranda (05:28):
It continues to stick with us.
And as a collectiveconsciousness, there's been that
push to say, we're gonna put ina hard day's work, do great
things, but we need work lifebalance.
people have demanded it, morethan ever before, So we aim for
quality work.
We talk about purpose.
Finding fewer distractions, making sure we get in that flow
state.
People are more protective oftheir time.
They really wanna see theagendas before the meetings.

(05:48):
There's no meetings before themeetings anymore.
just get in, get it done.
Let's keep moving forward.
we can leave behind some of thestuff that doesn't serve while
still focusing on efficienciesand achieving more.
by focusing on what's mostimportant, what those big rocks
are.

Claire (06:02):
I think it's still such a challenge.
it does take conscious effort topull away and keep reminding
ourselves, it's a muscle likemindfulness, like exercise we
need to build about how muchtime we are spending on.
Distracting tasks getting to thebottom of that inbox checking
all those messages quickly, checking the news and putting

(06:23):
limits on those things, beingvery conscious of it so we are
looking, like you said, toquality work, clear purpose,
focus, and I do think that it'ssomething that we really need to
be quite.
Conscious.
I know I do.
Am I, am I being distracted bythis little thing when I've got
bigger things to be deliveringand focusing on?

(06:43):
And it's just something that wealways now need to have at the
forefront of our minds,

Miranda (06:47):
And I think that flows really nicely onto a third point
that we're seeing, which is thatwe are moving beyond outdated
workplace models.
Whether it's the hierarchy ofmanagement, whether it's the
idea that working from seven inthe morning till nine at night
is the only way to rise in termsof management status.
guys as well as girls are goingto do the pickups and drop offs
and things like that.

(07:08):
So I think the idea of work is abeing your full life, that's
sort of a bit outdated, that weare definitely seeing a better
priority of family andcommunity, as well as work.
work doesn't necessarily have tobe our family anymore.
We don't need to be doing a lotof those big, just culture
building exercises.
We're happy.
To do great work, feelpurposeful, have balance in our

(07:28):
lives, but not necessarily needthem to coate all of our boxes
and cannot wait to dive intothis one in our episodes because
there's some great conversationswith Simon Sinek and Trevin Noah
made me think, this is a bigissue and this is something
that's not just in my world, butmore broadly, happening out
there in the community.

Claire (07:45):
There is some complexity around it.
We've got competing thoughtsthat everyone is trying to work
through.
evolving attitudes towards, career progression, for example.
We have five generations in thework for, for the first time
ever in the history of humankindand how people are, are, are
seeing things are.
Very different there's lots of,variety in amongst that stuff.

(08:09):
I think, one of the thingsthat's, that balance is out of
sight, out of mind.
How are we connecting, makingsure we're.
seen.
on the flip side wantingflexibility and remote work.
Where's the sweet spot I'm notsure we've nailed that yet, I
think there's work to be doneinto how we do all that.
I agree with you that we don'tjust have home and work.

(08:31):
There's a blended life andopportunity to feel purposeful
wholesome and have successes.
the practicalities of how wework together as five
generations to.
Get everyone's needs met isstill a bit of tension I'm
looking forward to diving intothat topic there's lots to talk
about

Miranda (08:47):
Yeah, absolutely.
And I didn't realize fivegenerations.
Wow.
different upbringings,technology milestones depending
on when you were born, The nextone, I guess, is this focus on
true equality and balance.
this shift beyond real equality, not just gestures.
Ensuring everyone has space tolive a full life beyond work.
Bit of the same, but a bitdifferent that the balance will
make us more resilient andpotentially more creative.

(09:10):
we're seeing more of the, gigeconomy.
portfolio careers.
people that are, really valuingtheir time and, what they're
looking to bring to the table.
And I think that's been quiteinteresting

Claire (09:21):
And to add to that, in terms of true equality, I mean
equality has been a topic onpeople's agendas for, many
years.
I've noticed more discussionsaround, neurodiversity and what
that means for, for people whoare neurodiversity in the
workplace, being much more opento lots of different nuances
around.
What equality means for so manydifferent people.

(09:43):
It's, my mind, there's a lotmore nuanced things around that
other than just binarydiscussions around gender
diversity, what's happening inleadership.
There's so much around everyonebeing able to, take acceptance
and be thoughtful about all thedifferent generational changes,
gender changes, neurodiversechanges, introverts, extroverts,

(10:06):
and all of these complexitiesthat we need to be much more
thoughtful about how we're beinginclusive to many more people.
I really like how it's amulti-dimensional conversation
now.
there's a lot to explore in thatIt's pretty cool.

Miranda (10:19):
I really agree.
it's actually also taken a shiftfrom You bring your whole self
to work, to you bring your workself to work.
sometimes the whole self doesn'twork.
It's actually what's thatrespectful corporate self that's
gonna get the best outcomes outof the team.
And it's not inauthentic, it'sactually just that conversation
belongs at home with yourfamily, whether it's religion

(10:40):
or.
politics or all of those goodthings doesn't belong In the
workplace.
You're here to focus on thepurpose and the outcomes of the
work that you're doing.
So I've quite also seen thatmove from, let's bring our whole
selves to work to bring our workselves to work.
I think that's a good shift.
Which I guess leads me to thethird one, which is just a more
mindful and a less competitiveapproach.

(11:01):
I think this is the first timewe've seen, generations where
it's very, they're looking atvery sideways careers or careers
that are not necessarily justfollowing that standard
corporate ladder that they're,that we're looking to calm down
a bit we've come out of this, ideal of living, this extreme
competitive life to going, whyare we here and what do we wanna
get out of this one beautifullife we wanna contribute to the

(11:23):
workplace do great work andbring our, best selves.
But we also want, a moreintentional, thoughtful way of
working that doesn't have usracing to a finish line, but
actually having whole selfwellbeing.
Claire, you were talking to me acouple of weeks ago about an
awesome article and it wasChef's Kiss.
It was exactly what I wasthinking I don't need to run the
next marathon.
I'm okay with where I am andgetting to do things better

(11:46):
within the environment I'm in.

Claire (11:47):
that was, a HBR.
Article in praise of extrememoderation.
interestingly, it was written in2018, so it's not even, a new
article, but one of the things Ireally liked about that article.
I also really liked the conceptof being satisfied.
Being grateful for what you haveand where we are.

(12:07):
even the smallest things, we getcaught up in social media and,
advertising, want more, buymore, be more.
That's never going away.
in Australia, and I'm not sayingthis is the case for everyone,
there is such a argument forbeing appreciative and satisfied
with the that you're doing, thelife that you're having, and.

(12:29):
celebrating that.
So there's nothing wrong withwanting more and doing more, but
as you said, do we need to beworking 80 hours?
How are we getting that balance?
And I think it all sort ofcircles back to a couple of the
first topics that we're talkingabout that we'll delve into,
into this season.
nothing wrong with being, excited about extreme
moderation, about exercising inmoderation.

(12:51):
Like you said, I don't need torun a marathon, but if I'm
exercising well, I'm eatingpretty good.
I'm sleeping okay.
I've got a great job Good workcolleagues and my family's happy
and healthy.
recognizing that for the thingsthat it is, rather than more,
more, more want, want, want.
And I think that there's so muchopportunity to appreciate those

(13:11):
wonderful things that we have inour lives.
And, and we talked about that inprevious seasons, and I think
that's something that hasn't.
in terms of a theme that we canall, think about and bring to
the forefront a more mindful, less competitive approach, in a
world of ai, blended work, global connection, getting off
our screens.
Human connection humans lookingafter each other and

(13:34):
collaborating not beingcompetitive is essential for.
our place in the future of work.
when technology can do all thesethings for us, moving away from
a, a competitive approach andreally thinking about
collaboration and connection is,really, I think, quite a
fundamental pillar for whatsuccess can look like, for 20,
25 and beyond.

(13:54):
I am looking forward to talkingabout that

Miranda (13:56):
So exciting indicative of how excited we are for these
topics and just this new worldof work.
podcast episodes we've beenthinking about.
the new world of work, redefining success.
Ai critical thinking, humanisticleadership, digital overload,
And bringing creativity intoworkflows I think we need to
close it here for now.
we are looking forward to beingback with a full episode.

(14:17):
From mid-May.
please like and subscribe toensure you don't miss a beat and
help us get the word out that weare back.
Thank you so much, Claire.
It's been an absolute joy.

Claire (14:27):
I'm really excited So good to be back here doing this
again with you, Miranda.
We'll talk very soon.
