Episode 3: Launching the Community Prosecutor Program

On June 14, 2023 the Elk Grove City Council approved a collaborative agreement between the Sacramento County District Attorney’s office and the Elk Grove Police Department for what is known as a Community Prosecutor Program. Elk Grove Police Lieutenant Dan Templeton shares what this means for public safety in the city and how it will help officers and the community. John and Kristyn also introduce a new façade improvement grant program for local businesses and break down the details on city council meetings, a major roadway project, and infill development projects coming south of Elk Grove Blvd.

A community prosecutor is a seasoned veteran
basis with a strong focus onquality of life issues that we

Yes, actually, he's moved in. His name is

Is he then an employee of the Sacramento

Correct. We have hit a home run with this
Okay, so you have a county orCounty DA working here in Elk
prosecutor for Sacramento Countyout of their central station and

first time and absolute niceguy. He lives here in Elk Grove.

The most significant advantageis that instant relationship and

office from me, any officerdetective can access him, we
best overcome those challengesusing any prosecution tools that

John Hull (08:47):
So the idea then is that he is more familiar with

LT Dan Templeton (09:01):
Right. His only cases will be that of Elk
with commute traffic sometimesthat can be an hour round trip

Okay. Back in June 23. An article in the Elk Grove

It's those type of crimes thatsubstance abuse and addiction,

vandalism and any nuisance

Okay. Well, I know county wide, at least according
here in Elk Grove actually cutdown on this kind of crime?

LT Dan Templeton (10:56):
Absolutely. So commonly, most thefts from

jail tour, or outreach throughother methods to try to refocus

I gotta tell you that how huge that is knowing as a

saying, I'm sorry, I messed up.

It completely deletes their criminal arrest,
end up in the criminal justicesystem where now become a cycle

Right. I think earlier, you were mentioning how

LT Dan Templeton (16:43):
Correct. Yeah, Mr. Ortiz will be dedicated to
work that he's performed. I'mreally excited to see a year out

an impact on crime and qualitylife issues, as well as hold

John Hull (17:28):
Right. He will also be helping I imagine with other

LT Dan Templeton (17:37):
Absolutely.
Our Detective Division will havepick his brain and get some
guidance. In law enforcement, weand our detectives are gonna

learn so much from him. I'vethings that we may just not know
of. He is so knowledgeable in
