Hello and welcome back toanother episode of Elevated, the
podcast helping you build abetter kitchen and bath design
business through innovation andmodernization.
I'm your host, Brandy Lawson, and the topic of this episode is
one of the trickiest parts ofmastering AI, prompt writing.
If you've ever tried this, youmight wonder why it feels so
(00:26):
impossible to get what you wantfrom the AI bot.
Well, first things first, promptwriting is a new skill.
It's much like learning to ridea bike.
When kids learn to ride a bike, they either start with a strider
bike, focusing on balance, ortraining wheels to work on
balance and pedaling with fewerrisks.
Like, the bike won't tip over, right?
Becoming a master at promptengineering is no different.
(00:48):
You can't expect to jump rightinto the tour de France of
prompt riding from the get go.
It takes time, a ton ofpatience, and buckets of support
to build up that muscle.
And yes, there is supportavailable to ease you into this
new skill.
Just like those training wheels, there are awesome resources out
there to help you get started.
Tools like FlowGPT and OptimistPrompt AI are prompt libraries
(01:11):
that make it feel like having apocket full of experts.
FlowGPT, for instance, is avibrant community where the best
new prompts are shared anddiscovered.
It's likely that once you startexploring the prompts there,
you'll even get more ideas aboutwhat AI is capable of.
If deep diving is more yourstyle, LearnPrompting.
org offers a free open sourcecourse that walks you through
(01:32):
communicating with AI from thebasics to advanced techniques.
Using a course allows you tolearn at your own pace and be
able to chart your progress.
One more resource issnackprompt.
com where you can explore, upvote, and share the best AI
prompts for popular platformslike Chat, GPT, and BARD.
Even with the great support ofprompt libraries and courses,
(01:54):
mastering prompt writing isn'tjust about figuring out the
writing part.
LearnPrompting.
org It's about pulling back thecurtain on your thinking
process.
It's tough because, hey, we'renot used to doing this.
Our brains are hardwired forshortcuts, instinctively trying
to minimize effort, which isexactly the opposite of what's
needed when crafting AI prompts.
In his book, Clear Thinking,Shane Parrish shares that we're
(02:16):
essentially blind to theprocesses we use to make
decisions.
unless we actively try tounearth them.
And then there are a myriad offorces driving our decisions,
everything from personal biasesto biological influences.
Prompt writing, in all itstransparency, forces us to
confront these influences headon.
Uncomfortable?
You bet! Worth it?
(02:36):
Jury's out.
No, I'm just kidding.
Very much worth it.
When our team first startedusing AI, that learning curve
felt like Everest.
In those early weeks, using AIwasn't saving us time at all.
We fell into the trap of fixingAI's outputs manually without
feeding those edits back intoAI.
Here's the gold nugget wediscovered.
Continuously updating AI byfeeding back those edited
(02:58):
outputs helps it learn andrefine the kinds of outputs we
need.
This feedback loop is absolutelycritical to the effective use of
AI.
So what's the game plan ifyou're feeling overwhelmed or
stuck?
Practice, practice, and Yeah, you guessed it, more practice.
Be patient with yourself.
Building a new skill doesn'thappen overnight.
Seek help when you need it, andmost importantly, let AI guide
(03:20):
you as well.
It can be a phenomenal teacherthat can help you reflect and
refine your prompts.
Furthermore, prompt writing isgoing to become an absolutely
essential skill very soon.
And even if AI isn't yet part ofyour day to day operation,
developing this skill hasbroader benefits.
By making your thinking moretransparent, you can empower
yourself and your team to makebetter decisions.
(03:42):
It's a chance to share valuableinsights with your organization,
and Creating a collaborativeenvironment where everyone's
better equipped to makedecisions that align with the
company's goals.
In the next episode, we'll betalking about how AI can read
your handwriting and help youreduce the friction of
consolidating information frommultiple inputs and sources.
