My biggest challenge at themoment is how to gain followers
on Instagram.
It feels as if the right people,ideal clients are following and
commenting and reacting to myInstagram post.
Yet the amount of people has notgone up in quantity very much in

Of the few artists I followmyself that appear to be selling
a lot successfully on Instagram.
Those artists all have over10,000 followers.
I have 380 followers.
My few Instagram followers havenot purchased anything in over a
year.
So I'm interested in gaining newfollowers, but how?"

I really appreciate thisquestion because I have heard
this story from a lot of you.
Almost all of you.
You feel like your social mediagrowth has plateaued.
And you feel like in order tobeat the algorithm, you have to

The algorithm is not your boss.
That is a totally demoralizingconcept.
I started creating art and theliving from it for the freedom.
Not to be at the Beck and callof anyone and certainly not the
algorithm.
None of us want to be on ourphones.
We are influencers.

We are artists.
Less social media and morestudio, please.
Before recording the podcasttoday, I was looking through my
camera roll to see what I coulduse for real content.
And I have some great B rollfrom the concert I went to this
weekend.
Oh my God.
And I almost didn't go because Ihad a terrible.

Terrible.
F-ing migraine.
I was laying in bed and we gotlawn passes to the outdoor
amphitheater for the wholesummer.
So we get to see every show andit was a first show of the
summer.
I really wanted to see this bandHozier and I was planning on not
going on, even told my goodfriend that I was like, Hey,
count me out.
I'm not going, I have amigraine, I'm dead to the world

in bed.
Um, but.
20 minutes before we actuallydecided to leave.
I got a new spring in my stepand I had listened to a few of
their songs and I was like, youknow what, I'm effing going.
So I'm really glad that I got togo.
Hosers.
voice is oh, amazing.
They're the band that sings takeme to church.
And oh, they rock out so good.

It's like listening to the blackkeys for me.
I love music, so that wasdefinitely the highlight of my
weekend.
Like pushing through overcominga battle and I live for music.
So that was really fun.
So I'm going to use some of thatcontent, on silent for B roll.

Here's what's got to change.
Step one.
It's not sad, but it does startwith a breakup.
Breakup with your current socialmedia strategy.
If you do the same thing, thenyou'll get what you've always
got.
If you want new results, it'stime for a change.
It's time to break up.

You can't use that same oldsocial media strategy that you
used last year.
When the algorithm changes, youhave to learn how to adapt to.
You have to understand how tofeed the algorithm, what it
wants so that the art buyersthat you worked so damn hard to
cultivate will actually see thecontent you're creating.
Post and pray does not work.

You can't just toss out, offerscold and expect to reel in the
cash.
That's like tossing out seeds ontop of soil without first
fertilizing it and nurturing thesoil and learning.
