Welcome to the Embrace to turn UpPodcast. Cultural commentary from two guys who
want all the smoke, all thesmoke and now you're hosts A Dumb and
John John. Welcome to the Embraceto turn Up Podcast. It's your boy,

(00:26):
ye Dub, the pod guy,the pod tribal chief, if you
will, and we're gonna switch itup Embrace. The turn up isn't all
about the turn ups in the partyscene and being out in these street Sometimes
sometimes the turn up is something different. And today's turn up is summer television
because summer television is just phenomenal.Pristige television that Hbox brought us back in

(00:48):
the day has just leaked all intoour lives and we get some good stuff
out of it. And for Pristige'stelevision, there's one person I wore.
Those few people I would turn tofor this specific episode, I got to
Homie hen Rods in the building,Henry Zi. It's been a few weeks
that you've been on the bot somethingeh, not much. I know,

(01:08):
we cut the opening, but Igot jobs that you know, we take
those pretty sure that I didn't haveone last time I was on here.
I was just getting one. Youdid not you were interviewing for them,
Yes, yes, yes, welcometo employeed life. Man. Yeah,
yeah, yeah it sucks. Yeah, oh man, that's why. That's

(01:30):
why we got prestige television, right, yes, and a ton of it
that I have struggled to catch upon. But there is one specific show
that I have not struggled to keepup with. So I was thinking about
that the other day, Like youwere like, how much like high quality
like television we have to consume nowadays, Like the nineties and early two thousands,

(01:53):
Yeah, I mean you mentioned it, right. HBO and FX were
kind of the the areas to gofor prestige television. I think one of
the ancient Empire shows was on Showtime, Rome was HBO. I don't remember
which one was on Showtime, Butso Showtime sort of had their foot in,

(02:13):
but not really and they still don'treally. But now we've got AMC
that you know, has had MadMen and The Walking Dead, if you
want to call it. Prestige televisionstarted out that way a little bit.
We've got you know, Amazon Primeand Netflix and all of the streaming services
that have their own it's actually justimpossible to keep up with. I'm convinced

(02:39):
that. Look, I was unemployedfor two years and couldn't do it.
Those are your q on Netflix andthe streaming services just seem to keep getting
longer in your life, even ifyou knock something out. It's it is
no different from video games anymore.Right, video games in the nineties,
Hey, cool Golden Golden Eyes out, and you have another cool release in

(03:00):
like four or five months. Nowit's there are five things that are interesting
a week, and then you addingyou add into that, like and then
it gets worse if like if you'rein to say, like anime or something,
because there's a new anime show that'sprestige. It feels like every week.

(03:20):
Now. I got a cousin whogoes to like the cons and stuff,
and like she keeps me up todate on what the newer stuff is.
I'm still like ten suggestions behind ofwhat she's told me about. I
still haven't caught up on Demon Slayer, Like, dude, I haven't.
I haven't either Devon Slayer, BlackClover, Like, I know there's a
new season of my hero out,but they haven't started dubbing it yet.

(03:42):
Yeah, I watched Dubbs. Fuckeverybody, It's fine. I don't I
pay enough money and I'll make enoughmoney where I don't want to read my
television show Gun, which is anotherprestige show that I haven't watched it.
I only watched the first two episodes. I want to finish it. But
I'm also kind of sad. Theysaid there's probably not gonna be a season

(04:03):
two because of how they wrap thestory up. I was like, man,
I thought I heard they were doingit, which is weird because so
the books, the book series isthree books, but they cover different eras.
But what I've heard is that they'regoing to try to extend the story
of season one and keep some ofthe same characters. So they're going off
script on the book and I haveno idea how that's well. I mean

(04:24):
all I heard that news like aroundyou know, episodes two and three.
I mean, I'm sure once theyfinish it out and they realize there's money
on the line. To quote thegreat Charlie Sheen Chris Tucker movie, money
talks at all times, I getit. So I was thinking about that
the other day, like with howmuch, just like pressed each television there

(04:45):
is in addition to you know, the anime, the video games, the
sports. So let me ask youthis question, Henry, before we get
into our big topic. What iswhat is your like your mindless watch?
Something you put on is to haveon in the background as you do other
things, as you know, yousurf the web, you're serf, you're
doing stuff for work, cleaning up. What is your mindless background show?

(05:08):
Mine has never been TV shows.Normally. I'll do music ninety nine percent
of the time. When I wasyounger, it would be movies that I've
seen a billion times over. Itwould be like the Harry Potter series,
or I'd throw on Nolan's Batman trilogy. I've seen those movies one hundred times,
right, I don't need to lookat them to know what's going on,

(05:30):
so stuff like that. But anymore, I just throw on Spotify,
whether it's podcast or music. Whichis probably why I'm so far behind,
is because you know, when whenI am doing stuff outside of work,
it is trying to cover all ofthe bases of trying to stay up on
video games and movies and TV shows, and then when I am working,

(05:50):
I have none of that going. So yeah, I think for me,
I'm still a huge South Far guy, so I'll cut that on it anytime
when I just need something on thebackground. Key and Peel still a good
one for me. And shout outto the guys at T n T and
FX because every single day they're showingthe Marvel movie and god knows, I've

(06:13):
seen all of those A billions Isaw. I think FX is doing right
now. I think that I thinkWinter Soldiers on as we record, and
then they're doing the first two Avengersmovies. I mean, so I was
like, yeah, perfect. I'mlike, I'm probably gonna fold some clothes
later. Perfect to have on whileI'm just kind of meandering around. And

(06:35):
you know, yeah, it usedit used to be that was on every
weekend, every single week you needsomething on the background. And and the
original three Star Wars, Yeah,I feel like those are on TVs every
single weekend starting at about eight inthe morning. Yep. And like I
think, I think Sci Fi hasHarry Potter right now there all the time,

(06:59):
I think, I I think Network, but they're typically on at least
one weekend a month, if notevery weekend for sure. I think I
was in my preteens before I likeI watched like all three of the original
Star Wars in full and like inone sitting. But I'd seen them all
and bits and pieces growing up fromlike ages six to like eight, just
like on in the background. Andthen you know, your kid, you

(07:21):
start playing with toys, you gofind a snack. So like I was,
like, I thought about it likewhen I was really young. I
was like, I've never watched allthese all the way through in one city
yep, and without commercials. AndI finally did it before the prequels came
out when I was a kid.But anyways, start as you say,

(07:43):
other trilogies, Lord of the Ringsback in the future, just throw those
on at any point in time.Oh yeah, you throw the Lord of
the Rings on, You're good fora whole weekend pretty much. Yeah.
So, like like I said, just stuff that I've seen a billion times
over. It's a great background noise, great background noise. But the show's

(08:05):
we got this summer not background noiseat all. I'm not caught Yeah,
but what show will weird? We'realmost all caught up on Henry has not
seen the latest episode as this recording. But the boys, Yeah, what

(08:26):
what a show. I don't knowwhere to start with this season. They're
they're leaning in pretty heavy here,Yeah, what was okay? So The
Boys has always been satire and hasalways been pretty in your face about it,
but this season especially, it's likepunching you at the face, Like
if you don't understand that this ismaking fun of half the population of the

(08:52):
US, I feel like you're willfullyignorant at that point. Yes, and
I kind of want to start there, because this show, like Star Wars
the Acte, is getting a reviewbombed a lot, a lot, I
believe it, Henry, If youhad to guess what was the other show

(09:13):
that the review bombers reviewed on RottenTomatoes, what do you think it would
be? It's no, Well,it's it's just another show that's in the
zeitgeist right now. I'll give youa hint. It is a prestige show.
But if you look at all thereviewers on Rotten Tomatoes who have just
bombed this show, the only theonly have it all in common one other

(09:35):
show they reviewed, I would assumeit's a bipoca character. No, this
is this show that other show theyreviewed it they gave five stars too.
Oh, let me know, YellowStar, which I will say is a
fantastic show I've heard I haven't watchedit. I don't have fair amount.
It is a fantastic show and I'mpretty excited for it to come back.

(10:00):
I think in November. I thinkit's the fifth Sieson is gonna be the
final season. So really good show. I just I find that funny.
And then the only other thing theyreviewed as like that movie with Jim covizl
in it that came out last yearabout him like fighting traffickers or something.
Oh yeah, go read about whothat is based on? Interesting story.

(10:24):
I don't know. I saw thetrailer for the movie, and I'm like
that one got weird because apparently therewere rumors flying around I will stress rumors.
I don't know if it was everfirm that the company that produced it
itself was going around and buying outtheaters to make it seem like it was
selling out and making more money andgetting more press. Because there were a

(10:46):
few people on Reddit that said thatthey had like sold out shows that worked
for movie theaters that walked in thereand there was like five people in the
audience, So again heavily rumored.I don't know that for a fact.
I just know what was anecdotal evidenceon the internet. Which, as we
know, we can take his gospel. Internet has never lied to us,

(11:07):
right, oh yeah no. Butlike the review bombing on the show is
it's so crazy, Like when Ibecause I found down to a rabbit hole.
I started reading them and people werethey were calling this show, oh
yeah, season four. Now yeah, they were calling this show woke at
season four and I was like, time out, I've been watching well yeah,

(11:31):
like what you what have you beenwatching for four years? Like wait
a minute. The main characters includean illegal immigrant who can't speak due to
psychological reasons, a bisexual French drugaddict, a black guy who who has
a myriad of issues. I'm like, yeah, I'm like, what's going

(11:56):
on here? And let's look atwho the antire it said Ben one was
a literal Nazi, literal actual Nazi, Like who who the main one of
the main characters that people thought wasthe hero had a relationship with, knowing
full well she was a Nazi thatwas in season two, was like,

(12:18):
how did it take you two moreyears? I'm like, oh, like,
oh, you guys haven't been watchingit. So like when you read
that and you're like, oh,these people are that stupid? No?
I I see why you had totake the gloves off and just be really
apparent with who you're talking to andwhy. I get it, totally getting

(12:41):
now, hen Rods, you haven'tseen the last episode, no, but
I will say there's something in therethat like might jump in the top six
of nastiest things I've seen in theshow, which that is an impressively awful
list. What what's number one fromthis season for you spoilers hit guys from

(13:05):
this season. From this season ona psychological level, it's what Homelinder did
to the director at U when hewent quote home in episode four. That
is that is one of the mostmessed up things I've ever seen on television.
And he didn't lay a finger onher. Yeah, that that's up
there. The veat up chickens flyingthrough my guy's chest that whoa, Yeah,

(13:33):
that was that was insane on somany levels. And I was going
to explain that like, oh,my man wasn't here, just like experimenting
on animals. One died and theplug out into the drinking water. I'm
like, okay, checks out.So not everybody on the show is completely
an utterly insane. Zoe, theVP's daughter, Oh yeah, now,

(13:56):
becoming a I guess hydra tongued monster. Yeah, I guess it's almost like
a predator mouth. Yeah, thereyou go. That was terrifying, and
that was an episode one. Imean, we knew they were gonna be
repercussions. We literally watched her shoother up with the uh she was dad

(14:22):
just phasing in and out of peopleWHOA, whoa and like and not not
being able to get his thoughts togetherbecause he was brain dead for like seventy
two hours. Yeah, which makeme? What does that make him like
a veat up zombie? Technically?I mean, I'm not sure the amount

(14:45):
of time you have to be braindead to be legally dead, but I
mean we keep people alive on purposea decent amount bring them back, So
no, I don't think so,right, because if you think about it,
his body was still functioning as ifa normal as human being. He's

(15:05):
still to heart and blood and allthe zombies I typically think about as completely
decayed where the inside of them doesn'twork anymore, but somehow they are still
functional, except for the zombies andlast of us who are just being controlled
by mushrooms. Yeah, then yes, cortyscepts just take over everything yeah.

(15:26):
Yeah, still have to finish thatshow too. Wait you never finished watching
it? No, I got busywith stuff, and then I realized I
was like three episodes to the finish, and yeah, I know, all
right, I'll make a deal overover fourth of July weekend, I will
watch The Acolyte and you will finish. Uh. Oh, I almost said

(15:48):
the Walking Dad, Wow, thelast of us. Oh, I got
to finish The Walking Dead. Brotherhe way moared a weekend here for that,
and they lost me a long timeago. So same here. I
think I have to go back tothe introduction of Vegan. It's starts from
there. That's about spell where Istopped. She started taking bats to people.

(16:11):
I was like, all right,we've done this trophe of the Humans
are the road monsters to death atthis point. Thanks yeah pun intended here.
I Yeah. Another crazy nasty thingthat happens in season four episode of
the season four episode of season fourof The Boys is Sister Sage Mole bottomizing

(16:37):
herself or in one episode, havingthe Deep do it. Yeah. Well,
so I was thinking about that earlierand a question popped into my head
as to whether she was bottomized whenHolelander came talked to her the very first
time, and like how much?First of all, how often does she

(17:03):
do it? It looks like sheonly does it at night, but maybe
not. And how much of herdecision making during that time, like actually
affects her overall? Do you thinkshe has some control to say, I'm
not gonna do the dumbest things whileI'm lobotomized, or do you think she
does some really stupid stuff because let'sbe honest, she sleeps with it deep,

(17:26):
which is very stupid. Yeah,I mean it has to deal with
the repercussions of that later. Well, so I would say I think when
she after she does it, shejust does the dumbest thing she does,
Like, think about the dumbest humanbeing you know, who just does whatever
comes in her mind first and enjoyswhat you would consider the most lowbrow entertainment.

(17:48):
And that's who she becomes, because, as you see when she does
it the first time, she's watchingreality TV. No, No, it's
a specific type. Absolutely despised isthe Housewives of blankety blank, where there's
the stage flipping of the tables andwomen yelling at each other, and and

(18:11):
it's coming from a guy who lovesto watch those dating reality I'm gonna blow
up my life to get some realityshows. Those those interest me because I
like watching people do stupid shit andblow up their lives because cameras are on
them and their horny. I thinkthat's fucking hilarious. I really do.
Or the dating ones that are thelegit social experiments, like the Nicholas sla

(18:33):
Verse if you will, which Iknow you're not big reality guy, hen
Rods, but the watch the AmazingRace. Yeah, the NASS social experiment.
Dating it's pretty good. It's prettyit's pretty good for reality TV standards.
I mean it's no guys grocery games. But again, what is right?

(18:55):
Uh? Never reached that high Againwhat Devi said, like, yeah,
she's watching specific type of low browreality that even for reality TV's low
brow, like, they couldn't havegot any more low brow less. They
just put the Jersey Shore on,which what a what a moment, guys,
You guys are around for that. That show captivated this country myself included,

(19:22):
to watch these ignorant, just peoplejust exist. I was like,
I can't turn away. This islike a car accident. This is that
And they kept it on for sixmore seasons and still going strong, even
though people lere in their mid forties. Now. I have never watched a
single episode of it, but that'swhile it was on. I could name

(19:47):
every person on that show. Ican't anymore. But while it was on,
having never watched anything, I couldname every single person. Yeah.
It took over. Yeah, ittook over to the point where it became
one of the only things to survivethe downfall of MTV. That and Rob
Deerdick and ridiculousness, because now allMTV is is nineteen hours of ridiculousness and

(20:12):
sure, and I can't forget aboutTeam. I cannot tell you the last
time that I flipped on MTV.Carson Daily was still doing the Countdown.
I think Carson Daily Boy. Andthen I found Fews and that was music
videos for a while, and thenYouTube put them both out of business.

(20:33):
Yeah, yeah, I can't tellyou last time. I just said and
watched music videos. I think. Then I can tell you the next music
video I'm going to watch. They'renot like us when that video comes out,
oh turning out on repeat? Doeshe even need to do a music
video for it? I feel likeit's already already done. Oh, is
it sorry done? They just theyjust put out some promo photos today.

(20:56):
Okay, yeah, it's already done. He taped it the day after that
concert, and kind he played itfive times or six times, six times.
It's great. It was great. At least I think they were all
in a row, or at leastfive of them were. It was all
in the row. It was great. It was It was one of the
greatest moments of my life. AndI wasn't even there. I was so
happy. Anyways, back to theboys. Oh my god, there's something

(21:23):
that happens in the newest episode thatI wanted to talk to you about after
I just saw it like ten minutesago, but I can't. We'll say
that for later. So we seein the season that a Train is like
he's teetering. He wants out ofthis, but he knows Homelanner can kill
him in an instant, so he'skind of back door and stuff doing things

(21:44):
with MM, trying to you know, get Ashley to help him. Yeah,
gave the Vita Huie. The backfiredspectacularly. Does do you think a
Train survives this whole season? Ithink if even if he gets through this
season, he doesn't get through nextno and yeah, yeah, definitely ends
with a trained eye and better question, better question, do they all turn

(22:11):
off home Land except for the Deepmaybe because he's an idiot? I feel
like that's too easy. At thesame time, I mean, I mean,
I think my problem with all ofthem turning on Homelander is how do
you justify it when they already knowwhat he's done, like what could be
worse than what he's already done towhere they feel the need to turn off

(22:33):
him him becoming ruler of the Earth. But at the same time, like,
no matter where he is on Earthright now, you know he's the
most powerful person, right and youknow that he's a ticking time bombs should
you ever piss him off? Becausehe's got some need to be perfect.

(22:55):
So Huberist comes in at some pointof believing that even if know, I
know he's a taking time boby andhe's kind of crazy, but I'm still
me though, I'm still a soup. And you know that's where the the
god complex of these people comes in. I'll be all right, I'm still
soup. You know, I'm oneof us. Since when they realize that

(23:15):
there's a threat against themselves from him, Yeah, when they realize that,
like, hey, it don't matter, he's insane. He really is insane.
He's going to kill you, isgoing to kill everyone, and those
who survived from the be his pets. And then you know, in some
cases, you know, people whoside with the villains sometimes say it's better

(23:37):
to be you know, a petthan cattle when you have other soups,
they're not they can't subscribe to thattheory. Again, the god complex is
very strong and all of these characters. Yeah, so I think I think
that's a plausible theory of why,you know, I could see the end
it happening of you know, theseven turning on him. But again,

(24:00):
also depends on what happens in GenBseason two. Also depends on, you
know, if Butcher can get thisvirus and you know, get it strong
enough to kill Homelander, and dependson what happens with Ryan, who's clearly
clearly being influenced. It's funny, like, I think the story of Ryan
and the show is really interesting becauseyou meet him in what season three or

(24:25):
is the season two season two?So you meet him in season two and
he's a kid who has had hismother's whole life and then in season four
he's a kid who just has hisfather and his father is an insane person.
Yeah, so you see the taleof two influences if you will,

(24:48):
and you're like, oh, it'sbad when he when he has an old
girl just beat up that director whowas a creep. Is putting it nicely.
Yeah, that's that's very kind ofyou, dubs. Yeah, putting
it nicely is a creep And likeshe's like, yeah, just keep punching
it, and she's she's loving it. Again. All these people that work

(25:12):
in water just so so fucked upin so many ways. Yes they are.
Don't work for mega corporations. They'llstill your soul and you won't even
know it. Trust me. Yeah, I worked out one. So obviously
you're an episode ahead of name.Yeah, but so don't answer this if
I get my answer the hour afterwe finish this. We've seen two of

(25:38):
Gend's characters show up in very, very minor roles this season. Do you
think gen Dy sort of becomes theBook of Boba Fat of the Boys universe
in that what started as sort ofa spin off becomes integrated into its integrated

(26:00):
into the main plot. So amore heavily influenced, right right, Book
of Boba Fat started about Boba Fatand very much ended about the Mandalorian,
right Yeah, And I think evenmore so because if you look at the
characters engen V, they are veryimportant. I mean, old girl,
she can control blood. Like you. If you're looking for somebody to put

(26:25):
down a Homelander, surprise, justexplode him. Yeah, inside out.
Now they're gonna have to do someret conon a little bit because my mans
would play Polarity passed away in thatmotorcycle accident rip to him. So they're
gonna have to kind of fill thatvoid with a new character, Polarity Son,

(26:47):
right, not Clarity himself. Wellyeah, they were gonna rename him
Polarity. Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, no, No, the guy
who played Polarity, I think thatwas Derek Luke was still a lot but
yah know, so they're gonna haveto like fill that void. But yeah,
like those characters are going to belike very very important, and I

(27:08):
think this season ends with like Butcherbreaking those kids out and then those kids
becoming part of the boys in thatvery fucked up way, and then I
mean I can't imagine, you know, after dealing with they dealt with that
to that school and then being lockedup having to go deal with Billy Butcher.
That does not sound like a vacationat all. It just sounds like

(27:30):
one step above being locked up,honestly, right, real quick, Sean
Patrick Thomas not Derek Luke, Okay, my apologies again, both alive.
Yes, those are definitely two blackactors. I always get confused, like
they they play similar roles in likein a lot of movies. They don't

(27:51):
look a light now that I'm puttingthem both in my head, but again,
they play such similar roles in alot of movies, and I'm like,
yeah, no, anyways, I'mnot racist against my own people.
It's fine. They just play someof the roles a lot. It's like
the guy who plays and Man andgetting them confused with h tchamorro Moore from
Young and the Restless. They playsome of the roles whatever. Anyways,

(28:14):
Oh yeah, the gen v kidsare going to be part of the boys,
I think in season five and becauseagain they got Homeland and Mortal Kombat.
He's pretty powerful, Like they're gonnaneed all the help they can get.
And it sounded like, you know, Homeland's plotting to kill the president,
so yeah, or to the president. No, Holand doesn't want to

(28:41):
be president because like, like, like Lex Luthor said in season two of
Justice League Unlimited, I don't wantto be president. You know how much
power to have to give up tobe president? You want that, you
know want and you'll see and you'llsee in this upcoming episode about why because
he like he wants carte blanche andas we know, the president does not

(29:04):
have carte blanche. Well, theSupreme Court might disagree with you there,
but I mean again, no,right, no that that aside what I'm
saying, like he has he hasto answer to a lot of people and
do a lot of things. Hecan't just like unilaterally do things right.
He has to like consider other thingsthan other people. And oh, man,

(29:29):
like they started asking some questions andhe like, oh, he's not
built for this. He not builtfor this. He's built for everybody just
to bend the knee. Interesting.I mean, we know that, but
it'll be interesting to see how theyyou know, actually explicitly show that at
the show and talk about it.It's right, it's very good, it's
very it's good ship. It's suchsuch good ship hen Riots. So do

(29:56):
you think do you think to seeit show ending with season five? Do
you think they're gonna be able towrap it all up by the end of
season five or do you think itneeds like a six. I think they
can do it by five. Firstof all, I think that was always
the plan, or at least theinitial thought was five seasons, So it's
not like they were ever treading waterand you know, being unsure whether it

(30:26):
was going to end there. Maybethey didn't know that they were going to
get five seasons, but as faras I know, it was always planned
to be around that length. Sowith that in mind, and if gen
V was sort of always in them, always there as well, or they
find a way to integrate it,well, I think gen D was a

(30:48):
solid enough show to get the foundationfor the characters. Obviously, if they're
going to use them and the boys, they'll need to integrate them and introduce
them to the audience that didn't watchGender, which is why I was wondering
if you're if you ever thought thatgen D would become necessary and that it
would tie in as closely as someof the other stuff that I mentioned.

(31:11):
But yeah, I think they cando it in five I think people are
you hear talk all the time aboutplots sort of going on too long,
or becoming predictable or spinning their wheels. I think by this time we know
what Homelander is. Watching him dohis thing for another season. Yeah,
it's horrifying and it has its moments, but does it really add to what

(31:37):
we already know about it? Andconsidering we know or are ninety nine percent
sure that he is the main villainof the show and has been since the
start, how many seasons do youreally need to set that up to show
his downfall? So do you whendo you think we started getting like the
full descent and the madness by theend of this season. If we're not

(32:00):
already watching it, he's already he'salready got you know, the tics,
and you know he broke the mirrorand started talking in different versions of himself.
Yeah, his green Goblin moment.Yeah yeah, yeah, so and
I had to catch myself. Ialmost told you something left this upcoming episode
too. Yeah, but yeah, like, if we're not already watching it,

(32:22):
then by the end of the seasonit'll be full blown meltdown. And
I think next season will be aboutcleaning that up. I think that season
will be about just figuring out howto kill him. I mean, that's
that's what I was referring to,right Oh yeah, to clean up a
full blown meltdown of the super villainyou killed one. Oh, I just
had I just had a thought.Light bulbs going off in dubs his mind

(32:46):
right now in rods. If youwere writing the show, would you end
season four with homelanderstorm in the Capitol, because I think I would. Okay,
that's going farther than like punching youin the face with obvious obviously that
is I don't even know. Iwill say I don't think the writers are

(33:08):
ever going to be able to pullthemselves away from that idea if they had
it, and I do not doubtthat they've had it. I feel like
if you were writing this show andyou were like, hey, guys,
we're going there this season, andthen you turn on your TV January sixth
of last year and you're like,oh, well, we just we don't

(33:30):
even have to write anymore. Holdon, guys, I know, I
know we're on episode nine and finishedup the season. Throw all that shit
away. We gotta we gotta watchthe news for the day, then start
writing again. I'll buy the coffee. Like I think, if I was
in that writer's room, there's nota chance I would end the season and

(33:54):
not have Homelander, Firecracker and justa bunch of just Homelander. I don't
know, fanatics storming the fucking capital. Yeah, I don't even know that
sounds it sounds entirely plausible, whichis, you know, it says everything

(34:15):
you need to about the boys. And even better, you start off season
five Homelander is trying to storm theCapitol to kill the president, and Soldier
Boys defending the president. They digSoldier Boy out of wherever the fuck he
is and he's defending the president. And then you start season five with bought

(34:39):
freaking their stock is in the toilet, Ashley's losing her mind, doesn't know
what to do, Homelanders declared anenemy of the state, and oh,
you could do so much, Youcould do so much, And then you
got the propaganda machine of what happeningat THENN and online. Yeah, I

(35:05):
would have a ball with this ridingfrom this writer's rum. But let's leave
all that there. Let's go fromone o P superpower crazy super human to
a superpowered Kryptonian, whose writer iswhose original writer and creator is from where?

(35:29):
Henra Cleveland? You know what? No, dude, that made Superman's
from Cleveland. Yeah, so Isent you a picture a couple hours ago.
Yeah, the costumes. So theseare set photos from the new Superman
movie. We have Nathan Fillion asGuy Gardner, and I don't know the

(35:53):
other two actors. I'm not evegonna pretend I can remember their names.
Yeah at all. So we gothot Girl and we also have mister Terrific.
What are your thoughts on the costumes? First and foremost, I mean,
not a huge fan, if I'mbeing honest. But it's also really

(36:14):
hard to tell in set photos, right, Like, yeah, we've we've
seen set photos. Typically with setphotos, I'm I'm excited, Oh cool,
they're shooting, they're moving forward withthe project. I don't typically look
at them and go, man, that costume's awesome or that costume sucks,
because how it looks in a random, low res set photo faking from who

(36:35):
knows how far away, in unofficiallike unofficial shots, which to be fair,
could be bull shots. Sometimes Idon't put much stock into it if
it looks terrible, in the movie. It looks terrible in the movie,
and I'll make a comment on itthen, Like here, Nathan Fillion doesn't
even look like he's shooting. Helooks like he's just walking around on set.

(36:59):
Hawk Girl looks like she's getting somethingdone to her costume at the time,
And I'm not sure about mister Terrific. He looks like he might be
shooting at the time. So misterTerrific, he's got a cell phone in
his hands. He's taking pictures ofsomething else. True, mister Triffer's costume
is like on comic book accurate.Okay, that being said, Like seeing

(37:21):
the photos I've seen, I waslike, eh, you probably could have
gone away from this one. It'sone of those things, like it's one
of those things you see in comicbooks in your and cartoons and you're like,
well, okay, you see thelive action, You're like, could
he use like a little bit ofartistic freedom here, like like the backstory
to Iron Fist it's dated, yes, and you're like, ooh, let's

(37:47):
let's rewrite this for twenty twenty four. But that be has said, like
we are living in a very comicbook accurate era, as we've seen the
pictures of Wolverine coming up, andyep, and I do like the Superman
costume. I will say that fromthe official photos I've seen, I did
see that one. Pen Rod's haveyou heard the plot that's been rumored for

(38:13):
this movie. I've not heard anythingabout this movie. I saw the official
Superman photo that I didn't know allthese other heroes were going to be in
it. I knew it's terrific wasgoing to be in it, but again,
I thought he was just gonna likebe a guy and then become a
hero later. And then like Istarted seeing these photos come out, and
then I read the rumored plot here. Let me let me break it down

(38:37):
for you, socast. In thisrumored plot to the New Superman movie,
superheroes already exist, they're they're around, but they also kill when needed.
And Superman comes around as the newhero and everybody knows Crucks the Superman will

(39:01):
not kill, will not kill onethousand percent, and he's trying to show
the heroes of this world a betterway. Okay, And there's also this
thing of the heroes are also financedby Maxwell Lord, which is why their
costumes are pretty snazzy. Yeah, their corporate heroes, if you will.

(39:23):
Yeah, so Superman try less screwedup, but yeah, Superman is trying
to show them a better way andalso trying to show them that Maxwell Lord
is a terrible person. Right,But then there's also this thing of the
government doesn't trust Superman at all becausehe's an illegal literally yes, at an

(39:46):
actual alien. So they you know, they use their spoilers for anyone didn't
know that Superman's actually from a differentplanet, my bad. So they use
all of their government things and theytry to and I think they use some
of his DNA that he like lostin a fight to come up with their
own Superman a clone if you will. Who is Ultraman? And for those

(40:07):
who don't know and the comics,Ultraman is a variant of Superman in another
universe. The universe has the JusticeLord to do kill and they pretty much
just run the world. Ultraman isbasically like the US Agent but was Superman's
powers. And at some point inthe movie, Ultraman, because his DNA

(40:31):
is unstable, goes insane and becomeswhat we typically know is bizarro. Wow
there already, so yeah, andagain you find out it's because of some
shit that Maxwell Lord was doing, and the other heroes finally come around to
Superwoman's way of thinking and team upwith him to help him defeat Bizarro.

(40:57):
Your thoughts. I find it interestingthat they're just jumping right into one of
Superman's biggest villains in movie one. He's gotten just saying, I'm wasting no
time setting stuff up. Everyone knowswho Superman is. We've had five origin
stories with him, so we're we'rehitting the gas and going. I will
be interested to see how that worksout for it. I mean we are

(41:21):
going on a river, right,Yeah, No, this is this is
all rumor. I will say.I have seen a set photo of like
a government agent. I have Supermanand cups and he has a mask on
and the Ultraman logo is like, okay, it's as clear as dath.
So the Ultraman parts and veracity here. Yeah, the ultra Man is in
this movie. Okay. And MaxwellLord has already been cash as well,

(41:46):
so like that. I don't knowhow like spot on this this is,
but it sounds feasible given what we'veseen. Yeah, and no, huh,
I mean what I've heard is otherhuge in this movie that haven't been
like set photoed yet as well,So like, there there's a lot going
on in this movie. Yeah.I read this and I was like,

(42:09):
oh, okay, sounds interesting.I like the fact that like they're just
they're gonna throw a bunch of heroesin off rip and we don't have to
wait to get them. You know. That introduced that I was gonna mention
is he's sort of you know,I trust gunning this. He has a
history of throwing around superheroes that peoplehaven't really heard of before and making it

(42:31):
work. Did it with Guardians, did it with Suicide Squad? Right?
And then look at this like it'sa it's a bless cast of characters.
Like you're talking about mister Terrific HawkGirl, Guy Gardner, the Earth's third

(42:51):
or fourth Green Lantern. They saysupergirls in this movie. Who else metamorpho
Again, if you're not watching cartoons, you have no c who these characters
are. Yeah, except for maybehot girls hall girls. Yeah, cross
into the guys. But yeah, like, like I mentioned, he has
a history of making this work,So I can't say that I'm mad that

(43:13):
he's putting a whole bunch of deelisters in there. Because we've seen it
before and we trust and this whatand James Gunn we trust basically like where's
he failed recently? Guardians one, two, and three year are all solid,
Suicide Squad was solid. Uh,great, Maker is great. That's

(43:34):
where I was going next. Sosure he's bound to have a failure eventually,
but so far this project is exactlywhere he's It's right in his lane
of where he's made work in thepast. I'll tell you what if he
fails at this one, I stillblame the source material. I'm not James
Gunn, Like it's just DC mightjust suck in fact for uh and Dolan

(43:57):
and Matt Reeves. Hey, Imean Blue Bleed. It wasn't bad.
It wasn't but I've heard it's okay. It wasn't great. It was a
movie that exists, and you're like, this is cool. I don't see.
Like I think the part that bothersme most about Blue Beetle is like
his introduction seems like it should happenlater as part of like a planned story

(44:22):
of like introducing younger heroes, becauselike, if you think about who the
heroes are in the Titan Slash YoungJustice verse, Blue Beatle's second tier hero,
even though he's obviously one of themost powerful ones. Second tier.
So then at that point he becomesobvious is that, Hey, let's get

(44:43):
the Tino audiences to the theater andyou're like, ah, I see what
you're doing. I'm not mad atit, but there was a better way
and a better timeline to do this. Yeah, I'm gonna jump back to
a comment you just made about thesource material, and then maybe the to
be our last topic because we're comingup on an hour, is the last

(45:04):
good Superman movie? Like Superman twowith Christopher Reeve, I thought Man of
Steel was a good movie. Ithink it's okay. I don't think it's
bad, but I don't know ifI do good, whereas like Superman one
and two are consider you know, really good classic superhero Yeah, but like
I don't. I just I thinkMan of Steel's it's a good telling of

(45:27):
that story, and especially of theodd story. I think where people get
like turned off of Man of Steelis they remember what the follow up is.
That's fair, but I think ifyou go and look at reaction at
the time, it was sort ofmiddling as well, if I remember correctly.
Again, I blame it on thesource material, which is why I

(45:47):
was asking, because you know,Superman one and two is based on that
source material, Rightman, don't rememberbeing that good, but maybe I'm just
missrememvering, so I'm Superman one andtwo. Y'alls to have to remember,
like we didn't have a lot ofsuperhero movies to like judge it against either
fair like, it's it's real easyto be good when you're you know,

(46:07):
the first two. You know, yeah, rappers Delight was the greatest hip
hop song of all time for along time. Again, first one,
you're like, well, all right, all right, you know, and
it still holds up. You hearit at a party with a bunch of
your old family. A lot ofthem still know the words, and it
still still rocks a little bit.But you're like, there is better stuff

(46:29):
now, exactly exactly so like andeven Superman one or two, like even
going so far passed when those moviescame out, it was still the best
two because three was god awful. And then you know, you started throwing
Adam West on TV as Batman andit became campy. It wasn't until Tim

(46:49):
Burton put out those first two Batmansand you were like, oh, yep,
because even before that, like, yeah, Marvel tried an Avengers movie
in the early nineties, which lookedgod awful. They try to they try
a super Friends movie with a bunchof b lists Justice leaguers. Again that

(47:13):
was awful, and you're like, when is this gonna get good again?
And you're like, oh, yougive the crazy Gos guy a budget and
just let him go and that andthat's what you got. So yeah,
but again, and then we hitprestige once Nolan got his hands on it,
and that really is what you knowmade superhero movies. Well, Raby

(47:36):
spider Man's I would I would argueX Men doing the numbers they did in
two thousand is what really. Yeah, broke the Sorry I did jump to
them a little bit. We hadX Men one, x Men two,
we don't talk about three, andthen we had Spider Man one and Spider
Man two and we don't talk aboutthree. Yeah, Spider spider Man blew
the doors off of Yo. Thisis big money again, Yeah, like

(47:57):
this is big, big money. But X Men it was like, hey,
we can make money over here, and we don't like, we don't
have to do much we can justlike grab these these IP rights and just
make movies. Yeah, and theywere like, oh word, let's buy
them all. Fuck it. DaredevilElectra Nick Cage is the ghostwriter. What

(48:19):
excuse me? At least we didfinally get a good ghost writer story,
though just not with their kitch. We did. We did Shield, Yes,
which Amazon Prime, who now hasrights to that, suggests that I
watch and I don't know how totell himaz On Prime. Hey, Amazon
Prime, I've watched this all theway through five times. I'm good for
a year or two. I'll beall right, fair enough, And I

(48:43):
kind of just want to end iton this. If you were looking for
prestige television to watch, Netflix justadded Loss back onto it. Fucking show
Man. It just it won't leaveme alone. It's's least favorite show of
all time, so I had tothrow it out. Henry, I'm gonna
tell you this. If people starttalking to me about Lost, why people

(49:06):
are now talking about suits, I'mgonna get into a lot of fights.
I'm just gonna hit people. Ohif someone looks me in my eyes and
say the last season of Loss isgreat, I might go to jail for
murder. No recommended yeah, don'tever tell me that. Oh like a
fuck that show man, Fuck thatshow. But all right, guys,

(49:30):
